[[folder: General]]
* The second ending sequence of the 1999 anime shows the main characters lounging by a beach as if they were couples. There's Gon and Killua, Kurapika and Leorio, and Hisoka and Illumi. The ending theme, "E-Jan - Do You Feel Like I Feel", has lyrics that almost seem to imply romance between these characters.
* Not In-Character, but the song "Song of Promise" or "Yakusoku no Uta", both Killua and Gon sing the respective parts, but on the other side Hisoka's and Chrollo's voice actors sing the parts as well together.
[[/folder]]
[[folder: Gon/Killua]]
* Killua and Gon have a ''lot'' of this together, especially coming from Killua's side. The only thing that really seems to be keeping it firmly in the realm of "subtext so thick you could cut blocks of it out of the air with a knife and sell it as cheap building material" is the fact that they're both ''twelve'', and neither of them seems to have hit puberty yet.
* Killua has a habit of [[LongingLook staring at Gon]] and blushing whenever Gon compliments him or is generally sweet to him; which some fans take as CrushBlush.
* Killua's {{Tsundere}} nature comes out mostly when around Gon, he usually shows his ''deredere'' side to Gon, but whenever Gon compliments him or is sweet to him, Killua's ''tsuntsun'' comes out complete with blushes.
* They spend much of the Whale Island arc sharing their feelings and promising never to be apart, and then there's the lyrics of the 1999 anime's first theme tune: "I put my arm around your shoulders and hold hands, because I want to stay either your lover or friend" (with shots of Gon next to Killua and Leorio next to Kurapika).
* After Killua calms down a fuming Gon at the start of the Greed Island Arc, the latter honestly thanks him with a big smile for coming to play the game with him and being with him, surprising the former. Killua's Tsundere side comes out while silently thinking that it's backwards; he's the one who's glad to have met Gon, hiding his face in embarrassment.
* At the end of the Greed Island arc, Gon says the absolute first thing he's going to do when he sees his father for the first time is to introduce him to Killua as proof of their connection - a plan that causes Killua to blush and look away.
--> '''Gon:''' The first thing I'm gonna do when I meet Ging is to introduce him to Killua, my best friend in the world.
--> '''Killua:''' ''[blushing]'' Shut up, that's embarrassing!
* Any and all Gon/Killua subtext in Chimera Ant is dangerously close to crossing into text, especially on Killua's side:
** There are a lot of close-ups and inner monologues Togashi keeps giving us about Killua wanting to protect and be useful to Gon, almost to the levels of obsession. And when '''entire pages''' are dedicated to Killua's sad little face when Gon [[spoiler:tells him that 'he couldn't possibly understand what he's feeling' during the Neferpitou/Gon deadlock]], you know something's up.
** Especially notable during the time when Gon was depowered and they were near a village with a risk of being attacked by ants, where Killua thinks that if ants were to attack, first priority would be to protect Gon even if it meant letting everyone else die.
** Not to mention Killua stalking Gon and Palm on their date to make sure Gon wasn't attacked by any rogue ants (sure...), and Palm blaming Killua for 'getting in the way' when she splits up with him.
** During his fight with Rammot, Killua is so desperate to protect Gon that he fights off all the psychological urges to run away caused by Illumi's needle, and the viewer sees LovedOnesMontage of his memories with Gon. This allows Killua to break Illumi's hold onto him and find the needle preventing him from fighting back.
** Before confronting Pitou, Killua wanted to ask Gon "Which is it..?", but didn't since he's afraid of losing Gon. The way it's phrased before the reveal sounded like he can't spit out his feelings. Even the narrator says he would had receive his answer if he just asked and anyone with enough experience will arrive at the next step.
** In the middle of the Palace Invasion, Killua had a complete breakdown in the middle of a life-threatening fight still worrying about Gon's mental state. He's begging a transformed Palm to reassure Gon she's still the same as he believes she's the only one that can help Gon. After Palm recovers her emotions and rebels against Pouf, she reminds him that he is the one that Gon really needs the most.
---> '''Palm (to Killua)''': "If there's something I can do for Gon, I'd do it gladly. But don't forget...the one most important to Gon is you..."
** Since he knows that fighting Pitou alone is suicide, Killua says to Ikalgo, Palm, Meleoreon that he's willing to die with Gon if that happens, which they all immediately pick up on and accept. When Pitou is about to kill a despairing Gon, he quickly rushes to Peijin, begging him to hold on so he could die by his side.
