->''"She weighs one hundred fifty kilograms and fires two hundred dollar custom-tooled cartridges at 10,000 rounds per minute. It costs four hundred thousand dollars to fire this weapon... for twelve seconds."''
-->-- '''The Heavy''', ''[[SupplementalMaterial/TeamFortress2 Meet the Heavy]]''

Ever since Richard Gatling's 1861 invention, the rapid-firing rotary gun has had a special place among {{BFG}}s. Because it's basically [[ChainsawGood the gun equivalent of a chainsaw]], there is an undeniable attraction to a gun which can produce high enough rates of fire to cleanly trim hedges, [[Series/{{Mythbusters}} cut down trees]], or, in the case of the [[TruthInTelevision GAU-8 Avenger]], ''saw tanks in half''. The ''practical'' advantage of having multiple rotating barrels is that the heat generated during firing will be distributed over multiple barrels instead of one, preventing {{overheating}} and weapon damage from having such high rates of fire.

The Gatling gun is likely to function as a significantly more powerful version of a regular machine gun, requiring hulking mountains of muscle to move them, or some kind of vehicle, plane or boat mount. If one gets used, you can expect it to give a nice steady buzz as it spews a constant stream of death.

Modern super-fast Gatling guns actually make a strange, deafening buzzing sound in the bass register (5,000 tiny explosions per minute equals 83.3Hz, similar to the sound of a very large truck engine). Some of them, like the Phalanx anti-missile cannon, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgpQBZF2sZQ sound even weirder,]][[note]] best equivalents are an electric lawnmower/trimmer or a high-yield fan [[/note]] because they start at a lower rate of fire and then spin up to a higher one in distinct steps (in such designs they do not actually begin spinning the barrels until it fires the first shot and they require a moment to come up to speed), giving two or more separate "notes". Instead of a DramaticGunCock, the sign that a Gatling is preparing to fire tends to be the sound of it spinning up unless we're talking about Russian designs that historically tend to be autonomously driven and pneumatically cocked, so only start to spin ''after'' the first shot was fired.

A popular form of the {{BFG}} in fiction, and both a fictional and real-world way of achieving MoreDakka via SpectacularSpinning. It may be present even if EnergyWeapons are abundant in the setting, as KineticWeaponsAreJustBetter, you the creators may combine the best of both worlds and make an energy-based version of the Gatling. Usually invokes HyperspaceArsenal, as few media depict both the guns and the vast bins of ammunition they require; the ones that do, though, often resort to depicting it via an AmmunitionBackpack. See also BangBangBANG.

In RealLife, rotary cannons are mounted in military planes (such as the ground attack A-10, better knownas the "Warthog"), the AC-130 plane, and on ships in Close-In Weapons Systems (CIWS). Some helicopters have miniguns. According to {{Website/Cracked}} ([[https://www.atf.gov/regulations-rulings/rulings/atf-rulings/atf-ruling-2004-5.html and the ATF]]), owning one of these things is [[http://www.cracked.com/article_17016_7-items-you-wont-believe-are-actually-legal_p2.html perfectly legal]] [[UsefulNotes/AmericanGunPolitics in the United States]] due to a GrandfatherClause. [[AwesomeButImpractical It's merely prohibitively expensive.]]

[[folder:Anime & Manga]]
* ''Manga/{{Appleseed}}'' has large tanks that have stupidly large six-barreled rotary cannons in place of the main gun. And the monstrous mobile gun platforms have ''four'' of the same. Each.
* Aging in the 2002 arc of ''Literature/{{Baccano}}'' has a modified mini-gun that she wields one-handed in combination with an over-sized Gurkha Knife in her other hand, much to the shock of her associates. To be fair, they often compare her to the Terminator.
* ''Anime/TheBigO'''s [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlvLpYoUUfc&t=3m47s "O Thunder"]] is a pair of retractable Gatling {{arm cannon}}s.
* Tenaka from ''Manga/BlackButler'' has one of these in the '''kitchen'''!
* One villain from ''Manga/BlackLagoon'' wields one in "The Hunt for Greenback Jane"/"Roanapur Freak Show".
* In the ''Anime/BlackRockShooter'' anime, Black★Rock Shooter uses one at several points. At one point, Insane BRS and [[spoiler: Mato transformed into BRS]] ''duel each other'' using Gatling guns.
* In ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'', [=BG9=]'s Quincy Cross manifests as a Gatling Gun, though Sui-Feng destroys it before he has a chance to fire it.
* The titular [[HumongousMecha Exaxxion mecha]] from ''Manga/CannonGodExaxxion'' subverts this by making a trio of 88 mm Gatling cannons the SMALLEST weapon on the entire mech.
* Gargomon in ''Anime/DigimonTamers'' had a Gatling gun [[ArmCannon on both arms]], making him dangerous to the humans as well as the Digimon early on -- he was a bit drunk with the Champion level power.
* ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'':
** When Basque Grand transmutes an enormous arsenal of weapons, there's a Gatling gun somewhere in there.
** When the Elric brothers confront him, Father Cornello attempts to kill them several different ways. After having his henchmen try to shoot them with pistols and turning loose a lion/Komodo dragon chimera both fail, he transmutes his walking stick into a minigun.
* In ''Anime/GhostInTheShellStandAloneComplex'', Batou uses a Gatling in the style of "Ol' Painless" from ''Predator'' during an invasion of Section 9's headquarters by a military wet team.
* ''Franchise/{{Gundam}}'' has bigger gatling guns than most works, because they're all wielded by HumongousMecha.
** The most prominent example is probably the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing Gundam Heavyarms]]. Aside from the [[{{BFG}} Beam Gatling]] fitted on the arm, it also carries [[ChestBlaster a pair hidden in its chest]]. Later in the series, it gets upgraded to a double beam Gatling. In ''Endless Waltz'' it was {{retcon}}ned into having ''two'' double Gatlings, and ''four'' in the chest.
** The [[Anime/AfterWarGundamX Gundam Leopard]] also has a arm-carried beam Gatling and a pair hidden on its chest.
** Another standout is [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamThe08thMSTeam Norris Packard's Gouf Custom]], which features a shield-mounted Gatling gun with 75mm rounds. [[ColonelBadass Packard]] is [[TheAce very effective]] with it, as well as his Gouf's [[ShockAndAwe other]] [[{{BFS}} weapons]].
** The [[Manga/MobileSuitGundamSEEDAstray Astray Blue Frame Second L]] has the Tactical Arms, a MorphWeapon capable of transforming between a {{BFS}} and a Gatling gun. For the latter, the blades serve as a bipod for the Gatling gun.
** Almost every Gundam in the series has a pair of Vulcans fitted in the head- essentially much smaller Gatlings for shooting down aircraft and missiles.
** [[Anime/GundamBuildFighters Tatsuya Yuuki/Meijin Kawaguchi III]] has used at least four Gunpla with Gatling gun options- Nu Vrabe's Mercury Lev weapon pack features one, as does Hi-Nu Vrabe's Amazing Lev A. He uses one with the Kampfer Amazing as a surprise finisher against the Renato brothers in the 7th World Tournament, and his Gundam Amazing Red Warrior also has one amongst its plethora of weaponry.
* Guu of ''Anime/HareGuu'' has a Gatling [[ArmCannon gun arm]].
* ''Anime/LastExile'''s Silvana has six hidden rotary cannons behind the forward armor plates. They tend to [[CurbStompBattle end battles swiftly]].
* ''Franchise/LyricalNanoha'':
** ''Manga/MagicalRecordLyricalNanohaForce'' has Arnage, whose Divider is [[http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/7439/1288308301596.jpg a pair of Gatling guns strapped together which she easily wields with one hand.]]
** The ''[[Manga/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaInnocent INNOCENT]]'' version of Dieci Nakajima switches out her [[{{BFG}} Enormous Cannon]] for a Gatling gun. [[SmallGirlBigGun And she's only an elementary school student in that continuity]].
* ''Anime/{{Macross}}'' (and ''Anime/{{Robotech}}'') both feature HumongousMecha scale Gatling cannons typically called Gunpods as their primary weapon for nearly all Valkyries, in various forms since inception. The Gatling cannons generally have a ''[[{{BFG}} two-inch bore]]''.
* ''Anime/MobilePolicePatlaborTheEarlyDays'': GunNut Ohta is unsurprisingly a big believer in this, and [[spoiler:Clancy hooks him up with what looks like a ''GAU-8 Avenger'' towards the end of the first OVA series. Somehow.]]
