...flock together!

Relationships, particularly romantic ones, tend to thrive when [[MirrorCharacter the people involved are similar]]. People are simply more likely to get along if they share common interests, values, beliefs, and goals. Thus people with similar personalities will often flow together easily, whether romantically or not.

The dynamic of this pair differs widely from OppositesAttract pair. Their personalities can often be interchangeable and both of them can have the same role if they are a part of a group. However, their common obstacle is having a harder time compensating for each other's weaknesses.

[[Administrivia/TropesAreTools Be warned, writers]]: while often TruthInTelevision, this trope can sometimes be [[RealityIsUnrealistic seen]] to create a poorly written {{Love Interest|s}} who just happens to be a GenderFlip of [[ScrewYourself the main character.]]

%%Needs context about their relationship* Manga/TheAncientMagusBride: Both Chise and Elias are, initially, very lonely and have a DarkAndTroubledPast. Chise spent her childhood and early teens being shunned by everyone because of the disasters caused by the supernatural creatures attracted by her sleigh beggy powers. Elias is hated by the fairies and mages (mostly) because he is an "unpure creature", a mixture of human and fairy that became none of them. Both have to learn to interact with people around them and grow as better people.
* Naruko/Anaru and Atsumu/Yukiatsu in ''Anime/AnoHanaTheFlowerWeSawThatDay''. They both blame themselves for Menma's death, have inferiority issues (Anaru, in regards to Menma; Yukiatsu, in regards to Jintan), and are "kindred spirits" in unrequited love. This is why Yukiatsu saw Anaru as a possible backup girlfriend, too.
%%Needs context about their relationship* Isaac and Miria in ''Literature/{{Baccano}}''. Both harmless robbers with a staggering lack of common sense.
* Pops up in a semi-romantic sense (the attraction is one-sided) in ''Manga/BlackButler'': [[spoiler:Dr. Angelina "Madame Red" Durless, furious at prostitutes so casually having abortions when she can't have children herself after a terrible miscarriage, snaps and brutally murders one - and is interrupted by Grell, a shinigami. Grell, however, is a male-to-female transgender woman, who's quite unhappy with having a male body. Both women are redheads, are more interested in killing than is good for them, '''and''' both are extremely frustrated that they can't give birth]]. And that's why we have UsefulNotes/JackTheRipper.
* Inverted with Train and Saya from ''Manga/BlackCat'', who became very similar. Initially, Train, although having a nice nature at heart, repressed much of his feelings and wasn't very expressive other than being angry. However, after spending some time with Saya, he quickly became [[GenkiGirl Genki]] like her, even choosing to go after the same job as her and apply the same principles and morals she had. Near the end, Train becomes so much like Saya to the point where [[BigBad Creed]] actually sees a ghostly image of Saya juxtaposed on top of Train. Although their relationship might have possibly evolved into a romantic one, it didn't.
* ''Manga/CardcaptorSakuraClearCard'': Sakura becomes fast friends with [[NewTransferStudent Akiho Shinomoto]], the two having similar-sounding family names and near-identical personalities. In the anime, Meiling lampshades it, calling Akiho a clone of Sakura.
* In ''Literature/TheCaseFilesOfJewelerRichard'', Richard refers to Seigi as a "mirror" to his soul. Sinhalite’s first part is intentionally written to mislead readers on the identity of the mystery man by having [[spoiler:Seigi speak perfect English just like Richard]], expecting readers to guess incorrectly whether the man is Seigi or Richard. While they seem very different at times, the series makes a point to show us that they are very similar people at their core.
* ''Manga/{{Claudine}}'': Claude and Cécilia bonded over their shared love for the written word.
* ''Anime/CodeGeass'':
** [[Characters/CodeGeassLelouchLamperouge Lelouch Lamperouge]]
*** Lelouch and C.C. resemble each other in some ways. They both have Geass powers, they are both angsty, both have problems with their admirers/love interests (Mao and Shirley, respectively, and later Rolo). One of the traits that is the most similar between them is that they are both very lonely individuals, because of their lifes consequences.
*** Lelouch and Kallen are direct mirrors of the other ; Lelouch is a half breed, half royal through his father and half commoner through his mother while Kallen is half breef, half Britannian by her father, half japanese through her mother; Both fight for their sibling's dream; Lelouch for Nunnally's wish of a peaceful world, Kallen for Naoto's wish of a free Japan; Both are siscon/brocon, obsessing over their siblings over anything else; Both have a dead relative they fight to avenge, Lelouch with his mother, Kallen with her brother; They also mirror in a sense where while Lelouch lost his mother and protects his little sister, Kallen lost her big brother and protects her mother, making them some alternative version of the other's story; They als have 3 names, Lelouch Lamperouge, Leloouch vi Britannia and Zero for Lelouch, Kallen Stadfelt, Kallen Kozuki and Q1 for Kallen.
** Kallen and Lelouch's mother also share a great deal of similarities, both were appointed Knight by their liege and served as bodyguards, both were Ace pilot, both were made Queen in title, and both fell in love with their liege. On a funny note it's also worth noting bth had very notable twin assets, making of both the top 2 and 3 of an official breast chart in Code Geass.
** [[Characters/CodeGeassSuzakuKururugi Suzaku Kururugi]] and Euphie. Their goals are the same, they have a very similar sense of humor, and they get serious about the same things. Not to mention a moment in the anime, where they're shown to say the same thing at the same time, only to both burst out chuckling.
* Kou and Aoba from ''Manga/CrossGame'' they have the same hobbies, similar personalities, constantly snark at each other, and have a tendency to independently come up with the same solutions. [[EveryoneCanSeeIt And just about everyone points out how similar they are]].
* Hei and Kirihara of ''Anime/DarkerThanBlack'' are both BigEater [[TheStoic stoics]] with a good heart who care about their teammates. Kirihara and November 11 both share a loyalty to teammates and a hatred of smoking, although November 11 is more... vehement about the latter.
* Lenalee and Allen from ''Manga/DGrayMan'' are pretty similar in personality (especially in the manga). They're both pretty serious (although Lenalee is a bit more so), both have moments of GetAHoldOfYourselfMan (with one slapping some sense into the other, and the other apologizing and thanking them), and they both have very similar goals and views. Also, love relationship-wise, they're both very not aggressive and tend to be extremely shy.
* Laois and Senshi first meet and becomes friends in ''Manga/DeliciousInDungeon'' because both of them have an interest in cooking monsters and are rising connoisseurs of monster delicacies.
* Yamato and Sora from ''Anime/DigimonAdventure''. Both grew up in a single-parent, same-gendered environment; [[Anime/DigimonAdventure02 the sequel]] reveals that Sora's father is never home due to his job. Both have distant relationships with their mothers. Both experience their Crests not glowing, which stems from their respective issues and insecurities. At different points in the narrative, both choose to leave the main group but still protect their friends when they're in danger. Finally, both experience the Dark Cave, which is created from their negative thoughts.
* Takato and Juri from ''Anime/DigimonTamers''. Both are sweet kids, with intense emotions buried deep down (intense anger for Takato, overwhelming despair for Juri). They also seem to [[MindlinkMates share a sort of psychic connection]] that lets them sense and hear each other from great distances. Both react badly to Leomon's death, which unleashes their bottled-up emotions, but by the end of the series, they learn to gain better control of those emotions, which helps lead to the D-Reaper's defeat.
* Vegeta and Bulma from ''Anime/DragonBallZ''. Both are intelligent, proud, at least slightly narcissistic, hot-tempered, extremely stubborn, and [[{{Tsundere}} abrasive on the exterior but caring on the interior]].
* ''Literature/{{Durarara}}'' has Kasuka Heiwajima and Ruri Hijiribe, both famous celebrities with [[RavenHairIvorySkin pale skin and dark hair]], and both have a stoic demeanour that hides a deep dissatisfaction with their own lives. Their relationship started out as a ruse to distract their enemies from targeting Ruri, but they later form [[BecomingTheMask genuine affection for each other]].
* Lily and Terry in the ''VideoGame/FatalFury'' [=OAVs=]. Both are former street children who endured lots to survive in South Town, and they actually bond over it once Terry witnesses Lily's HiddenDepths.
* In ''Manga/FruitsBasket'', Mitchan and Ritsu are both hyperactive, hypersensitive, and wallowing in HeroicSelfDeprecation. Naturally, it's LoveAtFirstSight, just about.
* In ''Literature/FullMetalPanic'', this is one of the reasons [[BigBad Gauron]] implies to be why he's Sousuke's StalkerWithACrush. In many ways, they ''are'' very similar. They're both war veterans who went through very violent, bloody battles and killed many people. They're both experts at piloting AS. They're later shown to both be working for organizations that hire mercenaries (though their organizations are always opposite and always clash with each other, making them [[ArchEnemy destined enemies]]). Of course, the main difference is that Gauron is AxCrazy and Sousuke [[TheStoic doesn't care for murdering people]].
* Rumaty and Kajika from ''Manga/HanasakeruSeishounen''. They're both straightforward, headstrong, and the children of very powerful people. They also tend to inspire loyalty in others. They don't understand the implications of a man and woman visiting each other's rooms in the middle of the night and sleeping in the same bed (to their guardians' chagrins). Multiple characters note that they look and act like each other. [[spoiler:It turns out that they're actually cousins]]. [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking And they're both 14]].
* Although they used their similar backgrounds to create different character traits, Hinagiku and Hayate of ''Manga/HayateTheCombatButler'' have similar pasts to make themselves candidates for this trope.
** Recently, Luca has been added to these two, with a similar past, and adds more than a little of Hayate's looks to seal the deal.
* This appears to be the main appeal of the Greece/Japan pairing in the ''Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers'' fandom (well, aside from the "private lesson"). They both have quiet, subdued personalities and share a love of cats, and they're about the only teased-at couple that doesn't have a {{Tsundere}} or clear-cut OppositesAttract dynamic.
** What makes this interesting is that the two are actually opposites in many ways (they ''do'' come from separate continents and cultures, after all) but are still similar enough at their core (it's amazing how well a lazy, spacey Greek who ReallyGetsAround and a hardworking, focused Asian who HatesBeingTouched will get along when said Greek is a NiceGuy and said Asian a YamatoNadeshiko deep down) that they don't butt heads over their differences like most other couples/pairings from the series do, but instead accept or even appreciate them.
* ''Manga/IdolXIdolStory'': Mimi Nagisa is a washed-up former idol who pushed herself and her unit to excel so much that the others got fed up with her. She forms an intensely emotional bond with Ibuki Nanakusa, a currently active idol who pushes herself and her unit so hard that the others get fed up with her. Together, these two driven young women are determined to make it as an idol duo.
* In ''Manga/JujutsuKaisen'', one of the students from Magic College Kyoto School, Aoi Toudou, ends up becoming a friend of Yuuji after he answers Toudou's question about the type of the girl that he likes with "A tall girl with a big butt". This is due to Toudou's type of girl is "A tall girl with big breasts" because those types of girls aren't boring in Toudou's view.
* ''Manga/KaguyaSamaLoveIsWar'':
** Kaguya's (Ice) persona and Ishigami are a platonic example. It's noted in the former's character profile that the two are very similar (both are isolated from their peers and have a habit of speaking their minds without thinking of the consequences), and the reason why [[MoralityPet she is significantly kinder to him than everyone else]] is because she views him as a kindred spirit and wants to guide him down the right path.
** Subverted with Kaguya and Shirogane, who appear identical at first glance but are actually NotSoSimilar and fell in love ''because'' [[OppositesAttract they were different from each other]].
* Conrad/Yuuri is the pairing if you like this in ''Literature/KyoKaraMaoh''. Among the various guys who have ShipTease with Yuuri, Conrad is the one with the most similar personality, and he tries to take an active interest in the things Yuuri enjoys, like baseball.
* Other than the [[HugeSchoolgirl height]] [[TheNapoleon difference]], Risa Koizumi and Atsushi Otani from ''Manga/LovelyComplex'' are shown to be extremely similar in personality.
* Both Konata and Kagami from ''Manga/LuckyStar'' have remarked about the similarities between the members of their little group of friends. Kagami even notices that her friends from her actual class (Ayano and Misao) are similar in some ways to her sister Tsukasa and their friend Konata. And of course, the otaku set, Konata, Patty, and Hiyori, seem to hang out a bit. Kagami's comment also lampshades this series' GeodesicCast.
* In ''Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaStrikers'', Griffith and Lucino are on good terms with each other, as both have a calm and serious personality, [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking and purple hair]]. Their relationship is very subtle because they are just minor characters, but it's strongly implied that they have married between ''[=StrikerS=]'' and ''[[Manga/MagicalRecordLyricalNanohaForce FORCE]]'', as Lucino has taken Griffith's surname, Lowran.
* ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamSeed''s Kira Yamato and Lacus Clyne qualify as this in that they are both idealists working for true peace.
** ''Anime/AfterWarGundamX'': Garrod and Tiffa. However, they also qualify at the same time as OppositesAttract for their different personality quirks (Garrod is a HotBlooded KidHero while Tiffa is a ShrinkingViolet) and their attitude toward fate (Garrod says "ScrewDestiny", Tiffa says "YouCantFightFate").
** ''Anime/MobileSuitGundam00'': Setsuna and Princess Marina are [[PlatonicLifePartners a NON-romantic]] example of this.
** ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamUnicorn'': Banagher and Audrey. One of the reasons why they bond quickly is the revelation that both spent the majority of their childhoods on the move. Audrey/Mineva and Riddhe develop this too when they both discover that they're trying to break away from the continuity of their respective families' past professions. Banagher also develops this later with Marida when they find out that they're both Cyber-Newtypes.
