6Augmented Reality refers to any system that overlays virtual objects or information on top of or beside images from the real world.

8Distinguished from a HeadsUpDisplay in that the information in a HUD is presented as being on the surface it's projected on, whereas Augmented Reality is usually presented as "actually" being part of the world behind it. It's pretty much the epitome RealLife example of GogglesDoSomethingUnusual.

Sometimes Akira's opponents are able to see Alpha, which she uses to her cunning advantage, like having Akira literally hide inside of her with a gun, or her PlayingPossum only to feign attacking the opponent from behind.

When the puck was passed or shot, the glow became a blue or red comet trail, depending on the puck's speed. (The blue glow was a PermanentPlaceholder, the GFX team intended to put in another effect, but people liked the simple glow.) Despite generally positive reception, the idea was ridiculed in some corners, so when ratings declined, Fox abandoned the concept just to be safe. The television coverage rotates from one car to another, and the display shows the driver's name, photo, and other pertinent stats, as well as the car's current speed and position. You can also have an eye replaced with a Utilit-i implant that does the same thing, and can be plucked out for the EyeSpy trick.
83* In the 8th edition of ''TabletopGames/{{Paranoia}}'', these are part of the ubiquitous Cerebral Coretech implants. Often useful (showing other citizens' names and treason stars), sometimes distracting (when the Computer or a teammate takes up half your field of vision while you're in a firefight). Also, while the hardware is difficult to subvert (being, y'know, inside the citizen's skull), the software and comm link are another matter. And there are occasional dead zones where the link can't pick up a signal, causing the display to freeze (you can get a bonus for reporting one, or take advantage to do sneaky stuff while you're off the radar).

It is implied to be the ancient equivalent of a smartphone, and thus as common as dirt.
