* In the movie, Clyde Livingston, the baseball player whose sneakers Hector had stolen and Stanley had found by accident, reveals that he had donated the shoes to help the children in need and he himself was actually an orphan as a kid, so he could relate to these children on how it feels to never really know who your parents are.
* Twitch, Zero's replacement at Camp Green Lake, was busted for hotwiring cars. When Stanley gets the idea to steal the water truck and use it to find Hector in the desert, [[DoWrongRight Twitch shouts at him to put the car in gear]] in the book and happily tells him in the film how to steal the truck.
** Twitch's introduction is this, as well, since the boys actually warm up to him quickly. He gets his nickname and becomes integrated quite well into D Tent, enough to be considered part of the group even though Zero is only gone about a week. And it's only day three when he gives Stanley the extra push he needs to steal the water truck to find Zero/Hector, ''and'' he's included in the ending party in the film despite being the newest of the boys.
* Stanley carrying Hector up the mountain, saving his life and then sings the "Pig Lullaby" to him. Doubles as a SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome, as Stanley also ends up breaking the family curse by doing this.
** Everything about Hector and Stanley's friendship really. They both grew up in devastating poverty and were ostracized as a result, so they're also each other's first friend too.
** In the movie, there is a shot of Madame Zeroni smiling, [[SoProudOfYou as if she's proud of Stanley for fulfilling Elya's debt.]]
* When Stanley finds the gold tube, he convinces X-Ray not to give it to Pendanski immediately. When X-Ray asks why, Stanley tells him to do it the following morning so he can get the whole day off. In the book, only X-Ray is present, but he's clearly impressed by Stanley's idea and follows his advice. In the film, the reaction is basically the same, but as the rest of Group D is present, he gets similar reactions from them too.
* "I can fix that."
** For context, Kate could never show outward affection towards Sam due to her being white and him being black, so she found reasons to bring him to the school house by asking him to do repairs on her schoolhouse. He'd always respond "I can fix that". Finally, when she's run out of reasons, she tells him her heart is breaking. He says "I can fix that", cue BigDamnKiss.
* At the end of the film, all the boys rushing out to greet Stanley and even Zero when they return.
* When he thinks he's dying on the mountain, Hector confesses to Stanley that he stole Clyde Livingston's shoes from the homeless shelter. He couldn't read, so he didn't realize they were up for auction and when he heard the cops searching for them, he tossed them away. Hector apologetically says that if he hadn't stolen the shoes, neither of them would be in Camp Green Lake. What is Stan's response? In the book, he thanks Hector for doing it because he wouldn't have met the other boy otherwise. In the film, he laughs and says that "it's destiny" and that he's glad Hector stole the shoes.
* When Stanley acquires his nickname of Caveman, and then when he's moved up one place in the water line. It shows how he's become a member of the group now, as opposed to simply "the new guy", and how the others are warming up to him.
** Stanley first hears the nickname "Caveman" when one of the bigger boys decides to give him trouble. This leads to the other boys saying "Don't mess with Caveman", which leads Stanley to think they're ''warning'' him. It's not until they directly ask him "Caveman, you coming?" that he realizes they're talking ''about'' him.
* YMMV on this one, but considering Pendanski calls Hector "Zero" instead of by his real name as he does with the other boys, even if he does it in KickTheDog moments, it's still nice when he finally does call him Hector.
* From the 2003 Film:
-->'''Mr. Pendanski:''' Nobody cares about him. Nobody cares about Hector Zeroni.\
'''Stanley:''' [[ShutUpHannibal I do.]]
* At the end of the book, Hector's mother sings this to him
-->"If only, if only, the moon speaks no reply;\
Reflecting the sun and all that's gone by\
[[ParentalLoveSong Be strong my weary wolf, turn around boldly\
Fly high, my baby bird\
My angel, my only]]."
* "I don't smell anything". Stanley III finally inventing something successfully after years of hard work and bad luck makes this phrase more powerful than it should be.
** According to the film, the main ingredients for his foot odor cure are peaches and onions, symbolizing the bond between Kate and Sam.
** The book mentions it, but it's easier seen in the film that Stanley III finally invents what later becomes known as Sploosh the same night his son carried Hector Zeroni up the mountain and sang the "Pig Song" to him. It truly was that moment between Stanley and Zero that things began to turn around for both families.
* Sarah refusing to leave Elya after finding out about his curse. One could interpret her choice as a big [[ScrewDestiny "screw you" to destiny itself]].
* When the Yelnats and Hector see the contents of the chest that belonged Stanley's great-grandfather and realize how valuable it is in the current time, Stanley says to his parents and grandfather, "It's only fair that half of whatever's in here goes to my best friend Hector Zeroni." Stanley's family readily agree to this, and after hearing what Hector's last name is, Grandpa realizes how their family's curse was broken, the family gets excited and Stanley II gives Hector a big BearHug.
** Also, Hector ends up using part of his share of the money to hire a team of private investigators to find his MissingMom, who he's happily reunited with at the end of the movie--and it also turns out that she had been looking for him as well.
*** The very end of the movie shows Stanley and Hector as next-door neighbors and are now financially well-off, and all the boys they had gone to the camp with are hanging out with them as well.
** Also at the end, Clyde Livingston realizes that he was wrong to believe that Stanley stole his shoes from a charity. As an apology, he endorses and films a commercial for the Yelnats' odor neutralizing Sploosh product and happily attends the viewing party with the Yelnats. It also turns out the product works on his feet, to his wife's delight!
* The fact that Elya Yelnats couldn't have cared less about Madame Zeroni's curse, as he didn't believe in it to begin with, but still wanted to carry her up the mountain anyway and was wracked with guilt when he realized he'd forgotten.
* Although in the book X-Ray is the only inmate indifferent to Stanley and Zero's return, in the movie he's just as overjoyed as everyone else after they come back and even gives Stanley some final emotional words before he leaves.
-->'''X-Ray:''' You be careful out there in the real world, all right? Everyone's not as friendly as us. Hold on for me.\
'''Stanley:''' Alright boss.
* The film implies that Sam has been haunting Green Lake ever since he was shot, and Kate became a bandit, but he's not resentful or sad. He's watching over the people who need him. He gives Kate a warning glance when Trout Walker and Linda Miller come to threaten her at gunpoint. Stanley sees him wandering as he's being driven to Camp Green Lake. His boat with Kate's jars of spiced peaches end up saving Hector's life when Hector runs into the desert, and his onion field saves the boys from starvation, and then the yellow-spotted lizards.
* Though her curse later plagues the family, does Madam Zeroni ever insult Elya over his feelings for Myra Menke? No, she merely advises him why she's not worth marrying, then offers her help.