*** Except that Banagher ISN'T a Cyber-Newtype at all, he's a perfectly natural one. All Marida said was that they might [[NotSoDifferentRemark not be that different]], after all Banagher saw inside of Marida and saw that her life was full of sadness (She survived the first Neo Zeon war only to be prostituted and subjected to constant abuse and abortions until Suberoa saved her). It's more than likely that Marida saw similar trauma in Banagher's life (Thus far the anime suggested [[spoiler:his parents doctored his memories]], he was taken away from his father when he was young and then his mother died and left him alone). Nothing in the anime has suggested that Banagher is a cyber-newtype and in fact [[spoiler:the novels explicitly state that Cyber-Newtypes (like Frontal) cannot activate the La+ system or open Laplace's box]].
** ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing'': Heero and Trowa are another non-romantic version (no matter what some YaoiFangirls say -- 'sides, [[ShipperOnDeck Heero seems to ship Trowa]] [[HoYay with their common friend Quatre]] instead), thanks to extremely similar backgrounds.
* ''Manga/MariaNoDanzai'': A twisted example in that one of the reasons Kumiru Shikimi ended up being childhood friends with Tsuyoshi Kinugawa was that both were [[HairTriggerTemper ill-tempered brats]].
* ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'':
** Naruto and Hinata's romantic relationship may seem unlikely at first glance due to their contrasting personalities and combat styles. However, their mutual friends, including [[ShipperOnDeck Lee, Sakura, Kiba, and Shino]], have observed more similarities than differences between them. Growing up, Naruto and Hinata faced discrimination and setbacks due to their respective backgrounds, but they share qualities such as perseverance, loyalty, and self-doubt. According to [[AllThereInTheManual the databooks]] and ''[[Literature/KonohaHidenThePerfectDayForAWedding Konoha Hiden]]'', they both have a fondness for red bean soup and a love for preserving plant life. Interestingly, their signature colors, Orange and Purple, are connected by the "{{Red String Of Fate}}" on the [[https://web.archive.org/web/20170929145745/https://designcode.io/cloud/chapter1/Colors-Wheel.png color wheel]]. Despite living in a world where empathy is often looked down upon, Naruto and Hinata can empathize with others, which has been instrumental in their evolution from friends to romantic partners. Sakura and Tsunade's conversation in ''[[Literature/SakuraHidenThoughtsOfLoveRidingUponASpringBreeze Sakura Hiden]]'' revealed that Naruto and Hinata's adaptable dynamic with one another is what makes their relationship work.
** Tsunade and Dan. In Chapter 160, Tsunade recognizes her similarities with her lover Dan when he agrees with her desire to have at least one medical ninja in every unit so that there's a better chance of surviving a mission or even a war. Also, both have a deceased younger sibling whom they loved dearly--for her, it was her brother Nawaki; for him, it was his unnamed sister.
* ''Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi'': ([[ShipTease Possibly]]) one-sided version with Negi and Nodoka: both are quiet, unassuming, intelligent, easily flustered {{Cute Bookworm}}s. They are also two of the most dangerous members of Ala Alba, with unexpected but increasingly obvious badass sides.
* Near the end of ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'', a fair bit of time is devoted to showing how both Shinji and Asuka have the same sense of abandonment and need to be acknowledged, but react in different ways.
* Haru and Psyduck in ''Anime/PokemonConcierge'', puns aside. Psyduck has amazing psychic and mental abilities but only when he suffers incredible headaches that can cause his powers to be overwhelmed, making him a perfect partner for Haru, who is often trapped inside her own head with how much she worries and stresses over her anxiety-driven thoughts.
* In ''Anime/PokemonTheSeriesDiamondAndPearl'', when Dawn and May meet, the two Coordinators become fast friends. This is punctuated (and taken literally) when they use Piplup and Blaziken together in a tag battle.
** The whole ''DP'' arc applies this to Ash and Dawn. It's always observed by other characters that they are very similar.
** In both ''XY'' and ''SM'' sagas, Ash has this with Korrina and Lillie, respectively, but non-romantic (Uh, [[ShipTease probably]]).
* In ''Manga/PopcornAvatar'', Ren/Agni states the real reason why Lisa/Vayu and Amano/Indra tolerate each other is that they're both violent and have rotten personalities to begin with.
* Ranma and Akane from ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'' could be described as this. They're both stubborn, headstrong, competitive, short-tempered but still forgiving, martial artists, etc. Whether those similar traits are the very things that attracted them to each other in the first place [[AlternativeCharacterInterpretation is up for debate]].
* ''Manga/Reborn2004'':
** Tsuna and Kyoko aren't really very different in personality. They're both determined, naive, and good-natured, and both are very oblivious to other characters' feelings for them (In Kyoko's case, Tsuna's feelings for her; In Tsuna's case, Haru and Gokudera's feelings for him). It doesn't help that due to ArtEvolution, Tsuna and Kyoko are now practically twins, as shown in Chapter 237.
** Tsuna's new best friend Enma is basically himself. That makes them not only the "Loser Duo", but also the "[[BashBrothers Amazing Duo]]".
** Not only Tsuna and Enma, their Famiglias in general are on good terms with each other and have a lot in common. Gokudera and Shit P. find the other one weird and strange, Yamamoto and Kaoru love baseball, Ryohei and Koyo are boxing freaks. Only Hibari and Adelheid subvert this trope; both of them are similar to each other, but they also don't like each other.
* In ''AudioPlay/SaintBeast'', this is almost literal with Rey and Luca who are brought together by their ability to fly.
* Momoka and Tamama are described as being this in ''Manga/SgtFrog''. Both of them seek love from someone else but fail, and both have split personalities.
* ''Manga/SpyXFamily'': [[TuxedoAndMartini Loid]] and [[ProfessionalKiller Yor]] are only into a MarriageOfConvenience, but as thet grow closer they it becomes clear they have a lot in common: both are individuals who are orphaned at a very young age, partake in morally grey and life risking jobs for completely selfless goals while trying to hide their identities from everyone around them, and are extremely proficient in their respective occupations to the point they reached legendary status. They both also greatly care for Anya, despite not being their biological daughter. It isn't long before [[BecomingTheMask they start falling for real with each other]].
* Kotetsu Kaburagi and Tomoe Amamiya from ''Anime/TigerAndBunny'' became friends upon discovering they were both superhero geeks. [[spoiler:Worked so well that they became HighschoolSweethearts, then got HappilyMarried. Too bad poor Tomoe died of illness some years later]].
* Yuuto and Kotone from ''Manga/TonariNoKashiwagiSan'' have a lot in common, and not just their [[{{Otaku}} love for anime and manga]]. They're also both [[TwiceShy shy and awkward]] with each other, and have similar outlooks on many things.
* This is the justification Ami in ''Literature/{{Toradora}}'' offers for why she'd make a good couple with Ryuuji... Whether or not she's right is up for interpretation.
* ''Anime/VariableGeo'': Yuka and [[ChildhoodFriends her best friend]], Satomi, are cut from the same cloth. They're both [[OneOfTheBoys tomboys]], both have a strong interest in martial arts and have trained together/[[FriendlyRivalry competed against each other]] since childhood. Right down to both being combat waitresses and both strive to test themselves in the VG ring.
* In ''Manga/VirginLove'', the two leads' EthicalSlut WorkHardPlayHard personalities and their ability to relate over work is what draws them together. Daigo describes it as finally having found someone who can meet him on the same level. They also both share the weakness of {{Pride}}.
* Kyohei and Sunako from ''Manga/TheWallflower''. In spite of their obvious surface differences (Kyohei is a [[EvenTheGuysWantHim devastatingly handsome]] {{Bishonen}}, Sunako a [[NightmareFetishist devastatingly creepy]] girl), they're actually a lot alike deep down. Both of them [[SoBeautifulItsACurse don't think too highly of surface beauty]], have [[ObliviousToLove MAJOR issues with romance]] ([[EveryoneCanSeeIt much to the frustration of the other characters and readers]]), and Kyohei can even enjoy playing gory video games or watching horror movies with Sunako.
* Judai/[[DubNameChange Jaden]] and Johan/[[DubNameChange Jesse]] from ''Anime/YuGiOhGX'' are so similar, they become quickly best friends. At some point, Judai basically even abandons his other friends only to save Johan. [[spoiler:Too bad Johan dies anyway]].
* Yusei and Bruno from ''Anime/YuGiOh5Ds'' become quick friends because both of them have a high know-how about technology and they are mechanics. Bruno is also basically Yusei's Johan.
* Sensui and Itsuki of ''Manga/YuYuHakusho''. Two psycho {{Manipulative Bastard}}s who don't really fit in anywhere else...
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comic Books]]

* ComicBook/AtariForce: Most members of the second Atari Force have in common the fact that they couldn't fit in their respective planets.
* The relationship between ComicBook/GreenArrow and ComicBook/BlackCanary can often come across as this, at least when the two are written well. They're both on the low end of the power scale among the Justice League yet manage to maintain a major position (and have both been singled out to act as moral centres for the team), are both blonde and have similar physical attributes (including even sharing the same rare blood type), and they're both left-leaning in their politics (with Oliver being an outspoken liberal and social justice crusader, and Dinah being a vocal feminist, and both being sex-positive). Their biggest difference is their fighting styles, as they invert GuysSmashGirlsShoot.
* Amusingly enough their AlternateCompanyEquivalent, ComicBook/{{Hawkeye}} and ComicBook/{{Mockingbird}} also follow a similar trend. They two are both blonde with similar attributes, are DeadpanSnarker types with a hot-headed streak, and have a DarkAndTroubledPast each, and are both BadassNormal yet once lead the Avengers' spin-off team West Coast Avengers. PlayedWith though, as they've also got a fair share of OppositesAttract qualities (Bobbi is a Ph.D. holder, Clint is a high school dropout and teen runaway, they have completely opposing views on ThouShaltNotKill, and like the above, they're an inverted case of GuysSmashGirlsShoot).
* This was a recurring theme in the first issue of ''Heroes, Anonymous'', where former sidekick Attaboy's struggles to make it as a solo hero are helped when he discovers a kindred spirit, Lynn, who eventually becomes his girlfriend as they bond over an old sitcom from the '80s, "Birds of a Feather." Except Lynn is easily the quirkiest living being on the planet (she's absolutely obsessed with Birds of a Feather and the only music she listens to is whale songs), while Attaboy's attitude is something along the lines of ICouldaBeenAContender.
* ComicBook/ScottPilgrim and Ramona Flowers turn out to be pretty similar when it comes to their flaws (though Ramona's actions are worse than Scott's, balanced out by her appearing more on the ball at first glance). It comes to a head in Volume 6, when Ramona tells Scott what she did during their separation -- exactly what Scott did: moping around, watching reruns, and the like. Scott's friends declare them the perfect couple, although it has less to do with them being perfect for each other and more like they ''deserve'' each other.
* [[ComicBook/TheLifeAndTimesOfScroogeMcDuck Scrooge McDuck's]] sister Hortense was well-known for her short temper and outbursts of anger. So was Quackmore Duck. When they first meet, they get into a horrible argument...and immediately fall in love. Needless to say, this quality gets passed down to [[WesternAnimation/DonaldDuck their son]].
* ''ComicBook/TheTransformersMoreThanMeetsTheEye'': Swerve and Misfire - a pair of MotorMouth, friendly {{Pungeon Master}}s with AmusinglyAwfulAim - hit it off pretty much immediately when the Scavengers and the crew of the ''Lost Light'' finally run into each other.
-->'''Misfire:''' That's how I like my explanations. Hard, fast, and confusing.\
'''Swerve:''' [[MetaGuy Yeah, I used to be in the recap business]], and that precis did ''not'' take any prisoners.\
'''Misfire:''' It was like being beaten to death with a Story So Far.\
'''Swerve:''' A [[{{Pun}} summary execution]].\
'''Misfire:''' (shaking Swerve's hand) How come we've never met?\
'''Swerve:''' The universe hates winners.
* ''ComicBook/TheInternship'': [[spoiler:As Volume 3 reveals, River and Cooper fit this trope very well, sharing much of the same issues and flaws. Both are quick to emotion, both are quick to be aroused, and both can be pretty hypocritical. The two of them also have issues tracing back to their sexualities (Coop with accepting he’s into guys and River facing isolation for identifying as transgender), and both know what it means to be an outcast. The two of them manage to get along (after Coop finally realizes how alike they are) quite well, and even have sex at the start of Volume 4.]]
* ''ComicBook/UltimateSpiderMan'': Peter and Kitty hit it off so well because they're both pop culture geeks.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* ''Fanfic/AdviceAndTrust'': Once Shinji and Asuka start actually talking, they quickly realise that both their mothers have passed away in suspicious circumstances, and both their fathers have become distant to the point of abandonment, meaning that for the first time they can remember, they each have someone who really understands what they've been through. Plus, the experience of piloting an Evangelion sets them apart from their peers -- but it's something else that they have in common. This is a major factor in them quickly becoming joined at the hip.
* "[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/2681370/1/Alias-Mars Alias Mars]]" features the APO team (''Series/{{Alias}}'') investigating corruption in Neptune (''Series/VeronicaMars''), which leads to such alliances as Veronica joining Sydney Bristow in investigating a particular office, "Mac" Mackenzie hitting it off with Marshall due to their shared tech interests so quickly that Veronica wonders if Marshall might be Mac's long-lost uncle, and Keith Mars and Jack Bristow joining forces to interrogate Sheriff Lamb after he handed Sydney and Veronica over to Julian Sark (Lamb was told that Sark was an FBI agent).
