->'''Abraham:''' Feigned frailty, no "En garde"... Have you no honor?\
'''Raven:''' The lives of my students are more important. Besides which, I ''did'' warn you.
-->-- ''Webcomic/ElGoonishShive''

Sometimes, you have a teacher who is not a [[SadistTeacher sadist]], particularly [[SternTeacher strict]], or overly [[MisplacedKindergartenTeacher nice]]. They are just a regular teacher. [[MoreThanJustATeacher Maybe]]. Until you threaten their students. After that you might want to start praying to whatever god is out there for mercy. You ''do not'' mess with their students. Getting away with just a lecture is not an option. Detention, even less. And don't even think about getting off with a warning. These are the teachers that make you wish they'd leave discipline up to the principal.

A SadistTeacher wants their students to suffer. A Badass Teacher wants those who make their students suffer to suffer. It is not uncommon for the same person to be both ("You can't do that to my student; only ''I'' can do that to my student!"), but if the Badass Teacher and the Sadist Teacher are different people, expect the two to have at least one confrontation over the treatment of their students.

Usually they're the NonActionGuy (or Girl) type, or a nerd. Often they're well-respected and popular with their students (though this isn't always the case). This is also common with [[EvilTeacher Evil Teachers]] who actually [[BecomingTheMask like their day job]]. [[OldMaster Anyone who runs a martial arts school]] is almost certainly also this trope, since their entire day job is teaching students how to fight anyway.

If a HippieTeacher or a MisplacedKindergartenTeacher is prone to this, [[BewareTheNiceOnes running away as fast as possible is probably a good idea.]] If the school in question is run by a church, it might overlap with BadassPreacher.

Usually not TruthInTelevision, as any real teacher who behaved this way would in most cases lose their job and become a FiredTeacher -- but see the RealLife examples below.

For the parenting equivalents, see MamaBear and PapaWolf. For an older sibling who acts like this, see KnightTemplarBigBrother. Can overlap with BewareTheNiceOnes, and occasionally BadassNormal in worlds with Supers. For a similar character, see BadassBureaucrat. Contrast SadistTeacher.

[[folder:Anime & Manga]]
* ''Manga/AssassinationClassroom'' features Koro-sensei, a nonhuman teacher badass enough to destroy most of the moon, turning it into a permanent crescent, capable of moving at Mach 20, temporarily cloning himself to teach his students individually at once, and immune to all weaponry besides a specific form of AppliedPhlebotinum. And his almost as badass class. Who are tasked with killing him. Because if they don't by March, he will destroy the Earth. If they do, whoever is responsible will get 10-billion yen, which equates to about 126-million US Dollars. The thing is, Koro-sensei is the best teacher these students have ever had...
** Later on, Tadaomi, their overseer sent by the world government, also joins in as their phys-ed teacher in order to sharpen their combat skills. They also get the help of Irina Jelavic, a professional hit woman and FemmeFatale to act as their foreign language instructor.
** At the end of the series, [[spoiler:Nagisa becomes one for a class full of delinquents]].
* ''Manga/DragonBall'' has no shortage of badass mentors. Master Roshi is one of the earliest and best known examples: he may be a [[DirtyOldMan lecherous geezer]], but he is also one of the oldest and most respected martial artists in the world, and the one who taught Goku and many of his friends the martial arts (in addition to basic life skills and arithmetic). Later on, Goku, himself, fills this role for Gohan, but not before Piccolo, whose [[SinkOrSwimMentor extreme teaching methods]] helped Gohan grow as a fighter, in addition to helping facilitate the now-former demon king's HeelFaceTurn. Come ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'', Goku and Vegeta take on new mentors in Beerus and Whis, a bona-fide DestroyerDeity and his angelic attendant (who is even ''stronger'' than Beerus, at that!).
* Colbert-sensei from ''Literature/TheFamiliarOfZero'' is a TechnicalPacifist and vehemently opposes war, but when the students are in danger, he kicks major amounts of ass.
* From ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'', Izumi "I'm a Housewife" Curtis. Endanger her students/child figures and you're in big trouble. ''Big'' trouble.
** ''Be'' one of her students and you're in even ''[[SinkOrSwimMentor bigger]]'' trouble.
* Kumiko Yamaguchi from ''Manga/{{Gokusen}}'' is the homeroom teacher for a delinquent-filled school. However, she's also the 4th Generation female heir of a notorious {{yakuza}} gang. Indeed, she does a lot to protect (and also correct) her students...
* Onizuka from ''Manga/GreatTeacherOnizuka'' is the epitome of this. The guy took multiple gun shots to save a girl that's been slandering him and threatening his job, dived off a building multiple times to save students, biked through a building with an impending explosion, ''forced'' a student to give up her death wish, and destroyed multiple gangs.
** The same author wrote a manga called ''Kamen Teacher'', which is implied to take place in the same universe as ''GTO'', and focuses on a teacher who dons a ''Series/KamenRider''-style mask in order to whip his class of delinquents into shape.
* Meisuke Nueno, better known as ''Manga/HellTeacherNube''. Harm his students, and it doesn't matter if you're a powerful ghost or demon. He ''will'' kill you.
** Ritsuko also qualifies: despite being absolutely devoid of spiritual power, [[spoiler:her SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome had her, usually portrayed as being scared to the death of even casual mention of the occult, doing what she could to protect a student endangered by an evil ghost until Nube came to rescue them both]].
** And of course, there's SexyMentor Minako-sensei, who actually ''died'' to save little Nube's life.
* ''Anime/KnightHunters'':
** In ''WeiƟ Kreuz GlĆ¼hen'', history teacher Fujimiya Aya is the only person at Koua Academy to stand up to the AbsurdlyPowerfulStudentCouncil when they declare their control over the school, rushing to the defense of one of his students when S Class calls out a manhunt on the boy. Of course, this is mostly because both Aya and the student are undercover assassins investigating the school, although Aya ''probably'' would also have taken action to defend other innocent students if it had ever come up.
** One of Aya's fellow teachers, [[GenkiGirl Asami]], is ''very'' impressed by how Aya stands up to S Class, and does her best to emulate him when she stumbles across a severely injured and obviously terrified student on the school grounds. [[SubvertedTrope It doesn't go well for her]].
* Aoki Daisuke from ''Kodomo no Jikan'' can be pretty badass when it comes to protecting Rin.
* Early on in ''Manga/TheLawOfUeki'', Kobayashi (pictured) demonstrates that [[ActualPacifist he may be against violence]], but if you threaten or harass his students, you will wake up in a lot of pain. Also, despite his love of justice, he is very mischievous...
* ''Anime/LittleWitchAcademia2017'', being set for the most part in a school that teaches magic, comes naturally staffed with at least reasonably competent witch professors, but Professor Ursula definitely takes the cake for measure of "most badass". She usually plays the part of a [[ShrinkingViolet meek, soft-spoken educator]], but will also effortlessly brawl giant monsters with her bare fists in defense of her students [[spoiler: and childhood friend turned BigBad]].
* Professor William James Moriarty of ''Manga/MoriartyThePatriot.'' He is violently protective of his students, and his default method of dealing with people who anger him is murder.
* Koumoto Akari, of ''Manga/MyMonsterSecret'', is the great-great-granddaughter of the school's Principal, the thousand-year-old demon Akane. Said demon is a recidivist troll to the students and occasionally goes on potentially world-threatening tantrums [[SweetTooth when she doesn't get her fix of sugar.]] Akari possesses SuperStrength and is pretty much the only thing in the world that can put her Akane her place; and the latter is very careful to not piss her off ''too'' much.
-->'''''"Carve this into your mind. The only one who's allowed to toy around with my students is me."'''''
-->--'''Akane''', [[spoiler:moments before slicing the addressee [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe in half with her bare hands]]]].
* The eponymous school of ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia'' is staffed primarily by professional superheroes, so naturally this trope applies to pretty much all of them, but All Might definitely takes the cake when the League of Villains break into the school and decide to lure him out by killing a few kids. [[PapaWolf All Might]] arrives on the scene and he is ''not happy'', proceeds to kick the ass of every villain standing (barring Tomura Shigaraki and Kurogiri) ''in seconds'', and then manages to inflict a NoHoldsBarredBeatDown on a Noumu (which was specifically created to defeat him, by the way), punching it so hard it becomes a TwinkleInTheSky.
** And before All Might showed up, Eraser Head pretty much took on the entire League ''by himself'', only to become overwhelmed by the Noumu, and when it was viciously beating him by crushing him, breaking both his arms and smashing his head into the floor, he ''still'' managed to stay conscious long enough to stop Shigaraki from disintegrating Tsuyu -- even Shigaraki called Eraser Head [[VillainRespect "so cool"]] for that.
* Basically every sensei on ''Manga/{{Naruto}}''. Especially Naruto's own sensei, Kakashi. Mess with Kakashi's students and he will ''end you.'' He's not called the Copy Ninja for nothing. Even when Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura get strong enough to take care of themselves and any threat that comes their way, he still protects them.
** Might Guy is perhaps the most badass teacher in the series. He isn't only TheAce and a ManlyMan, but he never loses a fight on panel [[spoiler:until near the very end (and even then he still almost won)]] and one-shots one of the strongest antagonists in the series.
** Special mention to Asuma as well, who took on a group of Sound ninja about to kill his student... and beat every single one of them in under thirty seconds. While still smoking.
