->''"All you really need to know is that there is a gun that shoots shurikens and lightning. I wish I could make something like that up. It shoots '''shurikens''' and '''lightning'''! The only way it could be more awesome is if it had tits and was on fire."''
-->-- '''Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw''' on ''VideoGame/{{Painkiller}}'', ''WebAnimation/ZeroPunctuation''

When [[ImpossiblyCoolWeapon an awesome-looking weapon]] isn't possible, awesome ammunition is. Abnormal Ammo covers exotic substitutions of practical ammunition, as well as ammunition that works ''only'' for the RuleOfCool. Most people don't have a weapon that shoots glasses of milk, but in fiction, there's no shortage of strange weapons with unusual discharge. All bets are off if a catapult comes into play; even in RealLife, practical ammunition like boulders and gravel were frequently replaced by low-tech biological weapons (dead/diseased animals/people) or incendiary devices (GreekFire).

This trope is TruthInTelevision in that just about everything has been used as a weapon at least once. What keeps abnormal ammo from becoming normal ammo is that real versions are most often CoolButInefficient or AwesomeButImpractical.

Compare ImprobableAimingSkills, where the ammunition does something unusual, but isn't ''made'' of anything unusual, and ImprovisedWeapon and ImprobableWeaponUser, where the weapon is unusual, but may not be a gun. Can overlap with ImpossiblyCoolWeapon, where the weapon itself is exotic, rather than the ammo.

* The 2006 Volkswagen campaign [=VDub=], a parody of hip-hop culture in which Creator/PeterStormare "un-pimps ze auto" in unusual ways, features one ad in which a [[RiceBurner pimped-out car]] is destroyed by being [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7zxiLURQ1w thrown by a trebuchet]].

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* ''Franchise/TheDCU'':
** ''ComicBook/FiftyTwo'': A later issue has Will Magnus using bullets that are miniaturized versions of his ComicBook/MetalMen.
** ''ComicBook/{{Batman}}'':
*** The Condiment King uses guns that shoot, well, condiments like ketchup and mustard. Pretty silly, [[NotSoHarmlessVillain until he uses hot sauce-based guns and spice powder to blind people and burn their throats]].
*** [[Characters/BatmanTheJoker The Joker]] has a BANGFlagGun. for all your DoubleSubversion needs. Pull the trigger once, it sends out a "BANG!" flag. Pull it again, and it fires the flag (which has a pointed tip) into the victim. He once pulled out a gun that had a "CLICK!" flag in it, so that he could declare, "Damn! Misfire!"
** ''ComicBook/SupermanSupergirlMaelstrom'':
*** One of Darkseid's soldiers is armed with twin arm cannons which shoot flaming skulls.
*** Darkseid's {{mook|s}} Cyberpak can detach the fleshy bumps growing all over his forearms and using them like exploding projectiles (which he calls flesh grenades).
* ''Franchise/MarvelUniverse'':
** ''ComicBook/CaptainBritainAndTheMightyDefenders:'' The Bosses of Mondo City (pretty much lawyer-friendly versions of the Judges) have special synthezoid tech bullets, which can go intangible. They're usually used for shooting through cover... or heads
** ''ComicBook/{{Deadpool}}'': [[Characters/MarvelComicsDeadpool Deadpool]] has an inflatable sheep gun -- a gun that fires inflatable sheep, not an inflatable gun that fires normal sheep.
--->'''Deadpool:''' [[BreakingTheFourthWall C'mon guys?]] Don't you remember that totally sweet rabid hamster shotgun I once had? Or what about that gun made of solid gold? It shot freaking diamonds!
** ''ComicBook/EarthX'': Tony Stark's HumongousMecha Iron Factory fires ''Iron Man suits'' from its guns.
** ''ComicBook/FantasticFour'': [[AtrociousAlias Paste Pot Pete]] had a gun that shot quick-setting glue. Which would have been cooler if he didn't need to carry around a bucket in the other hand filled with his ammo. His attempt to change his name to the Trapster after designing a self-contained glue gun has been undermined by people [[OnceDoneNeverForgotten who won't let him live down]] [[ButtMonkey his earlier lameness.]]
** ''ComicBook/ThePunisher'': One comic had [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/GunThatShootsSwords.jpg a gun]] [[ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks that shot swords]].
