If you shoot it, you will at some point need to swab the barrel, oil certain contact points, and perform various other maintenance tasks. This isn't necessarily limited to just the firearm- it is usually cheaper to replace a magazine spring or follower than to replace the magazine outright. Failure to maintain a firearm can lead to poor accuracy, improper function, and even damage to the gun.