* Chao's robot army in ''Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi'' used these against Mahora's mage army. They were loaded with bullets that could send the victim into a future in which they'd already lost without any possible defense aside from dodging as a functional OneHitKill.
* In ''Manga/OnePiece'', "Blood Splatterer" Coriboo is seen wielding a hand-held crank-operated one. Probably how he got the nickname.
** His brother Caribou also carries one inside of him.
* In Episode 21 of ''Manga/PsychicSquad'' when Oboro Kashiwagi the otherwise ordinary secretary lays eyes on a life-sized doll of herself, her response is to whip a ''minigun'' out of nowhere and shoot it to dust.
* The first ''Anime/RebuildOfEvangelion'' movie featured Unit 01 with a ''[[http://img.youtube.com/vi/R110lcX_hnw/0.jpg huge Gatling gun.]]'' Eva-scale. With [[SpentShellsShower spent casings]] that crush cars underneath them.
* ''Literature/RebuildWorld'': The protagonist Akira eventually gets a M421 Minigun to use combined with his anti-material rifle, assault rifle, or grenade launcher in GunsAkimbo. It's only possible to wield it at all due to the RequiredSecondaryPowers of having PoweredArmor for its boosted strength. Akira most notably uses this for a RecoilBoost to WallRun, when attacking the Sarenthal Building. When Akira gets a CoolBike with remote weapon mounts, he puts it on there and has his VirtualSidekick Alpha use it to shoot down missiles. Eventually, Akira moves on to using a BifurcatedWeapon line of rifles starting with the SSB Rifle able to fire at the same rate; using two of those makes Akira run out of ammo real quick, causing him to buy an APC to store reserves.
* ''Manga/RurouniKenshin'':
** In the final fight of the Opium Arc, Takeda Kanryuu uses a Gatling gun to battle the Kenshin-''gumi'' and Shinomori Aoshi's shinobi. It was an era-appropriate early model, operated with a hand crank (although this was slightly undermined by the ammo belt; hand-cranked models invariably used a gravity-feed hopper). In the anime, he was stopped when it jammed after one of the villains stuck a poison dart in the ammo belt; in the manga, he simply ran out of bullets after mowing everyone down.
** Shishio Makoto's ironclad ''Rengoku'' has a deck-mounted Gatling gun, which his men fire at the Kenshin-''gumi'' when they try to stop him setting sail for Tokyo to mount a coup against the Meiji government. Sanosuke defeats it by punching the water surface with the Mastery of Two Layers, creating a massive plume of water that deflects the salvo, before throwing hand grenades to hole the ''Rengoku'' at the waterline.
* ''Anime/SamuraiPizzaCats'': Whereas Lucille[=/=]Omitsu launches missiles out of her head when agitated, her Neo York City counterpart Lucinda[=/=]Honey is packing a ''gatling gun'' in hers.
* For a while, a Vulcan cannon was the primary "weapon" of Bungo Takano's "shadow dragon" Hainekuwele in ''Manga/ShadowStar''.
* [[MultiRangedMaster Chris Yukine's]] default weapons in ''Anime/{{Symphogear}}'' are a pair of laser crossbows, but she much prefers to [[MorphWeapon change]] them into a pair of Gatling guns named "Billion Maiden". They have two rotating barrels apiece, are each roughly her size, and pack enough raw firepower to mow down hordes of [[TheHeartless Noise]].
* Milly Thompson of ''Anime/{{Trigun}}'' carries a semiautomatic version that fires expanding projectiles with enough force to knock over whatever they hit, including armored trucks.
** Monev the Gale uses a pair of wrist-mounted Gatlings powerful enough to tear through buildings, then switches to an even larger one that can destroy a bank vault.
* The Gatling Missile from ''Anime/VoltesV''.
* In ''Anime/YuGiOh5Ds'', [[CombatPragmatist Lotten]], the BigBad of the Crashtown Arc, uses Gatling Ogre, a Fiend with a Gatling gun in its chest, with which he can achieve a First Turn Kill.
* ''Franchise/{{Zoids}}'' has the Hibilt Vulcan cannon, a massive six-barreled beam Gatling weapon. Oddly enough, the anime would often inconsistently depict it as a projectile weapon instead. There are too many Zoids that can equip it to list here, but we will mention Karl Shuvaltz in ''Chaotic Century'', who was known for having all his AceCustom units being armed with one.

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* ''Franchise/TheDCU'':
** In ''ComicBook/JonahHex2005'', Hex kills a train-robbing outlaw who had eluded capture from him for over a decade with Gatling gun at point blank range.
** Azrael's final Batsuit upgrade in the ''Knightquest'' segment of ''ComicBook/{{Knightfall}}'', trading the cape for wings, comes about due to Gunhawk firing a minigun at him.
* The ''ComicBook/{{Doom}}'' comic has Doomguy abandoning his highly respected shotgun for this piece of ordnance.
-->'''Doomguy:''' Hey, chaingun! The hell with respect!
* ''ComicBook/FrankMillersRoboCop'', based on Miller's original ''Film/RoboCop2'' script, features Murphy swapping out his left hand for a minigun attachment.
* ''ComicBook/LuckyLuke'' was once faced with old wild west Gatling guns in the episode ''The Treasure of the Daltons''. Fortunately for him, the bandits firing them all graduated from the ImperialStormtrooperMarksmanshipAcademy and the only casualty was TheCavalry's trumpet.
* ''Franchise/MarvelUniverse'':
** Minor villain Gattling wears a battle suit with twin Gatling-style machine guns mounted on each forearm. Yes, he was created in [[MediaNotes/TheDarkAgeOfComicBooks the 1990s]].
** ComicBook/RocketRaccoon's preferred weapon in the ''ComicBook/AnnihilationConquest'' miniseries and new ''ComicBook/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy'' ongoing is a Gatling gun bigger than he is. Opinions are divided on whether to call it proof of [[SuperStrength super-Procyon strength]] on Rocket's part or chalk it up to RuleOfCool.
** In ''ComicBook/TheAvengers'', during the faux Vampire War, the heavily armed and armored Shadow Colonel (actually Xarus, a son of Dracula) carries around a large minigun that chews through vampires and even poses a threat to a number of the Avengers.
** ''ComicBook/IronMan'' character War Machine typically [[ShoulderCannon carries one of these on his left shoulder]]. With his ability to integrate external technology into his armor, he can (and often does) add more.
** ''ComicBook/ThePunisher'' foe Rapido has a Gatling ArmCannon.
* ''ComicBook/WynonnaEarp'': When the town of Tombstone is magically transformed back to the way it had been in 1881, Valdez finds herself wielding a hand-cranked Gatling gun rather than her usual {{BFG}}. She still manages to use it to great effect against the revenants (and look really badass while doing so).

[[folder:Fan Fiction]]
* In the ''Stargate SG-1''/''X-COM: UFO Defense'' crossover ''[[Fanfic/{{XSGCOM}} XSGCOM: Goa'Uld Defence]]'', the Tau'ri make a Gatling staff weapon.
* [[Fanfic/ToyHammer A Warhammer 40,000 fanfic]] has the main character and his allies [[MoreDakka create a literal wall]] of Gatling guns ([[ShoutOut shouting out]] to ''Modern Warfare 2'' while they were at it) as the first stage of their counterattack against a charging horde of daemons.
* ''Fanfic/AndIfThatDontWork'', an [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion Evangelion]] FanFic, has a Texas arms manufacturer come up with a Gatling railgun.
* ''Fanfic/TheLifeOfTheLegendaries'' features 20 mm Gatling guns in the relatively mundane but vital role of point-defense.
* ''Fanfic/ShepherdOfTheStars'', a ''Franchise/MassEffect'' and ''VideoGame/SwordOfTheStars'' crossover, gives Wrex a Shaka'sal, one of the nastiest heavy weapons in the VideoGame/SwordOfTheStars universe. A Tarkasian gun, it's effectively a blend between a Gatling gun, a shotgun, and a ''battle axe''.
* ''Fanfic/ACertainUnknownLevel0'': Stephanie Gorgeouspalace uses an array of Gatling guns against [[spoiler:the hacked Anti-skill Weaponry]].
* ''Fanfic/TheNewAdventuresOfInvaderZim'': The weapon of choice used by [[BombThrowingAnarchists Nyx]] is a minigun which fires plasma.
