Here's the list of {{Jerkass}}es in VideoGames. These are the types who scold you for needing someone to hold your hand all the way here. They'll call you and others dipshits and take every chance to be a PoliticallyIncorrectVillain.

----
!!Franchises with their own pages:
[[index]]
* ''Jerkass/FireEmblem''
* ''Jerkass/{{Pokemon}}''
[[/index]]

----
* ''VideoGame/AceCombat7SkiesUnknown'' has a couple of jerks supervising the Osean Air Force's 444th "Spare" Squadron, which is a fighter squadron made up entirely of convicts stationed out of an airbase that's doubles as a prison, and they fly suicide missions on a regular basis.
** First, we have the Squadron's leader/warden, Commander Mckinsey, who is a condescending, cowardly excuse for a commander, and who is willing to throw any pilot who disobeys or even speaks the wrong words about him into Solitary Confinement. He also takes full credit for what the pilots do on their missions, and justifies this as he believes "Prisoners deserve nothing!" On Mission [[spoiler:10, if the transport plane carrying Mckinsey gets shot down, the squadron's AWACS and the other jerk, AWACS Bandog shows no sympathy for what happened, and if you shot his transport down, you even get 1000 points on top of a mission failure.]]
** Second, we have Spare Squadron's AWACS unit, AWACS Bandog. On missions, he serves as Spare Squadron's MissionControl, but he is pretty toxic to the pilots under his command, which includes threatening solitary confinement, making threats like sending the pilots out to dig up landmines with their bare hands, and even downright name calling with names like "Dumbasses" and "Drooling Idiots". When [[PlayerCharacter Trigger]] was transferred to Spare Squadron, Bandog made a bet that he would die on his first mission, even voicing resentment to him after he lands safely, but later on through the Space Squadron arc, he [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold warms up]] to Trigger with his proficiency as a pilot in comparison to the other pilots he's stuck with.
* The Mayor from ''[[VideoGame/NintendoWars Advance Wars: Days of Ruin]]'' is one of these. Brenner saves his town several times, and at one point the Mayor agrees to shelter Will and Isabella in exchange for the Wolves beating the raiders attacking the town. After the battle, he ''goes back on his deal''. He suffers a KarmicDeath, though, as the BigBad gives him an "antidote" for TheVirus that he created. Turns out, it's poison.
** The enemy [=COs=] in ''Days of Ruin'' are no slouches either, the Beast is an completely terrible person, never caring whether those under him lived or died, and take pleasure watching other people suffer, Greyfield is an absolute madman whether people are on his side or not, punching an defenseless old man after he surrendered, and Caulder let loose the Creeper just for kicks, spits on the idea on empathy, and has the ''gall'' to call all of his children abject failures!
* ''VideoGame/AlanWake'':
** The eponymous Alan Wake is a slightly milder case of this than usual. He and his wife Alice travel to [[UsefulNotes/TheOtherRainforest Bright Falls]] for a vacation, but when Alice reveals that she brought a typewriter along to try and end his two-year writer's block, he immediately flips out, yelling at her and storming out of their cabin into the night, knowing full well that Alice is afraid of the dark. He punches out a psychologist who ''also'' tries to help him with the writer's block (although the psychologist ''is'' a SmugSnake). In an interview seen via flashback, he's mentioned as having a temper, and is strongly implied to have punched a member of the paparazzi. His tendency to be a jerk is basically limited to these incidents, though.
** A more traditional case is Agent Nightingale, being a {{Deconstruction}} of CowboyCop. He endangers the townsfolk in his pursuit of Alan, mocks Alan by always calling him by another author's name, and locks him up with little to no evidence, among other things.
* Mike Thorton from ''VideoGame/AlphaProtocol''. He's the protagonist, by the way. You ''can'' play Mike as a personable guy by calculatingly picking all your responses to tell everyone exactly what they want to hear so they'll like you... but the game treats it as Mike essentially manipulating people (which, to be fair, is what you ''are''). On the other hand, ''Alpha Protocol'' allows for [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mf3q_hVEnIA a simply staggering array of blunt rudeness, snarking, threats, and other quite genuine-sounding acts of verbal and physical asshattery]], and comments Mike makes when you're not directly in control suggests that being a DeadpanSnarker is his natural state of being. There is a reason [[WebAnimation/ZeroPunctuation Yatzee]] described Mike as "the ponciest ponce that ever ponced past a poncing parlor".
%%** Other jerkasses in the game include Leland, Westridge and Marburg (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample)
* ''VideoGame/{{Alundra}}'' features Giles, an overly religious man who, while at first is very friendly to the eponymous hero, suddenly starts having nothing but hatred to him, blames you for all misfortune happening and while he doesn't do anything, if you talk to him, he has ''nothing'' but mistrust and hate for you. Then, he proves to be an UngratefulBastard when after you save him from a nightmare, he is quick to go back to his mistrust and hate. A lot this has to do with Alundra failing to [[spoiler: save his sister]] on top of the whole {{Anvilicious}} [[spoiler: GodIsEvil]] theme that permeates the latter half of the story. [[spoiler:His sister is actually still alive and tried her damndest, bless her, to convince him that Alundra is not evil (those who died before he started his hate-run are mostly just other villagers not directly close to him). Giles is not listening.]]
* ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossing'':
** The Snooty female animals, due to {{Flanderization}} from game to game, were this for a while, in stark contrast to the [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Grumpy males]]. However, in ''[[VideoGame/AnimalCrossingNewLeaf New Leaf]]'', Snooty villagers were toned down to just being a bit high maintenance.
** Mr. Resetti, who berates the player if he or she so happens to reset the game.
** Gracie, who will look down on the player for not having her sense of fashion.
** Pave, who constantly demands feathers and berates the player for not dancing.
** The Snowboys, who berate the player if they aren't built absolutely perfectly.
* Altair, the PlayerCharacter of ''VideoGame/AssassinsCreedI'', is such a pain-in-the-ass arrogant screw-up at the start of the game that his fellowship's leader ''stabs'' him in full view of the rest of the organization. When Altair awakens he has no weapons and little armor or health and has to earn them all back.
* ''VideoGame/BaldursGateII'':
** Anomen, the [[TheScrappy insufferable]] Priest of Helm. A stick up the ass is only to be expected, of course, but the would-be paladin goes beyond that, complaining that quests such as hunting down kidnappers who bury people alive or returning a poisoned man to his friends to be cured is a waste of time ("He's probably just drunk"). He even explicitly claims to be the [[OnlySaneMan only competent member of the party]]. He doesn't even get marks for consistency: when you find a drow about to become the victim of vigilante justice, despite having committed no crime, he [[FantasticRacism dismisses it as her just desserts]] for being part of an [[AlwaysChaoticEvil evil race]]. But if you save her, he says he doesn't care whether or not she joins the party -- apparently because he thinks she's hot. All this is made even worse by the fact that, in an unmodded game, he is the only romance option available to a female protagonist.\
He eventually ends up with a character-focused side quest that sees him try to become a paladin; if he fails the test, he renounces the paladin oaths and (eventually, if you can stand keeping him around until the expansion pack) becomes more honest about his dark side, if he succeeds he becomes more paladin-like and courteous (but stays holier-than-thou). Either way, his jerkassness is reduced... slightly.
** This trope actually seems to be a common trait among 80-90% of all evil-aligned {{NPC}}s, including evil party members. [[InsufferableGenius Edwin]], [[DarkActionGirl Viconia]], and particularly [[PsychoForHire Korgan]] are good examples. Unlike Anomen, they avoid being the {{Scrappy}}, because the story actually treats them as evil and the less malevolent party members call them out on it (or simply try to put a sword in their throat if you're unlucky).
* Kalas from ''VideoGame/BatenKaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean'' starts out as one of these, big time. After he saves Xelha from the Saber Dragon, he loots the bodies of her friends and insults her for calling him out on it. When she's captured later, if you suggest rescuing her, Kalas will say she's [[BystanderSyndrome somebody else's problem]], and only free her when it becomes apparent he needs her help to open a door. Later, he mocks her for doing what she believes is right, and almost abandons her to the Empire. [[spoiler:Post-HeelFaceTurn, however, he becomes quite a bit more heroic.]]
* ''VideoGame/BendyAndTheInkMachine'': In the cartoons "Tombstone Picnic", "Haunted Hijinx" and "Snow Sillies", Boris the Wolf is a jerk to Bendy, stealing his picnic basket after a mischievous skeleton causes him to drop it and then tricking him into being slipped up on his own blanket in the first one, dressing up as a ghost to scare him away just so he can steal his Halloween candy in the second, and ignoring Bendy as he mourns over the sentient snowman that the demon creates in the latter. This only seems to apply to his cartoon incarnation, however.
* Beneath all his inspiring freedom speeches and ruthless Nietzschean philosophy, Andrew Ryan from ''VideoGame/BioShock1'' is just a greedy selfish prick. In his background he burned down an entire forest he'd personally planted rather then see it nationalised and opened to the public, dog-in-the-manger-style.
* ''Franchise/BlazBlue'':
** Jin Kisaragi is, in layman's terms, a dick. He tolerates people at best, and is scathingly condescending at worst. It's implied that he wasn't quite an ass before the Ikaruga War (during his Academy days he was [[AffablyEvil a reasonably decent guy, if usually callous and indifferent to normal peoples' suffering]]). But hearing his hated/beloved brother is alive evidently snaps even this fragile remnant of his sanity and pushes him into full-out [[AxCrazy mad]] [[{{Yandere}} psychosis]]. He does get a little better later on, but he still remains a colossal dick, especially to [[ShrinkingViolet Noel Vermillion]] (long story).
** One of Platinum the Trinity's [[SplitPersonality personalities]], Luna, is this meets BrattyHalfPint. She's an extremely obnoxious girl who will stop at nothing, including pranks and insults, to get what she wants. At one point she calls Ragna a pedophile, then suckers him into paying for an expensive meal. She's also quick to become jealous, especially when it comes to [[ACupAngst breasts]], as well as "clingy"; attacking Litchi for having a small, normal talk with Jubei, and for being bustier than Luna, with this kind of reasoning: "[[ItsAllAboutMe How dare you grow a pair of breasts before me!]]" However, her interactions with Litchi afterwards heavily imply that part of the reason she's a jerk is because she's insecure.
** Hazama [[spoiler:a.k.a. Yuuki Terumi]] is not just the BigBad, he also went the extra mile to be an obnoxious {{Troll}}, practically the worst kind of jackass that can exist, and he doesn't really care or justify himself, since he finds those things amusing and interesting. Yep, his lifestyle consists of being an obnoxious misery-bringer to everyone he comes across for fun. [[spoiler:That plus the fact that he [[EmotionEater literally subsists on other people's hatred of him]]]].
* In the ''VideoGame/{{Borderlands}}'' series:
** ''VideoGame/Borderlands2'':
*** Dave definitely qualifies. The quest line in the town of Overlook has you following the orders of a woman named Karima, who has you do things like get them medicine for the invariably fatal disease they are all suffering from and help the citizens make a shield for their town. Dave, meanwhile, takes the time to insult her and make sexist jokes at her expense every step of the way, all while Karima seemingly takes it in stride. Then she has you [[spoiler:drop an artillery shell on his house with him still inside it. Which sends the house over a cliff. And if you've been down to the area at the bottom of that cliff, you'll know that it's infested with vicious, man-eating Threshers.]] BewareTheNiceOnes indeed.
