* How does Kafei leave Clock Town, if he's a child and has no dangerous weapon to show the guards? And while Link's is being worked on at the Mountain Smithy, the guards still let him come and go as if he still has one. Why is that?
** The guards have probably met Kafei before in adult form, and (if memory serves) you're still wearing the sheath.
** You're still wearing the sword belt. The sheath is absent.
** The guards recognized you as the kid they gave permission to leave the city? Link explains to them that he is quite capable of defending himself? I don't know.
** He's still got his big-ass metal shield that deflects most every attack.
** The remake has him apparently just explain he left it at the smithy and the guards are cool with it (when you talk to them, they'll just say "...you left it at the smithy?")
*** Their dialogue is slightly different in the original game, too (“Do you have a sword?” vs. “… A sword?”), seeming to suggest Link tells them in that version.
** Kafei was pretty sneaky. He practically disappeared after being turned into a child.
** You can use a glitch in the game to get past the guards as Deku Link (align yourself up with the wall, face away from the guard, press Z and walk backwards... you should push away the guard). Maybe Kafei got out the same way.
* On a related note, how do Kafei and Sakon reach the hideout without each of them having their own Hookshot and Garo Mask?
** Or a horse?
** Sakon might have stolen the appropriate stuff from some unfortunate people. Maybe. Besides, it's his hideout, so maybe he has the privilege of knowing some way there that we don't get to see. No idea for Kafei, though.
** Both probably hopped the fences and climbed the wall. Just because Link can't do it doesn't mean others can't.
** The manga states that Kafei seems to be strong for a kid... maybe he beat up one of the guards at the gates? (Sure, it's not canon, but the game never states otherwise.)
** Even in the original, Link explains that he left his sword at the smithy (or it was stolen, in both versions). Also, the guards likely know Kafei (he probably asked them not to say anything). Kafei was following Sakon, so however he gets there is how Kafei gets there.
** Kafei's father is the mayor and knows his secret. He probably ordered the guards to let a purple haired kid go through without asking questions.
** Someone or something in the game states that Kafei used to be a member of the Bombers, right? As long as he knows their passcode, he could've taken the tunnel from East Clock Town to the observatory and then hopped the fence outside to bypass the gate guards.

* How do Link and Epona get back to Hyrule after the game is over? Link came to Termina by falling into a huge pit -- even if he could climb back up, it's doubtful Epona would be able to.
** The whole opening forest part, including the fall, is still part of Hyrule -- note that it doesn't make much sense for it to be beneath Clock Town. Link doesn't actually get to Termina until he goes through the twisted corridor part. There's likely a different path to take to get back to Kokiri Forest/the Lost Woods that the game doesn't show you.

* What does the New Wave Bossa Nova do, exactly? It woke up a giant turtle, but Link already had the Sonata Of Awakening at that point. Does the effect of that song have any causal or thematic connection to the eggs or the dungeon?
** It's been a while since I did a straight run of the game, but wasn't it Lulu's voice that woke the turtle? And it was the Bossa Nova that shook her out of her funk and gave her her voice back, so... yeah.
** The description of the song says that it gives someone who lost their voice back to them.
** It's all but stated that Lulu and her family are the protectors of Great Bay Temple. It's therefore probable that the song and Lulu's voice are both some sort of key that's needed to awaken the Turtle and access the temple, and that the Sonata of Awakening is barred from doing the same just as any other method would be.

* Why doesn't Link use the Song of Healing to un-curse Kafei?
** It's different in that it's not something that technically needs "healing", per se. Being a spirit who can't pass on? He's unnaturally trapped; that needs healing. Being on the verge of death? He's injured; that needs healing. Being cursed with a half-undead form? He's been semi-zombified; that needs healing. But being de-aged? There's nothing that really needs healing there; in fact, since being de-aged would have increased his lifespan, such a "healing" would have actually caused him to die sooner. Now, what really bugs me is why the Song of Healing's effect on the dying Zora is to kill him.
** The Song of Healing does not provide physical healing. It heals the soul. This means that ghosts can be allowed to pass on peacefully, and people afflicted with curses can be purged of them. Kafei seems unable to be helped because his curse does not bring him the great anguish of being unnaturally shapeshifted (note that Link and gibdos-man being in such twisted forms was quite physically and mentally painful). Mikau, the Zora, was dying anyway, and nothing could save him. The Song simply meant that he could peacefully move on into the next life.

* The Goron named Link can't get into his reserved room because the Goron VerbalTic causes him to introduce himself as "Link-goro" when the reservation is just for "Link". But why wouldn't he have called himself "Link-goro" when he first made the reservation? I suppose he could have phrased it differently, as in "Link is my name-goro", but that still doesn't explain why he couldn't have just used that phrasing to identify himself at the inn. Aside, of course, from him simply holding an IdiotBall.
** He sent his reservation in the mail, making a verbal tic impossible.
** What's odd is that if you don't take the reservation, he doesn't state his name in a way his Verbal Tic gets in the way, yet does if you already took the reservation. What I find odd is why Anju doesn't question why there are two people with the same names, one of which made a reservation, but I can chalk that up to her being too polite and passive to confront you about stealing people's rooms.
** It was stated in the Bomber's Notebook that Anju frequently mixed up her guests' names.
** Besides, they aren't the same names, as far as she knows. Link and Link-goro sound similar, but are two different names, especially if the reservation has already been filled.
** For what it's worth, the remake changes it so that you have to be Goron Link to get the room. I could honestly see her giving the room to a Goron who has the same name as the Goron she's expecting.
** Related question, what kind of inn is this where Anju even considers it a reasonable possibility that a child made a reservation on his own? I mean, human Link doesn't look more than ten years old, yet Anju doesn't even blink when asking if you had a reservation? I know she's a bit scatterbrained, but she can't get many kids in there saying "Hey, I have a reservation."
*** Could have assumed his parents made the reservation for him and they were busy elsewhere doing prep for the festival. Let the kid check in while the parents say get the bags from the cart or go buy dinner for them later on.
*** Termina clearly has differing views on maturity and adulthood than our world does, as you might've noticed. The guards stop treating you like a child just because you have a sword, Madame Aroma hires Link as a pro based on how his face looks, and Cremia spells out that you can be considered an adult just by doing good deeds.
** You can't actually take the reservation for yourself until after the Postman delivers Kafei's letter. Perhaps Anju is distracted from the shock and isn't really thinking straight when Link claims the reservation.
*** Correction: The earliest you can take the reservation is at 1:50 P.M., ten minutes before the Postman shows up.
*** Though she could still have botched the reservation due to being distracted with worry about where Kafei has gone. Waiting until the Postman shows up just gives her more to occupy her mind with, on top of the trouble she already has remembering faces.

* During the Blast Mask sidequest, why is Sakon able to just run past the gate guard in the event that you don't stop him?
** Sakon paid him off? Sleeping at his post? Doesn't really give a damn?
** When you speak to the owner of the Bomb Shop about the theft, he reveals that North Clock Town has a reputation for being an unsafe area. Presumably, having a really disinterested or corrupt gate guard stationed there is part of why such a reputation exists.

* The bell in South Clock Town can be heard from as remote a place as the Great Bay Temple. Given how loud this must be, why is it that everyone in Clock Town still has functioning eardrums?
** GameplayAndStorySegregation. The bell being audible from the most distant places is for the player's benefit, since it's the simplest way of helping them keep track of time. When you're busy adventuring, you aren't going to think about checking the clock every few minutes. But it doesn't mean the bells are actually that loud.

