->''"Hey everybody, it's Chuggaaconroy! Welcome back for more Website/TVTropes!"''

[[https://www.youtube.com/user/chuggaaconroy Chuggaaconroy]] (real name: Emiliano Rosales-Birou) is a [[LetsPlay Let's Player]] with over 1.2 million subscribers. He is known for his high production values, regular update schedule, lighthearted and ([[AccidentalInnuendo mostly]]) family-friendly approach to games, his propensity for catchphrases and {{running gag}}s (usually based on [[MemeticMutation internet memes]]), his [[NoIndoorVoice impressive lung capacity]], his [[PungeonMaster hilariously bad puns]], and [[LargeHam overblown]] reactions to things that happen throughout his playthroughs.

He's also collaborating with LetsPlay/ProtonJon and LetsPlay/NintendoCapriSun on a collective LP account, known as LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys.

Every game he has [=LP'ed=] to date has been available on Creator/{{Nintendo}}'s systems; with the exception of ''VideoGame/{{Okami}}'', ''VideoGame/{{Okamiden}}'', ''VideoGame/SonicColors'', and ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger'', they've all been Nintendo first-party titles. He has played at least one game on every major Nintendo home console and handheld, including six on his personal favorite, the Platform/NintendoGameCube. He is known for his opposition to UsefulNotes/{{emulation}}, though he had to bend this personal rule to LP ''[[VideoGame/EarthBoundBeginnings MOTHER]]'' which wasn't available in America at the time and ''VideoGame/Mother3'', which [[NoExportForYou still isn't]]. He started out doing exclusively [[RolePlayingGame RPGs]], but beginning with ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'', he started doing other genres as well, such as {{platform|Game}}ers.

He is also a big fan of the ''[[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Mario]]'' series. Thus far, he has [=LPed=] ten ''Mario''-related games: four of the main-series platformers (''VideoGame/SuperMario64DS'' with some parts of the N64 game included, ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'', ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy'' played as Luigi and thus referred to as "Super Luigi Galaxy", and the long-awaited ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy2''), ''VideoGame/SuperMarioRPG'', three of the ''VideoGame/PaperMario'' games (''VideoGame/PaperMario64'', ''VideoGame/PaperMarioTheThousandYearDoor'', and ''VideoGame/SuperPaperMario''), two of the ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigi'' series (''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiSuperstarSaga'' and ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiPartnersInTime''), and spin-off game ''VideoGame/LuigisMansion1'' and its sequel, ''[[VideoGame/LuigisMansionDarkMoon Dark Moon]]''. [=ProtonJon=] has additionally stated in a livestream that Chugga is considering a playthrough of ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure2'', but thus far no definite plans have been revealed for that game. LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys have also done several ''Mario'' games like ''VideoGame/MarioParty'', ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBrosWii'', ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBrosU'' and ''VideoGame/NewSuperLuigiU''.

After more than two years at it, he became a Website/YouTube Partner, which was unprecedented among Let's Players (multiple others have since become partners), due to the legal "gray area" that showing game footage entails. He was also part of a collective of gamers called [=TheGameStation=] (since rebranded as Creator/{{Polaris}}), which looked to be shaping up as an [[FollowTheLeader alternative]] to Machinima.com, before he went independent some years later. Finally, he's well known for his work with Website/TheSpeedGamers, even appearing live at their home base for two separate marathons, the second of which was the first time since he started doing [=LPs=] that he's shown his face on the internet (he appeared wearing a mask in the first, and has since shown his face on countless occasions).

In January 2024, Chuggaaconroy was accused of online sexual harassment by a [=YouTuber=]. This was followed by other allegations, including evidence of sexual online chat with a 15-year-old when he was 19. As a consequence, both the Chuggaaconroy channel and the Runaway Guys went on an indefinite hiatus.

[[folder:Chugga Sticks It to Sticker Star]]
In a departure from his usual Let's Plays and the occasional skit, Chugga ended up created a series of videos on his least favorite ''VideoGame/PaperMario'' game, ''VideoGame/PaperMarioStickerStar'', in a style that would be more expected on a VideoGame AnalysisChannel. A breakdown of the game mixed with his usual brand of humor, the videos deconstruct and dissect all of the problems that plagued his experience, as well as expanding on his complicated feelings towards the shreds of genuinely good moments that evoke what ''Paper Mario'' had been in the past, and his extreme frustration at the numerous deeply flawed design choices that could have been avoided or mitigated.

----
!!Tropes included in ''Chugga Sticks It to Sticker Star'' include:
* ActuallyPrettyFunny:
** Part 2: He rants and raves about the GuideDangIt moment in Damp Oasis after spending a lot of time and effort trying to find the Faucet Thing to get rid of the sandstorm, and then losing it because he actually needed the Vacuum Thing. This trope comes into play when he enters the very next area of the level, and finds that that puzzle needs the Faucet.
** In Part 3, flashing back to the only time in the game where he considers Kersti a good character when she [[ButThouMust forces Mario to accept a tutorial]] on how to use multiple stickers at a time.
** Also in Part 3: Emile’s reaction to how the Bowling Ball Thing, re-obtained for free two levels earlier, will consistently crash the game if used against the World’s boss with an Excellent action command.
* GuideDangIt: The source of many of his annoyances.
** Of particular note in Part 3, he explains how he learned that, contrary to what he said in Part 2, Kersti was capable of giving hints to help solve puzzles. But it doesn’t raise his opinion of her at all:
-->'''Chugga''': It turns out, Kersti will give useful hints about where to find stickers…but only if you have already had that item in your inventory at least once! This defeats the entire purpose of a hint system!
* HaHaHaNo: Inverted at the end of Part 4, when Chugga talks about how he thought his first time around that Chapter 4 was the turning point where the game actually got good. In fact, the game gets even worse afterward.
* MoodWhiplash:
** His gentle, heartfelt observation of Wiggler’s diary and the effort that went into it turns into a rant about how it’s the only PermanentlyMissableContent in the whole game.
** At the conclusion of Part 4, he reflects on how Level 4 was good and how the boss actually made him feel something. Then he [[SuddenlyShouting loudly refutes the unspoken question]] as to whether it was enough to redeem the game, saying it gets worse than ever afterward.
* RuleOfThree: He brings up the game’s tendency of putting in mandatory secret exits often. The first three times he does so, all in Part 2, he follows up by sarcastically saying, “Now, there’s a concept,” his voice growing angrier each time.
[[/folder]]
----
!!His Let's Plays and other videos provide examples of:
[[folder:A-B]]
* AbandonedCatchphrase:
** He used "For the sheer fact" quite a bit in ''[=FireRed=]'', but he deliberately stops himself from doing it come ''Pokémon Crystal''.
** He started saying "But I digress" in ''VideoGame/KirbysEpicYarn'' but told himself to stop because [[LetsPlay/ClementJ642 another Let's Player]] already had that catchphrase.
* AbnormalLimbRotationRange: In his deleted tag video, Chugga claims he can turn his head 180 degrees.
* AbusiveParents: Claims the player character has these in ''Pokémon Emerald''. As an aside, he's alluded that in real life he didn't have the dad of the year either.
** Downplayed in one anecdote he relates in episode 4 of ''Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time''; his parents gave him a wallet under the guise of teaching him the value of money, telling him to always put his money in the wallet. They would then take whatever money he put into the wallet on numerous occasions when he wasn't looking. In their defense, according to Emile, they ''did'' feel terrible about it, but that sure didn't stop them.
** Played Straight In his Xenoblade 2 Let’s Play he makes he clear his father was emotionally and possibly physically abusive to Emile with him saying that it caused him to fear for his life when he was very young, and when Emile did finally cut him out of his life his father multiple times tried to gaslight and victim blame Emile to think that he was a terrible person for cutting him out of his life … attempts that thankfully failed and only made Emile cutting his father out an easier choice and reaffirms that it was the right decision.
* AccidentalInnuendo:
** In-universe, he likes pointing it out when he sees it. In particular, he found himself unable to take a certain scene in ''Majora's Mask'' seriously, due to the camera angles adding layers of VisualInnuendo for him.
** He's also prone to falling victim to this trope himself and only catching the line in question a moment or two after he's already said it. Examples include:
*** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeNTPp8V_Ko&t=7m56s He has a thing for "chests".]]
*** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-n-u2WB7VLo&t=2m00s "Luigi was gripping on to some sort of...tall, long thing."]]
*** "Bro-balls!"
*** "WHY WON'T YOU LET ME SCREW YOU, WALLY?"
*** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WbcDLfQDLI&t=562s "I actually don't have as many balls as I'd like...]] *''{{Beat}}''* ''[[AC:[[FlatWhat Wonderful..]]"]]''
*** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pGG2ai3a1U&t=15s "Entei drained me of my balls".]]
*** [[http://youtu.be/ThQrp7lkKxM?t=6m32s "Maybe people just get too caught up in the 1080p-ness of games these days. *laughter*"]]
*** ''All the time'' in his LP of ''VideoGame/LuigisMansionDarkMoon'', due to gameplay mechanics revolving around "sucking", "flashing", and (Spirit) "Balls".
-->[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XH4HjjrHc4&t=1158 "It depends on the type of mask, like if it's sunglasses, you're supposed to suck them off."]]
* AccidentalMisnaming:
** People apparently often mispronounce his name, Emile, as Eel. Chugga calls this out during ''Super Luigi Galaxy'', saying it's not that hard to pronounce.
** It is also a common occurrence for people to pronounce his name as ''[[GenderBlenderName Emily]]''. Chugga is not amused.
** He also isn't amused at Mimikins, a name given to him by his mom and brought up in ''VideoGame/SuperPaperMario''.
* AccidentalPun:
** While fighting Kingfin in ''[[VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy Super Luigi Galaxy]]'' he gets a Life Mushroom and says: "Hey, thank you! Look at that! How many bosses help you out like that? Kingfin, you are the king, man! [{{beat}}] Actually, that wasn't even an intentional...[laughs] I didn't even intend to make that pun!"
** During [[https://youtu.be/byRzHnJiszs episode 48]] of ''VideoGame/{{Okami}}'', when he's [[spoiler:in the Water Dragon's belly]], Chugga remarks that while the scenery and 'trees' are beautiful, the fact that they're the insides of a water dragon is gross.
--->'''Chugga:''' You know, these trees look really pretty, but at the same time when you think about what these trees probably are, it's kind of gross. So they're like, they're pretty gross, is what I'm saying—''they're pretty gross'', wow. I didn't even intend that pun.
** In ''Majora's Mask'''s Snowhead Temple (the main dungeon for Link's Goron form), Chugga says: "So this dungeon is off to a pretty rockin' start - I'm just making bad puns without even realizing it now".
** While at the Oho Oasis in ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiSuperstarSaga'', Merri ends up stealing his "shocking" pun and calls her out for "stealing his thunder".
** Quite a few in the Lost Tower in ''[[VideoGame/PokemonDiamondAndPearl Pokémon Platinum]]'' making several "insensitive" puns without meaning to. When he encounters a young couple, he says that whoever decided to go on a date there is a "deadbeat". Later he says that he should be able to use an Escape Rope by tying it to a tombstone and rappelling out the window, and once he realizes how distasteful this is, he says he should cut away [[DiggingYourselfDeeper "before I dig myself a hole."]]
* AdaptedOut: In as much as a Let's Play could be considered an adaptation - while his ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'' [=LPs=] have detailed bios and commentary on every Pokémon in the game by Chugga, [[SecretCharacter Mythical Pokémon]] (which can only be obtained via real life events) are almost never mentioned. At best, he'll drop a sly reference to them in places where one would encounter them (such as Ilex Forest's guardian being a tiny fairy) or use them for something (such as the Deoxys Forme-changing meteorites in Veilstone City) before promptly moving on and never mentioning them again. This is justified, however, as they're now completely unavailable in said games without cheating. However, his ''Platinum'' LP finally averts this, as he not only gives Mythical Pokémon bios, but also gives the non-Mythical Regis[[labelnote:*]]whom are catchable in ''Platinum'' via an event Regigigas[[/labelnote]] bios and describes in-game events where one would catch them.
* AGodAmI: PlayedForLaughs in his ''Super Paper Mario'' LP, while [[WalkOnWater running on water]].
--> '''Chugga:''' I'M GOD!
* AlasPoorVillain: He expresses pity for [[spoiler:Mumkhar]] after seeing his mangled and broken remains in ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1.''
* AlliterativeTitle
** The title for Episode 5 of ''Link's Awakening'' is "Big Bottle Bash Brings Back [=BowWow=]".
** The title for Episode 34 of ''Chrono Triger'' is "Giga Gaia Guru Grab Gets Gang Grim".
* AllMythsAreTrue: {{Lampshade|Hanging}}d in [[http://youtu.be/dqz4NyITxnI?t=3m13s this video]] from his ''VideoGame/{{Okami}}'' LP.
* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: In-Universe:
** ''Pikmin/Pikmin 2'': Olimar is a loose cannon adventurer with a [[AxCrazy thirst for blood]], and in the sequel, the President is [[RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething willing to get his hands dirty at exploring the dungeons. Even more so than Olimar and the Pikmin]], [[LeeroyJenkins to the point of challenging Bumbling Snitchbugs]].
** ''Majora's Mask'': The Goron Elder is a DirtyOldMan, Jim is a BadassBystander, and Zora Link is always trying to get concussions. Cremia only gave Link the Romani Mask because she thought it would be cute to see him think he's a grown-up.
** ''Pokémon Emerald'': The player character's dad (Norman) loves Wally more than his own son, Gym Leader Roxanne is a braggart who sounds like Dr. Phil, and many people in Hoenn are okay with making light of the S. S. Cactus's tragic crash and want to rob from it.
** ''Animal Crossing: New Leaf'':
*** Shari is a time-paradox zombie because Chugga switched which system he was recording on without changing the time, moving things forward a day. And she speaks in a voice that's somewhere between CreepyMonotone and Baked (though the baked part may just be Chugga's cracky voice). As the months go on, she also starts exhibit questionable behavior to the point Chugga suspects [[spoiler: she may have killed Amelia]]. And as of Valentine's Day, she may be {{Yandere}} for Chugga.
*** Pango is a manipulative {{Jerkass}} who throws away gifts without a second thought and insults the other villagers.
*** Croque as a {{Jerkass}} with no redeeming qualities who responds to everything by saying "as if". He could very well be right, since Croque is generally a jerk to Chugga every time he tries talking to him. [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold But then he showed up at Molly's party]].
** ''Pikmin 3'', Brittany is a psychotic fruit addict.
** ''Pokémon Platinum'': Dawn is a {{Jerkass}} who thinks she's a know-it-all even though she only owns a single Pokémon and garners attention to herself because she wears a sock as a hat.
** ''Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon'': E. Gadd disrespects his Toad employees to the point where he assigns to them a mansion based around what each Toad fears.
* AluminumChristmasTrees: [[invoked]] Because Chugga spent his entire childhood born and raised in Arizona, where it was hot all year round and never got any snow whatsoever, he spent his childhood believing that snow was a concept made up for ''WesternAnimation/ACharlieBrownChristmas''.
* {{Angrish}}: "DOH! FREAKING PIZZAS". See the links at HilariousOuttakes below.
** "FOR THE LOVE OF L... (beat) PEE!"
** "For the love... of... Music/HilaryDuff on a STICK! Can I attack you from the back?" [{{Beat}}] "[[FlatWhat What?]] What the hell was I just... [[LampshadeHanging That was probably the weirdest, most random thing I have ever said.]]"
** Chuggaa's inevitable encounter with the dreaded Waterwraith.
* AnnoyingVideoGameHelper:
** Invoked during his playthrough of ''{{VideoGame/Okamiden}}'' when he complains about how the GuestStarPartyMember will sometimes KillSteal an enemy before he can get the floral finisher on them to get monster parts. Chugga, however, wants a more precise version of this trope to be a thing, specifically geared towards only kill stealing from guest party members when its inconvenient ... although nothing has materialized from this request, yet.
** Subverted in his playthrough of ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiPartnersInTime''. While he becomes annoyed with the liberal tutorials early in the game, he rather likes Stuffwell, the character who gives them, and wishes he didn't have to be saddled with such a frustrating role.
** During his LP of ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaSkywardSword'', he comments upon how Fi has a tendency to repeat everything that was just said (including an instance where she translates something in a foreign language and then immediately summarizes it).
** During his LP of ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaPhantomHourglass'', he is continuously upset by Ciela's tendency to repeat everything that was just said.
* AntiClimaxBoss: In-universe.
** [[spoiler:The rematch with Pokémaniac Steve]] in ''[[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Pokémon Emerald]]'' lasts around 20 seconds.
** Shadoo, the {{superboss}} of ''VideoGame/SuperPaperMario''. After much buildup and having to go through the [[BrutalBonusLevel Flopside Pit of 100 Trials]] ''twice'' to reach him, Chugga manages to stun-lock him with Bowser's flame breath from the start of the fight. He himself can't believe it's happening.
** Despite fighting what is considered to be one of the hardest bosses from ''VideoGame/KidIcarusUprising'' at a high difficulty level, he takes down [[spoiler: Hades' Heart]] quickly, and with relative ease.
** [[invoked]] Many of the later bosses in ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiSuperstarSaga'' ended up going down in one or two turns due to the Brothers' powerful stats and equipment, especially the last battle with Fawful, who even Chugga admitted is usually ThatOneBoss.
** His opinion on the fight against Shrowser (Princess Shroob's ghost in Bowser's body) in ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiPartnersInTime''. Chugga pretty much says the fight comes out of nowhere, adds nothing to the story, and takes away from the previous FinalBoss fight with Princess Shroob which was in every way superior.
** From ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'':
*** His battles against almost every [[OlympusMons Legendary Pokémon]] end hilariously quickly, with Chugga only having to throw a couple of balls to catch them... usually before Emile could even finish their bios. Emile ended up becoming increasingly disappointed with how easy he was capturing the game's Legendaries and kept wishing for one to give him a decent challenge.
*** The final battle for the entire series saw Chugga rematching [[{{Superboss}} Cynthia]], really talking her up as one of if not ''the'' hardest trainer in the game (along with Alder). He starts off the battle by spending three turns maxing out Ottawa the Samurott's Attack Stat by spamming Swords Dance before healing off the damage and sweeping Cynthia's entire team. The only Pokémon that really ''could'' have caused Emile any problem was Cynthia's Garchomp, who got outsped by Samurott's priority move coupled with the ludicrous bad luck of missing with Dragon Rush.
* AprilFoolsDay:
** In 2009, he did the ''VideoGame/MegaMan2'' joke LP.
** In 2011, he tweeted that LP #14 would be ''Pikmin 2''. LP #14 was actually ''Luigi's Mansion'', but LP #''15'', starting the day after ''Luigi's Mansion'', WAS ''Pikmin 2''.
** In 2020, Chugga uploaded an LP of ''VideoGame/SuperMarioLand''. It's a completely legitimate LP unlike ''Mega Man 2'', with the jokiness coming from how short the game is (it's Chugga's shortest LP at 35 minutes, and was uploaded during the LP of ''Kirby Triple Deluxe'') and the fact that the game features the first appearance of Princess Daisy, a character with an infamous connection with Chugga thanks to LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys, but who hadn't appeared in any games Chugga had played until then. Although he does consider it as official Let’s play #44, [[CanonDiscontinuity unlike his]] ''[[CanonDiscontinuity Mega Man 2]]'' [[CanonDiscontinuity Let’s Play]].
* ApologisesALot: Has a tendency to apologize immediately after making a bad joke or pun, although this doesn't really apply to him in LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys.
* ArousedByTheirVoice: According to the ''Splatoon 2'' LP, he thinks [[WesternAnimation/DonkeyKongCountry the cartoon Donkey Kong]] has a sexy singing voice.
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: From Pikmin 2, Episode 24:
--> '''Chugga''': (While attacking an Armored Cannon Larva) DESTROY! KILL! MAIM! ...Taunt.
** He does this in ''VideoGame/{{Okamiden}}'''s Episode 40:
--> '''Chugga''': Freaking DESTROY! KILL! MAIM...and MAKE THEIR DAYS UNPLEASANT! Kill! Destroy! And then... [[BlowYouAway *uses Galestorm*]] blow on them!
* ArtifactTitle: His username is supposed to be Chugga A. Conroy, but he found that most websites don't allow spaces or punctuation in their usernames, leading to the somewhat strange moniker of Chuggaaconroy. [[note]]This was before Website/YouTube allowed such names to be used, but it's been spelled and pronounced that way too long for it to be changed[[/note]]
* ArtificialStupidity: In ''VideoGame/{{Pikmin}}'' and its sequel, the titular species frequently disobey his orders and sometimes [[TooDumbToLive get into hazardous situations.]]
--> '''Chugga''': Pikmin AI...
** In episode 7 of ''Pokémon Colosseum'', the A.I. trainers use moves that don't affect ghost types on Chugga's Misdreavus ''twelve times.'' This cracked him up so much that he made Misdreavus a permanent member of his team.
** Again, in the Finale of the ''VideoGame/PokemonColosseum'' LP, [[spoiler:[[FinalBoss Evice]] had the victory in the palm of his hand. It looked grim for Chugga and his team, when suddenly... Evice decided, for ''both'' of his moves, to use an X Attack on each of his Pokémon.]] Cue a FreakOut from Chugga.
** In ''Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness'', the trainers use not very effective moves against Chugga's Aron ''constantly'', in a lot of circumstances when the other Pokémon that's out would take super effective damage from it. And because of Aron's absurdly high physical defense, they always wind up only doing one or two damage a hit. He gets smart about this later, teaching Aron Protect, knowing that special attacker Pokémon will go for it (even though Protect gets move priority) due to its subpar special defense.
** In ''Xenoblade'', he considers the AI outside of battle to be hilarious in how it has trouble performing the most basic tasks like walking into elevators and climbing up vines.
** In ''Pikmin 3'', he orders two squads of Rock Pikmin to carry two fruit across a bridge and to the Drake. The first squad does fine. The second, on the other hand, opts to go ''under the bridge,'' '''through water.'''[[note]][[SuperDrowningSkills Pikmin that aren't Blue can't swim.]][[/note]] Not only does Chugga very nearly lose a bunch of Rock Pikmin to their own stupidity, the fruit he was forced to abandon was stranded indefinitely until he acquired Blue Pikmin. [[spoiler: Fortunately for him, the fruit spawned the following day ''atop'' the bridge, allowing him to collect it.]]
** In ''Pokémon Platinum'', Barry orders his Chimchar to use Leer nonstop in lieu of using attacking moves; between that and other factors like confusion, Chugga goes through the first two battles without taking a single point of damage.
** In episode 56 of ''Pokémon White 2'', a Basculin outspeeds Pignati. It has a type advantage on him, but instead of taking him out with a water type move, the Ace Trainer elects to use ''Soak'' on Pignati, which turned Pignati into a water type resistant to water instead of a weak fire type.