** And poor Iruka, a Chuunin Academy teacher who in Episode 1 completely fools an AxCrazy colleague and protects Naruto... after having a giant shuriken (among other things) embedded in his back.
** Jiraiya. As one of the strongest characters in the series, he's badass from the word go; but its his students who really define him. [[TeleportSpam Namikaze]] [[TheGift Minato]], [[LaResistance Yahiko]], [[TheDragon Nagato]] / [[FallenHero Pain]], [[LadyOfWar Konan]], and [[AllLovingHero Uzumaki Naruto]].
** Tsunade too, as she taught Sakura and Shizune everything she knows and Tsunade is the WorldsStrongestWoman.
* Negi Springfield from ''Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi'' becomes dramatically more dangerous if his students are in danger. The same goes for Takahata. If there's a queen then Negi could be considered the king; after being impaled with a stone spear he collapses in a pool of his own blood. Then person that injured him turned his attention to Negi's student... and ''that's'' when he gets mad: he tears the spear out of his body and ''uses it to bash the guy in the head''. Also, keep in mind that he's only 10-years-old.
* Seki-sensei from ''Anime/OjamajoDoremi'' isn't just a BadassTeacher, she's a BadassBiker.
* In ''Anime/PokemonTheSeriesSunAndMoon'', Professor Kukui is a competent enough teacher that it's little surprise that he can battle quite well with them. While he doesn't usually do so, he and his [[NobleBirdOfPrey Braviary]] do save Professor Burnet from a ZergRush of Dragon PokƩmon. (And then there's his alter-ego as the Masked Royal...) Then again, the school he teaches at is a TwoTeacherSchool, so he has no competition for badass teacher.
* The titular character Heine in ''Manga/TheRoyalTutor''. He is well-versed in mathematics, history, chemistry, geography and several languages, despite having no university degree. He is also able to easily catch the already fast Leonhard on horseback who had a head start and when [[spoiler: Fuchs and his mooks threatened to physically harm Kai]], he was able to take care of them without breaking a sweat.
* Stewart, the agent posing as a teacher in ''Anime/SonicX'', [[BecomingTheMask fell fully into the role]] and did everything in his power to protect the kids, most notably throwing off his orders to protect them during Chaos' rampage. Not to mention the episode where he gets captured along with some of the kids, and has to break out and protect them.
* ''Manga/SoulEater'' has the Shibusen faculty, with Stein as a particular example.
* The ''VideoGame/TalesOfSymphonia'' {{OVA}} has a scene where Raine takes out Lloyd with a ''piece of chalk'' when he was sleeping in class. And it ''knocked him down along with his seat''. That or she caught him off guard. Kratos would be disappointed.
* Yoko Littner from ''Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann'' may be the queen of this trope, managing to defeat two [[HumongousMecha Ganmen]] with just her rifle and a hoverbike in order to protect her students.
-->"[[PreAsskickingOneLiner This will be on the test, so remember well]]. Don't wreck people's houses! ''([[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome strafes a Ganmen with over a dozen shots]])'' Don't take children hostage! ''(dodges the other Ganmen's attack)'' Don't threaten people with force! ''(finishes off the second Ganmen)'' That's it. Class dismissed. ''(DramaticGunCock, the Ganmens explode)'' You fail!"
* Kagami of ''Manga/UltimateOtakuTeacher'' is perfectly willing to risk his own life and freedom to protect his students' lives and freedom. Despite not being that willing to be a teacher in the first place.
* ''Anime/YuGiOhGX'':
** Chronos-sensei. Not only does he stand up to Camula to protect the other students who are carrying Spirit Keys (and most especially the pride of the school at the time, Kaiser Marufuji Ryou), but in season three, he puts himself in between his students and a rampaging horde of duel zombies, to delay said zombies and prevent them from stopping the students from getting to where they could get the help they needed to leave the desert dimension. And both times, he knew he was going to fail. He did it anyway. He has his bad points, but when his students are threatened, he will put his foot down (and then get knocked on his ass, but he doesn't let that get him down!).
** You might also include Samejima, the school's headmaster. He was the one who originally [[TheMentor trained Ryo]], and was presumably no slouch. "Presumably" because he never actually won a duel on-camera. But then, [[InformedAbility there had to be a reason]] why he was running this place and a monastery devoted to the Cyber-Style of dueling before that...

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* ''Franchise/TheDCU'':
** ''ComicBook/{{Batman}}'': ComicBook/{{Huntress}} is a crime-fighter by night and a high-school teacher by day. Just try to threaten [[MamaBear "her kids"]].
** ''ComicBook/BlackLightning'': Jefferson Pierce is a teacher in his day job, and spends a lot of time trying to defend his students from the dangers of the streets. Often in costume.
** ''ComicBook/GlobalGuardians'': Chaim Levon was a Jewish school teacher before becoming the superhero Seraph and aiding Superman to dismantle bombs in Israel.
** Wildman was the most fearless and ferocious combatant in Sgt Rocks's Easy Company. In the civilian world, he was a quiet and mild-mannered high school history teacher.
** ''ComicBook/WonderWoman'' [[ComicBook/WonderWoman1987 Vol. 2]]: Mnemosyne is a Themysciran philosopher and teacher, who is also an Amazon with all the training, speed, and strength that entails.
* ''Franchise/MarvelUniverse'':
** ''ComicBook/ThePunisher'': Frank Castle once went undercover as a substitute teacher in a high school to weed out a gang of drug dealers. He quickly developed this attitude towards the students he was teaching.
** ''ComicBook/SpiderMan'': Peter Parker was this for the brief time he worked as a science teacher at his old high school in ''ComicBook/TheAmazingSpiderManJMichaelStraczynski''. One cool moment is when he uses his Spider-Sense to catch a paper ball aimed at his head without looking.
** ''ComicBook/XMen'': The X-Men are almost always badass, and this extends to their teaching careers at the Xavier Institute as well. ComicBook/EmmaFrost in particular is very protective of her students, probably because two of her previous classes of students were murdered.
*** ComicBook/KittyPryde also becomes one for [[ComicBook/AllNewXMen the time-displaced original five X-Men]].
*** In ''ComicBook/UncannyXMen2013'', ComicBook/{{Magik}} also becomes one and has become more powerful.
* ''ComicBook/PS238'': The teachers are almost all retired superheroes. This follows logically.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comic Strips]]
* In ''ComicStrip/{{Frazz}}'', Mrs. Olsen saves one of her students, Gabriella, by knocking her out of the way of an SUV driven by a texting driver. Both Mrs. Olsen and Gabriella suffer a broken arm.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* In ''Fanfic/AmazingFantasy'', Peter is a former science teacher and ex-instructor at Avengers Academy who takes up the BigBrotherMentor role to a newly spider-powered Izuku. Being Spider-Man, Peter can wipe the floor with gangs of criminals that could seriously injure the average Pro Hero.
* In ''Fanfic/ABoyAndHisDog'', [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Captain Komamura]] takes this role to Ichigo after the later took all of the former's power when protecting his family from a hollow. Not only does Komamura mentors him about his duty as a Soul Reaper, but he also teaches him to make contact with his Zanpakuto spirit.
* Godzilla Junior becomes one in ''Fanfic/TheBridge'' after realizing Mariner Chibi Moon, a hyperactive fangirl he initially wrote off, was actually a lot like himself before he lost his innocence and becomes her sensei. Considering he's ''Godzilla'' and is a OneManArmy even in his unicorn form, this comes naturally.
* The highschool history teacher Cole Anderson in ''Bringing Me To Life'' off- and on-screen saves one of his students, Max Jameson, from [[TheBully Cecil]] and his {{Mooks}} Brandon and Dillon...then offers to teach Max martial arts to defend himself.
* In ''Fanfic/TheDarkSideOfTheMirrorVerse'', [[MirrorUniverse Mirror!Starlight Glimmer]] is this. Pinkamena describes her as a great teacher, and she is dedicated to helping others reach their full potential, but she's also TheDreaded and is implied to be extremely strong. Case in point, she mopped the floor with a stallion who was attempting to [[spoiler:beat up Rainbow Crash]] with little effort, and Fluttercruel at least fears the mare could [[MindOverMatter turn her into a pony pretzel with her mind]] if she felt like it. It's also said she trains ''Royal Guards''.
* ''Fanfic/FireEmblemThreeHousesFifthPath'': Byleth, naturally. Messing with her students is usually a good way to get the crap beaten out if you at best. She's especially protective because she already went through several of their deaths once and refuses to go through it again.
* ''Fanfic/FutariWaPrettyCureBlueMoon'' has Ami-sensei, who, despite her [[DitzyGenius ditzy]] nature and constant striving for a promotion she'll never attain, is a GadgeteerGenius who built a machine to communicate across dimensions. Oh, and [[spoiler:she's a retired MagicalGirlWarrior who's aware of the danger that her students put themselves in on a regular basis. When things get serious, especially when the DamselInDistress to whom she is an [[HonoraryUncle Honourary Aunt]] is involved, out come the plans, the super strength, and the friendship beams of death.]]
* Ellen Baker in the ''Franchise/HarryPotter''/''VideoGame/KanColle'' crossover ''Fanfic/HarryAndTheShipgirls'' is an English teacher at Yokosuka. One time, when one of the cultists who worship the Abyssals attacked her class, Ellen wrestled with him to buy time for her students to escape. After he stabbed her in her gut at least twice and threw her to the ground, she staggered to her feet, picked up a tree branch, and promptly laid into him. Let's just say after that, no one in the military asks if she is good enough for the kids.