* Why does Link have to repeat the same three days over and over? Couldn't he just go back even further and avoid getting jumped by Skull Kid in the first place? Or better yet, get jumped, then turn the tables on him and grab the mask?
** Aside from the "then there'd be no game" argument, Link didn't choose the exact point of the reset, he just played the Song Of Time and asked the Goddess of Time to save him from the falling moon. Maybe the Goddess decided that a GroundhogDayLoop was the only way for Link to not only stop the moon from falling, but to also solve all the other problems in Termina, most of which were caused by Skull Kid's pranks, which wouldn't be possible if Link just hopped up and grabbed the mask. Or alternatively, the Goddess is messing with him.
** Because Link wasn't in Termina prior to the first day. He keeps getting sent back to that period because it's the earliest point when he would be in the dimension and capable of helping. Yeah, more time would be very helpful, but Link had the bad luck of getting involved in the final stages of Majora's rampage and the goddess had to work with what she had.
** The first time you play the Song of Time at the top of the Clock Tower, you're treated to a flashback-like cutscene of the events leading up to Link being trapped in Termina. The way I saw it, it was the Goddess of Time choosing a place to send Link back to. Like "no, I can't send him there..." or "no, no, he doesn't need to talk to the Happy Mask Salesman twice", and so on. It's why the flashbacks abruptly ends to "Dawn of the First Day", 'cause she finally made up her mind. Not sure how that explains talking to the Happy Mask Salesman afterward, though... unless the Happy Mask Salesman truly believes that you can get a mask that fast...
** There's something a bit... off about the Happy Mask Salesman to begin with. It's been speculated more than once that he's more than what he seems, so perhaps he can see all possible timelines concurrently? Or, if we go with the idea that the many three-day loops all condense together once Majora's been truly defeated (thus allowing for everyone to be helped), then maybe he really does just believe Link's that fast. After all, he does comment that Link was able to make a lot of people happy and get his mask back. Or perhaps it's both.

* How is Link able to see anything while wearing Don Gero's Mask? The frog's hands seem to completely cover his eyes.
** Parascopes that allow you to see out the frog's eyes. How about the Couple's Mask, or Kamaro's Mask, or even the Blast Mask?
** AWizardDidIt Magic.
** Or maybe he just navigates by his ears. He's got pointy ears and he's a Hylian and a powerful hero to boot. I think he could work with a mask with such a crappy design.
** Ever consider that maybe there are small eyeholes that we can't see? Maybe they're on the frog mask's hands?
** Teeny-tiny eyeholes still means no peripheral vision.
** Which wouldn't matter considering you don't play the game from Link's exact perspective.

* What happens to Romani if she gets taken by the aliens? Does she just get mind-wiped, or is it something worse?
** Depending on how well you do at fending the aliens off, Romani can potentially be returned to the ranch within as little as 45 minutes of when she's taken away. The likeliest interpretation is that they realized they had taken her, wiped her memory so she would forget whatever she saw, and then dumped her off at the ranch within a very short time frame.

* One thing that seems odd is, Tatl had apparently been tagging along with the Skull Kid since she met him, yet whenever you come across someone who he's cursed or pranked in some way, like Kafei or the Deku Butler's son, she acts as though she doesn't recognize them when she logically would've been there as they were cursed.
** It could be that the Skull Kid snuck off to do some of that stuff.
** This makes sense, since Tael seems to understand a bit more about the situation with the four giants than Tatl does -- maybe she'd been getting more and more distant from the two of them as the damage the Skull Kid caused got greater and greater.
** Regarding the whole Kafei thing, think about it this way -- all Tatl would have seen had she been around the Skull Kid at the time would have been the Skull Kid turning him into a kid. It seems pretty plausible that none of them involved even knew the implications it would have on Kafei's marriage. They probably didn't know anything about the guy. Probably they just ran across a guy that seemed particularly prideful, figured it would be a hilarious way to mess with him, and then ran off without a second thought.
** Precisely this. While Tael is traveling with Skull Kid, she never sees the consequences of his actions, and Skull Kid, probably not the type to think about consequences even without the evil mask butting his judgement, would probably just wave away any concern or questions. Add to this the fact that she's probably used to helping him pull genuinely harmless pranks, and it's only since he got the mask that they've become cruel -- initially at least, she had no reason to suspect anything was wrong. It's not until she travels with Link that she sees that they're not just harmless pranks anymore, and realizes just how much the mask has changed him, which segues into her motivation to keep helping Link until the end of the game.
** Skull Kid sneaking off with Tael to do some of these things does make a hint of sense, too, since Tael is well-established as being the weaker-willed of the two siblings. Skull Kid probably wanted to bring him along instead of Tatl because he knew Tael would be more likely to go along with it. It's like inviting a friend to join you in some illegal activities; you're more likely to bring the one who you can bully into going along with it rather than the one who might call the police on you.
** The question is also assuming that Link and Tatl arrive in Clock Town in the exact amount of time it takes the player to arrive. Considering dimensional travel of some kind is involved, it's possible that Skull Kid got back to Clock Town much earlier than Link and Tatl did, which would give him time to cause all these problems while Tatl wasn't present.

* After the game is over, Link leaves Termina to go look for the friend he lost earlier. So if Link disappears from Termina, what will happen to the lives he masqueraded as throughout the game? Sure, Darmani has been known or guessed to be dead for some time, and the Deku Butler eventually finds the body of his son, but then there's Mikau -- all the Zoras, especially the Indigo-Gos, have no clue the real Mikau is dead. So in Mikau's case, will they ever find his shrine, and how would they react after Mikau mysteriously decides not to appear anymore?
** Zora Link is shown playing with the Indigo-Gos in the credits, adding to this confusion.
** Mikau's grave is right there on the beach, so the Zoras are bound to stumble across it eventually. As for the concert, Link was presumably filling in for Mikau, temporarily. He went to all that trouble of making sure the band was ready for the Carnival of Time concert; he probably figured it would be cruel to make it seem like Mikau had bailed on them at the last minute.
** As for their explanation of Mikau's disappearance, they could play it up like the Gorons did with Darmani, where they assume Zora Link was just some apparition of Mikau that came back from the grave to save his unborn children, restore his girlfriend's voice, and fulfill the band's hopes of performing at the carnival like they'd planned to.
** Mikau's grave doesn't say specifically when he died, either. The Zoras could be left thinking that it happened after they saw him performing at the carnival, possibly from prolonged injuries he suffered trying to get Lulu's eggs back, and that some good Samaritan saw fit to bury him anonymously. It's not that far off from what actually happened, just backdated a day or two.

* Why does Link need Kafei's Mask to ask about Kafei?
** Because his mouth can't do it for him.
** Link doesn't know what Kafei looks like (unless he talked to Anju on the 2nd day, but let's ignore that little detail), so he probably says something like, "He looks a little something like (pointing to mask) this." Plus, it would take too much effort to include any conversation options besides Yes/No.
** Speaking to Anju on Day 2 she asks Link if he had seen him, Followed by putting on a copy of his mask. It would seem that the Mask itself is a sort of portable Missing Poster in the form of Clock Town (If not Terminan) traditions.

* Does Zelda remember the (future) events from [=OoT=]?
** The implication appears to be that Zelda subconsciously recalls Link as a sense of deja vu or a passing dream, but does not consciously have any recollection of the events of Ocarina of Time.
** Child Link went to see Zelda after defeating Ganon and told her about what would happen. Her solution was to send Link away with the ocarina of time so that Ganondorf could never open to door to the sacred realm. So she doesn't remember the future events, but knows about them due to Link's warning. Presumably Link's memory of her in this game took place just as she sent him off.