* ''[[Fanfic/TwiceUponAnAge All This Sh*t is Twice as Weird]]'' has Cullen and Victoria - serious, well-read history buffs who are very skilled with the use of a sword. They're also both devout Andrastians, and Cullen is an ex-Templar while Victoria almost became a Templar. Perhaps unsurprisingly, they're also TwiceShy.
* ''Fanfic/BlackSky'' has a Potter wedding ritual designed for this, which lets the caster find the perfect spouse for them. When Dorea uses it, she's sent to Xanxus who shares her determination, her passion and casually terrifies everyone he meets.
* In the ''Series/{{Castle|2009}}''/''Series/{{Sherlock}}'' crossover “[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8539503/1/The-Case-Of-The-Maybe-Moriarty The Case of the Maybe Moriarty]]”, Castle and Watson in particular have a moment where they muse on their status as ‘Enablers Anonymous’, tolerating the investigative brilliance of their respective partners even at the cost of their social lives.
* ''Fanfic/ChildOfTheStorm'' has Harry and Carol, who are both HotBlooded, both love flying, both prone to ChronicHeroSyndrome, both prone to often quite dark [[DeadpanSnarker sarcasm]], and both extremely protective of people they care for. They spend the latter half of the first book and the second book dancing around each other, flirting at more or less every conceivable opportunity - [[FlirtingUnderFire up to and including in the midst of battle]] - and then vociferously denying it, even though EveryoneCanSeeIt (literally, everyone). All that keeps them apart, really, are their mutual issues. [[spoiler: They get together in chapter 46 of the sequel.]]
* In ''Fanfic/ClairDeLune'', Rarity and Lune are kindred. They both love the arts and Rarity understands Lune's feelings that others don't appreciate his art.
* ''Fanfic/CodeGeassColorlessMemories'' Rai and Kallen, as both are the aces of the Black Knights being Zero's Blue and Red Knights, they are both half breeds, have pretty similar views on the world and what they are fighting for, both have had problems with and [[spoiler:reject their Britannian heritages]], both had a sibling they loved very much, and they go to great lengths to protect people they care about.
* ''Fanfic/CodePrime'' has many characters bonding together over similar interests and experiences.
** Lelouch has this with a few characters.
*** Kallen. Both are Britannians of noble birth whose fathers are nonentities in their life (Kallen because her father travels a lot, and Lelouch due to his father exiling him and Nunnally, and then presuming them dead), have a parent figure who they despise for their poor treatment of their mother, and display a fake personality (at first, anyway) to hide their true, rebellious nature.
*** Both Lelouch and Shirley have a parent who they cherish that was taken away from them in some tragic way (though said parents are actually still alive), and are both inherently good people, though Lelouch can be manipulative at times, and Shirley borders on TheIngenue.
*** He also has this with Optimus Prime, as both are resistance fighters who care deeply for the soldiers under their command. And their greatest strength comes not from their might as warriors, but their incredible capacity to inspire hope and resolve in others.
*** Later in ''R2'', he finds similarities between himself and Leila. Both are former Britannian elites who are leading campaigns against their forsaken homeland for its discriminatory and sanctimonious regime. In addition, their teams primarily consist of Japanese who have been oppressed by Britannia, have Geass granted to them by C.C., and have romantic feelings for a pilot in their ranks (Kallen for Lelouch and Akito for Leila).
** Being the compassionate and idealistic Autobot that he always is, Optimus Prime hits it off quickly with Euphemia and later Nunnally.
** Kallen and Arcee become partners over their similarities of being strong-willed freedom fighters with UndyingLoyalty to their leaders, though Kallen can be more hot-headed than Arcee, and is implied to be in love with Lelouch. They’ve also lost someone important to them in the past war.
*** Later when Kallen travels to the EU and meets wZERO, she recognizes that she and Ayano have this, having lost close friends and siblings, and projecting a veneer of aggressiveness to hide their anguish from others.
** Grindcore and Suzaku bond in ''R2'' over being former Decepticons who wish to redeem themselves.
** Despite his hatred of humans, Starscream is genuinely respectful towards Schneizel, not only because the latter can get a job done, but he’s essentially the former’s human counterpart. Both wish to lead their respective factions and are willing to go behind their current leaders’ backs to amass the power and support needed to usurp them.
** Knock Out and Lloyd get along surprisingly well in ''R1'', as both are rather eccentric scientists who enjoy experimenting.
** Milly and Kaguya get along as well, especially when discussing ‘harem’ talks involving Lelouch, Rai, and Suzaku, much to the boys’ embarrassment.
* ''Fanfic/ADivineRomanticComedy'': Part of why [[WesternAnimation/TheOwlHouse Camila Noceda]] and [[WesternAnimation/HazbinHotel Lucifer Morningstar]] start falling in love is due to their many shared similarities. Both absolutely love their respective daughters, both understand the pain of loss (Camila through the death of her husband, Lucifer through divorce), and both are complete dorks.
* ''Fanfic/TheEchoRanger'': Izuku and Melissa are both Quirkless teenagers who admire heroes and are among the few True Believers of the Power Rangers. They also descend from families of Rangers (though Izuku was unaware of this at first) and they both have a great drive to be heroes to help people. Both also have a tendency to break into mumbling when they get excited about something.
* In ''Fanfic/ForeverAndAMile'', Octavia and Opie meet each other and immediately hit it off due to having a similar status of sorts in Odd Squad. Octavia realizes that when Odd Squad agents leave work for the day, no one checks Headquarters to see if there are any agents still around, like her, and she feels lonely because of it. Opie is the same way — he stays in the ball pit, and while agents clean out the top layers of balls after every secret meeting held in there, they don't go any deeper, meaning that he gets forgotten and has never been found by anyone.
* ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11886910/1/Gankona-Unnachgiebig-Unità Gankona, Unnachgiebig, Unità]]'' does this for Italy and Japan. Despite having vastly different personalities, they both liked literature, anime, manga, fencing, food, and cats. They both even cosplayed as Light Yagami and Teru Mikami respectively from ''Manga/DeathNote''. To say Germany wasn't pleased with this would be a ''massive'' understatement.
* ''Fanfic/AGrowingAffection'' does this for Naruto and Hinata, giving them a few interests in common outside of ninja life (swing dancing and fantasy novels among them), and a few close but not quite interests (they like romantic comedies, but for different reasons). Sakura also claims, in a fit of jealousy and sadness, that the only reason they are together is because they are both losers as ninja.
* ''Fanfic/GuardiansWizardsAndKungFuFighters'' establishes that part of [[UnholyMatrimony Cedric and Miranda's relationship]] is based on their shared love of books.
* ''FanFic/HeroesOfTheNewWorld''; Izuku and Yamato end up bonding over their mutual HeroWorshipper tendencies towards their respective idols, All Might and Kozuki Oden.
* ''Fanfic/InfinityCrisis'':
** Rocket and Mick end up forming a bond due to their status as outsiders.
** After the Crisis, Luke Cage, Jefferson Pierce, and T'Challa talk about their responsibilities as heroes of colour.
** In ''Taking Flight (and Fights)'', Bruce Banner and Jen Walters try to offer similar moments of understanding to Ben Grimm after he becomes the Thing.
** In ''Powers and Marvels'', Spider-Man bonds with the de-powered Rangers on shouldering the burden of being a hero while also dealing with teenage issues.
* In ''Fanfic/JadeLightning'', the very first friend Izuku/Mikumo makes at UA is Kaminari Denki, the only other student with a ShockAndAwe quirk. [[spoiler: By the end of the Sports Festival, they start dating]].
* ''Series/The10thKingdom'' fic "[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/20276983/chapters/48066148 The Last Dragon]]" reveals that Wolf's parents were the grandson of the Big Bad Wolf and the granddaughter of Red Riding Hood, who ended up bonding after his father saved his mother from a bear because they both realised that they were outside of society and wished to be a part of it.
* ''Fanfic/TheLegendOfTotalDramaIsland'' has two instances in the early chapters:
** The driving force behind Lindsay and Justin's relationship is that both were astounded at finding someone else as hot/gorgeous as themselves.
** After the Awake-a-thon, it comes to light that the obese and outgoing Sadie has been making eyes at the obese and outgoing Owen.
* ''Fanfic/TheLostCause'': Nie Huaisang and Jin Guangyao are a platonic version of this, as they're both ruthless manipulators. They go from tentative allies to genuinely good friends as the fic goes on.
* ''Fanfic/TheManyDatesOfDannyFenton'': Danny finds plenty of his dates share similarities with him that help him bond with them. Whether it's a double life like with WesternAnimation/KimPossible or [[Franchise/SailorMoon Makoto Kino]], feelings of longing or heartbreak like with Emma from ''WesternAnimation/{{Stoked}} or [[Franchise/TheIncredibles Violet Parr]], or being a superhero like Kara or Kitty.
** [[spoiler:After being honest on his profile, Tucker finds a date with [[Franchise/ScoobyDoo Velma Dinkley]], both of whom are geeky sidekicks]].
* ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/51650050/chapters/135414088 my beloved]]'': At the end 3, [[VideoGame/FateGrandOrder Chaldea's]] [[VideoGame/FateSamuraiRemnant Yamato Takeru]] starts to bond with Xiangyu and Sigurd after their wife Ototachibana-hime is summoned, particularly because all three heroes are surprisingly enthusiastic when talking about their wives.
* ''Fanfic/TheNewAdventuresOfInvaderZim'': In Season 2, [[EnfantTerrible Gaz]] and [[BombThrowingAnarchists Nyx]] discover that they share a love of video games, which serves as a basis for a friendship between the two of them.
* ''Fanfic/TheNightUnfurls'' has [[PlatonicLifePartners Kyril and Evetta]]. One is a [[HunterOfMonsters hunter of beasts]], the other is a [[CreepyHousekeeper creepy]]/[[KindlyHousekeeper kindly housekeeper]], the two actually resemble each other a lot despite their different roles. Both are [[TheStoic stoic]], soft-spoken characters with [[TheHermit a preference for peace, quiet, and solitude]]. They are both very dedicated and task-oriented, to the point where Kyril himself notes that she has a stubborn streak that could match his when a task has to be done. Both of them appear to be lifeless, which makes them all the more unsettling when combined with their serenity, yet have the capacity for kindness. Most importantly, they are arguably the only ones who have full knowledge of Yharnam and its secrets. [[spoiler:And there is also the fact that both of them are not human while possessing tremendous power. To be precise, Kyril is a [[HumanoidAbomination humanoid]]-[[EldritchAbomination great one]], while Evetta is a [[CreepyDoll living doll]] with an [[LovecraftianSuperpower "ancient power"]], whatever that entails...]]
* ''Fanfic/TheOneWithTheAngelicFace'' sees Buffy believing that she was forming this kind of bond with Angela (Angelus cursed with a soul ''and'' [[GenderBender turned into a woman]]) due to them both being women who fight in the darkness; Buffy muses to Willow at one point that Angela is the only thing that’s exclusively part of her ‘night life’ who doesn’t want to kill her.
* In the ''Series/Charmed1998''/''Series/{{Angel}}'' crossover series "[[https://archiveofourown.org/series/1702660 Sent to the Witch]]", Angel and Cole form a bond as demons with souls who have defied their natures to fall in love with a Charmed One.
* In [[http://archiveofourown.org/works/5409086/chapters/12496637 Slice of Souls!]], the sequel to ''Fanfic/HotspringSouls'', Solaire and Lady Maria turn out to be this. Maria initially can't stand Solaire, but the two bond over an [[DuetBonding impromptu jazz piano and drums jam session]], and things only get better from there. [[spoiler:They're also both runaways from rich, controlling families: Solaire from the House of Gwyn, and Maria from the Cainhurst Family]].
* ''Fanfic/SuperRWBYSisters'': [[WebAnimation/{{RWBY}} Ruby]] and [[VideoGame/KidIcarusUprising Pit]] are both upbeat, energetic, young looking warriors who are great fighters nonetheless. It's basically LoveAtFirstSight between the two of them.
* ''Fanfic/ThreeCanKeepASecret'': [[WesternAnimation/StarVsTheForcesOfEvil Star Butterfly]] and [[WesternAnimation/GravityFalls Pacifica Northwest]] find each other very relatable due to their shared backgrounds as the children of powerful, upper-class parents who raised them very strictly in order to mold them into suitable heirs, as well as their shared desire to experience more personal freedom and rectify the unethical actions traditionally practiced by their families. As a result, they become quick friends and close confidants.
* ''Fanfic/ASeriesOfFortunateEvents'': Saki Yoshida forged a strong friendship with a woman named Chinami based on their similarities, like the fact that they are both single mothers whom their parents threw out. And the fact that Chinami is a warm, kind-hearted person who offered Saki friendship when she first moved to the apartment complex also helped.
* In ''Fanfic/TheSearchForVictory'', when the Avengers join forces with Stargate Command to fight against the Ori, the Avengers muse that bringing Tony Stark and Rodney [=McKay=] together might be interesting given their status as eccentric geniuses. That said, after learning that [=McKay=] once blew up a solar system by accident, Sam Wilson and Clint Barton each suggest that they’d prefer to hide behind a wall to witness such a meeting.
* In ''[[Fanfic/ThroughTheLookingGlassFireflyBattlestarGalactica Through the Looking-Glass]]'', Kara and Helo end up sharing a moment after Kara learns that [[spoiler:Sam Anders is a Cylon]], as Helo is literally the only person who can understand how she feels about that revelation.
