->'''Phineas:''' You kick butt! You rock out! And you can always make us laugh with the kind of laughter that makes you squirt stuff out your nose. Summer would be no fun without you! We just wish you could see yourself the way we see you. You may not be "The Chosen One"...\
'''Ferb:''' But we choose you as a sister, every time.
-->-- ''WesternAnimation/PhineasAndFerbTheMovieCandaceAgainstTheUniverse''

If your show is aimed at a younger audience, this young woman (usually in her mid to late teens, sometimes in her early 20s) will be the character everyone thinks is cool due to the maturity, competence and style her age brings along. Her personality can vary widely from the {{Tsundere}} to the EmotionlessGirl to the {{Tomboy}}, but she will be at least considered as a candidate to the TeamMom and a mentor-like figure to boys and girls alike. The {{Shorttank}} often admires her, even when she playfully flirts with the much younger male lead and steals everyone's attention, and the ShrinkingViolet will admire and at the same time envy how open she is with her thoughts and feelings.

This young lady may catch a {{shonen}} series lead's eye, though often more due to her hotness if he has already entered puberty. She's more likely to be paired up with either TheBigGuy, the TeamDad or the BigBrotherMentor. Or ''maybe'', if she's persistent enough, she'll end up in an OddCouple with an AloofBigBrother or a single father. She may also evolve into a TeamMom thanks to CharacterDevelopment.

Expect a somewhat jaded character who prefers to work the system to their advantage rather than admit to others she's become cynical. If old enough to drink, she may also be a HardDrinkingPartyGirl, or even TheLadette; if not, she'll often be a LethalChef and/or BigEater. If older than the standard, she might be an OldMaid as well. She's often a GoodBadGirl and frequently the person who keeps the main characters in line. Sometimes she's even portrayed as the only person the protagonist is truly afraid of.

Note that, while less widespread, this trope can be gender-swapped.

Compare OneeSama, also a sister figure but usually more ladylike, quiet and graceful, and AloofBigBrother, where the status causes a conflict between the (usually male) siblings. Contrast with DisappointingOlderSibling if she's regarded with shame and derision in the eyes of her younger siblings, and BigBrotherMentor, a similar but not identical trope much more common in male characters.

Almost all of these characters will have some form of a BigSisterInstinct. And it's the opposite of BigSisterBully.

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* ''ComicBook/{{Batman}}'':
** [[Characters/{{Batgirl}} Barbara Gordon]] is usually the cool big sis type for [[Characters/NightwingDickGrayson Dick Grayson]] (until they formed a relationship), [[Characters/BatmanJasonTodd Jason Todd]] (in the ComicBook/New52), [[Characters/RobinTimDrake Tim Drake]] (especially prior to ComicBook/{{Flashpoint|DCComics}} and in ''WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries'') and ''sometimes'' [[https://i.pinimg.com/originals/b7/e1/f3/b7e1f32e76cbc68fc582cc11e76feec1.jpg to Damian Wayne]].
** Stephanie Brown is a big sister figure to Damian while Barbara is such for her alongside Cassandra Cain.
** [[Characters/BatmanHuntress Huntress]] also plays this role for Tim Drake, viewing him as an endearingly annoying little brother. She occasionally plays TeamMom during teams up like in ''ComicBook/PublicEnemies'' when Tim and Cassandra Cain are goofing around during the mission and Huntress tells them off.
* ''ComicBook/BlackCanary'': Black Canary is this towards Roy Harper, Conner Hawke, and Mia Dearden, as well as Emiko Queen in ''ComicBook/GreenArrowRebirth'', not to mention Sin. Thanks to the significant age gap between her and Oliver, she was actually closer in age to his ward and son, so while technically she's their adopted stepmom, they generally saw her as more like a sister. She was also this to Stephanie Brown briefly, though her relationship with the Batkids hasn't been as explored.
* ''ComicBook/{{Dollicious}}'': SupremeChef Ramnen takes her time while working to teach her younger sisters cooking skills and tries to be as fun as possible while doing this. She even read them recepies book to sleep.
* ''ComicBook/GenderQueerAMemoir'': Maia's younger sister Phoebe, whom she gushes about, is a very hip, accepting person (and illustrated this book).
* ''ComicBook/TheSandman1989'': Death, who is the sweetest, gentlest girl anyone could ever meet. She loves everyone, and everyone, audience included, loves her. She is by far the sanest of the Endless, and is able to provide a pragmatic perspective to her younger brother, the anguished poet Dream. Most importantly, she is extremely badass when it is called for, and is the only one of the Endless who "is bound by no rules." The ironic contrast between the kind and beautiful Death and the typical Grim Reaper archetype is deliberate and effective. That said, based on ''Endless Nights'', it took her some time to grow into the role, as she was much less pleasant when younger ("some time" being on the order of billions of years).
%%Administrivia.PartialContextExample* ''ComicBook/SpiderGirl'': Mayday Parker is well on her way to be this to her baby brother Benjamin.
* ''ComicBook/SpiderMan'':
** [[Characters/MarvelComicsPeterParker Peter Parker]], by now in his late twenties, tends to act as an older brother figure to several other younger heroes in the Marvel Universe whenever he makes guest appearances in their books.
** [[Characters/MarvelComicsMilesMorales Miles Morales]], the younger, less experienced Spider-Man has been mentored by Peter ever since ''ComicBook/SecretWars2015'', since he's only been Spider-Man for a few years.
%%Administrivia.PartialContextExample** In ''ComicBook/GhostSpider2019'', Peter assists [[ComicBook/SpiderGwen Gwen]] as she navigates Earth-616 as both a student and a hero.
%%Administrivia.ZeroContextExample* ''ComicBook/{{WITCH}}'': After Orube gets over her ArrogantKungFuGuy attitude, she becomes this to the Guardians.
* Kate Godwin was this to Dorothy in ''ComicBook/DoomPatrol'', [[spoiler: which makes the fact she accidentally killed her all the more tragic.]]
* ''ComicBook/WonderWoman'' [[ComicBook/WonderWoman1987 Vol. 2]]: ComicBook/WonderGirl [[Characters/WonderGirlCassieSandsmark Cassie Sandsmark]] really looks up to and admires the first Wonder Girl, Donna Troy who was the first adult to take her seriously as a hero instead of trying to talk her out of it and gifted her the bullet-proof bracelets Donna wore during her time as Wonder Girl.
%%Administrivia.ZeroContextExample* ''ComicBook/XFactor'': In ''All New X-Factor'': Characters/ScarletWitch tries to be this for her half-sister Polaris.
* ''ComicBook/XMen'':
** Originally [[Characters/MarvelComicsJeanGrey Jean Grey]] was this to newcomer [[Characters/MarvelComicsStorm Storm]], Storm was this to then newcomer [[Characters/MarvelComicsRogue Rogue]] and then Rogue became this to [[Characters/MarvelComicsNightcrawler Nightcrawler]] when she learned he was the son of her surrogate mother [[Characters/MarvelComicsMystique Mystique]].
** When [[Characters/MarvelComicsJubilee Jubilee]] shows up Jean, Storm and Rogue alternate between this for her.
** Storm also filled this role toward [[Characters/MarvelComicsKittyPryde Kitty Pryde]]. She calls the younger woman "Kitten" as a mark of affection and to [[Characters/XMen70sMembers Colossus]] and Nightcrawler, both of whom she affectionately calls "little brother".
** Jean was also like this to Kitty when they first met, which serves as FridgeBrilliance as Kitty [[https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcT4nKy-nubV0be1xgYuudCnFVAbW1uEteEASognuAtNRvdYNuoq does the same]] for young Jean.
** Despite a few [[HeelFaceTurn betrayals]] [[Characters/MarvelComicsPsylocke Psylocke]] and [[Characters/MarvelComicsEmmaFrost Emma Frost]] can be this for the younger X-Men.
** Although the timeline of events indicates Megan is actually somewhat older, her ''far'' more experienced cousin, Laura Kinney aka [[Characters/MarvelComicsLauraKinney X-23]], takes this role in their relationship.
** Later on, Jubilee becomes this for Laura herself.
** Laura becomes a much more literal one in ''ComicBook/AllNewWolverine'' to Gabby, a 13 year-old clone created by [[ComicBook/SpiderMan2099 Alchemax Genetics]], who [[BigSisterWorship greatly looks up to her]].
* ''ComicBook/YTheLastMan'': Yorick always thought of his sister Hero this way... [[spoiler:until she joined the Daughters of the Amazon after the {{Gendercide}} and murdered someone in front of him. He had a tough time accepting her HeelFaceTurn after that.]]
[[/folder]]

%%[[folder:Comic Strips]]
%%Administrivia.ZeroContextExample* ''ComicStrip/{{Peanuts}}'': Lucy acts this way towards her little brother Rerun a lot in the later strips, very unlike her relationship with her another little brother Linus in the earlier ones.