--->"It's a gun, Frank. A gun that shoots ''swords''."\
FWOCKA FWOCKA FWOCKA FWOCKA
** ''ComicBook/XMen'': Fantomex has ''sentient homing bullets made from malleable skin'' that even have human faces on them.
* ''ComicBook/GoldDigger'': Brianna Diggers experiment with "Peebo bullets" based on her robot pets in one issue. They were supposed to seek out and hit bad guys on their own, thereby making them perfectly safe for bystanders; unfortunately their limited [=AI=] gave them a rather broad view of what actually ''constituted'' a 'bad guy' and hilarity predictably ensued.
* ''ComicBook/JudgeDredd'': The Judges' standard Lawgiver sidearm has several types of unusual ammunition in addition to standard ammunition which can be easily switched as needed. These types include ricochet, heatseeking[[note]]Later retired because the techs felt it was too indiscriminate[[/note]], incendiary, armour piercing and high explosive. All of the above are usable in the {{F|irstPersonShooter}}PS video game too. Memorably parodied in a Dredd story set in Ireland, where terrorists use "spud guns" which lethally fire potatoes in various forms -- mash, chips, etc -- culminating in the memorable line "spud guns to roasties!"
* ''ComicBook/{{Planetary}}'': In issue 11, John Stone fires a bullet that appears to have a tiny chainsaw blade on one side, called the "Rip-Round," to rupture the fuel line for cyborg Bride's getaway plane. He could have used a normal bullet.
* ''ComicBook/SpyBoy'': The Magnum Opus, Spy Boy's gun, fires a variety of these.
* ''ComicBook/{{Watchmen}}'': In a grimmer take than most, in the accompanying material there's an excerpt from ''Tales of the Black Freighter'' in which the pirate crew uses half-rotted human heads as ammunition for their cannons.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Comic Strips]]
* ''ComicStrip/TheFarSide'': In one strip, a burglar is confronted by a man with a gun that shoots Doberman Pinschers. Called, appropriately enough, the Dobie-O-Matic (the gun, not the ammo).
* ''ComicStrip/TwistedToyfareTheatre'':
** One of the stormtroopers once built a gun that shoots lightsabers. It ended up destroying a planet.
** Dr. Doom built a ''Spice Cannon'' that uses Baby Spice as ammo.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* The Angry Marines, a fanmade chapter of the ''TabletopGame/Warhammer40000'' space marines, have things like door knob bombs, a Baneblade pistol (a pistol that fires the rounds of Baneblade super tanks), the heavily modified Predator Angrinator which fires Angry Marines, and the Land Raider launcher, a spaceship weapon which fires Land Raiders filled with Angry Marines at other spaceships.
* ''Fanfic/FalloutEquestriaProjectHorizons'' features Blackjack's super gun "Trottenheimer's Folly" which fires what are called "Silver Bullets" that are made of [[spoiler:moonstone, asteroids/Sky Iron/Star Bones, and radioactive magical mutation goo]].
* ''Fanfic/JustAnUnorthodoxThief'' has Assassin's multitude of gags and gimmicks extends to the ammo for his Walther. Exploding bullets are practically a Real Life example, but he also uses ''glue'' bullets to trap enemies in place.
* ''Fanfic/LightAndDarkTheAdventuresOfDarkYagami'':
** Matsuda has a "police gun" that fires police cars.
** Dark later gets a crosshammer, which is a crossbow, except instead of arrows, it fires hammers.
** During the final showdown between Dark and L, we see the latter use a machine sword, which is a machine gun that fires swords, [[RecursiveAmmo which then split into more swords]].
* ''VideoGame/MeloettaMelodyOfDiscord'': Examples of projectiles that the player characters can use include musical notes, leeks, fish and the color pink.
* ''Fanfic/ThePezDispenserAndTheReignOfTerror'' has the titular object, which mainly runs off of PEZ candies (which can be set to a power level anywhere from "peashooter" to "Hiroshima bomb").
* ''Fanfic/CodeGeassAwesomeOfTheRebellion'' has the [[AnAsskickingChristmas Christmas special]], where Awesome gets a machine sword from Santa, in a ShoutOut to Dark Yagami.