* In the ''Series/{{Supernatural}}''/''Film/JennifersBody'' crossover "Fanfic/TrustDoesntRust", Sam and Needy swiftly form a bond due to their unconventional demonic heritage, and [[spoiler:Dean later expresses an understanding of why Needy sold her soul for Jennifer based on when he did the same thing to save Sam]].
* ''Fanfic/WanderOverFostersAUOneshot'' (''WesternAnimation/WanderOverYonder'', ''WesternAnimation/FostersHomeForImaginaryFriends''): Wander and Wilt's similarly polite natures make them easy friends.
* ''Fanfic/TotalDramaEverything'':
** [[WesternAnimation/TotallySpies Sam]] and [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolid Snake]] fall for each other for their shared love of episonage.
** Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog and [[WebAnimation/{{RWBY}} Ruby Rose]] develop feelings for each other due to both being fun-loving speedsters.
* ''Fanfic/TheFlowerPrincessAndTheAlchemist'' has this for [[Manga/FullmetalAlchemist Edward]] and [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Orihime]]. [[OppositesAttract Given their temperament and personalities]], they may not appear that way at first, but [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Ed]] and [[AllLovingHeroine Orihime]] have quite a few things in common. Both are [[HeartwarmingOrphan orphans]]. Both have displayed bouts of ChronicHeroSyndrome. Both are {{Big Eater}}s. Both are [[PluckyGirl stubborn]] and [[{{Determinator}} determined]] when it comes to helping the people they love. Both are pacifists, ie. TechnicalPacifist and ActualPacifist, respectively. Both suffer from some sort of GuiltComplex. Despite their [[TheNapoleon outward apperances]] [[CloudCuckooLander and dispositions]], both display levels of [[HeroicSelfDeprecation doubts and insecurities]]. Both are InsecureLoveInterest. And both are [[TwiceShy shy and awkward when it comes to romance]].
** This is an interesting case because, in the beginning, Orihime occasionally inwardly comments how much [[YouRemindMeOfX Edward reminds her of Ichigo]]. However, when Ed and Ichigo's [[NotSoSimilar Not So Similarities]] comes to light, it's soon revealed that Ed has a lot of things more in common with ''her'' than with Ichigo. No wonder the two form a close bond and friendship that is [[spoiler: [[UnresolvedSexualTension gradually turning into love]]]].
* ''Fanfic/WhatLeadsYouHere:'' Keitaro and Natsuno are two deeply-hurt, good-hearted people who feel aimless in the new and existentially-turbulent reality they find themselves in. When both are at their lowest points, it's the other who's able to reach out and give them the hope and drive to keep living... . Also they're both ''huge'' nerds.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Animation]]
* ''WesternAnimation/ABugsLife'': Atta and Flik both lack confidence and feel like the colony is always watching them, "waiting for them to screw up."
* In ''WesternAnimation/CorpseBride'', both Victor van Dort and Victoria Everglot are quiet persons who love music. When they meet, they almost immediately bond over piano playing [[PerfectlyArrangedMarriage and quickly fall for one another]].
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Frozen|2013}}'': Anna managed to quickly bond with Hans for many reasons: youngest of their royal families, ignored by older siblings, looking for love, etc. They even sing a love song together. It's not hard to see why the two agreed to do a FourthDateMarriage. [[spoiler:Exploited and subverted on Hans's part, as it turns out that he is actually Anna's EvilCounterpart and ShadowArchetype. He faked his romance with Anna to woo her and get the Arendellian throne, his real goal. Also, when he reveals his true colors, their similarities turn out to be either superficial (although the creators have confirmed his FreudianExcuse, Hans becomes a ruthless and power-hungry man, while Anna retains her optimism and compassion) or feigned on his part (Hans couldn't care less about finding love, refusing to reconcile with his 12 older brothers).]]
* In ''WesternAnimation/MulanII'', Yao, Ling, and Chien Po are told by the Matchmaker that they will never find girlfriends because of their "lack of personalities." Not only do they find girlfriends with personalities like their own--Yao's is feisty and rebellious, Ling's [[spoiler:has a corny and immature sense of humor]] (though she tries to hide it), and Chien Po's is a sweet BigEater--but they are ''princesses''.
* In ''WesternAnimation/TheRoadToElDorado'' Tulio and Chel are both cunning and practical con artists.
* In ''WesternAnimation/TheSecretOfNIMH'', A literal example. [[ButtMonkey Jeremy the Crow]] finally meets Ms. Right, who's just as clumsy as he is.
* In the 2015 ''WesternAnimation/StrangeMagic,'' Marianne, a fairy princess, and the King of the Goblins may ''look'' like opposites but over the course of the movie, they bond over fighting, past heartbreaks, and their complete abhorrence of love. [[spoiler:And then they fall for each other]].
* In ''WesternAnimation/TheSuperMarioBrosMovie'', Mario and Peach develop a subtle romantic spark for one another due to [[spoiler:being humans who accidentally wound up in the Mushroom Kingdom via a warp pipe in the edge of a cliff and who chose to stay in the Mushroom Kingdom. Also, both are caring individuals, and both want to stop Bowser and protect their families. Plus both are FishOutOfWater to each other's respective worlds; Mario initially finds himself out of his depth in the Mushroom Kingdom, while Peach is surprised to learn that people in Mario's world don't drive on rainbows and that turtles are usually pets and not evil warlords.]]

[[folder:Films -- Live-Action]]
* In ''Film/{{Amelie}}'', both Amelie and Nino are [[ShrinkingViolet quiet]] little [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} oddballs]] who are very kind but aren't all that good at making friends.
* In ''Film/CaptainAmericaTheWinterSoldier'', Steve, despite apparently not having made any friends outside of SHIELD and the Avengers since defrosting, hits it off with Sam Wilson almost immediately. They're both war vets, they both lost a close friend in combat, they both have experience with postwar trauma (although Sam has dealt with his issues and moved on to helping others, while Steve is still struggling), and they're both straightforwardly heroic people despite the morally ambiguous spy milieu of the movie.
* ''Film/TheHungerGames'': Katniss Everdeen and Gale, both rebellious against the Capitol's regime but still working on providing for their families. Through illegal hunting, of course.
* ''Film/TheImitationGame'': Alan Turing and Joan Clarke are closer to each other than with anyone else on their team partly because they are slightly smarter than the rest, and also because they both feel oppressed by society; he is a socially awkward gay man, while she is a woman who excels in a field which at the time was reserved solely for men.
* ''Film/JasonsLyric'': Jason and Lyric have a lot in common; having a toxic/troubled sibling and dreaming of running away for a better life. Lyric has been aware of what she has always wanted, on the contrary, it takes a while for Jason to realize his deepest desire to be free and happy.
* ''Film/JamesBond'' and many {{Bond girl}}s are like this, being suave, sexy, and seductive; many times, they also share the same occupation and goal. This is the same for the novels to a degree. One reason Bond falls for Vesper Lynd in ''Literature/CasinoRoyale'' is that he finds her easy to talk to and open up to, and they find they have a lot to talk about.
** Creator/JohnLeCarre's conception of Bond adds another element to this. Le Carre disliked Bond and said he's perfect traitor material.[[note]]In case you're wondering, it is the fact that Bond is materialistic, neo-fascistic, and completely divorced from any political context. There is the sense that he would have worked for any country as long as the girls were pretty and the martinis dry, obviously a rather negative trait as a spy.[[/note]] (He actually worked in [=MI6=], so he'd probably know.) [[spoiler:Vesper is in fact a traitor]].
%%Administrivia/PartialContextExample. Needs context about their relationship* Film/LittleVoice: LV and Billy are shy, quiet people who have their hobbies.
%%Administrivia/PartialContextExample. Needs context about their relationship* In ''Film/Super8'', Joe and Alice both have [[ParentalNeglect neglectful fathers]] and [[MissingMom missing mothers]].
* ''Literature/SomeGuyWhoKillsPeople'': Downplayed, but Stephanie's attraction to Ken is helped by how they're both outsiders in a sense. He's a former mental patient and she's a lonely, divorced English expat.
* ''Film/Tetris2023'': Once Alexey and Henk manage to spend some time together away from the eyes of the corrupt Soviet Regime, they immediately bond over their mutual love of programming and ''Tetris'', becoming fast friends. They end up becoming TrueCompanions by the time the credits roll.
* In ''Film/{{Together}}'', Fredrik and Eva find out that they have the same diopter of 4.5 and that both are subject to bullying at school and kind of lonely characters which creates a strong bond between them.
* Both couples in ''Film/WhiteChristmas'', the mature Bob and Betty in contrast to the outgoing Phil and Judy.
* ''Film/XMenFilmSeries'':
** ''Film/XMenFirstClass'':
*** Mutants in general are thrilled to meet other mutants since each one believes they were the only one. The adolescents are then "adopted" by Charles and Erik.
*** It's especially intense between [[IJustWantToBeNormal Hank and Raven]] because they possess visible mutations, but they drift apart after the latter begins to accept her real appearance.
*** Among the young recruits, Xavier connects more strongly with [=McCoy=] than with the others because both men are scientists with a similar temperament who believe it's important to HideYourOtherness from human society. ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'' even goes a step further by showing us that they become HeterosexualLifePartners.
** ''Film/XMenApocalypse'':
*** Jean Grey is scared of her telepathic power, and Xavier himself had struggled with his psychic abilities as a child (as mentioned in ''Days of Future Past''), so he relates more strongly to Jean's situation than the difficulties the other young mutants have faced. They have a very profound surrogate father-daughter bond because they are the only ones who can fully understand what it's like to be a telepath and the troubles that come with their mutant gift.
---->'''Jean''': ''[upset]'' You don't know what it's like to be afraid to shut your eyes, to be trapped inside your own head.\
'''Charles''': Oh, I think I do. It wasn't so long ago that I was plagued by voices myself. All their suffering, all their pain, their secrets.
*** Scott Summers and Jean are able to relate to each other when their other classmates look down on them because of the uncontrollable nature of their powers, and gradually, their friendship deepens. Throughout the movie, Jean is emotionally supportive of newcomer Scott, which mirrors their psychic rapport in the comics.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Literature]]
* ''Literature/AscendanceOfABookworm'': The protagonist is in a ReincarnateInAnotherWorld situation, and a lot of the plot is dedicated to the differences between her new world and Earth. One nobleman she meets later in the story is a reformist at heart and many of the reforms he's trying to implement make things closer to what the protagonist is used to, causing their agendas to converge quite often. It's to the point that when the protagonist suggests something that goes against the grain of her world's common sense for a concert she's organizing, the person she's talking to assumes she got the idea because that same nobleman rubbed off on her. Their personalities are also similar enough that they tie at number one source of headaches for a CloudcuckoolandersMinder they more or less share and consider each other the weirdest person they know.
* ''Literature/AudreyWait'': Audrey and James are ''huge'' music enthusiasts, and this is their go-to conversation topic.
* ''Literature/TheDoorwayAndTheDeep'': Eliot and Oliver have bonded over their shared love of the arts (poetry for Oliver, drawing for Eliot). Fife took a disliking to Eliot as a result, because Eliot's relationship with Oliver is closer than his own is.
* Creator/JaneAusten:
** This goes at least as far back as ''Literature/PrideAndPrejudice'' and ''Literature/SenseAndSensibility'', and possibly even as far as her first written novel ''Susan'', later retitled ''Literature/NorthangerAbbey''.
** In ''Sense and Sensibility'', Marianne acknowledges Edward is suited for Elinor because of this trope, although having a reserved lover like Edward would disappoint Marianne herself, who longs for someone who shares her taste in music and art; Colonel Brandon's EstablishingCharacterMoment happens to include a MeaningfulEcho of her words.
** A great part of the point of ''Pride and Prejudice'' is to show that even if Lizzie and Darcy are both judgmental snobs with a certain disregard for politeness, they can show a great deal of kindness and loyalty and are much more clever and single-minded than any other character, thus being perfectly suited for each other once they smooth over the bumps in their road.
** {{Bookworm}}s Catherine Morland and Henry Tilney of ''Northanger Abbey''.
** Sweet, reserved, and morally upright Fanny and Edmund in ''Literature/MansfieldPark'', due to growing up LikeBrotherAndSister... in conclusion, Jane Austen loves this trope and TeacherStudentRomance.
* This trope seems to be at the core of the relationship between Ciaphas Cain and the inquisitor Amberly Vail in the ''Literature/CiaphasCain'' series. Cain spends the vast majority of his life pretending to be something he's not as a FakeUltimateHero.... something which Amberly, who spends huge swaths of time either in disguise or projecting an air of [[ToughLeaderFacade deadly, calm, quiet confidence as an Inquisitor,]] can easily relate to. Both of them wear their burdens far more heavily than they can ever openly admit.
* In ''Literature/{{Divergent}}'', Tris and Four are [[spoiler:both Divergent, both transfers to Dauntless from Abnegation, and both had council members as parents]].
* In the ''Literature/FairyOak'' series:
** Lilium Martagaon is a middle-aged, huge smith, who is actually very shy and, because of that, quite lonely; and Vivian Amory is a young widow who never remarried and was getting older, and was taller than most men.
** Shirley is a sweet girl who loves animals, teaching magic to others, and drawing. Her boyfriend Tommy is a young Wizard of the Light who is very patient and caring towards others and loves drawing portraits.