** The stingers in the Chimera Ant Arc interestingly get more romantic sounding until the end of the arc, like the one where Gon says he wants to meet Killua again in his next life.
* The Election Arc is basically a big RescueArc about Killua doing his best to revive Gon from a FateWorseThanDeath:
** In Chapter 326, Killua finally opens up his fear if Gon only sees a teammate instead of a friend in a callback to his unanswered question. While he's still depressed that Gon pushed him away since the only thing he wants is for Gon to ask for his help, he still thinks that he will save Gon and make him apologize.
** While talking about Nanika's victims and how it chooses the people it kills, Hisoka also says that Gon is Killua's "most beloved" and the "spent most time with".
** In Chapter 331 Killua thinks "Just wait a little bit longer Gon!" showing that he's still going all out to save and find Gon.
* In some Hunter x Hunter R radio dramas, such as Sarracenia no Yoru and Hunter in Wonderland (both voiced by 1999 anime actors), Killua is pretty much the damsel in distress of the group. Getting cursed into a trump card, replacing Leorio after failing to recognize the real Leorio in order to free the latter from Spade Queen’s curse (Hunter in Wonderland); to getting mind raped and then finally tentacle raped (from what it sounds) by life-energy-eating-plant (Sarracenia no Yoru). Gon is never hesitant to risk his life to save Killua in these situations. His resolve in Hunter in Wonderland convinces all hunter exam's finalists--even Hanzo and Hisoka--to believe in him that he can free Killua from the curse, and thus get all of them out from the cursed “wonderland”.
* The whole Zoldyck Family arc can be interpreted as Gon wanting to free Killua from his toxic family.
* Drama musical (Nightmare of Zoldyeck) made Gon/Killua of this arc more shippable.
** After hearing Gon and the others laughing at him being called "monster" by Killua, Silva appears and challenges Gon to knock him down, while Silva himself promises he won't do any harm to Gon. If Gon fails, he must give up his intention to take Killua out of Zoldyeck's Manor. Gon, not amused by the idea of friend-being-tested again, hits Silva with all his might. Silva doesn't not budge a bit, but he appreciates Gon's effort. Silva then respectfully asks Gon and the others to take care of his son, announcingng his approval.
** Still in Nightmare of Zoldyeck, when Killua realizes his head is planted by Illumi's needle which can turn him to a killing machine at any time, Kurapika says that this situation is just like some story he has read before. A story about how a girl loves his boyfriend deeply, but after receiving a mysterious call, she ends up killing him unconsciously. Even Kurapika is Gon/Killua shipper.
* Madhouse themselves seem to ship the two, as they add additional scenes just to show more ShipTease between the two, such as the scene where Killua pushes Gon out of the way of Kite's bullets and Killua ends up straddling Gon in a protective fashion.
* And then there's the fourth ending, ''[[SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments Nagareboshi Kirari]]''. It focuses heavily on Gon and Killua set to an AwardBaitSong, with imagery that can be interpreted both platonically and romantically; for example, we have Gon along with flashes to Kite and Ging, while Killua is shown along with flashes to him and Gon in Whale Island and Gon crying; we also see Gon and Killua watching the sunrise together. And then there's [[http://willeke4439.livejournal.com/285880.html?thread=1670840 the lyrics]]. Verses such as "I think of you, when we're far apart/Alone, looking up to the sky beyond like this/believing that we can one day connect our hearts", and "Our meeting, crossing time, is like a dream/Feelings, so many that I can’t hide them, dance in the wind/If only I had a little bit more *courage" are hard not to interpret as being about, say, Killua feelings for Gon.[[note]]Not to mention that apparently, the artist who composed it wrote it after re-reading the manga.[[/note]]
* The "Hunterpedia" chibi segments:
** On the whiteboard, there is an Ai Ai Gasa with their names under it; this is the equivalent to the US carving your name and your significant other's name into a tree in Japan.
** Also in the "Hunterpedia" chibi segments, while talking about Baise and her Nen attack "Instant Lovers", Killua kisses Gon as a demonstration of the move, making Gon fall in love with him with hearts in his eyes and tries to kiss Killua.
** In the Greed Island Tutorial chibi segments, Gon seems to be jealous of Killua's crush on Gold Dust Girl, as Killua made him use a Transform on a card to make one and Gon's voice was clearly one of displeasure.