* ''Fanfic/MassEffectMurphysLaw'' has the Plasma Rifle, an invention that uses synthetic plasma created by an experimental fusion reactor as ammo. It burns through just about everything, bypassing kinetic barriers and armor with ease, but can't be used in a vacuum.
* Years ago, one of the ''Star Wars'' fan boards out there on the internet had developed a cannon that shot Ewoks. Sadly the schematics or specs or backstory are no longer available, but they were even developing different types of ammo for said cannon.
* There was a discussion on Website/GameFAQs once regarding the usefulness of detonating FTL cores of ships in the ''Franchise/{{Halo}}'' universe. Cortana was a fan of it because of the massive explosions.
--> '''Unknown poster:''' What we need is a [[ExaggeratedTrope ship]] that [[MultiDirectionalBarrage shoots]] [[ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill ships]] at [[LudicrousGibs them]].
* In the ''Literature/{{Discworld}}'' of Creator/AAPessimal, Princess Ruth N'Kweze discovers she needs weapons capable of killing or at least deterring were-creatures ''very quickly''. She resorts to ransacking her treasury for coins with a silver content, having them melted down, and used to silver-plate spearheads and crossbow bolts. A significant weapon and a key to understanding was a ceremonial assegai -- less than half the usual size with a spearhead in pure silver, this was only ever meant to be part of the ceremonial regalia of the Crown Princess and was never intended for fighting. Ruth dismisses this as an absurd silly toy -- until a werecreature-Assassin shows up.
* ''Fanfic/ForTheGloryOfIrk'':
** At Dib's birthday party, his father offers to build him any weapon he wants as a present, listing a gun that shoots live honey badgers as an example. The context suggests he's actually already built one already.
** At another point, Membrane makes a comment about putting weasel cannons on cars. When asked, Moira tells Dib he doesn't want to know what that means.
** When Gaz is helping design weapons for [[spoiler: [[TheFederation the Syndicate]] and the [[LaResistance Irken Resistance]]]], Membrane talks her into designing a gun that fires cobras which have been genetically modified to have machetes growing out of their tails.
** Gaz later works on rocket launchers that fire electrically-charged exploding stuffed unicorns.
* In ''Fanfic/ThePhantomQueen'', supervillain "Da Vinci" uses a paintball gun for his crimes, with the "paint" being made of HollywoodAcid that eats through anything in seconds upon contact.
* ''Fanfic/RubyPair'': The pirate space bees ([[ItMakesSenseInContext long story]]) that the Irkens encounter in "Beefus Megabombus" use meatballs, ribs, sausages, and other pieces of meat as cannonballs.
* ''Fanfic/InvaderZimABadThingNeverEnds'': The Amoeba Gun, first wielded by Bob in Chapter 8 before it becomes his primary weapon later on, fires acidic {{Blob Monster}}s at people.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Animation]]
* The ''Franchise/DespicableMe'' films seem to revel in this trope.
** "Piranha gun! Oh yeah!" The impracticality of this one is {{lampshade|Hanging}}d in a scene where, after firing the gun, Vector tries to fit the piranha back ''into'' the weapon so he can fire it again, and fails miserably.
** The Squid Launcher, which also works as a GrapplingHookPistol.
** On Gru's side, the Fart Gun, although that one was by mistake since he really wanted a ''dart'' gun.
--->'''[[MadScientist Dr. Nefario]]:''' I ''was'' wondering, under what circumstances would we use this...
** [[WesternAnimation/DespicableMe2 The second film]] gives us the "jelly guns" which, as the name implies, fire [[LethalChef foul-tasting]] [[SeparatedByACommonLanguage jam]] [[spoiler:that contains an antidote to the PX-41 serum, returning all Gru's minions back to normal when hit]]. The fart gun also makes an appearance as well.
* In ''WesternAnimation/{{Gandahar}}'', Sylvain's gun doesn't fire bullets. It fires seeds, which grow into large thorny plants the instant they hit something. A direct hit leaves the target impaled by multiple thorns if not torn apart.
* ''WesternAnimation/IceAgeDawnOfTheDinosaurs'': Buck uses specific fruit berries as a defensive weapon against dinosaurs, upon impact they explode and unleash varying amounts of gases. He uses some to daze the dinosaurs first then uses a more powerful one to get the herd away from surrounding dinos by obscuring the entire area in the fruit’s gases to make their escape easier without being followed. They show up again later in the movie.