* [[BetaCouple Caine and Diana]], from Michael Grant's ''Literature/{{GONE}}'' series, are more or less male/female counterparts of each other. Both [[ConsummateLiar lying]], {{manipulative|Bastard}}, [[ItsAllAboutMe selfish]], [[TheSociopath apathetic sociopaths]], even Diana admits in ''LIES'' that the only reason they loved each other is because no one else would be insane enough to love them because they're both sick and evil;
-->''...as sad as it was to realise, he was all she had. The two of them. Sick puppies. Twisted, arrogant, cruel and cold, both of them. How could she love someone like that? How could he? Process of elimination? Neither of them could find anyone else? Even the nastiest, ugliest species found mates.''
** Worth noting that they even ''look' alike. They're both described as skinny, Caucasian brunettes with dark brown eyes and are apparently both very physically attractive (even the heroes admit this) until starvation sets in.
* This is a significant theme in ''Film/GoneWithTheWind''. Scarlett spends the majority of the novel lusting after Ashley, who is different from her in every way that counts. Even though a bunch of characters, most often her father, tell her that like needs to marry like, it takes her until the end of the novel to figure out she would be happiest with roguish Rhett Butler. Of course, by the time she clues in, he's sick of her.
* ''Literature/GoodOmens'': Anathema Device and Newton Pulsifer have both given their vehicles names (hippy Anathema's is a bike; loser Newton's is the worst car ever). They're literally destined to hook up.
* ''Literature/HarryPotter'':
** Harry and Ginny. According to WordOfGod on the ''Accio Quote!'' website, both are "very strong and very passionate." Both have a great proficiency in Defense Against the Dark Arts, both love to play Quidditch, both are Leos, both have a darker sense of humor, and both are considered very good-looking, enough to attract many people of the opposite sex. Ginny is also notably the only girl of Harry's generation who, like Harry, personally suffered at the hands of Voldemort at a young, vulnerable age.
** Neville and Hannah Abbott. Though their relationship was only brought up in interviews, Hannah has been stated multiple times to share Neville's interest in Herbology, and was a staunch member of Dumbledore's Army from the very beginning, meaning they have undoubtedly spent a great deal of time together [[OffScreenRomance off-screen]] and have quite a bit in common. They also both had some self-esteem issues growing up (see Hannah's panic attack in the run-up to O.W.L.s).
* In ''Literature/TheHellfireClub'' by Creator/PeterStraub, this is the reason why villainous SerialKiller Dick Dart claims he [[StalkerWithACrush loves and adores]] Nora. Because of a misunderstanding on his part where he thought she had kidnapped a woman and tortured her horribly for several days, he comes to believe that they are alike. He even comes out and says that he's so happy he found a female version of himself. In wit and many other ways, they ''are'' shown to be a worthy match... the only thing is that Nora is ''not'' fond of [[AxCrazy killing people in bloody ways]].
* Shows up quite often in ''Literature/HonorHarrington''.
** Three times with Eloise Pritchart, one romantic and two platonic:
*** She falls in love with Javier Giscard because of their shared belief in the old Republic of Haven, igniting a love affair that will quite simply blaze for the rest of her life... [[spoiler:even if he lost his in the Battle of Lovat]].
*** She becomes extremely close with Thomas Theisman, to the point of being {{Not Love Interest}}s, as they work together to rebuild the Republic after the damage of the Legislaturalists and later the Committee of Public Safety; she notes to herself that, as far as their belief in their star nation went, she was "as hopelessly romantic" as he.
*** After [[spoiler:the formation of the Grand Alliance]], she also becomes extremely close with [[spoiler:Queen Elizabeth III, her Manticoran counterpart]], due to their shared determination, positions as leaders of a nation, and similar stubbornness and innate goodness.
** Along with the last example mentioned above, the [[spoiler:Grand Alliance]] results in a couple more of these:
*** Honor Harrington and [[spoiler:Thomas Theisman]], in a bond that is finally blossoming after twenty years of mutual wary respect.
*** Sonja Hemphill and [[spoiler:Shannon Foraker]], two technological geniuses who head out to the geek's equivalent of Candyland and start dreaming up some [[spoiler:''extremely'' nasty surprises for the people who set Manticore and Haven at war with each other]].
*** Michelle Henke and Lester Tourville, a pair of (seeming) {{Military Maverick}}s, get along like the proverbial fiery house from the moment they first meet.
* ''Literature/TheHungerGames'':
** Katniss and Gale, both rebellious against the Capitol's regime but still working on providing for their families through illegal hunting. [[spoiler:Ultimately subverted, as the two end up having a falling out over Prim's death, which may have been caused by Gale's plan, and Katniss moves on to the sweet and patient Peeta. Years afterward, Katniss reflects that what she needs is not Gale's fire (she has plenty of it herself), but Peeta's warmth to balance her own rather ruthless and cynical tendencies out.]]
** Katniss and Haymitch also have this, but in their case, it's deconstructed; while they do care deeply about each other, their respective similarities cause them to bicker a lot and even take out their own self-hatred on each other.
* Ward of ''Literature/{{Hurog}}'' is immediately smitten with Tisala, who is tall, strong, and visibly a warrior. They are both very tall people, with brown cow eyes. When she mocks his eyes, he counters with a {{stealth insult}} against hers, but it's all in good fun. [[spoiler:They end up together]].
* The ''In Death'' series: Winnie and Moriarty from ''Indulgence in Death'' are very much this. In fact, one woman says that those two are not two sides of the same coin, but they ''are'' the same side!
* In ''Literature/MagikOnline'' Maggie and Mur quickly bond given how similar they are, being rough, hedonistic, greedy, and amoral fighters driven on by a hatred of their own weakness despite one being a demon and the other a squishy human.
* ''Literature/RascalDoesNotDreamOfBunnyGirlSenpai'' has Sakuta and Mai, the main couple, who fit the trope. They have a playful and sarcastic streak and are somewhat lonely, and yet they're both immensely kind, selfless and genuinely good-hearted individuals who will always help others and be self-sacrificing no matter what.
* In Andersen's ''The Shepherdess and the Chimney-sweep'', the titular StarCrossedLovers are like this:
--> ''They had both been put on the table where they stood and, having been placed there, they had become engaged because they suited each other exactly. Both were young, both were made of the same porcelain, and neither could stand a shock.''
* In ''Literature/{{Starburst}}'', Rene Brownlow has always had a unique sense of humour, and is struck by the appeal of meeting someone just like her when she first talks with Mattie, another comedienne at the Festival. [[spoiler:Rene and Mattie establish such a good bond that they eventually improvise a highly successful double act, which leads to them being invited to a similar festival in Boston once the Fringe is over]].
* Esperanza has a much stronger relationship with her uncle than her father in ''Literature/TheseSavageBones'', given their similarities in personality and Miguel's understanding of her fascination with science and machines. She considers Miguel more of a father than Eduardo. [[spoiler:All the more fitting once she finds out he actually is]].
* ''Franchise/WarriorCats:''
** Faced with [[LoveTriangle a choice]] between Ashfur (a patient, cautious cat) and Brambleclaw (someone as bold and stubborn as she is), Squirrelflight chooses the latter.
--->''Squirrelflight needed someone to match her fire, not contain it, and that cat was always going to be Brambleclaw.''
** The hot-tempered, almost xenophobic Leopardstar had unrequited feelings for Tigerstar, a fellow Clan leader who [[EvilCounterpart took both those traits to horrific extremes]].
** Jayfeather falls in (requited) love with [[spoiler:Half Moon]]: like him, she's a nascent shaman fascinated by the mystical aspects of their world.
** Ravenpaw and Barley are a platonic ([[HoYay/WarriorCats ?]]) example of the trope. Both characters are peaceful, introverted toms who experienced childhood trauma. They share the same 'happy ending': living out their days on a peaceful, isolated farm, with no one to worry about but each other.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Live-Action TV]]
* Tate and Violet from ''Series/AmericanHorrorStoryMurderHouse'', two NightmareFetishist emo teens. The two bond over cutting themselves.
* Subverted with Barry Allen and Felicity Smoak from ''Series/{{Arrow}}'' and ''Series/TheFlash2014''. They're extremely alike -- both are adorkable, excitable, optimistic, and intelligent -- but they're LikeBrotherAndSister. In ''The Flash'', Barry admits that they would be perfect for each other if they weren't too busy pining over other people.
* Madge and Rocky from ''Series/AsTimeGoesBy''. As Rocky's son Lionel puts it, "she's as crackers as he is."
* John Sheridan and Ambassador Delenn from ''Series/BabylonFive'', whose interest in each other quickly begins to heat up when they discover that they share not only a gift for military and political strategy but an innate curiosity about other races.
* ''Series/{{Bridgerton}}'': How Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma connect to one another. They were both forced to be the [[PromotedToParent dutiful head of their family following their fathers' sudden deaths]] and had to ensure their younger siblings' futures. During an emotionally tense moment, Anthony specifically points out the sacrifices they've made due to their family headships and how they deserve to do what ''they'' want for once.
* ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'' & ''Series/{{Angel}}'':
** Buffy and Angel are arguably this. They're both compassionate, responsible, down-to-earth, neurotic 'weight-of-the-world' leaders with connecting problems and a martyr complex. They straddle the line of being ''in'' the world, but not part of it--Buffy as The Slayer and Angel as the vampire with a soul--which could've been what started their love in the first place.
** Willow and Tara. They're both patient, sweet, a little shy, and most obvious--witches. In fact, their mutual interest in magic is what blossomed their connection to begin with.
** Fred and Wesley. [[PairTheSmartOnes Obviously]].
** After Faith returns she sneaks off for a smoke, where she is found by Spike. Sharing the cigarette they discuss the potential slayers that are being trained up, going evil and Buffy. Their shared experiences (as well as a rather saucy comment Faith made [[GrandTheftMe while pretending to be Buffy]] that Spike had not forgotten) leads to a mutual understanding, respect, and likeness for each other.
** When Wood goes on a date with Buffy he reveals that he is the son of a former slayer. Later Faith would sleep with Wood.
* ''Series/CallTheMidwife'' has Dr Turner and nurse Sister Bernadette, both kind, dedicated healers devoted to a common cause and very much cut from the same cloth, dubbed "[[PortmanteauCoupleName Turnadette]]" by fandom. The fact that Sister Bernadette is also a devoted ''nun'', however, means that she spends the second series torn between her love and her vows [[spoiler:until, after a bout of TB and a lot of soul-searching, she leaves the convent and he asks her to marry him]].
* Joey and Pacey from ''Series/DawsonsCreek'', though naturally being [[TooMuchAlike just as proud and sassy as the other]], they had to go through plenty of [[BelligerentSexualTension bickering]] and denial to get there.
* ''Series/TheDefenders2017'':
** ''Series/Daredevil2015'': [[Creator/CharlieCox Matt]] [[BlindJustice Murdock]] [[OfficialCouple and]] [[Creator/DeborahAnnWoll Karen]] [[SexySecretary Page]]. Both are driven by a sense of justice, they both have an inner struggle about life and death. They both think other people's lives are worth saving (Grotto and Frank Castle) even if they've done bad things, and they want to seek justice in their own way. They even like the same kind of simple "cheap" life. While Karen doesn't have Matt's fighting skills and needs to be rescued at times, she makes up for that in determination and ingenuity. And unlike Matt, Karen ''has'' actually killed someone (James Wesley).
** ''Series/IronFist2017'': Deconstructed with Danny Rand and Colleen Wing. They have an awful lot in common, personality-wise, but Claire Temple points out that this is not necessarily a ''good'' thing, since [[BloodKnight the two have a shared propensity towards solving every problem with violence]].
* The Doctor from ''Series/DoctorWho'' has this relationship with both [[EvilCounterpart The Master]] and [[LadyofAdventure River Song]]. Ironically, this causes him to dislike them, rather than like them, although River does [[OfficialCouple grow on him]]. As of "The Doctor's Wife" we can add [[RoboShip the TARDIS]] to the list.
* Topher and Bennett of ''Series/{{Dollhouse}}'' serve pretty much the exact same function in their respective houses.
* Sybil and Branson on ''Series/DowntonAbbey'' They are initially drawn to each other due to their shared interest in politics and women's rights. Later episodes reveal their rebellious natures and disregard for societies class divisions.
* ''Series/{{Friends}}'':
** Chandler and Monica seem to be OppositesAttract at first glance (he's a laid-back, snarky commitment-phobe, she's an uptight {{control freak}} desperate for a serious relationship), however the moment you glance below the surface they're very similar. They both suffered [[ParentalNeglect difficult childhoods]], are very neurotic, insecure but hugely loyal, value trust and stability, and essentially hold their circle of friends together. The key is that while their ''reactions'' are different, their issues are similar so they can understand each other. (Which is very much TruthInTelevision.) This conversation sums up their shared issues well:
--->'''Chandler:''' Is that why you became a chef? So that people would like you?\
'''Monica''': Oh, you really want to talk about getting people to like you huh, funny man?
** Interestingly Monica's SecondLove Pete was ''too'' similar to her. Like Monica he was a CompetitionFreak and {{determinator}}, which actually caused their break up, hinting Monica couldn't be with someone as stubborn and driven as she was. Her next and final boyfriend was Chandler who repeatedly demonstrated he was capable of stabilizing her.
** Ross and Julie, Ross and Mona, Ross and Charlie, and even Ross and Emily are also this. (Contrasting with [[OppositesAttract Rachel]].)
* ''Series/GameOfThrones'':
** Davos is one of the rare noblemen to be truly altruistic and dutiful to the realm as a whole aside from the Starks. Thus he is a natural addition to the Stark cause.