*** [[BigBad Handsome Jack]] is probably the biggest jerkass in the game. It's one thing to be plain old evil. It's another to be evil in addition to being a flat-out ''asshole''. He goes far out of his way to harass you over your comms and childishly insult you, all while taking joy in the pain and misery he causes.
** ''VideoGame/Borderlands3'' has the minor sidequest character Pappy, who you are made to take on an errand run. He is absurdly hostile, spending every waking second screaming insults at the player and his daughter, and his assholishness is such that said daughter actually celebrates if he dies during the sidequest.
* Lord Yuna from ''VideoGame/BreathOfFireIV'' is one of the most subtle and potent examples of jerkery in a video game. He's an adviser and thaumaturge in the employ of the Fou Empire, but is of course [[spoiler:behind the scenes the entire time, orchestrating pretty much every unpleasant event that occurs]]. It's revealed that [[spoiler:Princess Nina's disappeared sister had not only been captured and incarcerated by Yuna, but fused with parts from the panoply of magical creatures that inhabit his world and made into one of the Endless, an undying, immortal being usually worshiped as gods. There are several catches to this, of course. The bad news is that the poor girl is confined to her bed, as a pulsing umbilical connects her to the distorted, building-sized mass of organs that powers her immortality. The worse news is that Yuna intended to use her immortal body as a sort of perpetual sacrifice, ritualistically torturing her over and over in order to power a hex-firing supergun.]] The worst part? He's a pacifist, and hides behind his non-violence in order to avoid retribution. [[KarmaHoudini You never get the satisfaction of pounding his skinny ribs in.]]
* One of the reasons why Bubsy from the ill-fated ''VideoGame/{{Bubsy}}'' series was such a failure as a video game mascot was because his personality is basically a repulsive combination of Stan Smith from ''WesternAnimation/AmericanDad'' and Tomo from ''Manga/AzumangaDaioh'' (really, any GenkiGirl could do, but Tomo seems to fit just right). In fact, Games Radar declared Bubsy as [[TheScrappy the single most unlikeable character in video game history]]. Made ironic in that the ''Bubsy'' games were made years before either show existed (and even his own show).
* [[ThePrimaDonna Mothiva]] from ''VideoGame/BugFables'', [[NiceCharacterMeanActor beneath the friendly, bubbly facade she pulls on public]], is extremely vain, rude and arrogant egomaniac who always treats Team Snakemouth with contempt ever since their first meeting, badmouths them whenever she gets an opportunity, [[UngratefulBastard refuses to thank them]] after being saved from the Ahoneynation, and occasionally even outright assaults them to hijack their missions by force just to get all the fame. To make matters worse, she once attempted to defeat them and hijack their mission even when their victory was ''mandatory to the peace negotiations'', a fact she [[SelectiveObliviousness willfully ignores]] just for the sake of fame, which made even [[NiceGuy Kabbu]] [[BewareTheNiceOnes snap at her in rage]]. The only bug she displays any sort of niceness off-stage is her henchman Zasp, but that's only because she seeks to use his strength to her own needs; should he fall first in their DualBoss fight, she doesn't show concern for his well-being, instead she simply scolds him for his perceived weakness before bringing him back into a fight.
* Almost ''EVERY CHARACTER'' in ''VideoGame/{{Bully}}'' (hey, it ''is'' called "Bully" after all). The [[JerkJock Jocks]] are bullies who pick on anyone who isn't athletic enough. The Bullies are, obviously, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin bullies]] who pick on anyone weaker than they are. The Greasers are violent delinquents who'll bully or attack anyone who crosses their path, enters their territory, or just looks at them funny. The Preps are all stuck-up rich kids who think all other people are inferior to them simply because they have less money and aren't above telling them so. The Townies will insult and fight any Bullworth student and can be seen insulting or even fighting adults, which, in this game, is a major offense. The Townsfolk are pretty much grown-up Preps, and will treat you like shit simply for being underage. Even the ''Nerds'', who are pretty much at the bottom of the food chain, act pretty rudely to anyone who isn't one of them and will happily bully anyone weak enough for them to get away with doing so. The most jerkass characters in the game though would have to be Gary Smith, Derby Harrington, Mr. Hattrick and Mr. Burton.
* ''VideoGame/CampfireCatCafeAndSnackBar'': Richmond stands out as being obnoxiously mean in a cast of otherwise friendly characters. He's a snooty rich cat who is persistently rude to Gino and his staff. He frequently insults Gino's cooking, boasts to Gino that he (Richmond) has gone to a reputable cooking school while Gino hasn't, and he openly accuses Gino's wife, Alessia, of being a thief.
* The "Greatest Employee of All Time" from the museum segment of ''VideoGame/TheCave''. In one of the Time Traveler's cave paintings he's shown lapping up the adulation of his co-workers, the entry hall sports a ''huge'' photo of himself, and every time the Time Traveler passes he'll issue taunts like "Me and the other Greatest Employees of All Time are going out for drinks at the Wizard's Lair after work. Oh wait, there ''are no'' other Greatest Employees of All Time!"
* The entire cast of ''VideoGame/ComicJumperTheAdventuresOfCaptainSmiley'' can be seen as this, with main character Captain Smiley being the mildest example, because while egotistical, self-centered, and petty, he at least has concern for innocent human life. Not so much the rest of the cast, particularly his chest emblem/sidekick Star.
* York Neely, male main character of ''VideoGame/CrossEdge'', is an outrageous dick to friend and foe alike (with the probable exception of childhood friend Miko[to] Aiba) for absolutely no reason.
* ''VideoGame/DarkestDungeon'':
** Perhaps the most dangerous [[HeroicBSOD Affliction]] your heroes can suffer is becoming Abusive, as all of a sudden they will start belting out insults left and right, and belittling their party members for every little thing, even if they're ''healing'' the abusive party member. Even the kindest, most understanding fellows in the group will verbally abuse their teammates with little provocation once afflicted. This will quickly stress their partners out, which usually gets some DisasterDominoes started.
** ''VideoGame/TheSunkenCityCollection'' has the Thrall, who is entirely built around this concept. A former gladiator slave, the Thrall has only four camping skills total, including one where he bullies the rest of the party to reduce his own stress at their expense and one where he picks a party member and beats the tar out of them. A third allows the rest of the party to ''chain him up'' rather than put up with him. About the only reason he's even accepted as an adventurer is that [[MightyGlacier he can punch really,]] ''[[MightyGlacier really]]'' [[MightyGlacier hard]].
* ''VideoGame/DarkSoulsI'':
** Lautrec, a wandering knight who tends to murder those [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness who have outlived their usefulness]] to him.
** The Crestfallen Warrior and the Crestfallen Merchant have absolutely nothing nice to say about anyone or anything.
** The Darkwraith, Forest Hunter, Blade of the Darkmoon, and Gravelord covenants are all about being {{Jerkass}}es to other players online by killing and griefing them.
* Lots in ''VideoGame/DeadRising'':
** The obnoxious and egotistical Kent.
** A few of the survivors, with [[FatBastard Ronald]] [[IncrediblyLamePun taking the cake]]. All Ronald cares about is how much extra food you can provide him.
%%** Jo Slade, Carlos, Brock (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample)
%%** In [[VideoGame/DeadRising2 the sequel]] there's Sullivan and T.K. (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample)
* Dainton Wu from ''VideoGame/{{Delicious}} 10: Emily's New Beginning'' is snobbish, arrogant, abrasive, and absolutely loathes children. He belittles Emily at every turn and constantly calls her unprofessional despite the fact that she's spent the last nine games working in or running a restaurant. During the chapter where she's forced to work for him he refuses to let her have a day off for her daughter's ''first birthday party'' because days off are only for ''three''-star restaurants.
* Crypto, the VillainProtagonist of ''VideoGame/DestroyAllHumans''. Occasionally, a side mission is listed under "Ruin Lives". In said missions, you do things like wreck someone's car just to be a dick.
* ''VideoGame/DragonAgeOrigins'':
** Morrigan could be counted as this. She's sarcastic, condescending, and impolite no matter how you talk to her. Sure, you can make her nicer by giving her gifts and such, but if you do nothing this is ''exactly'' how she comes across.
** Morrigan's at least more subdued about it than her ''[[VideoGame/DragonAgeOriginsAwakening Awakenings]]'' counterpart Velanna. Picture Morrigan's attitude and add in [[FantasticRacism racism]] and some extra moodiness.
* ''Franchise/DragonQuest'':
** At the start of ''VideoGame/DragonQuestVII'', Maribel is an obnoxious, spoiled, selfish, elitist RichBitch. In the first world (Rexwood), when the party discovers that the town is being attacked by monsters who kidnapped its women and children, her response is essentially "Oh boo hoo hoo. When do we leave this dump?" Not to mention how she constantly mocks, insults, and puts down the rest of the party, especially Hero. Over the course of the game though, she gradually [[CharacterDevelopment develops]] into a JerkWithAHeartOfGold, and eventually after that loses the "jerk" part altogether.
** ''VideoGame/DragonQuestVIII'':
*** [[PrinceCharmless Prince Charmles(s)]] is probably the worst one in the series. ''Oy.'' He's an arrogant, entitled prince who frequently insults everyone around him. He then demands you to fetch an Argon Heart so he can ascend the throne. When hunting Argon Lizards, he continuously demands a bigger heart, [[DirtyCoward while he flees any battle with them and watches you fight]]. Eventually, he decides to cheat the challenge and buy an Argon Heart because he thinks the one you got for him was still too small. And this is after you fought a Great Argon Lizard. [[spoiler:Thankfully, his dad King Clavius finds out about this, and decides to [[LaserGuidedKarma not give Charmles the throne as he feels he's too immature to be a decent ruler]].]]
*** Marcello, especially late in the game, where he [[spoiler:throws your team in a nearly-inescapable prison after they save the life of the High Priest (claiming them to be the ones that attacked him). The High Priest dies a little later anyway, at which point Marcello goes on a massive power trip and tries to take over the church, and finally, still professes his hatred to his brother Angelo ''after'' being saved by him]].
* Leonard's pact-partner in ''VideoGame/{{Drakengard}}'', the [[SidekickCreatureNuisance malicious unnamed fairy]]. She goes beyond annoying, however, in that she uses every chance she gets in conversation to [[BreakTheCutie inflict psychological torture on him]], bringing up how Leonard is a complete failure, how he couldn't protect his family, and how he couldn't even kill himself when DrivenToSuicide. Her attitude is such that it [[FridgeLogic boggles the mind]] to contemplate how he ever agreed to a pact with her in the first place. Probably some [[ItsAllMyFault twisted form of repentance]]. She does get some well-deserved comeuppance in one of the routes, though.
* ''VideoGame/DukeNukem'' is perverted, politically incorrect and completely egotistical. He is content to throw money for strippers when anyone decent would be evacuating them from an active warzone. His autobiography is titled "Why I'm So Great", and he constantly shit talks and boasts about how awesome he is. He even once ''literally defecated'' on the body of an alien horror after he killed it. [[Administrivia/TropesAreTools And he is totally]] ''[[HeroicComedicSociopath comical]]'' for it.