* ''Fanfic/IfWishesWerePonies'', a ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic / Franchise/HarryPotter'' {{Crossover}} gives us chapter 117: Harry [[spoiler: encounters a centaur in the Forbidden Forest]] and, in a panic, summons Twilight, who summons the guard. One of the guards is described thusly:
--> ... And he was outfitted with one of the new gun-harness saddles, as were the other two, but his was one Harry had never seen. It seemed to be six barrels mounted in a circle really close together on one side instead of two barrels on either side. There was also a huge box on his other side, with another on his back. ...
** A few pages later, we get more Gatling gun word-play:
---> Suddenly, from a distance in the forest, there came the sound of a saw ripping through wood. ...
---> The ripping sound cut out, its echoes dying out quickly. There was a brief whine that suddenly stopped.
* ''Fanfic/ThisBites'': For the BigBadassBattleSequence at the end of Strong World, Merry takes a gatling as her weapon of choice, and keeps it afterwards. Deconstructed somewhat, however, by the fact that it's pointed out just how much ammo the thing eats up and how expensive it is to keep buying more, so she has to use it sparingly.
* ''Fanfic/BecomingATrueInvader'': Supporting character Kry is armed with a pair of Gatlings.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Animated]]
* ''Anime/BatmanNinja'': The Joker has a massive Gatling gun mounted on his ship which he uses to sink Batman's ninja ship.
* ''WesternAnimation/LiloAndStitch'' contains the EnergyWeapon version, as both the automated turrets used to guard Stitch's cell in the opening and the main weapon on the red [[SpaceFighter police cruiser]] he steals.
** ''WesternAnimation/StitchTheMovie'' shows that Jumba and Pleakley's spaceship has one as well.
* In ''WesternAnimation/{{Rango}}'', the moles are seen riding on bats mounted with civil war-style Gatling guns. In addition, Rattlesnake Jake has a Gatling gun [[ArmCannon where his rattle should be]], made of revolver cylinders.
* In ''WesternAnimation/TheSteamEnginesOfOz'', the munchkin planes are mounted with Gatling {{Lightning Gun}}s operated by gunners positioned on the wings.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Live-Action]]
* ''Film/ThreeTenToYuma2007'' features a hand-cranked Gatling gun.
* The SWCC gunners in ''Film/ActOfValor'' were not only firing real-life miniguns from their boats during the GunshipRescue, but they were also firing ''live ammunition''. That ripping sound they made as they fired was the actual weapon itself being fired with live ammunition.
* ''Franchise/{{Batman}}''
** ''Film/Batman1989'': The Batwing is equipped twin Gatling guns, used to [[ATeamFiring completely fail to hit]] ComicBook/TheJoker.
** ''Film/BatmanReturns'' has an organ grinder with a minigun in his organ, which he uses in the Red Triangle's terror campaign at the tree lighting ceremony.
** ''Film/BatmanForever'': The first car chase. The Batmobile is chased by a pair of '50 Buick Roadmasters, each with two miniguns mounted on the hood. Not that they ever reach real Gatling fire rates, let alone do any halfway realistic damage to anything.
** ''Film/TheDarkKnight''. Bruce Wayne conducts a ballistics test using a Gatling gun with a different kind of bullet in each barrel. There is absolutely no reason to have this other than RuleOfCool and ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney which entirely fits Wayne's persona.
-->'''[[DeadpanSnarker Alfred]]:''' Not sure you made it loud enough, sir.
* One of the more awesome scenes in ''Film/BlackHawkDown'' involved one of the MH-6 Little Bird helicopters obliterating a group of Somali RPG gunners using mounted miniguns.
* The 1983 movie ''Film/BlueThunder'' features a modified Aérospatiale SA-341G Gazelle helicopter with a 20mm Gatling cannon mounted in a turret attached to the nose. This cannon has such a high rate of fire that, during the movie, it is used to saw a police cruiser in half to [[GunshipRescue facilitate the escape]] of the hero's girlfriend. To provide sufficient drama, the [[spoiler:turret gets disabled by a surprise attack to set up the FinalBattle]].
* ''Film/TheBookOfEli'': During the fight between the BigBad Carnegie and Eli over at the elderly cannibal couple's house, Carnegie backs one of his trucks towards the house and opens the back doors, revealing a hand-cranked Gatling gun, which they promptly use to nearly level the house in quick order.
* Spoofed in ''Film/CarryOnUpTheKhyber''. Private Widdle and Sgt. Maj [=MacNutt=] turn a hand-cranked Gatling-type on the invading horde of Burpers, only for it to play music like an organ grinder. They open the drum magazine [[RuleOfFunny to discover a gramophone record]].
* In the ''Franchise/DCExtendedUniverse'':
** In ''Film/ManOfSteel'', Gatling gun rounds cannot harm Kryptonians, but they are powerful enough to knock them down.
** In ''Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice'', one of [[Comicbook/LexLuthor Lex's]] {{Mooks}} uses a M134 minigun mounted on the back of a truck to shoot at the [[Comicbook/{{Batman}} Batmobile]] during a chase scene. Later, Batman ambushes Superman with several remote-controlled Gatling guns. After groaning in pain for a few seconds from the impacts, Superman destroys them with his heat vision.
** In ''Film/SuicideSquad2016'', Comicbook/TheJoker's main henchman, Mr. Frost, uses a helicopter-mounted minigun to [[spoiler: keep the Comicbook/SuicideSquad pinned while the Joker [[GunshipRescue rescues]] Comicbook/HarleyQuinn]].
* Darko uses a Gatling gun to try and blast Guerrero out of the saloon in ''Film/DeadInTombstone''.
* In ''Film/DeathRace'', four out of the ten cars present in the film have rotary guns -- most M134 miniguns, but one has two M61 Vulcans.
* ''Deep Rising'' had the highly fictional M1-L1 Triple-Pulse Rifle, which is a high tech assault rifle with 5 barrels and [[BottomlessMagazines 1000 rounds]] of bullets to work with. Unfortunately the mercenaries using these are up against a [[KrakenAndLeviathan Kraken-like]] {{Kaiju}}.
* In ''Film/TheDeserter'', the squad sets two Gatling guns on either side of the canyon to catch the Apache in a crossfire as they try to escape.
* ''Film/{{Dredd}}'' -- Ma-Ma proves she really isn't screwing around when she has ''three'' massive Gatling guns unload on Judge Dredd and his rookie partner. The combined firepower absolutely shreds an entire floor of the complex they're fighting through, along with dozens of bystanders, in one of the messiest scenes of a gorn-packed movie. Dredd and Anderson only survive by blowing a wall open with an explosive round. The shot of what's left of the floor at the end looks like swiss cheese.
* ''Film/TheExpendables3''. Caesar is quite happy when he's issued a mini-Gatling, only to be informed it will shoot through its ammunition supply in ten seconds.
* [[Wrestling/DwayneJohnson Hobbs]] gets to wield one in ''Film/Furious7''.
** In addition to this, Mose Jakande, half of the BigBadDuumvirate, makes good use of a plane-mounted one during the film's climax.
* The Rojos in ''Film/AFistfulOfDollars'' steal a shipment of gold by posing as American soldiers, using the Hand-cranked Gatling Gun the real soldiers they'd already ambushed and killed had brought along.
* ''Film/GIJoeTheRiseOfCobra'' features a suit of PoweredArmor with a Gatling gun built around the right forearm. It suffers from a somber rate of fire and [[HyperspaceArsenal gates in ammo]] from the ''Dakkaverse''.
* There seems to be a pattern of Machine Gun use by villains in {{Spaghetti Western}}s. In ''The Grand Duel,'' The Saxons use a water-cooled machine gun against a group of settlers sitting on a silver claim.
* In the epilogue of ''Film/{{Grindhouse}}'''s latter film, ''Film/PlanetTerror'', Cherry Darling has replaced her rifle-leg with a minigun. There's also a motorbike-mounted chaingun in the ''Film/{{Machete}}'' trailer. (Apparently the same prop.)
* The BigBad's suit in ''Film/IronMan1'' has, in addition to a rocket launcher, a huge wrist-mounted Gatling gun.
** In ''Film/IronMan2'' the War Machine armor also sports a Gatling gun, which Rhodes uses to great effect against the Hammeroids.
*** Unlike in the comics, the movie's Gatling gun defaults over the right shoulder. However, it is mounted on a flexible arm which is then mounted on a sliding rail, enabling it to shoot in any direction, including behind him while flying.
* ''Film/JonahHex2010'': Jonah uses a small, man-portable Gatling gun at several points.
* In ''Film/JurassicWorld'', one of the weapons used against the ''Indominus rex'' when she escapes is a minigun door-mounted on a helicopter. Unfortunately, they don't get to use the gun very long as she escapes into the Aviary to avoid the gunfire.