* AttackAttackRetreatRetreat: He's subject to this in Super Luigi Galaxy when he doesn't get everything in a volcano that's filling up with lava.
--> '''Chugga''': [[RapidFireNo Nonononononono]] go back down go back down!
--> '''Chugga''': ''*lands in the volcano, and sees it filling with lava.*''
--> '''Chugga''': [[OhCrap Oh wait, no! Go back up go back up go back up!]] Oh jeez, [[LampshadeHanging I can't make up my frickin mind.]]
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny:
** It's not exactly unheard of for him to get distracted during ramblings or walking to get something, significant or not. Possibly the funniest example is in his first episode of the ''Luigi's Mansion'' LP:
--> '''Chugga:''' ''"...and hopefully we'll find some trace of Mario-" *coins pop out of a drawer* "OOH! COINS! MONEY! SHINY! (Beat) Wow, I got easily distracted from that outro. Well, see you next time! [[LampshadeHanging And no, I do not have ADHD.]]"''
** Sometimes he'll be explaining something, only to get distracted and never explain it again (or take a while to remember it). In episode 25 of ''Pikmin 2'', he got distracted ''twice'' within ''a minute'' of each other:
--> '''Chugga:''' ''"If I'm not mistaken, that is the first Wollywog death we've had that there is a Skitterleaf, they're in the water...[[TemptingFate they're pretty harmless-]]" *Olimar and Louie both get knocked over by an attack* "-I say that and he knocks over both the captains!" *Louie gets hit again* "Then he knocks over Louie! He knocks over both captains at the same time, that was pretty good. The leaf doesn't really give that many Pikmin though and dang those leaves look really nice. Impressive for [[Platform/NintendoGameCube GameCube]] standards, that's for dang sure." *cut to a different scene and he never finishes his original sentence about the Wollywog*''
** It happens again in ''Pikmin 2'' Episode 46.
-->'''Chugga:''' ''"Um, I'm actually playing with a different controller, as if anybody cared. I'm playing using a -- Wow, it ate a white and died."''
*** He never finished the sentence.
** In ''Super Paper Mario'', every time he sees Bowser's flailing arms, he stops what he was saying.
* AudienceAwarenessAdvantage[[invoked]]:
** Chugga mentions this in regards to the news and gaming, and has his own personal version where they should know all the technical ins and outs of game hardware as he does.
** [[RunningGag He also frequently mocks the in-game trainers and wild Pokémon of]] ''[[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Pokémon Emerald]]'', for not thinking as strategically and in-depth about the implications of usages of moves as he does.
* AudienceParticipation: Several examples:
** Fans proposed nicknames for his Yoshi partner (nicknamed Scrap).
** In ''VideoGame/PokemonColosseum'', fans had chance to propose nicknames for for his Pokémon (and win [[LargeHam FABULOUS PRIZES]]). Audience-created nicknames eventually became a recurring trend for his Pokémon [=LPs=] going forward, usually accompanied with an appropriate tag to flag participants.
** His LP of ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossingNewLeaf'' was entirely built on this concept - fans decided about nearly everything in his town, from its name to new public works projects.
** Additionally, he often reads comments under his videos and takes some ideas from them - for example, in ''VideoGame/KidIcarusUprising'' LP he often used weapons suggested by fans.
** A downplayed example, but certainly an effective one. At the end of his ''[=EarthBound=]'' remake, [[spoiler:he makes the player name "All of us". During the final battle, who lands the final blow? ''All of us'']].
* AuthorTract: He's not obnoxious about it, but he does tend to go into monologues about some obscure/less loved thing or character, in a way that sounds as if it were as obvious to everyone as to him.
* AwesomeByAnalysis: He has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Franchise/{{Pokemon}} games and uses it to great effect in his [=LPs=] of them, often quoting detailed statistics about damage multipliers in specific situations (and [[ArtificialStupidity mocking the AI]] for choosing attacks which are ineffective in that situation). Albeit most kids who grew up with the games and played past VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire could do the same thing, if only because they inevitably wound up at Website/{{Smogon}} somehow.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic[[invoked]]: In-universe when Chugga points out game music he considers to be examples of this trope:
** He really likes Miror B.'s music from ''VideoGame/PokemonColosseum''.
** In ''Super Luigi Galaxy'', he looks forward to Battlerock Galaxy for its music.
** He considers the music in Jolly Roger Bay from ''VideoGame/SuperMario64'' as one of the best songs he has ever heard.
** He considers the star shooter music in ''VideoGame/KirbysEpicYarn'' to be the most uplifting music ever.
** He loves the background music from Ryoshima Coast in ''{{VideoGame/Okami}}'', to the point he used it for the introduction video when he started [=LPing=] the series. He also says the updated Ryoshima Coast theme from ''{{VideoGame/Okamiden}}'' actually surpassed the original.
** Speaking of ''{{VideoGame/Okamiden}}'' Chugga has stated the soundtrack to this game is actually his favorite of all time (which he admits is unusual given on how soon that game came out back in the day). In particular, he has said the music of the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlpu8ieHsdg Underground Ruins]] and the music that plays during the mini-game to get to Thunder Cloud are not only the best music in all of the ''Ōkami'' series (barring the finale music), but his favorite pieces of video game music of all time.
** He absolutely loves the Dragon Roost Island theme from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTheWindWaker'', to the point he actually starts a video begging the King of Red Lions to let him skip out on defeating Ganon just so he can spend the rest of his life on the island listening to the awesome music.
** He considers [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ol5k02RRYhY the theme to the first phase of the final boss]] in ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1'' to be not only one of his favorite songs in the game, but one of his favorite songs ''period''.
* BadassAdorable:
** [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] in his ''The Wind Waker'' LP, when he says "Cuteness never looked so badass."
** [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] in ''VideoGame/{{Okamiden}}'' as a {{call back}} when Chibiterasu and Kuni became partners.
** Chamomile from the ''Pokémon Mystery Dungeon'' LP is a cute little Skitty, who defeats his foes with always-accurate Double Slaps dealing hundreds of hit points of damage, and Blizzards that clear out entire rooms. Given that Skitty is much stronger in ''Pokémon Mystery Dungeon'' than in the main series, this is also an example of AdaptationalBadass.
* BagOfHolding: Refers to this trope by name during his Colosseum LP, and even refers to it as a Trope.
* BeCarefulWhatYouSay:
** Chugga has started the [[MemeticMutation Steve Meme AND the NO coin left behind movement]], which he {{lampshade|Hanging}}d:
--> '''Chugga''': I know you guys will not like that for the no coins left behind movement which you ''ACTUALLY STARTED!'' I gotta watch what I say.
** In episode 26 of ''Pikmin 2'', he notes how the [[spoiler:Water Wraith]] hasn't spawned yet in the Submerged Castle. [[YouJustHADToSayIt It spawns IMMEDIATELY after he does so.]]
--> '''Chugga''': I JUST HAD TO OPEN MY MOUTH! AS SOON AS I SAID IT! YOU SUCK!!
** And when he wanted to die to get more money.
** Billy the Ghost Shroom from ''Super Paper Mario'' Episode 10 already has a Facebook page.
** In his ''Super Paper Mario'' LP, Mimi says "you can call me Mimikins." He reveals that his mom called him Mimikins when he was three.
--> '''Chugga''': I'm probably gonna regret telling the Internet this but...
* BerserkButton:
** He goes to Beedle's shop and gives him the complimentary card, hoping for something good. He gets nothing. So he uses all 99 of his bombs trying to blow up Beedle's ship.
--> '''Chugga''': DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE!
** And then, in VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaPhantomHourglass, when it turns out that the compliment card was used to just give Beedle a compliment, [[BrickJoke he once more unloads his bombs into Beedle's ship again]].
** Ever since ''VideoGame/{{Pikmin}}'' ended, he doesn't like to hear about Steve (or any red leaf Pikmin), and goes out of his way to avoid mentioning him in any and all future [=LPs=] ([[ZigZaggedTrope usually]]). LetsPlay/ProtonJon torments him with this in LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys, but those instances are for that page.
*** During TRG's LP of ''Pikmin'', Jon named his first red Pikmin [[GratuitousSpanish Estaban]]. Emile never commented on it until Jon brought it up. Emile, [[SouthOfTheBorder who can at least understand]] if not speak Spanish, [[ActuallyPrettyFunny thought it was clever.]]
** LetsPlay/TomFawkes joked in the ''Videogame/LuigisMansionDarkMoon'' LP that a GenderFlip Emile would be called Emily, he managed to hold it in but due to all the AccidentalMisnaming from his childhood was it easy to hear that he was annoyed.
-->Emile: ''"Well I'm dark so it'd atleast be with an A."''
** Emile has gone on the record to say that ''VideoGame/PaperMarioStickerStar'' is the game that he dislikes the most. This is exemplified during a moment in LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys let's play of ''VideoGame/SuperMetroid'', where [[LetsPlay/ProtonJon Jon]] implies that the only reason he dislikes the game is due to his own impatience. This sends him into somewhat of a nerd rage.
*** This is furthered by Emile explaining that, due to someone asking, [[https://www.facebook.com/chuggaaconroy/posts/10154757696593175 he's made a 3800+ word essay on why he doesn't like Sticker Star and will link it to anyone who will ask.]] You read that right, '''3800+ WORDS.'''.
-->Emile: '''"Dude, I 100% that game, and it still sucked [[PrecisionFStrike ass]] more then anything in my [[PrecisionFStrike goddamn]] life!"'''
** From ''Black 2 & White 2'', Daylight Savings Time. Merely mentioning this being a reason why a particular time-based event exploit works sends him into a rant about how it has done nothing good for anyone up until now (not even the farmers who are commonly attributed to its creation). He feels so strongly about this that when [[ItMakesSenseInContext time rewinds back to the reality Blaise is in, He's still ranting about it in the same location.]]
* BetterThanABareBulb: Chugga is exceedingly fond of LampshadeHanging, to the point where he points out almost every single trope that happens in the game, whether it be in something that he says or even the way he plays. Basically, if it's there, he's probably hung a lampshade on it.
* BigNo:
** Seen throughout, but especially at the end of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lrh4AnNpTVM this video]] around 15:30.
** On occasion says "NO!". When reading [[VideoGame/SuperMarioRPG Smithy's]] dialogue, he'd have some epic ones.
** [[http://youtu.be/Bas5GxbAdAs?t=14m39s This clip]] from a bonus episode of his ''VideoGame/PokemonColosseum'' LP.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBVHI270SKU This Youtube video]] is a compilation of every one of these from Mario Party 1 thru 3 (Runaway Guys).
%%** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FbsqirWZSU&t=8m40s This one.]]
* BigOMG:
** Many times, including an infamous example from his ''[[VideoGame/PokemonGoldAndSilver Pokémon Crystal]]'' LP, when he caught a shiny Koffing.
*** This one got upstaged ''majorly'' by Bonus Episode 2 of his ''Pokémon Emerald'' LP, where he caught a [[OlympusMons Groudon]] with a Nest Ball at ''nearly full health''. Needless to say, he shatters our eardrums.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBYCR6lpxsI&t=9m40s The finale]] of his ''VideoGame/PokemonColosseum'' LP, where [[spoiler:Chugga at the end has only Marshall against Evice's Machamp and Tyranitar. [[IdiotBall Five points for guessing what Evice did]].]]
** Borders on the LP's RunningGag during his ''VideoGame/Pikmin2'' videos, especially when it involves enemies getting the drop on him.
** Happens thrice in ''Superstar Saga'', where his luck nets him three Golden Beanies, the rarest enemies in the game.
* BigWhat:
** When things don't go well for him he usually does this. His famous freakout from ''VideoGame/{{Pikmin}}'' actually provided the page quote. In his ''[[VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy Super Luigi Galaxy]]''-run, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-n-u2WB7VLo&t=8m11s he even combined this]] with a [[LaughingMad mad laugh]] one or two times.
** '''''Within the first five minutes''''' of ''VideoGame/MarioParty2'', Wario already got a star by way of hidden block. Chugga and Masae cannot believe what they're seeing.
** This gets turned up to eleven when Chugga and Masae play Mystery Land and Luigi ends up getting '''''three hidden blocks all containing stars'''''. Masae even says outright no one would have believed them if they had not been recording.
** Another one in Episode 33 of his ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiSuperstarSaga'' LP, after his [[SuddenlyShouting massive freakout]] after obtaining the [[InfinityPlusOneArmor Casual Coral wear]]. To be fair, he had never gotten the Casual Coral before in any playthrough of his...
** Yet another one in Episode 27 of his redone ''[=EarthBound=]'' LP, where he explains Musica's rare random drop...only to get that exact drop after one battle with a Musica.
* BilingualBonus: In episode 36 of ''Ōkamiden'', he writes the kanji for "God" (神, ''kami'') on Chibi's mask.
* BizarreHumanBiology:
-->'''Telephone:''' Now come on ride the train. [[SpeakingLikeTotallyTeen Outie 5000.]]\
'''Emile:''' What do you know about my outie (bellybutton)? The fact that I have 5000 of them? You were peeping when I was naked, weren't you?
* BookEnds:
** He starts out his ''Majora's Mask'' LP with all three C-buttons empty, like the game forces. He ends the first half of the finale the same way.
** He played ''Super Paper Mario'', beginning the game as Mario, and ending the final bonus episode as Mario.
** In Episode 12 of ''Kirby's Epic Yarn'' it starts and ends with Kirby [[IdleAnimation jumping rope]] and then falling, purposefully.
** ''Pokémon Colosseum'' starts and ends with Chugga talking over the pre-title screen intro movie.
** The first song K.K. Slider plays in Chugga's Let's Play of ''New Leaf'' is "Bubblegum K.K." On the last K.K. Slider concert of the Let's Play's ''Welcome amiibo'' continuation, he plays the same song. Chugga [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] this.
** In ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'', Emile begins his journey with Ottawa as an Oshawott who ends the journey as a Samurott, who sweeps through Cynthia's team.
* BornLucky:
** He hits the jackpot dozens upon dozens of times in his first ''VideoGame/PaperMario64'' [=LPs=], having the Pretty Lucky badge save him from many dangerous attacks, [[CursedWithAwesome the curse]] increase his attack at ''very'' opportune moments (such as when he's using a Power Bounce) and getting his Star Points doubled after boss battles. IIRC, he probably only died once in the entirety of both games, and [[AutoRevive that was]] [[DeathIsCheap willingly]] to [[OptionalBoss The Anti-Guy Unit]]. As if that wasn't enough to convince you, go see his fight against [[spoiler:Macho Grubba]] in ''Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door''. Despite [[spoiler:Grubba]] boosting his attack, speed, and his double attacks, NOT A SINGLE ATTACK hit Mario. Chugga basically walloped him without breaking a sweat.
** Chugga wanted a Koffing for his team during his play of ''Pokémon Crystal''. So naturally the very next Pokémon he runs into after telling us this is a shiny one. He was a bit [[BigOMG excited.]]
** In his ''Pokémon Crystal'' LP when he caught a Phanpy, he checked its stats. Save for HP they were all [[LuckySeven 7]].
** In ''Pikmin 2'', he cracked open three different eggs in the same area, at the same time... and got three purple potions. Considering that he was perpetually low on purple potions for most of this LP...
** ''[[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Pokémon Emerald]]'', when battling [[spoiler:Steven]], Kappa gets '''4 critical hits in 5 turns'''. That kind of stuff usually never happens.
** In his ''Super Mario Sunshine'' LP: "How often do you survive the instant kill spikes?!"
--> '''Chugga''': ''What now, Mega Man? Huh? WHAT NOW?!''
** During a battle with Venus in ''Pokémon Colosseum'', Chugga's Granbull is paralyzed, confused, and in love with Venus's Wigglytuff, mathematically giving him a 12.5% chance of actually attacking. As Chugga describes this, Granbull uses Strength on Wigglytuff, knocking it down to half health.
** During the final battle of ''Pokémon Colosseum'', Chugga was down to his last Pokémon, but [[spoiler: Evice uses two X Attacks when he could have finished Chuggga off]], allowing him to win.
** In Part 10 of ''Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga'', the first Pestnut he cracks open [[spoiler: was a [[MetalSlime Gold Beanie]], which he managed to defeat. He eventually comes across two more in that episode, and none of them ran.]]
** In his revisit to ''Animal Crossing'', he gets the birdseed item from Harvey on Day 4. For reference, the odds of that happening are so rare that people ''who have been playing every day'' since ''Welcome amiibo'' came out have yet to get it. Then, he gets it again just three days later.
** Chugga starts with an Oshawott for ''Pokémon Black and White''. Said Oshawott is female, which has a 12.5% chance of occuring in starters.
** His luck even extends to real life as well: [[https://mobile.twitter.com/chuggaaconroy/status/1188119842819362817 How else can you explain this?]]
** According to [[Characters/TheRunawayGuys Adriana Figueroa]], Emile played this trope straighter than straight. His birth weight was literally 7 pounds, 7.7 ounces.
** His second episode of ''Discardables'' ends with him doing a Pack Opening on camera. He was prepared to open until he found a card he didn't own. [[spoiler:The last card in his first pack was a new one for him, and a Secret Rare at that!]]
** In Episode 5 of his ''Paper Mario'' redux LP, he decides to challenge [[{{Superboss}} The Master]] for shits and giggles. The Master gets him to 5/10 HP, but thanks to his Close Call and Pretty Lucky badges, he manages to evade what would be a lethal attack [[LuckySeven seven]] times in a row. He doesn't win, but it was still impressive.
** Throughout Chapter 6 of the ''Paper Mario'' remake, Amazee Dayzees [[note]]a MetalSlime that has a random chance of replacing the Crazee Dayzees when entering an area with them[[/note]] start appearing so often that Chugga starts ''ignoring'' some of them for the sake of not being horribly overleveled.
** Not him this time: While showcasing the version differences in ''Pokémon Black 2'', he reveals Tim caught a [[MetalSlime shiny Minccino]] at full odds because he was bored and wanted to shiny hunt. It was the Pokémon he wanted, too!
** In episode 85 of ''VideoGame/PokemonBlack2AndWhite2'', he catches Regice (a Pokémon with a catch rate of 3) in a Quick Ball on turn 1.
* BreakingOldTrends: In every ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'' game he's played up to ''[[VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite Black and White]]'', Chugga has routinely played as the male player character. In ''[[VideoGame/PokemonBlack2AndWhite2 Black 2 and White 2]]'', however, this all changes through him playing as the female player character.
* BreatherLevel: In-universe; Chugga considers [[VideoGame/Pikmin2 Glutton's Kitchen]] to be this. [[spoiler:Which was subverted when he ended up losing the largest amount of Pikmin up to that point.]]
* BrickJoke:
** One episode of his ''Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door'' LetsPlay was titled "This Video Ends With "Bitch" at the very beginning[[labelnote:*]]For reference, this is Chapter 3 Episode 7; the title is only present in the video's title card[[/labelnote]]. At the very end:
--> '''Chugga''': ''Highly inappropriate?! [[ItMakesSenseInContext We're walking down the fricking hall!]] Bitch!''
** In episode 49 of ''Majora's Mask'', when he starts the Anju & Kafei quest, he begins the video by playing ''Skyward Sword'' and lamenting that ''Majora's Mask'' doesn't have a run button. At the very end of the next video when he's finished with the quest, he says that it (either the in-game Heartwarming Moments or the Couple's Mask) was worth the lack of a run button.
*** This sets up another Brick Joke; in episode 49 of ''Skyward Sword'', he begins the video by playing ''Breath of the Wild'' and lamenting how ''Skyward Sword'' lacks an upgradeable stamina meter.
** In ''Super Paper Mario'', in chapter 2, he mentions his mom's EmbarrassingNickname for him when he was little, Mimikins. He also names the Ghost Shroom he uses Billy. Both were brought up again in the last few videos of the LP.
** In ''Animal Crossing: New Leaf'', Chugga writes a letter to Shari that involves him [[ItMakesSenseInContext apologizing for making her a paradox zombie]]. Nearly four months of real life (and in-game) time later on Valentine's Day, a nostalgic Shari shows him the letter again, making him burst into laughter.
** Also in ''Animal Crossing: New Leaf'', on Molly's birthday Croque tells Emile that he looks like the type of person to give someone socks for their birthday. Four months later, he actually does give Croque a pair of socks for his birthday.
** In ''VideoGame/PokemonColosseum'', Chugga makes fun of how when you get a beverage from a vending machine the last two words of the message (in this case, "Wes put the LEMONADE away") are in a separate text box. When he uses a vending machine in ''VideoGame/{{Pokemon XD|Gale of Darkness}}'', he's surprised to find that the message is split up properly.
* BriefAccentImitation:
** As of 2011 has noted that he tends to slip into a vaguely Indian accent when reading out the dialogue of any 'quirky' character; in ''Majora's Mask'' he also does an Australian accent for any character who uses words like 'oi' or 'mate'. Also, in the Snowhead Temple in ''Majora's Mask'', he does a terrible Asian accent a couple of times (mostly when saying what he imagines the viewers would say), lampshading it each time.
** In ''Pokémon Black 2 & White 2'' he briefly gives Mr. Stu Deeoh a French accent (which sometimes sounds like Arnold Schwarzenegger), he claims he'll stop but is right back into the accent after a moment.
* BringIt: [[spoiler:He goes into the last stage of ''Kid Icarus: Uprising'' on the highest difficulty possible, saying the following:]]
-->'''Chugga''': [[spoiler:"...Or rather, that's what I would be saying, if I wasn't saying '''''BRING IT ON!!!'''''"]]
** The best part is he actually beats the last stage at max difficulty, which is extremely hard considering there's lots of stuff flying at you in the first three stages. The last two aren't as hard, but still.
* BrokenPedestal: ''Pikmin 2''. At the end of the LP he decides that he thought the game was better than it was because it took him years to hunt down a copy, and wanting is better than having.
* BuffySpeak: A common occurrence, like during [[VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy the Melty Molten Galaxy]]:
-->'''Chugga''': "Let's feed him the things. The things, stuff, things, and yaaay! "Transfoooorm!" Wow, he's flying right into the place where the two lava things connect."
** And then we have this gem from his ''Pokémon Crystal'' LP and lampshaded with the labels:
-->'''Chugga''': "It's that thing! The thing with the stuff and the thing from the thing!"
--> (as he says this, pictures of Suicune, Entei, Raikou and Tin Tower appear with arrows pointing to them and the words Chugga notes next to them. For Raikou, it's labeled as 'Other Thing' and Tin Tower's label is 'Thing they happen to be from.')
* TheBusCameBack: In Episode 67 of ''Pokémon Platinum'': [[spoiler:he transfers his entire team from ''Pokémon Emerald'' via the Pal Park.]]
* ButterflyOfDoom: Chugga praises ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger'' for not using this trope, unlike some other TimeTravel stories where things would go wrong because of one slight alteration to the past.
* ButThouMust: ''Never'' actually give Chugga a purely cosmetic yes/no option of this type, because he ''will'' keep choosing "[[BigNo NO!!]]" for RuleOfFunny.