* ''VideoGame/DungeonSiegeII'':
** Warden Celia is a total bitch not just to you, but to ''everyone else''. In fact, it's practically a RunningGag that the other Dryads chide her for being too harsh, and she responds by chiding them for being too ''soft''. [[spoiler:Unsurprisingly, she does a FaceHeelTurn and becomes the BigBad's [[TheDragon dragon]] in ''Broken World''.]]
** Finala is a whiny, obnoxiously self-centered and arrogant bitch who constantly elevates herself above the rest of the party. In fact, at one point you literally have to grovel and suck up to her and tell her how much you suck compared to her to advance the plot.
* ''VideoGame/DyztopiaPostHumanRPG'':
** Gotcha, the AI for the spell shard and weapon mod gacha machine, is incredibly rude and condescending to Akira while admitting to exploiting gambling addictions. Akira admits they only interact with Gotcha in order to obtain items, and not for the latter's personality.
** Clyde is such a smug and openly sadistic person that he needs to brainwash himself to consistently maintain a polite facade.
* ''Franchise/TheElderScrolls'':
** ''[[VideoGame/TheElderScrollsIVOblivion Oblivion]]'':
*** Directly after you decide what race and sex your character is, you find yourself in a prison cell. A dark elf prisoner named Valen Dreth across the hall gets your attention, then proceeds to insult you and your entire race, then claims that the guards are going to kill you. Of course, in the event that you choose to become a dark elf, he doesn't insult you or your race... if you're male, he says that you probably have a wife or girlfriend back home, and then he says that he'll find her and "comfort" her about your death when he's freed. If you're female, he says that he'll get the guards to let you into his cell, to have some "fun". In both cases, he does tell you that you're going to be killed, though. Not a nice person. [[spoiler:Ironically, in one of the Dark Brotherhood quests, ''you'' end up killing ''him''. And his sentence was almost up, too. Said quest ends up casting him in a new, sympathetic light, though, as they are prone to do before forcing you to kick the dog. He's only callous as a defense mechanism, a fact which everybody around him realizes, and nobody takes him seriously for. The guard even tries to comfort him or at least engage him in a conversation, although he ends up getting insulted for his troubles, with blatant lies that come off far more pathetic and depressing then enraging. Of course, you still have to kill him.]]
*** In the ''Shivering Isles'' expansion, this is a trait of the Aureals (aka Golden Saints), a form of [[OurDemonsAreDifferent lesser Daedra]] in service to [[MadGod Sheogorath]]. They are a ProudWarriorRace {{Matriarchy}} which openly looks down upon all mortals. Even at the end, when [[spoiler:you [[AGodIsyou inherit the mantle]] of Sheogorath]], they don't get much nicer.
** ''[[VideoGame/TheElderScrollsVSkyrim Skyrim]]'':
*** You start off as a prisoner of the Empire, having been in the wrong place at the wrong time, being captured along with [[RebelLeader Ulfric Stormcloak]] and his supporters. Despite having committed no real crime, the Imperial guard captain orders that you are to be executed as well for no apparent reason, and does so in a tone more befitting of berating a lower-ranking soldier than sentencing someone ''to death''. So grating is her jerkassery that many players have cited her as the reason for joining the Stormcloaks (an [[FantasticRacism openly racist]], [[HonorBeforeReason short-sighted]] [[YourTerroristsAreOurFreedomFighters rebel organization]] who follow a man that [[TheKingslayer openly assassinated the former High King of Skyrim]] using an archaic DuelToTheDeath law as justification) to ''bring down the Empire'' within Skyrim.
*** Alduin, the draconic BigBad. Like most of the series' deities, he is technically AboveGoodAndEvil and operates on his own scale of BlueAndOrangeMorality. It is his divine mandate to "[[TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt eat the world]]" at the end of every "kalpa" ([[EternalRecurrence cycle of time]]) so that it can be remade anew. As such, there are those (like the Greybeards) who don't automatically accept that stopping Alduin is a good thing. However, given his behavior, whether or not he's evil, whether or not he's in the right, it's hard to deny that Alduin is an ''asshole''.
*** Master Neloth in the ''Dragonborn'' DLC. He's an InsufferableGenius and magical MadScientist who truly believes [[ItsAllAboutMe Its All About Him]], and even believes that the ''return of the Dragons'' is an attempt to kill him by one of his many enemies. Much of what he does is simply ForScience and he has [[DudeWheresMyRespect very little respect]] for any other mortal, including a world-saving hero like [[PlayerCharacter the Dragonborn]]. His ComedicSociopathy is one of his few redeeming traits.
*** Nazeem in Whiterun is a smug, arrogant bastard who insults everyone he comes across in his trademark snide tone, including the Dragonborn as well as any merchant he interacts with; he insults both Carlotta and Anoriath's food for not living up to his high standards. Unsurprisingly, everyone in town (including his wife) hates him.
* In ''VideoGame/EnchantedArms'', [[FlamboyantGay Token Gay Guy]] Makoto gets introduced as a Jerkass, getting [[ClingyJealousGirl jealous]] of anyone who gets close to Toya, advocating cutting and running, verbally kicking the dog, and also generally making it abundantly clear he doesn't like the hero. The stereotypical lisp and the over-confident win quotes don't help.
* In ''VideoGame/EpiphanyCity'', Superb Man only cares about his status and selects an art contest winner based on their dad being a tech mogul who can help his ambitions, despite Lily having the objectively better drawing.
* In ''VideoGame/EternalSonata'', the StandardizedLeader avatar character Allegretto is noted for this in a game where none of the other playable characters are really noted for this type of behavior. Examples include poking fun at his younger companion, Beat, and running off and sticking his fellow party members with a job to do while he fetches another party member, a cute girl. The game's Platform/PlayStation3 UpdatedRerelease goes a long way towards making him more of a JerkWithAHeartOfGold by omitting at least one scene in which he displays some heavy jerkass behavior and heavily altering others or adding additional material to portray him in a more favorable light.
* ''VideoGame/{{Fahrenheit}}'' has Captain Jones in the mission "Captain Jones is Really Upset", where he berates Carla and Tyler for Lucas's escape.
* ''Franchise/{{Fallout}}'':
** An awful lot of Wastelanders are quite rude and out for themselves. Maybe the fact that thousands of years of human accomplishment and millions of lives were nuked into dust all because two superpowers couldn't get along and every day now is a bitter fight for survival has something to do with it.
** Myron from ''VideoGame/Fallout2'' is a smug, obnoxious teenager with grating voice who just won't shut up bragging about how smart he is for inventing the nastiest, most lethal drug around. The fact that his invention kills tons of people daily doesn't concern him at all. Also, if the player's character is female, tries to rape her; also, cowardly and useless in combat. What's not to hate? Well, except for [[VideoGameCrueltyPotential disintegrating the smug bastard with a plasma rifle]]. Or listening to him casually remark on how they had to go through about a hundred slaves suffering from heart attacks and cerebral hemorrhages to get the formula for Jet right, inviting him into the party, [[LaserGuidedKarma and then selling him off to the slaver boss in the Den to eventually be experimented on by the Enclave]]. And if the player doesn't punish him themselves, [[KarmicDeath karma has the last laugh with Myron]], as in the epilogue (provided Myron survives to the end of the game), it's revealed that he gets [[DeathByIrony stabbed and killed by a jet addict in a bar]], and he's more or less forgotten in a month.
* Deke from ''VideoGame/FearEffect'', who is described as a "borderline psychopath" in his profile for both games.
* ''Franchise/FinalFantasy'':
** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII'':
*** Cloud Strife starts out behaving like this when he first meets AVALANCHE, driving [[DaChief Barret]] up the wall due to his abrasiveness, and getting called out by the other members for his behavior, which stems from his being an Ex-[[SuperSoldier SOLDIER]]. It isn't until he meets Aerith that he begins to become [[TookALevelInKindness somewhat nicer]], though he still behaves in a very cocky manner from that point on. [[spoiler:{{Deconstructed}} in that he had never been in SOLDIER in the first place, and he had constructed the persona of an arrogant jerk-off who was a part of SOLDIER in order to get over the [[TraumaCongaLine combined trauma]] of watching [[BigBad Sephiroth]] burn down his hometown, being tortured and experimented on for five years by [[MadScientiest Dr. Hojo]], and having to watch his best friend, [[NiceGuy Zack Fair]], get shot to death by Shinra Infantrymen.]]
*** Cid Highwind is definitely this to Cloud and the rest of the AVALANCHE team, as well as his wife Shera when you first meet him in Rocket Town. In his flashback, he does show some concern about his wife's safety and well-being as she is inspecting the oxygen tanks, aborting the mission to save her life. But in the present setting, he's not very hospitable, telling the guests to "Sit down and drink your goddamn tea", and treats his wife like dirt, as he feels it her fault he didn't make it to space. He completely changes his demeanor to her after making it to space, and the oxygen tank she was inspecting explodes, pinning him to the ground. He apologizes for his treatment of her earlier.
** [[SpellMyNameWithAnS Algus/Argath]] from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyTactics''. He starts off as a knight in a bit of a predicament, since his lord was kidnapped, and he constantly demands that his lord be rescued ASAP. When that's finally done, he then shows a very classist superiority complex that deems commoners trash and deserving to die in the name of nobles, brushes off all opinions that don't match with his, belittles Delita and his sister constantly (never mind that Delita was ''just'' responsible for his lord's rescue), and on top it all of, has no qualms about [[spoiler:killing Delita's sister in front of him]], ''still'' demeaning him and Ramza in the name of his ideals of a world only for nobles, and commoners can die for all he cares. In fact, he is ''so'' reviled (and designed that way, to be sure) that, in the PSP UpdatedRerelease, [[spoiler:you can kill him ''again'']]. And no, his attitude between the first [[spoiler:death]] and the second doesn't get any better.
** Seifer from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIII'' (and in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII'') starts out as this before becoming a RivalTurnedEvil after his FaceHeelTurn. When you first use him in ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIII'', he literally [[KickTheDog kicks a dog]].
** Jecht from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyX'' during the first half of the game. He's emotionally abusive toward Tidus (a mini-game involves Tidus trying to suppress memories of his father's abuse while trying to make a shot), initially a surly, disrespectful drunk while in Spira, and, while drunk, is responsible for accidentally attacking and injuring a shoopuff.
* ''VideoGame/GearsOfWar'':
** Baird, who is a capable soldier, but also a complete Jerkass. Odds are if the humans weren't so strapped for troops, Baird would find himself off the frontlines rather quickly. However, this is something of a deconstruction in that his attitude has seen him busted back down to private numerous times. In his defense, the novel mentions that it's the only thing he can do to keep his sanity. Dom has his search for Maria [[spoiler:until he finds her]], Fenix has his stone-cold demeanor, Cole has his over-the-top gung-ho-ness, and Baird... is a jerk, though he does get more character development in ''Judgement''.