%%[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* ''Fanfic/AdviceAndTrust'': Misato tries acting like this to her wards, taking care of them, trying to protect them and even encouraging Shinji to confess his feelings to Asuka. The line between this and ParentalSubstitute gets blurred as time goes on.
* The ''Fanfic/AftermathOfTheGames'' universe has a few examples:
** Human Cadence, like her Equestrian counterpart, is this for Sci-Twi, comforting her during her post-Friendship Games nightmares, and [[spoiler:spends a night guarding her with a baseball bat after Sci-Twi was nearly kidnapped by the Changelings]].
** In this story, the human versions of Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo are [[RelatedInTheAdaptation related to one another]], with the former regarding that as obvious.
** Princess Twilight becomes Sunset's Big Sister Best Friend Forever, after the latter [[spoiler:ascends to alicornhood and Celestia asks to be their ParentalSubstitute]].
** Sunset became this to Apple Bloom after being adopted into the Apple Family, tutoring her on her homework and even forgiving her for the Anon-A-Miss incident. WordOfGod says Sunset has this relationship with Sci-Twi, with the former helping the latter through her nightmares and providing her advice and moral support.
** Adagio, despite her flaws, deeply cares for both Aria and Sonata, [[spoiler:even willing to team up with the Rainbooms to rescue them from the Changelings]].
* ''Fanfic/BecomingMoreThanWhatIAm'':
** The ArchangelGabriel is this to Max, having been the one to give her her sword and offering her advice when she needed it.
** Gender-Inverted. While Lucifer is annoyed that Max didn't take his side during the rebellion and Max felt that Lucifer was a traitor, otherwise Lucifer gets along with her more than their other siblings.
* ''Fanfic/ABalladOfTheDragonAndSheWolf'': Daenerys is this for Arya and it's a major theme. They quickly become close friends and confidants in part due to common experiences and even adopt each other as sisters. Arya's crush on Daenerys is purely Platonic, but that doesn't stop Sansa (ie her biological sister) from [[LesYay speculating there is something more going on]].
* ''Fanfic/TheBlackSheep'' by Creator/AAPessimal introduces Mariella Smith-Rhodes, who wants to grow up just like big sister Johanna. Mariella is evidently a ''sjaemboek'' cut from the same rhinoceros hide, as she has succeeded in being selected for education at the Assassins' Guild School against heavy competition.
** Much later in the cycle, Johanna's two younger daughters both have this relationship with their oldest sister Rebecka. Even the wild child of the three, [[{{Tykebomb}} Famke]], will shut up and do as she's told when Bekki gets ''insistent''. Ruth, the youngest of the three, adores her oldest sister and even schemes to fix her up with a boyfriend.
* Rachel in ''Fanfic/CardcaptorRad'', as despite being Rad's cousin, acts more like an older sister to him and his friends given she's extremely protective of them. Hot Shot also has been slowly evolving from his OneOfTheKids mentality to something of an older brother figure to the kids.
* Karai becomes something like this to Mikey in ''Fanfic/TheChroniclesOfKaraiGettingHerShitTogether'', often humoring his weirder habits and claims (coming find that [[ObfuscatingStupidity he is more aware of his surroundings that he seems]]) and even offers to beat up Raphael for him when he feels like he can't handle it.
* ''Fanfic/ACrownOfStars'': Misato is a mix of ParentalSubstitute and this to Asuka and Shinji. In chapter 70 she calls herself this. With those exact words and capitalization.
-->'''Misato''':''"So I'll be your Cool Big Sis instead."''
* ''Fanfic/ChildOfTheStorm'':
** Jean is this to the entire Xavier Institute's student body as the ''de facto'' headgirl, though she reserves particular amounts of this for her younger cousin, Harry (who both happily reciprocates and struggles [[HormoneAddledTeenager with his hormones]]), and [[spoiler: her [[SeparatedAtBirth stolen at birth]] twin sister, Maddie Pryor a.k.a. Rachel Grey, who was raised as a LivingWeapon by Sinister (post HeelFaceTurn and discovery of her origins, she goes by Maddie Grey)]]. While the latter is the same age as her, in terms of social skills and normal life experience, she is far, far behind. However, the sheer self-imposed pressure, plus her many other responsibilities and GoGetterGirl facade, plus the fact that she's a teenager, leads to a breakdown around chapter 50 of the sequel - though she remains this after she balances out a bit.
** Carol is this to Diana and, briefly, to Bobby Drake and Mattie Franklin. However, she isn't this to her own little brothers, partly because of her difficult home-life, being more of an AloofBigSister - as the older of the two, Stevie, points out in the sequel. Carol admits, somewhat ashamed, that he's right (though it should also be noted that she's affectionate enough and violently protective of them, she just tended not to pay too much attention to them). She gets better afterwards, and also takes this role towards Peter Parker in ''Unfinished Business''.
** Harry and Jean-Paul both take this role towards Clark in the sequel, the former in particular - it helps that they actually ''look'' like they could be brothers.
* ''Fanfic/ConstantsAndVariables'': Elizabeth acts as this to Harry. She sees the appalling situation with the Dursleys and immediately takes it upon herself to take him in (despite having no employment, money or living situation to speak of at the time). She helps him learn how to use his tear powers, sticks up for him when Snape gives him a hard time, takes him on field trips and vacations throughout the multiverse and helps him with his schemes when he suspects that the school is in danger in any way.
* ''Fanfic/DoingItRightThisTime'': After finding out [[spoiler:Rei is ([[AlternateCharacterInterpretation in this story]]) her mother's clone,]] Ritsuko changes completely her behaviour towards Rei, treating her like her little sister and being quite overprotective from her.
%%Administrivia.ZeroContextExample** ''Fanfic/DungeonKeeperAmi'' has [[IronLady Commander]] [[ActionGirl Cathy]] slowly becoming this to her new boss, [[ADungeonIsYou Keeper]] [[BadPowersGoodPeople Mercury]]. [[spoiler:And later on to Mercury's [[ItMakesSenseInContext adopted twin sister]], Tiger.]]
* In ''Fanfic/EvaSessionsSomeplaceVastAndDry'', Misato is a straightforward example, as she is literally Shinji's and Rei's adopted older sister without the ParentalSubstitute and MrsRobinson subtexts of her canon counterpart; Asuka also fondly remembers her as her babysitter.
* ''Fanfic/FacingTheFutureSeries'': Once [[spoiler:Danielle]] joins the Fenton family, Danny and Jazz both grow into this role easily.
* In ''Fanfic/FracturedFates'', Kaneki acts as this towards the [[TokenMiniMoe short]] and [[ShrinkingViolet timid]] Asuna. She also acted as this towards her actual younger sister, Yuna, [[spoiler:prior to her death]].
* ''Fanfic/GirlAdventurer'': Sarah sees Sheila as this, and Sheila also cares deeply for Sarah, seeing her as sort of a protégé. As such, when the two are free, they often work together on various projects.
%%Administrivia.ZeroContextExample* ''Fanfic/AGrowingAffection'' has Yugao Uzuki serve as this to both Team Kakashi and her own team.
* In the ''WesternAnimation/RiseOfTheGuardians'' fic ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8751000/1/Guardian-of-Light Guardian of Light]]'', Jamie and Sophie have an adopted elder sibling, Helen, who is this to them both. It should be note-worthy that throughout the fandom, there are many stories in which Jamie and Sophie have an elder sister. Helen is the ''only'' one who actually cares about them, and doesn't abandon them the minute she meets Jack.
** By the same author, there's the crossover fic with ''WesternAnimation/{{Megamind}}'', called ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8772736/1/Protectors Protectors]]'', only this girl, Rikki, is Roxanne's elder sister. She's just as awesome, but not just to Roxanne; she's this to all the kids.
* ''Fanfic/HowFarDoTheseRootsGoDown'': Isabela, in spite of knowing that doing so would only lower Alma's already low opinion of her, shattered the vision of Mirabel without a second thought.
* In ''Fanfic/InfinityTrainBlossomingTrail'', Parker reveals that his sister Chloe is one of these because of how she makes amazing horror stories and all sorts of spooky shows. It's through her that Parker is more confident with his interests.
* In ''Fanfic/KarmaInRetrograde'', Touya was this to his younger siblings, shielding them from Endeavor's abuse at his own expense and always trying to put a smile on their faces through bad jokes and play. He's utterly horrified to discover that he becomes Dabi, a murderous villain who is willing to attack his youngest brother.
* ''Fanfic/TheKakashiWay'': Naruto swiftly comes to regard his newfound friend Indra in this fashion, unaware that he's actually a [[PeggySue time-displaced]] adult Sasuke. He starts addressing him as "Indra-nii" the day after they first meet, and openly admits to Sakura that he would address Iruka the same way if Iruka wasn't already "Iruka-sensei".