** His usual response is averted at the end of ''VideoGame/SuperPaperMario'''s Episode 39.
-->'''Chugga:''' And you guys thought I was going to do the [[BigNo epic no]] when she was asking me if I'd go look for that girl. Who am I to turn down that kind of request? I'm not a jerk, you know.
* ButtMonkey:
** Trifecta the Dodrio in the ''Pokémon XD'' LP had a really bad streak of getting knocked out in the main story, due to how frail her defenses are, and having poor luck with critical hits. Although, according to his Twitter, Trifecta carried the team throughout the upper levels of Mt. Battle.
** Hex the Cryogonal, in contrast to the rest of Chugga's ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'' team, has the ''worst'' Nature possible (Impish, which cuts its Special Attack to raise [[DumpStat its completely useless Defense]]), and its name was chosen partly because of this. It also has a habit of fainting a lot, especially during its debut episode.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:C-E]]
* CallASmeerpARabbit: He occasionally refers to the Pikmin as carrots. It's a subtle reference, as in-game, Olimar named the little creatures after a common food back on Hocotate, Pikpik Carrots. Even better, those kind of carrots do come in yellow and blue varieties.
* CallBack: When he does a game that's in the same series as one he's already played, Chugga will usually quote something that he once said during the original LP. Or whenever he feels like.
** He nicknames his Torchic in ''Emerald'' [[VideoGame/{{Okami}} Moegami]], even going as far as saying it's a call back to an older LP.
*** Later on, he catches a Phanpy in the Safari Zone and names it Darmani as a reference to his ''Crystal'' LP.
** A shorter-range example, he notices that the final boss of ''Majora's Mask'' does the same dance that the [=ReDeads=] from a few episodes ago did, and makes the joke again.
** In Episode 33 of ''Skyward Sword'', he points out that 80% is not a reliable percentage because he once had attacks with 85% hit chances miss on him 60% of the time, referencing his ''VideoGame/PokemonPlatinum'' let's play.
** In Episode 49 of ''Skyward Sword'', he opens the episode lamenting giving up ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaBreathOfTheWild Breath of the Wild]]''[='=]s bigger stamina wheel, referencing how he opened Episode 49 of his ''Majora's Mask'' LP lamenting giving up ''Skyward Sword''[='=]s run button.
** He opens his second playthrough of ''VideoGame/{{EarthBound|1994}}'' with a CallBack to the intro from his ''first'' playthrough, which are notably the first words ever spoken on his channel.
-->'''Chuggaaconroy:''' What's goin' on, guys? This is Chuggaaconroy, and I'm actually, I'm gonna do my ''37th'' LP ever, one of my favorite games, ''[=EarthBound=]''. Probably a game that you've heard of due to its critical acclaim and the many re-releases it's seen across the last several years. Certainly, a game like this doesn't ''need'' someone getting the word out.
** After Paula joins his team in Episode 10 of his second playthrough of ''[=EarthBound=]'', he exits the cabin while gushing about the teddy bear she has, and gets attacked by a Spiteful Crow, leading to an unintentional reference to his [[Funny/ChuggaaconroyOkami Ōkami]] and [[Funny/ChuggaaconroyOkamiden Ōkamiden]] Let's Play's.
--> '''Chugga:''' "I'll tell you right away, I'm glad I met a lady who has the same good taste in items that I-" (He turns to the side, and a Spiteful Crow back attacks him, giving it the first attack) [[Funny/ChuggaaconroyOkami "WHADDAYA MEAN THAT'S A BACK ATTACK?"]]
** In Episode 64 of ''Pokémon White 2'', he catches a Clefairy in a Hidden Grotto (with [[PowerupLetdown the shitty Ability of Friend Guard]]) and names it "Poopernova" after his Clefable Supernova from the ''Platinum'' LP.
* CallForward:
** In an episode of his Let's Play of ''Majora's Mask'', he mentions how hilarious it was to watch Tim (LetsPlay/NintendoCapriSun) get to the hidden Jigglypuff fight in LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys' let's play of ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosBrawl''.
---> Chugga knows the video hasn't been uploaded, so he keeps spoilers to a minimum.
** In Episode 12 of his ''Pokémon White'' LP, while on Thumb Pier in Castelia City, he says "it smells like there's a sewer entrance or something around here." In ''VideoGame/PokemonBlack2AndWhite2'', the entrance to Castelia Sewers is indeed located here.
* TheCameo:
** In Episode 1 of the ''Splatoon'' Let's Play, at about 4:08 LetsPlay/MasaeAnela can be heard saying "Stop yourself" after Chugga does an attempt at JiveTurkey to describe the game's [[https://youtu.be/L6a2SBRT1jA?list=PL_sYhAj0WXRONg6qA-yPVkALd8sBi1lSh&t=238 aesthetic.]]
** In Episode 10 of the ''Splatoon 2'' Let's Play, LetsPlay/JoshJepson happens to be playing by sheer coincidence when Chugga's testing out the Carbon Roller in Turf War.
** In Episode 49 of the ''Splatoon 2'' LP, Tim happens to walk in as soon as Emile says [[BorrowedCatchphrase "two times in a row, man!"]] He repeats his own catchphrase for the audience.
* CensorBox: Played for laughs in his LP of ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'' when discussing Keldeo and the apparent obsession with official media showing its backside. LetsPlay/MasaeAnela, who made art for the LP, placed one on its rear with "WHY?" written on it while drawing the mythical Pokémon.
* CharacterCatchphrase: Loads and loads.
** Whenever he says the word "NO!", he'll say it the same way Robotnik did in that one episode of ''WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog'', as seen in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6BL6QvKljo this video clip]].
** In ''Pokémon Colosseum'', when describing certain Pokémon or their moves, he'll say, "It's interesting to say the least."
** "I'm not gonna lie..."
** "Nintendo Logic.", whenever something happens in the game that doesn't make sense. He states that he actually got this from someone else in his LP of ''Super Mario Sunshine''.
*** Somewhat less frequently, but he also uses "Pokémon Logic" on occasion.
** "[[{{VideoGame/Okami}} Whaddya mean I did badly on time!?]]"
*** "[[{{VideoGame/Okamiden}} Whaddya mean I don't work well with others!?]]''
** "Thank you, for dying!" Whenever he defeats a particularly annoying enemy.
** "''Ex-CUSE me!''" whenever an enemy/obstacle damages him, especially during his ramblings. This is more of a reference to ''[[WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfZelda1989 The Legend of Zelda]]'' animated series, more specifically the way Link says "WellExcuseMePrincess".
** In his ''Thousand-Year Door'' LetsPlay, at the end of every chapter he would [[NoIndoorVoice yell:]]
--> '''"YOU GOT A CRYSTAL STAR!... AND YOU LEARNED THE SPECIAL MOVE [name of new special move]! END OF CHEE-APTER!"'''
*** And now he did it with ''Super Paper Mario'', only instead of Crystal Stars, it's Pure Hearts.
*** He will occasionally yell something, though not as hammy as in ''Paper Mario'', that follows the pattern of "YOU GOT A [object here]" that sounds like the Crystal Star line.
** A bit of a lesser example is "Shiny... is... good."
** In his ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTheWindWaker Wind Waker]]'' LP, he will often say "You/I got the thiiiiiing!" upon opening a large treasure chest. He even {{lampshade|Hanging}}s this.
** In his ''VideoGame/Pikmin2'' and ''VideoGame/LuigisMansion1'' [=LPs=], he has taken to saying "D'oh I missed!" (referencing Wario's losing quote in ''VideoGame/MarioParty'') whenever he misses an enemy or target. He's also been referencing ''[[VideoGame/KnyttStories Don't Eat the Mushroom]]'' whenever a poison mushroom shows up in ''Luigi's Mansion'', even though LetsPlay/ProtonJon isn't around for him to annoy.
*** Similarly he often imitates Mario's losing quote from the same games, "Ohh nooooooo!", often in a FelonyMisdemeanor way.
** When he gets annoyed in games related to Shigeru Miyamoto, Chugga often shouts "MIYAMOTO!" out of rage.
** If he gets two of something at one time, he goes "Two for the price of one, gramma!"
** (After being jumped by an enemy) "Hey buddy how's it going!"
** From ''Pokémon Emerald'', not an example, but a severe LampshadeHanging: "...so very nice....And I keep saying "very nice"! It's like the new "sheer fact", the new "whatever", the new..."guys", the new..."one second, time's up", the new... other overused things that I say."
** Videos often end with "I think we're gonna end things off here".
** After saying something will be easy and then screwing it up: "Shut up. Shut up."
** After using a shortcut (or more often, accidentally stumbling on a new one in the course of the LP) he shouts "[[ToolAssistedSpeedrun SPEEDRUNNING TACTICS!]]"
** When preparing for a difficult looking section of a game, you can expect to hear "Now, uh... How do I wanna go about this?"
** Chugga has a tendency to say "I'm a fan of X" in situations where most people would just say "I like X" - for example "I'm a fan of this starting moveset".
** Occasionally makes me makes a really obvious IncrediblyLamePun he'll follow up with "OK, I couldn't resist!"
** In the redone ''VideoGame/{{EarthBound|1994}}'' LP, every time he mentions a version difference from the Japanese version of the game, he usually would begin by saying "In Japan..."
** "What do you say?" whenever he talks to [=NPCs=].
* CharacterExaggeration: Does this to ''himself''. Whenever his voice cracks or sounds a little odd while talking, he'll make fun of it and exaggerate the flaw tenfold.
* CherryTapping: In ''[[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Pokémon Emerald]]'', after he gets pissed off during a gym leader fight by his enemy repeatedly healing his star ''Pokémon'', he deliberately does nothing the last turn, letting the residue of a burn he already inflicted finish off the enemy as an insult.
* {{Cliffhanger}}: He likes to put small ones in, often before a boss fight (or occasionally in the middle of one).
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Obviously deliberate, but in his LP of ''Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door'':
--> ''*As the Goomba group: *"Who's the hottie ya got there with ya?" *As himself:* "How dare you talk about Frankly like that!"''
* ComicalOverreacting: Many of his [[Funny/{{Chuggaaconroy}} funny moments]] stem from the fact that Chugga tends to get [[{{Angrish}} rather]]... [[LargeHam vocal]] when something surprises or upsets him.
* TheComputerIsACheatingBastard: In his ''Pokémon Emerald'' LP, he notes that Dragonbreath almost always seems to [[StatusEffects paralyze]] him when an enemy uses it, yet it rarely paralyzes an enemy when ''he'' uses it.
* CouchGag: At the end of each episode of the ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossingNewLeaf'', he always goes to sleep in a bed, with variables including outfit changes, furniture rearrangements, etc.
* CrackPairing:
** Chugga jokes about someone (or even himself) dating a [[VideoGame/{{Pikmin}} Wollywog]]. [[invoked]]
** Then a pairing between [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime Gohma]] and [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask Gomess]].
** In ''Animal Crossing'', Amelia the bird apparently has feelings for Pietro the psychedelic clown sheep.
** In one of the ''Pikmin 3'' bonus videos released at the end of 2019, Chugga confessed that he shipped Creator/ShigeruMiyamoto and Creator/JKRowling, as he felt that the naming scheme in the ''Pikmin'' series is similar to the naming scheme in the ''Franchise/HarryPotter'' series.
* CreepyCentipedes: {{Averted|Trope}} in his ''Xenoblade Chronicles'' Let's Play with the Prism Centipede collectable, him gushing how the item name sounds awesome and beautiful, thinking about a centipede with every segment being a different color of the rainbow.
* CrossPlayer: Wanted to do this for ''Pokémon [=FireRed=]'', but decided not to because he knew he'd get made fun of. He does later pick the female trainer Whitlea for his supplementary ''Pokémon Black'' playthrough, and would finally play as the female trainer in his main playthrough of ''Black 2''.
* CurseCutShort: A few times. It's clear that he's holding back, because whenever he's with LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys he just lets them fly.
** Averted only once in their collab of ''Mario Party 2'', where he says the F word when he gets handed bad luck.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: On Day 39 of the ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossingNewLeaf'' LP, he gets color contacts at Shampoodle and got green eyes as a result, matching his green hair. [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by Chugga.
* CutenessProximity: Occasionally gets distracted by his cats doing things while he's trying to play.
** Happens when he meets the white Pikmin in ''Pikmin 2'':
--> '''Chugga''': Aww, aren't you a cute little [[Literature/HarryPotter Voldemort]] impersonator... and look at that, he belched! These things are adorable.
** Exaggerated during ''VideoGame/{{Okamiden}}'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJrI51_fn1w#t=8m43s seeing]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJrI51_fn1w#t=11m40s as ]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gkt5V_uYT1A#t=5m40s how]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gkt5V_uYT1A#t=14m40s many]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9LvDlfxcmE#t=3m14s things]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xo8mpy7WYr4#t=18m4s in]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5q4KQNXLOM&#t=9m15s the]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tq7ULCURmFo#t=14m27s game]] are capable of sending everyone into CutenessOverload.
** This is very prominent [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TD8DFHZLD70&#t=15m40s several]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GAknMjHpHk#t=17m39s times]] in ''VideoGame/KirbysEpicYarn''.
** Both times encountering the Smasher MiniBoss in ''Link's Awakening'', he gushes about how cute it is and says he's sorry he has to kill it.
** His second bonus video for ''Super Mario 64 DS'' depicts the Yoshi representing the losing player crying.
** When his Spheal Mah Ball uses Charm in ''Pokémon XD'' and claps like a seal, he gushes about it at length.
-->'''Chugga''': Oh MY GOD! Ok, ''my'' Attack power was sharply lowered if you can tell by my voice getting ''that'' much higher.
** Also happens when he encounters the winged Pikmin in ''Pikmin 3''.
** His reaction to C.Q. Cumber is this. "It's so ''cute'', I wanna put it in my mouth!"
* DarkerAndEdgier:
** Since around 2018-2019, he's been making jokes that are less family-friendly than what he's typically known for.
--> ''Weed Day is on April 20th...I mean Weeding Day is April 25th''
** Also [[DiscussedTrope talked about]] and played with in his ''Xenoblade Chronicles '' LP in which he refers to a 'Heart-To-Heart' as a "Blood-pumping organ meets another blood-pumping organ!", specifically evoking this trope, then lamenting how there would probably be people online who really would think the term would make it sound more 'extreme'.
** His ''Dark Moon'' LP has lent itself to a great deal of innuendo around sucking, and balls, (as well as ghosts hiding in the crotches of suits of armor) and Chugga goes with it rather than holding back.
* DeadpanSnarker: Has shades of this. Mainly rises when sarcastically contradicting something obvious he said, like how [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTheWindWaker getting a hundred Rupees is good.]]
** In Wind Waker, the text boxes that describe items are basically filled to the brim with this.
--> ''Telescope. Usage: One cutscene in the whole game that starts in about five seconds. I'M DEAD SERIOUS.''
--> ''Grappling Hook. Usage: Swing around to achieve your wildest dream: being Tarzan.''
--> ''Skull Hammer. Need I explain more? IT'S A FREAKING HAMMER.''
* DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment: "We are going to be going to..."
** Sometimes he'll introduce himself with "[[CharacterCatchphrase Hey everybody, it's Chuggaaconroy!]]" in a special way [[note]]An example being in episode 3 of ''Majora's Mask'', when he did "Hey...ev...ery...body...it's Chuggaaconroy!" in tune with the clock's bell[[/note]], then do it again normally just a few seconds later.
** Also in ''Majora's Mask'', when he is going into the Snowhead Temple.
-->'''Chugga:''' And in this episode, with our awesome Goron rolling spikey-powers of spikes we are going to be going forth!
** In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KovW6T_z10&t=10m57s Kid Icarus: Uprising Episode 15]], we have this line from him:
-->'''Chugga:''' Over there you can see that there is a treasure over there.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v5LkG-72_U#t=20m29s Near the end]] of ''VideoGame/SuperPaperMario'''s episode 35:
-->'''Chugga:''' Right here we have this map right here...[[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment "right here we have this map right here".]] [[LampshadeHanging Redundancy, thy middle name is... Chugga.]]
* DelicateAndSickly: He will inevitably have to take a break during every LP, due to illness. Especially prominent during his LP of ''Xenoblade'' and ''Animal Crossing'', as he had to take a break for several months to get over an infection.
* DenserAndWackier: His ''Paper Mario 64'' redux LP is filled with a lot more silly editing compared to his other [=LPs=].
* {{Determinator}}: Chugga will go through ''any'' lengths to get the most out of an LP, as shown in ''Emerald'', where he bought an e-reader card from a collector, borrowed the ''Sapphire'' version of the game from the ''administrator'' of [[Website/{{Bulbagarden}} Bulbapedia]] with overnight shipping which he paid for by himself, then went through a very roundabout way to get the Eon Pass onto his ''Emerald'' cartridge because e-reader support was removed from the game. The end result of this was over $140 spent on twenty minutes of gameplay ''just because he wants his fans to know what it's like''.
** He missed a Speedy Spirit on his file in ''VideoGame/LuigisMansion1'', so he ''started a new file and played up to the point he missed it in just to show the viewers.''
*** Also in ''Luigi's Mansion'', he didn't save at the right point, and re-fought the Clockwork Soldiers, ''his least favorite fight in the game'', to show the viewers a Gold Mouse that had a random chance of appearing in a room.
* DisneyDeath: ''98'' blue Pikmin somehow managed to pull this off in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lrh4AnNpTVM&t=15m40s one episode]].
* {{Dissimile}}: "Now, I'm sure you guys are all familiar with the game of golf. [{{Beat}}] Yeah, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_nKTOlw5u4#t=3m16s this]] is nothing like that."
* DoNotSpoilThisEnding: Ignored. In his ''Xenoblade Chronicles 2'' LP, he spoke of a very specific rare Blade and challenged viewers to guess which episode number he would obtain it on. In the meantime, he had a request for those who knew which Blade he was referring to: that they '''''not''''' refer to the Blade by name until he did obtain it. Regrettably, most viewers either didn't care or weren't paying attention, and did refer to [[VideoGame/{{Xenosaga}} KOS-MOS]] by name even in the comments of the same episode he made this request on, to the dismay of others who intended to honor Emile's wish.
* DoNotTauntCthulhu: Came up during his ''Pokémon Emerald'' LP, where nearly every time he mocked [[OlympusMons Kyogre]] for not attacking him and just using Rest, it would hit him with [[OneHitKill Sheer Cold]].
* DontExplainTheJoke: As noted, he has a tendency to do this.
* DoWellButNotPerfect: In part 33 of his ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiSuperstarSaga'' LP, he makes many futile attempts to nab a pair of Hoo Beans, which is rewarded if he finishes the surfing minigame with a net time of 39-40 seconds. He finally gives up on it when [[spoiler:in his final attempt, he ''undershoots'' the target time by a tenth of a second, giving him the Casual Coral instead.]]
* DownerEnding: The 23rd episode of ''Pokémon XD'' ended with Michael unconscious outside the remains of the [[SaharanShipwreck S.S. Libra]] with his Snag Machine stolen.
** Chrono Trigger's 13th episode ends with this, as [[spoiler: Emile shows the bad ending of the game]]. However, this is somewhat subverted (in a BittersweetEnding sort of way), as [[spoiler: Emile reveals that from here on out, he will achieve the best ending and everything else in between]].
* DraggedIntoDrag: In ''Animal Crossing: New Leaf'', when he lets LetsPlay/ProtonJon decide which fanmade design he'll wear for a week. Jon being [[{{Troll}} Jon]], he chooses the Princess Peach dress.
* DreamingOfThingsToCome: Double-Subverted; in ''Pikmin 2'' episode 34, Chugga had a dream he was going to lose a lot of Pikmin to a rock trap, nothing happened [[spoiler:until the very end, when a bomb rock fell on top of his squad. He didn't lose any Pikmin, but he was pleased a trap fell from the ceiling on the floor he was thinking of.]]
%%* {{Eagleland}}: Refers to himself as if he were Type 2. PlayedForLaughs.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness:
** In his early ''VideoGame/PaperMario64'' LP, he makes meta jokes that assume his audience have already played all the games in the series and are knowledgeable about them. Later on he developed his SignatureStyle of not revealing later events in games and semi-acting as though he was experiencing the plot for the first time, or at least assuming the viewers are. In the same LP, he also did not 100% the game. Later on, he would show off everything he possibly could in the games he [=LPs=].
** Many of his earlier videos seem to lack much of his trademark enthusiasm--he's much quieter and speaks in a much less high-pitched, more deadpan voice. Amazingly enough, the first video of his first LP seems to unintentionally lampshade this, where he says "it may be a little rough around the edges, but whose first LP isn't?"
** In earlier Let's Plays, Chugga tended to mash through and talk over story content (dialogue, cutscenes, etc.) while being generally dismissive of what was going on. Later, he started reading through dialogue completely, and actually makes an effort to give the characters in the game good voices. He also goes silent for non-dialogue moments in cutscenes with minimal aside commentary, giving the story focus in the game's context.
** With the exception of ''[=EarthBound=]'' and ''Mother 1'', most of Emile's Let's Plays from 2008 to 2012 had no episode titles. Starting with ''Ōkamiden'' and ''Pokémon Colosseum'', Chugga would start giving his episodes titles again, partially as a way to add charm to the videos, and as a way to make more puns.
* EmbarrassingFirstName: When he was younger, he wanted his name changed to Steve because he hated his real name, Emile. [[HilariousInHindsight Then along came his Pikmin LP...]]
** When O'Chunks calls Mario "Maria" in ''Super Paper Mario'', Emile says, "It's okay, Mario. I'm used to it. Everyone's called me Emily my whole life."
* EmbarrassingNickname: He reveals in ''Super Paper Mario'' that his mother called him Mimikins when he was three.
* EndearinglyDorky: [[DiscussedTrope Discussed]] when Chugga questions his fangirl following and this trope in ''VideoGame/{{Okamiden}}''.
--> '''Chugga:''' I am such a nerd. Then again, I always get all these comments from [[FanGirl girls]] being like, "You're so cute when you're nerdy." Since when are people cute when they're nerdy? You know what, I think I went to high school in the wrong time time period cause dang, when I was in high school all the girls were like "Eww! You play video games over the age of 5! You're never gonna get laid cause [[SarcasmMode that's so important in high school]]!" What high school should I have been going to that I wasn't?
* EnsembleDarkhorse: InUniverse, Chugga often hypes up minor characters in games he likes. Examples include Jim from ''Majora's Mask'', the President from ''Pikmin 2'' and Miror B. from ''Pokémon Colosseum''.
* EveryoneHasStandards:
** Chugga was a bit taken aback in ''VideoGame/SuperMario64DS'' when some fans complained that, when playing as Wario, he hadn't been saying "D'oh I missed" ''often enough''.
--> '''Chugga''': Alot of people were disappointed that my [[FunWithAcronyms D.I.M.P.S]] rate was down. My D'oh I Missed Per Second! Hahaha!