* ''Film/KickAss'' Big Daddy and Hit-Girl are shown buying something that while unrevealed to the audience, is apparently awesome enough to make them {{Squee}} with delight. Hit-Girl later makes it ''more'' awesome by adding Gatling Guns to it, still not revealing what it is. The climax shows what could possibly be awesome enough to have Gatling Guns as an accessory: [[spoiler:a JetPack]].
* In ''Film/KingKong1976'', Kong is taken down not by biplanes with machine guns, but by helicopters armed with miniguns. As one troper already noted, Kong is ''shredded''. It is not an easy scene to watch. Interestingly, this movie is probably the first time most moviegoers saw a Gatling gun in action, aside from ''Film/RoosterCogburn'', which featured the early hand-cranked version. After this, they probably didn't want to see it again.
* During a car scene in ''Film/LastActionHero'' a door on a van suddenly opens, and a goon steps out with a mounted short-barreled minigun and proceeds to fire it at Arnie's car. Which remains untouched, but the premise of the movie means this actually makes sense.
* In ''Film/TheLastSamurai'', the Japanese government purchases a battery of Civil War-era Gatling Guns from the United States. These weapons quickly and efficiently wipe out the remnants of the Samurai during their final DesperationAttack.
* The original models used by the U.S. Calvary [[spoiler:to kill the charging Comanches]] in ''Film/TheLoneRanger''.
* In ''Film/TheMagnificentSeven2016'', the bad guys get a Gatling gun for the climax. In a very unusual move, [[ShownTheirWork it is actually utilized as its designer intended (and how the Union Army did use it)]] as an emplaced long-range weapon traversing only a few degrees to sweep a wide area several hundred yards away with sustained fire, and the effect is ''devastating''. [[spoiler:One of the title characters eventually destroys it in a HeroicSacrifice with a stick of dynamite.]]
* ''Film/AManCalledSledge'': There is a Gatling gun mounted on the wagon transporting the gold, and one on the guard tower in the centre of the prison. Sledge's men seize control of the one in the prison and use it against the guards during the mass breakout.
* ''Film/TheMatrix'' features a helicopter-mounted minigun, which is one of the few weapons that fires too fast for the Agents to dodge.
* In ''Film/MoreDeadThanAlive'', much of Luke Santee's gang is killed by the Gatling gun at the prison during the attempted prison break.
* ''Film/NoTimeToDie'': Film/JamesBond's iconic WeaponizedCar from TheSixties, the Aston Martin [=DB5=], is now fitted with concealed miniguns instead of the previous single-barrel machine guns.
* In the Creator/ClintEastwood vehicle ''Film/TheOutlawJoseyWales'' the Redlegs used Gatlings mounted on the back of a wagon [[spoiler:to kill all the bushwhackers that had just surrendered to them and turned their own guns in]].
* In ''Film/TheOutlawsIsComing'', the [[WeaponizedCar armoured Thunder Wagon]] includes a Gatling gun amongst its armaments, and Trigger makes good use of it while chasing Cabot and the Stooges. The Stooges create their own Gatling gun and shoot back by [[RuleOfFunny feeding their gunbelts into a meat grinder and cranking the handle]].
* The [[FixedForwardFacingWeapon long-nine bow cannons]] on the ''Flying Dutchman'' in ''Franchise/PiratesOfTheCaribbean'' had three rotating barrels. How that would work with the muzzle-loading cannon of the era is a mystery, but [[AWizardDidIt a wizard probably did it]].
* ''Film/{{Pistolera}}'': As a young girl, Angel uses a mini-gun to mow down Raffaello's thugs after they invade her villa and murder her parents.
* ''Film/{{Predator}}'' features the famous GE M134 minigun "Ol' Painless" wielded by former Navy SEAL, former Pro Wrestler and later Minnesota Governor Wrestling/JesseVentura, and was the first handheld minigun ever to be used on film (or in any fiction for that matter). The actors firing that thing had to be braced just offscreen, lest the recoil knock them on their ass. And that was just firing ''blanks''. They also had to connect it to an external power source offscreen, via a wire that went down his pants. Jesse himself has stated that while the gun was suspended from an offscreen crane in early takes, later he actually managed to fire it without. According to him: "You just had to grit your teeth and hold on. It's like firing a chainsaw. It's fucking ridiculous. [[AwesomeButImpractical Why the fuck would anyone want to use something like that]]?"
* ''Film/AReasonToLiveAReasonToDie'': While StormingTheCastle, Pembroke's men mange to capture several of the fort's Gatling guns and use them to mow down many of Confederate troops.
* In ''Film/ResidentEvilApocalypse'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dv48CEAyDfA Nemesis]] uses one as his main gun for half his screen time. According to the effects crew the barrel was cut to about 9 inches, and an "elbow box" added to the back then geared it to half the firing rate.
* In ''Film/SherlockHolmesAGameOfShadows'', the soldiers at Meinhard's weapons factory use Gatling guns with the big Broadwell drums to shoot at Holmes and his crew as they flee.
* Clyburn uses a hand-cranked Gatling gun loaded with a mix of live and blank rounds to intimidate [[spoiler:Judy]] in ''Film/SistersOfDeath''.
* ''Film/SplitSecond1992'': The {{BFG}}s that Stone and Durkin bring along to the final fight are rotary-cannon [[ShotgunsAreJustBetter "assault shotguns"]].
* ''Film/TheSumOfAllFears'' has a scene where a 20mm Vulcan cannon in a [[AntiAir Phalanx mounting]] on the USS ''John C. Stennis'' is used in an attempt to defend the ship from a missile attack.
* A criminal uses one in ''Film/SupermanReturns'', [[ShootingSuperman to no effect]].
* Guess what's bolted to the port side of [[CoolCar that black truck]] in ''Film/TangoAndCash''. Right, a 20mm Gatling.
* ''Franchise/{{Terminator}}'' franchise:
** ''Film/Terminator2JudgmentDay'': The T-800 famously uses a minigun modified to be carried by hand to fend off the police. And it was reported that Schwarzenegger was the only man on the set strong enough to carry it on his own.
** ''Film/TerminatorSalvation''. The T-600s robots have Gatling guns attached to their arms.
* All robots seem to have rotary guns in ''Film/Transformers2007'', including ones made from mobile phones. There's also the famous A-10 firing its GAU-8 Avenger at Scorponok. This was a rare moment of pyrotechnic understatement for Michael Bay. A burst from an Avenger gun is less of a line of pew-pews as seen in the movie, and more like God throwing a fistful of bullets with all his might.
* ''Film/Tremors4TheLegendBegins'' ends with Burt's ancestor Hiram gleefully firing off a large Gatling gun he's just been given, though it's just for fun as all the Graboids are already dead.
* In ''Film/VanHelsing'', as Carl hands out a variety of standard [[OurVampiresAreDifferent vampire]]-killing weapons, Van Helsing notices a prototype Gatling Gun being tested elsewhere in the room and quips 'Why can't I have one of those?'
* In ''Film/TheWarriorsWay'', the Colonel's gang had at least two miniature Gatling guns they used against the horde of ninjas.
* ''Film/TheWarWagon'' (1967) is a {{Western}} starring Creator/JohnWayne and Creator/KirkDouglas, who plan to rob an armored stagecoach (owned by a villainous CattleBaron) that is armed with a turret-mounted Gatling gun. Since the wagon effectively amounted to a horse-drawn tank the InvulnerableHorses trope had to be in full effect as well.
* ''Film/WhenTheLastSwordIsDrawn'': The Imperial Army is briefly shown firing an original-flavor Gatling gun in a scene from the early stages of the UsefulNotes/BoshinWar.
* In ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', the Prototype Sentinel’s primary weapons are wrist-mounted Gatling guns.
* In ''Film/YellowHairAndTheFortressOfGold'', the Mexican soldiers have a Gatling gun in their fort.
* As the title suggests, a Gatling gun plays a major role in ''Film/TheGatlingGun''. The troopers don't get the gun working until the end of the film, but it turns the tide of the battle and allows them to wipe out an entire Apache war party.

[[folder:Literature]]
* In the ''Amtrak Wars'' series by Patrick Tilly, the Federation use Skyhawk ultralight aircraft equipped with an air rifle and bombs. However after the disasterous Battle of the Now and Then River shows the need for greater firepower, they put into service a Mark 2 armed with a built-in six-barrelled electric gun called Thor.