* In the fic ''Fanfic/MeetingALoud'', Luna and the older Loud daughters all do their best to be there for their new foster brother after he moves in, especially when they learn just how much trauma the poor kid's been through.
* ''Fanfic/MikePines'': Mike loves to make Dipper and Mabel happy and, between him being a zombie [[spoiler:and later, a cyborg]] who is always around to lend them a hand, Dipper and Mabel certainly think he's awesome.
* ''Fanfic/NeonGenesisEvangelionGenocide'': Hikari says Asuka is like her bigger sister when she's trying to talk her friend into staying with her.
-->'''Asuka:''' I'm not your sister. I don't have any family. I don't need family.\
'''Hikari:''' Do it for me then. I told you Kodama moved out, right? I need someone to talk to, you know, about girl stuff. I need someone told tell me if my outfit matches my shoes. I need someone to tell me how I could do better than being just a boring class representative. Someone I can trust.\
'''Asuka:''' You mean you need a bigger sister\
'''Hikari:''' Well, since you put it that way...
* Peta in ''Fanfic/PetaParker'' has a particularly close relationship with Morgan Stark, one of her jobs as a Stark Industries intern being to act as her babysitter.
* In ''Fanfic/PokemonResetBloodlines'', Pike Queen Lucy becomes this to [[spoiler:Brock's siblings, especially [[OfficialCouple after they start dating and become engaged]]]].
* Most ''Animation/{{Pucca}}'' fanfics tend to portray Pucca herself as being one to Garu's younger brother Gura, a popular UrbanLegendOfZelda character in the Pucca fandom. Those same fanfics also tend to have Garu himself be a Cool Big Bro (as well as PromotionToParent) to him as well.
%%Administrivia.ZeroContextExample* ''Fanfic/RacerAndTheGeek'' features Rainbow Dash playing this [[http://www.fimfiction.net/story/81159/racer-and-the-geek role to Scootaloo]].
* In ''WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom'' fanfic ''Fanfic/ResurrectedMemories'': Ember during her first life as Amberline [=McLain=] was this to her little sister Amy. This comes back to [[LiteralMetaphor haunt Amy quite literally]] when decades later [[spoiler:she, now going by the nickname A.J. becomes a long-term substitute at Casper High around the same time that a still 16 year old but now half-ghost Ember infiltrates the school under the [[SarcasmMode very clever]] name of [[RealNameAsAnAlias Amberline]] ''Lain'' who then ends up saving Amy's younger daughter Maggie and befriending her older one Zoe all without Ember, Maggie or Zoe [[UnknownRelative ever suspecting their connection]].]]
* In ''Fanfic/RickAndMortyNewDramaAdventures'', Emma plays this role for Kitty.
* In addition to the canon examples, the ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}''/''Literature/TheHobbit''/''Literature/TheLordOfTheRings'' FusionFic ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11852303/1/Rise-of-a-Star-Knight Rise of a Star Knight]]'' and its sequel, ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12404778/1/Knights-of-Remnant-The-Ring-of-Darkness Knights of Remnant: The Ring of Darkness]]'', gives us Jaune's older sister, [[WebAnimation/RedVsBlue Carolina Arc]], who [[spoiler:gave him a copy of her transcript to sneak into Beacon]], taught him how to fight and how to use his [[SuperpowerfulGenetics Star Knight powers]] after the Fall of Vale, and is the [[FourStarBadass General]] of the [[BadassArmy Sky Knights of Vale]], which, as the Star Knight of Vale, is Jaune's personal army.
%%Administrivia.ZeriContextExample* ''Fanfic/TheReactsverse'' has a few examples:
%%Administrivia.ZeroContextExample** ''Fanfic/WeissReacts'': Yang and Winter, as in canon, although Winter is far more of a TeamMom than her canonical counterpart.
%%Administrivia.ZeroContextExample** ''Fanfic/LucinaReacts'': Reflet and Cordelia are this to Robin, though Reflet is more mischievous.
%%Administrivia.ZeroContextExample** ''Fanfic/CorrinReacts'': Scarlet is this, as in canon, and Azura is viewed as this by Elise.
%%Administrivia.ZeroContextExample* ''Fanfic/RubyAndNora'': Yang is still this, and Winter plays this trope much more straight due to AdaptationalNiceGuy.
* In ''Fanfic/SafeAnchorage'', Asha Greyjoy takes on this role both for her actual younger brother Theon, and for Jeyne Poole, who has no family remaining. She's brusque and straightforwards, but also caring and protective towards both of them.
* With Naofumi being 10-years-old in ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13541061/1/Shield-Kid-s-Bizarre-Adventure Shield Kid's Bizarre Adventure]]'', Motoyasu and Ren play this role. But while Motoyasu plays the trope straight with ease, it's deconstructed with Ren, who struggles to maintain his cool persona to keep the image Naofumi has of him.
* Much as in [[VideoGame/DragonAgeII canon]], Hawke is this to her younger sister Bethany in ''Fanfic/SkyholdAcademyYearbook''. They are extremely different, but very close.
* In ''Fanfic/SnippetsOfSirinShariacsLife'' Sirin became one to Kiana Kaslana and it's not hard to see why. How would you react to an older sister that can fly, create portals and comes packaged with a dragon maid?
* Due to Naruto being adopted by Jiraya and Tsunade in ''Fanfic/SonOfTheSannin'', Shizune acts as his older sister and is a major influence during his childhood (in particular, she's the one directly responsible for him and Hinata becoming friends). She also fills this role for Kaida and Hagane after they're born.
* ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/44178163/chapters/111090244 Stone Streak]]'': [[AgeLift 25-years-old]] model Juleka was this for 13-years-old Adrien, being one of the few real friends he has both in and out of work. After his father's death, Juleka learns through Gift that Adrien saw her more as a mix between an HonoraryAunt and a ParentalSubstitute, and she and her wife Marinette [[AdoptivePeerParent would soon take him in as their son]].
* ''Fanfic/TradingGame'': The main protagonist Yuuna serves as this for Mei and many of the orphans in the [[Anime/YuGiOhArcV Fusion Dimension]]. [[spoiler:She later becomes this for Serena and Yuri when attending Duel Academia.]]
* ''Fanfic/TotalDramaAllStarsRewrite'': Cameron says that he sees Zoey and Gwen as these to him. Zoey also sees Gwen as one.
* Gender-inverted with Jason Todd in ''Fanfic/TheVirtueOfRevenge'', who acts as a loving older brother to Damian. He also deliberately invoked this, as he wanted to be a brother Damian could look up to and tried to avoid turning out like his AloofBigBrother Dick Grayson. It ultimately payed off, since Damian greatly looks up to Jason.
%%Administrivia/ZeroContextExample* In the ''Manga/MedakaBox'' fanfic ''Fanfic/WorldAsMyth'', Nabeshima to Zenkichi, and Yobuko to Onigase, at least when the former isn't being a YaoiFangirl.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Animation]]
* Tadashi Hamada of ''WesternAnimation/BigHero6'' is a total Cool Big Bro, [[spoiler:so much so that he was deemed to be TooCoolToLive by the story writers]]. His friends in the Nerd Herd at the university follow his example, quickly becoming devoted to Hiro and looking after him [[spoiler:after Tadashi's death]].
* Merida from ''WesternAnimation/{{Brave}}'' has three little brothers who think she's awesome.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Coco}}'': The epilogue shows Miguel is now an older brother to his newborn sister. During his scene with her, he teaches her about their family in a soothing manner and tone.
* Margo in ''Franchise/DespicableMe'' is this to the two younger girls, Edith and Agnes, though WordOfGod has stated that the three are not biologically related. [[spoiler:However, they legally become sisters after Gru adopts them.]]
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Encanto}}'':
** Luisa is decently close to Mirabel, and most of her personal song has her protecting her little sister from various threats. It appears they are close enough that she at least admits that she is stressing out.
** Although they are actually cousins, Mirabel fulfills this role to Antonio, being the one to comfort and support him when he is feeling anxious.
** Antonio's admiration for Camilo manifests when the latter cheers him with his antics. In a family photo, Camilo crouches down to the height of his younger brother to hug him.
* Gary in ''WesternAnimation/EscapeFromPlanetEarth'' will do anything for his little brother's safety.
* Queen Elsa from ''WesternAnimation/{{Frozen|2013}}'' used to be this (literally, with her ice powers) to her little sister, Princess Anna, when they were young. After almost accidentally killing Anna with her powers, she all but ignored her existence and ultimately isolated herself from the world. By the end of the main events of the first film, [[spoiler:they have rekindled their relationship]].
* In ''WesternAnimation/TheIncredibles1'', Violet becomes this for Dash and Jack-Jack once she gets over her personal issues.
* Tigress to Po in ''WesternAnimation/KungFuPanda2''.
