With how dangerous the infected are, it would likely be very dangerous for someone, presumably a hospital worker or other good Samaritan, to spend that extra time locking the rooms of the patients who physically cannot flee, and then giving them the key to get out later. Even with the great possibility that many may not even be able to awaken and use them later. But someone still did. And those actions are what allowed at least Jim to live. |

Later on he decide to give Jim enough time to get away from Jones and Mitchell by distracting them so that he can save the girls which Jim did showing that Farrell has indeed died a hero’s death. |