** Another one of those segments throws all subtlety that was still left out of the window:
--->[[AC:Killua]]: Today, we introduce the card Blackout Curtain. With this card, other players can't see what's inside your binder.
--->[[AC:Gon]]: ''(seductively, while blushing)'' [[DoubleEntendre You can see inside my binder whenever you want, Killua]].
--->[[AC:Killua]]: ''(also blushes)'' WHAT?!
* The Phantom Rogue movie is dripping with this. There's a scene of Killua watching Gon sleep, and Gon teasing him about it. Later, Killua's hostility towards Retz being buddy-buds with Gon. Killua becomes suicidal when he believes that he's failed Gon and doesn't deserve to be his friend.
* "The Last Mission" movie oozed Killua and Gon moments out the wazoo, from dramatically serious to their normal interactions to hilarious jabs at the fans who ships them with the scene of them in the "your face here" cutout.

[[/folder]]
[[folder: Kurapika/Leorio]]
* Kurapika and Leorio bicker like a married couple ever since they met and even talked to each other. It goes that far back. This is especially prominent in the 1999 anime.
* In an anime-only arc, they share the same room for at least an episode, and there's instant [[BelligerentSexualTension tension between the two]]. Earlier that episode, Leorio goes off to find Kurapika when he burns the Kurata ship and outright states that he was concerned for Kurapika. Later in the same arc, Leorio is supposedly lost at sea, and Kurapika is terribly shaken and tries to hold off the operation they were doing just to buy time for Leorio, and eventually Gon, to get back on the ship.
* Then there's the more [[AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther nicer moments]] where they agree on things, such as the nice phone call talk at the finale. Even more noticeably, they talk with each other more often than to the other two in the group.
* Forget subtext. The Radio Dramas have Leorio and Kurapika [[http://youtu.be/vxe1_WJGFnM hitting it in a restaurant]] and speaking in "moody" voices.
* When Leorio relents and tells Kurapika its okay to stick to his ideals rather than kill Majitani, Kurapika says his name affectionately.
* In the Nightmare of the Zaoldyecks musical, Leorio seems a little ''too'' eager to get naked in the hotsprings with Kurapika.
* The Last Mission:
** Kurapika [[spoiler: gets infected with On]] and Leorio spends the rest of the movie speaking encouragement into his ear while he's unconscious. When Kurapika wakes up he admits he could hear everything Leorio was saying and that he appreciated it, though he felt some of the lines were rather cheesy.
** And then Leorio comes to Kurapika's aid, which ends in Kurapika [[spoiler: [[TakeABullet taking a bullet]] for him.]]
* There are also some moments in the Phantom Rogue movie:
** Putting Kurapika in a situation where he has to be nursed back to health by Leorio for at least four days.
** Gon and Killua teasing Leorio about how much he likes Kurapika, with Leorio getting very embarrassed
** Said image of Pairo seems jealous of Leorio in turn, who goes out of his way to defend Kurapika while the Kurta is blind.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Hisoka/Chrollo]]
* Hisoka has had his eye on Chrollo for two years prior to the start of the series and is incredibly interested in him. He has dedicated years of his own towards his obsession with Chrollo and actually had to learn about the group, as well as how to join so he could infiltrate and get closer to Chrollo. After years of trying Hisoka hasn't given up on challenging Chrollo and still continues on.
* Hisoka claimed to lose interest in Chrollo after Kurapika sealed Chrollo's Nen use, saying how he "wasn't interested in broken toys" but shortly after spent a considerable amount of time and effort helping the group he betrayed getting Chrollo back to normal.
* Chrollo in turn for some reason ignores many of Hisoka's "faults" such as betraying the Troupe or behaving differently and more detached than how other members are. Feitan even asks why does [Chrollo] just lets Hisoka "do what he wants?"
* In addition to Feitan's comment, when Hisoka says he has to go out and meet someone, Chrollo just responds with "up to some mischief?" Like he knows what Hisoka does, but doesn't care.
* The amount of tension the two have when they interact with each other is thick, they are playful in how they speak and clever in their responses.
* Hisoka and Chrollo spend a large amount of time off-screen with each other, either Chrollo running from Hisoka or not, they remained together.
* In chapter 351 and several thereafter, Hisoka is in a deathmatch with Chrollo, perving over the whole situation and talking about how much the situation turns him on. Hisoka expresses how he wants their fight to be like a dance, and how their breath needed to match.
* Hisoka even does one of his most intense "schwing" moments mid-air and retains it while on the ground even as he's surrounded by Chrollo's living puppets.