* Played with in ''WesternAnimation/LiloAndStitch''. It seems like Nani used to fill this role for Lilo, but once she had a PromotionToParent, their relationship becomes much more strained.
* Ariel in ''WesternAnimation/TheLittleMermaid1989'' is like this to Flounder and is always looking out for him when she takes him on her adventures. Not to mention, she can even be playful with him. Since Ariel only had sisters, Flounder acts as her surrogate little brother.
* Wendy in ''WesternAnimation/PeterPan''. The title character takes her with him to Neverland specifically to be the TeamMom for the Lost Boys.
* In ''WesternAnimation/RalphBreaksTheInternet'', the Disney Princesses become these for Vanellope, encouraging their young friend to pursue her dream. Shank also becomes something of a big sister/motherly figure to Vanellope, reassuring her that she and Ralph don't have to have the same dreams.
* In ''WesternAnimation/TurningRed'', Priya is the most levelheaded of Mei's friend group and is implied to be the oldest due to her being casually prepared for puberty.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Live-Action]]
* Kitai's big sis, Ranger Senshi in ''Film/AfterEarth''.
* ''Film/{{Arachnophobia}}'': Becky Beechwood is about eight years older than her sister Bunny, but is still willing to drop her off or pick her friends up for sleepovers and lets Shelly and Bunny sleep in her room when she thinks that they're scared of the rumored killer spiders.
* ''Film/AuRevoirLesEnfants'': Julien's brother is usually patient and cordial toward him and shares some of his contraband with him.
* Bee in ''Film/TheBabysitter2017'' [[AffablyEvil acts this way]] towards Cole, the adolescent boy she's babysitting, with the two of them dancing, breaking into his parents' liquor cabinet, and chatting about CultClassic movies. It's all so that she can get close to him, as she needs the "blood of the innocent" for a [[HollywoodSatanism Satanic ritual]]. [[spoiler:After defeating Bee, Cole tells her that he feels genuinely betrayed by her for what she and her friends did to him.]]
* ''Film/BadGirls'': It's unclear whether she's the ''eldest'', (Andie [=MacDowell=] was a year older than Madeleine Stowe) but Cody takes this role on for the others. She's the one that takes the lead, and goes MamaBear when any of the girls are in danger.
* ''Film/BonCopBadCop'' had a Cool ''Younger'' Sis for the strait-laced, by-the-book Ontario cop. Naturally, the chain-smoking, rulebreaking, yet oddly charismatic Quebec cop was interested.
* Tim's brother-in-law Sidney in the ''Film/ConfessionsOfA'' series, who pulls strings to get Tim a job and often works alongside him.
* Rodrick can be this to Greg when he wants to in the ''Film/DiaryOfAWimpyKid'' films. Best exampified in the second movie where he and Greg go around, throwing fake puke on other people's cars. Subverted in the books where he remains a BigBrotherBully.
* Carla, while Madeline's nurse and old enough to be her mother, has this dynamic with her in the movie adaption of ''Film/EverythingEverything''. She allows Madeline to see Olly despite knowing Pauline would not promote this, leading to her getting fired.
* ''Film/FearClinic'': Based on the HappyFlashback, Caylee doted on her little brother, and was taking him to the diner to have pancakes during the shooting.
* ''Film/FistsOfTheWhiteLotus'': The hero, Man Ting-Hung, became an expert fighter capable of defeating the dreaded White Lotus Chief thanks to training and advice from his older sister, Mei-Hsiao, who is a capable fighter herself and gave him the idea of training with ''paper'' dummies in order to overcome his enemy's ''qi'' powers.
* ''Film/TheHungerGames'': Katniss Everdeen to Prim and Rue, so much so that she offered herself up as Tribute to take her little sister's place in the Games.
* In the film adaptation of ''Film/TheLordOfTheRings'', Éowyn very much took on this role for Merry.
* Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse
** Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow gives off this vibe to Tony Stark (Iron Man), Steve Rogers (Captain America), and Clint Barton (Hawkeye) despite the occasional ShipTease she has with them. [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] in ''Film/AvengersAgeOfUltron'' when Cap drops his shield during a car chase and she picks it up, while complaining like a bossy older sister.
--->'''Black Widow:''' I'm always picking up after you boys.
*** Natasha's [[Film/BlackWidow2021 solo movie]] establishes that she was this to her adoptive younger sister Yelena Belova. Flashbacks to their childhood show them happily playing together and when they're reunited as adults they quickly fall back into their old patterns of behaviour.
** Thor was shown to have had this dynamic with Loki when they were kids, as while Loki still envied him, they were very much playmates and loved each other. He becomes this to Loki again when he pulls out a true HeelFaceTurn at near the end of ''Film/ThorRagnarok''.
** Despite frequently fighting and squabbling with her, Gamora manages to be this to Nebula, especially towards the end of ''Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol2'' where she saves her sister from the burning wreck of ship and even hugs Nebula before she leaves. Also, despite despising Gamora for unintentionally causing most of her body to be replaced with [[{{Cyborg}} cybernetics]] (as their adoptive father Thanos would do it every time she lost to Gamora), she states that compared to rest of her siblings (the Black Order), she hated Gamora "the least". [[spoiler:And in ''Film/AvengersInfinityWar'', we can understand why Nebula thinks so]].
*** [[spoiler:Also in ''[[Film/AvengersInfinityWar Infinity War]]'', Gamora reveals the location of the Soul Stone to Thanos as she couldn't stand to see him torture Nebula in exchange. Nebula for once returns the favor by plowing into her father during the FinalBattle, demanding to know what he did with her sister and is horrfied to discover he murdered her to get the Soul Stone]].
*** Gamora is also like this to Rocket Racoon and Mantis.
** Nakia to Shuri in ''Film/{{Black Panther|2018}}'', to point where the latter [[ShipperOnDeck hopes]] she'll be with her brother T'challa so she'll be part of the family. Okoye is this to T'challa, Nakia, and Shuri, acting as personal bodyguard to the Golden Tribe.
* ''Film/{{Rosaline}}'': Lampshaded by Rosaline, who writes that she aims to be the older, more accomplished, worldlier older sister figure to Juliet. The montage that accompanies this shows that Juliet is more charming and more accomplished, but Rosaline is still worldlier.
* ''Film/TheSmurfs'' sees the Smurfs' human ally, Grace Winslow, essentially taking on this role for Smurfette, as the only other female influence Smurfette has met; in the sequel, Smurfette acquires a new 'sister' in the form of Gargamel's new creation, Vexy, with Grace musing that the relationship means that Vexy is her sister as well, prompting Vexy to wonder if this is what 'happy' feels like.
* Sweet Pea from ''Film/SuckerPunch'', who looks out for and protects her sister Rocket, as well as the rest of the group. "I'm only doing this because you'd all get killed without me."
* Although it's implied that he also is attracted to her, this is the main dynamic between the 15-year-old protagonist Jamie and the 24-year-old artist Abbie who boards in his mother's house in ''Film/TwentiethCenturyWomen.'' He finds her fascinating and essentially does anything she suggests he do, whether that be start reading feminist texts or try to perform an [[spoiler: unsuccessful]] RelationshipUpgrade with his ChildhoodFriend Julie. Notably early in the movie Jamie's mother Dorothea asks both Abbie and Julie to be in his life in ways he wouldn't allow her to be, and Abbie takes this to be a sort of mentor figure who is willing to buy him beer and "teach him how to verbally seduce women", as she puts it.
** Julie herself, despite the fact that she is 2 years older than Jamie and views their relationship as being LikeBrotherAndSister, is an aversion of this trope as they seem to view each other as being essentially on the same level, maturity wise.
* ''Film/UnderTheBed'': Neal acts this way toward Paulie. It helps that they've both been stalked by the monster living under Neal's bed.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Literature]]
%%* Nellie from ''Literature/The39Clues''.
* ''Literature/TheAliceNetwork'': Charlie tells us that Rose, her cousin, was ''like'' an amazing older sister to her. She ignored their age difference, played with her, confided in her, taught her how to do things, and was generally ''super cool.''
%%* ''Literature/TheBabySittersClub'':
%%** Kristy, Dawn, Mallory and Jessi to all their siblings.
%%** Janine is slowly revealed to be this, though Claudia initially doesn't see her this way.
%%* Jacyl acts as one to TheHero, Lyra, in ''Literature/BlackDogs''.
* Eldest Whistler in ''Literature/ABrothersPrice''. She also doubles as an [[AloofBigBrother Aloof Big Sister]]. She leads, the others follow.
* ''Literature/ACertainMagicalIndex'':
** Touma apparently has a fetish for Cool Big Sis types, though he tries to keep it quiet. Kaori is the only one in his UnwantedHarem who would fit the type, and even that's a little bit of a stretch (she's the Cool Big Sis to some of his haremettes, but not to Touma).
** Fukiyose Seiri is good at depicting this image. She's also hijacked the role of ClassRepresentative on a number of occasions.