* ''WesternAnimation/TheIncredibles1'': Syndrome's lair on [[PunnyName Nomanisan Island]] utilizes sentry guns that fire sticky inflating balloon rounds to nonlethally stop any erstwhile superheroic intruders via GelatinousEncasement. According to some of the commentaries, that was the only kind of weapon they could think of that would conceivably stop Mr. Incredible without killing him and/or destroying the base (it may have also been lightly based on real nonlethal weapon concepts currently in development). These have also been interpreted -- probably incorrectly -- as a ShoutOut to another balloon-like weapon used to keep people captive on an island: the Rover from ''Series/ThePrisoner1967''.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheLegoMovie'':
** During the Cloud Cuckoo Land battle, the police have guns that fire wads of bubblegum, ensnaring anyone they hit.
** Any of the thrown artifact weapons can count as this, since the rest of the world is LEGO.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheLegoBatmanMovie'' has Batman's "merch gun", which is like a t-shirt gun, only more so. One shot, and the "victim" will be fully outfitted in Bat-logo merchandise.
* In ''WesternAnimation/TheLegoMovie2TheSecondPart'', General Mayhem's spacecraft fires stars and exploding hearts while her blaster fires stickers.
* The ''Franchise/{{Madagascar}}'' short film ''WesternAnimation/TheMadagascarPenguinsInAChristmasCaper'' has the penguin Rico used as a gun, firing the contents of a bowl of peppermint candies at KillerRabbit (or in this case, poodle) Mr. Chew.
* ''WesternAnimation/PussInBootsTheLastWish'': One of "Big" Jack Horner's many weapons is a crossbow loaded with horns cut from baby unicorns, which he mentions as being less heavy and twice as sharp as regular arrows and adult unicorn horns alike. And, as he discovers when he first puts them to use in combat (since he didn't bother testing them before), they can make people explode into confetti.
* ''WesternAnimation/WonderWoman2009'': Wonder Woman's invisible jet has invisible missiles.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Pinballs]]
* ''Pinball/MedievalMadness'': The catapult fires bowling balls, cats, chickens, cows, and a skull.
* ''VideoGame/PlantsVsZombiesPinball'' has the Melonpult, which shoots watermelons.
%%* ''Pinball/{{Hook}}'': Weapons that can be collected include eggs, tomatoes, and beehives.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Podcasts]]
* ''Podcast/MissionToZyxx'': Kor Balevor explains that he survived all his limbs being simultaneously ambutated because the attacking starship was so low on ammunition that it was firing cybernetic replacement parts. He was hit directly in the torso with a cyborg torso.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Print Media]]
* ''Magazine/TopSecretMagazine'': An editor's error resulted in a mention of a "grenade-launcher launcher". Nifty.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Professional Wrestling]]
* Wrestling/{{CZW}}: At ''Welcome to the Combat Zone'', Drew Gulak cheated Danny Havoc out of a table match with Chuck Taylor by shooting Havoc in the face with a confetti gun.
* Wrestling/KaijuBigBattel: Goldenrod's pollen gun, which makes her targets sneeze.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Radio]]
* ''Radio/TheGoonShow'': In "The [=MacReekie=] Rising of '74", the ammo includes porridge, Brown Windsor soup, and Sassenachs.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Roleplay]]
* ''Roleplay/DestroyTheGodmodder'' has all sorts of examples, especially since players can add their own via the ItemCrafting system. These range from a gun that fires radioactive golden snowballs to [[ShoutOut a revolver that fires cue balls]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Toys]]
* ''Toys/{{Bionicle}}'' has several examples:
** The Kanoka are essentially superpowered frisbee disks.
** There's also an arc that took place underwater; some of the good guys used air bubbles as ammo (toxic to waterbreathers) while the bad guys shot [[TentacledTerror vampiric squids]].
** Near the end, the ammo of choice was Thornax, [[EdibleAmmunition a kind of fruit]]. Hey, don't laugh; would ''you'' like to get hit with a coconut at high speed? A ''spiky, [[MadeOfExplodium potentially explosive]]'' coconut?
