Using a hammer as a weapon is not a trope on its own. One of the following tropes may apply instead:

* BludgeonedToDeath: Using weapons, including hammers, to fatally beat someone.
* BrutishCharacterBrutishWeapon: Brutal and physically powerful characters are associated with crude and direct weaponry, such as hammers.
* CarryABigStick: Using blunt objects, including hammers, as a weapon.
* HammeredIntoTheGround: Beating something into the earth as if they were a nail being hammered into wood, such as with an actual hammer.
* HammerOfTheHoly: Hammers and maces are particularly associated with religious fighters like priests, clerics, and paladins.
* HumongousHeadedHammer: A hammer with a gigantic head relative to the haft and likely the wielder, used as a weapon.
* HyperspaceMallet: Characters in cartoony comedies are prone to pulling hammers Hammerspace out of nowhere to smash people for a laugh. Cartoony characters showing up in more serious mediums also pull hammers out of nowhere to smash people, only there the hammers can genuinely hurt their targets.
* ImprovisedWeapon: Using hammers as an emergency weapon when there is nothing else available.
* ThunderHammer: A hammer with ShockAndAwe abilities, usually derived from Thor's hammer, Mjölnir.
* Vibroweapon: A hammer or similar weapon that vibrates at high speeds in order to maximize its smashing power.
* WeaponBasedCharacterization: Characters' weapons reflect their personality and/or traits.
* WeaponsOfTheirTrade: A specific style of ImprovisedWeapon when a tradesperson uses the tools of their trade as combat weaponry, such as a blacksmith wielding a hammer.
* WeaponSpecialization: Characters or classes of characters have signature weapons to help them stand out from the rest of the cast.