* In the ''Armageddon Trilogy'' by Creator/RobertRankin, this is {{lampshade|Hanging}}d with a running gag that characters going into a fight say they wish they had 'an amazing rotary machine gun like Blaine had in Predator'. This exact phrase is used consistently until [[ElvisImpersonator Elvis]] correctly identifies it as the M134 General Electric mini-gun.
* In the ''Delta Squad'' series Flesh Tearer and Flame Genesis both use miniguns as their primary weapons. While Tearer's weapon is a minigun, Genesis can convert his into a flamethrower and other chemical weapons.
* ''Literature/TheDresdenFiles''. ''Literature/SmallFavor.'' Hendricks, on the helicopter, with the Gatling gun. Which happens to be blasting ''The Ride of the Valkyries''. While being piloted by an actual Valkyrie. Let it never be said that a Chooser of the Slain doesn't know [[BigDamnHeroes how to make an entrance]].
* The {{Western}} series ''Literature/{{Gatling}}'' by Jack Slade had as its hero an operative for the Maxim Gun Company named Gatling. The series hook was that the title character used period automatic weapons, including Gatling guns.
* The titular mercenaries in Creator/DavidDrake's ''Literature/HammersSlammers'' novels use revolving energy guns called "Tribarrels". Even though they don't fire projectiles the point is the same: three rotating barrels to avoid overheating.
* The ''Literature/HellsGate'' series by Creator/DavidWeber gives us the Yerthak Pedestal Gun, a naval weapon designed to destroy torpedo boats and hastily converted by the Fort Salby garrison into makeshift anti-aircraft guns. They are four to six barreled ''Gatling Cannons'' that come in one-point-five-inch and two-point-five-inch calibers capable of firing shrapnel rounds, high-explosive or solid ammunition. They're used to shoot down dragons.
* Mentioned in the ''Literature/HonorHarrington'' series where variants of the Gatling Gun were used for anti-missile defense until they were quickly replaced by newer Laser Clusters. They are still used by some second- and third-rate powers like the Silesian Confederacy[[spoiler: and the Solarian League.]]
* Creator/JohnRingo's ''[[Literature/PaladinOfShadows Unto the Breach]]'' features the Dragon, a modified [[ReportingNames Hind]] helicopter equipped with quad Gatling guns. Another Hind owned by the Kildar uses the more conventional miniguns to port and starboard for defense when used as a troop transport.
* In the {{novelization}} of ''Film/RamboFirstBloodPartII'', one of these guns shows up on a helicopter. Every fourth bullet is a tracer bullet, leaving a column of fire from the weapon's mouth, leading to the weapon's nickname of "The Dragon", which is TruthInTelevision.
* In the ''Literature/{{Ravenor}}'' trilogy, Zeph Mathuin’s weapon of choice is a six-barreled rotator cannon. It’s as long as his arm and requires him to wear a special torso harness both to counteract the gun’s weight and to support its multiple ammo hoppers. Nayl refers to it as a “bullet hose” at one point.
* In ''The Shining One'' by Nat Schachner, a 1937 sci-fi pulp set in a future war, the soldiers use "Allison guns" which have revolving barrels firing explosive shells.
* "[[NamedWeapons Reason]]" of ''Literature/SnowCrash'' ("[[{{Pun}} I told you they'd listen to Reason]]") is a ridiculously powerful rotary rail gun that fires small fragments of depleted uranium. To drive the point home, at a certain point in the story the main character gets in a gunfight with [[spoiler:two Phalanx CIWS carrier-mounted 20mm Vulcan guns]]. Reason wins.
* Subverted in ''Literature/StoneKing''. The narrator, Saionji, specializes in the use of a mecha-scaled Gatling gun but is rarely able to use it effectively in combat.

[[folder:Live-Action TV]]
* ''Series/AgentCarter''. One of the villains has a small Gatling ''pistol''. It's not totally reliable though.
* ''Series/{{Andromeda}}'''s assault bots are armed with ''six'' Gauss Gatling guns, each firing guided rounds.
* A flash-forward in the ''Series/BabylonFive'' episode "Babylon Squared" showed Garibaldi wielding a [[{{BFG}} Gatling-style PPG cannon]] against unseen attackers.
* In the 1989 miniseries adaptation of ''Brotherhood of the Rose'' the Jet Ranger used to patrol the sanctuary for retired spies had a Gatling mounted on the nose for no apparent reason other than RuleOfCool, as it's not exactly unobtrusive (the helicopter in the book did ''not'' have mounted machine guns). Said coolness was ruined anyway by the barrels [[SpectacularSpinning not spinning when it fired]].
* ''Series/DeadliestWarrior'' Season 3 has UsefulNotes/TheodoreRoosevelt vs. Film/LawrenceOfArabia, and one of Roosevelt's weapons was a hand-cranked Gatling gun.
* In ''Series/TheExpanse'', any space warship worthy of the title mounts at least two gatling guns for point-defense against incoming torpedoes. Duing close-quarter battles, they will often use them directly against enemy ships as well. In the season two premiere, when the ''Rocinante'' engages a Protogen stealth ship at Thoth Station, bullets can be seen puncturing the hull and slicing through the crew compartments, narrowly missing the protagonists.
* G3-X from ''Series/KamenRiderAgito'' has the handheld [[{{BFG}} GX-05 Cerberus]], which is utilized as a FinishingMove.
** [[Series/KamenRiderFourze Fourze]] has one attached to his ''leg'' and can combine it with [[MacrossMissileMassacre Launcher Switch]] for more firepower.
** ''[[Series/KamenRiderGaim Gaim Gaiden: Kamen Rider Zangetsu]]'' introduces a prototype Watermelon Arms (the full version is a MiniMecha) equipped with the Watermelon Gatling Gun, a shield and minigun combination. Due to its recoil weakening him, he only used it once.
** Kamen Rider Snipe from ''Series/KamenRiderExAid'' is equipped with two large Gatling guns in his Level 3 form, the Combat Shooting Gamer form.
* On ''Series/TheLastShip'', ''Nathan James'' is frequently shown activating her CIWS to defend against incoming missiles.
* ''Series/TheMagician'': In "The Illusion of the Lethal Playthings", a WickedToymaker sends a warning to his intended victim by firing off a vintage hand-cranked Gatling gun in his weapon collection via remote control.
* In ''Series/TheMandalorian'', one of the Mandalorians carries a huge triple-barreled, belt-fed laser cannon. He finally gets to show it off in the penultimate episode of Season 3 [[spoiler: singlehandedly mowing down a whole platoon of Imperial troops in a DyingMomentOfAwesome]]. By the time he runs out of ammo the thing is glowing red-hot.
* ''Series/MythBusters'' used a Gatling gun as the last stage of the "shooting fish in a barrel" analogy. They busted out a privately owned minigun and unleashed it on the barrel. By the time it was over, the barrel was in a million pieces and there was more lead in the fish than fish.
** They also used the minigun on at least two other occasions: Once, to see if incendiary rounds could blow up a gas tank (busted), see if you could chop down a tree with bullets (confirmed, it even caught on fire) and blow up a propane tank (confirmed).
* ''Series/PawnStars'' had a segment where they test-fired and (and then tried to buy) a 37mm Hotchkiss Revolving cannon. The projectiles alone weighed one pound apiece.
* ''Franchise/PowerRangers'': The [[Series/PowerRangersZeo Red Battlezord]] has Gatling laser cannons [[ArmCannon built into its arms]]. One of the [[Series/PowerRangersTurbo Rescue Megazord's]] guns is a huge laser Gatling gun (the other was an equally enormous [[KillItWithFire flamethrower]]). The [[Series/PowerRangersInSpace Delta Megazord]] has Gatling gun hands. The [[Series/PowerRangersLightspeedRescue Supertrain Megazord]] is armed with a Gatling ''missile launcher''.
** Franchise/SuperSentai's ''Series/TokusouSentaiDekaranger'' has [=DekaMachine=] Patrol Gyror, with Gatling guns under its wings. Years later, in ''Series/KaizokuSentaiGokaiger'', the Gokaigers are able to summon a modified of the Patrol Striker, which has Gatling guns in its wheels; these guns are used in Deka [=GokaiOh=]'s finisher. This would be taken further in ''Series/KikaiSentaiZenkaiger'', which uses a classic hand-cranked gatler as the main TransformationTrinket.
* In one episode of ''Series/SonsOfGuns'', Will is challenged to build an electric Gatling ''shotgun''. The initial attempt fails. Miserably. Changing gears, they take 3 stock semi-auto Saiga shotguns off the shelf and mount them in the reconstructed remains of the Gatling unit. It works well enough that the customer buys the result.