** Shizuri Mugino acts as one to the other members of Team ITEM, but she's also AxCrazy and wouldn't think twice about killing them before her HeelFaceTurn.
* Attractive and intelligent Melodía of ''Literature/TheDinosaurLords'' tries to be this for her younger sister Monserrat, as their father rarely notices they exist.
* Literature/DyingEmbers: Amadahy Love has raised her brothers and cousin for the past seven years.
* ''Literature/EvaLuna'' gives us the rare UsefulNotes/{{transgender}} version with Melecio, who is this in her InterGenerationalFriendship with Eva. [[spoiler:As Mimi, she keeps playing the trope towards Eva and takes it up a notch.]]
* Subverted in the Creator/MaeveBinchy novel ''Literature/EveningClass'', when a young girl assumes her older sister Fran is this, citing the numerous things Fran has done for her since childhood -- buying her school clothes, helping her with her homework, giving her "TheTalk", taking her on day trips to the city, arranging Italian lessons, etc. She outright says, "I just thought she was a marvelous big sister" when talking with her father--who she's just met for the first time because she's just learned that Fran is actually her ''mother''.
* Melissa Mao from ''Literature/FullMetalPanic''. She mentions the trope almost by name when she confronts Sousuke about [[HeroicBSOD spacing out in the middle of a mission]]. Not to mention that Kurz calls her "Sis."
* ''Literature/HarryPotter:''
** There are various conflicts among the younger Weasleys, but all of them seem to look up to the two eldest brothers, [[AdventurerArchaeologist Bill]] and [[FluffyTamer Charlie]]. Ginny, in particular, is very close to Bill.
** [[CuteClumsyGirl Tonks]] is this to Ginny and Hermione. She uses her VoluntaryShapeshifting powers to amuse them, and at one point takes a redheaded form that Harry even thinks makes her look like she could be Ginny's sister. Hermione admires her for being smart enough to become an Auror, and Ginny goes so far as [[ShipperOnDeck shipping]] her with Bill (in part because she doesn't like his actual fiancée, [[LovableAlphaBitch Fleur]]).
** In the DistantEpilogue, [[spoiler:Teddy Lupin is this for the Potter kids. Bonus points for being the son of the above-mentioned Tonks]].
* [[CharlesAtlasSuperpower Raven]] becomes more and more of this as the ''Literature/HIVESeries'' goes on, particularly to Otto and Wing, [[spoiler:who are both orphaned early on.]]
* Aoi Kimi of ''Literature/HorizonInTheMiddleOfNowhere''. As the protagonist's slightly older sister, she's about the same age as most of the rest of the main cast, but definitely plays TeamMom. She's also a flamboyant pervert.
* In ''Literature/TheHost2008'' Melanie and, by extension, Wanda serve as this for Jamie. They are a bit overprotective but, given the environment, it's understandable.
* Katniss Everdeen, cool enough to take her little sister [[TheCutie Prim's]] place in ''Literature/TheHungerGames''.
** [[spoiler: Oh when she learns that the RebelLeader is responsible for Prim'a death, she chooses killing her ''over killing the BigBad'' that's how much Katniss loves her sister]].
* ''Literature/IfHerFlagBreaks'': Kikuno is Souta's self-declared big sister, so she does sisterly things for him, such as making him lunches, giving him advice, and being a little too affectionate sometimes. She also acts like a big sister figure to the rest of the cast.
* ''Literature/InCryptid'': CuteGhostGirl Mary Dunlavy shifts from babysitter to more of a sisterly role as Alice grows up, and repeats this with Alice's children and grandchildren.
* The ''Literature/InDeath'' series. Peabody thinks of Dallas this way, while Dallas is impressed by Mira's grace, style and poise, to the point of her mental descriptions reaching near girl-crush levels.
* In ''Literature/IveBeenKillingSlimesFor300YearsAndMaxedOutMyLevel'', Azusa refers to Beelzebub as this, when thinking about what traditional family roles members of her FamilyOfChoice fit into. This is because Beelzebub is the oldest in the family group and whenever Azusa and the others need help Beelzebub is the one they turn to. It's to the point that when [[MaouTheDemonKing Pecora]] suggests Azusa to be this to her, Azusa muses that Beelzebub would have been a better choice for that role than she is, something Pecora agrees with and is miffed that Beelzebub refuses to comply with the idea of acting domineering towards her king, forcing Pecora to look elsewhere.
%%* Lucy Pennykettle from ''Literature/TheLastDragonChronicles'', [[spoiler:to Joseph Henry.]] Although they rarely get along, Zanna comes through as this for Lucy in times of trouble.
* Meg is this to all her younger sisters in ''Literature/LittleWomen'', especially Jo and Amy, and Jo is also this to Beth.
* May was this to Laurel in ''Literature/LoveLettersToTheDead'', to the point where Laurel is incapable of seeing May as anything less than perfect following her death. This is to mask the fact that Laurel is fighting some serious unresolved feelings of anger towards May for something that happened before she died.
%%* Anehara Misa in ''Literature/ModernMagicMadeSimple''.
* ''Literature/MyNextLifeAsAVillainessAllRoutesLeadToDoom'': Catarina attempts to be this to her adoptive brother Keith, partly because she wants a better ending[[note]]In the original ''Fortune Lover'' otome game, Catarina's abusive behavior lead to Keith either killing her with magic or forcing her into exile[[/note]] and partly because she always wanted a little brother [[{{Reincarnation}} in her original life]]. While she qualifies during their childhood, by the time they're teenagers the level-headed and responsible Keith has become her CloudcuckoolandersMinder... and [[BigBrotherAttraction he's nursing an attraction to her]].
* ''Literature/NoryRyansSong'': Maggie is kind, understanding, and the eldest of Nory's two sisters, being the only one of them to be an adult while Celia is fifteen and Nory is twelve. Nory admires her greatly and her absence after leaving for America is keenly felt, with Nory often wondering what Maggie would do in certain tough situations.
* ''Literature/OldKingdom'':
** At the end of "Lirael" [[spoiler: Lirael learns that her father was the former Abhorsen, making the Queen and current Abhorsen Sabriel her sister. Lirael is overawed by this and is very nervous about how the "legendary Sabriel" will feel about learning she has half-sister the same age as her daughter. Heartwarmingly, Sabriel accepts her warmly. Lirael continues to feel somewhat intimidated by Sabriel due to what she knows of her past and abilities.]]
** Everyone in the Old Kingdom seems to view Ellimere this way, to Sameth's profound annoyance.
* In ''Literature/OneOfUsIsLying'', Ashton is this for Addy. Spots right away that Jake, while outwardly perfect, is a control freak. Moves back home to support Addy when she's a murder suspect, helps her break out of her shell after [[spoiler: Jake dumps her, and helps her talk through her feelings about it]]. Joins in with the investigation, passes vital information along to Eli [[spoiler: when he's representing Nate and finally invites Addy to come live with her]]. In the sequel, [[spoiler: she and Eli get married]].
** In the sequel, Knox has ''five'' older sisters. The one we meet, Keirsten, clearly thinks the world of her little brother.
* Wendy Darling in ''Literature/PeterPan'', a devoted older sister to Michael and John who is recruited by Peter to be TeamMom to the Lost Boys.
* ''Literature/PrideAndPrejudice'': Part of what gets Elizabeth to change her opinion of Mr. Darcy is realizing he's this to his sister Georgiana, [[PromotionToParent whom he raised after their parents died]]. Even when he's still in {{Jerkass}} mode, he speaks very fondly of her, and when she gets to Pemberley, Elizabeth finds out that he had an entire music room set up for her.
* In ''Literature/ProphecyOfTheSisters'', Lia is this for her disabled younger brother Henry. She remembers one incident from her childhood when she tried, albeit without success, to retrieve a toy boat he had lost in a river. When their father dies, making them full orphans, it is clear that Lia now has, a sorta-PromotionToParent, as the only adult in the house is their aunt, Virginia.
* ''Literature/{{Raybearer}}'': Princess Min Ja of Songland acts like a cool older sister to Woo In.
* ''Literature/RebuildWorld'':
** Shizuka takes the role of a positive mentor figure in Akira's life. Unlike Alpha, who is manipulating him for her ends, Shizuka genuinely wishes the best for Akira, frets over him when she hears that he's done something dangerous, and does her best to make sure he's properly equipped to survive in the wastelands. Her opinion of him only grows after learning that he saved her friends Sara and Elena. There is some significant overlap with the TeamMom role she plays for the three.
** The BrainsAndBrawn HeterosexualLifePartners Elena and Sara are a more straightforward match for the trope, each being like a BigSisterMentor but also teasing Akira extensively. Unlike Shizuka, Akira sees the two as his respected seniors he's trying to catch up to, a line of thinking he holds onto even after exceeding them in hunter rank.