** In the sequel, Dom acts like somewhat of a Jerkass (perhaps unintentionally), with constant references to Snipers around Benjamin Carmine. Although it seems that [[spoiler:Anthony's death was made out to be way more heroic than it actually was, so Ben doesn't even ''know'' he should be offended]].
** In the fourth game, much trouble could have been avoided if First Minister Jinn stopped being an arrogant ass for about two minutes and actually listened to what people were trying to tell her.
%%** Griffin part 3 and Loomis in "Judgement" are the biggest jerks in the series, Paduk also comes across as one at times. (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample)
* ''VideoGame/GodOfWar'':
** The fact that he's an utter asshole is probably one of Kratos's ''least bad'' qualities, but it bears pointing out. He throws a tantrum whenever things don't go his way, snarls and sneers his way through every conversation, and is self-centered, hypocritical, impatient, and petty. It's just that all this is combined with the power to wreck the world, so it seems much grander. Fortunately, by the time the Norse era comes around he's mellowed out into a JerkWithAHeartOfGold.
** Zeus, the king of Olympus and Kratos's father, is considered to be a huge jerk as well. First off, he cheats on Hera constantly and fathered many illegitimate children just like he did in Greek mythology. In [[VideoGame/GodOfWarII the sequel]], he decides to betray and murder Kratos just to prevent a prophecy from being fulfilled, which ironically ends up being fulfilled anyway after Kratos swears revenge. If that's not enough to convince gamers that Zeus is a jerk, there is also the scene where he destroys Sparta and murders innocents there just to punish Kratos, and then Zeus tortures and beats Hephaestus just for lying to him and kidnaps Hephaestus's daughter, Pandora, while treating her as a thing or object and not as a human being. Athena comes to the conclusion that Zeus behaved this way because he was infected with the evil fear, which Kratos unknowingly released from Pandora's box.
** Ares is a huge jerk, as he is shown to be very arrogant and obsessed with killing, and in [[VideoGame/GodOfWarI the first game]], he invades and tries to destroy Athens just to spite Athena for being Zeus's favorite child. His worst act in the series is when he "repays" Kratos for his servitude to Ares by tricking him into killing his own family just because Ares believed that Kratos's family was an obstacle in Kratos's path of becoming a great and powerful warrior.
** Hermes counts too. The way he taunts you all the time about how slow you are makes the player really want to catch him and kill him. [[spoiler:You get to hack his legs off, because you wanted his shoes.]]
** Hera also applies for mostly the same reasons as Hermes. She frequently despises Zeus's illegitimate children, makes rude and sarcastic comments during the boss fight against Hercules, and them she rudely insults Pandora in the maze, which really angers Kratos and makes him snap Hera's neck in a fit of rage. Many fans saw this as a good comeuppance for Hera.
** Most of the characters and gods in the series are portrayed as having a good amount of jerkassery in them. The gods in particular only took a level in that because of the fact that they got infected by the evil that Kratos accidentally unleashed on them.
* ''[[WorldOfJerkass So many characters]]'' in the ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAuto'' franchise, practically every antagonist, sometimes even allies with the protagonist.
** ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoIII'':
*** Catalina is a FetishizedAbuser who was willing to let Claude die in the beginning [[spoiler: and even admitted at the end of the game that dating him was "just business, implying that she only goes out with men who are her ticket to a successful crime life]]. She also has no problems killing anyone who are either useless or for money.
*** Salvatore Leone, when in a really bad mood, can also become a vicious murderer under acute paranoia, [[spoiler: courtesy of CJ nine years prior, of course]]. This is best shown when [[spoiler: he set Claude up by bombing the car he ordered him to get into]].
*** King Courtney seems kind at first, [[spoiler: until we learn [[FauxAffablyEvil it's only a ploy to blind Claude into seeing through his betrayal]]]].
** ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoViceCity'':
*** Lance Vance becomes this after he and Tommy take over [[spoiler: Diaz's mansion]] by lazing around and doing very little work, calling Tommy to whine about how the latter had shouted at him for not actually doing his job, [[spoiler: and then betraying Tommy all because he felt that he deserved more for doing a paucity of work]].
*** Ricardo Diaz is a short-tempered, self-centered drug lord who often throws tantrums over minor accidents and even treats the people who work for him like dirt.
*** Sonny Forelli is Tommy's former boss who is often on his back about the money [[spoiler: and has even revealed himself to have set Tommy up 15 years prior to the events of the game, showing he has no problem selling out his former partner if it meant it would serve him. He is also implied to have sold Tommy out from the start of the game and would have gotten Tommy executed had Tommy given him the money]].
*** Umberto Robina due to his big talk of "balls" and mocking other guys who he feels isn't as brave as he claims to be.
** ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoSanAndreas'':
*** Ryder, despite being [[VitriolicBestBuds CJ's friend]], acts rather aggressive towards him, constantly belittling him for running away five years prior to the game's storyline and also likes to make frequent derogatory comments on his poor driving. He's also excessively rude and short-tempered in general, which isn't helped by his addiction to PCP.
*** Sweet, CJ's brother, isn't much better towards CJ either, as he too hasn't forgiven CJ for leaving, and the Introduction even shows that he cares very little for CJ's fate during the latter's stay all the way in Liberty City. Right after he is released from prison, he [[UngratefulBastard chews out CJ for choosing rags over riches without so much of a "thank you"]] and even goes as far to call CJ a perpetrator for "running from what's real."
*** Tenpenny and Pulaski are two [[DirtyCop corrupt cops]] who constantly like to give CJ a hard time and even make snide remarks about his family, especially Pulaski, who had even joked about other guys ''screwing around with his mother's corpse.''
*** Catalina, as if she hasn't already been bad enough in ''Grand Theft Auto III'' mentioned up above, might be even worse than all of them put together, as she is shown in this game to be a massive psychopath to the point where she threatens physical harm on CJ for making even the slightest mistake, especially during the two's robberies, and she even constantly calls him for no reason other than to annoy him.
** ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoLibertyCityStories'':
*** Toni's mother isn't physically shown. But through her dialogue, she constantly treats her only son like garbage because Toni didn't grow up as fearless as his father and shows no appreciation whenever he does prove how much he can handle problems of his own.
*** Vincenzo Cilli. As if fucking a prostitute while on the phone with his mother just to spite her wasn't bad enough, he even sends Toni to do his dirty work, [[spoiler: only to be revealed to have set Toni up to get killed]].
*** Paulie Sindacco, an ArchEnemy to Salvatore Leone who even mocks Toni while being chased by him.
** ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoViceCityStories'':
*** Lance Vance, despite being on the protagonist's side in this game due to his relationship to said protagonist, is hardly much better here since he is a money-hungry douchebag who only succeeds in getting Vic into far more trouble than intended and at one point even tried to dump all the coke he used behind Vic's back into the ocean out of pure spite.
*** Marty Jay Williams, Louise's husband, constantly abuses Louise and even goes as far to ''[[AbusiveParents threaten to beat down their baby daughter.]]'' Needless to say, killing him was ''extremely'' satisfying.
*** The Mendez brothers after they force the Vance brothers to leave town. When the latter brothers refuse, the former brothers try to have them killed in an oil rig and send their gang to take over their empire buildings.
*** And most definitely not too far behind is the BigBad himself, Jerry Martinez. Not only does he get Vic kicked out of the army due to his own crimes, he also betrays Vic by sending his goons on him and at one point, [[PostRapeTaunt even raped and beat Louise savagely just to proudly taunt Vic]].
%%** ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoIV'': Ray Bulgarin and Dimitri.
%%** ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoV'': Steve Haines, Devin Weston, Stretch, Wei Cheng, Michael's family, Franklin's aunt, Trevor's mother, [[VillainProtagonist Trevor]] ''[[VillainProtagonist himself]]'', and most of the Strangers & Freaks.
* Bedman in ''VideoGame/GuiltyGear Xrd'' speaks to his opponents with barely checked contempt and snark. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Oo58D-Fls8 Just check out his win quotes.]]
* ''VideoGame/HalfLife2'': Episode Two introduces Dr. Arne Magnusson. He is insensitive to the emotional needs of others, will yell at you to keep moving when you are pinned down by enemy fire, and after you save the base (using a weapon he invented) he tries to take all the credit (which, for a scientist, is a mortal sin). Strangely, the vortigaunts (aliens allied to humanity) seem to like him.
* ''VideoGame/HeavyRain'':
** Lt. Carter Blake is this at best. He's the ''epitome'' of a RabidCop, cocky, prone to insulting others for practically nothing, [[JackBauerInterrogationTechnique doesn't hesitate to beat the living shit]] out of anyone he thinks might have information on the Origami Killer case, [[strike:including]] especially when they've done nothing to deserve it, and is constantly hammering on [[ChewToy poor]] [[GoodCopBadCop involuntary partner]] [[TheProfiler Norman Jayden]] unless he ''goes along with him'', partly for being a ByTheBookCop, partly because he doesn't take profiling seriously, and, [[AlternateCharacterInterpretation depending on whom you ask]], partly because he's been working on the Origami Killer case since the killings began [[GreenEyedMonster but hasn't been turning anything up]]. By the time he starts trying to knock the living daylights out of [[PapaWolf Ethan]] [[TheWoobie Mars]] accusing him of kidnapping his own son (if Ethan is arrested), players will probably be feeling an urge to punch him out through the screen if they didn't already. Norman can do that for them, but it's less satisfactory when Blake returns it with ''threat at gunpoint''. It's a miracle that man made it to police lieutenant. The game ''can'' end with him losing his job, but that requires [[spoiler:him to kill Ethan in the finale]].
** Blake's boss, Captain Perry, is also this, as evidenced when he admits to Norman during their first meeting that he doesn't need his help and acts Jerkass on him when he tells him that Blake is beating Ethan up and accuses Blake of being the Origami Killer.
* Zote in ''VideoGame/HollowKnight'' never misses an opportunity to insult and belittle you and insist that you'd be doomed without him. You save his life ''multiple times'' and he never stops shitting on you, going so far as to badmouth you to an infatuated bug in Dirtmouth. [[BoisterousWeakling When you actually fight him, he faceplants comically and accomplishes all of jack]], although there is a dream version that is a little scarier (although still a bumbling doofus).
* ''VideoGame/{{Huniepop}}'': Audrey Belrose is the biggest jerk of the main eight girls the character dates. She's a rude AlphaBitch who constantly swears and yells at everyone and only cares about partying, drugs, and alcohol. During her interactions with [[GlamorousSingleMother Kyanna]], she calls her a whore and yells at her because she's never satisfied with how she does her hair. And she keeps a nasty attitude even when dating the player character.
* President Takao Kuroi from ''VideoGame/TheIdolmaster'' series. Used to be a colleague of your President Takagi until a falling out... then he spends his entire life trying to upstage Takagi in every way, either by sabotaging the 765 Pro idols or by telling nasty rumors about the 765 Pro idols to his idols. He also speaks callously to anything 765 Pro, referring them as PitifulWorms. ''All to feel superior over Takagi.'' He crosses the MoralEventHorizon big time in the anime version.
* Vace in ''VideoGame/IWasATeenageExocolonist'' is a hardened soldier who is completely disrespectful of anyone, except possibly his crewmates. Rex says that everyone pretends to like him but is afraid of calling him out for it, and he is worried about Anemone dating him.