** While Chugga will make the most awful puns known to mankind with absolutely zero shame, he feels like the circumstances of ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiPartnersInTime'' would make it too much to say "last time" in regards to the previous episode during his intro recap...so he proceeds to try several alternatives in each episode.
** Whenever Chuggaaconroy gets a scene or dialogue that is completely serious or sad, such as Zelda being encased in Crystal in ''Skyward Sword'', he either reads it in a normal voice or stays silent until the moment is over.
* EvilLaugh: Does this sometimes. And for the most part, it's freaking hilarious. [[{{NightmareFuel/Chuggaaconroy}} Well, except for the parts where it's legitimately scary]].
** Subverted at times in his playthroughs of Pokémon games; usually, if a character goes "[[EvilLaugh Fufufufufu]]" he will read it as "[[ClusterFBomb Eff you eff you eff you eff you eff you]]".
* EvilLaughTurnedCoughingFit: In his ''Earthbound'' remake, he voices Aloysius's maniacal laugh turned coughing fit, even bringing up that he was legitimately coughing at the end.
* EvilSoundsRaspy: His [[VideoGame/PaperMarioTheThousandYearDoor Grodus]] voice is a [[Franchise/HarryPotter Voldemort]]-esque high rasp.
* ExactWords:
** Chugga said in his ''Super Mario Sunshine'' LP that he had no plans to Let's Play ''Super Mario 64'' or ''Super Mario Galaxy''. He then went on to do let's plays of ''Super '''Luigi''' Galaxy'' and ''Super Mario 64 '''DS''''' though. The ''Super Mario 64 DS'' review does, however, include some parts of the N64 game, specifically stars that were replaced with different stars in the DS game.
** This trope comes into play again in Episode 20 of his ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger'' LP when he brings up the game's CantDropTheHero mechanic, stating that "You are playing as Crono until the day he dies." [[spoiler:Doubles as {{Foreshadowing}} since he truly can't be removed from your party until he dies later on in the plot.]]
** Chugga said not to expect a new ''VideoGame/{{Okami}}'' episode in six years jokingly, acknowledging a RunningGag where he takes a while to release bonus videos. It takes almost eight years to release a second Devil Gate trial video, and he lampshades that in the intro to that video.
** At the end of the trailer for his 2022 ''VideoGame/PaperMario64'' revisit[[note]]A skit depicting him and Paper Mario as a couple stuck in a [[AwfulWeddedLife loveless marriage]] looking back to the good old days in hopes of recapturing the spark they once had[[/note]], Emile promises that it will be the only joke at the expense of the modern games he'll be making in the series. True to his word, he doesn't bring them up at all throughout his let's play -- after all, he was making a whole separate series to air out his grievances with ''[[VideoGame/PaperMarioStickerStar Sticker Star]]'' and the impact it had on subsequent ''Paper Mario'' games.
* EyeScream: In ''VideoGame/Mother3'', Chapter 7, Episode 24, Chugga describes a time when he was stabbed in the eye with a pencil.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:F-G]]
* TheFaceless: Used to be one of these for a long while, but has since [[AvertedTrope averted this]], with Website/TheSpeedGamers, frequent appearances on WebVideo/StephenVlog, and an interview or two. He even includes a picture of himself as a FreezeFrameBonus when talking about the AR cards in a ''VideoGame/KidIcarusUprising'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4_P_vHtb5c video]]. [[MemeticMutation And then there's the Hiker dance...]]
* FacePalm:
** In Episode 11 of ''Super Luigi Galaxy'', after repeatedly dying at the beginning of the Cyclone Stone in Beach Bowl Galaxy, he audibly [[https://youtu.be/m2qgRbpin8k?t=532 facepalms with the Nunchuck]] before saying it hurt a lot.
** In Episode 13 of ''Luigi's Mansion'', he says to make sure a Boo doesn't go in a certain hallway. Said Boo does go in said hallway. The facepalm subtly gets picked up by his microphone.
* FailedASpotCheck: In ''Pokémon Platinum'', he bemoans the fact that he didn't get a single flinch on Commander Mars' Zubat, despite the fact that barely a minute earlier, he confirmed Zubat's Ability as [[NoSell Inner Focus]], and he himself uses a Zubat. When the relevant episode was re-uploaded to fix a different issue, he took the time to [[SelfDeprecation poke fun at his error.]]
** Also in ''Pokémon Platinum'', he fails to realize that the "5-Maid Knockout Exact-Turn Attack Challenge" requires him to defeat the maids in an exact number of turns.
** In ''Pokémon Black 2 & White 2'' After catching an Elekid which he intends to raise, he looks for a Growlithe in the same area, setting Elekid as the lead Pokémon. In what is seemingly a defiance of his [[BornLucky natural luck]], he takes a whopping 50 encounters before finding a single one, despite it being a 20% chance. He only remembers in post-production that Elekid has Static.[[note]] Outside of battle, if your lead Pokémon has Static, there is a 50% chance to force an encounter with an electric type if one is in the area.[[/note]]
* FailureHero: Calls the cast of ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger'' this. He points out that everything they have done has made little to no difference to the timeline. They head to the past to rescue Marle, which causes her to temporarily [[RetGone cease to exist]], and return to the present with everything set okay again. Heading to the future taught them about Lavos, but they did nothing to save the world itself -- and heading off to fight Magus was pointless because history resulted in the Humans VS Fiends war to end in the humans' favor, with the implication that Magus was killed by the Lavos he summoned in 600 AD. Helping Ayla fight and win over the reptites was a ForegoneConclusion that didn't require their help, since reptites were never the dominant species. All the heroes have succeeded in doing is to cause [[TheDragon Queen Zeal]] to survive the events of the Ocean Palace, and cause the Black Omen to rise up and appear in every temporal location. And [[spoiler:getting TheHero killed]].
* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: Chugga didn't snag the first three boss Pokémon in his ''VideoGame/PokemonColosseum'' LP. He ran out of Poké Balls against Miror B's Sudowoodo, Dakim's Entei was defeated when its partner Camerupt used Earthquake, [[BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor ("Hopefully Camerupt will do something stupid, let's see.")]] and Venus' Suicune committed suicide with recoil damage.
** His luck got better later, as he was able to catch these Pokémon in the rematches, but the trope came back with a vengeance against the final Shadow Pokémon. Chugga had used Surf on Marshall's turn because he had nothing better to do and Explode on Walnut's turn to defeat Gyarados and Milotic, and bring out the Shadow Togetic alone. Gyarados went first and used Earthquake... which was a critical hit and defeated Milotic. Cue [[OhCrap epic]] [[BigNo freak]][[RapidFireNo out]]
* FakeOutOpening: The Peach Interlude for Chapter 5 of his first ''VideoGame/PaperMario64'' playthrough begins with Chugga playing ''VideoGame/SuperMarioRPG'' instead only to learn that he's playing the wrong game for the Let's Play.
* {{Fanboy}}: Of [[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Flannery]], if at least to use his wording on the matter.
** In ''Pokémon Colosseum'', he admits that his favorite character is Miror B and even fanboys his return in ''Pokémon XD''.
** In ''Ōkami'', his favorite character is Susano and always likes to yell out "THE GREATEST WARRIOR EVER" whenever Susano says it.
** He is this for the ''VideoGame/{{Mother}}'' and ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'' series, and the games ''VideoGame/{{Okami}}'' and ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1''. If you don't know whether or not he likes one of those, you have not watched more than five of his videos.
** He states many times in his ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1'' LP that he is a Melia fanboy and always seems to gush over her.
* FanOfTheUnderdog: In ''VideoGame/PokemonXDGaleOfDarkness'' Chugga stood up for [[ButtMonkey Trifecta the Dodrio]] and stated that he did not regret having it on his team, though he really does hope it can prove its worth in the postgame.
* AFateWorseThanDeath: Discussed by Chugga when talking about the Enertron from ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger''. This machine heals wounds and restores energy by giving a good night's sleep within a few seconds, but it doesn't fill a person's stomach. Even if the people are starving, the inherent survival instinct means they would still use this machine, despite knowing it prolongs their existence in a completely bleak world. The ability to keep on living, while hungry.
* FirstNameBasis: He's only shown his full name once, as he prefers to go either by Chuggaaconroy or his first name Emile. (For the curious, his full name is Emiliano Rodolfo Rosales-Birou.)
* FissionMailed: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiYswFVR0Os&t=1m28s Episode 33]] of ''Ōkamiden'' has this.
* {{Flanderization}}:
** In his playthroughs of ''Pokémon [=FireRed=]'' and ''Crystal'', he occasionally caught legendaries in regular Poké Balls when he throws them for no real reason, other than running out of Ultra Balls. In Emerald, he starts trying to ''force'' this to happen by throwing all sorts of weak Poké Balls at every legendary he encounters. [[spoiler:And even though it takes a while, he always catches them in a weak ball, at near-full health, or ''both''.]]
** On his older playthroughs, whenever he made a really bad pun, which was not as often, he would be ashamed or at least laugh at its stupidity. Nowadays, he is widely considered the king of bad puns by many fellow let's players, and takes full pride in that, dropping them much more consistently.
* FlatWhat: In episode four of his ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask Majora's Mask]]'' LP, he [[AccidentalInnuendo calls Jim a]] [[HoYay majestic stallion]]. There's a quick black screen with Chugga giving one of these right after.
** Happened in the fourth bonus episode of Pokémon Colosseum when the game suddenly informed him that his disc could not be read.
** Happens in Episode 27 of ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendofZeldaLinksAwakening Link's Awakening]]''. Upon realizing that the crystal switch needed to be hit, Emile delivers the flattest what he has ever delivered in any of his Let's Plays.
* FoodPorn: In his ''VideoGame/Pikmin3'' Let's Play, Chugga points out how beautiful and realistic the fruits look, and how incredibly thirsty he gets when they're turned into succulent juices.
-->'''Chuggaaconroy''' ''(after mixing strawberry juice with lemon juice)'': And right there, that makes me ''so'' thirsty right now. I love strawberry lemonade, and just how it combines the colors of the juice right there, makes me want to drink it ''so'' badly.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Chugga tends to be very tight-lipped regarding future [=LPs=], but he'll occasionally insert clues about his next LP into his current one. For example, his ''Pokémon [=FireRed=]'' LP begins with a musical cue from the following LP, ''Super Mario Sunshine''.
** The final episode from Chugga's ''Super Luigi Galaxy'' LP also contains a [[TheStinger Stinger]] about his following LP: ''VideoGame/{{Okami}}''.
** A long-range example: in his first episode of ''VideoGame/PaperMarioTheThousandYearDoor'' he keeps the viewers guessing about what the game might be, listing several Gamecube games he might be doing, two of which are ''VideoGame/PokemonColosseum'' and ''[[VideoGame/PokemonXDGaleOfDarkness Pokémon XD]]'' - both of which he indeed LP'd several years later.
** In ''Super Mario 64 DS'', Chugga named episode 6 "The War's End", which is the same as the title of the final chapter in ''Kid Icarus: Uprising''.
** A sneaky short-term example. In the beginning of the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4_P_vHtb5c Chapter 18]] video for ''Kid Icarus: Uprising'', he has the AR cards for Pit and Lady Palutena fight each other. [[spoiler: At the end of Chapter 18, Pit, who has been out for the last three years, learns that Lady Palutena has turned against both him and humanity.]]
** The final episode of his Let's Play of ''Pokémon [=FireRed=]'' (containing [[spoiler: the rematches with the Elite Four]]) ends with a montage of major happenings from the game (in-universe) underlaid with suspenseful music and a final loaded question. [[spoiler: It brilliantly sets the scene for ''VideoGame/PokemonGoldAndSilver'', which take place three years after Gen I in Kanto's next door neighbor region, Johto.]] The text overlays on each event read thusly:
--->[[spoiler: The nests of the Legendary Birds have been disturbed...]]
--->[[spoiler: Giovanni has an apparent son somewhere...]]
--->[[spoiler: Team Rocket is hoping to find its lost leader someday...]]
--->[[spoiler: ...And seems to be researching ways to force Pokémon evolution.]]
--->[[spoiler: And our hero...]]
--->[[spoiler: Is the world's greatest Pokémon Master...]]
--->[[spoiler: (The camera then zooms in on the black area to the left of the image of Red and Blue's confrontation after their battle, before pulling back to reveal--accompanied by a tense, suspenseful bell--the following, final question.)]]
--->[[spoiler: ...I wonder how that will affect the future?]]
*** And, indeed, he started his Let's Play of ''Pokémon Crystal'' about four months later--the ''[=FireRed=]'' aftergame was updated concurrently with parts of ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine''.
** When an octopus taxidermy attacks him in the ''Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon'' LP, he consoles himself with the notion that he will be defeating its kind in the near future. Sure enough, the next LP is ''Splatoon'', which has octopus antagonists.
** A sly long-term example. During his Let's Play of ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask'', one of his videos opens with a clip of Link running around [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaSkywardSword Skyloft]] and eventually falling off the island. It lasts all of fifteen seconds. Cut to the end of 2016 and...well, guess what game he announced he was playing next?
** In a rare case of one not hinting at a new LP, but rather an event in game. At the beginning of his ''[[VideoGame/PokemonBlack2AndWhite2 Pokémon White 2]]'' LP, Chugga names the player character Blaise. As he [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] when he makes the pick, it was an early hint he was picking the fire type starter Tepig.
* TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou: This is starting to happen, not to the audience but to ''Chugga himself'', with Steve crossing over into other games and invading his other [[LetsPlay Let's Plays]].
** In LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys' ''Subspace Emissary'', LetsPlay/ProtonJon points out that a red leaf Pikmin appears with Olimar when in statue form, and Captain Falcon kills all the Pikmin except a red leaf on his first appearance, leading to the joke that this is actually Steve come to torment Chugga.
** In his ''[[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Pokémon Emerald]]'' LetsPlay, he is challenged by a trainer named Steve who warns him "Don't forget what you've done to me! I'll make it so you can't forget!"
* FreezeFrameBonus:
** In the Story Intro for ''VideoGame/SuperPaperMario'', when a bored Luigi exclaims "KERBLOOEY" while [[BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor wishing some excitement would come up soon]], Salvatore from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTheWindWaker'' briefly pops up on the screen. He does it again in episode 19, this time with [=SuperJeenius'=] avatar when the word supergenius appears in the game's text.
** In Episode 18 of the ''VideoGame/KidIcarusUprising'' LP, he flashes a picture of himself holding a Monoeye via AugmentedReality.
** Earlier in the series, in Part 2 of Seafloor Palace, Thanatos calls Pit a trooper at one point. A certain Pikmin shows itself in Pit's laser barrage as he says it.
** Day 6 of the ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossingNewLeaf'' LP has him talk about how annoying Sea Bass are, while flashing a picture of a "X, X Everywhere" meme picture.
** The Aika Village episode posted on Halloween flashes a picture of the Dolly item onscreen. Considering the uncanny, creepy theme that surrounds it...
** In Episode 1 of ''Pokémon Platinum'', when discussing how Gen IV diversified Attack and Special Attack and overall gave a lot of Pokémon more use, an image of Sceptile accompanied by the caption "POOR SCEPTILE!!" briefly flashes onscreen, ironically referencing how the diversification made Sceptile ''a lot more worse'' after the fact.
** In Episode 28 of ''Pokémon Platinum'', [=MasaeAnela's=] profile picture appears for a split second at the 7:04 mark when Chugga reads "I must say" from the game's text.
** In Episode 6 of ''Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon'', when Chugga first says the name of the first boss, the Spider Queen, a picture of the Spider Queen from ''VideoGame/{{Okami}}'' pops up for a split second.
** In Episode 28 of ''Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon'', immediately after E. Gadd says "Anyhoo, it's high noon, sonny," this bit of text appears for one frame:
---> Insert some kind of ''VideoGame/{{Overwatch}}'' joke, I guess? I've never played, but someone watched over me editing this said I need to acknowledge it. So, this one-frame gag goes out to them! Don't tell them, though.
** In Episode 5 of ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiPartnersInTime'', a screenshot of ''VideoGame/PaperMarioStickerStar'' appears at 10:24 when he discusses the TheyChangedItNowItSucks nature of the Bros. Items in place of the Bros. Attacks of the other ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigi'' games. [[invoked]]
** When Jeff uses the Instant Revitalizing Device in Dr. Andonuts's lab in Episode 16 of his second ''[=EarthBound=]'' LP, "*But you're still hungry" flashes on the screen, which shows up after using the Enertrons in ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger''.
** On the Ghost Ship in ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaPhantomHourglass'', after the Cubus Sisters ask Link "Are you a big enough boy to [[TennisBoss return these volleys]]?", the screen from ''VideoGame/BadDudes'' saying "Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the president?" flashes on the right side of the screen.
** During the static leading up to the reveal of how his ''Chrono Trigger'' Let's Play would work in episode 13, the background is the color test from the ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy2'' transmission videos.
** In the announcement trailer for his ''Splatoon 2'' LP, [[VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles2 Padraig's]] face briefly flashes on the screen when the lyrics say "Don't forget me".
* FreudWasRight: In Episode 7 of ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaSkywardSword'', he mentions that the Kikwi Elder always looked like a ballsack to him.
* FriendlyRivalry: With Derrick from ''WebVideo/GameXplain'' in the Scarescraper.
* FridgeBrilliance: InUniverse, this is why he defends [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime Na]][[ExpositionFairy vi]].
* FridgeHorror: An InUniverse example in ''Majora's Mask'':
--> '''Chugga''': Wait...If a mask contains a spirit, then ''why do you have [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Mario's]] face on your backpack?''
* FridgeLogic: {{Lampshade|Hanging}}d whenever Chugga points out "Nintendo Logic". [[invoked]]
** A lot of his humor is based on doing this to his own voiceover, saying something before pausing to really think about what he said and why it's wrong -- sometimes leading to VerbalBackspace and ThatCameOutWrong.
* FreudianSlip: Quoted word for word in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiEpQbtyQyU&t=150s Episode 40]] of his ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask'' LP. His Slip? ...Well, you and Chugga both may need some BrainBleach after that particular thought.
* FullyAutomaticClipShow: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCK0jcHKsmc This fan-made clip show]] made by thelisoncruz features a compilation of Chugga's many running gags and strange noises he made throughout the years. It was released during the ''VideoGame/{{Okami}}'' LP.
* FunnyBackgroundEvent:
** In ''Super Luigi Galaxy'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-n-u2WB7VLo&t=3m32s Episode 23]], after Luigi obtains a star, a bug in the background can be seen wandering right off a ledge. Chugga even lampshades this with an annotation pointing this out.
--->Watch the bug... [[PunctuatedForEmphasis MUST. COMMIT. SUICIDE. BEFORE. TRANSITION.]]
** In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmagMTaD6_8 Day 7]] of ''VideoGame/{{Pikmin}}'', he accidentally knocks several of his Pikmin off the ledge during the Burrowing Snagret fight. They start killing Wogpoles and harvesting their bodies while Chugga's attention is elsewhere.
** At one point in his ''The Wind Waker'' LP, a bird is seen paused in the middle of his attack animation right behind Link, who is performing a song on the Wind Waker.
** Even better, Chugga thought he lost 98 blue Pikmin due to all but 1 not showing up. He didn't notice the one. So while he's yelling [[BigNo NO NO]], a blue Pikmin walks to the onion.
** A bird humping a flower in ''VideoGame/Mother3''.
** A minor one in Episode 23 of his ''Pikmin 2'' LP; while he's busy fighting a Breadbug in the foreground, another one from earlier in the episode can be seen in the background, being dragged towards the ship by a purple Pikmin.
** During the intro of one of his ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'' videos, a Pianta can be seen running around while on fire at the beach.
** In ''Majora's Mask'', after he [[spoiler:frees the Deku Princess, the monkey gets dunked again.]]
** Bowser doing... [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything something]] to the description-box in ''VideoGame/SuperPaperMario''.
* FurryConfusion: [[DiscussedTrope Discussed]] at the end of Day 4 of ''Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo'' where after discussing the possibility of adding pets to ''Animal Crossing'', he states how hypocritical that would be in a world filled with {{Funny Animal}}s and how it is already hypocritical that you can fish up octopi while having octopi as villagers.
* GenderBender: Notes that in Pokémon Emerald, there is a discrepancy in the gender ratio between Azurill and its evolved form Marill. Azurill has a 25/75 male/female ratio. Marill has an even 50/50. Chugga's conclusion?
--> '''Chugga:''' In other words, it grows a [[PrecisionFStrike dick.]]
* GenderBlenderName: Teddy the ''female'' [[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Slakoth]]. He does [[LampshadeHanging comment on this]] when he catches her (and a couple times later).
** [[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Tabitha]], a member of Team Magma, who is ''male.'' Chuggaconroy [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] this a lot, to the point of calling him "The Girlyman" and using a feminine voice for him at one point albeit a silly one.
* GeniusDitz: On one hand, he rambles and is known for making really bizarre, spacey comments, not to mention his AttentionDeficitOohShiny. On the other hand, he [[ShownTheirWork Shows His Work]] frequently, and has displayed knowledge about a number of unusual things, like spaghettification and Bible stories.
* GentleGiant: Though not exactly giant, he's 6'2", 157 pounds and very kind.
* GiverOfLameNames: The enemy namer in ''VideoGame/LuigisMansionDarkMoon'', with names like 'Greenie', 'Hider' and 'Spider'.
* GoneHorriblyRight: After failing multiple times to capture Giratina, he jokingly uses a pink heal ball to capture it. He successfully captures the Pokémon equivalent of Satan with a pink, frilly Poké Ball.
* GoodBadBugs[[invoked]]: Will sometimes point out exploitable glitches in the games he plays, sometimes referring to them as "Speedrunning Tactics". While he will usually try not to abuse them, he will sometimes make use of them. This is especially prominent in his LP of ''Pikmin 3'' in which he takes full advantage of the Winged Pikmin to sequence break getting several fruits[[note]]Including one bug he found completely by accident, when he tried using Winged Pikmin to cheat a fruit out from only a halfway demolished bomb-able wall, only to fail and come back the next day and find the fruit on the other side of the wall, due to the fruit partly clipping through said wall the the game respawning it in the new position[[/note]]. He also takes advantage of the bug where placing Olimar in the water during the final level will cause the FinalBoss to lose track of him.
* GoshDangItToHeck: Not so much in that he doesn't swear, but after the ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'' LP, you can hear him [[CurseCutShort stopping]] [[LastSecondWordSwap himself]] from saying more adult words than before. But in comparison to his own [=LPs=], this trope is averted when with LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys.
** When he was co-commenting on one of Creator/AttackingTucans' ''Majora's Mask'' videos, he lampshaded this by mentioning the trope by name.
* GotMeDoingIt: In ''Super Paper Mario'', after reading Merlee's RhymesOnADime wordplay, he starts accidentally rhyming several of his own sentences for the rest of the episode, berating himself every time he notices.
* GracefulLoser: In ''Splatoon'', he says that he's fine with not always winning, and that it makes the playthrough more interesting for him if he doesn't always win his multiplayer matches.