** When Lord Bolton and Locke return to the Dreadfort in the second episode of Season Four, it's immediately clear that Locke and Ramsay are friends, each being a reckless {{sadist}} who delights in random torture, rape, and murder.
** It's not hard to see why Ramsay and Myranda like each other; they're both repulsive sadists and merciless killers.
** Yara with Daenerys, as strong-willed women looking to make their mark in a patriarchal society. The admiration between the two when they first meet is instant and obvious - and perhaps not entirely platonic, either...
* ''Series/HouseOfTheDragon'': Corlys Velaryon recruits Daemon to join him in opposing the Crab Feeder against Viserys's orders by citing their common Valyrian heritage, interest in defending the realm, and as second sons who had to make their word worthwhile rather than simply give it. Daemon is more skeptical and dismissive of their supposed likeness but agrees to help him nonetheless.
* Chuck and Blair on ''Literature/GossipGirl'' are basically a male and female version of the same character. In a completely different way, Blair and Dan.
* ''Series/{{Grimm}}'': Some of the Wesen are this.
** Blutbad too. Granted with the wolf-like nature of their species it is safe to say it is similar to how pack mentality works. It's natural for them to gravitate toward one another as in the case of Monroe, Angelina, Hap, and Rolf.
** Ironically despite being from different "species" of wesen, Rosalee and Monroe seem to be heading in this direction themselves. Both appear to have calm collected dispositions. Both are rehabilitated and are attempting to live normal lives. It would also appear that like Monroe, Rosalee has no qualms about doing mundane tasks like maintaining a herbal shop.
%%Administrivia/ZeroContextExample** The Jägerbär (Bear) family for example.
%%Administrivia/ZeroContextExample** The Spinnetod (Spider) husband and wife. According to the husband when they saw each other in school "they just knew"
* In the first season of ''Series/HowIMetYourMother'', Barney tries to seduce Robin, saying that "we both [[CommitmentIssues think commitment's a drag]], we want something fun and casual, and we clearly get along". They didn't get together then but jump to season four, where they're firmly in WillTheyOrWontThey Land. By season eight, [[spoiler:they are engaged with season 9 about their wedding. It's ultimately deconstructed, however, as most of their relationship problems come from them being too similar. They break up in season 5 for this very reason, and the GrandFinale reveals that they got divorced after only three years of marriage]].
** More so in season 9 but we see how alike Ted and the titular Mother are. Both are the NiceGuy and NiceGal, have driving gloves, knows facts that only each other would find interesting/funny, and loves going roadside to see obscure things. And [[spoiler:the Mother's FirstLove Max died in 2005 (the same time Ted met Robin), leaving her unable to move on in any relationship]], similar to what had happened with Ted and Robin.
** Though the downside of this trope is also shown with Quinn and Barney. While they got along well enough initially as they truly got each other and loved manipulating others, they eventually realized they couldn't trust each other.
* Carly and Freddie on ''Series/ICarly'', especially when compared to the other member of their PowerTrio, Sam. Most notable in "iSell Penny Tee's" with the contrasting styles in running their t-shirt factories. Sam runs her 'factory' like a child labour sweatshop, while Carly and Freddie run their way by being nice and fun.
* ''Series/LessonsInChemistry'': Calvin and Elizabeth are both socially awkward geniuses so they bond and fall in love quickly after the misunderstanding of their first meeting is cleared up.
* Wendy and Tyler in ''Series/TheMiddleman'' are both geeky artists with a high potential for heroics (even if Wendy was the one eventually chosen for the job).
* ''Series/NedsDeclassifiedSchoolSurvivalGuide'': The episode "Positives and Negatives" has Ned trying to cheer up depressed school student Mark Downer, whose depression is affecting the whole school. After unsuccessfully trying to use positive influence, Professor Xavier explains how multiplying a negative with a negative equates to a positive, so Ned gets Mark to go on a date with goth girl Sarah. His plan works ([[ItMakesSenseInContext albeit not without Ned getting shocked in an explosion]]) and the two go on a date and become happier afterwards.
* ''Series/NeverHaveIEver'': Devi with TheRival, Ben. They're both competition freaks and see each other as equals. She realizes he's always been there for her and they kiss in the S01 finale, although their ultimate InUniverse fate is still yet to be seen.
* Seth and Anna on ''Series/TheOC'' were this - it ended up being the cause for their break-up.
* All of the good, long lasting couples on ''Series/{{The Office|US}}''. These include Jim and Pam, Michael and Holly, Andy and Erin[[note]]until season 9, at least[[/note]], Dwight and Angela, along with secondary couples like Bob Vance and Phyllis.
* In ''Series/ParksAndRecreation'' despite the upbeat [[ThePollyanna Leslie]] being put off by [[TheCynic Ben's]] initial iciness it's quickly revealed they're both incredible dorks and very competent, driven government employees who just want to make the world a better place. (Amongst other things they're both masters at Model UN and roleplay political figures in their sex life.) Their surface difference also dwindles in time, as Ben loses his cynicism and Leslie becomes marginally more realistic.
* Jack O'Neill did poke fun at it in an episode of ''Series/StargateSG1''. "It has to do with flocking... and togetherness."
* ''Series/TheVampireDiaries'':
%%How so?** Damon and Rose.
** Stefan and Elena. Both are compassionate, selfless, and caring and have various tastes, hobbies, and interests in common.
* ''Series/TheWilds'': Nora and Quinn were very much alike (they're implied to both have autism). She was instantly attracted to him when he shared her difficulty with social interaction. They got into a relationship but eventually broke up.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Manhwa]]
* In ''Manhwa/ThreadsOfTime'', Atan Hadas falls in love with protagonist Moon-Bin because (due to being from the future) he is open-minded about women's rights, kind-hearted, and dislikes unnecessary violence. Because she is an outgoing {{Tsundere}} who wishes people would see women as equals, she finds him refreshing and wonderful, calling him her "precious confidant," and loves talking with him because they have similar views. To further this trope, she ''hates'' [[StalkerWithACrush Sali Taiyi]] because of his chauvinistic views and [[AxCrazy horribly violent ways]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Music]]
* Occasionally offered as one reason behind Unknowing Incest situations. This reasoning is referenced in Music/WeirdAlYankovic's "A Complicated Song": "I was / Feelin' pretty down / 'Til my / Girlfriend came around / We're just / So alike in every way, I gotta say..."
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Roleplay]]
* ''Roleplay/DawnOfANewAgeOldportBlues'':
** Before she was transformed into sentient ink, Katheryn had a crush on Jacob, who shares much of her pedantic, uptight traits.
** This applies two-fold to Luna: she's attracted towards Hyeon and Nadine's gang due to their rebellious, devil-may-care attitudes, but is also close friends with Ivy due to their shared interest in geeky hobbies.
** Nadine and Hyeon have similar counterculture attitudes, which Benedict points out when he realises that they used to date:
--->'''Benedict:''' You two hate society for some reason, so you probably wanted to wallow in a pit of sadness- or punk, whatever- and complain about everything!
* Tris and Chaos (two wacky outlaws), Beth and Corri (two ''extremely'' good Jedi), and Moira and Darth Apparatus (two insane Sith) in ''Roleplay/TheGunganCouncil''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Theatre]]
* Though it's downplayed in the film, the stage version of ''Theatre/TheSoundOfMusic'' emphasises that Maria and the Captain share a mutual love of music, Austria, and the mountains, which lays the foundation for their romance.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Video Games]]
* ''VideoGame/BioshockInfinite'' gives us Robert and Rosalind Lutece. Both are [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} absolutely]] [[GeniusDitz nuts]]. and there is a subtle attraction between them, particularly if you read Rosalind's voice logs. [[spoiler:As they are alternate universe representations of the same person, it borders on [[ScrewYourself Selfcest]]]].
* ''VideoGame/BlazBlueCrossTagBattle'': [[VideoGame/Persona4Arena Yukiko Amagi]] and [[WebAnimation/{{RWBY}} Weiss Schnee]]. Heiresses of well-off families? [[LadyOfWar Graceful dancers on the battlefield]]? ''Of course'' they'd get along!
* ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyX'' has Tidus and Yuna with a bit of OppositesAttract. Now Tidus is outgoing and loud, while Yuna is quiet and dignified, but they are each a prodigy and the child of a famous hero, they both live in their shadows, both are adventurous and want to see more of the world and each of them wants to really make their mark on history.
* ''Franchise/FireEmblem'' often gives [[RelationshipValues support conversations]] and/or common endings at A support level to people who are very similar in personalities. I.e., we have the cavalier Kent and the pegasus knight Fiora: both are serious, protective, kind characters who bond over their similarities:
-->'''Fiora:''' I am Fiora, the pegasus knight. You have been looking after my sister. Allow me to thank you.
-->'''Kent:''' Oh, yes... When we were in Caelin, Florina spoke of you often...
-->'''Fiora:''' Oh, what did she say?
-->'''Kent:''' [[LampshadeHanging That you...were a lot like me]].
* ''VideoGame/FireEmblemAwakening'':
** Frederick and Cherche are both completely loyal to their lords (Chrom and Virion, respectively), {{workaholic}}s that do all the menial chores said lords can't be bothered with without a single complaint, they're both quite well-spoken and abide by strict knightly virtues. If they get married, their ending states that they both keep soldiers in line with their [[TranquilFury "famously disarming smiles"]].
** If [[FragileSpeedster Olivia]] and [[MasterSwordsman Lon'qu]] fall in love, Olivia will lampshade this trope in their S Support:
-->"We both get embarrassed, and we both have a hard time around people! We're going to get along PERFECTLY!"
** This is also why you can pair up Chrom with Olivia, despite the lack of time they spend together (which is even lampshaded as a "whirlwind romance"). They're both incredibly kind-hearted people who wrestle with using violence, but they're also extensively prone to social awkwardness in an endearing way.
** By the same token, she's this with Stahl as well, as they are both adorkable {{Extreme Doormat}}s.
** On Lon'qu's side, he's also this with Panne as both have a DarkAndTroubledPast and suffer from nightmares as a result.
** Rather hilariously subverted with Henry and Tharja. Both are very strange-minded Dark Mages who ''love'' fighting out there, but he's a PerpetualSmiler and she's a PerpetualFrowner -- meaning, they're both this ''and'' OppositesAttract. And yet Tharja says they swear by this trope if they hook up since they're not the most normal people anyway.
** Lucina and the male Avatar (aka [[CanonName Robin]]) are both leaders capable of inspiring trust and love among their comrades, according to Tiki. They are also both extremely loyal, levelheaded, self-sacrificing, and humble {{Workaholic}}s who are great at thinking on the fly, treasure the bonds between them and their comrades deeply, are very close to [[TheHero Chrom]], and have a huge effect on the future of their world.
*** Lucina is also similar to Gerome in that they both only shine on the battlefield, and they both show a very aloof demeanor early on due to their beliefs that they shouldn't meddle too deeply with the events of the timeline. They even both wear masks, though Lucina doesn't keep hers for long. Gerome, however, notes that Lucina is a better leader than he is.
** [[LargeHam Owain]] and [[{{Hotblooded}} Cynthia]] both are bombastic hero types who play it up for the sake of morale, the only difference is the how (Owain trying to come off as edgy while Cynthia going ForGreatJustice.)
** Brady and Noire have a tendency to get sick or hurt easily and are among the physically weaker children, which does not help their self-esteems.
*** Brady and Severa are the two resident cynics compared to the theoretic pair of Owain and Cynthia!
*** Noire also finds common ground with Yarne, sharing cowardice, lack of self-esteem, and dislike of battle.
* The Avatar (aka [[CanonName Corrin]]) and Princess Azura from ''VideoGame/FireEmblemFates'', due to being [[ChildOfTwoWorlds Children of Two Worlds]]--the former is a Hoshidan Prince or Princess raised in Nohr, which is vice-versa for the latter. They're both courageous, humble, and compassionate RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething; they both [[InnocentlyInsensitive struggle with]] [[NoSocialSkills social norms]] due to their [[GirlInTheTower reclusive childhoods]]; and they're both caught in a war where [[SadisticChoice they have family on both sides]]. Naturally, they bond pretty quickly over all this, and if the Avatar is a guy he and Azura can get married.
** Azura also has this with one of Corrin's retainers, Jakob, due to both being [[UndyingLoyalty unflinchingly loyal]] to the main character. Azura's one of the few people that Jakob is actually polite to, and the only one he explains his DarkAndTroubledPast to.
** Hana has this with two of her potential husbands, Jakob and Silas, who focus on serving and protecting Corrin above all else. She does the exact same thing for her liege, Princess Sakura.
** Once Hayato stops [[RunningGag running away from Oboro]], they bond over having been orphaned at an early age.
** Niles and Beruka are both [[spoiler:former street urchins who were abandoned by their mothers, raised by crooked people and wound up in the services of royals after a failed assassination (Beruka) or a failed attempt to rob Castle Krackenburg (Niles). It's also revealed that their mothers are buried in the same graveyard]].
** Mozu, like Hana, has two. She and Silas are both humble and [[NiceGuy nice to people]] to the point of neglecting themselves; and she and Keaton are both country folk who excel at hunting.
** In the DLC-available third path ''Revelation'', Arthur and Setsuna both have tendencies for mishaps while helping others, which brings them closer if their whole support chain is pursued.
** Surprisingly, [[BlackKnight Prince Xander]] and [[WhiteMagicianGirl Princess Sakura]] turn out to be more similar than they thought, since Sakura is a very shy ShrinkingViolet while Xander used to be one and still is in a sense. Their B and A supports are about them realizing this and starting to bond over it.