* How is it that if you have any Rupees on hand and play the Song of Time, it disappears, but if you store it in the bank, it's still there? I suppose there's Gameplay and Story Segregation, but what does the bank guy do, does he place a time-proof stamp on the Rupees you give him? Moreover, how does he remember you?
** Pay attention when you first open the account: The bank balance isn't tracked at the bank, it's tracked by a tattoo he puts on Link, and the tattoo persists when Link is thrown back in time. So the teller sees someone with an official tattoo of the bank and assumes that Link is a legitimate customer, so he lets him take money out.
** In layman's terms, Link is committing bank fraud. (Albeit, unknowingly.)
** The game never says that Link's bank balance is what's stamped on him, just that the stamp is what the teller uses to identify him. The 3DS remake moves the bank from West Clock Town to South Clock Town and shows that the bank's vault is now built into the Clock Tower, possibly implying that Link's bank balance transcends each three-day cycle because the inside of the Clock Tower isn't affected by the in-game clock.

* Why does the Kokiri Sword look different than it did in Ocarina of Time?
** If memory serves, only the hilt has changed. So presumably, sometime in between [=OoT=] and MM, the old handle broke for some reason and Link opted to get it redone.
** Note, also, that Link is carrying a unique shield (the Hero's Shield) alongside it. Given that the standard shields used by Hylian knights are explicitly too large for a child to wield properly, it's not unreasonable to suggest that Hyrule's Royal Family had a shield specially made for Link as thanks for his service to them. It's also likely, then, that they took the opportunity to reforge his sword - one that, after sitting in a box for time untold before being used to slay a rogues gallery of evil beasts, was assuredly in need of a bit of TLC.

* Why is that room in the Stock Pot Inn called the Knife Chamber? Are they just that bad at marketing?
** Because it used to be a cafeteria. Talk to Anju when she's cooking for her grandmother and she mentions it.

* Who thought that the Blast Mask, a mask designed to explode while still on the wearer's face, was a good idea for a mask/utility? The thing can only be detonated whilst still on Link's face, costing him health without proper shield timing.
** Maybe it was made as a carnival side show attraction, kind of like sword swallowing or eating fire. If you know what you're doing, you're safe, but it's not something to try at home.
** When the old woman gives you the mask, she's standing in the part of Clock Town that houses a powerful being who can and is willing to instantly restore the vitality of anyone who visits her with no questions asked, even if they're on the brink of death. She even tells Link that he can use the mask to make his own fireworks, and while those can cause pretty serious injuries in our world, they're nothing the Great Fairy can't set right again.

* It's shown that Stock Pot Inn could really do with a good fixing up...so why doesn't Anju use the 100 rupees in the staff room to do just that? Surely it'd be enough to fix up the Knife Chamber and get an exterminator for the bugs in the kitchen?
** Because then the inn would be closed for renovations while Link is in Termina, and it and its residents would not be able to interact with him. Besides, just because they aren't shown to be renovating while Link is there doesn't mean they don't have any plans to. Between Anju's wedding, the upcoming carnival, and the moon falling down, they probably have enough to occupy their schedule for the time being.

* If the transformation masks carry the souls of dead people, who did Majora's Mask kill to make the Fierce Deity's Mask?
** According to Hyrule Historia, despite its supposedly dark powers, the Fierce Deity's Mask is said to contain the hopes and good wishes of all the people of Termina. It probably doesn't contain the actual spirit of anyone - it's just that Majora's Mask took all of the masks Link had, which are representative of those hopes and wishes due to all he did to collect them, and mashed all of those good thoughts and feelings together into one all-powerful mask to give to Link, so that they can "play" together.

* This is kind of a stupid question, but if Link plays the Song Of Double Time in front of people, what do they see during the time period that gets skipped? Do they just see Link stand still in front of them for 6+ hours? Does he vanish and reappear?
** Let's not forget that this is a Zelda game -- people standing not moving from one spot all day isn't exactly a rarity.

* I don't understand the mechanism behind the Stone Tower Temple. Link basically turns the whole universe (or at least the land of Termina) upside down to complete it. But there are two problems with this: 1) Even if the whole land was upside down, Link wouldn't notice thanks to gravity (think of the people living in the southern hemisphere and you'll see what I mean), and the sky would still be above his head, yet it moves where the ground is supposed to be. 2) Wouldn't everyone else in Termina either fall into the sky or live in an upside down house?
** You're looking at it the wrong way. Link isn't turning the whole universe upside down, he's just reversing gravity in that one, localized area.
** Then why is the sky below his feet?
** ...because he reversed gravity in that one, localized area. He didn't actually turn the temple upside-down, he flipped gravity so that the sky is below him and the Earth is above him.
** Because Link is upside-down, not the whole world.
** In-game, if you Invert the temple, go outside, play the Song of Soaring to go somewhere else, and come back to Stone Tower with the Song of Soaring, you appear at the Owl Statue and immediately fall into the sky, then appear at the entrance to the Inverted Temple. As the above said, it's only Stone Tower that flips. Even then, it doesn't really 'flip', it just reverses gravity.
** The reality-screw aspect of the Stone Tower Temple is kind of the whole shtick—so much of it doesn't make sense that you sort of get the idea it's not supposed to. It has elements of Eldritch Location at times, very much on purpose.

* Why doesn't Romani protect herself against Them? She's got tons of arrows, and the ghosts seem to go down in one hit.
** It's safe to assume that she tries but somehow fails to do so, allowing the aliens to abduct her. Maybe she's just very bad at shooting arrows.
** It takes time to prepare and shoot each arrow, no matter how good you are. If you're surrounded by a large enough number of opponents, at least one of them will get you while you're re-stringing an arrow. Probably what happened is that the aliens Zerg Rushed her in the barn, sending so many numbers in that Romani couldn't keep up with them all, and that's how they captured her.
** That's how it always seemed to happen in my game. I'd fail because a good 4-5 of them would make it into the barn, leaving Romani with maybe a few seconds left to spare.
** Because, no matter how good she might be with a bow and arrow, she is an inexperienced kid. Link, despite his apparent age of 10, is a battle-hardened soldier with a bodycount of Mooks ranging in the hundreds, if not thousands, by the time he gets asked to shoot at some things that are out to steal cattle and children.
** "Inexperienced kid"? Where are you getting that from? Romani's apparently been training year after year to prepare for the invasion, enough so that she knows they come annually, and she's apparently done a well-enough job of keeping them away to not arouse Cremia's suspicions by having the cows disappear without explanation. Romani may be a little bit of an oddball, but that's just part of her being a kid -- I think she still knows what she's doing, and that the aliens came with more reinforcements this year than Romani could handle on her own.
** Romani's putting herself at a disadvantage by going in the barn - if a ghost gets in, her escape route is blocked, and she needs to be careful not to hit the cows, and she's not a good shot if her practice balloon is anything to go by. It's quite realistic to think this is her first time doing anything about the ghosts. And yes, Cremia would notice the missing cows, but think of it from her perspective. What seems more likely, "My neighbors who constantly harass my cattle, disrupt my deliveries, and steal my horses are stealing my cows and my little sister has a very active imagination," or "There's an alien cattle raid at my ranch every year, and the jerks next door just happen to be the only people besides my little sister to know about it"?
** Another possibility is that regardless of how skilled she is, Romani may not be able to stop "Them". Her bow is a normal child-sized bow, not imbued with any sort of power, nor does she herself have any. It may be that Link can stop "Them" because he's A) using the Hero's Bow, which likely has some degree of magic woven through it, and/or B) a Hero chosen by the Goddesses, and one outside of Termina's timeline.

