->''"I've invested five good years in my marriage to Rex and I've nailed his arse fair and square. Now I'm going to have it stuffed, mounted, and have my lady friends come over and throw darts at it."''
-->-- '''Marilyn Rexroth''', ''Film/IntolerableCruelty''

When a character strongly dislikes a person but lacks the means of exerting retribution against them in reality, they will [[PercussiveTherapy release their anger]] by throwing darts at a photograph of them. Usually, the photograph is stuck to the bullseye of a dartboard.

Sometimes, this is used as a means to prepare themselves for an actual confrontation with the enemy. The character usually has good dart-throwing skills and is able to hit their target accurately. In comedies, expect a dart to be thrown at the board just as the character in the picture opens the door it is hanging on.

Occasionally a punching bag or archery target may be used for the same purpose, particularly if the angry person is athletically-inclined. The darts may be replaced with throwing knives for the same effect. If attacking the target actually hurts the person in the picture, then this trope can overlap with VoodooDoll.

See DecisionDarts for another trope that involves dart throwing. Also compare MustacheVandalism and StabThePicture, which involve other ways of using a picture to show disdain for its subject.

[[folder:Anime & Manga]]
* ''Manga/UruseiYatsura'':
** Parodied: Kurama has one of Ataru; she throws a dart at it, only for the image to ''catch the dart in its teeth'' and gleefully ''eat it.''
** Also, one of the Spice Girls has a somewhat cruder version with doodled pictures of Benten, Oyuki, and Lum with Ataru. When she's trying to be dramatic about suggesting they try seducing Ataru to get to Lum, she attempts to look cool by announcing her intent with a thrown dart, but it misses by a huge margin -- so she has to walk to the wall and manually jabs Ataru with it.
* In ''Manga/CaseClosed'', when Vermouth's hideout is raided, a picture of pre-Apoptoxin Haibara is found tacked on a dartboard with a giant "X" drawn over her face.
* In ''Anime/{{Mazinkaiser}}'', Prof. Yumi is given a dartboard with Baron Ashura's face on it as a birthday present...so naturally, Baron Ashura had chosen that day to abduct and impersonate the good professor.
* In ''Manga/VampireKnight'', Kaname pins a letter opener into a picture of Zero and Yuki (in Zero's neck, to be specific) after Zero bites Yuki.
* ''Literature/TheGardenOfSinners'' has a variant of this. With a plushie of the object of hatred in place of a picture and fire magic in place of the darts but the intent is the same.
* In ''Manga/HajimeNoIppo'', when Ippo visits the Mashibas' apartment while on a date with Kumi, she admits to being embarrassed because there is a picture of Ippo in the living room. To Ippo's chagrin, the picture was pasted on Mashiba's sandbag.
** Takamura invokes this when here brings Ippo to the Kamogawa Gym for the first time after saving the latter from some bullies and tries to cheer him up by pinning a crude drawing of one of the bullies on the sandbag to get Ippo to vent his frustrations.
* In ''Anime/YuGiOhArcV'', Shingo throws darts at a picture of Yuya after Reiji hires him to steal Yuya's cards.
* Gen's family in ''Manga/BarefootGen'' are reprimanded for not stepping on drawings of the faces of Roosevelt, Stalin, and Churchill.
* Weaponized in ''Manga/HunterXHunter'' by the Ortho Siblings, a brother-sister duo. The dartboard has SympatheticMagic in that darts that hit the board will have the subject instantly impaled roughly where the dart has hit the board. In addition, playing a perfect game of darts will kill the subject.
* In ''Manga/OutlawStar'', Harry [=MacDougall=], while adjusting his bionic arm, was throwing darts at a picture of Gene Starwind.
* In one version of ''[[Anime/LupinIIIPartII Lupin III]]'', Zenigata starts off an episode expertly shooting cardboard cutouts of Lupin in the chest during target practice.
* Inverted in ''Anime/{{Tamagotchi}}''. Himespetchi keeps a "Happy Darts" dartboard depicting her crush Mametchi in her house; it's just one of many Mametchi-themed things she possesses.
* Inverted in ''Manga/SPYxFAMILY''. Fiona shoots at a practice target with a photo of her crush Loid taped onto it, but none of the bullets hit the photo--they form the shape of a heart around around it, instead.