** A more moderate dynamic develops between the Sheryl and the older Carol. Sheryl sees Carol like someone intimidating who she has to catch up to, despite a bad first impression. Carol clearly likes Sheryl, has fun teasing her, and helps her, realizing how important she is for Akira, although Akira repeatedly assigning Carol to protect Sheryl is somewhat disheartening for both.
* ''Literature/ScrappedPrincess'': While Pacifica looks to both her adopted siblings for protection, Racquel is the one she turns to when needs someone to confide in. At one point, she even tells Racquel that she had hoped to be as good a big sister to Cz[[note]]who was revealed to be a Peacemaker and reverted to her true form against her will, by Styer[[/note]] as Racquel was to her and Shannon, who shares Pacifica's sentiment. Near the end, [[ManlyTears when he finally breaks down in tears]][[note]]after returning from the final battle with the Peacemakers, with Pacifica [[BackFromTheDead having come back to life]][[/note]], Racquel provides him with a shoulder to cry on.
* ''Literature/TheSecretGarden'': Martha, to Mary as well as literally for Dickon.
* Violet Baudelaire from ''Literature/ASeriesOfUnfortunateEvents'' is one to her younger siblings, Klaus and Sunny. She tends to [[PromotionToParent take on the "parent" role]] the most, and always tries to get them through tough situations.
* Two subversions in ''Literature/{{Slayers}}''; While Lina is the first to admit that her older sister Luna is "really cool" she's also terrified of her [[NoodleIncident due to some unfortunate events during their childhood ]] ([[SubvertedTrope not that Lina didn't deserve it]]). (Lina is so scared of Luna that near the end of Slayer's Try she actually says (entirely without irony) that she has to save the universe because otherwise "my big sister is gonna kill me.") Amelia's older sister Gracia [[spoiler:AKA [[GoldfishPoopGang Naga the White Serpent]]]] did teach her some magic (per WordOfGod) but she also ran away after witnessing the horrifically bloody assassination of their mother. Amelia hasn't met her since, and (in the novels at least) misses her terribly.
* ''Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire'': Sixteen-year-old Margaery Tyrell is this for Tommen Baratheon. They are married for political reasons, but since Tommen is ''eight'' he is far too young to think of her as a romantic partner. However, they [[PerfectlyArrangedMarriage get along well]]: he quickly learns to love her like a big sister and even stands up for her when his mother [[EvilMatriarch Queen Cersei]] threatens her.
** 10-year-old Myrcella Baratheon was Tommen's loving big sister before she was shipped off to Dorne for her own ArrangedMarriage. In a way, this makes Margaery a ReplacementGoldfish.
** Sansa Stark, while [[spoiler:masquerading as Alayne Stone]], meets ''two'' cool older girls who play this role for her: tomboyish PluckyGirl Mya Stone (who's the bastard daughter of her father's friend Robert Baratheon) and world-wise, lively Myranda Royce.
** As a little girl, Lysa Tully used to adore her older sister Catelyn. Key words ''[[TheGloriousWarOfSisterlyRivalry used to]]''.
** Meera Reed is a cool big sister to her brother Jojen and to Bran Stark (who also has a boyish crush on her).
* ''Literature/TeenPowerInc'': Tom enjoys entertaining his younger half-brothers and is cool with listening to their stories about their days. He can also tell when they need help with a problem, even when their parents fail to notice something is wrong.
* [[CombatMedic Yellowfang]] is this towards Cloudpelt in ''Literature/WarriorCats'': ''Yellowfang's Secret''.
* ''Literature/WhaleTalk:'' Before his tragic death, Chris's older half-brother Brian treated him well and kept people from bullying him. This is especially noticeable, given that the two of them were raised in separate homes after Brian's dad got full custody of him after leaving Chris's mom.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Live-Action TV]]
* ''Series/AgentsOfSHIELD'': Almost immediately after her reveal [[OneManArmy as one of]] [[ActionGirl the good guys]] and saving her, Simmons [[TheKnightsWhoSaySquee started gushing over]] Bobbi Morse.
* ''Series/{{Angel}}'': In a [[TookALevelInKindness far cry]] from her AlphaBitch days, Cordiela becomes a cool big sis to Wesley, Gunn and especially Fred. Cordy is so good at looking after the gang she's essentially TeamMom and her absence is literally when everything goes wrong in Season 3.
** Fred herself tries to act as one to Connor. It works briefly... when he's in a good mood and she's not torturing him for hurting Angel.
* ''Series/{{Arrow}}'': Laurel and Sara are very close, once they repair their relationship anyway, with Laurel being very protective and nurturing towards Sara.
** While they aren't actually related, Laurel has this relationship with Thea, too.
* ''Series/AustinAndAlly'': Ally Dawson shows signs of being this to [[CheerfulChild Nelson]], despite being her student. She also acts like this to [[SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute Lily]] later on.
* In the reimagined ''Series/{{Battlestar Galactica|2003}}'', Kara Thrace is said to have filled this role for Sharon Valerii.
* ''Series/BetterThings'': While Max is a BigSisterBully to Frankie, she’s nothing but sweet to Duke.
* Penny on ''Series/TheBigBangTheory'' to pretty much everyone, but especially her self declared "bestie" Amy.
* Paige and Frankie end up becoming one to Zane and Rodney starting in the third season of ''Series/{{Bizaardvark}}'' despite not being related blood-wise. It does help the latter two are fans of the former two's work.
* In the KoreanSeries ''Series/BoysBeforeFlowers'', Joon Hee is the white Ferrari-driving older sister of Jun Pyo.
%%* ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'':
%%** Buffy originally filled this role for Dawn. However, after dying, coming back and basically abandoning her, it stopped applying for a bit. It was repaired in Season 7.
%%** Tara and Willow are somewhere between Cool Big Sis and has two moms towards Dawn.
%%** Faith, the AxCrazy man raping ShadowArchetype, became this when TheBusCameBack in season seven, primarily because she was took the potentials out to let off steam and was seen as more reasonable than Buffy.
* ''{{Series/Chuck}}'':
** Ellie is the ultimate Cool Big Sis. She practically raised her younger brother Chuck by herself after their parents left their lives, is willing to lend an understanding ear to his problems, and is just generally an awesome person.
** In the flashback, we see Morgan defending Chuck, so Chuck considers him to be his Cool Big Bro, and Awesome's pretty cool too.
* ''Series/{{Firefly}}'' has urbane, sophisticated [[HookerWithAHeartOfGold Inara]] frequently playing the more experienced Cool Big Sis to [[WrenchWench Kaylee]] -- complete with hair-brushing sessions and advice on boys.
* Eun Bi from the KoreanDrama ''Series/FlowerBoyRamyunShop'' is this to Ba Wool, who admires her for being an ex-gang leader and for being the daughter of somebody he respects as well.
* ''Series/TheFosters'': [[BigSisterInstinct Callie]] towards her little brother Jude. She eventually seems to develop into this for her foster sister Mariana as well.
* ''Series/FullHouse'' had DJ Tanner (the oldest) being one of the Cool Big Sis to Stephanie (the middle child) and Michelle (the youngest) when [[TeamMom Pamela Tanner]] died of a car crash. It's like having 3 Cool Big Sis in a family-friendly sitcom instead of 1 or 2.
** In ''Series/FullerHouse'', the daughter of DJ's best friend Kimmy, Ramona, serves as one to DJ's two younger boys, Max and Tommy, even though none of them are related.
* ''Series/GameOfThrones'':
** Shae to Sansa, for a while, anyway.
** Robb Stark and Jon Snow are male versions to their younger siblings, who adore them, especially Jon to Arya when he gives her Needle, her first sword.
** Jaime is a male version of this to Tyrion, especially because he is the only family member who respects Tyrion at all -- he's even seen bringing Tyrion some extra prostitutes before the feast in the first episode!
** Margaery accepts her brother Loras' sexuality, cheers for him in tourneys, and comforts him after Renly's death. She also maintains this role with Sansa even after her ulterior motive is removed and uses it to influence Tommen, though given his AgeLift she at least experiments with appealing to his emerging sexuality.
** When Osha asks Meera if she's ashamed by the fact her brother is a NonActionGuy, she just laughs at the question, stating that there is no shame in wanting to protect someone. Not only that, but she obviously adores her little brother. This also crosses with shades of BigSisterInstinct.
* The girl of ''Series/GirlMeetsWorld'', Riley Matthews, is this to her little brother Auggie, esp. when they are in the same episode. The episode "Girl Meets Brother" is a showcase of this. This also continues in RealLife too for Riley's actress Creator/RowanBlanchard being this to Auggie's actor Creator/AugustMaturo and his little brother Ocean.
* Erica is this to Barry and Adam in ''Series/TheGoldbergs.''
* ''Series/GossipGirl'': Serena is very protective of her brother Eric and Jenny, her boyfriend's younger sister.