* ''Franchise/GIJoe'' tracker Spirit has a hi-tech assault rifle that shot arrows.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Visual Novels]]
* Although it wasn't seen, in ''VisualNovel/{{Apollo Justice|AceAttorney}}'', Trucy mentions that one of her tricks involves firing a gun that shoots Bullets. Turns out "Bullets" is the name of a cat.
* ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'':
** Archer, a Servant of the same class who, despite his name, actually specializes in the creation of magical swords... which he shoots like arrows with his bow.
** Gilgamesh, another Archer class servant takes this a step further using his special attack, the Gate of Babylon, which creates a metaphysical portal in the sky connected to his treasure vault... from which he launches ''hundreds and hundreds and hundreds'' of legendary weapons like a rain of mythical metal.
* ''VisualNovel/{{Tsukihime}}'', also by Type-MOON has the physical manifestation of a scripture taking the form of a cross between a literal Cross and a machinegun firing holy stakes.
* ''VideoGame/{{Wells}}'': [[PlayerCharacter Wells']] gun can fire some pretty unusual stuff. For example, one ammo type is a big, spiked, bouncing bomb.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Web Animation]]
* ''WebAnimation/ClubPenguinShutdown'': In the aftermath of ''VideoGame/ClubPenguin''[='=]s server shutdown, the game's snowball function has been transformed into in-universe firearms from the penguins channeling their extreme stress into their throw, which are used in inter-gang conflicts and similar instances. A gunshot sound usually plays whenever a penguin throws a snowball, and a gun cocking one is sometimes heard when a penguin holds up a snowball.
* ''WebAnimation/HomestarRunner'':
** One thing Strong Bad says he'd do to make his town different in the WebAnimation/StrongBadEmail "different town" is have Bubs give away [[NinjaPirateZombieRobot flamethrowers that shoot chocolate hundred-dollar bills]] ("Imitation chocolate!").
** One of the items on Strong Bad's [[YouMeanXmas Decemberween]] wish list in "what I want" is a catapult that shoots balls of cobras.
* The [[LaserBlade laser-swords]] with guns on them used by the pirates in ''WebAnimation/HowToKillAMockingbird'' shoot other swords, as well as {{bears|AreBadNews}} that are [[IncendiaryExponent on fire]].
* In ''WebAnimation/NatrapsX'', Rockman has [[VideoGame/StreetFighterII E. Honda]] equipped as a projectile weapon. It's not very effective against Bowser.
* In ''WebAnimation/ObjectOverload'', there is a cannon that fires [[AnimateInanimateObject living objects]] called the "Contestant Cannon." Although, it did shoot a cannonball in "Branching Out."
* ''WebAnimation/RedVsBlue'':
** At one point, Caboose's gun is revealed to be loaded with crayons rather than bullets, although he never fires it like this. Comes in handy when he and Tucker need to draw visual aids to teach Crunchbite the Alien English.
** In Season 13, Dr. Grey designs a gun for the Freckles AI to be loaded into. Given Caboose's habit of killing and maiming team-mates by accident, and the fact that Freckles was originally designed to be an unstoppable killing machine, Grey builds in a range of safety features. One of those features is that the gun will only fire confetti until explicitly instructed to kill enemies, at which point it becomes a lethal killing machine that uses proper ammo. This has the accidental, but fortunate, side-effect of making the weapon useless in the hands of enemies of the Reds and Blues -- who find it will only fire confetti for them as well.
** During the Freelancer Saga, Agent Carolina's unit has to retrieve an artefact from an enemy building. While she and Agent Washington are pinned down by a flame-throwing enemy, Washington grabs one of the experimental weapons in the room to fire it, only to discover that the ammunition bounces all over the walls like a ping-pong ball and ends up exploding somewhere down a corridor it bounced down. Wash is absolutely incensed that anyone would ever want to design something as ridiculously useless as bouncing ammo.
* ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'': Dust is the world of Remnant's primary form of energy and is usually mined from the ground in crystalline form. It can be used for practical applications, such as ammunition. Modern weapons are therefore built to use Dust cartridges, which allow a user to achieve a variety of desired effects just by choosing the right cartridge for the job. This means that weapons can fire normal ammunition, but they can also shoot things like lightning, fire, ice or even gravity.