Rather than a picture, he chained Jack O'Neill to it and used a [[DeathIsCheap sarcophagus to resurrect him]] every time he got a "bullseye" (this wasn't out of pettiness, he was [[ColdBloodedTorture trying to extract information from O'Neill]]).

Ultimately, a picture of Andy and April is put on the cover while the picture of the former heads is used as a dartboard by Ron and Leslie. Ron nails one on the groin and Leslie gets giddy at a neck shot.
* ''Series/CriminalMinds'': An [=UnSub=] [[note]]'''Un'''identified '''Sub'''ject. The perp, Bad guy, Villain, whatever [[/note]] uses a photo of his stepmother as a dartboard. This normally funny trope becomes squicky when you realize the unsub has piquerism -- a sexual obsession with stabbing, cutting, and piercing.

* The Australian sketch comedy show ''Series/FullFrontal'' did a sketch that parodied an advertisement from the lead up to the 1996 Australian election in which veteran Australian actor Bill Hunter openly abused Liberal Party leader John Howard. The parody, written after Howard won the election, featured Ross Williams doing an uncanny Hunter impersonation and explaining that he was lying and in fact thinks Howard is terrific. The zooming out and panning of the camera reveals, among other things, a dartboard bearing Howard's image and a poster with a Hitler mustache and swastika drawn on it.

* ''Series/{{Reba}}'': At the beginning of the fifth-season episode "Reba the Landlord", Barbra Jean, anticipating herself and Brock losing their home due to Brock's financial hardships, gives Reba a going-away present. Reba's reaction, upon seeing the present Barbra Jean gives her, hints at this trope:
-->'''Reba''': (holding up a framed portrait of Barbra Jean) Look, kids -- a dartboard.
-->'''Barbra Jean''': (annoyed) [[SarcasmMode Ha ha]], Carrot Top.
* Shown on ''[[Characters/SurvivorTheAustralianOutback Survivor: Back from the Outback]]:'' Kel's Army buddies are shown having one with a snapshot of Jerri -- which falls down at the end of the segment.
* ''Series/TopGear''
** The show featured one of these bearing the face of an executive responsible for the Smart [=ForFour=] car, as the brochure depiction of the car compared the interior to a lounge, thus triggering a challenge in which Richard Hammond and James May were to spend 24 hours in it. Hammond wasn't happy, hence the board.
** In another episode, the guys go to a [[ItMakesSenseInContext drive-by shooting class]]. Their target of choice is the Stig, since the most recent driver to play the role, Ben Collins, had written a book, blowing his contractual clause to [[TheFaceless remain anonymous]]. It's telling Hammond opts to turn his cutout around so he can shoot the Stig {{in the back}}.
* ''Series/{{Narcos}}'': Halfway through Season 4, as Kiki is ready to go back to the U.S. after spending years with the DEA in Mexico, he and his colleagues are seen throwing darts at a board outlining the Guadalajara Cartel network. 237* ''ComicStrip/FoxTrot'' did a variation that mixed this trope with BatterUp where Andy Fox, expressing irritation at having to go golfing with Roger Fox while the kids are out, envisioned Roger Fox's face on the golf ball making statements that were apparently audio flashbacks to when he got her to go golfing, with Andy proceeding to hit the ball extraordinarily hard, enough to break the tee, and Roger obliviously remarking "Easy, dear. You want to ''hit'' the ball, not ''kill'' it.", to which Andy, whose arms are currently twisted around her body, coldly responds "Says you."

** ''Spirit of Justice'' takes the trope a little less subtle, as during a cutscene, someone can be seen throwing a knife, only to land on a picture of [[spoiler:the [[BigBad main antagonist responsible of all the events of the game]]]]. He is later questioned about it, only for him to claim that he was aiming for a bug that was flying around.

Said game has "moles" that are clearly meant to be Sonic and Super Sonic (which garners more points than hitting regular sonic). There are also Eggman moles; if whoever's playing the game hits one, they lose points.
** A more straight example is the "Sonic Darts" mini-game in the Versus mode of ''VideoGame/SonicShuffle''. The game involves throwing darts at a dartboard with a picture of Dr. Eggman on it.