* Why does the Razor Sword revert back to the Kokiri Sword after saving, but the Gilded Sword is fine? Is the Gilded Sword just temporal proof?
** Presumably, it has something to do with the Gold Dust that gets inlaid into the Gilded Sword. The Razor Sword is just a reshaping of the Kokiri Sword that's guaranteed to be reverted in due time, whereas forging the Gilded Sword incorporates something from previous cycles to become a new blade entirely.
** Also, the swordsmith mentions in passing that a sword enhanced with gold dust is rumored to transcend time. Given the fact that Link keeps the Gilded Sword after using any of the time-travelling songs must mean the rumor is true.

* If arrows and consumables are back to 0 after saving, how does Link still have the elemental arrows? Are they also temporal proof?
** The Wind Waker shows this better than this game or Ocarina of Time did, but "obtaining" fire and ice arrows really just means that Link obtains the ability to shoot fire and ice arrows. He's able to still use them in future cycles because the ability to do so stays with him.

* Is anyone even aware of Link's transformations? You could transform into a Deku right in front of the guards and they'll let you into Deku Palace. Are they just okay with a Hylian that's able to transform into a Deku? For that matter, the guards in town act the same way, sort of. They're fine with Goron and Zora Link, ask if Hylian Link is okay to pass but sees his sword, but they're not okay with a Deku. You could be all of them right in front of the guard and he wouldn't recognize that you're all the same person. Seriously, how does this work?
** GameplayAndStorySegregation. Or it could just be that Termina is such a weird place that nobody is really surprised by anything, or people are so dumb that they really think you're someone else after you transform.
** I don't think you're far off on the 'they're so dumb' argument, as there are some Non Player Characters that deny the moon is falling when all they need to do is crane their neck back a few inches to see the obvious falling moon.
** Even if they did think something was fishy, I can't imagine, say, the Clock Town guards being capable of doing anything to stop him. You can't deny what looks like a sixty-year-old Goron the right to leave town under the claim that he's actually a ten-year old boy posing as someone else without coming off sounding insane. It's not like the transformation masks are especially common, it seems, so the guards and others probably just come up with the most logical explanation in their heads and go with it.
** The guards of Clock Town only check to see if Link has a weapon before they allow him to leave -- in most cases, this would be a sword. The Deku Butler's son clearly has no powers or abilities that would be strong enough to defend against enemies on his own, but even if the guards were aware that Link could transform into Darmani and Mikau, they'd probably just think, "Well, if he can do that, then he's definitely got two capable ways of defending himself, huh? Better just let him leave."
** The above suggestions are helped by the fact that Link is completely new to Termina and isn't acquainted with anyone there. To anyone who sees him transform, their thought process would be less, "Oh, my feathers, that totally normal little kid just transformed into a rock monster or a little plant creature!" and more, "Oh, hey, this new and weird person has these other new and weird abilities he can use sometimes... Huh, I guess that'll make for a good talking point later." It is strange that they don't show any reaction that we see in-game, but that's just due to ease of developing the game.
** With the power over time behind the nature of Link's heroics in Termina, maybe the transformation masks do a local memory rewrite. Upon placing a mask on and transforming, all those interacting with Link at the moment simply have their memories altered so as to have no knowledge of Link being in another form. He's simply always been a Goron, Deku, Zora, or Hylian (Terminan?) to whomever is concerned.
*** But that can't be the case, because there are certain points where characters do notice the transformation. After you've played the New Wave Bossa Nova for Lulu, taking off the Zora Mask will have her ask who you are and where Mikau went.

* How does the Couple's Mask stop the argument in the Mayor's office? It's like going up to some people arguing and holding up a wedding ring.
** The mask didn't magically stop the argument on its own. As the game shows, all the mask did was remind the arguing parties of their families, which helped Dotour put the argument into perspective. Do note that the resolution doesn't dissolve all tension -- Mutoh and Viscen both have their gripes about the mayor's decision. It's just that they aren't able to try to convince him against it any longer.

* Why does the Stone Mask work on some enemies, but not all?
** Recall how you could still see Shiro, the guard who gave you the Stone Mask, by looking through the Lens of Truth? In Ocarina of Time, a villager's dialogue about the lens says that it is possible to see the truth without it, if you trained your mind strenuously to be able to recognize the signs. Presumably, then, the enemies who see through the effects of the Stone Mask are simply trained to be more observant then ordinary people. (Not counting enemies who don't track Link by sight to begin with, like Like Likes and Gibdos and the like.)

* For that matter, why is it that only some people can recognize what masks you're wearing (the kid in front of the Bomber Hideout, the Trading Post, Curiosity Shop, just to name a few), but others can't?
** They just don't care?
** People wearing masks is pretty commonplace, especially around the Carnival of Time.
** What concerns me more is why the characters who fulfill vital roles in the game's world (the Bomber Guard and the shop owners) react to your mask and then boot you out of the conversation. These are the sorts of characters that shouldn't be noticing your mask- especially with how useful the Bunny Hood is.
** Flavor text.

* Why do the Gibdos even want the things they do in the Well? A dying wish?
** Sounds like you just answered your own question.
** I think what OP was asking is "Why do they want such mundane and random items such as bugs and milk and whatnot?"
** Probably that's just things they enjoyed in life and want them so they can feel enough happiness to ascend.

* Why can Link only use the Giant's Mask in Twinmold's room? And why can't he use the Great Fairy's Sword while he's a giant?
** The Giant's Mask has strong ties with the Stone Tower Temple, so it could be that its powers are only limited to that area.
** Majora's Mask 3D poses a possible answer to this -- the description for the mask says that you should try wearing it in a place where it looks like you could use it, which may imply that Link could wear it anywhere if he wanted to, but doing so would be disastrous if he used it in the wrong place... as in, many of the other populous places in Termina where he could inadvertently cause serious damage just by walking around. This explanation may have been present in the original game, as well, where the description just said "But can you use it anywhere?" Whether it meant either "There's only one place where you can use it" or merely "Would it be smart to use it anywhere?" is up for debate, which was probably why they reworded it. As for the query regarding the Great Fairy's Sword... it's possible that the mask doesn't enhance the size of all of Link's items, only things that he carries directly on the outside of his person. Hence why you can't use any other items beyond your sword and shield.
** This brings up another question too: if it's not the Stone Tower causing the mask to work, then why doesn't Link use the mask help to stop the moon, or in the fight against Skull Kid/Majora? Although I guess by that point you'd have already awakened the giants to hold up the moon for you.
*** Not to mention, A.) Brute Force wouldn't do anything against the Skull Kid; he can withstand attacks from every weapon in Link's inventory with nothing but a childish giggle. The reason the Oath to Order works is because it gives him a chance to fight the mask's control by reminding him of his friends, the Four Giants. B.) The Giants are implied to be somewhat ethereal in nature -- they fade in out of nowhere when summoned, their movements don't cause any damage to the Terminan landscape, and they appear to be holding back the moon at least partially through magic, rather than simple strength. Link putting on the Giant's Mask wouldn't grant any such advantage. All it would do is likely cause the clock tower to collapse beneath his weight.
** ;Another possibility is that the Giant's Mask has some kind of magical resonance within the Stone Tower, and specifically in the room where Twinmold waits. So wearing it anywhere else would be fruitless, as it isn't able to draw on whatever ambient power it needs to function.