* The penultimate episode of ''Series/StargateAtlantis'' had a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqSX3rEuUxg#t=4m14s scene of a Wraith being strafed]] by an A-10. Also, ''The Daedalus Variations'' showed us that the Tau'ri ship-mounted railguns are Gatlings.
* The Giga Streamer from ''Series/TokkeiWinspector'' is a handheld energy Gatling Gun. Recoil and vibration make it impossible to use effectively without the user wearing a [[PoweredArmor Crash Tector suit]] -- and it has a steep learning curve.
* Used in an elimination challenge during Season 3 of ''Series/TopShot''; the goal was to cut through a group of telephone poles.
* ''Series/{{Wiseguy}}''. Hitman Roger Loccoco has a car with a Gatling gun firing from the trunk, and twin machine-guns between the headlights.
* Gabrielle's descendant used one in [[Series/XenaWarriorPrincess "The Xena Scrolls]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Manhwa]]
* Novic from ''Manhwa/{{Priest|1998}}'' carries around a Gatling gun. He doesn't seem to have any trouble firing it from the hip.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Music]]
* Music/TheProtomen present [[VideoGame/MegaManClassic Proto Man and Mega Man]] with Gatling guns for arms in artwork and live performances, as opposed to the plasma cannons they have in the games.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Pinball]]
* The Chaingun weapon can be obtained in ''[[VideoGame/DoomZenStudios DOOM]]'' and used against demons.
* The Gatling Pea you buy from Crazy Dave in ''VideoGame/PlantsVsZombiesPinball'' has this effect.
* In ''Pinball/Terminator3RiseOfTheMachines'', the T-850 is using a Gatling gun in the ball saver animation.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Play By Post Games]]
* In the ''Roleplay/DinoAttackRPG'', the character Heavy specializes in this type of weapon. Elite Agent Minerva also used one after her Fire Hammer was downed by her brother Oswald.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tabletop Games]]
* ''{{TabletopGame/BattleTech}}'' commonly depicts many machine guns and Auto Cannons as rotary-style guns, and recently introduced the separate Rotary Auto Cannon as its own class of weapon.
** To wit, rotary autocannons can achieve rates of fire up to six times that of "standard" models (and still three times that of an ultra autocannon on double-tap). This comes with an accompanying increase in ammo expenditure and heat buildup and a likewise increasing risk of a temporary jam that needs to be cleared by the [=MechWarrior=] or vehicle crew before the weapon can fire again (and renders it explosive until that is done); they also have a shorter effective ''range'' than most comparable autocannons of other types. Still, the RAC/5 in particular has practically become the [=BattleTech=] universe's iconic incarnation of MoreDakka.
* ''Tabletopgame/{{Deadlands}}'' has not only traditional Gatling guns, but also Gatling pistols, Gatling rifles, and Gatling shotguns.
* ''Tabletopgame/FadingSuns'', in a universe where energy weapons reign supreme, the top squad-support weapon for suppressing incoming alien Symbionts is the Furystorm Chaingun - which lays down streams of high calibre bullets for a long time. There's also a Gatling Laser which is a weapon where 5 laser rifles are combined. The Gatling Laser is an AlphaStrike weapon, where each barrel fires at the same time - making this weapon an excellent choice for bringing down shields. Interestingly the Furystorm Chaingun is actually higher on the technology level than the Gatling Laser.
* Just one of the many weapons employed by the Jammers in ''TabletopGame/FengShui''. Subtle, these guys are not.
* ''Tabletopgame/{{Gammarauders}}'', a game about giant mutant cyborg animals fighting in the radioactive wastes after an apocalyptic nuclear war, features the Macrotechnic Popgun, so called because though it is of little use against the bioborgs it can still waste a lot of regular human soldiers, called popcorn because the bioborgs eat them like snacks.
* ''TabletopGame/{{GURPS}}'':
** ''[[TabletopGame/GURPSHighTech High-Tech]]'' and some associated books (covering Victorian-through-to-modern weapons) have details for historical and real-world Gatling guns, including the Minigun. Carrying most of them is almost impossible for most characters [[AwesomeButImpractical because they are too heavy.]] However, in a nod to cinema, there is a technically man-portable version, with proper grips, batteries, and an ammo backpack. It still requires very high strength and runs out of ammo very quickly.
** Some {{Steampunk}}-related supplements borrow those period Gatling details, because after all, the original Gatling fits well with the genre's tendency to 19th century excess. There's also the ahistorical "clockwork carbine", a functional steampunk submachine gun which uses springs and clockwork to power a miniature Gatling-style mechanism.
** ''[[TabletopGame/GURPSUltraTech Ultra-Tech]]'' has Gatling versions of just about every firearms type it covers which are at the low end of the high-power weapons but have four times the rate of fire and about twice as many shots.
* ''Tabletopgame/IronKingdoms'' Warmachine has two warjacks wielding Gatling guns, both part of Cygnar's armies. The first is the [[http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/gallery/cygnar/warjacks/sentinel Sentinel]], a light warjack sporting a Gatling gun for its right arm and a shield on its left and second is its bigger brother, the [[http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/gallery/cygnar/warjacks/cyclone Cyclone]] heavy warjack. Cygnar also have [[http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/gallery/cygnar/units/trencher-chain-gun-crew chaingun teams among their ground troops.]]
* Gatling guns exist in ''TabletopGame/NewHorizon''. They're quite powerful but extremely expensive.
* Many mecha and vehicles in ''Tabletopgame/{{Rifts}}'' are adopting [[RuleOfCool rotary railguns]] as antipersonnel weapons.
* ''Tabletopgame/{{Shadowrun}}'' has, in addition to its more ordinary miniguns, a vehicle-mounted weapon called the "Victory Rotary Assault Cannon", which is ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: a rotary gun that fires artillery rounds.
* ''Tabletopgame/SlaIndustries'' has Mort City protected from outside invasion by a number of 66mm tri-barrelled gatling gun installations. The PowerArmor adversary organization Thresher Incorporated has their top-line Sarge armour carrying a 17mm multi-barrelled automatic weapon.
* The evil rat-like Skaven in ''TabletopGame/{{Warhammer}} Fantasy Battle'', ever on the cutting edge of technological development, have Gatling guns. Naturally, they're called ratling guns.
** The Empire, being depicted as having a fair amount of technology themselves, have Gatlings too, with repeater handguns and repeater pistols.
* ''TabletopGame/{{Warhammer 40000}}'' loves these, from the "assault cannon" on Space Marine Terminators and Dreadnoughts, the Tau's EnergyWeapon Burst Cannon, through the tank-shredding Vulcan Mega Bolter and Gatling Blaster, and right up to the Imperator Titan's Hellstorm cannon -- a Gatling EnergyWeapon ''the size of a skyscraper''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Toys]]
* ''Toys/{{Bionicle}}'''s summer wave sets of 2007 came with Cordak Revolving Blasters, possibly the most realistic looking guns of the entire line. [[InUniverse In-story]], the red missiles they fire are ''explosive''.
* While not having multiple barrels, the Gatling Deathshell from ''[[Anime/BDamanCrossfire Cross Fight B-Daman eS]]'' features a two-handled crank known as the Gatling Unit. It fires a stream of marble like a hand-cranked Gatling gun. attaching a motor by gluing it onto the crank would outright turn it into the world's first [[MoreDakka fully automatic B-Daman]].
* Not unsurprisingly, Gatling guns show up in the ''Franchise/GIJoe'' lineup, including on such vehicles as the Rattler and the Thunder Machine. One of the original members of the 1982 Joe team, Rock 'n' Roll, traded his M-60 machine gun for a pair of handheld, backpack-fed dual Gatlings when he got a new figure in 1989.
* Several ''[[Franchise/{{Gundam}} Gunpla]]'' kits featured mounted or portable Gatling guns, some of them can be customized and can be wielded by ''Toys/{{Figma}}''.
* ''Kotobukiya M.S.G.:''
** The M.S.G Weapon Unit [=MW20=] Gatling Gun is a [[{{BFG}} gigantic Gatling gun]] with a wind-up motor. It is compatible with the ''Frame Arms'' and ''Toys/FrameArmsGirls'' series, and can also be motorized with the [=MG01=] External Generator, which is sold separately.
** The M.S.G Weapon Unit [=MW29=] Hand Gatling Gun is a small portable Gatling gun that can be wielded by smaller units such as the ''Toys/FrameArmsGirls'' without the need of a stand to support them. The ammo container is sold separately as M.S.G Weapon Unit 20 Belt Link.
