The ''Hamish X'' book series is a trilogy of novels written by Canadian stand-up comedian Creator/SeanCullen. It includes books ''Hamish X and the Cheese Pirates'', ''Hamish X and the Hollow Mountain'' and ''Hamish X Goes to Providence Rhode Island''.

The title character, Hamish X, is a HollywoodCyborg (or RidiculouslyHumanRobot, depending on interpretation) with gold eyes. He's an orphan who was modified by a [[TheMenInBlack Men-in-Black-like]] organization called the Orphan Disposal Agency, or ODA. Of course, he goes on to [[TurnedAgainstTheirMasters become their worst enemy]] when he realizes he's being manipulated.

The series is surprisingly deep and detailed but it also manages to be hilarious; it uses footnotes containing comedic (and often completely made up) definitions and explanations of various events as they progress.

For another series by the same author, [[SpiritualSequel written after this one was completed]], see ''Literature/ChroniclesOfTheMisplacedPrince''.
----
!! This Series contains examples of:

%% * ActionGirl - Cara, and Mimi to some extent (though she's more of a {{Tomboy}}).
%% * {{Atlantis}} - One of the main locations of the third installment, complete with LostTechnology.
%% * BedouinRescueService - Literally.
%% * BeneathTheEarth - The ''Hollow Mountain'' mentioned in the second book's title.
%% * BewareTheNiceOnes - Mrs. Guardian. Unusually for this trope, she's actually evil.
%% * BigBad - The ODA, even though it's an entire [[NebulousEvilOrganization organization]], technically has a leader - the [[AIIsACrapshoot superadvanced]] AI known only as "Mother".
%% * AChildShallLeadThem - King Liam (and all of the previous children in his position).
%% * ConvenientComa
%% * CursedWithAwesome - Hamish X, who, of course, [[IJustWantToBeNormal just wants to be normal]] and, to some extent, BecomeARealBoy.
%% * DarkAndTroubledPast - Hamish X, complete with many a FlashbackNightmare and a healthy dose of LaserGuidedAmnesia.
* DemonicInvaders: [[spoiler:The ODA's Grey Agents are actually captured orphans with their bodies taken over by creatures from [[AnotherDimension another plane of existence]].]]
%% * FightingFromTheInside - [[spoiler: Aidan, after being turned into Mr Crisp.]]
%% * FluffyTheTerrible - Every member, or 'Grey Agent' of the ODA has a name related to deserts or confections, possibly to hide their sinister motives (though it is never blatantly explained).
%% * FunetikAksent- Mimi
%% * GogglesDoSomethingUnusual: The goggles that the Grey Agents wear do so many things that it blows GogglesDoNothing out of the water.
%% * HeelFaceTurn - Mr. Kipling in the first book. Not a spoiler, since you can kinda tell the second he shows up.
* HiveMind: George, the MasterComputer that keeps the Hollow Mountain under control, is physically manifested as a Hive Mind made up of talking, mechanical raccoons.
%% * HumanResources - A la Film/TheMatrix...
%% * IfMyCalculationsAreCorrect - Parveen, TheSmartGuy + GadgeteerGenius main character, is constantly spouting things like this.
%% * LaserGuidedAmnesia - The ODA has wiped Hamish X's memory multiple times.
* LemonyNarrator: The narrator only speaks in footnotes and introductions, but he's constantly making odd statements and breaking the FourthWall.
%% * TheLoad - Maggie and Thomas from the third book. Were they really necessary?
%% * LostWorld
%% * MamaBear - Mrs. Francis, the [[ApronMatron child-loving domestic]]. She even attempts to fight sometimes.
%% * TheMenInBlack - The Gray agents of the ODA
* MoodWhiplash: The third book, in contrast to the previous two, is almost entirely dramatic and much less comedic. Of course, if we work in reverse, the first book whiplashes into the second - as the first book was almost ''entirely humor'' in comparison.
* MundaneMadeAwesome:
** If you never thought cheesemaking could be epic, this'll change your mind.
** As well as a perfectly ordinary game of one-on-one basketball beetween two children...one of which is a super-powered cyborg, the other given similar powers by his own PoweredArmour. Cha.
** Not allowing the heroes to top them, the ODA also manage to break out this trope - HumongousMecha teddy bears of death? Exploding teapots that actually cause a main character to [[spoiler: be killed off]]? Check and check.
%% * NaiveNewcomer: Xnasha, an Atlantean who acts as a quite literal FishOutOfWater. [[spoiler:She first appears at the beginning of the ''third'' book, is a very important SixthRanger for the book's duration...and is then quickly killed off at the end.]]
%% * NonHumanSidekick - George, who is also technically a RobotBuddy. Compare with [[WeaselMascot Sugar Cheero]] of the ODA.
* ObviouslyEvil: ODA. They call themselves the ORPHAN DISPOSAL AGENCY. If that's not obvious, what is?
%% * OrphanageOfFear - Viggo's cheese factory.
%% * OrphansPlotTrinket - Hamish's treasured book, ''Great Plumbers and Their Exploits.'' [[spoiler:It was printed by the ODA as part of their plan to control him.]]
%% * ParentalAbandonment
%% * PowerGlows
%% ** BattleAura, which is also blue.
%% ** SicklyGreenGlow [[spoiler: The ODA's mini-portals and their massive gate to bring about the EndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt.]]
* RunningGag:
** Arctic foxes are a running gag in the first book.
** Anyone who mentions the King of Switzerland (who is in fact the ruler of the [[LostWorld Hollow Mountain]], which is located in Switzerland - not the country itself) can expect to get the reply "Switzerland is a republic!"
** People in the series also have a tendency to confuse zeppelins for blimps, which is usually corrected by either Parveen or the narrator.
* ScrewDestiny: Hamish X was [[spoiler: modified to bring about the EndofTheWorldAsWeKnowIt]]. To that he says ''no way'' and fights for the good.
* SeriousBusiness: In this book's universe, ''cheesemaking'' is taken very seriously. It's serious enough for there to be a virtual cheese-royalty as well as {{Pirate}}s who only steal cheese.
* ShoutOut: In the third book, we meet a smuggler named [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Stroumboulopoulos Georgio Stroumboulopoulis]]. You have to watch a lot of CBC to get it.
%% * StuffBlowingUp - ''Exploooooooosiiiioooons!'' Plenty of them.
%% * SuperSpeed - One of Hamish X's many powers.
%% * TheVirus
%% * TheShortGuyWithGlasses - Parveen
* TrademarkFavoriteFood:
** Hamish X seems to have a thing for toast. He requests it to be made by George in the second novel, and in the third... [[MundaneMadeAwesome it's made extraordinary and amazing]].
** People of this 'verse, especially Cheese Pirates and the cheesemakers, have an obsession with cheese.
** Parveen loves porridge, which seems to fit his role as TheStoic.
%% * VirtualGhost - [[spoiler: King Liam.]]
* WeCanRebuildHim: [[spoiler: Hamish X, who was actually the victim of a ''staged killing by the ODA'', drowned, and then brought back to life as a cyborg.]]
* WeirdTradeUnion: The narrator belongs to the Guild of Narrators.
%% * WhereAreTheyNowEpilogue - The final chapter.
%% * WrenchWench - [[spoiler: Parveen's sister,]] Noor.