* Why can't Fierce Deity Link use the Great Fairy's Sword alongside his own sword?
** Because you can't just wield any two swords together and expect to be able to use them both effectively. The Fierce Deity's sword is shown to be two-handed by default; he probably can't wield it properly using only one hand.
** Also, the Fierce Deity may not be able to do any differently. The Masks pass on the knowledge and skill of the one the mask represents (Thus why Deku/Zora/Goron Link can't use any of Link's normal equipment, because their original selves didn't have that knowledge in their lives.

* Are the bottles also temporal proof? Couldn't Link just win the bottle of Gold Dust (just as an example) over and over so he could carry more bottles with him when he saves?
** No, because once you obtain something that's normally temporal-proof, it ceases to be available via the same method on future iterations of the timeline. You gain a bottle of gold dust the first time; when you win on a different iteration, they won't have had a bottle to contain the gold dust, but they can still award you the gold dust. (This, of course, does not apply to Rupees; even if you took them from a chest, whoever fills the chests will still have had the same amount to put into them, so you can amass a fortune from the exact same source as long as you use the bank and the Song of Time.

* Once you learn Epona's Song from Romani, you can call her even in future cycles when the road to the ranch is still blocked off. How is she able to get to you in those instances?
** She can jump over that canyon in Gerudo Valley in [=OoT=], so maybe she can jump over the rock. Really, in general she can get to you wherever you are and no matter where you last left her, not only in this game but Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess also.
** In the 3DS version, playing the Song of Time doesn't send Epona back to the ranch. She stays wherever you last left her in the previous cycle.

* Since the temporal proof thing has been mentioned...what's the in-universe explanation for Link being able to keep his masks every time he goes back to the first day? AWizardDidIt The Goddess of Time makes it so?
** Basically. The Goddess of Time is allowing Link to take back things that he needs in order to save Termina. Given how easy it is to replenish arrows, rupees, etc, she allows him to keep things that would take an inordinate amount of time to regain, like the masks, the Gilded Sword, etc.
** Another theory is that the masks are temporal proof because they aren't just masks. Rather, they're physical incarnations of changed events in the timeline. So, for example, the Don Gero mask is more than a simple hood, but the tangible form of a changed event (in this case, the stuck Goron being saved).

* How do the Gibdos in the well know that the chemical formula for water is [=H2O=]? How would anyone know that in the Zelda universe?
** Termina is pretty advanced technologically. Maybe those Gibdos were scientists back when they were alive.
** Pamela's father's dialogue implies that scientists and ghost hunters would probably be the most inclined to go into the well, since it's rumored to be so haunted. Besides, the 3DS version alters the clues given by most of the Gibdos; the one asking for spring water no longer gives its chemical formula.

* If Mikau had enough energy to play a little ditty on his guitar before he died, why couldn't he live long enough to have Link go and buy him a potion to heal him?
** RuleOfDrama.
** Kotake says she doesn't know if her potions will work on non-humans. Link probably has this in mind, and the reason it works for him in any form could be either GameplayAndStorySegregation or the fact that he's still human under the mask and while it grants him all the physical abilities and suize of the alternate forms, his insides are mostly the same.
** I know it's a different game in a different universe set in the far-distant future, but Breath of the Wild has one line of dialogue stating that its elixirs don't work on Zoras.

* Why does Mikau stay dead? Darmani and the Deku Butler's kid were dead before the start of the three-day cycle, but Mikau died during the three-day cycle, potentially as late as the third day. Shouldn't the Song of Time reset him like it would reset anyone else?
** Maybe it's because of the connection between his death and the Zora Mask?
** If you go to Great Bay on the first day after getting the Zora Mask on a previous cycle, Mikau's grave is already there. It's just possible that Link didn't actually help Mikau back to land, but an apparition of some kind. There's also the fact that, when you play the Song of Healing for him, he disappears completely save for the mask. The other living person you play the song for doesn't die or disappear afterward, he recovers.
** ...Who was the living person you played the song for? Pamela's father? If so, he only recovers because he wasn't near death or anything; he just had an evil curse influencing his heart.

* If the Happy Mask Salesman knew the mask was an evil thing used for evil hexing rituals and stuff, why would he go after it and pull it out of whatever hellhole he found it in?
** The key words are "[he] knew the mask was an evil thing". He never says that he knew or thought the mask was evil before he found it. We don't even know when he found out about the hexing rituals, to be fair to him.

* Are the four Giants actual gods, or just guardians of Termina? We know they watch over Termina and protect it from threats, but there's never anything to suggest they're anything more than regular residents of Termina who decided that they wanted to watch over the land.
** The fact that they're so different from Termina's regular residents and have some metaphysical capabilities certainly implies they're more than just normal beings. And Tatl does surmise that they're "protective gods" after being told by the Snowhead Giant that they're "guardians". We don't have any reason why we shouldn't take her word for it.

* Why can't Link kill the Gerudo pirates? They stole Zora babies and nearly kill Mikau, and they're not brainwashed like they were in Ocarina of Time.
** Technically speaking, we don't know that they aren't brainwashed. Link overhears their leader mention that she's been in talks with the Skull Kid, so maybe he's remembering how the Gerudo were being manipulated by evil in his last adventure and assumes that the same is true for the ones he's encountering now. Alternatively, he doesn't want to take it upon himself to administer justice upon them since he's just a ten-year-old kid. Someone at that age doesn't just decide to kill someone out of the blue like that, let alone an entire tribe.

* At the beginning of the game, after the fairies spook Epona to knock Link out cold, Skull Kid shows up and takes the mask off, presumably to look at the wreckage he caused. But at the end, it's revealed that the mask itself is controlling him, so how come taking it off didn't break the spell or anything?
** It's a magical mask, remember. It probably just needs to be worn once to brainwash the wearer and control him as it pleases, and in fact, when you confront the Skull Kid after gathering the giants, the mask stops controlling him of its own accord.

* Why do the Gerudo Pirates act so concerned about the Zora Eggs they lost being eaten by sea snakes when they themselves left the four they still have in aquarium tanks with giant clams and Skullfish? Did they somehow train the monsters not to eat the eggs?
** That, or giant clams and Skullfish just don't eat Zora eggs. Not everything is an omnivore.

* This may sound like a stupid question, but what color is Darmani supposed to be? He appears gray when you see him as a ghost, in his official artwork, and as a recolor for Darunia in Hyrule Warriors, yet both Link as a Goron and the statue that forms from the Elegy of Emptiness are the same yellowish-orange-ish color as most Gorons.
** The Darmani we interact with and see in the official artwork is a ghost, so of course he's grey. Darunia gets the grey color in Hyrule Warriors because everyone remembers Darmani as grey and without the new color, the costume would just be a scar on Darunia's belly. Presumably, Darmani had the normal Goron color when he was alive, which is reflected in his Elegy statue and Link's transformation.
*** Not trying to disagree with you, but would him being a ghost really affect his color? When Mikau appears as a ghost later, he looks perfectly normal, apart from being transparent. Were they just different kinds of ghosts, or do ghosts just lose their color the longer they remain as ghosts or something?
** The grey color could possibly be frostbite.
** The fact that the other Gorons all immediately mistake the normal-colored Goron Link for Darmani pretty much confirms that's what color he must've been. Surely, at least a few of them would've commented on such a drastic change in skin tone.