* The Furtive Polar Bear in ''WebAnimation/TalesOfTheBlodeEpisode4'' defends his North Pole lair with a gun that fires kittens.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Webcomics]]
* ''WebComic/EightBitTheater'':
** Fighter talks about a weapon firing sword-beams. A constant stream of laser-powered swords.
** There is also the [[http://www.nuklearpower.com/2003/01/09/episode-234-smart-bomb/ Giant Cannon]]. No, it's not just a really big cannon. However, it has to be somewhat big to be able to fire ''giants''.
* In ''Webcomic/AntiheroForHire'' the eponymous antihero's entire weapon is based around this. With special bullets that explode, do fire, and all sorts of things.
* Invoked [[http://www.awkwardzombie.com/index.php?page=0&comic=112816 here]] in ''Webcomic/AwkwardZombie''.
* In [[http://backcomic.com/33 this page]] of ''Webcomic/{{BACK}}'', Abigail loads her revolver with [[BlandNameProduct Peppo Bismo]] to combat a pair of sheriffs who [[BizarreBelching weaponise their belches]].
* ''Webcomic/ABeginnersGuideToTheEndOfTheUniverse'' has the protagonist create an "autoflintlock", which is able to shoot anything that can fit even halfway into one of its barrels, though only items the size of a revolver round can be stored in its ammunition chambers.
* ''Webcomic/BobTheAngryFlower'' has such a vast collection of ray guns it is inevitable some would fit this trope. He turned back a crowd of his enemies with his Donut Ray, while the Seahorse Ray was mostly used for a cheap laugh.
* ''Webcomic/{{Chicanery}}'''s [[VideoGame/EarthBound1994 Jeff]] [[GadgeteerGenius develops "ludicrously deadly" bullets in his spare time.]]
-->'''Jeff:''' [[ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill This is it... The 3219 armor-piercing, drill-tipped, rocket-propelled, nuclear-powered, high velocity bullet with pneumatic shaft explosion dampener, buzzing flagellatory membrane]], [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking and a miniature camera so you can see the]] [[OhCrap look on his face]] before you go through it.
* ''Webcomic/CyanideAndHappiness'' had a [[http://www.explosm.net/comics/585/ gun that shoots piranhas.]] It doesn't work as planned. Another [[http://www.explosm.net/comics/1391/ strip]] shows how "InstantMessengerPigeon" works.
* ''Dreamleak'' features a quadruple pie thrower. Interestingly, it was not used as a weapon but as a clay pigeon launcher.
* In ''Webcomic/DubiousCompany'', Elly usually pulls out the [[TeamPet raccoon]], rather than an arrow, when [[BerserkButton shouting]] "I'm [[DudeLooksLikeALady NOT]] a girl!"
* ''WebComic/ExterminatusNow'': It's a crossbow, Virus. [[http://exterminatusnow.comicgenesis.com/d/20090815.html A crossbow that shoots]] [[LaserBlade beam swords]]...
* The ''Videogame/WorldOfWarcraft'' parody strip ''Webcomic/FlintlockesGuideToAzeroth'' uses this as a running gag. To make matters worse, most of the ammo is alive at least until the time of firing. He killed someone in one hit using a supersonic woodchuck.
** An upgraded version of "tha Chuckshot", known as the "remote backstab", involves firing Lowping, the party's rogue, at the target. After impacting, and presumably totaling anyone who gets in the way, the rogue will backstab any survivors. It works.
* ''{{Hellbent}}'' has the "Fetus Laucher 2007" a.k.a. [[http://hellbentcomics.com/2007/11/07/fl2k7/ FL2K7]]
* ''[[Webcomic/RoomiesItsWalkyJoyceAndWalky It's Walky!]]'' has the monkey cannon from the Monkey Master. It's apparently inexhaustible, suggesting it's plumbed into some kind of monkey dimension, but after MM spends some time under the ocean, the cannon only shoots drowned monkeys until he dries off.
* The standard ''Webcomic/GenocideMan'' handgun is a railgun that shoots nickel-plated plastic needles, not really that deadly by themselves so they're tipped with a variant of [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarin Sarin-M]] that'll completely paralyze in 3 seconds (death takes longer, not that they care).
* ''Webcomic/GirlGenius'':
** The [[http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20081015 Hand-cranked runcible gun]] shoots sporks. With a "Spork! Spork! Spork!" UnsoundEffect.