* ''Fanfic/HarryPotterAndTheMethodsOfRationality'' features Professor Quirrell, who is as unlike his canon incarnation as possible. He stuns ''two hundred'' students with one spell to save Harry (ItMakesSenseInContext), can cast a Shield Charm strong enough to block fifty shield-breaking curses, glues bullies to the ceiling, and [[spoiler: has the Pioneer Probe plaque as one of his Horcruxes.]]
* In ''Fanfic/HorseshoesAndHandGrenades'', we have Chuta Ohsugi who is about the exact opposite than his canon portrayal. Instead of a ButtMonkey, we've got a determined man who is willing to go against the woman he crushed on (Sonada) with nothing more than a slipper and a costume glove, fight his chairman head on and even proclaim that ''he'' will be the next principal of Amanogawa High. Haruka Utsugi also counts as she's willing to fight off against [[TheDragon Leo Zodiarts]] with nothing more than a katana. In ''Month of Sundays'', Takashi Satake is also stepping up to be this.
* [[ExaggeratedTrope Exaggerated]] in ''Fanfic/TheNightUnfurls''. The teacher, Kyril, witnesses his [[TheApprentice students]] Sanakan and Hugh being incapacitated by Shamuhaza in battle. What does he do? He [[spoiler:[[MindRape Mind Rapes]] the being responsible for this to a FateWorseThanDeath]].
* In ''Fanfic/OhGodNotAgain'', [[spoiler: Sirius]] gets to become a Hogwarts professor. Yeah, you heard that right.
* While the teachers in canon are this, in ''Fanfic/RubyAndNora'' they are much more hands on.
* Jack [[spoiler:and Brick]] in ''Fanfic/{{Origins}}''. While they really do care about their students, that manifests itself in teaching them [[TrainingFromHell how to bring each other to death's door]]--''for real'' since bacta offers a massive healing boost afterward. They [[LampshadeHanging wonder]] [[TemptingFate what the point of all this is]] during a relatively peaceful time, until it turns out FasterThanLightTravel [[AlienInvasion has unforseen consequences]]...
* Furutani Katsuo, resident zanjutsu teacher and Yuzu's class advisor in ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6902577/1/Phases-of-the-Moon Phases of the Moon]]'' is this coupled with CoolTeacher. While he doesn't actually ''fight'' any of the people who bullies his class, he does make it very clear that he's firmly on his students' side, encourages his students (including ''Yuzu'') to beat up their opponents from other classes when challenged, and likes to remind people that he was once a seated officer in Eleventh Division. [[spoiler: And when Karin's class gets ambushed by Hollows in the living world while on a training exercise, he doesn't hesitate to fight in their defense, albeit in the background.]]
* Astrid in ''Fanfic/ProdigalSon'' is a very competent, tough but fair mentor to the children, having taught them fighting and survival skills with the knowledge that they will eventually be savvy enough to fend for themselves against their dragon enemy. Even when she has Snotlout take over for her to spite their parents for trying to force her to quite, she was able to remind them of the basic skills they needed to survive.
* ''Fanfic/RosarioVampireBrightestDarkness Act III'': In chapter 41, Ms. Nekonome bravely stands up to Kuyou of all people, reminding him that he is no longer welcome at Yokai Academy and ordering him to get out. While she does lose some of her bravado when Kuyou draws his sword and comes after ''her'', just the simple fact that she's willing to stand up to an anti-human KnightTemplar who needs ''very'' little provocation to [[PlayingWithFire reduce humans and monsters alike]] [[KillItWithFire to smoldering piles of ash]] in the first place qualifies her for this.
* Most of the teachers in ''Fanfic/SkyholdAcademyYearbook'' fall under this, Bull especially. When outside forces threaten their students and actively harm one of their colleagues, they join forces to take back the school. The badassery makes sense, given that the teachers are the inner circle of ''VideoGame/DragonAgeInquisition'' transplanted into a HighSchoolAU.
* ''Fanfic/TurningRedSecretsOfThePanda'': Catherine Moore [[spoiler:aka Xia Lee]] is the new biology teacher at [[WesternAnimation/TurningRed Mei's]] school, and is shown to be a competent fighter, able to go toe-to-toe with Jason's men. [[spoiler:plus, just like the rest of her female relatives, she can transform into a gian red panda]].
* ''Fanfic/WeissReacts'': All of Beacon's staff, including the almost-literally AlmightyJanitor Beth Lupin, and [[HeelFaceTurn Cinder]]. Yes, even [[CloudCuckooLander Peter]] [[GreatWhiteHunter Port]] and [[Manga/FruitsBasket Tohru]] [[BadassPacifist Honda]] count here. Not to mention the [[RetiredBadass headmaster]], [[TheDreaded Ozpin]] [[OldMaster himself]]...
* In canon ''[[https://parahumans.wordpress.com/ Worm]]'', Mrs Knott is a run-of-the-mill Computers teacher. In ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10286919/1/Recoil Recoil]]'', she's a formidable boxer and an expert sniper. Nobody better mess with ''her'' kids ...
* ''Fanfic/ZeroNoTsukaimaSaitoTheOnmyoji'' has, in addition to the canon examples, [[spoiler:Saito himself, after he becomes Professor of Magical Morals]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Live-Action]]
* Subverted in the film ''Film/BadTeacher'', where Creator/CameronDiaz plays it as being just as much a jerk to her students as she is to non-students.
* In ''Film/ByTheSword'', Max Suba, once he has Erin as a fencing student, is protective of her, and once she gets hurt, fights the already established badass teacher Villard over his teaching techniques and showing him just what happens if you are a ruthless sword fighter.
%%* ''Film/DangerousMinds'', with Michelle Pfeiffer.
* Played with in ''Film/GodsAndGenerals''. Stonewall Jackson was a FourStarBadass who happened to have once been a mediocre math teacher..
* David Niven's character in ''Film/TheGunsOfNavarone'' was a chemistry teacher turned explosives expert. He's never shown around students, though..
* ''Film/HarryPotterAndThePrisonerOfAzkaban'': He's [[JerkAss a dick]], but what does Snape do when he sees Lupin transform? ''Instinctively puts himself between an out-of-control werewolf and his three least favorite students.'' This becomes even more apparent when you take into account that [[spoiler:this was the same werewolf that had nearly killed him as a teenager.]] And he didn't even have his wand!
* Franchise/IndianaJones is never actually seen protecting his ''own'' students, but given he is a teacher with an extremely protective attitude towards kids, he probably counts.
* Principal "Crazy Joe" Clark, from ''Film/LeanOnMe,'' comes across as a SternTeacher, but in reality is a BadassTeacher for his entire school, chaining the doors during the school day to keep the students in and the bad influences out. Remembered largely for carrying a bullhorn and a baseball bat.
* ''Film/KindergartenCop''. Bonus for being played by Creator/ArnoldSchwarzenegger, PapaWolf extraordinaire in his movies.
-->"You hit the kid, ''I'' hit ''you''!"
* Australian zom-com ''Film/LittleMonsters'' has Miss Caroline become this when she has to save her kindergarten class from an outbreak of zombies while on a field trip
* Principal Duvall in ''Film/MeanGirls'' doesn't do anything typically badass during the film, but sometimes sheer presence is enough: looking at the man, especially when he's giving a stern lecture whilst wielding a baseball bat, just tell me you wouldn't a) hang on to his every word or b) not want to take him on in a fight.
* In ''Film/ThePrincipal'', James Belushi's character Rick, the principal in question, personally fights the GangBangers who are turning the school he's been assigned to into a living hell.
* In ''Film/SavingPrivateRyan'', Captain Miller's occupation back home is a mystery to his men. It turns out he was a high school English teacher.
* In ''Film/TheSubstitute'' movies, professional mercenaries infiltrate high schools as substitute teachers to weed out the crime rings keeping the rest of the school in fear.
* In ''Film/{{Warrior}}'', Brendan is a physics teacher who is also a MMA fighter.
* In ''Film/TheWrongCheerleader'' Coach Flynn (played by Creator/VivicaAFox no less) takes it personally when somebody threatens her 'girls'. She gets to chase down the BigBad, stun him with mace and follow through with a BondOneLiner. Definitely not a woman to mess with.
* ''Film/XMenFilmSeries'':
** ''Professor'' Charles Xavier. Specifically, with a doctorate in genetics. He can telepathically freeze entire airports full of people, co-opt the mind of anyone he can "see" and force them to be a perfect mouthpiece for himself, switch between bodies and even psychically control people if need be, despite the gravity of his puppet's own powers. And his strength has only increased with age.
** At the end of ''Film/XMen1'', Magneto asks Xavier what happens when someone finds out about his mutant school, and Xavier replies that he has a great deal of pity for anyone who comes to the school looking for trouble. In ''Film/X2XMenUnited'', he's proven right, when the teachers and caretakers fight side by side with some of the more powerful mutant students.
** Wolverine sarcastically claims to be an art teacher in ''Film/X2XMenUnited'', and serves as a substitute for Cyclops in ''Film/XMenTheLastStand''. [[spoiler:In the new future created at the end of ''Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast'', it's explicitly stated that he's the history teacher.]] Messing with the kids (particularly [[MoralityPet Rogue]]) while Wolverine is babysitting is a catastrophically stupid thing to do.

[[folder:Literature]]
* Creator/TamoraPierce is fond of this character type. If you're a character in one of her books who fails to take teaching seriously, you're probably a baddie. Specifically:
** Numair from ''Literature/TheImmortals''. He's very patient and does a good job teaching Daine how to train her wild magic, given that nobody knows much of anyting about it, but gods help you if you interfere. He'll demonstrate that he is, in fact, the strongest mage in Tortall.