* Why does Cremia leave her little sister alone to look after cows while she makes a delivery? Even if they're some type of special, ultra-rare cows, what does she expect a little kid like Romani to do if someone like the Gorman brothers come to the ranch to try and steal them? Keep in mind, this is the same person who berates Romani for making up imaginary stories about cattle-stealing aliens coming to their ranch every year and trying to invade the barn at night.
** Maybe she suspects the Gorman Brothers will attack her carriage (which eventually happens), and deems it safer for Romani to stay home than tag along with her and risk getting injured or worse.
*** Cremia doesn't actually expect Romani to do anything of value while she's gone; she only TELLS her that's why she can't come because she doesn't want Romani to argue over something that could potentially be a dangerous situation and she knows that Romani already takes her "duty" of "protecting" the ranch very seriously and therefore knows that this is the best way to convince her to stay home. The dialogue within the scene seems to imply that Cremia is already worried that the Gorman brothers will try to cause trouble for her during the delivery. They're neighbors, after all, so they'd surely have a good idea of when she makes her trips into town and it's mentioned elsewhere in the game that the brothers have done this kind of thing before.

* Why does Link need to wait until the Night of the Final Day before he can call the Four Giants? Couldn't they just come to stop the moon earlier?
** Probably because it's just too high up for the Four Giants to reach until the Night of the Final Day anyway. No point in summoning them early just to have them stand around waiting...
** The skull kid resides at the top of the Clock Tower, which Link isn't able to reach until Midnight of the Final Day.
** In the story she reads about the Four Giants, Anju's grandmother does clarify that they can only be called on from one certain place, and that's atop the Clock Tower. That's why the song doesn't work if you play it anywhere else.

* So just how the heck does the Skull Kid play Link's ocarina at the beginning of the game through his mask?
** The same way Link does through the Couple's Mask, I'd assume.

* How is it possible that Zelda and the people of Termina know about the Goddess of Time, if they're characters who live in parallel dimensions with different gods?
** Time exists in both dimensions, so I assume the Goddess of Time is some sort of transcendent entity unlike other gods.

* What befell the Deku Butler's son? It's commonly accepted by most everyone that the twisted tree in the passage connecting Hyrule and Termina is his remains, and that his spirit is sealed inside the Deku Mask, but do they ever explain how he ended up down there or how he died? He seems to be more on the Hyrule-side of the Catacombs as opposed to the ones in Termina, and they don't seem to be near or connected to the Deku Palace, do they? What could he have been doing down there?
** He was almost certainly killed by the Skull Kid during the Deku transformation sequence at the beginning. Maybe he was just wandering around Termina and got lost down there, then the Skull Kid saw him and decided to suck his soul out.
** Given that both Darmani and Mikau were endeavoring to remedy the troubles plaguing their peoples when they met their fates, it's perhaps fair to assume that the Deku Butler's son was doing much the same before Link's arrival in Termina. However, it seems like the young Scrub elected to confront the source of the problems directly, and pursued the Skull Kid. While Deku youth are by no means mighty, it's demonstrated through the race with the Deku Butler that his son was definitely quick, and would have had no trouble catching up to the villain. Brave though he may have been, he could not have possibly defeated the Skull Kid, and we see the unfortunate results of their confrontation shortly after the game begins.

* Why can't Goron Link survive in deep water when Twilight Princess shows that Gorons seem able to survive quite well underwater, with one of them claiming he feels no need to breathe when submerged and another even enjoying the time he spends in Zora's Domain? Aside from the fact that this would eliminate the need for a Zora Mask in the game, there doesn't seem to be much of a reason why Link is instantly incapacitated whenever he enters water as a Goron.
** They're Gorons from a different dimension; nothing prevents them from having a different weakness, after all.
** Perhaps it's less a question of "survival" so much as that Goron Link would be stuck. They sink, they can't really do much to get out of that predicament, so the cosmic equivalent of Mario Kart's Lakitu grabs you and drops you back to shore.

* Who is the father of Lulu's eggs? Mikau doesn't state that he's the father, so who would Lulu want to sleep with if she wanted eggs?
** I think it's pretty much implied the father is Mikau.
** It's also speculated the eggs were magically conceived to teach the New Wave Bossa Nova to Link so that he could fulfill his destiny.
** Considering Mikau is stated multiple times to be Lulu's boyfriend, it stands to reason that the eggs are his. Otherwise, his reaction when she told him they'd been stolen would've been something like "So you've been cheating on me, huh?" and not "Don't worry, I'll get the eggs back!" She hesitated to tell him at first because she was worried he'd go after them, and he wouldn't have done that if he thought they weren't his.
** On the other hand, it being a MysticalPregnancy could also explain why Lulu was so reluctant to tell Mikau. She doesn't know where the eggs came from because she hasn't had relations with Mikau recently, and he would know that. So if he were to find out that she mysteriously laid these eggs, he might jump to the conclusion that she was cheating on him.

* Considering the position of the moon in the sky, shouldn't it cause a solar eclipse every day around 12:00, or at least cast a huge shadow?
** It wouldn't be quite large enough to cause a total eclipse, but it would by all means generate a pretty sizable shadow over everything. Then again, the game doesn't generate shadows even for normal background scenery -- the kind of technology necessary for that wouldn't be possible until the time of the Wii U.

* How come both the Gorons and the Zoras mistake Link for Darmani and Mikau respectively when he's wearing their masks, but the Dekus don't mistake him for the Deku Butler's son? Even the butler just points out a slight resemblance, implying he does see Link as a distinct Deku and not his own son.
** In impersonating Darmani and Mikau, Link has the benefit of foreknowledge of who he's impersonating, since he gets to meet them before assuming their forms. The game never spells out that the Deku Mask contains the soul of the butler's son, so Link is essentially impersonating him without realizing it, which means he doesn't know to act any differently than normal, which means people aren't as likely to make the connection. It helps (or doesn't help) that the butler and his son would only be well-known, at most, among the residents of the Deku Palace. Darmani was a famed Goron hero, and yet even he seems to go unrecognized by the Goron inside the Bomb Shop.

* So does Lulu know the Great Turtle? When you first awaken him, he addresses her as though she's supposed to know who he is and has met him before, but Lulu, even though her voice has returned, just stares at him without saying a word, causing the turtle to remark that she's confused and there isn't time to explain. Lulu doesn't even look that surprised when she sees him, either... She just kind of looks at him. Or is it possible that he actually mistook Lulu for her mother, who was presumably the previous guardian of Great Bay Temple and also shared the same name?
** The turtle thinks she's her mother, also named Lulu. Her mother used to sing the New Wave Bossa Nova, which the current Lulu forgot until just now.

* Wouldn't Skull Kid's reputation be more than a little tarnished by the game's end, to the point where he probably wouldn't even be able to attend the carnival without getting mobbed? He traveled through Termina cursing people and causing widespread mayhem and chaos, and Link and the Happy Mask Salesman are the only two credible people there who know that it was really because of the mask.
** People in Termina know about the magical powers of masks. It's not -- if you'll pardon the pun -- a Masquerade in which masks have this magical power that no one knows about. If Link, whom everyone around knows and trusts, tells people that a super-evil, powerful mask made Skull Kid act the way he did, they'll probably believe him, although they might be wary around Skull Kid for a while, and I wouldn't blame them.