* ''VideoGame/InFamous'' has Dallas, a reporter who holds Cole [=McGrath=] to be the perpetrator of causing the blast with the Ray Sphere. However, [[spoiler:he is forced by Kessler into being this]].
* Erol from the ''VideoGame/JakAndDaxter'' series is in Jak's face constantly from the moment the two characters first meet. Making it that much more satisfying when you finally [[spoiler:blow him to pieces at the end of [[VideoGame/Jak3 the third game]]]].
* Clutch from ''VideoGame/JetSetRadio Future''. He tells you that if you give him a set amount of Graffiti Souls, he'll tell you where Yoyo is being held at, but once you give him the graffiti souls, he steals them from you, so you have to go track him down just to make him speak.
* Rico in ''[[VideoGame/KillZone Killzone 2]]''. He gets a teammate killed, and then, at the end of the game, he ruins things ''forever'' for all of his allies in-universe. It also falls into NiceJobBreakingItHero.
* Cindy from ''VideoGame/{{Kindergarten|2017}}'' is a self-centered, bossy little brat who treats her boyfriends (whom she goes through like tissues) like servants and enjoys bullying other girls. In fact, the very first time the player talks to her, she offers to be the protagonist's girlfriend in exchange for him [[GumInHair putting gum in the hair of]] ShrinkingViolet Lily.
* ''Franchise/KingdomHearts'':
** Xigbar is by definition a {{Troll}}.
** Xaldin torments Beast using psychological warfare, hoping to break him so badly he loses his heart, resulting in the Organization being able to make use of his Heartless and Nobody.
** Larxene is just plain unpleasant. Her first appearance involves her mocking Sora and goading him into trying to remember Namine, [[spoiler:whom he didn't actually know when he was young]], and after being defeated, gives him the second set of world cards with a parting patronizing insult. She also talks down to Namine every chance she gets, especially when [[spoiler:Namine does a HeelFaceTurn and protects Sora]].
* King Dedede from the ''Franchise/{{Kirby}}'' series was this in ''VideoGame/KirbysDreamLand''; he just steals all the food and Sparkling Stars from "his" kingdom with no other reason than the fact that he can. While he has gotten better and became a JerkWithAHeartOfGold as of ''VideoGame/KirbysAdventure'', the side of him is usually there as his main characterization for the spin-offs and the [[Anime/KirbyRightBackAtYa anime]].
* ''VideoGame/LaMulana'':
** [[spoiler:Duracuets, who plays one of the meanest jokes on the player in the history of video games, using ReversePsychology and meta-SchmuckBait.]]
** Lemeza's father, Shorn/[[DubNameChange Shawn]], is kind of a jerkass, too. He left Lemeza at a young age to search for the ruins, [[AllThereInTheManual repeatedly tried to claim Lemeza's findings for himself]], and [[spoiler:steals the Treasure of La-Mulana from his own son at the end of the game]]!
* Roy Earle in ''VideoGame/LANoire''. At first, he is willing to help Cole in the vice cases, but then [[spoiler:he sells him out by revealing his affair with Elsa to the media]].
* ''VideoGame/Left4Dead'':
** The crazy church guy. Instead of letting the survivors into the safehouse with him, he declares them as soon-to-be infected and rings the church bell to summon a horde of zombies. After the attack is over, the church guy changes into a random special infected, allowing you to open the door and exact karma on him. Before the change, Zoey describes him best:
--->'''Zoey:''' Hey, jerkass! Why don't you open the damn door!?
** Francis has fairly hostile dialogue, and it is entirely up to the player at the keyboard if he falls under this trope or JerkWithAHeartOfGold.
** Nick from ''VideoGame/Left4Dead2'' is quite the asshole to Coach and Ellis throughout the game. He insults their hero, Jimmy Gibbs Jr., by saying he looks like an asshole, insults Coach in the tunnel of love by saying "Bring back any memories, Coach? You, a cheeseburger, romance in the air," mocks Ellis' accent ("You can almost call this the CE-met river, Ellis!") and just loves to insult everyone living in the south.
--->'''Nick:''' Why couldn't I have been in Vegas when the zombie outbreak hit? Or Atlantic City? Instead, I'm trapped in some god damn hillbilly tunnel of love! Did you see the sign out front? Cousins only day!
:: : Nick [[TookALevelInJerkass Takes a Level in Jerkass]] in "The Passing"; throwing out multiple insults to the original survivors as well. Francis is characteristically hostile right back, but the calmer Zoey and the downright upbeat Louis also react negatively to him. Here's one example:
---->'''Zoey:''' I'm sorry, I can't lower the bridge!\
'''Nick:''' That's terrific, cupcake. Look, is there a man up there that we can talk to?\
'''Zoey:''' ''[in a mocking, helpless tone]'' Boo hoo! I don't know what to do! ''[angrily]'' Go to Hell, Colonel Sanders!\
'''Rochelle:''' I can't believe you used to be a con artist!\
'''Zoey:''' I can shoot you where you stand!\
'''Nick:''' Would you lighten up? ''[mutters]'' No one can take a joke anymore.
* ''Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda'':
** Linebeck from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaPhantomHourglass'', though towards the end, [[spoiler:Linebeck arguably makes the move to JerkWithAHeartOfGold after he fends off Bellum singlehandedly long enough for Link to regain consciousness]]. This move is furthered by his [[spoiler:wish to the Ocean King afterwards -- he doesn't want gold or treasure in the end; he just wants his ship back]]. Ciela lampshades how out-of-character this is for him throughout.
** Midna from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTwilightPrincess'' who, like Linebeck, simply sees Link as a means to get what she wants, though she starts [[DefrostingIceQueen defrosting]] as early as the end of the second dungeon.
** Another Zelda Jerkass, this time from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime'', is Mido. He's the self-proclaimed boss of the Kokiri, hates Link's guts, and treats all the other Kokiri like dirt (with the exception of Saria). When you meet him in the future, however, he clearly states that he regrets his behavior towards Link after being reminded of him by the adult version of Link, whom he of course doesn't recognize due to the fact that Kokiris don't age and that Link was raised by said people.
** ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkBetweenWorlds'' has Yuga, who is bar none the biggest Jerkass to ever appear in a ''Zelda'' game. The man is a '''''massively''''' condescending prick who pretty much takes the trope and cranks it up until the dial breaks. Every second of the guy's existence has him belittling and insulting everyone he comes across and he seems literally incapable of opening his mouth without calling someone a [[PitifulWorms worm or an insect]].
* ''VideoGame/LieOfCaelum'': Kenzo Vanguard is an arrogant and ambitious student who seeks to attain the highest class rank through any means necessary and wants to humiliate Kyou and Miyu. He goes as far as to threaten to kidnap Miyu in the Astral path or sexually assault her in the True path. Throughout his DuelBoss fight, he smugly talks down to Kyou and gloats about the things he plans to do to Miyu. Despite Aruke's attempts to convince him to change, he doubles down on his antagonism, to the point where he takes advantage of Kyou's Kanotian curse to cause the latter mental pain. According to Aruke, he wasn't always this bad, at least until middle school.
* ''VideoGame/LiveALive'': [[spoiler:Streibough is an incredibly insane, spiteful, hateful, and coldhearted EvilSorcerer who ruins his so-called "best friend's" life, all because he lost a tournament and could not handle that he was always going to be second fiddle. And when Oersted faces him in at the top of the Archon's Roost, he gleefully laughs at him for being so fearful for his safety that he left Hasshe's body to rot. Even after death, he still refuses to apologize for just about everything that he caused.]]
* ''VideoGame/LoveAndPies'':
** Edwina revels in putting her rival and business competitor Amelia down and making sure the latter's mother's café goes out of business.
** A few days before he leaves for the baker's retreat, Joe tells Amelia that his twin brother moved into his house and played loud music in his bedroom, to his annoyance. [[spoiler:After Joe leaves, Sam [[TwinSwitch pretends to be him]] to seduce Amelia, and after he gets caught by the real Joe and leaves, Joe says that it's the worst that Sam had done so far. Sam then moves out of Joe's house the next day, not wanting to face him for what he did, but he occasionally drops by the café to continue harassing Amelia.]]
* ''Franchise/MassEffect'':
** Ambassador Udina. You can do whatever the hell you want, but he will always end up throwing you under the bus for the sake of politics. No wonder the alien characters dislike humans so much...
--->'''Udina:''' ...and why are you bringing this... quarian in here?!\
'''Shepard, Renegade: ''If you'd just shut up for a minute, I'd tell you.'''''
:: : Ironically, Udina is actually ''more'' polite to a fellow {{jerkass}}. On at least one occasion he'll apologize to Shepard for his rudeness if you choose a Renegade response. [[spoiler:Though he mellows down considerably in all of the game's endings as a result of, you know, being forced to admit to his idiocy, he seems outright ''proud'' of you in the Renegade ending if you decide to let the Council die.]]\
In ''VideoGame/MassEffect2'', if you choose Anderson as the human Councilor, [[spoiler:Udina is his assistant. Udina berates Anderson for meeting with Shepard and (possibly) restoring his/her Spectre status.]]
** Let's not forget the Turian Councilor, who will treat you like shit for everything you do. No matter if you [[spoiler:choose to kill the Rachni Queen on Noveria or let her live]], he will rub it up your face, and throw insults at you. He will do stuff like that on every occasion, no matter what you do, and which way you choose. The other two Councilors on the other hand, especially the Asari, seem to be much friendlier. He is even more of a jerkass in the second game.
--->'''Turian Councilor:''' [[MemeticMutation Ah yes]], ''AirQuotes'' "'''[[MemeticMutation Reapers]]'''".
:: : Although in the sequel after that, once the air quotes have been disproven, he mellows down and is the first to offer his help to Shepard and genuinely grateful when [[spoiler:Shepard saves him from being assassinated by Udina]].
** Of course, Renegade Shepard is one of the biggest jerks in the series. No matter how polite you are to him/her, s/he will always find a reason to berate and insult you, even if you meant no wrong. Also, many of his/her choices in both games show him/her acting like a jerk just for the fun of it. Furthermore, s/he thinks the most measured and polite response to most people is to either punch them or shove a gun into their faces. There's also the fact that, in the Renegade playthrough of Zaeed's loyalty mission, [[spoiler:s/he thinks Zaeed burning down a factory with lots of innocent people trapped inside was a good idea, [[MoralEventHorizon and even says to him "If you say Vido dies, he dies]]."]]
** Jack is an online {{Troll}} in her spare time and picks fights with crew members, and can go from not bad by pure renegade Female Shep standards to an utter asshole that has driven away many a potential love interest. If Shepard can break through the many levels of bitchiness she gets better, but until s/he can, Jack is perhaps the biggest Jerkass squad member in the series. If she survived ''2'', by ''VideoGame/MassEffect3'', she has clearly become a JerkWithAHeartOfGold along with a BadassTeacher for biotic kids and teenagers. She's still crass as ever, [[CoolTeacher but her students like her even more for it]]. And if ''anyone'' tries to screw with her kids...[[MamaBear well, hope they have life insurance]].