** The rather similar character of Niko Goldeneye in ''Literature/CircleOfMagic'' as well. He doesn't go in for much combat, but he still has a temper that should not be crossed.
* Quiet, unassuming Mr. Tidwell from ''Literature/{{Animorphs}}'' is actually a revolutionary fighter who has a symbiotic relationship with the Yeerk inside his head.
* Miss Chadwick, the quiet math teacher from the Creator/AgathaChristie novel ''Literature/CatAmongThePigeons'', tackles a gunman in order to protect her fellow teachers and one of the parents. [[spoiler: She doesn't survive the experience.]]
* Miss Wilson in the ''Literature/ChaletSchool'' series. Leading a group of kids to safety through a secret passageway, with a gang of angry Nazis in hot pursuit? Pretty badass. Doubles as a MamaBear moment.
* Literature/CiaphasCain ('''[[TabletopGame/{{Warhammer 40000}} Hero of the Imperium!]]''') eventually gets to retire from [[AccidentalHero inadvertently]] being a [[BadassNormal Badass Commissar]]... in order to teach [[GenerationXerox another]] generation of [[BadassBureaucrat Commissars]]. The Imperium is [[InvokedTrope naturally expecting]] this trope to come into play, even before he starts working with three ''more'' Badass Teachers in order to protect the planet from an arm of the [[OhCrap 13th Black Crusade]].
* ''Literature/{{Discworld}}'':
** Susan Sto Helit becomes one of these in ''Literature/ThiefOfTime''.
** From ''Literature/InterestingTimes'', Ronald "Teach" Saveloy, a retired schoolteacher and member of Cohen the Barbarian's Silver Horde. (At the end, he even goes berserk. After he's been mellow all his life).
** And the Assassins' Guild School has a staffroom full of teachers who have ''all'' inhumed people at least once. When people stop and think about it, having killed somebody is, implicitly, an entry requirement for the job. ''And'' they are allowed to openly carry weapons in the classroom.
* ''Literature/TheDresdenFiles'', Has a few examples.
** Harry Dresden himself once he takes on Molly as his apprentice.
*** Molly's teacher in ''Literature/GhostStory'' and ''Literature/ColdDays'' is none other than [[spoiler: Leanansidhe, who is second only in power to Queen Mab in the Winter Court]]
** Harry's second Teacher and [[spoiler: Grandfather]] Ebenezer [=McCoy=]. This is the guy who's responsible for [[spoiler: Krakatoa, the New Madrid Earthquake, and Tunguska, amongst others]]. He's mastered the ColonyDrop, and if you mess with [[spoiler: his grandson]], he ''will'' [[NotHyperbole drop a satellite on your head]].
** There is Odin who is hinted to have been the teacher of the [[spoiler: Original Merlin]]. He's also [[spoiler: a BadassSanta, and mentors Harry]].
* In ''[[Literature/LittleHouseOnThePrairie Farmer Boy]]'', Almanzo's teacher, Mr. Corse, is soft-spoken and rather on the smallish side. The oldest students in the school have a tradition of beating teachers nearly to death and breaking up the school--which tradition Mr. Corse proceeds to break by driving the boys out of the school with a blacksnake whip. The description of the damage he does and his complete lack of mercy is quite disturbing--particularly when he simply coils the whip after he's done and resumes teaching as if nothing had happened.
* ''Literature/DeGriezelbus'': In the third book, Mister Jacques is initially a DistressedDude after he's captured by Beentjes. When he hits his RageBreakingPoint, he breaks free, smashes Beentjes, and destroys the computers that are keeping his students captive.
* Most of the teachers in ''Literature/HarryPotter'';
** Mad-Eye Moody who became the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in ''[[Literature/HarryPotterAndTheGobletOfFire Goblet of Fire]]'' would be the straightest example. Both, [[spoiler: the real Moody, even though he never gets a chance to actually be a badass while a teacher, and the fake Moody, who manages to do a great job of impersonating a badass]].
** Dumbledore gets special mention, as the one and only time he rebuked Professor Umbridge was when she started physically attacking one of his students. And the one and only time he ever got angry with Harry Potter was when Harry thoughtlessly suggested that Dumbledore was leaving the school unprotected. There is also his UnstoppableRage when a bunch of Dementors showed up at a Quidditch match. And when [[spoiler:fake Moody]] tries to kill Harry, our hero (along with, by extension, the readers) sees exactly why Dumbledore is the only wizard that Voldemort ever feared.
** As does [=McGonagall=]. Mess with her, and you get a disapproving glare. Mess with one of her students or colleagues, and she takes [[CombinedEnergyAttack ''four'' Stunners]] to the chest ''[[NeverMessWithGranny at age seventy]]'' and bounces back with only a walking stick to show she was hospitalized for a month. And Madam Pomfrey claims that the four people that are basically the wizard equivalent of a SWAT team would have had ''no chance in hell of taking her in a straight fight'' if they hadn't turned around and sucker punched her. Then, for an encore, she and Slughorn help an Auror take on [[BigBad Voldemort himself]] and live to tell about it, something that very few people have done.
*** Almost all of [=McGonagall=]'s interactions with Umbridge in ''[[Literature/HarryPotterAndTheOrderOfThePhoenix Order of the Phoenix]]'' qualify as this. She repeatedly mocks or snarks at Umbridge, who could fire her with a word to Fudge if she wished, and encourages Peeves to screw with her. And when Umbridge starts trying to pick on Harry and the other students, [=McGonagall=] does her best to stop her or thwart her.
** Severus Snape. He was [[spoiler:a spy for Dumbledore, could fly without a broom, and during his spying days he lied to Voldemort's face for years]]. And he was an innovator, too. [[spoiler:He is in fact the Half-Blood Prince who was behind a number of innovative and sometimes ''nasty'' spells.]] And when he actually ''does'' teach, once you get past his {{Jerkass}}ery, he is ''focused''; he teaches with a purpose.
** Lupin also deserves a mention, being the only member of the Order of the Phoenix other than Dumbledore to survive the battle in the Department of Mysteries unscathed. He also happened to be the first ''competent'' Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher that Harry ever had--and in order to ''be'' a competent Defense teacher, this trope is practically a job requirement. There's a reason that the three best Defense instructors Harry ever had are on this list.
** Most, if not all, of the teachers [[LetsGetDangerous get dangerous]] in the Battle of Hogwarts in the [[Literature/HarryPotterAndTheDeathlyHallows final book]], using their significant magical knowhow to great effect. There's a reason that Hogwarts is often called "the safest place to keep something".
* In ''Literature/HeraldsOfValdemar'' most of the teachers at the Collegia are this. Especially the Herald ones, but a good chunk of the Bardic and even Healer teachers are not ones to mess with. Heralds just stand out because not only do they teach they ''do''.
** Special mention goes to Alberich. Old, battle and fire scared warrior long before he even became a Herald. He's the only one to escue Herald White and is the resident Weaponmaster. He teaches the student how to fight and survive in a SternTeacher fashion. Because his teachings will not only save the lives of those the Heralds rescue but themselves. Also, should note that ''only with a handicap'' can anyone defeat him in a one-on-one battle.
* ''Literature/HereticalEdge'': Being a BadassTeacher is practically a job requirement ot be hired at Crossroads Academy, which is staffed by often centuries-old monster hunters.
* The Goldfish Robot in Sophia McDougall's ''Mars Evacuees'' is a Sadist and Misplaced Kindergarten Teacher, but when its students are endangered, it flies into battle against any danger without hestitation.
* ''Literature/PercyJacksonAndTheOlympians'':
** Paul Blofis, Percy's step-father and English teacher proves to be this in the final book [[spoiler: when he stabs a monster with a sword and brushes it off as 'having done fencing in college.']] Then again he had to be pretty badass just marry a woman whose son is half god in the first place.
** There's also Mr. Brunner (who is present throughout the entirety of Literature/TheCampHalfBloodSeries), willing to defend his students at any cost, even fighting the [[BigBad Titan King Kronos]] himself. Then again, him being [[OurCentaursAreDifferent the ancient centaur Chiron]] helps with that. He's also the closest thing the series has to a BigGood.
* Many of the mentors in various fields in ''Literature/RangersApprentice'' are badasses, but special mention has to go to Halt, a LivingLegend BadassNormal whose [[DeadpanSnarker wit]] is as sharp as his [[ImprobableAimingSkills arrows]]. Mess with [[LikeASonToMe Will]] or [[NiceGuy Horace]], and ''you will regret it.''
* Literature/SherlockHolmes' ArchNemesis Professor Moriarty who is this, while being a ChessMaster.
* In the ''Series/StarTrekDeepSpaceNine'' novel "Fallen Heroes", schoolteacher Keiko O'Brian [[HeroicSacrifice holds off]] the marauding Bekkir long enough for Jake and Nog to escape. [[spoiler: It gets {{Reset Button}}ed, but it was still pretty awesome.]]
** This also qualifies as a MamaBear moment, because Keiko's primary motivation was to protect her daughter Molly who was also with Jake and Nog.
* ''Literature/TalesOfTheAstonishingBlackSpark'' Has Nikolas Tess, who having the same powers over electricity as the titular hero trains him in both utilizing the ability, and getting his butt kicked.