** The Baron's airship is shot with shells [[http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20070404 containing some flesh-dissolving monsters]].
** [[http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20110928 Remote Controlled Deployable Turret Cannonballs]]!
* ''Webcomic/GrrlPower'': Dabbler's gun has the ability to shoot multiple kinds of ammo, such as a proximity-detecting bullet that ties up its target. The drawback is because she invented most of it herself and won't share her technology she has to make all the special bullets herself, and she gets bored and doesn't make more than a handful of each.
* ''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}'':
** One of the firearms that Jade creates on entering the Medium, the Green Sun Streetsweeper, fires tiny green suns.
** Doc Scratch's gun fires magic cue-ball bullets and is implied to be one of the few things that can harm Lord English. Too bad it only had one bullet, which Spades Slick used to [[spoiler: kill Snowman, ending the Troll's universe]].
* ''Webcomic/LeastICouldDo'' has orphan shooting a pigeon gun.
* ''Webcomic/MacHall'' implies there's two kinds of "Monkey Guns" -- one that's just a run-of-the-mill gun used for shooting at monkeys, and another that was a gun that shot monkeys ''out of it''. Ian is told that they didn't have either one on hand.
* ''Webcomic/{{Magiversity}}'' has Wyndgarde Ironkeel who is a Gunmage, so she shoots magic.
* ''Webcomic/ManlyGuysDoingManlyThings'' brings us [[http://thepunchlineismachismo.com/archives/316 the future of capitalism]]:
-->'''Commander:''' [[CommieNazis Space Commies]] are th' biggest threat t' red-blooded [[EagleLand American freedom]] we got in the' future. So the armed forces decided they'd jazz up high ranking officers enough t'push action figures.\
'''Jared:''' Does it come with accessories?\
'''Commander:''' Jus' this gun. I guess it shoots little guns.\
'''Jared:''' I LOVE CAPITALISM!\
'''Commander:''' I think th' little guns shoot deep-fried beer cans or somethin'.\
'''Jared:''' ''[[{{Hammerspace}} Where are they coming from?]]''
* ''Webcomic/MetroidThirdDerivative'' has some. Some notable ones include the [[KineticWeaponsAreJustBetter Kinetic Beam]] which only does damage should it's target collide with something else, the Phase Beam which has mysterious space-time properties, and [[NukeEm Mega Missiles]] that nuke entire rooms (including the user too).
* From ''Webcomic/{{Narbonic}}'': "He's shooting exploding flaming poison cannonballs!" %% ?
* ''ComicStrip/{{Nodwick}}'':
** The "Henchapult", which fires the titular Henchman.
** And "[[http://comic.nodwick.com/?comic=2005-08-16 Swordslinger]]"
* ''Webcomic/TheOrderOfTheStick'': During the invasion of Azure City, Redcloak loads the catapults with [[BizarroElements Titanium]] elementals, just as strong as the classic Earth elementals but 20% lighter. And unlike inanimate boulders they get up and attack the wall's defenders after landing.
* ''Webcomic/PennyArcade'' ran [[https://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/09/12 a World of Warcraft-based strip]] where they cover Sinistine, Bow of the Black Maiden - a bow that shoots ''witches'' instead of arrows.
* In the Guntron Alliance Force strip of ''ComicStrip/ThePerryBibleFellowship'', we are presented with a Combining Mecha Gun that shoots ''the vehicle of the blue member of the group'' as a bullet. No wonder the green guy looks pissed as he takes his place in the gun chamber. They must go through many members that way...
* ''Webcomic/RustyAndCo'' has a [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-5-5/ badger launcher]].
* ''Webcomic/SamAndFuzzy'''s Darkshark had a gun that [[http://samandfuzzy.com/1125 shoots swords that have chainsaws mounted on them]], [[ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill far outdoing Bitey's sword with a gun on it.]]
* ''Webcomic/SchlockMercenary'': Schlock takes someone else's gun (out of a storage locker) because he thinks it will shoot hammers. His commander promptly quashes any further attempts to look for one that would actually do so.
-->'''Schlock:''' The box said "Blattco Clawhammer", but I think it just shoots regular bullets...\
'''Ebbirnoth:''' If you ever '''do''' find a gun that fires hammers, you are under explicit orders to put it back where you found it.