* GrowingTheBeard:
** In-Universe, sorta. He says ''Super Paper Mario'' starts getting better in Chapter 3.
** Also In-Universe, when starting his LP of ''Pokémon Black and White'', he states that it was these two games and how they handled having more separate stories than the typical OneGameForThePriceOfTwo of the previous games that they became the benchmark of the "Modern Pokémon Game".
[[/folder]]

[[folder:H-O]]
* HappinessInSlavery: Apparently, he "enjoyed labour" during Chapter 2-3 of ''Super Paper Mario''.
* HasAType:
** In his ''[[VideoGame/PokemonGoldAndSilver Pokémon Crystal]]'' LP, he falls in love with Jasmine for being a redheaded girl and was devastated when he learned that she wasn't an actual redhead.
** In his ''Super Paper Mario'' LP, he stated that he liked Peach better when she was a redhead, [[SuddenlyBlonde which she was in her 8-bit form]].
** His [[PerverseSexualLust fanboyism]] towards Kumatora was a running gag during the ''VideoGame/Mother3'' LP.
** [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] during his ''VideoGame/{{Okamiden}}'' LP in which he discovered the name of a red floating head enemy was called "Red Head", pointing out his normal prevalence to this trope.
* HeavyVoice: The voice he gives to Gourmet Guy.
* HeelFaceTurn: Happens to Chugga's Zangoose in ''VideoGame/PokemonXDGaleOfDarkness'' (and by extension all the other Shadow Pokémon he caught in that game and ''VideoGame/PokemonColosseum'')
* HelloInsertNameHere:
** Chugga has varying preferences on this. For games where the hero isn't a blank slate, such as the ''Legend of Zelda'' series, Chugga prefers to use a CanonName. For games where self-inserting is a focus, such as in ''Animal Crossing: New Leaf'' and most ''Pokémon'' games, he goes with Emile. When playing ''Pokémon'' games that don't have an ExcusePlot, Chugga uses canon names for the main characters: Wes and Rui for ''[[VideoGame/PokemonColosseum Colosseum]]'', Michael for ''[[VideoGame/PokemonXDGaleOfDarkness XD]]'', and Blair for ''[[VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite Black and White]]'' (the male protagonist's official name is Hilbert, but Chugga elects to go with his name from a different adaptation, as he couldn't take the name Hilbert seriously).
** Chugga nicknames all of his Pokémon (including throwaway ones), sometimes taking audience suggestions for new team members. He also picked "Palette" as the name of his ''Animal Crossing: New Leaf'' town.
* HereWeGoAgain: Chugga sighed when he saw 5 red leaf Pikmin which he called Steve -- which has a '''''HUGE''''' fandom -- knowing people will squeal over it.
* HeroicBSOD: He experiences a serious one in Episode 27 of his ''Pikmin 2'' LP, after losing over 60 Pikmin to a Volatile Dweevil.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: As of The Runaway Guys, he considers LetsPlay/ProtonJon to be his best friend in a VitriolicBestBuds way.
* HiddenDepths: He reveals within an episode of his playthrough of ''VideoGame/SuperMetroid'' with LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys that he's a fan of the works of Creator/WilliamShakespeare, making a specific reference to ''Theatre/{{Macbeth}}''. Surprising, considering that he's proven time and again that the bulk of his knowledge seems to revolve mostly around technology and video games.
* HilariousOuttakes: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N05tws1q-N0 These failed attempts]] at beating his Rival in ''Pokémon [=FireRed=]''
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XV8RGcgw8U Another video]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpKff0qtZKA and yet another]] of outtakes, these not all from one game but from various games that he'd played over the course of the previous year when these videos were released.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqiNWnIKTjE Here's]] a video of his failed attempts against the Steel Mechorilla from ''VideoGame/Mother3''. The video is ''over ten minutes long'', which is probably [[ThatOneBoss saying something.]]
** This [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpKff0qtZKA video]] contains Chugga's only death in ''[=EarthBound=]'' which he never showed in the original playthrough. When he fights Ness's Nightmare, he says to be sure to watch out for the statue's PK Flash since it can one hit KO you. 1 second later, the boss uses the exact thing and it immediately kills him. However this forshadows the many failings and deaths to come, because of the dreaded Let's Play curse.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard:
** The only reason Steve bothers him is because fans won't stop talking about him. The only reason fans won't stop is because Chugga kept bringing it up afterwards and indulging opportunities to mention him in later [=LPs=]. For as much as Steve haunts Chugga, a lot of it is Chugga's own fault. Since this is oddly ignorant of Chugga, it's possible he's just trying to ham it up and play it for laughs.
** Chugga loved talking to Shari in ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossing New Leaf'', despite (and at least because) her spacy dialogue and the character he had made for her creeped him out. As it turns out, the number of times you speak to an animal is what monitors who your "best friend" is. [[spoiler:So on both Valentine's Day ''and'' his birthday, Shari is the one running the show for him, leading to a BigNo both times.]]
** In ''Pokémon Platinum'', he evolved Grotle (his starter) into Torterra just before battle with Crasher Wake, the Pastoria Gym Leader. Unfortunately, he forgot that one of Wake's Pokémon is packing Ice Fang - and after evolution, Torterra becomes part Ground-type and gains double weakness to Ice attacks. Cue CurbStompBattle.
* HoldingBackThePhlebotinum: Although Chugga makes it a point to find and capture every [[OlympusMons Legendary Pokémon]] (usually excluding event-exclusive Mythicals) in his ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'' [=LPs=], he never uses (or even so much as nicknames) a single one, instead opting to stick with whatever team he has at the moment. The few exceptions are Suicune in ''Crystal'' ([[MundaneUtility as an HM Slave]]) and Zekrom in ''Black and White'', where it replaces Haywire for the final battles against N and Ghetsis.
* HollywoodToneDeaf: InUniverse, he considers himself to be this. He constantly refers to himself as "the worst singer ever" and "the most tone-deaf person on the planet," and apologizes whenever he starts singing. He frequently promises never to sing again, but [[StatusQuoIsGod that never seems to work out...]]
* HopeSpot: In his ''Pokémon Emerald'' LP, his newest {{Mon}} Altair managed to just barely knock out Norman's Slaking, when it was the only Pokémon Chugga had left. Chugaa relaxed and celebrated, thinking he'd beaten the Gym Leader... then he realized [[OhCrap Norman still had one Pokémon left]].
* HostileShowTakeover: [=ProtonJon=] hosts the video ''Going to Momocon in Atlanta, GA!'', describing where The Runaway Guys will be on '''Chugga's Channel'''. Where's Chugga when this was happening? [[spoiler: Being BoundAndGagged somehwere in the distance followed by being left behind by Jon to remain that way. Don't worry though, Someone '''did''' eventually untie him]].
** {{Subverted|Trope}} in ''Update: Going to '[=ConBravo=]!' at the end of the month!'', [[LetsPlay/MasaeAnela Masae]] tries to pass herself off as Chugga via a high-pitched, shrilly voice. If you seen the above video, you'd think he [[spoiler: was BoundAndGagged again]], turns out however, he was actually [[spoiler: completely fine, and takes over after [[LetsPlay/MasaeAnela Masae's]] "performance"]].
** In the {{VideoGame/Pikmin}} multiplayer videos, each of his guests end up doing this for their introduction. As it draws on Chugga gets more and more bemused by this, because it ''wasn't'' a scripted gag and none of them had planned it, it was just coincidence after coincidence.
* HotterAndSexier: A dialogue example, but for his ''Xenoblade Chronicles 2'' Let's Play, he used a lot more (intentional) innuendos along with more (censored) swearing in the game, to go with the game's T rating and references to sexual topics.
* HypeBacklash: [[invoked]] {{Discussed|Trope}} in two different series.
** ''Pikmin 2'', as he reflects on how the game was built up in his mind as the sequel to a game he enjoyed very much, and one that he had quite some difficulty obtaining, the game ended up falling somewhat short in his eyes compared to his expectations. He does see it as an excellent game regardless.
** In the ''VideoGame/KirbyTripleDeluxe'' Let's Play, he talks about how much he doesn't like ''VideoGame/KirbyAirRide'' because he doesn't gel with the one-button controls, seeing it as a something that stunts the accessibility and skill ceiling. This backlash happened because his friends kept praising the City Trial mode but not the main racing mode, and is blanketed as "the best Kirby Game". As it was his first exposure to Kirby outside of ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'', being let down by this game tainted his view on the Kirby series for a long time until he gave it a second chance through ''VideoGame/KirbySuperStar'', and later ''VideoGame/KirbysReturnToDreamLand''. It took him until ''Triple Deluxe'' to truly be a fan of the series.
* HypocriticalHumor:
** Making fun of Pokémon (Emerald) for using bad puns for names.
** In ''Pokémon Emerald'', Chugga asks a Team Aqua grunt if he "makes videos of himself playing video games? I pity you."
** In ''Pikmin 2'', he tells the viewers to get their minds out of the gutter. This is Lampshaded.
** In ''Pokémon Crystal'', when he finds out a trainer's Starmie has Rapid Spin, he says "Who teaches their Starmie Rapid Spin?" despite the fact that Methane (his Weezing) and Darmani (his Donphan) know Tackle and Mud-Slap respectively. Some of the comments lampshade this.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: Emile has stated that he is autistic, and according to his now-deleted 50 Facts video (according to Chugga, some of those facts were seriously outdated), he tries "as hard as [he] can to act like a normal person because [he] always dreamed of being one as a child." Emile did previously believe that he was misdiagnosed, but later stated that this was due to a relative convincing him that he was.
* IconicOutfit: Chugga's striped polo shirt. He's usually portrayed in fanart with one because in RealLife, he is very rarely seen in public without one.
* IdiosyncraticEpisodeNaming: The various episodes of his ''Mother 3'' LP are mostly named after the songs in the game.
* {{Infodump}}:
** Occasionally occurs during any ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'' LP when he has a high number of new bios to go over one after another. For the most part he tries hard not to have too many bios at once, and will sometimes put off introducing the Pokémon of a new area if he's already done bios earlier in the same video.
** Happens in his both of his ''Franchise/{{Splatoon}}'' [=LPs=] when going over the weapon bios, most of which have 2-3 different variants, which in turn each have a different secondary weapon and special attack to go over, as well as synergy of those attacks and his recommendations for bonus abilities. For the most part, though, this will be abated the further Chugga gets into the game, since repeat auxiliary/special attacks means he won't need to dedicate so much time to them.
* InsaneTrollLogic: Typically [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] instances of these in Nintendo games with the phrase "Nintendo Logic".
* InstantSoprano: In his ''Thousand-Year Door'' LP, he used this during the Chapter 6 Bowser Interlude.
* InsurmountableWaistHeightFence: Lampshaded in episode 14 of ''VideoGame/LuigisMansion1''. "Why can't I just burn down these boards to get at whatever's past there?"
* IncredibleShrinkingMan: Regigigas in his bio picture, where a tiny Regigigas on a rock yelling at a normal-sized PlayerCharacter (the latter of which just stares at it in confusion, though we really just see a leg). In case you're wondering why this is the case, this legendary was Level 70 in ''Diamond and Pearl'', '''but Level 1 in Platinum.''' Oh, and '''beating the Pokémon League''' is one of the requirements needed to summon him.
* InterfaceSpoiler:
** At the end of ''VideoGame/KidIcarusUprising'', he put the usual series-end "previous" and "playlist" buttons at the top of the screen during the credits, complete with annotation links. [[spoiler:Averted, however; they disappear when Hades rips through said credits. The actual end plate has the "Next" button as well.]]
** During his Let's Plays of ''VideoGame/PokemonPlatinum'' and ''VideoGame/LuigisMansionDarkMoon'', Chugga invited guests to show off the multiplayer and he would keep the identity of the guest a secret until they introduced themself. However, the description to these videos contained a link to the guest's channel allowing one to easily find out who the guest is before watching the video.
** Defied in his Let's Play of ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger''. From episode 13 onward, he uses Alternate Timelines to link to endings for when Lavos is defeated during that point. He disables it if it's going to spoil events that precede the points when the endings change and get referenced in these alternate endings.
* {{Irony}}:
** As a hardcore Nintendo fan who has [=LPed=] games on every one of their systems (except for Virtual Boy), his first game was ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2''.
** He has never beaten the original ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros1'' despite him being a ''big'' fan of the series.
* {{Jerkass}}: Croque from ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossingNewLeaf'', which is why Chugga hates him. Croque taunts Chugga frequently and responds to everything with "as if". To a lesser extent, Pango.
* JerkassBall: Emile's commentary during [=AriZonia=]'s Organ Trail Round 1 Redux seems to bring this out in him, which may just be because it's a ZombieApocalypse going on and morals tend to fly to the wayside anyway. May also be a case of NotSoAboveItAll as he has no qualms of saying virtual-Jon's life isn't worth anything when held up by a bandit, and even laughs when suggesting Ari shoots a man hosting a game of rotating cups just because they lost.
** Brought up again in the final episode where where there is a man that is willing to trade a large amount of fuel, food, or money in exchange for Jon. Emile declines this offer but still muses that in another universe, he sold Jon for three hundred dollars.
* KarmaHoudini: Croque and Pango never seem to receive any comeuppance for their actions. [[spoiler: Until Shamrock Day where LaserGuidedKarma hits and Croque falls into a pitfall]].
* {{Keet}}: He calls himself "spastic and always bouncing off the walls." LetsPlay/ProtonJon pointed out in one of his streams that Chugga is hyper when there's two or more people around him.
* KindheartedCatLover: He loves cats, and has a cat named Franchise/{{Kirby}}. He also once had two other cats, one named [[VideoGame/EarthBoundBeginnings Teddy]] (who was with Emile around the same time as Kirby), and one named VideoGame/{{Jak|AndDaxter}}.
* LamePunReaction:
** In Episode 5 of his ''Super Mario Sunshine'' Let's Play, after noting that the wires attached to the windmills are likely power lines, he comes across some flower platforms that also have wires attached to them.
-->'''Chugga''': What, are those flowers generating power, too? I guess they must be using [[NewAgeRetroHippie flower power]]. Ohhhh, that was a horrible pun.
** "GO TO HELL! GO TO SHELL! WHATEVER! [{{Beat}}] That is easily the worst pun I have ever made."
* LargeHam: I ''dare'' you to find one episode where he doesn't send his mic levels careening into the red zone.
--> '''Chugga:''' '''[[ChewingTheScenery "DO YOU HEAR THAT BLIZZARD!? YOU TRY TO INTERRUPT OUR BATTLE AND BRING ME DOWN, BUT EVEN YOUR HOWLING WIND CAN STOP THE UNSTOPPABLE FORCE THAT IS MY]]''' '''''[[ChewingTheScenery DETERMINATION!!!!!!!!"]]'''''
* LargeHamAnnouncer: YOU GOT A [[VideoGame/PaperMarioTheThousandYearDoor CRYSTAL STAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR]]/[[VideoGame/SuperPaperMario PURE HEAAAAAAAAAART]]!
* LateArrivalSpoiler: While Chugga is normally very good about not spoiling the games he plays, this did happen for ''Splatoon 1''. Before revealing his next LP, he always gives a hint, and the one for ''Splatoon'' was that [[spoiler:the game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world]]. It isn't a major spoiler mind you, being more of a fun fact (at least in the series' first installment), but it is still a surprising reveal that you wouldn't know unless you put effort into collecting everything in the single-player mode. Indeed, Chugga acknowledged that some viewers who played ''Splatoon'' ended being confused at the description.
* LaughingMad: A few moments, but a particularly memorable one occurs in Episode 8 of ''Emerald'', where he lost all but one of his Pokémon to the Gym Leader's Makuhita. In desperation, he sends out his level 3 Zigzagoon (which he'd caught purely for the purpose of teaching "useless" HM moves). The moment his Zigzagoon entered the field, the poison Acooltent had inflicted ended up knocking the Makuhita out, netting Chugga the win. The Zigzagoon got enough EXP to jump from level 3 to level 7, by the way, and Chugga just kept laughing throughout the whole level-up process.
** His LP of ''[[VideoGame/PaperMarioTheThousandYearDoor The Thousand-Year Door]]'' he also gets a rather reltable one, when fighting a random Ice-puff in the process of 2 turns he messes up and the RNG decides to go against so that he ends up almost half dead against one enemy. It cuts halfway and the next video opens to him still laughing madly.
** When Roc the Archeops learns the move U-Turn in the ''Pokémon White'' LP, Chugga breaks into maniacal laughter.[[note]]Archeops has monstrously high Attack and Speed stats, and U-Turn's damage is based on Attack. More importantly, U-Turn does damage and then swaps the user out for another Pokémon in the team. This means that Chugga can lead with Roc safely in almost all situations despite Archeops being the most extreme GlassCannon in Pokémon - if Roc is sent out against a foe he's not equipped to deal with, his U-Turn is almost guaranteed to outspeed the foe, allowing Chugga to swap in something better ''and'' do absolutely massive amounts of damage on the first turn, when normally he'd be faced with a SadisticChoice between the two.[[/note]]
* LavaIsBoilingKoolAid: Lampshaded in ''Majora's Mask'' Episode 41 after a treasure chest spawns in the middle of a lava pool:
--> '''Chugga''': Okay, seriously! That thing is made of wood! How does that not burst into flames?
* LeetLingo: Episode 7 of his ''Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time'' let's play is titled "[[VideoGame/EliteBeatAgents 1337 8347 463N75]]". Fitting, since he meets the Leet Hammer Bros. in that episode.
* LetsPlay: He is most known for these, although they're not the only videos that he's made.
* LimitedWardrobe: Nearly every time he appears on camera, he's wearing a blue striped polo shirt. This has not gone without note by his fans, who have {{Flanderized}} his love of polo shirts. In one LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys vid, he [[FandomNod references this]] and then attempts to [[CargoShip make out with his shirt.]]
* LowTierLetdown: InUniverse.
** He's not afraid to badmouth certain Pokémon, items, or moves in the ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'' games. He hits Skitty/Delcatty[[note]]At least in the main games.[[/note]], Snorunt/Glalie and Farfetch'd with this hard, more or less saying there's really no reason to ever have one. Then there's his opinion on Luvdisc...
** Downplayed for Flareon. While he does jab at it at every moment he gets, he has mentioned on Facebook that Flareon's lack of positive attributes annoys him, and that he kind of can't wait to LP the Generation 5 games because he'll finally have good things to say about it.
** Played with [[VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1 Sharla]]. He actually loves Sharla as a character but admits that she's not that great in battle.
* LuckySeven: The Phanpy in his ''Pokémon Crystal'' Let's Play had all its stats at 7.
* MadeOfIndestructium: What he thinks the generator on the Space Pirate's ship in ''Kid Icarus'' is made from.
--> '''Chugga:''' Though it appears to be made of glass, it's probably made of some kind of... [[BuffySpeak awesome space... plexi-glass...]] with diamond crusted sheen, or something like that.
* MagikarpPower: Four Pokémon on his ''Pokémon Platinum'' Let's Play team, [[FragileSpeedster Acrobat]], [[ConfusionFu Super]][[JackOfAllTrades nova]], [[KnightInShiningArmor Psythe]], and [[RedBaron Vanity]][[note]]Crobat, Clefairy, Kirlia, especially after it evolved into Gallade, and Milotic respectively[[/note]], and once fully evolved, they have been plenty useful against certain Pokémon.
* ManChild: In his Five-Year Anniversary video, he self-defines himself as "A five-year-old in a twenty-one-year-old body."
* ManipulativeEditing: Unintentional example in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XV8RGcgw8U this outtakes video]] due to an audio skip:
--> '''Chugga:''' And just because we can be an -- IDIOT!
* ManlyTears: His description of the [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask Circus Leader's Mask]].
--> [[BadassBystander Jim]] would be so proud of us!
* MasterOfNone: He sees Sharla as this, since some of her aspects are performed better by later party members.
* ManOfAThousandVoices: Emile has a surprisingly versatile range when it comes to the voicing of characters in his series.
* MeaningfulName: His Yoshi partner in ''The Thousand-Year Door'' is called 'Scrap'. There are two reasons why: the first one is because he's a small fighter, the second is because [[FridgeBrilliance he's a scrap of paper.]]
** In ''Crystal'' his shiny Koffing is nicknamed 'Methane' because it's blue [[note]]as a result of being shiny[[/note]], a gas, and explosive [[note]]it learned Selfdestruct[[/note]].
* MegaphoneGag: At the end of episode 49 of his ''VideoGame/PokemonPlatinum'' LetsPlay, Chugga goes to the podium Cyrus was using to address Team Galactic and yells "Team Galactic smells!" so that everyone in the building (in-game) can hear him.
* MemeticMolester: Considers Luigi to be into children, after the plumber makes a sketchy remark in ''VideoGame/LuigisMansion1''.[[note]]While in the twins' room and examining a picture of one of the kids, Luigi said "I wonder if there are any goodies there..." Actually, Chugga's aim was a little off, so he was aiming at a drawer, meaning Luigi was wondering if there were any goodies in the ''drawer''.[[/note]] [[invoked]]
* MillionToOneChance: In his ''Pokémon Crystal'' LP, he encounters a Shiny Koffing, and even states the odds of finding said Pokémon (1/8192). What makes it [[ContrivedCoincidence coincidental]] was that he stated that he wanted a Koffing for his team before said Shiny appeared.
** The capture of Latias. [[spoiler:He caught her, a Level 50 Pokémon at full health, with a ''Nest Ball''. The chance of that happening is ''0.4%''.]]
** His capture of Groudon before that counts as it had been caught under very improbable conditions.
** In ''[=EarthBound=]'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhyUecp7X4U episode 52]], Chugga finds 2 Magic Fry Pans, an Item that only have a 1/128 chance of dropping off Chomposaurs in the Lost Underworld, in a row. that's 2 seperate 1 in 128 chances, ''Twice in a row!!!!!''
* MindScrew: The gravity of some planets in the ''Super Luigi Galaxy'' playthrough fell into this for him.
** In episode 17 of his ''Pikmin 2'' Let's Play, his brain was broken as a result of a red Pikmin randomly dying shortly after being plucked from the ground. After the boss was dead. And there was nothing else to kill the Pikmin in the room [[note]]The Pikmin fell victim to a rare glitch where collision pushed it through a wall; when this happens, the game kills them to avoid freaking out trying to fix the issue[[/note]].
** He invokes this in one episode of ''Super Luigi Galaxy'' where he says something, then says he's going to get a lot of comments about it because viewers will pause the video and comment then continue the video and hear him say this and get their minds blown.
* {{Misblamed}}: [[invoked]]
** Discussed in Episode 12 of ''Kirby Triple Deluxe'', he talks about how he dislikes people always blaming the writer or director for things that go wrong, since almost all media is a collaborative process.
* MisterExposition: Combined with ShownTheirWork. He shows extensive information on Pokémon in all ''Pokémon'' games, including their stats, location, evolutions if they have them, and much more.