** The M.S.G. Heavy Weapon Unit [=MH08=] Sentry Gun is a Gatling gun turret with two additional small Gatling guns at the top of the main turret. The main turret itself can also be motorized with the [=MG01=] External Generator, which is sold separately.
* ''Toys/SuperRobotChogokin'' features the UCR-10 (otherwise known as Vengeance if the [[ChainsawGood Grind Blade]] is attached) from ''VideoGame/ArmoredCoreV'', one of the four weapons is a Gatling gun with rotating barrels. Oddly enough, it can also be wielded by ''Toys/{{Figma}}''.
* ''Franchise/{{Transformers}} G2'': Dreadwing came with a shoulder-mounted Gatling gun, which, according to the [[https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ry8TupFxILU commercials]], was apparently "[[TotallyRadical illin']]."
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Animation]]
* A Gatling gun is seen once in ''WebAnimation/MadnessCombat 8: Inundation''. The [[BigBad Auditor]] tries to kill [[KungFuJesus Jesus]] with it but misses because Jesus [[DodgeTheBullet dodges it]] by levitating towards him very fast. If you think this sounds weird, look at the [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin title]] [[RuleOfCool again]].
* In ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'', Coco fights by beating her enemies with a [[HandbagOfHurt purse]] (which is surprisingly powerful). When this isn't enough, the purse unfolds into a minigun which is several times bigger and can [[CurbstompBattle take down several Grimm with ease]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Webcomics]]
* The HumongousMecha [[spoiler:Dr. Silas Merlot]] of ''Webcomic/GirlGenius'' comes equipped with double Gatling guns as its primary weapon. There's also Gil's [[http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20081015 "hand-cranked Runcible Gun"]], which [[LiteraryAllusionTitle fires sporks]].
* Quarters from ''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}'''s Intermission wields one of these, but is never seen using it due to [[PostHumousCharacter dying before the story starts]]. [[spoiler: Thanks to TimeTravel, he shows up long after the Intermission's end to fill [[AntiHero Spades Slick]] full of holes before another time traveler fixes things.]]
* [[TheHero Max]] from ''Webcomic/MaxComix'' is shown to be able to summon a Gatling gun in Chapter 9 "Caos en Dragonmouth", as seen [[https://imgur.com/a/Pv4P4 here]].
* ''Webcomic/SchlockMercenary'': Most of the time, the guns seen on-screen are single-shot, or energy-based. However, [[https://www.schlockmercenary.com/2008-08-14 one time Schlock is targeted by a sniper]]...
-->'''Ebbirnoth''': ...You don't have your plasma cannons. [But] The shotgun is a good compromise.
-->'''Schlock''': I didn't grab the shotgun. [[PreAssKickingOneLiner I grabbed the short-barrel rotary fifty and six cases of ammo]].
-->'''Footnote''': "The rotating barrel assembly on the Strohl Munitions Short-barrel handcannon may give the user a wicked pinch if the weapon is held incorrectly. This makes it an unpopular selection for many military forces. Also, it can be configured to send [[MoreDakka anywhere between five hundred and five thousand projectiles per minute downrange with great accuracy]], making it an exceedingly unpopular selection for the enemies of many military forces."
* In ''Webcomic/SluggyFreelance'' Riff invents [[http://www.sluggy.com/comics/archives/daily/981004 an anti-vampire Gatling gun that fires 100 wooden stakes per second.]] Falls into AwesomeButImpractical territory since it only holds 100 stakes and takes two days to reload.
* Doc of ''Webcomic/TheWhiteboard'' uses a minigun to [[http://www.the-whiteboard.com/autotwb1280.html slay zombies]], and later made a [[http://www.the-whiteboard.com/autotwb1783.html paintball Gatling gun]].
* In comic 328 of ''Webcomic/GrrlPower'' there's a version that has 6 bayonets attached to it. Sydney can't lift it and barely moves it at all.
* In the ''Webcomic/Xkcd'' What If series, comic 21 points out that attaching a GAU to your car would easily propel it. "To put it another way: If I mounted a GAU-8 on my car, put the car in neutral, and started firing backward from a standstill, I would be breaking the interstate speed limit in less than three seconds."
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Original]]
* In ''WebVideo/AtopTheFourthWall'', Linkara used one to defeat [[Franchise/SilentHill Pyramid Head]]. [[spoiler: Later, 90s Kid wielded it against Mechakara during his BigDamnHeroes moment with Harvey Finevoice and Ninja Style Dancer.]]
* Creator/FPSRussia has showcased an M134 Minigun in one of his videos. At the end, he shows that while it's possible to fire it by hand it's still AwesomeButImpractical as he doesn't move and you can see both the battery and the huge box of ammo next to him.
* On ''AudioPlay/WereAlive'', the M134 Minigun seems to be about the only practical way of bringing down the "Little Ones" and "Behemoths."
* As demonstrated by the ''Blog/WhatIf'' entry [[http://what-if.xkcd.com/21/ "Machine Gun Jetpack"]], you can [[RecoilBoost jump mountains]] riding a properly set-up [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gryazev-Shipunov_GSh-6-30 GSh-6-30]].

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* ''WesternAnimation/BatmanTheBraveAndTheBold'': In "Mitefall!", the steam-powered cyborg assassin John Wilkes Booth has twin Gatling guns.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Centurions}}'':
** Jake Rockwell's Fireforce weapon system has a futuristic Gatling gun called a "plasma repulsar".
** Rex Charger's Gatling Guard weapon system is half hovercraft, half revolving missile magazine.
* In the ''WesternAnimation/ChipNDaleRescueRangers'' episode "Le Purrfect Crime", Dale gets one which uses [[AbnormalAmmo expresso beans]].
* The ''WesternAnimation/EdEddNEddy'' episode "Know it All Ed" has Edd using a Gatling ''water'' gun made of Canadian squirt guns [[note]]turkey basters[[/note]].
* An ''WesternAnimation/InspectorGadget'' episode featured a search for a potato-based one of these, in the old hand-cranked version.
* ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' features this as a visual gag in A Canterlot Wedding. 341* Richard Gatling invented the Gatling Gun in 1861, in time for occasional use in the American Civil War (and against the Union's ''own civilians'' in the New York Draft Riots). It was a hand-cranked device on a small carriage, firing a rifle cartridge. Models varied between ten and six barrels. It may not have been the first ''machine'' gun (note that it was hand-cranked -- unlike the 1884 Maxim Gun), but by far the most devastating firing rate of its time.
** In 1890, a Gatling was mated with a motor for the first time. This gave such promising results that Gatling himself patented a version with 10 barrels and a built-in electric motor in 1893. It fired 50 rounds per second, a rate that would go unsurpassed for 60 years.
*** And even better? The ATF classifies the hand-crank versions as [[https://www.atf.gov/regulations-rulings/rulings/atf-rulings/atf-ruling-2004-5.html not machine guns.]]
---> ATF and its predecessor agency, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), have historically held that the original, crank-operated Gatling Gun, and replicas thereof, are not automatic firearms or machineguns as defined. See Rev. Rul. 55-528, 1955-2 C.B. 482. The original Gatling Gun is a rapid-firing, hand-operated weapon. The rate of fire is regulated by the rapidity of the hand-cranking movement, manually controlled by the operator. It is not a "machinegun" as that term is defined in 26 U.S.C. 5845(b) because it is not a weapon that fires automatically.
** When the Vulcan cannon (see below) was being developed, the General Electric engineers borrowed a Gatling gun from a museum and rigged it with an electric motor to test the concept. Possibly an example of research failure, given that Gatling himself had long-since patented such a device, but they still needed to test to see if the rates of fire they wanted were achievable (patenting and testing being two entirely different things.)
*** The old museum piece could fire 4,000 rounds per minute without problems when equipped with an electric motor instead of a hand crank.
*** And the irony behind all this? Gatling was trying to make a weapon so terrible it would ''[[SwordOfDamocles scare people off of war]]''.
*** Well, end wars quicker at least (in those days, most soldiers died of disease).
* The Gatling was not the only rotary gun produced during the 19th century. Its biggest competitor (in both the literal and figurative senses) was the Hotchkiss Revolving Cannon, which had five barrels and fired a 37mm projectile weighing a full pound at 58 rounds per minute. Rotating barrels were considered 'prior art' dating back to the pepperbox revolver and could not be patented. Gatling's actual patents covered the breach and feed mechanisms.