* Referenced almost by name in C-drama ''The Holy Pearl'' between [[LadyOfWar Mu Lian]] and [[RebelliousPrincess Yu Die]].
* In ''Series/HowIMetYourMother'', Robin tries to be this to her younger sister Katie. She is somewhat ''is'', just not in the way she is trying to be.
* ''Franchise/KamenRider''
** ''Series/KamenRiderDenO'' has two examples for Ryotaro: Hana, who acts as one to him, being concerned with his condition while making sure none of the Taros do anything crazy involving him, [[spoiler:even after she later gets de-aged and is eventually revealed to be his niece from the future]], and Airi, who is his literal older sister, being the one to raise him after their parents' deaths and acting sweet and gentle to him (except for most of episode 30), even welcoming Ryutaros with open arms once the two eventually meet.
** ''Series/KamenRiderKiva'': Megumi Aso to Wataru, being the one who helps him realize his "allergies" were all in his head and overall being very supportive of him, even being a ShipperOnDeck between him and Mio. Megumi also has an actual younger brother named Mitsuhide, who she showed to him about how much she desired to be a warrior to continue in their mother's footsteps.
** ''Series/KamenRiderDouble'': [[spoiler:Wakana Sonozaki]] to Philip. [[spoiler:Best illustrated in a flashback where younger Phillip convinced Wakana not to retaliate back because he believed her as his nice older sister.]]
** ''Series/KamenRiderGhost'': Akari Tsukimura to Takeru, especially since they and the Fukami siblings were all childhood friends, firmly caring about him wanting for him to come back to life with the Eyecons the most.
* ''Series/LivAndMaddie'' has Maddie be this to her brother Parker. Liv tries her best to do so to Parker in "Sleep-A-Rooney" but has trouble being one (due to her being away from him since he was 6) and later succeeds.
* ''Series/OnceUponATime'': Red seems to have developed into this for Henry, which makes sense she's his grandmother's [[HeterosexualLifePartners best friend]].
* Mako's this in ''Series/SamuraiSentaiShinkenger'', much to Ryuunosuke's dismay. Additionally, Kotoha's older sister (who was meant to be Shinken Yellow [[SoapOperaDisease before getting sick]]).
** This dynamic is repeated in ''Series/PowerRangersSamurai'', with Mia (Pink Ranger), and Emily's sister, Serena (original Yellow Ranger).
* ''Series/{{Sherlock}}'': Sherlock seemed to have developed this for Mary and, since she understands the fact that [[NightMareFetishist he's different]], rather than freaked out by it. Also, despite the fact she shot him, she's [[UndyingLoyalty about as loyal to John as Sherlock is, since they're both willing to do anything for him. Anything, really.]] And Sherlock [[ShipperOnDeck seems to be a Mary/John shipper.]]
** Sherlock and Molly seem to think John's pretty cool, and consider him like a big brother, and, after Molly helped Sherlock fake his death, Sherlock consider her to be a cool little sis. And John considers Molly to be a cool little sis, and Sherlock to be a cool little brother, or at least a cool friend.
* In ''Series/TheSopranos'' Carmela is angry with Meadow for covering up for little brother Anthony getting a downtown hotel room and getting drunk with his friends; Tony responds, based on his own childhood, that that's what big sisters should do.
* ''Series/StarTrekVoyager'': [[TagalongKid Naomi Wildman]] sees Seven of Nine this way, which helps Seven in rediscovering her humanity after being liberated from the Borg.
* Played with in regards to Nancy in ''Series/StrangerThings'' while she did apparently dress up as elf during a Dungeons and Dragons campaign for her little brother Mike and his friends, Nancy due to peer pressure and growing more shallow in order to impress the cool kids treats the younger boys like a bad smell at the start of show. [[spoiler: It's not until the death of her friend Barbra and facing the horrors along side Will's big brother Jonathan that Nancy truly becomes a cool big sis to Mike and the other boys. In the finale of series 2 where after seeing Dustin crying at prom because he got rejected to dance and mocked by popular girls, Nancy herself takes Dustin out to the dance floor (to the shock of the mean girls), she even claims to liking him the most out of her brother's friends and gives Dustin some advice about girls. This is [[TookALevelInKindness a far cry]] from the girl who slammed the door in Dustin's face when he offered pizza]].
* ''Series/TheTwilightZone1985'': In "Grace Note", Rosemarie Miletti is the eldest of five children and enjoys strong relationships with all of her siblings, especially Mary who is [[LittlestCancerPatient dying of leukemia]].
* In ''Series/TheVampireDiaries'', Elena is one to Jeremy.
** Jenna is to her niece and nephew.
* In flashbacks on ''Series/TheWestWing'', a college age Jed Bartlet meets a young Mrs. Landingham, who says he needs a "big sister" to help guide him. She will later become his loyal but SassySecretary when he becomes President of the United States.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Theater]]
* Angelica Schuyler from ''{{Theatre/Hamilton}}'' is this in spades. While she instantly falls in love with Alexander Hamilton, she quickly deduces her sister Eliza is also head over heels for him, and so sacrifices her happiness to get the two set up. When Alexander cheats on Eliza, she rushes all the way from London (Damn!) to both comfort her sister, and give Alexander TheReasonYouSuckSpeech:
-->'''Angelica:''' I love my sister more than anything in this life / I will choose her happiness over mine ''every time!''

[[folder:Music]]
* Music/MadelineHarperGuest takes on this role in "Little Sister".
* Music/SaintMotel's song "Sisters" is about "[giving] it up for sisters and all the things they do; not always so wonderful, but we'd be lost without [them]". Between the choruses, the singer fondly reminisces on various antics they had with their (implicitly older) sister, like being introduced to Main/RockAndRoll through her, or being allowed to tag along to a club with them and having to drive her back (despite not having an actual driver's education).
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Visual Novels]]
* Esperia seems to have this role among the spirits in ''VisualNovel/AseliaTheEternalTheSpiritOfEternitySword''. Halion really tries, but she's a bit too slow and strange to pull it off.
* Kyou Fujibayashi from ''VisualNovel/{{Clannad}}'' to her twin sister Ryou.
* Physically older? Check. More mature than everyone else, protagonist included? Check. An actual leader for TheSquad? Check. Huge "tracts of land"? Check. Meet Forte Stollen from ''VideoGame/GalaxyAngel''.
* Amane in ''VisualNovel/TheFruitOfGrisaia'' was the first cool big sis in the story after more or less adopting Makina and attempting to keep some kind of normal human reasoning in operation for the girl. In ''VisualNovel/TheEdenOfGrisaia'' we get another with the Thanatos computer system, which Makina and Sachi instantly decide is their older sister, much to its confusion. It copes with that better than being called Tanako by Michiru, though.
* The first ''VideoGame/GalaxyAngel'' trilogy has Forte Stollen, the eldest member and leader of the Moon Angel Wing who acts as a big sister figure and mentor to the rest. [[SixthRanger Chitose]] even goes as far as calling her "OneeSama" on her route, which causes her a large amount of consternation. In ''VideoGame/GalaxyAngelII'', Milfeulle fills this role towards her biological younger sister, Apricot, [[BigSisterWorship who admires and wishes to emulate her]].
* Akira Satou from ''VisualNovel/KatawaShoujo'', with the bonus of being Lilly's actual older sister.
* Yuna Tomi from ''VisualNovel/KindredSpiritsOnTheRoof'' is one to her ChildhoodFriend Hina, who's a year younger than her. Hina calls her "Yuna-nee," while Yuna thinks of Hina as like a little sister [[spoiler:at least until they start a romantic relationship]].
* Kurugaya from ''VisualNovel/LittleBusters''. She actually encourages the girls from the group to call her "Anego" or "Onee-san".
* ''VisualNovel/MajikoiLoveMeSeriously'' is absolutely full of them, more so as time passes. First there was just mainish heroine Momoyo who basically signed a contract with Yamato to make him her younger brother. Chris also has an older sister figure with Margit, who spoils her but is rather harsh to everyone else. In the Agave route Tatsuko seems to think she's one but... [[TheDitz not so much.]] ''S'' adds a handful more like Benkei and Takae. For the most part, these kinds of girls are most common because they're the protagonist's [[HasAType type.]] He likes older girls and they all seem to want to treat him like their little brother or hang out with him at least if they happen to be the same age but still the right character type.
* Charlotte is a cool big sis for both Angie and Mary Clarissa in ''VisualNovel/ShikkokuNoSharnoth''. However, the short voice over at the beginning of every chapter reveals that when they were children, Mary actually played this role for Charlotte instead.
* Noan starts out bullying Setsuna in ''VisualNovel/ShinyDays'' but as time goes on and Setsuna stops being TheLoad at work, she generally starts treating her nicer and starts offering some practical advice.