* The short story ''This Year's Class Picture'' by Creator/DanSimmons has one of these who actually teaches a class of zombies after the ZombieApocalypse, and sits in a bell tower daily to mow down zombies invading her school. When the outside zombies mob together to attack her '''zombie''' schoolchildren, she burns them alive in a freakin' gasoline moat.
* ''Literature/TimeScout'': Kit and Malcolm take it upon themselves to manage Margo's education in badassery. They hire Ann and Sven as tutor's for guns and close-quarters combat; two separate sub-badassitudes, and not the sum.
* ''Literature/TunnelInTheSky'' has Deacon Matson. Short an eye and some fingers and a decorated survivor of the first interstellar expeditions. That includes an award for being the sole survivor of a disaster. He teaches college-level survival to high school students and believes that, instead of the sissy method of giving them any desired weapon, the students should go unarmed to a hostile ecosystem for the final test.
* ''Literature/StarshipTroopers'' has Jean Dubois, Rico's History and Moral Philosophy teacher, retired Lt-Colonel in the Mobile Infantry, who lost an arm in combat.
* Dimitri Belikov from ''Literature/VampireAcademy''. A badass dhampir guardian who teaches Rose how to use a stake. Eventually fights in a huge battle against Strigoi and takes several down in the process. Characters outright use the word "badass" to describe him!
* In ''Literature/TheWitchlands'', Habim and Mathias, the protagonists' tutors, are both excellent fighters, and are both able and willing to cut throats and stab backs to help the girls.
* Sister Montoya from ''Literature/WorldWarZ''. A badass ''nun'' teacher, who went on to join the army when they re-organized to start fighting zombies effectively.
-->Five three and a buck even, she'd protected her whole Sunday school class for nine days with nothing but a six-foot iron candlestick.
* In David Klass' novel ''You Don't Know Me'' Mr. Steenwilly, the protagonist John's music teacher, is the only adult to notice [[spoiler:John's mother's boyfriend was physically abusing him and even took the initiative to follow him home one day. When the abusive boyfriend was beating John senseless, Mr. Steenwilly jumped in and saved John's life]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Live-Action TV]]
* Though she never actually takes anyone down physically, Laura Roslin of ''Series/{{Battlestar Galactica|2003}}'' probably counts, considering she is a political badass who used to be a school teacher and will airlock anyone she sees as a threat to her people.
* In ''Series/BlackLightning2018'', the titular superhero's day job is that of a high school principal.
* Harry Senate from ''Series/BostonPublic''.
* A sort of weird twist on this trope from Walter White of ''Series/BreakingBad.'' Walt ''is'' a registered badass, being a rising drug-lord and slowly amassing a criminal empire while on the surface being a gentle high-school Chemistry teacher.... but those two elements don't overlap. Walt sees teaching as a soul-sucking, miserable job he took only to support his family and clearly enjoys the rush and thrill of his criminal lifestyle much more. He couldn't give two shits about his equally-apathetic students, and is shown casually handing out failing grades and shooting down excuses for why they didn't study.
* Giles from ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer''.
** Technically he's just [[BadassBookworm the school librarian]], he doesn't actually teach any classes. Except private ones after hours about vampire slaying for a select audience, of course.
** Riley Finn was a badass TA.
** Robin Wood is a Badass school principal and son of a Slayer. Even Buffy is amazed at how capable he is.
** Miss [=LeHane=] worked as one, and did a pretty good job of it as well, trying to stop the school from being turned into vampires. She's the freaking [[TheChosenOne Slayer.]] She whips Drusilia without breaking a sweat. And she's savvy enough to do well on the teacher part.
* The Hoshikawa [[SiblingTeam siblings]] of ''Series/ChikyuuSentaiFiveman'' are all Badass Teachers.
* Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright from ''Series/DoctorWho''.
** Hell, the Doctor himself in the episode ''School Reunion''. And John Smith ends up being one [[spoiler: by sacrificing his life]] in "Human Nature"/"The Family of Blood".
** Danny Pink, former British soldier turned math teacher, [[spoiler: [[{{Determinator}} was able to resist being turned into a Cyberman]] ''after being killed'' and subsequently foiled the Master's latest plot to defeat the Doctor and humanity.]]
** Clara Oswald, who rides a motorcycle (which is enough to qualify her right there), steps away from her class because a paramilitary organization calls upon her whenever the Doctor isn't available, and is arguably the most powerful companion in the show's long history.
* ''Series/GameOfThrones'': Syrio Forel is Arya's unrivaled sword master.
* The protagonist of ''Series/TheGreatestAmericanHero''.
* Takeshi Hongo of Series/KamenRider would like to do a [[FinishingMove Rider Kick]] to the monsters who harms not just his students, but to those who harm other people as well. And he's a BadassBiker too!
* ''Series/KamenRiderFourze'', being a ''Kamen Rider'' series set in an American-style high school, naturally has several. ''Movie Wars Ultimatum'', which takes place five years after the end of the series, shows that Gentaro himself came back to teach at his old school and still becomes Fourze to fight the random monsters that crop up once in a blue moon.
* Al's grade school librarian in ''Series/MarriedWithChildren''.
* ''Series/NowhereBoys'': Ellen in the final two seasons.
* Tommy Oliver in ''Series/PowerRangersDinoThunder''. He doesn't ''want'' to be badass, he [[IJustWantToBeNormal just wants to be an ordinary science teacher]]. Nonetheless, he shows that he's more than willing to step back onto the battlefield after [[RetiredBadass years of retirement]] if his students are threatened.
* Santiago Mancilla in ''Series/RebeldeWay''. You don't mess with Third Year. Period.
* World History Professor Milton Fine, alias [[RoboticPsychopath Brainiac]] on ''Series/{{Smallville}}'' combines this with EvilTeacher and BadassBookworm for truly dangerous results.
* Most ''Franchise/StarTrek'' vets end up becoming instructors at Starfleet Academy if they aren't promoted to Captain in the future.
-->'''{{Website/SFDebris}}''': Our last stop's Reg, who has a special shuttlecraft waiting... Because why wouldn't he? He's a ''teacher!'' I remember when ''I'' took my first trip in the school helicopter. ''(contented sigh)''
* In ''Series/TeenWolf'', Ms. Morrell looks to be shaping up as one, if the end of season two is anything to go by, she's got ties to Deaton's past.
** Coach Finstock has a touch of this; ask the orderlies from Eichen House. Once they've stopped writing in pain on the music room floor.
* ''Series/TheTwilightZone1985'': In "Teacher's Aide", Miss Peters is possessed by the spirit of the gargoyle that sits on the roof of the tough InnerCitySchool where she teaches English. She goes from being a dedicated teacher whom the students don't respect to one who responds to any act of insubordination with violence. Miss Peters begins to worry that there is something seriously wrong with her because she can't control this behavior. When a gang member named Wizard plans to attack her, she [[SpiderSense senses the approaching assault]] and is able to defeat him. Miss Peter is about to kill him when she sees her reflection and realizes that she has now become a gargoyle herself. She is disgusted by her use of violence as she is not that kind of person. Lightning strikes the gargoyle and she returns to normal. Grateful to Miss Peters for not finishing him off when she had the chance, Wizard thanks her from the bottom of his heart and helps her up.
* ''Franchise/UltraSeries''
** The human form of Series/UltramanEighty, Takeshi Yamato, took teaching middle school students as his job. Considering what he can do in Ultraman form, it's not a good idea to threaten his students.
** Also, the original Series/{{Ultraman}} qualifies, somewhat. Not his human host, but ''Ultraman himself'', who was actually a university professor back on M78.
* In ''Series/TheVampireDiaries'' Alaric Saltzman, history teacher by day, vampire hunter by night. On a few happy occasions, these two interests have synergized when he finds old documents about vampires.
* Mr Rimmer, headmaster of ''Series/WaterlooRoad''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tabletop Games]]
* Creator/GamesWorkshop games:
** In ''TabletopGame/WarhammerAgeOfSigmar'' Ogroid Thaumaturges are highly sort after by Arcanite Cults, not only for their strength on the battlefield but also for their knowledge of magic and their ability to tutor the cabalā€™s members in the use of [[PlayingWithFire pyromancy]].
** In ''TabletopGame/Warhammer40000'' the Mentors Chapter of [[SuperSoldier Adeptus Astartes]] typically second their highly trained squads to other Imperial factions to act as advisers and tacticians, as well as teaching them how to improve their battlefield doctrine.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Video Games]]
* It's not touched upon much in the games, but Jeanne, who is every bit as badass as ''VideoGame/{{Bayonetta}}'' moonlights as a high school teacher when she's not doing her witch thing.
* Attack the Blood Raven initiates, especially the ones trained by ''VideoGame/DawnOfWar'''s Cyrus, I dare you. Even if you're a SuperSoldier enhanced with demonic power.
* ''Franchise/FinalFantasy'':
** The instructors of Garden in ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIII'' qualify for this. Case in point: [[CoolTeacher Quistis]] [[HotTeacher Trepe]]. How did she once assist her students on the field? By taking down the [[SpiderTank giant spider robot]] that's pursuing them with a '''[[GatlingGood gatling gun]]'''.
** Serah Farron of Final Fantasy's "[[VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII Lightning Saga]]" took a job as a teacher in the three years between the first game and ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII2''. She earned the nickname of "Meanie Miss Farron" for how she reacts to students not doing their homework. She's also an ex-[[TouchedByVorlons l'Cie]], which means that she knows how to [[MagicKnight use magic]],[[labelnote:*]]although she's only able to put that knowledge to use due to some temporal distortions[[/labelnote]] and she's currently living on [[DeathWorld Gran Pulse]], which means she's a [[TheStraightAndArrowPath crack shot with a bow]].