** Zaal'Koris vas Quib-Quib, [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold to an extent]], from Tali's Loyalty Mission, does everything in his power to make Tali's life harder. He's actually the OnlySaneMan among the admirals, as he genuinely wants to make peace with the Geth... but his position puts him in direct opposition to Tali's father, and, by extension, Tali herself, so he's actively antagonistic for most of the trial. He simmers down if Shepherd both successfully defends Tali and speaks in favor of peace with the Geth, though. This carries over in the sequel whereas he lives up his OnlySaneMan status and helps in brokering peace between Quarians and Geth.
** After Zaal'Koris gets nicer, as mentioned above, Han'Gerrel becomes the Jerkass who is too hell bent on destroying the Geth, even risking blowing up Shepard and Tali along with the Geth Dreadnought they're in, and could possibly lead the Quarians to utter genocide just to destroy the Geth.
* ''VideoGame/MasterDetectiveArchivesRainCode'':
** The Amaterasu Corporation Peacekeepers are a special case, with all of them counting, but of those that stand out more:
*** Seth Burroughs in Chapter 1, while still [[spoiler:following Yomi's orders in the end, considering Yomi is the reason for his corrupt behavior]], covers up the Nail Man case and frames a watchmaker for it for his own sadistic glee, and threatens a public execution for the watchmaker with little regard for his or anyone else's life. He threatens to arrest Yakou Furio, the leader of the titular detectives, solely because his detectives decided to investigate what he's trying to cover up and he has to hide his ''own'' corruption as well, and when the time limit runs out, he unnecessarily mocks him for thinking he had extra, as if what he was ''already'' doing wasn't cruel enough.
*** Martina Electro in Chapter 2 laughs at Yuma for thinking that the truth matters, then goes on a hammy rant that MightMakesRight to his face when [[spoiler:Karen, the chapter's victim, dies onstage during a school play]], and clearly shows no concern for the truth or why it happened whatsoever. The end result is [[spoiler:her then threatening to shoot Yuma (and his assistant Desuhiko) upon discovering they've been investigating behind her back and continuing to be a self-righteous jerk about it, acting like her behavior is in the name of justice when it clearly isn't.]]
*** Guillaume and Dominic in Chapter 3 only go after Yuma because the former wants someone new to hunt, and they clearly don't really care for upholding the law. Then when [[spoiler:Shachi dies later on in their attempt to dismantle the resistance against Amaterasu when Yuma's framed as a terrorist, they cause his death indirectly and then blame Yuma for it since he was already their scapegoat. After a long chase, they finally reach him and intend to brutally torture him for something that wasn't his fault.]]
*** Yomi Hellsmile, the director of the Amaterasu Corporation Peacekeepers, is a rude, violent, narcissistic jerk who only upholds the law in the way that benefits his own ends, and constantly twists the truth to keep his public image afloat, without regard for the lives of other people. He's also a BadBoss, and doesn't care for his own subordinates either. It's mostly because of his apathy towards everyone around him that Kanai Ward is in the state that it is by the present day. This is taken to extremes when [[spoiler:he uses Yakou Furio as a pawn to kill Amaterasu Corporation's head researcher for betraying him six months ago solely because someone who works for him dared to actually rebel against him, something he most certainly didn't want.]]
** Being the head researcher of [[EvilInc Amaterasu Corporation]], it's inevitable that [[spoiler:Dr. Huesca is quite the jerk himself, as he is a MadScientist who shows no regard for human life, constantly insults everyone around him, and is apparently willing to challenge an entire governmental faction with the idea that he could complete his own homunculus research before they could. While his clone doesn't learn of the results, and even if his original self is the one that had a HeelRealization, it's very clear that this man would not really care for who gets harmed with his experiments unless he had to suffer the {{Karmic Death}}s that he did.]]
* Woden the Mighty of ''VideoGame/{{Medievil}}'' makes no secret of how he utterly despises [[FakeUltimateHero Sir Dan Fortesque]], demands that you call him "''Mr.'' Woden the Mighty", and generally treats you like crap. A book about him in the Sleeping Village library notes that he was just this bad to everyone else when he was alive.
* Bass in ''VideoGame/MegaManClassic'' is incredibly arrogant and constantly insults anyone he sees as weak.
* ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolidVThePhantomPain'' has Dr. Huey Emmerich, the technological brains behind the Diamond Dogs, as well as their predecessors, Militaires Sans Frontières...up until he screwed everyone over by [[spoiler:letting Cipher destroy Mother Base due to letting fake "UN inspectors" onto the base, then entering Cipher's employ under Skull Face]], all of which [[NeverMyFault he continuously denies]], to everyone's annoyance. He was reluctantly brought back into the Diamond Dogs' fold because [[CantKillYouStillNeedYou he had his uses]], up until [[spoiler:he causes an outbreak of the vocal chord parasites on the new Mother Base, forcing Venom Snake to euthanize several of his soldiers. This, combined with evidence that he planned to sell the Diamond Dogs out to Cipher, along with the bombshell that he planned to use his son, Hal, as a pilot for his new Metal Gear, then murdered Hal's mother when she protested. After this (and his technology being reverse-engineered), everyone unanimously decides [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness he no longer has a place among the Diamond Dogs.]]]]
* In ''VideoGame/MonkeyIsland'', some of Guybrush Threepwood's actions are questionable, such as [[AndIMustScream trapping a salesman inside a coffin]] (though he redeems himself for that in the next game) and framing an innocent woman for crimes he himself did, just so he can steal her Near-Grog. He also kills [=LeChuck=]'s [[TheDragon Dragon]] from [[VideoGame/TheSecretOfMonkeyIsland the first game]], despite that he was good all along and helped rescue Elaine to get revenge on [=LeChuck=] for murdering him and his crew (though one could say it's a mercy killing, as he's a ghost skeleton) and then there's [[VideogameCrueltyPotential all the stuff you can do to Murray in]] [[VideoGame/TheCurseOfMonkeyIsland the third game]].
* ''VideoGame/{{Mother}}'':
** Porky ''freaking'' Minch. Let's elaborate: [[spoiler:After hearing Buzz-Buzz's prophecy and running off, he aligns himself with a cult leader and assists in the kidnapping of a young girl, steals an expensive helicopter away from the heroes and crashes it into a swamp, and finally assists in the final boss battle because he felt it was "the winning path" before he runs away to a different time period.]] And that's not even getting into [[spoiler:what happens later in ''VideoGame/MOTHER3'', where he [[PlayerPunch founds a warped dictatorship that takes over the protagonist Lucas's home country, kills his mother and twin brother, and reanimates his brother's corpse, who is forced to aid Porky in his world takeover, and ultimately, fight against Lucas at the end]].]] And, let's not forget about him brainwashing a corporate executive. And becoming [[spoiler:Giygas's ''direct assistant'']].
** On a lesser note, Fassad (or Yokuba [[spoiler:or Locria]], whichever you prefer). He proves his douchiness by regularly electrocuting Salsa (on top of stealing a Luxury Banana if you grab it during Chapter 3) on top of the slave labor, and when Lucas and company figure out the truth about the Thunder Tower, he gives the order to evacuate him and ''then'' blow it up. [[spoiler:And let's not forget that his leaking the truth of the world to Porky was half the reason things got to be as fucked up as they are. The fact that he is reassembled as a chimera simply cheats the player out of a karmic death (he slipped on a banana atop said tower) while doing jack to detract from the douchiness.]]
* Bricks Jr, one of the three commentators of ''VideoGame/MutantFootballLeague'', spends all game hurling abuse at his co-host Grim Blitzrow, his actual host (being a parasitic growth on his shoulder) "Brickhead" Mulligan, and at the players on the field. He will even start insulting ''[[BreakingTheFourthWall you]]'', if you make certain questionable calls or don't kill a corrupt referee fast enough for his taste. While witty enough to be entertaining in his mud slinging, it's still quite satisfying anytime he starts complaining about inadvertently suffering at Bricks' hands, either losing to him yet again in "Dead Mutant Bingo" or getting gassed half to death after a trip to [[BlandNameProduct Taco Hell]]. Grim narrowly avoids being a full Jerkass simply because he's more tactical about when he insults Bricks, and his jabs usually come off as friendly ribbing compared to Junior's venom-laden invective.
* Tubbs from ''VideoGame/NekoAtsume''. Unlike other cats who nibble a few bites from the bowl and then play with your toys, Tubbs will gobble the entire bowl and then lounge next to it with a smug look on their face. It's not uncommon for players to put out food, close the app, come back maybe 2-3 minutes later, only to discover that Tubbs has beaten everyone else to the punch. Oh, and don't think of putting out Thrifty Bitz to stop him from eating food you actually pay for, because ''[[PickyEater he won't eat it]]''.
* Bishop from ''VideoGame/NeverwinterNights2'' certainly has his moments. If the player character is female, he gets to call her a whore, and his personality and actions definitely get him in trouble with LawfulGood [[KnightInShiningArmor Paladin]] Casavir. Somehow still manages to be [[AllGirlsWantBadBoys popular with the ladies]].
* ''VideoGame/NobodySavesTheWorld'': Randy the Rad, Nostramagus's (repeatedly held-back) assistant acts incredibly condescending when you first encounter him, immediately demanding that you fetch him a complicated coffee order. [[spoiler:Nostramagus himself turned out to be an arrogant asshole as well, and Randy's behavior could be explained as him trying to imitate his mentor. The second he rejects Nostramagus, Randy becomes a lot more competent and pleasant.]]
* ''VideoGame/OctopathTraveler:''
** Helgenish is the abusive tavern owner in Sunshade. He treats the dancers he employs like slaves and takes joy in abusing them in every way, especially Primrose.
** [[spoiler:Miguel Twinspears]], the Chapter 3 Boss of Alfyn's story is a remorseless asshole who will gleefully take advantage of other people's compassion. [[spoiler:He lays there dying when Alfyn meets him in Saintsbridge, only to go and kidnap a child for ransom after Alfyn saves his life. Then when Alfyn confronts him, he brags about how he used him and tries to kill him.]]
* While Dedan, the first Guardian you fight in ''VideoGame/{{OFF}}'', may not actively kill his subjects like [[FallenHero Japhet]] or get them addicted to sugar like [[CorruptCorporateExecutive Enoch]], he is a pure Jerkass through and through. He has a [[HairTriggerTemper nasty temper]], [[BadBoss constantly berates his workers]], and even leaves the Elsens in one area to take care of the spectres themselves out of spite. [[spoiler:Encountering him in the final area of the game shows that at one point in time he may have been a JerkWithAHeartOfGold.]]
* Waka in ''VideoGame/{{Okami}}'' comes off this way, given that he goes out of his way to come to blows with Amaterasu every time the player encounters him, and although he's not ThatOneBoss, his fights are tough for someone that the player shouldn't be fighting in the first place...
* ''VideoGame/TheOrionConspiracy'' has a security guy named Ward, who establishes himself as this at the beginning of the game. One of the captains says that he is the most racist, sexist, bigoted guy that the Company could hire for security. In fact, when Devlin asks Ward what he does on the space stations, Ward gives this as the answer...
-->'''Ward:''' Listen, Irish, we got niggers, kikes, slant-eyes, spics and asians all cooped up within spittin' distance of each other. If it wasn't for me, we'd have all sorts of racial shit breakin' out.