** In ''Ōkami'', he explained all of the references to Japanese mythology throughout the game.
* MondegreenGag: In his ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'' Let's Play, Chugga mentions an unfortunate one: the Sunflower characters make cute gibberish sounds when sprayed with water...but he points out how much it sounds like they're saying "Oh, I'd love a dick!"
* MoodWhiplash:
** In the ending of his ''Thousand-Year Door'' LP, after a heartwarming scene that cuts to a beautiful shot of Rogueport in the morning:
---> ''"And to think, Rogueport looks like this every morning." ({{Beat}}) "Like it's in a sea of piss."''
** In his ''[[VideoGame/PokemonRedAndBlue Pokémon FireRed]]'' LP, Chugga [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pO6uKxNilbQ&t=8m54s was annoyed]] with the trainers and muttered that he wished they'd all die, when he happened upon a trainer who was mourning his in-game recently deceased Onix, his mood took a U-turn.
** After the very solemn ending scene of ''Rescue Team DX'', the video is capped off with [[spoiler:a BrickJoke]].
* SugarWiki/MostWonderfulSound: In-Universe examples:
** The screeching noise that the [[VideoGame/LuigisMansion1 Grabbing Ghosts]] make just tickles Chugga. [[invoked]]
** In the sequel, it's the scream soundbite the Creeper ghosts can make.
** Claims this in ''[[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Pokémon Emerald]]'' whenever he gets to do the voice of ''Mmaxie from Teamm Mmagmma!'' [[invoked]]
** In LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys Mario Party 4 Let's Play, he mentions that he really likes the sound Yoshi makes when it's throwing up in VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine.
* MotorMouth: He can speak really fast when he wants to, especially during his introductions or freakouts.
* MST3KMantra: He often points out ridiculous parts of the game, calling them "Nintendo Logic". [[invoked]]
* MundaneMadeAwesome: His reaction to a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGO6t-BjerE&t=10m54s kung-fu wolf]].
** SPINNING IN ''CIRCLES''!
** Not really mundane, but he finds it really awesome(as mentioned in an ''LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys'' episode) that people can improvise songs together and even get the same melody. Like in jazz and such. Tim agrees after some thinking.
* MyFriendsAndZoidberg: [[spoiler:[[VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1 And that]] [[TheStinger dumb Nopon!]]]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Played for laughs in ''VideoGame/SuperPaperMario,'' when witnessing Fracktail's death animation. He comes to the conclusion that Fracktail was a robot with a heart, and thus could love.
--> [[ChewingTheScenery He could love... HE COULD LOVE! I HAVE KILLED SOMETHING THAT COULD LOOOOOVE!]]
* SugarWiki/NeedsMoreLove: [[invoked]] He tends to LP games that he considers underrated.
** While he never ''directly'' says this about Flannery, on the video of his Emerald LP, one of the comments said he loves her because she's a redhead. This is funny, since Flannery has became more popular with her 'hotter' redesign in the remakes.
* NeverTrustATrailer: The end of his semifinal ''Pokémon Emerald'' episode shows a dramatic reveal of [[spoiler:[[BrickJoke Pokémaniac Steve]] wanting a rematch]], leaving a {{Cliffhanger}} for the finale. [[spoiler:In the finale, Chugga beats Steve in under half a minute and spends most of the actual episode fighting [[{{Superboss}} Steven]].]]
* NiceGuy: Emile is very sweet and kind, even if he is very hyper and boisterous. He is also very generous to his friends.
* NightmareFace: Chugga is convinced that [[VideoGame/PokemonXD Lovrina]] has one of these.
* NightmareFuel: He claims the only genuinely scary thing in ''VideoGame/LuigisMansion1'' is Luigi's OffModel face icon in the save screen when seen in high video quality. [[invoked]]
* NoDialogueEpisode: For the most part anyway. During the second half of the ''VideoGame/{{Okami}}'' finale, Chugga only said one thing towards the beginning of the battle and spends every other moment in silence.
** There are later episodes of ''Mother 3'', as well as the latter half of Episode 49 of ''VideoGame/SuperPaperMario'' and the latter half of Episode 6 of ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1''. These examples are primarily to punctuate the in-game TearJerker moments.
* NoIndoorVoice: He can get really loud when he's excited.
** LetsPlay/ProtonJon revealed during one of his livestreams that when Chugga yells during Runaway Guys [=LPs=], they mute his mic. What the viewers hear is him being picked up by ''everyone else's'' mic, and it's still incredibly loud, often to the point that warnings pop up in the video to turn down the volume.
** In another Runaway Guys LP, Chugga revealed that his neighbors once called the cops on him for being too loud while recording.
* NonSequitur: From his ''Paper Mario'' LP, we can quote:
--> ''While standing next to this chest, for no apparent reason, I am going to say... [[WesternAnimation/SpongeBobSquarePants picklefishlips]].''
** This actually comes back whenever he refers to said chest ('The picklefishlips chest is empty'), making it a RunningGag.
* NothingIsScarier: In episode 10 of ''Super Mario 64 DS'', he tries to show off the infamous biting piano enemy, only for the piano to remain a normal piano when he tries to set it off, and ironically this creeps him out ''more''.
* NotMakingThisUpDisclaimer: In Episode 22 of ''Super Mario Galaxy 2'', he clarifies that his videos really do get re-uploaded to porn sites.
* NWordPrivileges: Several times, he's claimed he's allowed to make fun of the French because he's part French himself. In ''VideoGame/SuperPaperMario,'' he then goes on to say that [[FrenchJerk pretty much]] [[GayParee all the stereotypes]] are true.
* ObfuscatingStupidity:
** Reaches rather ridiculous heights in his ''Mother 3'' LP where he seems to be genuinely confused when Boney is [[PaperThinDisguise disguised by wearing a T-shirt and a cap as well as standing upright.]] Que massive surprise on his part when the "dog-like dude" removes his disguise in the next chapter and it turns out to be Boney.
** In ''The Thousand-Year Door'', he deliberately commentates as though he doesn't know how the mysteries in certain chapters will inevitably play out, even [[spoiler:letting his partner eat a cake he knew was poisoned.]]
** Exaggerated during the ''Majora's Mask'' LP in regards to things that will be important later in the game.
* ObliviousGuiltSlinging: He mentioned an incident in Episode 4 of his ''Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time'' Let's Play where his parents needed to get a twenty from him to pay bills, but they couldn't find it, so they got him a wallet supposedly to teach him about keeping track of his finances. In reality, it was so they would know where his money was, and they took the twenty when he wasn't looking. They confessed years later, and Chugga mentions that, to their credit, they felt terrible when he had innocently commented at the time about how his wallet was strange since everything he put in it disappeared when he wasn't spending any of the money.
* OddlyNamedSequel2ElectricBoogaloo: For ''Phantom Hourglass'', he gives these titles to the videos that involve returning to the Temple of the Ocean King. ''The Ocean King II: Turning Over'' upon gaining the titular item to traverse it. ''Ocean King III: The Backtrackening'' for the third visit. And ''The Backtrackening's Revenge: Ocean King IV'' for the fourth visit. ''Ocean King Gaiden: Gold Edition'' sounds more like a take on ultimate release editions. And it ends with ''Ocean King V: Now Just Backtracking!''.
* OlderThanTheyLook: He's in his mid-20s, but according to [[https://twitter.com/chuggaaconroy/status/793268871360765952 stories]] [[https://twitter.com/chuggaaconroy/status/797112969079508993 he's told]] on his Twitter account, people keep mistaking him for being at oldest a teenager. Possibly older than he sounds as well, since his energetic voice doesn't quite fit "adult" that well.
** Once someone parked outside his house and when he asked them to move did they believe him to be the owner's [[BrattyTeenAgeDaughter Bratty Teenage Son]], ignoring him until he clarified that it was his own house through and through.
** Hell, the guy who showed him his current house mistook him for a kid; he didn't even get out of his car to show Emile around until he clarified that he was the one looking to buy it.
* OhCrap:
** In his ''Wind Waker'' LP, he threw a bomb at a door. It bounced off and it landed in front of him.
-->'''Chugga''': ([[BeatPanel Pause]]) ''OhCrap''!
** This [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XV8RGcgw8U&t=209s outtake]]
** Part 31 of his ''Pokémon Crystal'' LP.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lrh4AnNpTVM&t=15m39s This]] little gem from his ''Pikmin'' LP.
** In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrfrLKhBMKs Episode 14]] of his ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask Majora's Mask]]'' LP 5 minutes in.
** There's one in his ''Pokémon Crystal''-run, in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fFB3VEIFPI&t=76s Part 5 of the Johto Finale]]:
-->"Okay, I'm... not like I'm helping it. Not like I'm helping all the situation of- [[OhCrap OOOOOH CRAAAAAP]]!!!!"
** And another good one in ''Pokémon Colosseum'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGUQ9dJQj1g Episode 29]]. Both Dakim's Pokémon use [[ThePowerOfTheSun SolarBeam]], a [[GreenThumb Grass]] type move. [[MakingASplash Quag]][[DishingOutDirt sire]] is on the field. Both Water and Ground are weak to Grass. Cue Chugga panicking slightly.
** Episode 9 of ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1'' has him [[http://youtu.be/v9UnqaLWSuk?t=13m49s running for dear life]] from a BossInMooksClothing.
** In the Route 10 battle against [[TheRival Cheren]] in ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'', Chugga tries fighting Cheren's Serperior with Haywire the Zebstrika. Haywire doesn't do much damage, and when Serperior manages to use Coil twice (massively buffing its Attack, Defence and accuracy), Chugga panics. [[spoiler:With good reason, too - Serperior proceeds to ''one-shot Chugga's entire team sans Hilbert.'']]
** Chugga causes fellow Let's Player Shadypenguin to have this reaction during their multiplayer battle in ''VideoGame/PokemonPlatinum''. Chugga sends out his Torterra Bodhi and uses Curse, which boosts Bodhi's Attack and Defence while cutting his Speed. Since Torterra is already bulky with a lot of Attack...
-->'''Shadypenguin:''' Curse?! Ohhhhhhh no. [[ThisIsGonnaSuck This is not happening.]]
* OnceASeason: Changes his channel icon each time he begins a new LP to a picture that corresponds to the game he's playing. Starting in 2012, his icons are now always variations on the same '[=Cc=]' logo, but with a thematic style fitting the game he's LP'ing. (These are designed by [[LetsPlay/StephenPlays Stephen and Mal]]).
** Every LP he gets sick somewhere towards the early or mid game and has to take a break. Every time. This is mostly due to major gaming events happening during the [=LPs=] and it's not just restricted to Chugga (NCS and Lucahjin also very commonly have illness-related breaks after cons). The Pax Pox/E3 illness/Con-cold is not kind.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Emile's general nature as a {{keet}} makes it all the heavier when he gets serious. Usually this is apparent when something happens in-game too serious or dour for humor, but it applies even more when he drops any pretense of lightheartedness in the meta portions of his commentary. One notable example is after completing the Lost Sanctum sidequest in the DS port of ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger'', when he solemnly contemplates how it's a rare instance of bonus content actively '''harming''' a game's quality, before admitting that he wouldn't blame anyone who held a worse opinion of ''Chrono Trigger'' because of the Lost Sanctum, a far cry from his usual optimism.
* OpeningNarration: Almost always opens with "[[CharacterCatchphrase Hey everybody, it's Chuggaaconroy!]] And welcome back to Let's Play (insert game here)! In the last episode, we (brief summary of the previous episode). In this episode..."
** Nowadays he typically says something off topic about where he is in the game, then gets to his traditional narration.
-->'''Chugga''': You are now seeing a visual representation of Luigi's personal space. Please do not invade it. Hey everybody, it's Chuggaaconroy! Welcome back to...
-->'''Chugga''': [[ItMakesSenseInContext I like how they wrote "food" backwards.]] Hey everybody, it's Chuggaaconroy! Welcome back to...
** Around the time he was starting his LP of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, he replaces saying "in the last/this episode" with saying "last/this time", for convenience sake.
*** This new change backfired slightly during his Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time playthrough, as "last time" is said after saying the game's title.
** Chugga's intro for episode 3 of ''Majora's Mask'' was actually '''in sync''' with the clock dings. Complete with random pauses and video zoom out.
** If the beginning of an episode is dramatic, or was continuing from a dramatic moment, Emile would usually skip out on saying his cheery "Hey everybody, its Chuggaaconroy" to not ruin the moment, and jump straight to the episode recap.
* OverlyLongGag: Starting in Chapter 7 Episode 18 of his ''VideoGame/Mother3'' LP, when the characters ingest the [[MushroomSamba psychedelic mushrooms]], Chugga speaks in a high-pitched stoned voice for the entire sequence: a total of 14 minutes. Apparently, the joke was annoying to so many (not helped by it [[MoodWhiplash ruining a rather horrifying sequence]]) that Chugga uploaded [[https://youtu.be/XG4pULkFq4g a second version]] that mutes it.
* OverlyPrePreparedGag: The Super Mario Land 1 LP for April Fools 2020. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mb3SHSLyuDM Watch it here.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:P-S]]
* PanderingToTheBase: InUniverse. Chugga feels like he's doing this any time he (positively) mentions Steve the Pikmin after his Let's Play of ''Pikmin 1''.
* ParodyDisplacement: [[invoked]] In episode 49 of his ''Paper Mario'' redux LP, Emile brings up an old joke from his original playthrough of the game where he did a spin on the "Handsome Tom's Useless Knowledge" segments from the old Website/ScrewAttack videos. He mentions how a lot of fans thought he came up with the bit himself and asked why he never brought it back; not helped by the fact that [=ScrewAttack=] eventually shut down and he became more well-known than Handsome Tom in the years since.
* PerfectlyCromulentWord: From his ''VideoGame/Pikmin2'' LP, one of the commenters gave Chugga "dezirewolfed" as the verb describing the Withering Blowhog's act of turning flower Pikmin back to leaf Pikmin ("dezirewolf" being "flowerized" backwards).
* PerformanceAnxiety: Like all Let's Players, Chugga suffers from the "Let's Play curse", where he plays worse on-camera than off-camera. [[LampshadedTrope Lampshaded]] every single time it happens.
* PetPeeveTrope: PaletteSwap, and specifically populating the last stage of an RPG with PaletteSwap [[EliteMook super]] versions of the {{Mooks}} we've already seen rather than original enemies. He says the lack of this trope in ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'' is one reason he likes it so much. [[invoked]]
* PetTheDog: The [[VideoGame/Pikmin2 Waterwraith]] actually let Chugga/Olimar off easy on a few occasions in a row in Pikmin's Submerged Castle. Of course, Chugga lampshades it.
* PhotoshopFilterOfEvil: He makes a crack about this in ''Splatoon 2'', saying "you can tell I'm evil because my shirt has inverted colors.".
-->'''Emile:''' Evil Chugga be like... "Goodbye, nobody, it's... not LetsPlay/NintendoCapriSun!"
* PieInTheFace: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX5MfMZkTLc Chugga was on the receiving end of one]] during Website/TheSpeedGamers 2010 Mario Marathon. He was enjoying himself to the point that he [[spoiler: forced himself back into the pie.]]
* PinkMeansFeminine:
** Chugga uses a feminine voice for one of the [[VideoGame/SuperMario64 pink Bob-ombs]].
** Subverted in his Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX playthrough, where Emile himself chooses to play as a Skitty, and later evolves himself into a Delcatty.
* PoesLaw: For April Fools Day 2009, he did an intentionally poor LP of ''VideoGame/MegaMan2'', which was actually a parody of all the poor quality [=LPs=] that particular game has received for some reason, riddled with item spoilers, bad audio and visual quality and even [[PrecisionFStrike full-on swearing]]. Apparently, a lot of people took it seriously; he later felt it necessary to add a caption stating that his work was a parody and not a real LP.
** In ''Majora's Mask'', Chugga made an Unregistered Hypercam 2 joke. When he was guesting on the TGS podcast, [[Creator/TheCynicalBrit TotalBiscuit]] brought up a similar incident and Chugga mentioned that way too many fans thought it was real.
* PointyHairedBoss: Seems to view [[VideoGame/Pikmin2 The President of Hocotate Freight]] as being somewhere between this and a CorruptCorporateExecutive.
** RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: The other half of the time, this is how he views the president. [[ArtificialStupidity To a fault]].
* PrecisionFStrike: While earlier let's plays had more examples of this, Chugga normally doesn't swear that much on camera aside from the occasional "pissed off", but when he does, you know things are about to get real.
** After correctly guessing the lineup of a random trainer during Part 8 of ''[=FireRed=]'':
--> '''Chugga''': Moment of truth, guys. Moment of truth. Moment of truth, it's a Machop. I am a total fucking nerd.
** During his ''Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door'' LP, after destroying the first Jabbi hive fortress:
---> '''"NOT SO PUNY ANYMORE, [[ThisIsForEmphasisBitch BITCHES]]!"'''
** In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aT1-_pBosM?t=6m47s episode 56]] of Chugga's ''Ōkamiden'' playthrough, Kurow says there's "Lots of treasure in here," to which Chugga replies:
---> '''Chugga''': Pardon my English, but ''no shit'', Kurow!
** During the harp minigame in episode 30 of ''Skyward Sword''.
---> '''Chugga''': Freestyle, bitch!
** [[https://youtu.be/0wXp6Vs96wg?t=965 This]] moment from ''VideoGame/Pikmin3'' takes the cake.
** During his run of Purity Forest, his response to an ''extremely'' unlucky encounter with a Pupitar[[labelnote:*]]Charizard misses Fire Blast twice in a row, then Pupitar hits him with Chip Away ''while confused'' (meaning a 1/8 chance for the attack to face the right direction), resulting in a KO[[/labelnote]] is a (partially) censored "Fucking hell!".
** In a more serious example, he drops two in rapid succession in Episode 131 of ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles2'', when going over story of Haze:
---> '''Chugga''': I hope you'll excuse me when I say... [[PunctuatedForEmphasis that. Is.]] ''[[PunctuatedForEmphasis Fucked up]]''. (...) It's rare that I've ever heard anything ''more fucked up'' than that.
*** In that same playthrough in Episode 187 when talking about his Dad and how he relates to Lora he says this:
---->'''Chugga''': And scene spoke to me in such a level and made me feel such a connection with Lora because she fucking gets it.
** From the ''Splatoon 2'' LP, Emile enthusiastically reads Pearl's old song "#$@%* Dudes Be #$@%* Sleepin" as "SHIT Dudes Be FUCKIN' Sleeping!" No SoundEffectBleep here.
** In Episode 28 of the ''Paper Mario'' redux, when a Shy Guy steals Tayce T.'s frying pan:
--->'''Chugga:''' YOU! You heartless bastard! You messed with the hero of the story!
** In Episode 43 of the same LP, when using the Snowman Doll on Lava Piranha:
--->'''Chugga:''' [[FinishingMove DECK THE HALLS,]] [[ThisIsForEmphasisBitch BITCH!]]
** Just about everything Chugga has to say about ''Paper Mario: Sticker Star'' is some form of this trope. It's that easy to make him swear that way. For example, during TheRunawayGuys Colosseum 2018, he is made to say good things about the game for a minute and ends it with easily his most epic F-bomb yet, causing everyone to react in surprise or laughter:
-->'''Chugga:''' FUCK!!!
** Then comes his "Chugga Sticks It to Sticker Star" series, which could easily rival the joke ''Mega Man 2'' let's play in terms of language.
** His epic reaction to the remake of ''Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door'', pajamas and all:
-->'''Chugga:''' [[NoIndoorVoice REST IN HELL NEW PAPER MARIO!]] FUCK YOU!
* PreviouslyOn:
** The first minute of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIFhvZ3FbYM this installment]] of his ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'' LP, a random assortment of out-of-context snippets from the previous episode.
** He also did this in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j257IMapNXs&index=27&list=PLCA8E0BA2D0EEB5E7 Episode 26]] of his ''Ōkamiden'' let's play, where he repeats the cutscene shown at the end of the previous episode before starting the battle.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/user/TheMagicCamcorder This user]] took the same concept and made three more "Recap" episodes from Chuggaaconroy's work.
** Used quite frequently in his ''Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX'' Let's Play, but with an extra twist. He recaps the last cliffhanger, but also narrates off-screen grinding in-between story moments to trim down on filler.
* ProductionForeshadowing: In his Let's Play of ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger'', after losing to Lavos early in the project, he goes on a spiel about how the planet's demise was inevitable before being cut off by a transmission interruption. A BlinkAndYouMissIt bit in the transmission interruption features a brief still of one of the intermissions Nintendo used to advertise ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy2'' online, which was the game Chugga LP'd after ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger''.
* PunctuatedForEmphasis: PlayedForLaughs in the description of ''Pokémon Emerald'' Episode 18.
--> We take on MAX. IE. OF. TEAM. MAG. MA.
* PungeonMaster: He's the patron saint of this in the LP community as it is, but he boasts of being even more of one during ''VideoGame/KirbysEpicYarn'', due to all the possible fabric-related puns.
* PunnyName: Not him, but several of his Pokémon are given punny nicknames. For example, his Walrein in ''XD'' is named "Mah Stache" (mustache).
* PuppyLove: {{Invoked|Trope}} with his jokes about Link and Romani in ''Majora's Mask''.
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: Chugga purposely invokes this with his ''Pokémon White'' team. Ottawa is on the team because Oshawott tends to get picked last, Hilbert is there because Chugga feels bad for how his line gets treated by the fanbase, Hex is there because it's a Pokémon that tends to get forgotten entirely, Roc is there simply because Archeops is Chugga's favourite Pokémon, and Haywire & Terrabite are there just to round out the rest of the team.
* {{Railfan}}: Mentions in ''Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door'' that he was obsessed with trains when he was younger, which is why Chapter 6 in that game was his favorite part.
* RainbowPimpGear: Repeatedly lampshaded in the ''Splatoon 1'' and ''2'' [=LPs=]; Chugga picks his outfits purely based on their stat boosts working well with the weapon of the day, and as such nearly all of them look ridiculous.
* RapidFireNo: In his ''VideoGame/{{Pikmin}}'' {{L|etsPlay}}P, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvIiDHjIM9Y episode 8]].
* ReadTheFreakingManual: In episode 48 of his ''Pokémon Emerald'' LP, Chugga expresses surprise that, according to his fans, the [[GuideDangIt Braille puzzles]] to access the Regi Golems has a translation guide in the instruction book.
* RealMenWearPink: His Yoshi ended up hatching pink in his LP of ''VideoGame/PaperMarioTheThousandYearDoor''.
** The first Yoshi he hatched in ''Super Mario Sunshine'' was pink.
** [[RuleOfThree The first Yoshi]] he rode in ''New Super Mario Bros. Wii'' (with LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys) was pink.