* ''VideoGame/FireEmblemThreeHouses'' is set in a military academy, so naturally, all of the teachers (including the protagonist themselves) are just as capable on the battlefield as they are in the classroom.
* The Didact from ''Franchise/{{Halo}}'' once taught at the "College of Strategic Defense of the Mantle", or simply the War College; it was in fact where he gained the name "Didact". He's also the leader of the Prometheans, the highest order of Forerunner Warrior-Servants, and one of the most capable warriors in the galaxy's known history.
* ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfHeroesTrailsOfColdSteel'' has a lot of badass teachers who work at Thors Military Academy; the principal is a retired FourStarBadass who uses a large spear, the school nurse is a FriendlySniper, the historian [[spoiler:is secretly the right hand man of the most powerful ChurchMilitant]], the math and science teacher is a powerful arte user in his own right, the military officer takes on robots with his sword, and the homeroom teacher of the heroes class is one of the most famous bracers of the empire. Combined with the off-duty Oroborous NinjaMaid who manages Class VII's dormitory, they managed to make a better showing for themselves in the final battle of the first game than ''the entire First Armored Division''. By ''Cold Steel III'', [[TheHero Rean]] ends up becoming this alongside Towa, Randy, Michael, and Aurelia.
* ''VideoGame/MassEffect3'': [[spoiler:Jack]]. Also a CoolTeacher, judging by her students' comments towards her.
* Cyrus from ''VideoGame/OctopathTraveler'' is a professor, and he's just as combat-capable as any of the other characters are. He has no hesitation when it comes to fighting any of his chapter bosses, even though two of them go OneWingedAngel.
* ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'':
** Professor Sycamore in ''VideoGame/PokemonXAndY'' is unlike any PokƩmon Professor in previous games in that you can actually challenge him to PokƩmon battles from time to time.
** In ''VideoGame/PokemonSunAndMoon'', we have Professor Kukui. First of all, he studies PokƩmon moves by actively ''taking'' them! Second of all, he's responsible for [[spoiler:having the idea of building a PokƩmon League in Alola]], and third [[spoiler:he's the final battle before you become champion! [[NintendoHard He poses quite a challenge at that]].]]
** In ''VideoGame/PokemonScarletAndViolet'', the various teachers of the Academy are all competent trainers in their own right. The most prominent examples would be [[PuttingThePalInPrincipal Director Clavell]], who has a fairly diverse team complete with the starter that's strongest against yours as well as art teacher Hassell, who happens to be a member of the EliteFour specializing in Dragon-types.
* Kogoro is Mii's tutor in ''VideoGame/ProjectXZone'', as he tutors Mii while doing his detective work at the same time. He's also her BattleButler.
* ''VideoGame/ProfessorLayton'': The titular professor, although we don't see a great deal of him interacting with his actual students in the archaeology classes he teaches, is certainly this for his apprentice Luke.
* All three teachers in the ''VideoGame/RivalSchools'' series -- Hayato Nekketsu of Taiyo High, and Hideo Shimazu and Kyoko Minazuki of Justice High -- exhibit this trope to varying degrees.
* ''VideoGame/TheSecretWorld'' features this in spades from [[TheWonka Headmaster]] [[BlackMage Hayden Montag]] and Ms [[HotWitch Annabel Usher]] of [[WizardingSchool Innsmouth Academy]]; both of them are trained mages with encyclopedic knowledge of the Secret World, so they're already pretty high on the badass scale, but the fact that they're staff members at one of the most disaster-prone schools in the United States just kicks their credentials into overdrive. Plus, Innsmouth Academy has recently been enveloped by the same catastrophe as the rest of Solomon Island, leaving the place infested with feral familiars and spectral alumni... and yet, Montag and Usher are still alive, still protecting their remaining student, and still weathering the storm. Plus, Montag has personal experience on killing familiars with "[[ShovelStrike a swift, decapitating blow with a spade]]."
-->A teacher is only as good as his tools!
* ''Franchise/StreetFighter'', being a fighting game series that takes place in a WorldOfBadass, has no shortage of badass teachers. In ''VideoGame/StreetFighterIII'', Ken takes Sean under his wing and trains him. Meanwhile, in ''VideoGame/StreetFighter6'', Luke fills this role for the player in World Tour mode (and by extension, every other member of the playable roster), as does Chun-Li for her adopted daughter Li-Fen.
* Raine of ''VideoGame/TalesOfSymphonia'' continues to teach her three students Lloyd, Colette, and Genis while they are traveling across the world on their quest. Then she fights monsters and bandits and half-elves and brings down holy light on enemies with devastating power. Her role as the group's primary healer further cements her as a ''BadassTeacher'', since she has spells that are used for the express purpose of protecting her students from harm.
* Keine Kamishirasawa of the ''Franchise/TouhouProject'' series. Half-Beast history teacher and protector of the human village. Best portrayed in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6oQkbJoRA0 this fanvid]].
* Lee of ''VideoGame/TheWalkingDead'' was a university history professor before the outbreak, and the fact he was convicted for killing a man should tell you he's not to be messed with.
* ''VideoGame/TheWonderful101'' features Mr. Wedgewood, aka Wonder Red and the leader of the eponymous heroes. The beginning of the game shows him getting separated from his students, and the rest of the game involves him rescuing them and saving the rest of the planet as well.
* Trying to attack a teacher or kill one of her students in front of her in ''VideoGame/YandereSimulator'' tends to be very, ''very'' risky. She'll pin the VillainProtagonist to the ground if she doesn't have the proper stats, giving the player a NonstandardGameOver. According to [[WordOfGod YandereDev]], all teachers at Akademi High were required to have self-defense training after an incident in 1989, involving the murder of one student [[spoiler:by Ryoba Aishi, who would become Yandere-chan's mother.]]
--> "Just what do you think you're doing?"
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Visual Novels]]
* Yui Shishido, or "Yui-sensei," from ''VisualNovel/CorpseParty''. What does she do when her students get trapped in a DarkWorld with seemingly no way out? She still tries to ensure her students' safety. When a ghost offers to [[DealWithTheDevil let her go if she sacrifices her students]], Yui-sensei [[DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu tells him to stay the hell away from her students]]. Keep in mind, at the time, she was also trapped under a cabinet filled with knives. Not only does she keep rejecting the ghost's offers, but she manages to free herself. [[spoiler:She even pulls a HeroicSacrifice to ensure that Yoshiki and Ayumi escape a classroom before it falls apart. Not only that, but it's revealed she's encountered Heavenly Host before, and ''survived''.]] Yui-sensei ''never'' abandons her students.
* Souichirou Kuzuki in ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' in the Unlimited Blade Works route. TheDrifter who randomly came to town prior to the story and stayed at the local shrine. Despite being a perfectly normal human, he becomes the suspect of who Servant Caster's Master is. Simple mission: shoot him with a sleeping spell. If he is the Master then job well done, and if not then no harm done. Of course this doesn't turn out well when Caster warps in and saves him. But the battle is on our heroes' side! They've got Saber, the woman who is the strongest Servant! She gets past Caster and goes for Souichirou! And [[spoiler:THWACK. Souichirou counters and proceeds to unleash a SpamAttack on Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar levels.]] Yes, Souichirou just beat up [[spoiler: King Arthur]] with his bare hands.
** Bonus points for in the 2015 version, he is voiced by none other than Creator/LexLang himself.
** And then if you think back a day or two ago, this means he was also the one who snapped [[spoiler: Rider's]] neck in twain.
*** Even after [[spoiler:Archer betrays Caster and kills her]], he's back to being a normal human, he challenges [[spoiler:Archer]] to a one-on-one battle despite knowing he's going to be killed in one hit.
** Although not on KuzukiĀ“s level, [[SenseiChan Taiga]] is a 5th Dan in Kendo (who could have gotten a lot further if her little strap on her shinai did not get her banned from most tournaments) and a swordsman on level with [[Literature/TheGardenOfSinners Shiki Ryougi]].
* ''VisualNovel/MagicalDiary'' gives us [[HippieTeacher Professor Potsdam]]. Sweet little old lady who calls her students such things as "starshines" and "cygnet" in utter sincerity, doesn't seem to quite get the idea of discipline...and is over six hundred years old, with all the power to match. When it comes to it, [[spoiler:Damien]] runs rather than face her on her own ground. [[spoiler:Not that she can keep him from coming back for the May Ball, if you decide to take him back.]]
* [[spoiler: Yumi Matsumiya]] from VisualNovel/TrueLoveJunaiMonogatari doesn't look like this, but fully shows why she deserves this title when [[spoiler: she and the MC find out that her fellow teacher Mikazaki is sexually harrassing Mayumi]] and when [[spoiler: a drunkard beats the shit outta the MC when he tries to protect her from him.]]
* In the opening of ''VisualNovel/{{Tsukihime}}'', Shiki gets visited by Aoko Aozaki, and by the end of their little sessions, calls her Sensei from then on. Cue ''VideoGame/MeltyBlood'', where Aoko is a KungFuWizard specializing in [[SlowLaser Slow Lasers]].
[[/folder]]

* ''Webcomic/DominicDeegan'''s Miranda Deegan. A very evil mage once killed several of her students to get to her. She banished him to a realm of MindRape.