: : Also, at least one character refers to Ward as a redneck. The interesting (and ironic) part is when you find out that Ward's first name is [[spoiler:Malachi, a name used mostly in Ireland as an anglicization of two Gaelic names]].
* Marcus Dryden from ''VideoGame/{{Palworld}}'' is an arrogant asshole who abuses the people he and his police force are supposed to protect by giving them drugs, having them arrested and fined, taking back the drugs, and repeating the process all over. His diary reveals he's also been giving his [[{{mon}} Faleris]] those same narcotics to keep it docile, even though Pals are already loyal to their trainers when they capture them. This diary entry pretty much sums up how he feels about the people he's supposed to be protecting:
--> "If I let 'em get carried away, they'll just go off demanding rights that ain't fit for garbage like them."
* ''Franchise/{{Persona}}'':
** ''VideoGame/Persona4'':
*** Kinshiro Morooka, a.k.a. King Moron. From the first minute he shows up as your homeroom teacher, he shows himself to be a complete jerk who thinks that all teenagers are horny troublemakers and that you are nothing but trouble from the city -- and he places you on his "shit list" three seconds after meeting you. According to the other students, he won't think twice about suspending you if you get on his bad side. Kanji also mentions at one point that he heard Morooka openly badmouthing the murder victims. That said, the entire party, who hate his guts, agree that [[spoiler:the man really didn't deserve to die at Mitsuo's hands]], and students at Yasogami High light upon a HiddenHeartOfGold [[spoiler:after his death]].
*** [[spoiler:Tohru Adachi]] {{Exaggerate|dTrope}}s this by essentially murdering two people because [[spoiler:they rejected his romantic advances (read: super-creepy attempts to proposition them)]] and then tricking another guy into attempting several more murders just so he could sit back and watch. And when called out on it, his answer is basically "Yeah, so what?"
** ''VideoGame/Persona5'': Most of the targets of the Phantom Thieves are people who are highly saturated with jerkassery all over them.
*** Suguru Kamoshida. The Megami Tensei Wiki puts it best: "He is a lustful, vain, cruel, and utterly selfish bully". He makes sexual advances on his female students, beats the members of his volleyball team until they're black and blue, ''[[spoiler:drives one student to attempt suicide]]'', and remorselessly abuses his authority and reputation to get away with it all. It's to the point where he sees all of Shujin Academy as his own personal castle and everyone in it as his slaves.
*** Ichiryusai Madarame. He plagiarizes his own students' artwork as his own, he is a sleazy con artist who cheats people who want to buy the Sayuri painting out of their money by giving them counterfeits, and he [[spoiler:committed negligent homicide on Yusuke's mother by neglecting to call an ambulance when she had a seizure, all so he could gain full custody and bragging rights over her Sayuri painting]].
*** Masayoshi Shido. He is jerkassery ''incarnate''. He causes the events of the game by stalking women and when he gets caught by the protagonist doing it, he gets the protagonist arrested on false charges. He then has [[spoiler:his own son, Goro Akechi,]] assassinate people in an attempt to demonize the Phantom Thieves and make them look like criminals instead of superheroes to the public. He then runs for prime minister of Japan for selfish gain. If that's not enough, he had Futaba's mother killed, forged a suicide note to demonize Futaba, driving her into a ''suicidal depression'', stole her mom's research, and later has [[spoiler:Haru's father]] killed just so he can frame the Phantom Thieves for their death. And for an added kick in the teeth, his Shadow Self admits he only sees [[spoiler:Akechi]] as a tool to be disposed of when YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness. Even beyond his megalomania, his demeanor is also relentlessly arrogant and hostile, and he condescends to and antagonizes everyone around him.
* ''VideoGame/PhantomBrave'': Up until the end of the game, almost everyone in Ivoire. The worst offender would be the elder Owl from the 2nd chapter. Upon hearing that Marona is the ''Possessed One'', she goes from nice owl lady to complete Jerkass, yelling at Marona and refusing to pay her after all she had done. And then, if that wasn't enough, she criticizes her parents while she's at it.
%%** Walnut qualifies. However, [[spoiler:he's a much nicer person in ''VideoGame/SoulNomadAndTheWorldEaters'' (and a lot cooler to boot)]]. (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample)
* In ''VideoGame/PillarsOfEternity'', there is very little to like about [[MadOracle Durance]]. Edér doesn't appreciate his virulent hatred of Eothasians, Hiravias isn't exactly happy with his racism against orlans (Durance will tell an orlan Watcher to their face that the orlans ''deserved'' to be conquered and enslaved), Aloth doesn't appreciate Durance shaming him for not being "manly" enough [[spoiler:nor does Iselmyr appreciate his AbhorrentAdmirer tendencies]], none of the women are keen on his misogyny and lechery, Grieving Mother will uncharacteristically make jokes at his expense, and even Kana, who otherwise has a good word for everybody, washes his hands of Durance. The only party member who gets along with him at all is Devil, a bronze golem serial killer, which says it all really.
* Alex Mercer, the AntiHero[=/=]borderline VillainProtagonist of ''VideoGame/{{Prototype}}''. He threatens to leave a middle-aged scientist to be torn apart by zombies at one point, just for not moving fast enough for his liking (and that guy's one of his very few ''allies''). Not everyone has [[LeParkour super parkour powers]], Alex! About the only person he doesn't act like a total dick towards is [[MoralityPet his younger sister]]. [[spoiler:It doesn't help that the ''real'' Alex was ''even worse'', and didn't give two shits about her.]]
* ''VideoGame/PunchOut'' has its share of colorful characters with varying levels of respect for Little Mac, but the two worst offenders are [[{{Oireland}} Aran Ryan]] and [[EagleLand Super Macho Man]]. Aran at least has the excuse that he's ''[[AxCrazy completely psycho]]'', but Super Macho Man doesn't have that vindication, being an arrogant, childish AttentionWhore, which stands out rather starkly against the very colorful characters they designed for the remake. Simply put, Super Macho Man is a douchebag, and most players are ''thrilled'' to punch him right in his big smug face.
* ''VideoGame/RatchetAndClank2002'':
** After [[spoiler:the titular duo are betrayed by Captain Qwark]], Ratchet holds a grudge and becomes extremely hostile and uncooperative with Clank. This lasts through most of the rest of the game. At times he's a real asshole. Good thing later games made him nicer.
** Speaking of [[spoiler:Captain Qwark, he too qualifies, whether it be setting events up to make someone, usually Ratchet, look like the bad guy in order to portray himself as the hero, or sending someone else to do the dirty work and take all the credit]].
* Edgar Ross from ''VideoGame/RedDeadRedemption'' spends most of his time annoying the hell of John. [[spoiler:And that's before he betrays him and has him killed.]]
* Jake from ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil6'' starts out as an arrogant jerkass, demanding truckloads of money for every enemy he kills along the way, as well as an obscene amount of money just for a vial of his blood (which can cure the C Virus). He even goes so far as to make Sherry Birkin call up her superiors and negotiate prices on his behalf. He even threatens Chris and Piers' squad when they meet, saying he's not a threat... ''unless someone pays him to be''. Chris holds his cool, but Piers doesn't take it too well. He quickly opens up to her though, once he realizes Sherry's not as incompetent as she looks, and that they need to work together to have any chance of surviving. Towards the end, he becomes a full-on JerkWithAHeartOfGold when he begins to see Sherry as a friend, and waives all his fees, asking a mere $50 for his services.
* The Boss in the ''VideoGame/SaintsRow'' series on a bad day. And that's putting it lightly...
-->'''The Boss:''' Evil me is kind of an asshole.\
'''Asha:''' Good you is kind of an asshole.
* Sumire Kanzaki, the TeamPrimaDonna and RichBitch of Tokyo's Flower Division from ''VideoGame/SakuraWars''. As the series progresses, she becomes more of a JerkWithAHeartOfGold, but still is initially a jerk.
* ''Franchise/ShinMegamiTensei'':
** Most of the Chaos-aligned characters are this. It seems they don't care about anyone but themselves. However, as the game progresses, they become [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Jerks With a Heart of Gold]], showing some respect to TheHero.
** Law isn't much better, as they adapt a "Believe in and worship God or we'll kick your sorry ass" approach.
** In ''VideoGame/ShinMegamiTenseiIV'', a lot of the residents of Tokyo are pretty rude and blunt compared to the much kinder folks from Mikado. For example, shopkeepers in Mikado will talk to you in a manner along the lines of "Hello, may I help you? Thank you, come again!", but the {{Yakuza}}-esque weapons dealers like to say things like "This is real, right?" (when you sell them items), "You still got business here?" (when you go through menus), and "Make sure you bring more Macca next time!" (when you leave).
* At the beginning of ''VideoGame/Shivers1995'', the first thing you see is you being locked in a haunted museum by your friends. Never mind the fact that two kids went missing in there before and were never seen again, they just laugh and joke about it. Then they have the gall to go see a movie together while you fight for your life.
* ''VideoGame/SimonTheSorcerer'': Simon himself. He wouldn't even ''be'' the hero of the series if it were up to him.
* ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'':
** Dr. Eggman, while [[LaughablyEvil providing more than enough comedy]], is still a selfish, egotistical maniac.
** Shadow the Hedgehog as well, who's an arrogant, violent, egotistical arch-rival to Sonic, though he does double as JerkWithAHeartOfGold at times [[DependingOnTheWriter depending on his portrayal in whatever game he appears in]].
** The Babylon Rogues from ''VideoGame/SonicRiders'' are probably the biggest ones of them all. Jet is an arrogant CompetitionFreak, Wave is an InsufferableGenius, and Storm, though more sympathetic than the former two, is still quite rude. In addition, unlike the other characters of the game's Antro-cast, Jet and Wave have no redeeming qualities.
* ''VideoGame/StarControl'':
** The VUX ''say'' that our [[HumansAreTheRealMonsters first contact with them]] was so insulting that they hate us forever... until, after a long and arduous process of convincing them humanity is ''truly'' sorry for the insult involved, we discover their [[HumansAreUgly real reason that they can't put up with us]] and attack anyways, at which point the player realizes (if he hasn't already) that they're just incredibly thin-skinned and self-centered snobs.
** The Umgah's pranks couldn't be called anything but mean-spirited. After all, their greatest successes have been forcibly enlisting the most cowardly race on the planet as battle thralls for the Ur-quan (they wanted to just be slaves; no fighting that way), and impersonating the Ilwrath's gods so they'll slaughter the Pkunk. Oh, and if you save them from [[spoiler:the awakened Dnyarri]], they'll declare you a hero to the entire race, give you gifts, and then declare that having a hero is boring and make you their new great ''enemy'' because that's more fun. And their later apology's fake, just something to lead you into a different trap. That is one warped sense of humor these guys have.
* Pigma in the ''Franchise/StarFox'' games, particularly ''VideoGame/StarFox64'', with lines like "Daddy screamed reeeal good before he DIED!" He betrayed James and Peppy for money during their mission to Venom in the backstory of ''64'', and doesn't get along any better with Star Wolf; Wolf and Leon kick Pigma out of the group by the start of ''VideoGame/StarFoxAssault''.