* Hisoka also shows a rare intensely blood-lusted face from Chrollo's show of power and cunning.
* Oddly enough during the deathmatch with Hisoka, Chrollo offers to call off the match if Hisoka wants, but promises it his all if Hisoka decides to continue.
* There is also a lot of official art of them posing with each other, from games as well as a calendar.
[[/folder]]
[[folder: Hisoka/Illumi]]
* From the start of the series it is shown these two killers are allies, with Illumi noting that he “can gauge [Hisoka’s] tastes” despite not knowing each other for long.
* The 1999 anime shows them hanging out together during the Hunter exam. [[spoiler:Illumi and Hisoka even pass the time in the trick tower playing cards.]]
* Hisoka calls Illumi a “friend” as a loose definition of their relationship, despite Illumi’s belief - and insistence to Killua - that assassins don’t have friends. Illumi doesn’t correct him.
* Hisoka hires [[spoiler:Illumi to help him trick Chrollo. Illumi notes that he’s known Hisoka longer than he’s known Chrollo and helps deceive Chrollo who was recently his client, by shapeshifting to look like Hisoka.]]
** [[spoiler:When Hisoka tells him to leave, he sends Illumi a text with a heart.]]
* Fans speculate that since Illumi is shown wearing normal clothes as a teenager, it’s Hisoka’s influence that made Illumi into a [[{{FashionVictimVillain}} walking fashion disaster]].
* In the Election arc, [[spoiler:Hisoka teases that Illumi should be his manager, then he and Illumi go to a bar together where Illumi spills his heart out to Hisoka on his family issues.]]
* [[spoiler:Hisoka teases Illumi again later, saying that he doesn't want to invite other people along in their pursuit of Killua because he’s “shy” essentially telling Illumi he doesn’t want anyone to intrude on their working relationship.]]
** [[spoiler:Illumi replies that he doesn’t have any other allies and Hisoka is the only one.]]
* [[spoiler:When Hisoka realizes that Illumi is offering to die so that Killua can save Gon with Alluka’s wish, Hisoka decides he prefers to let Illumi live and enrage him by killing Killua and even let Gon die, despite the boys being his favourite unripe fruits.]]
* [[spoiler:During the Succession Contest arc, Hisoka is said to have hired Illumi to kill him. Illumi tells the Phantom Troupe that he [[https://ibb.co/wh79hmw signed a prenup/was given an engagement ring]] where if Hisoka dies, Illumi gets the money. It is unclear whether they are actually engaged or if it is just a [[OutOfCharacter joke]] on Illumi's part,]] but Togashi seems to be throwing a bone to the fans.
* Illumi considers their relationship to be “give and take” which seems like a euphemism for [[{{FriendsWithBenefits}} a casual sexual relationship]].
[[/folder]]
[[folder: Hisoka/Others]]
* Since it's easy to see Hisoka's bloodlust for perversion, and his SexIsViolence tendencies don't really help his case, nearly every scene with him is oozing with this:
** In the first arc, Hisoka told Leorio that he was "interested in him."
** In the Phantom Rogue movie, Hisoka sneaks into Kurapika's hospital room and looms over him, then creeps Leorio out by asserting that they (Leorio and Kurapika) are also his unripe fruit.
** There's also Hisoka's fixation with Gon, with all those {{Double Entendre}}s comparing Gon to an unripe apple and he's quite [[JailBaitWait excited to see Gon grow to his highest potential,]] all this with a perverted expression on his face. There's also the time he outright had an ImmodestOrgasm during their fight in Heaven's Arena.
** He's also quite interested in Killua's strength, though not as fixated on him as much as Gon.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Chrollo/Kurapika]]
* Kurapika and Chrollo actually have a surprisingly large fanbase. There are a surprisingly large number of fanfiction dedicated to the pair, with the most [[FandomSpecificPlot common plots]] comprising something of 'Chrollo capturing Kurapika and forcing him to join the Spiders to take Uvogin's place', or, more recently, the two unwillingly teaming up together on the Black Whale to help each other with their goals, from Kurapika helping to find Hisoka to Chrollo aiding in protective Woble and getting to Tsseridnich.
* They certainly have an obsessive aspect going on. Although, it definitely is more of one-sided hate from Kurapika towards an otherwise indifferent Chrollo.