* It's stated that most of Clock Town's inhabitants have already fled for fear of the moon... my question is, where to? Considering none of the four cardinal directions leads to a safe place, it sounds kinda odd when you think about it.
** There are probably ways for people to travel to places beyond the southern swamp, over the northern mountains, across the western ocean, and past the eastern canyons, presumably the same way they all reached Clock Town to begin with. Either that, or there are hidden caves throughout Termina that they've managed to find and take shelter in. Also, the Gorman Troupe mention taking refuge at the Gorman Track and the Stock Pot Inn employees can be seen at Romani Ranch.
** Additionally, no one (aside from Cremia) really knows that nowhere in the four cardinal directions is safe. They're all just trying to get away from Clock Town without realizing the collision would lead to a shockwave capable of wiping out everything around it for several miles.
*** It's probably less that and more the fact everyone is in denial and trying to somehow anyway they possibly can, stave off a crushing fiery death.
** During the cold war kids were taught to hide under their desks and protect their heads in the event of a bombing. There was very little chance of surviving a direct bombing, but the drills were meant to increase chances of survival as much as possible. If the moon is going to crash into the earth, it would probably increase chances of survival at least a little to be hiding underground a couple miles away than to be standing directly under it.

* How long have the ghosts been holding their annual visit to Romani Ranch? Romani speaks of them as though she's familiar with their behavior, knowing what time they come, that they come from behind the barn, and most importantly what they're all after, but the fact that she does nothing when they come this time and leaves everything up to Link would imply that she's probably not very good at it. If the ghosts have abducted the cows before, though, which would seem to be the case given what we're shown, shouldn't that have tipped Cremia off that her sister was telling the truth?
** Cremia was probably too busy worrying about the results of said visit (disappearance of her sister and her cows) to get tipped off. When your little sister and farm animals get abducted by aliens you initially didn't believe existed, your first reaction would most likely be "Oh, oh god...NO..." rather than "Oh, she was telling the truth! Silly me!"
** Worth mentioning that the ghosts aren't the only rustlers on Milk Road. Cremia mentions that her cows often seem frazzled and that she finds a lot of broken bottles around the ranch, and the Gorman Bros. outright tell you to steal one of their horses if you try to ride at their track without Epona. It's likely that, while Romani knows about Them, Cremia thought it was another Gorman Bros. raid, until her sister fell out of the sky and turned into a zombie.
** Romani probably witnessed (or perhaps accompanied) her father defending the ranch from Them the previous year. He was probably fairly young and died unexpectedly, before he had a chance to tell Cremia about Them.

* Why doesn't Cremia ask the carpenter standing near the entrance to Romani Ranch for assistance in getting past the fence blocking Milk Road? With that large axe of his, it seems like smashing the thing to bits would be faster and safer than the alternative of having to circle around through the Gorman Track.
** Because the fence is not hers and destroying someone else's property isn't a nice thing to do, probably.
*** Not only that, but the Gorman brothers might've capitalized on the damaged fence to seek some recuperation from the ranch. At least by cutting through the Gorman Track, there's a chance for Cremia's assets to come out unscathed.
** She didn't have time to wait. The Milk Bar was expecting the delivery that evening. So she chose to risk riding through Gorman territory.
** Also, she may have felt much more confident with Link riding shotgun. He clearly carries himself with the bearing of someone capable, has demonstrated a marked proficiency with the bow, and generally seems like he can handle a scrap. So she opts for the quicker, but riskier option since he's with her to deter trouble.

* A minor one, but still something I thought about; Anju and Kafei both live with their families, there don't appear to be any houses in the town at all, and everybody whose living quarters have been shown live in their place of work. So, where were they going to live after the wedding? They couldn't live with their parents. Especially considering Anju shares a room with her mom and Kafei's room is only seperated by a curtain.
** That's probably what the 100 Rupees in the inn's staff room are being saved up for. Dialogue from Anju also implies that the inn is only booked solid during the Carnival of Time. After it's over, she and Kafei can probably afford to room together in the Knife Chamber or the troupe's room until they get set up somewhere else.

* Why does the Curiosity Shop's owner refuse to buy the Deku Princess and Seahorse, neither of which are required to progress in the story, yet willingly purchases the plot-important Zora Eggs for 20 Rupees each?
** Maybe he just doesn't have it in him to buy something that could talk back to him?
** Alternatively, these are sentient beings that could identify him and his illegal dealings if he agreed to buy them. If he recognises the Deku princess he likely understands how much trouble he'd bring down on himself from the king for trafficking his daughter.
** It might have to do with the uses he could derive from having them. It was once suggested that Zora eggs could be considered some sort of delicacy, akin to caviar, in which case he wouldn't even need to keep them alive in order to make a profit. While he could make some money by trying to sell the live seahorse to someone, as the fisherman had planned on doing, there's no indication he wants to bring his business into the pet trade, even an exotic pet trade, by doing that. And not only does the Deku Princess not have a strong chance of interesting any potential buyers, but trying to put her up for sale risks bringing attention from the authorities that the shop's owner would rather avoid.

* There are several Gorons at the racetrack after Link opens up the entrance, even though you never see them come in...Is there some other entrance that they came through, or have they all been trapped in there all winter?
** It seems unlikely that they got stuck there. If you leave Snowhead Temple temporarily after getting the fire arrows, you can melt the ice blocking the path to the Biggoron selling Powder Kegs and take the test early. Then, if for some reason you decide to enter the racetrack before completing the temple, it is completely empty. So unless the track area expands offscreen, there probably weren't any Gorons in there. There's most likely another entrance that the game doesn't show.

* When using the Blast Mask, you can raise your shield to prevent the damage. That's right, raising your shield somehow prevents damage from your face exploding.
** Though it's also possible that the mask doesn't "technically" blow up, and instead just creates an explosion several inches away from your face.
** The mask itself may implement some sort of protection to shield Link's face, while still leaving the rest of his body vulnerable. Or, the explosives used to make the mask are very weak ones - they can still damage Link, but it's very minor (comparatively speaking), and the kind of injuries the game doesn't go into detail on anyway.

* If the "aliens" come every year to steal Romani Ranch's cattle, how come Cremia doesn't notice it? According to Romani, they come every year, without fail, two nights before the Carnival... and yet Cremia is shocked if/when she finds the cows gone on the Second Day, as if it's never happened before. Even if she doesn't believe in aliens/ghosts, she should have taken precautions against cattle rustlers or something.
** It might be that while they come each year, they never succeed for one reason or another. Maybe Link isn't the first guy she's hired to drive them off.
** Or they wise up, and come in steadily bigger numbers. Last year, Romani was able to fend them off herself, but only just...
** Maybe it's not simply that the cows are gone that surprises Cremia; she may have put preventative measures around the farm to stop them from going "missing" or being stolen, only for them to still be taken away. Hence the shock.

* One of the Happy Mask Saleman's wares is Mario's face. Yeah. Think about that.
** You also receive masks of a Great Fairy, a frog, a cow, a rabbit, and a mythical Keaton. Not every mask has a spirit or soul sealed inside it. It's only the transformation masks that fall under that criteria.

* "To die without leaving a corpse... that is the way of the Garo." Sounds cool, but... everything that ever dies just explodes or fades into nothingness, leaving a mask or, more commonly, Rupees or other items. Garo are pretty much only unique in that most of them don't fight you unless you summon them, they give you hints, and they point out that they don't leave a corpse.
** Only enemies are shown spontaneously combusting or fading into nothingness, not ordinary people. The Garo are apparently spies of an enemy nation, meaning they are (or were) presumably normal people, who would presumably leave a corpse if they were to pass away normally.