* ''VideoGame/FireEmblemWarriors'':
** Fredrick and Camilla get along very nicely due to their devotions to Chrom and Corrin respectively.
** Camilla also bonds well with Tharja due to the devotion they harbor towards Corrin and Robin, respectively. They even have a support conversation discussing these traits, taking them to the extreme through "bird-watching" and "dragon-watching".
* In ''VideoGame/KittyPowersMatchmaker'', it's easier to pair together people of the same Type, though it's not impossible to pair different types, and in fact there are achievements for doing so.
* Commander Shepard and Miranda Lawson in ''VideoGame/MassEffect2''. Shepard comes ''this'' close to naming the trope if you decide to break up with her.
--> '''Shepard:''' This won't work, Miranda. We're too much alike.
* ''VideoGame/Persona4'': This is the main reason why the main character and Yosuke get along so well. Both of them are defined by their childhoods of moving around a lot and thus not having the chance to make friends and struggling with loneliness. They enjoy looking out for the others' well-being, have a strong sense of morale, and are noted for being reliable, though given Yosuke's is the protagonist's BromanticFoil, it means that he's treated more in a clownish sort of way with his own faults which makes the protagonist look better.
** Yosuke and Chie also fit this: Both of them are very insecure of themselves because of their perceived lack of specialness (which becomes more noticeable with the rest of the Investigation Team) and not fitting in with the others. Both enjoy being relied on as a result of this insecurity. Additionally, both of them share a close bond with their best friends up to HoYay and LesYay levels yet they also have buried resentment toward their best friends, something they are ashamed of: Chie's Shadow was based on her resentment of Yukiko being popular, traditionally pretty, and smart. Yosuke resents the protagonist for just being better and adapting easier, to where he asks the protagonist to punch him to get it out of him.) In fact, they're each other's closest friends after their best friends (with Yosuke being Chie's first real friend after Yukiko and Chie being Yosuke's first friend when he moved). In fact, given how they are VitriolicBestBuds, they may be aware of this and the vitriol comes from the fact that they've met someone they could identify with so closely. Fanon takes it further and views it as BelligerentSexualTension, though given how [[ShipperOnDeck Rise assumed them to be a couple and paired them up together while Yukiko admits they'd make a cute couple]], some of their friends have this view.
* In ''VideoGame/Persona5'', the Phantom Thieves come together, united by ASharedSuffering and a desire to rebel against the powers that be and invoke change in society. Their numbers include the cat-like being who helps teach them the tools of the Phantom Thieving trade, a young man unjustly stuck with a criminal record from a corrupt politician, two classmates who were both victimized by the same abusive teacher, an art prodigy whose mentor and guardian plagiarized his work, the StudentCouncilPresident who had been forced to do dirty work for a less-than-upstanding principal, a {{Hikkikomori}} who had been gaslit by TheConspiracy into thinking she drove her mother to suicide, and the daughter of a business mogul who is forcing her into an ArrangedMarriage for political clout [[spoiler:plus the bastard son of the head of the conspiracy.]]
** The Confidants that the player can forge friendships with those who, like TheProtagonist, are outcasts who also harbor some dark secrets of their own. These include (but are not limited to) a BackAlleyDoctor with a bad reputation in the medical community, a single father who is ex-{{Yakuza}}, and a homeroom teacher moonlighting as an in-call maid.
* In ''VideoGame/Persona5Strikers'', Zenkichi easily bonds the most with Makoto as there are many similarities between him and her father (policemen who are single fathers after losing their wives), as well as Makoto aspiring to follow her father's footsteps.
* ''VideoGame/PretentiousGame'': Blue and Peach; it's mentioned in the second game that they share the same interests, notably wall-climbing. And even though the series never comments on the similarity, both Blue and Peach have also been hurt by a previous LoveInterest.
* Ahri and Yasuo in ''VideoGame/RuinedKing'' are both from Ionia and both deeply affected by their past - Ahri for killing a past lover due to her HorrorHunger and Yasuo for killing his brother and abandoning his home. Throughout the game, they realize they need to move on from their past and not let past sins control who they are now in the present and they bond quite closely because of it.
* ''VideoGame/SlyCooper'' shows Bentley and Penelope to be this. Both are glasses-wearing techno geniuses with a strong desire to use their skills to improve society and are both secretly quite competent fighters. Even Sly agrees, pointing out that they're made for each other and he even envies their relationship, which contrasts with [[SlapSlapKiss him and Carmelia]]. [[spoiler:But alas, in ''VideoGame/SlyCooperThievesInTime'', it's exploited and subverted on Penelope's part as it turns out that she is actually Bentley's EvilCounterpart and ShadowArchetype. Similar to Hans in ''[[WesternAnimaion/Frozen2013 Frozen]]'', Penelope faked her romance with Bentley to get his trust and skills to develop weapons of mass destruction for profit, and then TakeOverTheWorld, her real goal. Also, when she reveals her true colors, their similarities turn out to be either superficial (Penelope being a ruthless and power-hungry woman, while Bentley would rather share his life with his sworn brothers Sly and Murray) or feigned on her part (Penelope couldn't care less about Bentley's feelings or goals, and feels that she owns him)]].
* In ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles3'', the six protagonists are matched into three pairings after becoming Ouroboros. Of these pairings, [[TheBigGuy Lanz]] and [[PintSizedPowerhouse Sena]], the most physically powerful of their respective sides, seem the quickest of everyone to bond with one another, even in the face of Lanz's initial distrust of the Agnian party members. Both are revealed to be insecure despite their bravado and [[https://youtu.be/odNyB8HmxU0 resolve to grow together to overcome it]].

[[folder:Visual Novels]]
* ''VisualNovel/CafeEnchante'':
** Kotone and Rindo bond over the fact that they are the only humans in the café. In Rindo's route, they bond more when Kotone finds out that Rindo is a great cook like her.
** Both Kotone and Canus enjoy gardening. One date has them going to the flower shop.
** Aside from sharing a passion for coffee, Kotone is surprised and delighted to find out that she and Misyr like to read.
* ''VisualNovel/CollarXMalice'':
** Ichika and Enomoto are both [[BadLiar Bad Liars]] and tend to wear their heart on their sleeves.
** Both Yanagi and Ichika are great cooks and both are similar aspirations to protect Shinjuku and its people and return the city to its normal everyday life.
* In ''VisualNovel/DaughterForDessert'', this is the basis for pairing off the protagonist with Heidi. Both have been responsible owners of small restaurant-like businesses.
* There are two possible pairings for the protagonist of ''VisualNovel/DoubleHomework'' that are this:
** The protagonist and Tamara are both strong skiers who enjoy shit-talking each other.
** The protagonist and Rachel don’t do too much shit-talking with each other, but they’re also skiing rivals for the Olympic Games.
* In ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'', it's implied that some Masters will receive Servants similar to themselves; For example, our hero Shirou has ChronicHeroSyndrome, and his Servant Saber [[spoiler:aka Arthuria Pendragon]] in life sacrificed everything, even her emotional state as a human, for her country. In the prequel ''Literature/FateZero'', the serial killer Ryuunosuke Uryu ends up paired with the demon-summoning Caster [[spoiler:aka Gilles de Rais]], who enjoys killing just as much as his Master does. However, there are ways to get around this- the more adept mages of ''Zero'' are able to summon specific spirits by using specific items closely related to the Hero, leading to the arrogant and scheming Lord El-Melloi summoning the honorable knight Lancer, or TokenMiniMoe Ilya in ''Stay Night'' getting the mountain of muscles and rage that is Berserker, though that may be due to the Servants preferences - Lancer wanted a lord to serve and redeem his honor, and Berserker, in life, [[spoiler:was mind-controlled into killing his daughter]].
** ''Zero'' Caster's "Mental Pollution" trait makes him [[CloudCuckooLanguage mutually unintelligible to anyone who isn't equally depraved]], so being like-minded is ''required'' to work with him effectively. The same is true of other Servants with the Mental Pollution trait.
* In ''VisualNovel/TheGreatAceAttorney'', Ryunosuke and Lord van Zieks share some funny and serious similarities that the two of them initially protest rather violently when it's brought up. They both have a tendency to misplace their own things recklessly and they both [[spoiler: get implicated as the primary suspects of a murder they did not commit because they were found holding a gun near the dead body.]]
* In ''VisualNovel/IkemenSengoku'', the female main character and Mitsunari prove to be this if you choose Mitsunari's route. Both of them are kindhearted, [[{{Workaholic}} hardworking]] [[WideEyedIdealist idealists]] who want to solve problems through peaceful means instead of violent fighting and will [[TheFettered stick to their ideals through hell or high water]] despite many people viewing them as naive or foolish -- in fact, Mitsunari is pretty much the ''only'' Sengoku warlord who doesn't clash with the MC's beliefs and/or threaten to kill her at some point.
* At one point in ''VisualNovel/KatawaShoujo'', during Shizune's route, the two of them decide to play a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors to decide who gets to eat the veal cutlet bread. They tie. ''Seventeen times in a row.''
* The protagonist and title character of ''VisualNovel/{{Melody}}'' are both musicians, as is Sophia.
* In ''VisualNovel/SteinsGate'', the seeming opposites that are Okabe and Kurisu slowly start picking up on [[CommonalityConnection commonality after commonality]] until practically the only thing that separates them is that Kurisu ''[[ClosetGeek pretends]]'' [[ClosetGeek she isn't a nerdy,]] [[TrademarkFavoriteFood Dr. Pepper-guzzling,]] [[NoSocialSkills socially inexperienced,]] {{tsundere}} [[Website/FourChan 2channer]] [[NerdsAreVirgins who's never been on a date]] [[LabcoatOfScienceAndMedicine and has a fondness for labcoats]].
* Arsenik and Ambrosia in ''VisualNovel/War13thDay''. He's a refined gentleman, she's an elegant lady. The [[PrincelyYoungMan Prince Charming]] to her DamselInDistress. [[spoiler:But you can't entirely trust the game's portrayal of them]].

[[folder:Webcomics]]
* In Creator/AGnosis works, Persephone and Hades are this. They both hate social gatherings (and most people), like to have lots of alone time, and have shades under their eyes. Their romance becomes evident to other people when Persephone says she thinks Hades is "okay". With his high praise, coming from her.
* In ''Webcomic/DearChildren'', as befitting its protagonists being a group of teenage misfits, in some cases, there are obvious similarities between characters which make close friendship and even romance plausible.
** Emma and Josh share a love of puns; Emma is more compulsive about it, but Josh clearly finds her puns funny and sometimes puns right back at her; Josh also gives his animals punny names. Emma and Josh are also both very fond of animals; Emma keeps multiple cats in her house, and other pets in her room; Josh makes pets out of many of his farm's livestock.
** Chelle, Emma, and Josh are highly intelligent: Chelle excels at verbal/reading/writing skills; Emma at mathematical and probably spatial reasoning; Josh at social skills and animal handling.
** Devin and Gabe are both natural detectives, possessing significant deductive and research skills.
** Cailin and Gabe share a love of fantasy, which Cailin expresses as an obsession with ghosts, and Gabe of anime/manga (they are both fans of Japanese series about the supernatural).
* In ''Webcomic/ElGoonishShive'', Elliot and Ashley are both {{Adorkable}} {{Extreme Doormat}}s who have a lot of trouble voicing what they're actually feeling.
* ''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}'':
** Rose and Kanaya are both very intelligent, classy, snarky women who have a tendency to cover up their own emotions but are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves. [[spoiler:And indeed, later on they do get together]].
** Roxy and John are both goofy, fun-loving, unironically cheerful, and loyal leaders of their respective teams. [[spoiler:They're also the only survivors of the Game Over Timeline, and seem to get together in the aftermath]].
* ''Webcomic/MagickChicks'': Faith and her boyfriend, Ash, are so much alike that they're virtually one and the same:
** For starters, they're the alphas at their respective schools. She's a LovableAlphaBitch, while he's a LovableRogue, and both [[AFatherToHisMen look after their fellow students]]. They're also prone to making [[http://www.magickchicks.com/strips-mc/dusky_hot_sister the same]] [[http://www.magickchicks.com/strips-mc/clever_girl mistakes]], since both rely on [[http://www.magickchicks.com/strips-mc/self-involved on reading]] [[http://www.eeriecuties.com/strips-ec/top_of_my_class others]] in order to anticipate their opponents' actions.
** They even share the same open view on dating, to where each knows the other sees other people and [[http://www.magickchicks.com/strips-mc/stop_teasing they're both okay with it]]; even while they're banging each other! They've even fallen in love with the same girl: Tiffany Winters. Which is why Faith [[OneTrueThreesome proposed they form]] [[http://www.magickchicks.com/strips-mc/take_things_slow a threesome]].
* Yun-lee and Dong-whi in ''Webcomic/NineteenTwentyOne'' are both mad about cats and looking after the local strays.
* ''Webcomic/QuestionableContent'': Once Marigold and Dale got over their [[VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft WOW-faction-related]] [[SeriousBusiness mutual enmity]], they realized a mutual attraction and [[OccidentalOtaku many shared interests]] and began dating.
** The enmity briefly returned when they chose different teams in ''VideoGame/PokemonGo''.
* {{Discussed|Trope}} and {{subverted|Trope}} in ''Webcomic/SaturdayMorningBreakfastCereal'''s "Uncomfortable Truthasaurus!" by Zach Weiner. Misconception: Opposites attract or like attracts like. Somehow you get both of these. The truth is that [[spoiler:95% of people want someone hot. 100% of people just want anyone with a higher social status]].