* The rotary gun experienced renewed popularity in the second half of the 20th century as anti-aircraft weapons. Where firing windows are measured in fractions of seconds, higher rates of fire are a massive advantage and an externally powered gun can't be stopped by a dud cartridge. Another major reason is that rotary guns have an inherent tolerance for higher rates of fire due to the presence of multiple barrels; when compared to a single-barreled machine gun firing at 1,000 rpm, a rotary gun that has a maximum firing rate of 1,000 rpm fires at least 200 rounds per barrel per minute, which is at acceptable levels for the gun for continuous use and therefore significantly lessens the chance of overheating or, worse, jamming (two problems that single-barreled guns always have and likely will never be corrected despite technological advances in the future). The 20mm M61 Vulcan, developed in 1959, is still in use to this day on US fighter aircraft. Newer versions of the M61 are lighter and have a faster rate of fire, with derivatives (GAU-22 and GAU-8) firing heavier shells.
** The [=GAU-19/B=] Lightweight Gatling Gun ([[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsF2b__Saeg video here]]), while sporting a more modest 3 barrels and a less buzzsaw-like 1300 rounds per minute, fires hefty .50 caliber bullets from a weapon light enough to be mounted on smaller vehicles.
** With advancements in both aircraft design and precision munitions, gun-based AntiAir solutions have fallen out of favor given that the effective range of many guided bombs and missiles is measured in tens of miles, allowing an aircraft to engage ground targets from outside of gun range[[note]]although, if used in concert with missile-based defenses, anti-air guns have opportunities to take shots at aircraft attempting to fly below the engagement envelope of Surface to Air Missile batteries instead.[[/note]] That said, it wasn't unheard of for Vulcan-equipped AntiAir platforms to see use against enemy ''ground'' forces. Against anything that wasn't a tank or a particularly solid fortification, Vulcans and other rapid-fire cannon systems have proven devastatingly effective, provided they are allowed within a few miles of the target.
* The M134 Minigun ([[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIlwHT4IdRc demonstration video here]]) is a smaller version of the Vulcan chambered in 7.62 NATO. It's used by some helicopters and ground vehicles as a more rapid-firing alternative to conventional machine guns. The huge ammunition stores required, power feeds and weight of the gun preclude a man-pack configuration. Indeed, the additional weight and space needed to support miniguns can often preclude their use even on said helicopters and ground vehicles if they need the space for carrying more people or cargo. They do see use for such missions as [[GunshipRescue Combat Search And Rescue]], where the need for [[MoreDakka overwhelming firepower]] combines with relatively light transport needs.
* GE also developed a 5.56 caliber version called the "Six Pack" or "Microgun" (officially the [=XM214=]), which was envisaged with the insane fire rate of 9,000–10,000 rpm. It was tested but not adopted, proving that there were limits to how far one could push the big numbers of little bullets philosophy. The 5.56 lacked enough punch to justify the added weight and complication. It is worth noting though that unlike nearly all the other rotary barrel weapons, this one actually was capable of being man-portable, though even then it was generally carried by two men and intended mainly for firing from a vehicle pintle mount or tripod.
* Empty Shell announced in 2017 a suitcase-sized [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdGueKkjQlk XM556 Microgun]], which uses the same ammo type as the [=XM214=]. It has a less ammo-guzzling fire rate at about 6000 rpm and has had minor improvements made to its design, like the ability for its barrels to rotate in either direction, making it easier to clear jams, and the ability to be fired at 90 degree angles up and down, as well as completely upside down.
* The GAU-8 Avenger, a gun so [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:GAU-8_meets_VW_Type_1.jpg enormous]] that the A-10 Thunderbolt II was built around it, rather than building the gun into the A-10. It fires seventy 30mm depleted uranium rounds per second, each capable of penetrating 69mm of armor at 500m. The gun can expend its entire magazine of 1,200 rounds in 17 seconds, and at maximum fire rate, the recoil force is a significant fraction of the engines' thrust. The gun has to fire from the barrel at the 9 o'clock position, as firing from the traditional 12 o'clock position would push the plane to the side and throw off aim. While not enough to [[RecoilBoost stall the airplane or fly it backward]], each burst slows it down enough to help the pilot correct his aim.
** The Avenger is also the centerpiece of the [[http://navweaps.com/Weapons/WNNeth_30mm_Goalkeeper.php Goalkeeper CIWS system]], much as the M61 Vulcan is to the American Phalanx system. Compared to the Phalanx, Goalkeeper has significantly better range and hitting power, the tradeoff being a heavier and more cumbersome mount that, most importantly, penetrates below the deck. This makes it much trickier to install than the Phalanx, which can basically be bolted wherever there's deck space.
* The [[http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/RED%20QUEEN.htm T249 "Vigilante,"]] a tank with a [[{{BFG}} 37mm Gatling cannon]].
* The Russians built the Gryazev-Shipunov [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gryazev-Shipunov_GSh-6-23 GSh-6-23,]] a gas-operated rotary cannon firing at the incredible rate of 10,000 rounds per minute. ([[VideoGame/TeamFortress2 Sasha's]] stated firing rate was a ShoutOut to this gun, although its actual in-game firing rate is 2400.) Its higher-caliber relative the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gryazev-Shipunov_GSh-6-30 GSh-6-30]] fires at 6,000 rpm, and an even more powerful CIWS variant can fire 10,000 rounds per minute but is 2 tonnes heavier than the standard 6-30. Gas-powered guns trade freedom from an external power source and a vastly lighter structure (The [=GSh=]-6-30 weighs only 150 kilograms, less than a third of what the GAU-8 weighs!) for increased vibration at some cost in reliability, and the higher rates of fire required a belt feed system which proved prone to jamming under severe g loads. The beltless feed versions that solved this problem limit the rate of fire to a (still astounding) 8,500 RPM. Dud cartridge stoppages are solved through the clever use of ten pyrotechnic "cocking charges" to start/restart the firing cycle.
** [=GSh=]-6-30 being so light even [[HoistByHisOwnPetard became its own undoing]] when used as an aircraft cannon. It was a principal weapon of the [=MiG=]-27 fighter-bomber of TheEighties, but the Soviets did a mistake of trying to mate it to an existing airframe (of a [=MiG=]-23 fighter), instead of creating a new airframe around it like with GAU-8 and A-10. Because it's been designed as a ''naval'' CIWS gun, for the much sturdier mount than possible on an aircraft, the inherently high vibration of a gas-operated cannon wasn't much of a problem on a ship. On a plane, though, firing a barely less powerful round with about twice as higher rate of fire as GAU-8, it basically shook the aircraft apart. Broken landing lights and vibration-induced fatigue cracks were a norm, and in one notable incident ''an instrument panel fell out'' on a pilot's knees after firing the gun. Unsurprisingly, its use was limited to the Navy ever since.
* There are videos posted all over the internet of the Gatling gun-toting Chevrolet Suburban created by minigun manufacturer Dillon Aero. Just the thing for third world dictators who don't care about collateral casualties, but rumors that the US Secret Service uses them to protect the president are either FanWank propelled by RuleOfCool or [[StrawmanPolitical something uglier]]. Either way, the manufacturer enjoys free publicity.
* The Neal submachinegun was intended to give the low-power but dirt-cheap .22 Long Rifle round effective military use. Because one round by itself does not do much, the gun was intended to deliver ''many'' rounds to the target by the use of five rotating barrels, allowing for a cyclic fire rate of 3,000 rounds per minute - though the use of only one firing mechanism makes its relation to the Gatling concept looser than most other rotary guns.
* A wealthy gun nut named Neil Smith managed to [[MoreDakka increase the amount of dakka]] of the General Electric M134 Minigun by mounting [[http://www.eternalsuns.com/gallery/misc.php?do=printimage&i=7 three of them on one stand.]] However, there was [[http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=6&f=2&t=249466 an accident at a range in 1995]] in which a 13-year-old girl was killed. When she shot the monstrous gun--all three Gatlings were operational--its recoil produced enough inertia to cause it to stand up backwards, tip over and fall upon her.
* [[RuleOfCool Just for the sake of coolness]], the Fenix [=TK45=] flashlight was [[https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT6UADh-fImgZ_tBTk8mj2Bl_Y7oURj-8m_ZQ&usqp=CAU styled after a tri-barreled Gatling, with three separate bezels with their own emitters standing in for the barrels.]] It even "rotates" in a fashion: if it's turned on in the lowest output mode, only one of the three bezels lights up, and they rotate among themselves as the torch is turned off then on again.
* The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_x_qktLEO0 Tippmann]] Gatling Gun is chambered for [=.22LR=], a relatively small and low-powered round. It's honestly more of a range toy than a real weapon, and is legally not an automatic weapon since it is hand-cranked.