* Sandaur'recherrai Val'Illhar'dro of ''Webcomic/{{Drowtales}}'' is the combat instructor of Orthorbbae and it is a simple task for him to beat just about any opponents with ease and more then willing to use a GroinAttack to do it. When his clan left Chel, he went with them to their home city of Nuqrah'shareh and taught the students who were there as well. [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7950 When he comes across a group of rebels attacking his students]], [[CurbStompBattle he charged in and killed all of them, unarmed, unarmoured and without taking a single hit.]]
* [[http://destinyfailsus.com/comics/17/#.T74DRcWFnCE Mr. Sly]] in ''Webcomic/DestinyFailsUs''.
* Mr. Raven in ''Webcomic/ElGoonishShive''. He happens to be the son of an immortal, making him very old and very dangerous. Good with a SwordCane, and can summon a flock of exploding crows. Another case of [[BerserkButton don't mess with the students.]]
* Part of what makes the Cyclone Crushers from ''Webcomic/FurryFightChronicles'' so dangerous is that their trainer [[spoiler:Freydar]], was a former Combagal who had the potential of defeating the strongest character in the comic.
* In ''Webcomic/GirlGenius'', the caretaker for the students on Castle Wulfenbach is Von Pinn. [[http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20040903 Don't mess with Von Pinn.]] It is not pretty.
* James Eglamore in ''Webcomic/GunnerkriggCourt''. As was [[http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=559 his predecessor]].
** Not to mention Jones, who mentors mediums and ''beat Eglamore in a sword fight while unarmed.'' By blocking the sword with her ''face''.
** Kat's parents are scientists at the Court and she follows their footsteps. Her mother built a magitek computer to trap a body-stealing demon and in youth was building robots.
* Largo from ''Webcomic/{{Megatokyo}}'' is a subversion,because while he tries to do this, he just as often leads his students into danger.
** Although the fact that he's teaching an English class in Japan and doesn't speak Japanese is interesting. But they're still learning somehow.
-->"Doesn't Great Teacher Largo make you want to learn English so you can understand what he's saying?"
* Sidney Burns of ''Webcomic/MobTies''.
* Any of the teachers in ''Webcomic/MSFHigh''.
* ''{{Webcomic/Paranatural}}'' has the history teacher and Activity Club's sponsor, Rick Spender. He's a melodramatic dork and his bio claims that the words athletic, mysterious, and intellectual have nothing to do with him. While that's accurate, he has been said to have [[CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass defeated the singular strongest spirit.]] [[spoiler: When he fights the fire spirit Forge, it's revealed that said strongest spirit has possessed Mr. Spender (note that possession just means that Mr. Spender has access to the spirit's powers and the spirit doesn't die; Mr. Spender is still in control) and can control shadows, which lets him [[http://www.paranatural.net/index.php?id=288 trap Forge in a pit made from the shadow of a tree, then obliterates his lower half by using his partner spirit Lucifer's light powers to erase the shadow.]]]] Another teacher, Mr. Garcia, seems to also qualify, being fairly physically capable and intimidating. [[spoiler: They're dating.]]

[[folder:Web Original]]
* [[Myth/EgyptianMythology Set]] is the Egyptian God of the desert, storms and violence. In ''Roleplay/IliadQuest'', he is also a master of Egyptian Pugilism. This happens to involve [[ImprobableWeaponUser copious amounts of sand.]]
* In the [[Blog/AskAPony Ask a Pony]] blog Blog/AskHoopsAndDumbbell, Dumbbell is a currently a [[BadassTeacher Badass Student Teacher]]. Before going for his Teaching License, he was offered a Pro Boxing position. It's been a few years, but he's still good enough to drop an unlucky mugger.
* [[EvilTeacher Coach Callahan]] from ''Literature/TalesOfMU''. Aside from teaching such mundane classes as "Mixed Melee" and "Fighting to Disable", she is also one of the worst war criminals alive today. In her past, she has committed multiple genocides, stopped giants from taking over the world more than once, and has been charged with multiple counts of attempted deicide (most nations do not have laws against successful [[KillTheGod deicide]]).
* The faculty of Beacon in ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'' are all skilled Huntsmen and Huntresses. The most notable examples are Glynda Goodwitch, who can repair entire buildings with a flick of her wand and can take down Grimm without even looking, Professor Port, who treats Grimm like any GreatWhiteHunter would, and Doctor Bartholomew Oobleck, who is a bit more bookish than the other two but can total MiniMecha with one hit from his mace/napalm launcher/thermos. The most badass, however, is headmaster [[Characters/RWBYOzpinAndOscar Ozpin]], [[spoiler:who puts up one hell of a fight against a Cinder who has the entirety of the Fall Maiden's power, landing multiple hits on her in quick succession]].
* Similarly, most of the teachers at [[SuperheroSchool Whateley Academy]] in the Literature/WhateleyUniverse, since many of them are retired superheroes. Even more frightening, some of them are retired super''villains''.
** Special mention may go to Mrs. Ryan, a kindly old lady who teaches Costume Shop I. She's very mild-mannered, knows her stuff, happily offers advice to any student who comes looking, [[spoiler:and used to be the notorious European A-List supervillain, Lady Hydra]]. Most students underestimate her once. Very few do so twice.
* In WebVideo/YandereHighSchool, the gym teacher, Rowan, is [[spoiler: a SWAT person. His wife, Okami, the main teacher is also on the team.]]

[[folder:Western Animation]]
* The Gromble from ''WesternAnimation/AaahhRealMonsters''. He is a SadistTeacher, but he'll also rain fiery vengance upon anyone who dares threaten his students.
* Brian Lewis, who for most of his screen time delves into MoralMyopia as an ApatheticTeacher on ''WesternAnimation/AmericanDad'', shattered a hot pot of coffee in Steve Smith's face when he learned Steve had just punched a very young exchange student everybody liked with absolutely no provocation.
* ''Franchise/AvatarTheLastAirbender'' franchise:
** ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender'':
*** The core of the Order of the White Lotus is made up of CoolOldGuy Badass Teachers: [[Characters/AvatarTheLastAirbenderGeneralIroh Iroh]], Pakku, Bumi, Jeong Jeong, and Piandao.
*** Also, [[spoiler:Gyatso, the ActualPacifist air monk. He took on a ''platoon'' of powerful firebenders, while they were juiced up on the comet that made each of them into a walking, talking, ''armored'' PersonOfMassDestruction. And killed. Them. ''All.'' As they brought him down.]]
*** [[Characters/AvatarTheLastAirbenderTophBeifong Toph Beifong]] as well. She joins the group in order to teach earthbending to Aang, and she's pretty much ''made'' of badass. She also opened up an academy after the war to spread her knowledge of metalbending, which she invented.
** ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra'': Aang and Katara's son Tenzin, the world's only master airbender. He shows himself to be quite badass, taking out chi-blockers and one of [[spoiler: Sato's mechas]] by himself, and has passed on his skills to his three BadassAdorable children. [[spoiler: Tenzin really turns it up when he takes on Zaheer, who has only been seen curb stomping opponents, and is able to hold his own against all 4 members of the Red Lotus until the finally overtake him.]]
* Laid-back HippieTeacher Mr. Van Dreissen attacks a guest speaker (somewhat wimpily) when WesternAnimation/BeavisAndButthead claim the speaker "touched" them.
** In a later episode [[DrillSergeantNasty Teacher/Coach Buzzcut]] walks in on the same speaker threatening the duo. Said speaker then unwisely attempts an attack on Buzzcut, an ex-Marine, who proceeds to beat the stuffing out of him.
---> ''"I do the ass-kicking around here!"''
** Van Dreissen's real SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome comes in ''Incognito'', where not only does he fail to show anything resembling fear when an unknown assailant shoots through the window of his classroom, after when Earl shoots back, driving the attacker off, Van Dreissen calmly confiscates Earl's pistol ''and Earl complies''. Sure it was supposed to be a satire about how desensitized to violence everybody has become, but it ends up making Van Dreissen look like a fearless BadassPacifist.
* The title character in the Pakistani show ''Animation/BurkaAvenger''- a schoolteacher who literally uses books and pens as weapons in the InUniverse martial art Takht Kabaddi to protect access to education and women's rights.
* In the ''WesternAnimation/CodeLyoko'' episode "False Start", [[ADayInTheLimelight Jim becomes one]], fighting [[BigBad Xana's]] monsters at Kadic while the regular cast battles the villain on Lyoko.
* The title character of ''WesternAnimation/{{Cybersix}}'', who's a literature teacher by day and a superhero by night. There's also her love interest, the BadassNormal biology teacher Lucas.
* ''WesternAnimation/ExtremeGhostbusters'': Professor Egon Spengler. Invented a portable nuclear accelerator; [[DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu punched out Cthulhu and other, similar deities]]; led a one-man charge against an ancient demon called Achira...and mentored a new generation of Ghostbusters.
%%* Master Hamma from ''WesternAnimation/JohnnyBravo''.
* In ''WesternAnimation/TheLongLongHoliday,'' Mr. Herbin [[spoiler:turns out to be Sparrowhawk, the local RebelLeader]].
* Ms. Frizzle from ''WesternAnimation/TheMagicSchoolBus''. C'mon, who wouldn't want to go one of her field-trips? (Besides Arnold, of course).
* The Flexer Teacher from ''WesternAnimation/{{Mixels}}''. She is serious when it comes to teaching, but will be first in line to protect her students from any threat that comes their way, and ends up being the leading Mixel in a [[FusionDance Mix]] that stops a rampaging Mixelopter.