** [[VideoGame/LuigisMansion1 Mr. Luggs]] is badass... even though he's wearing a pink dress. With ''flowers''.
** In Let's Play ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossingNewLeaf'', he admits to liking the Princess series. He even lampshades it as he talks about the bed.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech:
** Gives a pretty big one to Impa in Episode 26 of ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaSkywardSword''.
** Chugga years into the Water Dragon in Episode 69 of ''Skyward Sword'' for flooding Faron Woods, destroying the homes of the Kikwis that worship her just to get rid of some monsters, and for putting Link through another test before giving him her portion of the Song of the Hero even though he saved her life before.
** The announcement for the revisit to ''VideoGame/{{Paper Mario|64}}'' has Emile give a heart-wrenching speech to Paper Mario, declaring that Paper Mario strayed too far to the point where he became NotHimself. He eventually agreed to reconcile and start over with the first game.
* RedOniBlueOni: Serves as the Red Oni to LetsPlay/ProtonJon, LetsPlay/NintendoCapriSun, and LetsPlay/MasaeAnela's Blue Oni on LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys. Note that even when they're not collaborating on TRG, Masae still serves this role on projects done with Emile on their own individual channels.
* RocBirds: Invoked in the ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'' playthrough, where Chugga named his Archeops after the legendary bird.
* RuleOfFun: The reason for most of the "Nintendo Logic" portions of the games.
* RunningGag: His bread and butter, to the point that he [[RunningGag/{{Chuggaaconroy}} now has his own page.]]
* SadlyMythtaken: Sinks a bit into this with his exposition for inspirations for characters in ''VideoGame/KidIcarusUprising''. He states [[GaiasVengeance Viridi]] to be based off Gaia when she would fit Demeter better, and states [[PlayingWithFire Pyrrhon]] to be based off Helios when his traits would make more sense being based off of Apollo.
* SayMyName: "[[Creator/ShigeruMiyamoto MIYAMOTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!]]"
** "Mr. ''Mime!''" in his ''Pokémon [=FireRed=]'' LP.
** Lakituuuuuuuuu!!! in his ''Super Paper Mario'' LP
* SceneryPorn: He often gushes about the art style in ''Ōkami'', as well as the open world of ''Xenoblade''.
--> '''Chugga:''' "I really like the art direction."
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: When he catches Groudon in a Nest Ball in his ''[[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Pokémon Emerald]]'' LP, he breaks into a couple of these, noting that he probably lost manliness points.
** In ''VideoGame/{{Okamiden}}'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oJLCFohaBk&t=8m14s episode 6]], he tells the story of his fear of frogs and how he screamed like a little girl in reaction to a frog landing on his shoulder.
** His reaction to Jon yelling as he's making an update [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgzv0043vvo video]]
* SelfDeprecation: As a Let's Player, he's pretty much required to be self-deprecating. The best example is [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXUyQVf_Yh4&t=4m19s when trying to capture Moltres]] in ''[[VideoGame/PokemonRedAndBlue Pokémon FireRed]]'', he goes on a long spiel about how he doesn't have anything better to do than spend nearly an hour "trying to cram a 6-foot bird into something the size of a baseball" (See the quotes page for the entire tirade). Immediately {{lampshade|Hanging}}d when, after he finishes venting, he says "God, that was a sick burn on myself."
* SelfImposedChallenge: In Episode 13 of ''Super Mario Galaxy 2'', he deliberately avoids all Purple Coins on Tall Trunk Galaxy's slide (which takes him multiple attempts) just to show the Gearmo's flabbergasted reaction to collecting '''zero''' Purple Coins. He also deliberately gets Chompworks Galaxy's second Star and third Green Star without the [[ScrappyMechanic Spring Mushroom]] in Episodes 21 and 42 to prove it's pointless. [[invoked]]
* SequenceBreaking: There were occasions in ''VideoGame/Pikmin3'' where he was presented with a puzzle or obstacle to obtain certain fruit...and he simply has Winged Pikmin charge into it instead. He also occasionally shows off speedrunning tactics in ''Galaxy 2'', and in ''Pokémon White 2'', he shows the Abyssal Ruins before the post-game by leveling up a Seel until it learns Dive naturally.
* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness: Episode 3 of ''Xenoblade'': "If you have optical receptors of the functioning variety, you might notice that it's, well... [[CaptainObvious dark out.]]"
* ShipperOnDeck:
** He quite clearly ships Link/Tetra in his ''Wind Waker'' LP.
** In his ''Kid Icarus: Uprising'' LP, he confessed that he ships Viridi/Pit. He readily admits that he does ship some [[CrackPairing very strange pairings]].
** He's a pretty clear Shulk/Melia shipper in ''Xenoblade'', though it's probably due to how much Melia suffers during the game. He later says he ships Melia/Dunban, and gives reasons why it's not just a case of PairTheSpares.
** In ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiSuperstarSaga'', he ships Luigi with Prince Peasley.
** He's also this for [[VideoGame/Splatoon2 Marina and Pearl]].
* ShmuckBait: Telling his viewers to turn the volume down whenever he's about to get really loud. Most people take it as a personal challenge.
* ShoutOut: Common enough to get [[ShoutOut/{{Chuggaaconroy}} its own page.]]
* ShoutOutThemeNaming: From Sephazon's guest appearance in the ''Pokémon Platinum'' Let's Play, in which his Monferno, Luxio, and Kadabra are respectively named [[VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1 Reyn, Sharla, and Shulk]].
* ShownTheirWork: One of his trademarks. Emile is very good at learning the mechanics of any given game, and will do intensive research into any given topic if he has to.
** His explanation of Spaghettification in the first video of ''[[VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy Super Luigi Galaxy]]'', as well as his spiel during ''Pokémon [=FireRed=]'' about why an Electrode should be able to learn Surf.
** In general, his posting the full biographies of every Pokémon, from stats to locations to appearance rates.
** He mentions having done a lot of research in Japanese mythology so he could explain the backstory behind ''VideoGame/{{Okami}}'' (see quotes page).
---> ''"[[PunctuatedForEmphasis STU-DIED!]]"''
** He educated the viewers about how Wurmple's evolution into Silcoon/Cascoon was random in ''Pokémon Emerald''. He also debunked the popular theory that pressing b and rotating the d-pad would make it easier to catch a Pokémon.
*** His knowledge of Pokémon in general, really. He's ''very'' good when it comes to Pokémon.
** ''Xenoblade'' is a ''massive'' game, and Chugga showcases every quest, every item people can trade, the various differences in questlines and even various secrets that most people have never even heard of, let alone see.
* SignificantNameShift: Renaming [[spoiler:Frog to Glenn]] near the end of his Chrono Trigger LP after [[spoiler:completing his side-quest to put Cyrus to rest and unlock the full power of the Masamune]].
* SigningOffCatchphrase: In nearly every episode he does, he signs off with "Next time on (insert game here), we'll be (brief description of what to expect next episode)! See you guys then!" However, like his OpeningCatchphrase, he'll skip out on this if the episode ends on a dramatic note, skipping directly to the end-card to preserve the dramatic effect.
* SimpletonVoice: The voice he does for Lord Crump in ''Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door''.
* SitcomArchNemesis:
** Jubilife [-TV-] in his Pokémon Platinum LetsPlay.
** Polterpup in his Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon LP.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple:
** The only female member on his team in his ''Pokémon Crystal'' LP was Volvalgia, his Dragonite.
** Despite [[AvertedTrope Teddy, his Slaking, also being a female]], Chugga treated Pandora like this anyway.
** Dodrio in ''Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness''.
* SoBadItsGood: [[invoked]] His opinions on the Vanillite line, [[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Maxie's]] portrayal by Creator/MarcThompson in ''Anime/PokemonTheSeriesRubyAndSapphire'', the lyrics to "[[Anime/SonicX Gotta Go Fast]]", and the [[Creator/FourKidsEntertainment 4Kids]] dub of ''Manga/OnePiece''.
* SpaceJews: (Affectionately) interpreted Business Deku Scrubs as being Jewish, and that Jewish people have HelicopterHair [[MundaneMadeAwesome that everyone wishes they had]].
* SpectacularSpinning: His favourite thing in ''VideoGame/SuperPaperMario'' is Bowser's [[AbnormalLimbRotationRange wildly spinning, flailing arms]] in his 'surprised' animation.
* SpoofAesop:
** In the ''VideoGame/{{Okami}}'' LP, "Don't take any of your problems head-on, make them the Sun God's problem, mm-hmm!"
** In ''Majora's Mask'': "Remember kids, if your best friend is going crazy, [[KillItWithFire light them on fire.]]"
* SpotlightStealingSquad: {{Lampshaded}} in his Platinum LP, where his [[MightyGlacier Bodhi]] keeps getting overshadowed by [[DiskOneNuke Acrobat]] and [[GlassCannon Psythe]]. Bodhi would later regain his spotlight when he [[TookALevelInBadass evolved]], in the [[PoorPredictableRock water gym]].
* SpringtimeForHitler: He was so sure he was going to screw up a puzzle in ''Majora's Mask'' (episode 43, if you're interested) that he didn't realize he did it perfectly on his first try. HilarityEnsues.
* {{Squee}}: Often when things ''really'' start looking up for him. Including finding a Phanpy and a Shiny Koffing, and now catching Groudon with a Nest Ball at near full health.
* StacysMom: In Episode 2 of ''Pokémon Black & White'', he admits that he thinks the player character's mom is hot.
* StealthPun: So stealthy it was almost definitely an AccidentalPun. In Episode 40 of ''Super Paper Mario'', he says this "Okay, I admit that was pretty bad taste", regarding a stereotypical Japanese accent he just did, directly after picking up a Dried Shroom.
** Either this, or AccidentalPun. In ''Pokémon Colosseum'', episode 1. Chugggaconroy states he didn't know what the kimono in the Mayors house was and thought it looked like a tree stump. Then comes the caption saying "it always stumped me as a kid".
** In ''Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga'', he says that he has to "hand it to the designers" on the design of the Oucher Glass just after one uses an attack where it makes a hand rise out of the sand.
* StepfordSmiler: During ''Majora's Mask'' he reveals that he wasn't really as excited for ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'' as he let on, due to health problems.
* TheStinger:
** About 15 seconds after the credits for his ''Pokémon [=FireRed=]'' LP ends, [[spoiler:"THE END" becomes "THE END?", accompanied by Mewtwo's cry, hinting that he was going to show the aftergame.]]
** At the end of his last ''Majora's Mask'' video that concerned Stone Tower Temple, he had a stinger where he pointed out the similarities between the temple's entrance and [[spoiler:[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaCDiGames King Harkinian]]]].
** Also used in the end of his last ''Link's Awakening'' video where we see a blooper of him making a HurricaneOfPuns about the final dungeon, The Wind Fish's Egg, before entering it. Oh Emile, when will you stop making stupid puns?
** His ''VideoGame/KidIcarusUprising'' finale has one after [[spoiler:the game's actual stinger]], where Chugga shows the tutorials on how to dodge attacks in the air. He then calls out on the final boss of the game [[spoiler:(who, despite being somewhat difficult due to Chugga playing the last chapter on Intensity 9.0, was very easy due to the fact his attacks are easy to dodge)]] for skipping out on the tutorials.
** His thoughts on [[spoiler:Dickson]] at the end of his ''Xenoblade'' LP, complete with [[spoiler:"...and that dumb Nopon!"]].
** After the end slate for Episode 14 of the ''Pokémon Platinum'' LP, [[spoiler:a silhouette of a Spiritomb appears along with its cry, foreshadowing ThatOneSidequest involving the Old Keystone]].
** After the end slate for Episode 83, the finale of the ''Pokémon Platinum'' LP, [[spoiler: Chugga goes to Iron Island to speak to Byron who gives the player an Iron Coat, complete with [[LargeHam the voice]]]].
** Right after the closing statements of the finale of ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiPartnersInTime'', [[spoiler: he complains that he never got to see Toadsworth worry at 11, [[BrickJoke referencing the news report at the beginning of the game]]]].
** At the end of Episode 53 of his ''Pokémon Black & White'' Let's Play (which was the end of the main story), [[spoiler:Chugga puts [[BigBad Ghetsis's]] pre-battle close-up on screen with the words [[ItMakesSenseInContext "DELICIOUS INVISIBLE BURGER!"]]]]
** In that same Pokémon Black & White LP, the final episode ended with a fairly dramatic Stinger, showing off [[spoiler:the mysterious ghost girl NPC at the Marvellous Bridge]], which is basically a SequelHook that leads into a 'certain' side-quest in the next Pokémon core games in the series.
** The end of his bonus video of the (re-done) ''[=EarthBound=]'' LP features [[spoiler:live-action footage (which was recorded by [=StephenPlays=]) of Emile, as he jokes if said footage being shown would make his LP a [[TakeThat 'live-action reboot'.]] Stephen then replies with a dull 'no'.]]
** The finale episode of his Yoshi's Wooly World LP ends with one, as Emile happily reveals [[spoiler: that around the time when the LP was being made, he got in a lil' bit of trouble with the IRS. He then acknowledges the fact that, just like Yoshi, he has managed to (accidentally) commit the memetic tax fraud.]]
** The end of his finale episode for the Zelda Phantom Hourglass LP shows [[spoiler: Link encountering a petrified Zelda (in her Tetra guise). Emile says that [[DoubleEntendre 'she has gotten]] [[IncrediblyLamePun hard for Link'.]] ]]
** The stinger in the finale episode for Chrono Trigger (which is shown after the remake-only credits portion), has [[spoiler: Lavos' 2nd final forme]] shooting lasers out of its...chest. This causes Emile to scream "Not gazing into your nipples, [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaCDiGames IT BUUURRRRNNNNSSSS!!!]]"
*** And in the final bonus episode, he hastily does one in the end to brighten the mood, with him saying [[MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext "LUIGI WAS BEHIND IT ALL!"]] as he zooms into the Black Omen itself, showing off a 'face' resembling Luigi.
** The stinger for the final episode of his ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy2'' LP has [[spoiler:him walking around Starship Mario while talking about how good it is that everyone is finally reunited with him thinking is missing something before going into the chimney, which was that only thing he had to show off, before honering his pet rabbit, Pippy, who passed away while he was working on this project.]]
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Defied for the ''Xenoblade'' LP. He's actively avoiding armors that would put the characters in underwear, as he finds it rather ridiculous and out of place in cutscenes. He even skips Sharla's jungle armor ''because'' it looks skimpy.
* StuffBlowingUp: With his Shiny Koffing/Weezing, he'd always set it to Selfdestruct or Explosion and [[EvilLaugh laughs maniacally]] at the sight of the opposing Pokémon going down with his own.
* StylisticSuck: His ''Mega Man 2'' joke LP.
* SurpriseDifficulty: [[invoked]] He really wasn't prepared for [[MakingASplash Crasher Wake's]] Gyarados and Floatzel, considering of the former's flinch-inducing Waterfall and the latter's priority moves and Ice Fang. It actually caused him his first Whiteout in his LP.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial:
** While he's trying to enter a code (no, not [[CheatCode that kind of code]]) in ''Majora's Mask'', the video skips ahead a bit. "No, that cut wasn't because I had to go look up our code for this! It wasn't because of that! [[OverlyLongGag Wasn't! I swear!]]"
** In ''Super Paper Mario'', when he receives the code for the million-Rubee safe in Merlee's Mansion, he denies typing the code in on his computer calculator and states that he was simply repeating the code to himself.
** In ''VideoGame/PokemonColosseum'', Chugga goes to show a hidden item in Agate Village, and goes the wrong way. He denies having forgotten which side of the area the item was on.
---> ''Chugga'': I-I knew it was on this side the whole time. I was just doing a thing. I didn't forget! *Beat* No one is believing me.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:T-Z]]
* TakeThat:
** Circumstances provide him with an in-context opportunity to quote Creator/NicolasCage in ''Film/TheWickerMan2006''; a caption describes Cage as "one of the worst actors who ever made it big".
** In another video, he randomly tears into Michael Cera's acting ability. Ironically, he turned out to be a big fan of ''Film/ScottPilgrimVsTheWorld''.
** An... interesting variation occurs during his ''The Wind Waker'' Let's Play, where he delivers a jab at his close colleague LetsPlay/NintendoCapriSun for talking about his practice file so much, takes it back, and pretends it never happened.
** Blames Creator/ShigeruMiyamoto for lots of the things that go wrong in ''[[VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy Super Luigi Galaxy]], VideoGame/Pikmin2'', and so on. PlayedForLaughs and all in good fun, of course. [[invoked]]
** There was one against ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'' in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmqb-kFaFrQ Episode 13]] of his ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'' LP, when he talks about wanting to buy square watermelons in Japan like they did on ''The Simpsons'' "back in the days when ''The Simpsons'' were still good".
** He repeatedly mentions how horrible a game he finds ''[[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgeHog2006 Sonic Next Gen]]'' to be. [[NeverLiveItDown Then again, should we really be surprised by this point?]]
** Multiple shots have been taken at LetsPlay/ProtonJon's [[ScheduleSlip erratic updates]]. [[ImStandingRightHere Including in The Runaway Guys' LPs.]]
** In Episode 15 of his ''Majora's Mask'' LetsPlay, an "Unregistered Hypercam 2" tag pops up in the upper left hand corner after he asks "This is a quality video, right?"
** In-universe, he claims the character Francis from ''VideoGame/SuperPaperMario'' is a TakeThatAudience from Nintendo.
** Constantly disses Umbreon during his ''VideoGame/PokemonColosseum'' LP.
** In Episode 10 of ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiPartnersInTime'' after mentioning that the game's rendition of the Yoshi's Island theme is his second favorite rendition of the song, he states that it didn't have much competition since then. The ''VideoGame/YoshisNewIsland'' theme is then played to prove his point.
** [[invoked]] In episode one of his ''Chrono Trigger'' LP, he takes a potshot at the game's [[PortingDisaster very bad PC/Android port.]]
** Episode 18 of ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'' has him take a potshot at ''[[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire's]]'' [[LoadsAndLoadsOfLoading egregious use of loading screens at times.]]
** In Episode 37 of ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'', after correcting a mistake he made in an earlier episode, Chugga takes a shot at [=YouTube=] for removing the annotations which means he can no longer use them to correct mistakes.
** In Episode 2 of ''VideoGame/KirbyTripleDeluxe'', Chugga makes a jab at the ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'' fandom, stating that ''Franchise/{{Kirby}}'' fans must love the series because it has "set pieces where you don't really have any input and they don't exist for any purpose besides looking cool", yet the latter doesn't complain about them like the former does. Then later, in Episode 11, he makes another jab, [[{{Irony}} this time at the franchise itself]], by saying that they eventually stopped trying to excuse why Knuckles the Echidna kept making appearances in games even though he's supposed to guard the Master Emerald, so they could just as easily excuse Hypernova appearing in future games, only to then immediately backtrack, saying that he doesn't think ''Franchise/{{Kirby}}'' should be "taking advice from that franchise".
** In the trailer for his ''Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX'' LP, the Windows Vista logo appears when he says the phrase "obsolete on arrival".
** Early in the ''Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX'' LP, Chugga takes a shot at people who disliked ''VideoGame/PokemonSwordAndShield'' by sarcastically complaining about a tree in Pokémon Square, and that not every Pokémon appears in ''DX''.
* TakeThatScrappy: [[invoked]] Chugga really doesn't like the [[VideoGame/LuigisMansionDarkMoon Polterpup]][[note]]He views it as a lazy way to [[DiabolusExMachina cause trouble for Luigi and draw out the plot]], and that its missions aren't inventive or fun.[[/note]], and takes great pleasure in capturing and finally containing it.
* TheTeam: His ''Pokémon'' [=LPs=] just ''have'' to bring one up.

* TechnoWizard: Chugga is a {{downplayed|Trope}} version; he's been able to use a computer since he was three years old, and he's the one mainly editing videos for both himself and LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys, up to and including strenuously detailed charts for individual Pokémon information and player performance. It's even more obvious in his Facebook and Twitter accounts.
** He even managed to connect his Platform/NintendoDS and Platform/Nintendo3DS to capture cards, thus being able to take videos directly from the screens of said handhelds, without any emulators. Like fellow {{Lets Play}}er LetsPlay/JoshJepson put it via reply on Twitter:
-->[[https://twitter.com/JoshJepson/status/233395574861348864 Ya know. It's easier just to say you're a wizard and record it with magic.]]
** He [[https://twitter.com/chuggaaconroy/status/181274623646765056 built his own computer]] and his laptop is unlocked by [[http://www.facebook.com/TheRunawayGuys/posts/187972524571954 reading his fingerprint.]] For recording and editing, he doesn't just have one monitor - [[https://twitter.com/chuggaaconroy/status/120625796325982209/photo/1/large he has three.]]
** For the [[LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys Runaway Guys]] collab of ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaFourSwordsAdventures'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zKUCNhWSmA he has everyone export their footage to a makeshift cloud drive - a 2TB external hard drive he attached to the router so he would have instant access to the footage when he inevitably goes to edit it.]]
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: InUniverse. He feels ''really'' strongly about [[VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles2 Roc]] not getting any more screentime anymore than he does in the game proper, since he really likes him as a character and ''especially'' because he was [[spoiler: Vandham's Blade before he died]].
* TheTeetotaler: Chugga reveals in 48 of his ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger'' LP that he hasn't consumed any form of alcohol his entire life, minus one occasion where his mother bought champagne to celebrate his high school graduation.
* TemptingFate: Quite frequently.
** During the outtakes linked to above: "What the heck was I worried about, it's a freaking Rattata[[note]]said Rattata then uses Quick Attack, gets a critical hit, and [=KOs=] his last Pokémon[[/note]] WHAT?! WHAT?! WHAT?!"
** Upon getting 8 red coins in a difficult ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'' level, Chuggaaconroy jokes "Yay. Now watch me die on the way to [the shine]." [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZFMIJoOFlQ&t=8m55s And we do.]]
*** From the same video, around [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZFMIJoOFlQ&t=2m27s 2:27]]:
--->'''Chugga''': How would ''anybody'' ever get hit by one of these- (''gets hit'')
** Another time, during the Megaleg fight ([[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gZqdkc_WSY&t=3m45s this video]]) in ''[[VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy Super Luigi Galaxy]]''.
-->'''Chugga''': Honestly, if you can't get up here- (''he falls off''). I swear that was not on purpose.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XV8RGcgw8U&t=174s Once again in this outtake reel]]
-->'''Chugga''': I cheated death yet again, I am good at cheating death today wadududu. I should not have said I am good at cheating death out loud.
** On his first ''Pikmin 1'' episode, he named the red leaf Steve and said he is the ButtMonkey, and we will not like him. Said pikmin 7 days later risked his life to carry back a Fiery Blowhog when Chugga said he needed more reds. To this day, he wouldn't live it down.
** In ''Pikmin 2'', he postponed the Submerged Castle for the Glutton's Kitchen, saying it is easier and can get him ''right'' under the poko limit for the other cave. Care to take a guess if he survived? [[spoiler: He lost 23 pikmin to 1 enemy.]]