* Ichika Sakura is this to her sister Futaba in ''VisualNovel/SisterlyBlissDontLetMomFindOut''. She is always ready to answer Futaba's demands no matter how childish these demands can be. While she loses this aspect for a time because her mother asked her to, she recovers it when she realizes she really loves Futaba and wants her hapiness.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Animation]]
* ''WebAnimation/DSBTInsaniT'': Whitney is towards her younger brother Bill, although their relationship isn't explored as deeply as her's and Dave's.
* ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'':
** Yang Xiao Long is this to her younger half-sister Ruby Rose. She actually used to read bedtime stories to her every night when they were younger. Slightly tragic example considering has out of circumstantial necessity: Yang's mother [[ParentalAbandonment abandoned her father when she was a baby]]. Her father ended up marrying Ruby's mom, a mutual long-time friend, but then ''she'' [[MissingMom disappeared while on a mission]] when Yang and Ruby were very young. Yang was pretty much forced to [[ParentalSubstitute pick up the mantle]] to a degree for her younger half-sister. Yang would later go on to become a bit of TeamMom for the group, managing ([[AngerBornOfWorry in her own special way]]) to talk Blake out of her HeroicRROD.
** [[DefrostingIceQueen Weiss Schnee]] has her own older sister, Winter, who serves as a {{foil}} for Yang, being more of an AloofBigSister who Weiss holds in great esteem. Aloofness aside, Winter clearly loves Weiss deeply.
* Both versions of ''WebAnimation/TrueTail'' have Melody Briar being one to Caleb. The first version had Melody treat Caleb as a close friend and giving off implied intentions of acting as a [[BigSisterMentor secondary mentor]] to him (since Caleb in that version was technically a squire being trained by the bear knight Brutus). The second version made the trope more official by having Caleb be HappilyAdopted by Melody's family and one of Melody's reasons for training to become a bard being so she can sing about her adopted younger brother's heroic exploits.

[[folder:Webcomics]]
* ''Webcomic/ElGoonishShive'' has Diane, [[LovableAlphaBitch the Queen Bee of Moperville South]] who is somewhere between this and OneeSama (EGS had thick anime roots before these girls) for Rhoda -- unusual in that they are in the same class, but Diane is about a head taller and more mature, so she comes across [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2008-02-01 as senior]] and [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-12-27 acts]] very [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2011-11-24 protectively]] toward "her puppy" who is tiny and [[ShrinkingViolet feels even smaller]].
* Da-Jeong from ''Webcomic/TheFriendlyWinter'' is a few years older than Min-Seong. She acts like a cool, older sister figure to Min-Seong, though due to a thyroid condition she's ''way'' [[HugeGuyTinyGirl smaller than him]]. It's suggested they might literally become siblings if [[RomancingTheWidow their parents hook up]].
* Amethyst Lashiec from ''Webcomic/HeartCore'' is like this, both to her actual younger sister Sukina, and to her sidekick Lutz.
* ''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}'': [[TeamMom Porrim]] is this to Kanaya. Kanaya is initially intimidated by her, and hesitant to talk to her. When they finally do meet, you hear the tail end of their conversation, where Porrim has taught her more about her biology and how to control her powers, and telling Kanaya she's proud of her for what she's accomplished as well as wishing her luck on her quest.
** Kanaya herself tries to be this, but everyone besides Karkat finds her more meddlesome than helpful.
* ''Webcomic/MagickChicks'': As the [[LovableAlphaBitch 'Big Girl on Campus']], Faith is greatly admired by the student body at [[AllGirlSchool Artemis Academy]] for [[StudentCouncilPresident her leadership ability]], and because they know [[http://www.magickchicks.com/strips-mc/only_playing she'll]] [[http://www.magickchicks.com/strips-mc/she_looks_out_for_us protect them.]]
* ''Webcomic/{{Misfile}}'': Once she lightens up after [[spoiler:Rumisiel exorcises her dead older sister's vengeful spirit]], "Kamikaze" Kate becomes one of these, ''insisting'' on making Ash her "little sister" (even though Ash is still terrified of her). Since Ash is an involuntary GenderBender who is absolutely horrified at the thought of remaining ''anybody's'' sister this works more as a deconstruction than anything else.
* ''Webcomic/NeverSatisfied'' has January, who roughhouses with her younger brothers, and Lucy, who acts in this capacity to the beggar kids they get food for.
* Elan from ''Webcomic/TheOrderOfTheStick'' admires Roy in this way. When he's reunited with his father in the fifth arc, he wonders [[ItMakesSenseInContext if his parents will adopt Roy as his older brother when they remarry.]]
* Dora of ''Webcomic/QuestionableContent'' had this sort of relationship with Faye and Marten, until she hooked up with the latter.
** Since Dora ''is'' a few years older than either, [[DeadpanSnarker Faye]] made a point of humming "MrsRobinson" after the hook-up.
** Faye is this towards Sam, teaching her to weld and make mixed drinks.
* ''[[Webcomic/PenAndInk Pen & Ink]]'': Penny Ewart ("Pen") is nothing but loving, playful and supportive toward her little sister Inkara ("Ink"), although there are moments when the latter can get on her nerves.
* In ''Webcomic/{{Rhapsodies}}'' Tara, [[http://rhapsodies.wpmorse.com/comic/10222013/ the older Fitzpatrick sister]], used to get off on this quite a bit… along with being [[http://rhapsodies.wpmorse.com/comic/cool-big-sis/ a bad influence.]]
* Nique to Criminy in ''Webcomic/{{Sinfest}}'', though its more along the lines of Nique considering him to be like a [[BigSisterInstinct little brother]]. She can be very protective of him, something Fuchsia found out early in her romance arc.
%% * Rhea of ''Webcomic/SlightlyDamned'' is this way to both Buwaro and Kieri.
* During the "Phoenix Rising" arc of ''Webcomic/SluggyFreelance'', Oasis takes on this role to Katie. Since Oasis is a semi-psychotic assassin/vigilante with an AllCrimesAreEqual attitude, this ''really'' freaks out Katie's mom.
* {{Subverted|Trope}} in ''Webcomic/StickyDillyBuns''. At first glance, Amber might seem to have most of the qualifications to play the part in relation to her actual younger sister Ruby. But Ruby despises her for her [[HookerWithAHeartOfGold past career as a porn star]] (which Ruby discovered in a traumatic fashion), thinks that Amber benefits from ParentalFavoritism, really doesn't want to be living with her, and is generally unwilling to ask or take her advice on anything. Whether Amber can grow into this role as Ruby gains a more nuanced viewpoint remains to be seen.
* Yuri Jahad from ''Webcomic/TowerOfGod'', who appears out of curiosity when an Irregular appears, takes a liking to him and gives him a weapon that he really needs. The younger characters, which would theoretically apply to everybody in the main cast since she is 618 years old, but especially Endorsi and Bam, refer to her as noona and unni, the Korean honorifics for elder siblings.
* Eloria Kierobrung from ''Webcomic/WhiteDarkLife'' is, while violent and destructive, very caring for her younger brother Luka ([[JerkWithAHeartOfGold and most children as a whole]]), having [[PromotionToParent practically raised him]] thanks to their father being very aloof to them. [[spoiler:This doesn't mean that she is above almost killing her brother in a blind rage when he was chosen as inheritor of the family name, though [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone she seriously regrets it]]]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Original]]
* ''Podcast/FalloutIsDragons'' has an interesting case of mutual Cool Big Sis with Aurelia, the magically aged up dragon, and Flotsam, the bomb-toting pegasus filly.
* ''Literature/IlivaisX'' has Mille, who's a more HotBlooded variant of this. Unfortunately, she has the impression that one-night stands are the epitome of romance, and to that end her reputation of sleeping around heavily is known more than being kind and compassionate. Her only real friends are people who she ended up having to see and interact often with regardless of what she did with them, and she eventually winds up in a relationship with the resident [[BrokenBird broken]] TokenMiniMoe protagonist instead of the usual archetypes present.
* TT is this to all the other cats in ''WebVideo/{{Kittisaurus}}''. Despite her standoffish nature, she will mentor the younger cats keep them in line. This even extends to newcomer Nana and her two kittens. Nana has become her friend while Toto and Dodo are the only cats allowed to punch her without getting hit in return (at least for now).
** Chuchu became this for Toto and especially Dodo. When Claire moved home, Chuchu sat with Dodo in the carrier, tried to comfort him on arrival and stood by him until she was certain he was alright.
* Rob Walker is this to Creator/DougWalker.
* Having an older female sibling care for you in some way is a popular roleplay scenario in {{ASMR video}}s, including EarCleaning, putting on makeup, and many other themes.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Real Life]]
* "Rent a Sister" is an attempt to apply this trope to the real world issue of {{Hikikomori}}. These women act as a non-relative, but also non-medical, counselor and friend to try to get the {{Hikikomori}} to rejoin the world. The effort can often take years.