* Principal Bump from ''WesternAnimation/TheOwlHouse''. When faced with a threat to his students[[spoiler:' ability to study different schools of magic]], his response is to ''lead them into battle''.
* Some of the teachers from ''WesternAnimation/{{Recess}}'' in ''WesternAnimation/RecessSchoolsOut''.
** Of the five named faculty, three were accomplished martial artists, one was able to use his Janitorial Supplies as Improvised Weapons, and the other one was a HippieTeacher as well as TheCutie, and showed a perfect example of BewareTheNiceOnes. The principal handled capture pretty nicely as well. Course, one scene had all the teachers rappelling into the cafeteria to help the kids in the fight against the BigBad.[[note]]Muriel Finster is an excellent boxer, Miss Alordayne Grotke appears to know kung-fu, and Miss Lemon - Principle Prickly's secretary - is a skilled nunchaku user.[[/note]]
** Especially effective in that of the four named faculty, two are the main antagonists of the series, one an ApatheticTeacher who wants nothing more than to move up the career path and stop dealing with children, and the other is the very essence of a kids show SadistTeacher. But if you mess with their kids, you're going down hard.
** One episode had a substitute teacher fall into this trope. The gang goes to school, expecting a free day, only to be greeted by a teacher, whom Spinelli describes, after seeing some of his actions, having "zero fear."
* Principal Seymour Skinner from ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons''. While more of a RetiredBadass and a ButtMonkey in his civilian life, Skinner is a Vietnam veteran and was a relatively successful military officer back in the day. While he usually goes out of his way to avoid conflict, he has no qualms about kicking serious ass if the situation (rarely) calls for it.
** Case in point, beating up the blue haired lawyer and two [[{{Mook}} hired goons]] after being threatened with a lawsuit over just a trivial copyright.
---> "[[BondOneLiner Copyright expired.]]"
* ''WesternAnimation/StarWarsTheCloneWars'': Anakin is this to Ahsoka. Pretty much any Jedi with a Padawan counts as well.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheVentureBros'': Professor Victor Von Helping. He is a CoolTeacher who convinces Dean to embrace science and take his botany class. The Monarch and 21, [[PunchClockVillain assigned to antagonize]] the ScienceHero, break into the classroom. When they declare their hostility, he flatly declares he [[{{Pacifist}} will not fight]] them. When they attack anyway, he [[NoSell does not flinch]] at a punch to the face or a GroinAttack. But when they threaten Sirena, it hits his BerserkButton. He stares down The Monarch with UhOhEyes and starts BurningWithAnger -- hot enough to [[ChromeChampion burn away his disguise]] and reveal the way he must have looked and behaved before his MeaningfulRename. The villains immediately regret their mistake, and only Dean's intervention spares them a serious beatdown.
--> '''Von Helping:''' Enough! Do as you like to me, but YOU DO '''NOT''' THREATEN MY STUDENTS! ... How do you like facing the full wrath of [[PlayingWithFire Professor Victor Von Hellfire]]?!
* Xavier, Wolverine, and Storm in ''WesternAnimation/XMenEvolution'', along with Hank [=McCoy=] who was pretty tough ''before'' mutating into a blue, furry form.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Real Life]]
* Drill sergeants in general.
* In the Finnish Army, schoolteachers are referred as reserve officers.
* Because of the threat of suicide bombings against a certain girls school in Afghanistan, the complex was walled with only one gate placed far away from the main school building. At this gate a single teacher would sit, watching the gate. If a suicide bomber entered the teacher would attack him and try to detonate the explosive, [[HeroicSacrifice killing them both]]. And if that's not badass enough, the teachers were 50 year-old women.
* [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liviu_Librescu Dr. Liviu Librescu]] of Virginia Tech, personally [[YouShallNotPass kept the door shut]] to prevent gunman Seung-Hui Cho from entering the classroom so his students could escape. It took [[HeroicSacrifice five shots to take him down]], the last one having to be a headshot. All but three of his students managed to escape through the windows of his classroom, with only one of the remaining students dying. Of course, he had a history, since surviving the Holocaust takes a {{Determinator}} in itself...
** The same can be said for the four other (murdered) professors who attempted to confront or stop Cho from hurting their students. Professor Kevin Granata had managed to get his class of 20 students into his office where the door could be locked. He immediately went out to investigate the shooting. Sadly he was shot and killed in a stairwell alongside his colleague Professor Wally Grant, who survived his wounds. Instructor Jocelyne Couture-Nowak, alongside student Henry Lee died attempting to barricade the door to her French Classroom. Graduate assistant Haiyan Cheng was substituting for a Professor, but managed to save his classroom as he and a student noticed the shooter heading for his classroom, letting the class barricade the classroom door in time.
* There is the Troops to Teachers program; former military members get certified to teach, then go to (generally dangerous) schools.
* [[OfficerAndAGentleman Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain.]] A university professor, he took a sabbatical to fight for the Union in the American Civil War, was wounded a half-a-dozen times, won the Congressional Medal of Honor for securing the crucial Union position on Little Round Top with a [[BayonetYa bayonet charge]], became a Brigadier General after he was given a few hours to live ([[NoOneShouldSurviveThat he got better]]), and presided over the Confederate surrender parade at Appomattox before returning to Maine where he served four terms as Governor and became head of the college and taught every subject [[EverybodyHatesMathematics except Math and Science]].
** For the Confederates, Stonewall Jackson was a professor of physics at the Virginia Military Institute prior to the war, and is widely regarded as the South's strongest tactician (although BunnyEarsLawyer also applies in his case, hindering his effectiveness as a teacher and his ability to work with other Confederate officers).
* Dr. David Benke, a math teacher at Deer Creek Middle School in Denver, tackled a gunman when he tried to attack the school. In a letter to the public explaining what happened, he wrote, "If we could have told the students what we felt before the incident happened we would have said, [[BadassCreed 'Not on my watch. On my watch you are going to be as safe as I can make you.']]"
* At a university-type MilitaryAcademy, many of the professors are usually commissioned officers.
* In Hanover, Germany, a 37-year-old kindergarten teacher named Ina Koenig saw one of her students fall down a mine shaft on a field trip. Immediately, she jumped in after him and kept his head above the extremely cold water at the bottom for two hours until help arrived, saving his life.
* The Sandy Hook shooting gave light to many badass teachers:
** Vicki Soto, a first-grade teacher, hid her kids in closets/cabinets and told the shooter that the kids were in an auditorium/gym. The shooter proceeded to shoot the teacher, but the kids survived. The mayor of Newtown wants to name one of the schools after her for her heroism. And she was all of twenty-seven.
** One of the teachers turned on the PA system to warn the rest of the school of the shooting.
** How did the principal die? She died lunging after the shooter, trying to stop him herself, probably knowing she was going to die.
* [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_Haining Jane Haining]] and [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sara_Salkahazi Sara Salkahazi]], two schoolteachers who died in UsefulNotes/WorldWarII for [[MamaBear refusing to abandon their pupils]], double as this and {{Badass Preacher}}s (Haining was a missionary of the Church of Scotland, Salkahazi was a nun).
* [[http://i1.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/074/285/professor_badass1.jpg Professor Badass]]. Otherwise known outside MemeticMutation as Kevin Stewart. And no, this isn't a photo shoot - this is how he rocks up to college on an ordinary day.
* Badass ''school receptionist'' in the form of [[http://www.npr.org/2013/08/22/214576953/911-call-captures-school-employee-talking-down-gunman Antoinette Tuff]], who managed to stop an ''armed gunman'' from hurting a single student. How? [[BadassPacifist By simply talking to him]], [[TalkingTheMonsterToDeath remaining calm]], [[ActionSurvivor and showing some compassion]]. She managed to keep her cool the whole time until police arrived, at which point she admitted to the 911 respondent (who had been listening in the whole time) that she'd been scared to death. Again, ''not a single person was hurt''.
* [[http://www.cnn.com/2016/01/26/us/indiana-school-bus/ Principal Susan Jordan]], of an elementary school near Indianapolis, Indiana, died on January 26, 2016 when she saw a bus suddenly jump the curb and was rolling towards two students. Without hesitation, she rushed headlong at the two children in harms way and pushed them out of the way while being fatally struck by the bus.
* Dave Sanders, the only teacher to die during the UsefulNotes/{{Columbine}} High School massacre. When the gunmen started firing outside the school, he ran to the cafeteria and sounded the alarm. He, along with two of the school's janitors, helped get more than 100 students out of the path of danger by herding them away from the shooters, who arrived in a nearly empty cafeteria. Sanders was in the upstairs hall trying to hide students when he was shot from behind in the torso, head, and neck. He managed to get himself into a science lab. Student Deirdra Kucera posted a sign in the lab window, "1 BLEEDING TO DEATH", and others alerted 911 dispatchers, but help never came because the police feared it was a ruse by the shooters. Sanders bled out in the lab.
* Twenty-year-old Mary Gibbs of the Faraday School Kidnapping in 1972, who was taken hostage along with her six pupils, forced into a van at gunpoint and driven into a remote area in the Australian bush. When their kidnappers left to collect their ransom at around five o'clock in the morning, Gibbs kicked out one of the door panels of the van with her heavy, platform-heeled boots, then led the girls through the bush in the dark until they found help several kilometres away. Three months later she was awarded a George Medal for her bravery.
* Creator/LiamNeeson trained as teacher in Newcastle. He was dismissed after punching a student in the face for pulling a knife on him.