* [[http://www.sluggy.com/daily.php?date=020630 This]] from ''Webcomic/SluggyFreelance'' shows an Inflatable Rabbit Decoy Inflatable Cannon. The repetition of the word "Inflatable" is not an error.
** [[http://sluggy.com/comics/archives/daily/060124 This]] shows a ray-gun that can be set to "Stun", "Kill", "Mashed Potatoes", and "Olives", the last of which is used.
** To fight vampires, Riff developed an auto-staker; a {{Gatling|Good}} that fires 1k wooden stakes a second. Awesome to shoot, a nightmare to reload.
** Riff also developed [[http://www.sluggy.com/comics/archives/daily/081008 "sleep chaff"]], a flurry of little razor discs with a tranquilizer gel center.
* ''Webcomic/{{Unsounded}}'': [[spoiler:Abby]] is killed when she's hit with the spinning pymaric blade projectiles of a weapon at the shrine, leaving her in pieces.
* In ''Webcomic/ZokushoComics'', while Serge's [[BottomlessMagazines "Phantom Shot"]] provides him with an infinite amount of ordinary ammunition, his revolver, Lucky Seven, fires magical bullets. He tends to prefer {{Fireballs}}.

[[folder:Web Original]]
* In ''WebVideo/AtopTheFourthWallTheMovie'', the weapons that [[WebVideo/ToBoldlyFlee the Executor]] was developing on Europa all seem to have unconventional ammo, with guns that shoot swords, chainsaws, bees, and duct tape. Linkara and Allen end up using the latter two during the fight against [[spoiler:Mechakara]].
* Guns in ''Literature/ChaosFighters''-Route of Sea can fire swords, lances and ''feathers''.
* MemeticMutation holds that [[{{Eagleland}} American weapons have rates of fire measured in freedoms per minute, while vehicles and bombs are weighed by how much democracy they contain]].
* ''Literature/{{Prolecto}}'' includes HRE ammunition. It causes any demon who is hit by it to set on fire. Unfortunately for the protagonists... they are demons.
* For your viewing pleasure, the [[http://scottthong.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/rpchainsaw1.jpg RPC M1B]] Rocket-Propelled '''{{chainsaw|Good}}''' Launcher.
* ''Website/SCPFoundation'':
** [[http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-127 SCP-127]], the aptly-named "Living Gun", is on the outside a normal [=MP5K=] submachine gun. On the inside, however, [[LivingWeapon it's made of flesh and blood]], and it grows ''human teeth'' it fires as ammunition.
** Also there is the sillier entry [[http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-50-ae-j SCP-50-AE-J]]. A Desert Eagle chambered for 50AE, which doesn't actually fire a bullet but summons a large bald eagle which proceeds to rip the target a new one, while screaming something to the effect of "YOU COMMIE-NIST BASTARD!!!!!!"
** [[http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-2818 SCP-2818]] are a bunch of M82 Barrett anti-materiel rifles which, when fired, cause the shooter to disappear completely. The bullet that comes out seems to be made of flesh...
** The archived [[http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-157-arc 157-ARC]] is a single round which regenerates itself when fired, and alters itself to fit any gun it is brought near, from regular pistol rounds through a bony organic round for SCP-127 (the only time 127 has allowed itself to be reloaded externally) and a shell for SCP-516's main gun, to rather more exotic things they weren't willing to test-fire.
* ''WebVideo/StampysLovelyWorld'': Stampy's boat, the SS Stumpy, has ''snowball'' cannons, to reflect the Lovely World residents' more peaceful nature.
* Many denied examples in ''Blog/ThingsMrWelchIsNoLongerAllowedToDoInAnRPG'', including such things as rock salt, guppy buckshot, armadillos in lieu of cannonballs, [[CatapultToGlory other PCs]], and more.
* "Undercover Soldier", an in-universe script featured in ''Series/TheCallOfWarr'', features a gun that shoots paper-work at the evildoers for breaking the law.
* Cute little Generator in the ''Literature/WhateleyUniverse'' has a linear accelerator gun which fires Tasers, explosives, and sticky nets of webbing. But her bracers are even better. While they appear to fire different kinds of missiles, what they really fire are psychokinetic copies of Generator herself, which then hold and direct the missiles.