* And of course, there's the famous scene where [[spoiler: Kurapika comes up with his plan, dresses as a female receptionist, captures Chrollo in his chains, and proceeds to punch the living daylights out of him.]]
* The two have also been given a number of parallels:
** Chrollo's coat has the upside-down Saint Peter's cross; Kurapika's Stealth Dolphin is later revealed to have the upside down Saint Peter's cross on it as well.
** Chrollo's main Nen ability is to steal other people's nen abilities; Kurapika's latest chain has the abilities to steal nen abilities.
** Both were elected as leaders by their team/colleagues.
** The Succession Contest arc is where both their emotional situations have switched from their previous meeting. In Yorknew City, Kurapika was distressed and overcome with vengeance and grief while Chrollo was calm and collected. On the Black Whale, Kurapika has come to be calm and collected, while this arc marks the first time we have seen Chrollo come close to being overcome with grief and despair.
* Despite being all for slaughtering Hisoka for killing two spiders, Chrollo shows no urge to go after Kurapika for doing the same.
[[/folder]]
[[folder: Other pairings]]
* There is also some Nobunaga/Gon (albeit less popular than Hisoka/Gon) as Nobunaga compared Gon to Uvogin and seemed truly anxious to convince Chrollo to allow him and Killua to join (despite none of the boys being interested), even leaning to Gon and saying they would be good friends while he was captured. And there are also fics and fanarts with the idea of Killua and Gon being forced to join the Spiders, speaking of the above.
* Silva and Chrollo:
** Though kind of one-sided admiration on Silva's part, who marvels at Chrollo's handiwork and proficiency at zetsu, calling it "beautiful." He is also impressed at how strong Chrollo has gotten during the Zoldyck v. Chrollo fight, compared to when he fought him 3 years prior.
** Despite having a member killed by Silva, Chrollo greets him politely with "long time no see." Though it is rare to see Chrollo mad at any rate, so it is just him being himself.
* There are also those two super-minor characters in the Hunters' Exam, who have hilarious amounts of HoYay in the 1999" anime-only test involving the boat.
* Shaiapouf and Meruem:
** Shaiapouf and the king have this, mostly from Shaiapouf's side. "So I can build a kingdom. The king's and my kingdom."
** As of Chapter 299, the Ho Yay between Shiapouf, Yupi, and the king has reached critical mass.
** Pouf is afraid Komugi might distract the King from his "true goal" and is therefore considering [[MurderTheHypotenuse killing her for "the King's sake".]]
* Nobunaga and Uvogin, so much that the former [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge really wanted]] to kill Kurapika for killing the latter. Even in the Phantom Rogue movie, he's still mourning for his death.
* Uvogin and Shalnark are quite close as well, as Uvo kissed Shalnark on the cheek as thanks for giving him information on Kurapika, which shocked Shalnark, and Shalnark held a LongingLook as he watched in concern as Uvogin left to find Kurapika.
* Phinks and Chrollo, though just a tease. Phinks hears a phone ring and is excited that it might be Chrollo. Feitan and Shalnark tease him about his excitement, saying how he's like "a girl with a crush." Phinks is embarrassed and responds by throwing rocks at them as they run away.
* Some between Pariston Hill and Ging Freecss. Apparently, Ging shares his son's curse of unwanted attention from murdersexuals. Ging calls their relationship “complicated.”
** In the manga,[[spoiler:Ging retired from the Zodiacs, sneaked into the ship to Dark Continent, used a fortune to bribe people into giving him the 2nd position, all just to face Pariston.]]
** Ging is the only person Pariston has ever [[https://ibb.co/W6T0N4N revealed]][[https://ibb.co/chZ4Nj1 his real personality]] to.
** The sexual tension in [[https://ibb.co/2d8Cq20 this scene]] is palpable, noted even by non-shippers.
* In the movie Phantom Rogue, Omokage refers to Pairo and Illumi with Kurapika and Gon's eyes as beautiful and basically says that Pairo's cuteness gives him a boner. Earlier, the normally stoic or angry Kurapika gives a warm, affectionate description of his best friend Pairo and clinging to an image of him lovingly.
* On a NoYay side, Illumi generally is possessive of Killua, calling him cute, and later uses a sexy voice while getting close enough to practically kiss him.
* There's also the moment when Shura, the last surviving descendant of Shadow, tries to convince Kurapika to join him as an [[DealWithTheDevil On user]] by whispering seductively in his ear. The way the shot is framed, there's a split second where he seems to go in for a kiss.