* ''Webcomic/StandStillStaySilent'': Tuuri, the scholar of the crew, is originally the only member who is not TheImmune. Her backstory includes being kept inside her home military base by her older brother for eleven years, while her immune cousin got to scout the wilderness. Because of this, she JumpedAtTheCall when offered to be part of the expedition by an older distant cousin. The second non-immune of the cast comes in the form of LittleStowaway Reynir. The chain of events that made Reynir end up inside the crew's food crate includes being sheltered into staying in his home farm by his parents, all while having siblings who were immune proto-DesignerBabies and having a great time in the wider world as far as he was concerned. He eventually decided to go see it for himself. Reynir and Tuuri ultimately become good friends.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Original]]
* ''Website/NotAlwaysRight'': A rather disgusting example [[http://notalwaysright.com/life-is-stranger-than-the-fiction-section/30405 here]]. A woman urinates on the floor and smears her feces onto several books when she doesn't get her way. Her boyfriend does the same when the police arrest her.
* ''WebVideo/PiratesSMP'': Water bonds with and falls for the bard NPC Jeffery over their shared [[ElegantClassicalMusician love for music]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* Finn and Marceline from ''WesternAnimation/AdventureTime'' are a non-romantic example; who both enjoy adventure and edgy lives.
* ''WesternAnimation/AngelsFriends'' has [[FemaleAngelMaleDemon Raf and Sulfus]], who have determined to become normal humans and live on Earth together. They can keep their secrets with each other and also, they both attract the opposite genders due to their good looks.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Arcane}}'':
** [[TomboyAndGirlyGirl Vi and Caitlyn]]. Initially, it seems that the two fit the OppositesAttract mold given their contrasting backgrounds, dissimilar temperaments, and surface-level opposing differences. And the couple even believes they would have nothing in common when they first meet. However, as they spend more time together and their relationship grows, it becomes increasingly evident how very much alike the duo are - In general, both of them are noble, brave, loyal, selfless, protective, and ultimately good-hearted individuals; have been in different types of isolation (Vi was unjustly sent to prison as a teen; Caitlyn has been [[AllOfTheOtherReindeer ostracized]] from her peers and her parents, especially her mother, want her in a metaphorical GildedCage); they each value trust in whatever relationship they have; highly skilled in their respective areas (Vi with boxing; Caitlyn with marksmanship); are often unfairly judged by others because of their backgrounds (Vi is thought of as just a lowly criminal; Caitlyn is thought of as an entitled RichBitch); and both are actively determined to rid Zaun of the unfair and brutal treatment from within (i.e., Silco, Sevika) and Piltover's corrupt government.
** Viktor and Jayce are able to quickly form a connection over feeling overlooked despite their qualifications.
** On a darker note, [[spoiler: Victor's intellect and illness as a child left him isolated from his peers and lonely, which Singed cites as a reason ''they'' get along]].
* ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'':
** Aang and Katara's romance is highlighted by their likenesses. Both are extremely optimistic people who keep that outlook while also becoming more realistic due to CharacterDevelopment. They are [[ChildProdigy child prodigies]] in their own field (Aang in Airbending and becoming the youngest Fully Realized Avatar, Katara becoming a Waterbending master at only 14). They have a ChronicHeroSyndrome tendency, are [[NiceGuy incredibly nice individuals]], but can be [[BewareTheNiceOnes terrifying when pushed too far]]. They even share a similar trait of being more [[ItsAllAboutMe selfish]] when it comes to a personal topic.
** A platonic example with Zuko and Sokka. Both are good leaders and strategists who feel the need to please their respective fathers, and both use swords. At one point, they discuss their mutually poor track record with relationships to break an awkward silence.
** Zuko and Mai somehow manage to be this ''and'' OppositesAttract at the same time. While they're both [[PerpetualFrowner perpetually frowning]] {{Emo Teen}}s with [[FreudianExcuse some kind of family issue]] who are from the Fire Nation and use bladed weapons, their temperaments are completely opposite: Zuko is a HotBlooded {{Determinator}}, whereas Mai is an {{emotionless|Girl}} DefrostingIceQueen.
** Zuko and Katara are a non-romantic example of this. Both are passionate, determined individuals willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish their goals, whether it be capturing the Avatar or helping him. Both are also shown to be pretty evenly matched in terms of bending abilities, and the few times they are actually on the same side/not angry at each other they work very well together and get along extremely well, showcased best in the finale.
** Zuko with Toph. Both are stubborn and tough beyond reason, expected to fulfill their roles as nobility/royalty, and have some kind of family issue. Both of them also suffer from visual impairment (Toph is completely blind while Zuko has minor sight loss in his left eye) and have unusually good hearing. They're also similar in that they both learned from the original source of their bending arts, and as such both are very powerful benders. To top it all off, they're also both the first to use some sort of new bending technique--Zuko is the only human in history to have created dragon fire (in ''Smoke and Shadow''), and Toph is the first person to metalbend.
** With Aang, which makes sense as they are [[{{Foil}} foils]] to each other. Both are saviors of a sort ([[spoiler:Aang saves the world by defeating Fire Lord Ozai, while Zuko saves his nation from more war by taking the throne over his sister]]) who were expected to rise to impossible responsibility as young children (Zuko was expected by his father to be the perfect heir from birth on up, while Aang was expected to be a dedicated Avatar at age twelve). Both are also prodigies in their respective fields (Aang is a bending prodigy, while Zuko is prodigal with the swords. [[spoiler:He later becomes a bending prodigy after training with the dragons.]]).
** Despite being ''[[CainAndAbel very]]'' [[SiblingYinYang different]], Zuko's still this with his little sister Azula. Both are physical prodigies [[TheAce with the widest repertoire of combat skills in the show]], share [[AbusiveParents family issues and a dismal childhood]], have their own respective mental issues, are competent military strategists and public speakers, and would do anything for their father's approval. Both are also [[PlayedForLaughs hilariously socially inept]] and are the exclusive human users of colored flame--Azula's fire is blue, while Zuko produces dragon fire in ''Smoke and Shadow''. They're also two out of four (five if considering Ozai before [[spoiler:Aang takes his bending away]]) people who can manipulate lightning.
* Cricket and Gabriella in ''WesternAnimation/BigCityGreens''. He discovers she's a troublemaking prankster like he is, due to both sharing a similar incident, causing them to immediately hit it off with each other, and eventually begin dating as well.
* Jack and Maddie in ''WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom''. True, one is closer to Earth than the other (three guesses on who the obvious culprit is), but they both share a mad obsessive love for hunting/researching the paranormal field of ghosts.
%%* ''WesternAnimation/{{Daria}}'': Brittany and Kevin; Mac and Jodie.
* ''WesternAnimation/GoofTroop'' and its movies used this on several occasions. The episode "Puppy Love" involves ShrinkingViolet NiceGuy PJ getting into a TwiceShy situation with ShrinkingViolet NiceGirl Rose Deckenbloom (and if that weren't enough, both of them know how it feels to be belittled). The first movie involved adorkable Max falling for adorkable Roxanne and vice versa, and they are both socially awkward in exactly the same way. The second movie actually has ''two'' of these: PJ and Beret Girl, the cynical-but-sympathetic beatniks, and Goofy and Sylvia, the DiscoDan duo--and in both of PJ's cases, they shared a common taste in poetry too.
* In one episode of ''WesternAnimation/GravityFalls'', Soos meets a woman named Melody who shares a few of the same ManChild quirks he has. They hit it off and go on a date, and not even an attack by a {{Yandere}} computer program is enough to break them up.
* In ''WebAnimation/HappyTreeFriends'', Cuddles and Giggles both love the color pink, and both are really nice characters with hidden depths (Cuddles is rather rebellious, and Giggles gets ''pissed'' at polluters.) Plus, even for Happy Tree Friends, [[TheChewToy they die a lot]].
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Kaeloo}}'': [[OfficialCouple Quack Quack and Eugly]]. They're both much nicer than the other characters, [[NoRespectGuy receive little to no respect from anyone else]], and they're both [[TheUnintelligible incapable of speech that can be understood (Quack Quack speaks in quacks and Eugly speaks in indistinct mumbles)]].
%%* Kick and [[ActionGirl Scarlet Rosetti]] in ''WesternAnimation/KickButtowski''.
* In Episode 5 of ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra'', Bolin explains to his brother Mako why he likes Avatar Korra: "Korra and I are perfect for each other. [[ActionGirl She's strong]], [[StoutStrength I'm strong]]. [[TheLadette She's fun]], [[BigFun I'm fun]]. She's beautiful...[[BigBeautifulMan I'm gorgeous!]]"
** Though unfortunately for Bolin, Korra doesn't feel the same way. While she does care very much about him as a friend, her affections lie firmly with Mako, who isn't so different from Korra.
** It pays off better in Season 3 when Bolin meets Opal, Lin Beifong's niece, who's just as adorkable and kind-hearted as he is.
* In the ''[[WesternAnimation/KaBlam Life With Loopy]]'' episode "Larry's Girl", this is how Larry and Stacey fall in love. Stacey notices that Larry's just as big a fan of ''[[ShowWithinAShow The Charlie Chicken Show]]'' as she is, and he notices that she's wearing the exact same sweater of the show that he's wearing. Cue the both of them staring at each other [[WingdingEyes with big red hearts in their eyes]].
* ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'':
** Rarity and Spike both have issues with {{Greed}}, what with the latter being a dragon. Because Rarity is also the [[TheChosenOne element of generosity]], both of them have to overcome their greed for the other's sake. They're also both hard workers, are prone to LargeHam tendencies, are fiercely loyal to their siblings when it comes down to it (adoptive siblings, in Spike's case) and the comics reveal Rarity's worst fears are very similar to Spike's: being abandoned by her friends for not being "useful".
** In season 8, the stoic and dull Maud Pie who likes rocks has Mud Briar, who has the same personality as her, with his interests being sticks. In the finale, her jovial and hyperactive, party-loving sister Pinkie settles down and forms a family with the equally jovial and party-loving Cheese Sandwich.
* WesternAnimation/SheRaAndThePrincessesOfPower: Hordak and Entrapta look like extreme opposites - he’s a tall, straight-laced, bad-tempered clone of an unknown alien species while she is a small, cheerful human princess with a complete disregard for rules. However, they bond over their mutual loneliness, scientific interests, disabilities (Entrapta is autistic while Hordak has a degenerative disease), and rejection issues. During S4, both are dragged back to their original positions because they might be useful for the opposite sides of the war. Hordak has to fit in among the other clones again with all vestiges of his personality wiped out and is under the permanent threat of a new reconditioning; Entrapta has to fit in the Rebellion again and to repress her quirks to not irritate the other princesses, who haven’t forgiven her time in the Horde. [[spoiler: Things get better for her, but she is still has little respect and eventually bonds with an adopted clone called "Wrong Hordak" until the real Hordak returns.]]
** Catra and Glimmer have a lot in common, which explains how easily they bonded during their captivity at Velvet Grove. Both are smart but reckless, hot-headed, sassy and, although Glimmer is not as mean as Catra, she is not above using dirty tricks, too. Both have crippling unsureness mixed with a strong desire to prove themselves; and when they finally occupy a position of power, they don’t know exactly what to do with them, committing one wrong decision after another. And also, both feel amused at Adora’s antics, although they call them annoying.
* In the ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'' episode "The Last Temptation Of Homer", Homer meets Mindy Simmons, a new employee at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant who is a DistaffCounterpart of him, except attractive. But despite their attraction to each other, Homer decides to remain with Marge.
* In ''WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse'', Greg and Blue Diamond bond quickly over their mutual feelings of loss. Blue Diamond still mourns her sister Pink Diamond while Greg still mourns for Rose Quartz. Blue Diamond is so pleased by this that she decides to "rescue" Greg from Earth's destruction by kidnapping him and taking him to Pink Diamond's human zoo. [[spoiler:It's even more poignant since they are both actually mourning the same person.]]
* ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama'':
** Snarky rebels Gwen and Duncan become close after they discover that they share several interests in common (like horror movies). While they insist that they're JustFriends, their respective partners get incredibly hostile over it, resulting in [[spoiler:two break-ups and one hook-up between the Birds Of A Feather partners]].
** The nigh-inseparable couple of Geoff and Bridgette, both avid surfers and beachgoers with incredibly kind, forgiving, and laidback personalities. [[HairOfGoldHeartOfGold And they're both blond!]]
** Harold with Cody. While the two of them have never been on the same team or interacted much in the show, outside the show post-Action the two of them become very close friends (even founding the Drama Brothers with Trent and Justin). In ''World Tour'', Harold proves himself to be Cody's biggest supporter, going so far as to side with Heather in the finale simply because Cody had done so.
** In ''World Tour'', Alejandro falls in love with Heather - the only other contestant as savagely manipulative and selfish as he is. Their conversations are simultaneously flirtatious and [[SlapSlapKiss antagonistic]].
--->'''Alejandro:''' Together, we could take over the world!
* ''WesternAnimation/TotalDramaPresentsTheRidonculousRace'': Snarky, serious-minded, and stuck-up know-it-alls Emma and Noah develop a relationship while scatterbrained, energetic, and carefree fun-lovers Kitty (Emma's sister) and Owen (Noah's friend) befriend each other during the race.
* While they never got together, and firmly remain as JustFriends, this is the most likely reason why Rogue was attracted to Scott in ''WesternAnimation/XMenEvolution''. Both have dangerous, uncontrollable powers, both lived sheltered lives, and have an older sibling-like dynamic with younger students.