* In the snowboarding game ''Stoked'', fail a trick and hurt yourself going off a thirty-foot drop and the instructor will mock, taunt, and laugh at you. ''As you hurt yourself going off a thirty-foot drop.''
* ''Franchise/StreetFighter'' has [[ArrogantKungFuGuy Adon]], who is definitely one of the straightest versions of this trope in the series while not being completely evil. He's an extremely arrogant hot-head that [[PerpetualSmiler constantly]] [[SlasherSmile has a]] ''[[SlasherSmile very]]'' [[SlasherSmile smug]] [[CheshireCatGrin and grotesque grin on his face]], shows nothing but extreme contempt for all other fighters, has a very savage and brutal fighting style, and feels that he is a self-proclaimed "god" of Muay Thai. Plus, many SF players find his voice (and in some cases, his general character design) to be obnoxious.
* The ''VideoGame/{{Suikoden}}'' series has Luc, who is one of the most powerful wizards in the entire series, but also a petty dick. In ''VideoGame/SuikodenII'', his only Combo attack is with two warrior-types. They rush forward to attack the enemy... and he blasts them ''and'' the enemy with a massive air attack, damaging both of them. That's right: He's such a petty dick that it actually affects the game mechanics.
* ''Franchise/SuperMarioBros'':
** Bowser is portrayed as such in the spinoffs, since they have a more comical tone than the main series.
** Wario in the ''VideoGame/WarioWare'' games. He's a fat, lazy, ill-tempered slob who never pays his employees... and yet they keep working for him.
** Waluigi is probably one of the greatest examples in videogames. He is supremely awful and takes every opportunity to demonstrate it openly. He makes it his entire life purpose to torment others and cause chaos and mischief. He takes glee in even the most petty acts of malice. Whether it is making a Fly Guy get dizzy or hypnotizing the world into causing chaos, he will do whatever it takes to be the best and make everyone miserable. And why? Because he hates pretty much everything and everyone, but especially Luigi, almost to the point of obsession.
** In ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiDreamTeam'', there are a few. Like the Dream Stone's spirit, who seemingly has no interest in just telling the characters where its real world equivalent was taken to, tells them to get lost in the rudest way possible, and mocks their way of speaking and comments before turning into a giant robot and trying to kill them.
* In ''VideoGame/SupraMayroKratt'', all three players occasionally say "You cannot beat me" after passing the "[[IntentionalEngrishForFunny finnish line]]", even when you're a lap ahead of them.
* ''VideoGame/TalesSeries'':
** The Pope from ''VideoGame/TalesOfSymphonia''. Where to begin with this bastard? [[spoiler:He starts up a ''ton'' of anti-half-elf laws (despite his daughter being one), plots with Vharley to poison the King so he can take over the country, labels the heroes as bad guys plotting to destroy the world (making it ''much'' harder to get around), kidnaps an entirely innocent princess just for a shot at taking them down, and, perhaps worst of all, tries to kill his own daughter ''twice'', even though she was doing everything she could to help him!]]
** ''VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss'':
*** Luke fon Fabre, the protagonist, is a major-league {{Jerkass}} for the first fourth of the game -- however, it's pretty clear that almost no-one else in the party ''can'' stand him, and only follow him because their goals overlap. Upon finally reaching a point where his scant redeeming features stop making up for his obnoxious personality, they abandon him until he's cleaned up his act... which he ''does'', [[TheAtoner and then some]].
*** Many of the party members may also fall into either Jerkass or JerkWithAHeartOfGold territory depending on the player's point of view. Jade and Anise, for example, are frequently rude and can have very sharp tongues; whether their moments of kindness and good intentions qualify them for Hearts of Gold is up for debate. And after a certain tragedy, the fact that the entire party places the blame solely on Luke's shoulders and abandons him until he shapes up -- ignoring the extenuating circumstances -- also land Luke's teammates in this role for some.
*** The game's most overt, unrepentant example of this, however, is Sync the Tempest. All the other God-Generals have [[WorthyOpponent noble qualities]] or PetTheDog moments, but not Sync. He'll KickTheDog or hurl insults at every opportunity, and while his comrades want to [[WellIntentionedExtremist make the world a better place]], [[spoiler:all Sync wants is to [[SuicidalCosmicTemperTantrum destroy the world that gave him his wretched existence]].]]
%%*** Mohs is much worse then a mere JerkAss. [[MoralEventHorizon Much]] [[PlayerPunch worse]].
%%*** Dist is this to a slightly lesser extent than Mohs.
%%** In ''VideoGame/TalesOfSymphoniaDawnOfTheNewWorld'', we get to meet a [[UpperClassTwit trio of Tethe'allan nobles]] on a tour through the Sylvaranti areas of the new world. (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample)
* The Scout from ''VideoGame/TeamFortress2''. Granted, most of the people he insults are actively trying to kill him, but the way he acts in his "Meet the Team" video sort of reveals that he would act that way to just about anyone.
%%* ''Franchise/TombRaider'': (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample)
%%** Eckhardt in ''VideoGame/TombRaiderAngelOfDarkness''.
%%** Amanda and Rutland in ''VideoGame/TombRaiderLegend''.
* Eric Sparrow of ''VideoGame/TonyHawksUnderground''. A whiny little creep who pretty much thinks he's God's gift to skating. Half of the shit you go through is because of the antics that he forces you into and the other half is him trying to upstage you, going so far as to steal a tape you and he made of you jumping over an active helicopter. It's very cathartic when, in the alternate ending, [[spoiler:instead of racing for the tape, you just knock him out and take it back]].
* Almost everyone from ''Franchise/TouhouProject'' is one kind of jerkass or another, with the constant barrage of insults, provoking into battles, and naughty words that would make any real Japanese faint from the cruelty. It's even noted in-game that for having the title Shrine Maiden, Reimu Hakurei can be a real asshole. Fanon, naturally, takes this further.
%%* [[GlamorousWartimeSinger Rosie]] from ''VideoGame/ValkyriaChronicles'' starts out as this, especially to Isara. She gets better, especially to Isara, [[spoiler:most notably after Fauzen]]. Prince Maximillian and General Damon are practically incurable examples, Cezary also applies, who was such a jerk that it took a memory-reseting brain injury to change his ways. (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample)
* ''VideoGame/Wasteland2: Director's Cut'' lets you create a jerkass character by giving them the "Asshole" quirk, which ensures that "Hard Ass" dialogue options always succeed, but precludes the squad from being able to use "Kiss Ass" or "Smart Ass" options.
* ''VideoGame/WaveRace Blue Storm'''s hidden announcer, who constantly berates your skills, make sarcastic remarks, begs for the race to end, and doesn't give a crap if you actually win races.
-->[[HaveANiceDeath "You don't have an inferiority complex. You're just inferior."]]
* ''VideoGame/WingCommander'': Dirk "Stingray" Wright is this to you in ''[[VideoGame/WingCommanderTheKilrathiSaga Wing Commander II]]'', even after you save his bacon. He's hostile toward [[PlayerCharacter Blair]], blaming him for the destruction of the Tiger's Claw, and is quick to suspect Mariko "Spirit" Tanaka of being a traitor.
%%** Admiral Tolwyn in ''Wing Commander III'' and ''[[VideoGame/WingCommanderIVThePriceOfFreedom Wing Commander IV]]'' isn't exactly a sweetheart, either. (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample)
* ''VideoGame/TheWorldEndsWithYou'': Joshua [Yoshuya Kiryuu], who gets the main character to want to choke him to death about ten seconds after they meet. [[spoiler:Well, okay, that's actually the second time they meet, [[LaserGuidedAmnesia not that Neku remembers]]. The ''first'' time, Josh killed him. And he does it again by the end of the game. Go Josh!]] Thing is, he's a Jerkass and does it on purpose. That's what he's loved for, actually -- well, that and the (not so) AmbiguouslyGay attitude.
* There are more than a few of these in ''VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft''.
** One that springs immediately to mind without sparking a huge debate is Arch Druid Fandral Staghelm. He has a FreudianExcuse -- his son was killed during the War of Shifting Sands -- but is rude, bossy and unappreciative to ''everyone'', both players and [=NPCs=]. The only people he seems to care for at all are his son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter.
** Let's not forget Marshal "I hate you, long-eared freak, now go and protect my country from the Undead" Garithos, who talks down to Kael'thas and the other elves, and has them jailed for allying with the Naga to complete a mission that would otherwise have been impossible. He even [[BullyingADragon insults the dreadlord]] he teams up with to retake Lordaeron, and his last words before Sylvanas has Varimathras kill him are [[UngratefulBastard insulting them and demanding that they get out of his city]].
** The two remaining Barov brothers, Alexi and Weldon are quite condescending to the player, and belittle them while sending them to kill the other sibling. As of ''Cataclysm'', however, Alexi no longer has the quest for his inheritance, and treats the player with the same politeness that most questgivers do, while Weldon remains as arrogant as before.
** Garrosh Hellscream [[TookALevelInJerkass becomes more aggressive and unpleasant]] in ''Wrath'' and ''Cataclysm'', becomeing eager to pick fights with the Alliance and butting heads with many of the more experienced Horde leaders who were supposed to advise him. He gets even worse in ''Mists of Pandaria'', and ends up committing war crimes and trying to have his critics killed, leading to a civil war in the Horde. During his final duel with Thrall in ''Warlords of Draenor'', Garrosh [[NeverMyFault blames Thrall for making him the person he became]], despite the fact that Garrosh had often badmouthed Thrall([[UngratefulBastard the person who'd helped show him the truth about his father]]) and had been glad to replace him.
** Genn Greymane, king of Gilneas, cut ties with the rest of the Alliance over what the Second War cost his nation. He ended up building a wall cutting off Gilneas from the rest of the Eastern Kingdoms, thereby sitting out the Third War. He only rejoined the Alliance in Cataclysm, after Gilneas was devastated by the worgen attacks and the Forsaken invsion, but his abrasive attitude resulted in him coming into conflict with Varian. He gradually mellows out over time, but can still be crotchety and short-tempered.
** ''Dragonflight'' adds Fyrakk, the Primal Incarnate of Fire. It rather makes him stand out among his siblings; Raszageth is a hammy fanatic, Iridikron is a calm manipulator, and Vyranoth is stern but relatively reasonable, but their villainous acts always serve some practical purpose for their cause. Fyrakk, on the other hand, spends much of his screentime being pointlessly cruel to everyone unfortunate enough to cross his path, whether they pose a serious threat to him or not and regardless of any actual benefit beyond his own amusement.
* ''VideoGame/YesYourGrace'': While a guest in Eryk's castle, King Talys spends a lot of time reminding Eryk that his kingdom is much more prosperous that Eryk's, is dismissive of Eryk's daughters, and is shown to not care much about his own son Ivo beyond the fact that Ivo has been pestering him to find him a wife and Eryk's oldest daughter is of marriageable age. That includes attempting to leave the wedding as soon as he can get away with it to continue research he's been doing in Eryk's library.
%%* Cecilia in ''VideoGame/YouAreNotTheHero'' is pretty jerky towards Petula, who just wants her pendant back. (Administrivia/ZeroContextExample)