** The mother of all Fate Tempting came in episode 26. He had managed to make decent progress in the Submerged Castle, having only one more treasure to take back, and then, fearfully, said that he was probably on the last treasure and the thing he feared hadn't spawned yet.[[spoiler: Cue the Waterwraith. Cue Chugga FreakOut.]]
** Double Subverted in one episode of his ''Pikmin 2'' LP after complaining about the rockfall traps:
--> '''Chugga''': "Seriously, the designers were just being-" *rocks start falling* "-JERRRRRKS [[MotorMouth they weren't really making the game challenging they were just being jerks in some areas! I'm sorry designers but that is just my opinion please don't throw more rock traps at me!]]" *pause as no more rocks fall* "Okay good, they didn't. Now don't throw one at me now that I've said you didn't!" *rocks fall*
** Used for '''''GOOD''''' when he said he couldn't get up a mountain while rolling in 1 try. He did just that.
** {{Invoked|Trope}} in the very first episode of ''[[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Pokémon Emerald]]''; he called the first rival battle a button-mash and he lost via a critical hit.
** In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyQfO4BGJxY&t=8m24s this video]], where he is fighting Kyogre and it has done Rest for several turns without attacking, he berates Kyogre for not attacking his Blaziken, Moegami, despite having a super effective move. Cue Sheer Cold (which had a 53% chance to hit) hitting.
** This becomes a RunningGag in his ''Pokémon'' [=LPs=], where Chugga is constantly dismissing a move or Pokémon as sub-par only for it either to dramatically win him a battle or (in an enemy's hands) lose it for him.
** In Episode 5 of ''Super Mario Sunshine'', Chugga remarks that he's being more mature with his commentary than usual. Not two seconds later, he gets knocked off a tightrope and lets out a hilariously immature scream of anguish.
** [[https://twitter.com/chuggaaconroy/status/532211944175202308 When the wave 3-4 Toys/{{amiibo}} (which included Shulk) were announced, and that certain figures would be retailer exclusive, Chugga joked that the Shulk amiibo would be GameStop exclusive.]] [[http://www.gamestop.com/accessories/shulk-amiibo-figure-gamestop-exclusive/118681 Not even an hour later, this is proven true.]] Doubles as FiveSecondForeshadowing, and is funnier in that he has a replica of the Monado in his home.
** In episode 35 of ''Xenoblade'', Chugga spends some time going on about how easy the current dungeon is, and how the greatest danger of the (easy) dungeon was not the enemies, but the bottomless pits. While he's running against a cliff. You can guess what happens.
** Used for good in episode 96 of ''Xenoblade''. Chugga mentions that he has barely any items in the Collectapedia for Bionis Interior and it would take a while to complete... [[FailedASpotCheck only to find that he has ''every'' item already just after he said it]].
** ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'':
*** For most of the series, Chugga is happy about [[BornLucky being exceptionally lucky with his team]] regarding their Natures and IV spreads. It goes on even further in Episode 39, when he finds [[MetalSlime Cryogonal (a 5% encounter in Winter, 1% elsewhere)]] not too long into Twist Mountain... and then it comes with an Impish nature, probably the ''worst'' one it could have.[[labelnote:Explanation]]Impish lowers Special Attack but boosts Defense; terrible on a special attacker that [[DumpStat can't take physical hits for toffee]].[[/labelnote]]
*** Episode 51 of ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'' has him dismissing Serperior as a relatively subpar Pokémon that only gets by with [[StatusBuff Coil]]. Cue Cheren's Serperior using Coil twice and [[CurbStompBattle utterly sweeping his team]].
*** Near the end of the battle with Marshal in Episode 55, he dismisses Marshal's quote of putting everything into his last move with a snide, "Will you?" Cue his Mienshao landing a Jump Kick that one-shots Haywire, before falling to Toxic. "[[PyrrhicVictory NOBODY GETS THE EXPERIENCE! HOORAY!]]"
** In Mid-April 2019, Chugga makes a [[https://twitter.com/chuggaaconroy/status/1118313068889628672 tweet]] joking about Nintendo not yet showing gameplay or release date of [[VideoGame/Persona5 Joker]], who was to be released for ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'' that month as DLC. [[https://twitter.com/chuggaaconroy/status/1118319739544244226 Guess what Nintendo did around 20 minutes later?!]] You can't make this up!
** PlayedForLaughs in his reveal trailer for the ''Rescue Team DX'' Let's Play, where he quips "I'm pretty sure the series is dead now" in reference to ''Pokémon Mystery Dungeon'' right before the reveal trailer for ''DX'' gets dropped by the January 2020 ''Pokémon Direct''.
* ThatCameOutWrong: Chugga's got quite a history of poor wording, especially in his newer Let's Plays.
** In the Prologue of ''VideoGame/Mother3'', Alec says to Claus that "Lucas doesn't know how to ram into things yet. Chugga's response? "What are you talking about? I just rammed into Hinawa back there-- ({{Beat}}) That sounds gross. HAHAHA."
** In the final episode of ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'', Chugga is lamenting missing an opportunity to make fun of a large rubber duck that Peach had been sitting on. "Hey, what happened to her rubber duck? I wanted to do stuff with that thing. Oh, God! That sounded a lot wronger than I was trying to make it sound!"
** From ''VideoGame/{{Okami}}'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Rnnw5hypt4&t=5m9s Episode 9]], "I don't want to let the poor kid sleep! He's what we're required to do next in the game! ({{Beat}}) That was not a very good way to word that."
** A truly hilarious one was in ''VideoGame/PaperMarioTheThousandYearDoor'', just before battling Cortez. When Cortez tells Mario to come into his lair and be lost to darkness, Chugga messes up reading it and says "Come into my hole!". He then repeats it with a laugh, ({{Beat}}), "OH MY GOD!! I JUST REALIZED WHAT I JUST SAID!!"
** A non-sexual one in ''VideoGame/LuigisMansion1'': "Dang, ghosts have it all! They have money coming off of their fans instead of dust! Man, I can't wait to be dead! ({{Beat}}) Think before you speak, Emile."
** In Episode 46 of his ''The Wind Waker'' LP, after a lot of failed tries in trying to get under the waterfall in the Forest Haven to meet Makar, he finally succeeds and says, "Okay, I guess I was supposed to grab it from down there even though I ''swear'' that I grabbed it from up there and lowered myself though, but anyway."
** In ''Super Luigi Galaxy'':
--> ''[[ItMakesSenseInContext "Wow, Rosalina's got an enemy base in her bedroom!"]]''
--> "Luigi was [[SomethingElseAlsoRises gripping onto some sort of tall, long thing]]... uh... I have no idea how I can say that without it sounding phallic."
** From ''Pokémon Emerald'', Episode 3: "Typically, Ladies have a lot of money, though, so beat them up. [[LampshadeHanging THAT SOUNDED AMAZING!]] [[LargeHam HAHAHAHAHAHA! WOW!]]"
** Episode 16 of ''Emerald'': "I am immune to your bodily functions!"
** Happens spectacularly when fighting Wally [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lki5q3zB00c&t=4m9s towards the end]]: "WHY WON'T YOU LET ME SCREW YOU, WALLY?! ({{Beat}}) Umm, I can explain..."
** In episode 30 of ''Pokémon Colosseum'': "I would like to stock up on a few items because Entei drained me of my balls. ({{Beat}}) That was my head hitting the back of my chair when I realized what I said."
** In Episode 46 of ''Xenoblade'', he talks about newer games' "1080p-ness". He realized what he just said not long after.
** He reveals to have made Dunban boost affinity by giving Sharla large mangoes in Episode 93 of ''Xenoblade''.
** In Episode 2 Of ''Pokémon Black & White'' when the player's mom calls him and shows her artwork. Chugga responds, "I should probably go to jail for this but, DUDE! My mom is HOT!" And in Episode 9, he says, "I'm not hitting on every girl in this world. I have only hit on my mother."
** His ''Yoshi's Woolly World'' LP has a lot of bad moments. Arguably the worst one is in Episode 15 where he says, "I don't need to kill the parents to get the kids, I just need to lick the children and they become mine!"
** ''Rescue Team DX'', Episode 14:
-->''I can't imagine killing a baby is that hard!''
* ThatOneBoss: In-universe.
** The third fight with [[VideoGame/SuperPaperMario Mimi]] killed Chugga twice, and then reduced him to low HP even on the successful run.
** [[spoiler:Disciple Lorithia]] from ''Xenoblade Chronicles''. Easily his least favorite character plot-wise AND as a boss. Her battle arena is surrounded with ether, which causes damage when traversed, and the AI party members aren't smart enough to avoid it altogether. Chugga didn't have any Terrain Defense gems equipped to mitigate this either. She also summons minions (with a relatively short cooldown, no less!) that give her a huge defense buff and must be killed to nullify it. She also has the ability to inflict Confusion and Topple on the party to keep you flailing helplessly. To top it off? You hear "You'll pay for your insolence!" so many times, it will drive you ''insane''. If it weren't for that last detail, he would've easily dismissed it as simply "an annoying boss fight." [[invoked]]
** Considers the Clockwork Soldiers from ''Luigi's Mansion'' to be this.
* ThatOneSidequest: He sees the [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask Dog]] [[LuckBasedMission Racing Track]] as this. It takes him a whole ''ninety minutes'' to complete it. Of real time. [[invoked]]
* ThatRussianSquatDance: Whenever he comes across a character who seems to be doing it, he sings Dschingis Khan's "Moskau". (Well, he would if he knew the words...)
--> '''Chugga:''' Moskau, Moskau, I-don't-know-the-frickin'-words, I-don't-know-the-frickin'-words, ah-ha-ha-ha-HA!
* ThatsWhatSheSaid: A very quiet one during [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBRvPILIbJo&t=8m28s episode 32]] of ''Super Luigi Galaxy''.
* ThisIsForEmphasisBitch: Because it's super-effective, bitch!
* ThisIsGonnaSuck:
-->'''Chugga''': Nothing left to do but purify every single last one of them before we can move on. ''({{beat}})'' God help me.
** This is how he feels about Planet Wisp Act 4 and Beneath the Well.
* ThrowTheDogABone: After spending a majority of ''Xenoblade'' making fun of Juju, he admits in Episode 101 that he did a good job in reconstructing Colony 6.
* TitleScream: In his remake of ''VideoGame/{{Paper Mario|64}}'', he shouts the titles of each chapter, usually with a hammy buildup and an echoey reverb for the subtitles.
* TooAwesomeToUse: He refused to use the Flower Tabs because they have the ability to fully restore FP after use in addition to increasing your FP total, justifying it in that he would use it to fully restore his FP when he would run out after battle. Problem is, he would often use FP restoration items in battle, so he wouldn't run out, meaning he would have a lot of Flower Tabs taking up space in his inventory doing nothing.
** This is more generally true of pretty much any healing or restoration item in any RPG he plays, especially the ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'' games; he seems to regard it as unprofessional to use them (at least on-camera).
* TooDumbToLive:
** His VideoGame/{{Pikmin}} frequently get into situations like this. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCrL-0D-zGg This]] has some particularly glaring examples. Chugga that says that even though Maxie has a stupid voice, at least he was smarter than this.
** In ''Pokémon Emerald'', he points out the fact that two Team Aqua grunts tell him where Archie is (Slateport City) and what he's doing (stealing a submarine), and then Archie tells Chugga where the Team Aqua hideout is located.
** ''Pokémon Colosseum'' has him alternating between making fun of and laughing hysterically at the AI wasting turns using Normal-type moves against the Ghost-type Misdreavus.
* TookALevelInBadass:
** [[VideoGame/{{Pikmin}} Steve]] going from being TheLoad to OneManArmy.
** Trifecta the Dodrio in ''Pokémon XD'' was constantly getting knocked out in the main story; but in the aftergame, she proved her worth by being able to win some battles, particularly the later levels of Mt. Battle.
* TookALevelInJerkass: In episode 32 of his ''Animal Crossing'' LP, [[spoiler:Stinky decides to move out just to get out of cleaning. Shocked at this, Chugga decides to let him]].
* UnexpectedGameplayChange: Says that the side-scrolling rail-swimming section of ''VideoGame/{{Okamiden}}'' is one of the hardest parts of the game, and it will catch people off-guard.
* UnfortunateImplications: [[invoked]] PlayedForLaughs whenever he feeds a Hungry Luma in his ''[[VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy Super Luigi Galaxy]]'' LP. He points out that he's actually making it obese and [[DrivenToSuicide driving it to suicide]].
* UnfortunateNames: He feels bad for Secc from ONBS in ''VideoGame/PokemonXDGaleOfDarkness'' since anything that belongs to him is "Secc's". Similarly, he thinks Celio in ''[=FireRed=]'' got made fun of a lot as a kid since his name is a homophone of the walrus Pokémon Sealeo, whose ability is Thick Fat.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: [[invoked]] He considers Jac's father, a minor character from ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles2'' to be this. The game, while making it clear that he ''is'' [[ParentalAbandonment a bad father]], more or less depicts him in a ParentsAsPeople light, showing that he was just someone who driven by revenge, and when he realized [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone what he was doing was hurting his children]], he's given another chance to reunite with his other children, and that gives you the best outcome. Emile doesn't agree with this choice and believes he [[NoSympathy "should be rotting in prison"]]. Considering his relationship with his own father, it's understandable.
* UnreliableNarrator:
** He will often say something in an LP only for a caption he adds in post-production to pop up and contradict him (for instance if he misremembered something about the game).
** In ''Super Mario Galaxy 2'', he initially calls the silver crowns that appear upon completing galaxies "platinum crowns" to hide the existence of post-game Green Stars, which turn the crowns gold when all are collected.
* UnsoundEffect: In ''Pokémon Colosseum'' episode 10, while trying to catch Qwilfish, he makes sound effects when he throws the ball on two occasions. The first time, the sound effect for the hand reaching out of the ball and grabbing Qwilfish is "hand". The second time, it's "grab".
* ValuesDissonance:
** [[invoked]] {{Discussed|Trope}} in ''Pokémon XD'', where Chugga points out how Jovi's ItsAllAboutMe personality combined with her ThirdPersonPerson speech patterns and overall BrattyHalfPint behavior makes her gratingly annoying to him and (according to his research) the general American audience, while those same characteristics were intended (with unstated success) to seem cute in Japan.
** In ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiSuperstarSaga'', he notes that calling [[spoiler:Bowletta]] "{{it|is dehumanizing}}" would be considered offensive if the game had been published later.
* VerbalTic:
** "Whatever". He acknowledges this and vows to try cutting down on saying it, but so far, he's been very unsuccessful.
** "Like". He absolutely hates using it so much, but since so many people he knows use it all the time, he has real trouble stopping.
** "For the sheer fact"
** He has a unique way of saying "No", especially when asked in-game about something that is obvious or doesn't need to be shown.
** "What you're gonna wanna do is..."
** "though"
** "Either way" or "Regardless"
** "Very, very nice"
** "Alright"
* VideoGameCrueltyPotential / VideoGameCrueltyPunishment: Tried to blow up the Goron baby with a Powder Keg, but first spent a while mulling over whether he should or not. As soon as he decided he would, it blows up on Link.
* ViewerGenderConfusion: An in-universe example. Chugga has no idea how to refer to the banker in Majora's Mask.
** He kept accidentally refering to his female Slaking as male because it was named after his male cat, Teddy.
** He believed that Kamek was a girl up until he played ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBrosU'' on LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys.
** He mistook Secc for a girl when he was on the news, which is [[JustifiedTrope justified]] since as far as we see, he's never gone to talk to him in all the times he's walked past his office.
* VocalDissonance: After saying that he thinks Pandora's voice is sexy in ''Kid Icarus: Uprising'', he expects this to be the case. Turns out it wasn't. [[spoiler: Especially since the youthful and sexy Amazon Pandora is revealed in the endgame.]]
* VocalEvolution: His voice is noticeably lower and more relaxed in his early videos. Nowadays, it's much higher and more enthusiastic. He lampshaded this on Facebook.
-->'''Chuggaaconroy (via Facebook)''': It's been pointed out to me that my voice somehow got higher-pitched with time and after looking back at old videos, I can't disagree with that. I really will never hit puberty!
* TheVoice: He used to have an aversion to showing his face on the internet, first having shown his face on Website/TheSpeedGamers stream, and even then it wasn't until his second appearance (he wore a mask the first time). He was also interviewed at [=MAGFest=] 2011, which is [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=814wY6z966M posted on YouTube.]] Since then, Chugga has shown his face a lot more often, most obviously in WebVideo/StephenVlog.
* VoiceOfTheLegion: He gives Rayquaza a deep voice with reverb when speaking as it in ''Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DX''.
* VoodooShark: Two examples in Majora's Mask:
** First is with the banker, who always holds onto your money even when you travel back in time, somehow having deposited cash hours before you've actually supposedly deposited it. Chugga believes he hangs onto the money by going back in time with Link, using a cow ornament, because [[BlatantLies "That cow is obviously a time machine"]].
** Later on in the Deku Palace, Chugga notes how you can actually see the guards' line of sight based on the lights coming from them. He chalks this up to all Deku Scrubs, aside from Deku Link, having '''''laser vision'''''.
* {{Wangst}}: His videos are FULL of it, done [[InvokedTrope deliberately]] [[RuleOfFunny over the top and played for comedy.]]
** "I know... FirstWorldProblems..."
* WellDoneSonGuy: Ignoring his usage of this trope in [[LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys another situation]], Chugga plays this trope for laughs whenever in-game characters he pretends to look up to give his character ([[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTheWindWaker often]] [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask Link]]) approval.
* WellThisIsNotThatTrope: The introduction to his ''[[VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy Super Luigi Galaxy]]'' LP shows everything from Mario's point of view, up to and including the title screen, when a sudden RecordNeedleScratch interrupts Mario's TitleDrop, and the text (which had been red and blue up to that point) turns green, and Luigi makes his own TitleDrop.
* WhamEpisode:
** Any time an original villager moves away in ''Animal Crossing: New Leaf''. [[spoiler:Amelia]] definitely was the most emotional and significant departure, but [[spoiler:Biskut's]] was tragic as well, especially since it happened suddenly and in an otherwise incidental episode.
** In August 2014, Emile had to go on hiatus due to an unexpected illness that lasted about two months, to the point where he couldn't make any significant videos until late October. Normally this is filed under ScheduleSlip, but the last video he posted before the hiatus was [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-5rhe7ekhA Episode 40 of Xenoblade]], [[spoiler:which contained one of ''Xenoblade'''s most shocking Wham Episodes, making the announcement much more jarring.]]
** Episode 13 of his ''Chrono Trigger'' LP ends with a huge one, as he [[spoiler:shows off the bad ending of the game]]. This is followed by a huge twist for the LP's true structure, [[spoiler:as Emile reveals that he will continue to play the game to achieve the best ending, which will be the LP's playlist; and allows the viewers to use the new [=YouTube=] annotation system to see the alternate endings and timelines.]]
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: He feels terrible for killing [[VideoGame/SuperPaperMario Fracktail]] after noticing that he was an organic robot.
* WhatTheHellHero: He became increasingly frustrated with Sharla from ''Xenoblade Chronicles'' after she became a ShipperOnDeck for Fiora and Shulk, after in a cut-scene she had specifically stated she was on Melia's side for her hooking up with Shulk. He's especially annoyed since Sharla's change of heart happened completely ''behind Melia's back!''
* WhatTheHellIsThatAccent:
** When discussing the female [[VideoGame/Splatoon1 Inkling]] amiibo Chugga gives her what he 'claims' is a Scottish accent ... that if anything, sounds more ''Swedish''.
** Something similar happens in ''[=EarthBound=]'' Episode 3 (second playthrough), when reading the text for the mayor's secretary he gives her what he claims is a Midwestern accent. It's so bad, Chugga calls himself out in editing:
--> THAT's a midwestern? It's... something, all right.
** During his ''Chrono Trigger'' LP he decides to give the Knight Captain from the Middle Ages a French accent, only because up until that point he had been giving the chef a snooty French accent and just found out they were brothers. After giving it an honest attempt he laments if anything he's made the Knight Captain sound more Japanese than French.
** Even more of that is hinted at in the VideoGame/SuperMario64DS LP, where he mentions that his dad drank and did drugs...yeah.
** In Episode One of ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles2'', Chugga does a truly cringe-worthy Welsh accent when trying to do an impression of Nia's voice. He even admits that he shouldn't be allowed to talk like that.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes:
** He ''really'' doesn't like [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Wallmasters]], and for good reason.
** The same with [[VideoGame/{{Pikmin}} orange bulborbs and wollywogs]], mainly for how annoying he finds them.
** He absolutely loathes [[VideoGame/{{Kirby}} scarfies]], as he can't stand the faces they make when they're attacking him.
** In real life, he's afraid of rollercoasters after nearly riding the Thunder Mountain the day that it derailed and killed people.
** He says that ''Anime/PokemonTheSeries'' ruined Dwebble for him, as it showed that Dwebble looks like a scorpion when outside of its shell and he finds scorpions creepy.
** He also dislikes elevators, especially fast ones. He's said that if was actually in [[VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiPartnersInTime Thwomp Volcano]], he would be more afraid of riding the elevators than of being inside an active volcano.
* WhyDontYouJustShootHim: During his LP of Pokémon Colesseum, he ends up defeating [[spoiler: Evice, the true leader of Team Cipher due to him [[ArtificialStupidity using an X Attack on both of his Pokémon instead of finishing off Marshall,]] the last of Emile's Pokémon. Because of this, he was able to take down his Machamp and capture his Shadow Tyranitar, allowing him to handily win the battle.]]
* WildMassGuessing: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91jKdoU3_Ok In Episode 41 of Majora's Mask]], he explains his theory on the Stone Temple based on his own research and things that other people have written about it. These speculations continue throughout the rest of the LP.
** Believes that Majora [[spoiler: could be female]].
** And his theories on Link's character development. Questionable though since this Link is arguably among his less emotional incarnations.
* WorkingThroughTheCold: In his ''Pokémon Emerald'' LP, he ends up with a sore throat partway through, but continues recording episodes for a short while until it gets so bad he ''has'' to stop.
* WorthIt: In the Cavern of Chaos in his Pikmin 2 LP, he reaches a floor covered in Dwarf Bulborbs, as well as ''two'' Gatling Groinks (which he hates, possibly as much as wollywogs). He spent a very long time trying to kill the Groinks and most of the Bulborbs, then carry the Groinks back (they come back to life if their dead body is left alone), going through a lot of trouble and a couple of freakouts. In the end, he slays pretty much every Bulborb there (which is a dang big amount) trying to find the remaining treasure, only to find it's just sitting out in the middle of a room, so he theoretically could've gotten it without all that hassle. Then, when the treasure (an apple juice can) is shown on the screen after being carried back:
--> '''Chugga''': "Let me just say on the record, I love apple juice, so I'm gonna say that was WorthIt."
* YouJustHadToSayIt: A particularly loud and hilarious one to himself after TemptingFate and summoning the [[ImplacableMan Waterwraith]] in ''Pikmin 2''.