* When the Gerudo pirates found that Mikau had infiltrated their fortress, they beat him within an inch of his life and left him drifting off the shore of Great Bay Coast, before he had even been able to get any of the eggs back from them. If the Gerudo pirates find Link snooping around the fortress, even if he's already obtained all four eggs, they just toss him directly over the nearest wall, sometimes resulting in him still being inside the fortress afterwards! They don't even bother taking any of the eggs back... what gives?
** AntiFrustrationFeatures. Sure, we see them toss him over the wall, but you can just say that they actually threw him out all the way and he returned to right outside the inner wall so that you don't have to run through the boats again. Or, if you really want an in-universe explanation, then you can say that the boat guards and the keep guards are segregated groups (like the Army and the Navy) with a bit of InterserviceRivalry. The keep guards toss him into the boat guard territory, and he's not their problem any more. Not their fault if the boat guards are too incompetent to grab him and toss him out again.
** Maybe Link, as a little kid, seems less threatening than a full-grown Zora male.
** Link appears to surrender when spotted by the guards, so they probably see no need to hurt him and just toss him out instead. Mikau probably tried to fight the pirates off and got beaten half to death for his trouble.

* So if the Deku, Goron, and Zora Masks contain the spirits of the Deku Butler's Son, Darmani, and Mikau, and Link keeps these three masks with him throughout his entire adventure and uses them to change form... does that mean that neither of these three characters will ever be able to rest in peace? Would Link saving Termina somehow allow the spirits within the masks to be released and finally pass on, or does Link live the rest of his life burdened with the restless souls of three dead people wherever he goes?
** It's implied that playing the Song of Healing is what allows them to pass on. The masks are just pieces of their power left behind as a gift. The spirits are not trapped within them any more.
** But the descriptions for the masks (the Goron and Zora ones, anyway) say that they contain the spirits of a proud Goron hero and legendary guitarist.
** Maybe there's a difference between spirit and soul. The purest, most essential self of whoever died has indeed moved on, but in their masks they left behind their energy, skill, and strength.
** The 3DS remake adds a line that partially rectifies this issue. After you've defeated Gyorg, the turtle who took you to Great Bay Temple says that the seas returning to normal will allow Mikau's spirit to rest in peace, whilst still allowing you to assume his form afterward. We can assume that this also is true for Darmani once the winter of Snowhead ends. (Though it's open to debate whether it would be the case for the Deku Butler's son -- we still don't know what he did to end up in those catacombs or how invested he was in the plight of Woodfall.)

* If that twisted tree in the tunnels is the dead form of a Deku Scrub, then why is it sprouting fresh, green leaves?
** The leaves were a part of his body when he was alive. Alternatively, Skull Kid simply sapped the Deku of his spirit, his spirit being his sentience as a living, thinking being, but he was still alive as a plant. Something like the dementor's kiss, I suppose. It still lives you alive, but you're all but dead on the inside.)

* So, it's the last six hours, the guards are begging you to flee for shelter, the banker is panicking that you're still here, the swordsman is cowardly hiding and pleading to not die... and the Bombers are still playing around town, telling you about their notebook and stuff. Now, I know that if you're a child, you can't leave Clock Town without an adult (unless you have a sword to kill enemies), but I really do not understand why these kids haven't left with their parents, let alone during the end of the world. In other words, my question is: Where are the Bombers' parents, and if they're even alive, why don't they ever leave town with their kids?
** On the Final Night in the 3DS version, the gate guards spell out to you that the only people still in town are either still in denial or too hopeless to see the use in fleeing. The parents of the Bombers are one of the two.

* Why don't characters like Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, Nabooru, Impa, etc. have counterparts in Termina? I'm not expecting everyone to have one, but there strangely seems to be a great many who don't. (Thinking back on this, it's possible Link's counterpart is supposed to be the Skull Kid, but this still leaves up for debate the issue of the others.)
*** In terms of Gerudo characters, I'm pretty sure the leader of the Gerudo Pirates is meant to be a counterpart to Nabooru. As for there being no counterpart to Ganondorf, that's just because the Gerudo race only consists of one Gerudo male approximately each 100 years. They may have possibly thrown in a Ganondorf lookalike who isn't Gerudo but I guess like the Zoras and the Gorons they just decided to stick by race for the counterparts.
*** Technically, the leader of the Gerudo Pirates, named Aveil, is identical to the second-in-command of their fortress in Ocarina of Time, who gave Link the Gerudo's Membership Token, so I think that's implied to be her counterpart, rather then Nabooru. (I've also theorized that Ganondorf's counterpart might actually be Romani and Cremia's deceased father, but that's based only on very little evidence.)
** Some Terminians may not actually look anything like their Hyrulean counterparts. To give an example, there isn't a single character who looks anything like Saria, but you can make a very solid case for the Deku Princess being her counterpart - both are female forest-dwellers of some status who, when a major catastrophe befalls the forest, charge off to the local temple to handle the situation, where they are promptly imprisoned. Furthermore, a local loud-mouthed bully who falsely accuses people of major crimes based on circumstantial evidence expresses deep concern for both girls, and both girls are in turn frequently irritated by their respective admirer's constant BS.
** Skull Kid can't be Link's counterpart. He existed since way back when, as stated on Anju's Grandma's story. Also you get to see him in Ocarina of Time. Link's counterpart may be Kafei, for the lack of a better candidate. As for the others: Zelda is Hylia's reincarnation, so you can't have two reincarnations. Ganondorf is Demise's curse taken form; the same rules that Zelda follow apply to him. We don't have any Sheikah in Majora's Mask, so it doesn't make sense to have a counterpart for Impa. As for Nabooru, probably the developers didn't find it important to put a counterpart for her (especially because there aren't heroic or decent Gerudo in Termina). Lastly, the Kokiri as a whole is absent from the Child Timeline.

* I know this would've made for a DownerEnding, but why didn't the mask attempt to possess Link during his adventure? It saw how powerful Link was becoming, the progress Link was making. Wouldn't it have been a smart move on its part to dispose of Skull Lid and attempt to possess Link for his power?
** There are a couple explanations for this...One is that Majora's Mask seems to be subject to the same rules of time travel as most other people in Termina -- save Link, Tatl, Kaepora Gaebora, the monkey in the swamp (somehow), and the Goron Elder (also somehow), no one is aware of or remembers the events of previous time loops. The span of the current three days are the only three days in the continuity that they're aware of, and judging by its dialogue being the same every time you confront it, I would assume the mask itself is not exempt from this. In addition, the mask doesn't seem able to detach from Skull Kid and move about through its own power until the eve of the New Day, and even then, it's not like it would be able to reattach itself to Link's face and possess him without Link doing anything about it.
** And a third, more deeper and psychological reason, may be this... As mentioned in the folder above, Link and the Skull Kid are obviously meant to be foils of each other, with both of them being lonely, wandering children, ostracized by others -- Link by the Kokiri and Skull Kid (in his mind) by the Four Giants -- and with only the company of a fairy for companionship. The difference lies in that Skull Kid played tricks and was mean to people due to being so sad and bitter, which made him an easy pawn for the power inside Majora's Mask. However, Link does selfless things with his power, travelling and helping people wherever he can, people he's never even known before -- despite being such a lonely young boy, he's still too strong, pure-hearted, and kind to be swayed by the mask's evil powers.
** Original OP here: True, true. I also just realized that if the mask tried, Link would've fought using everything he had to resist the evil power and no doubt would've won. The mask may have sensed it and thought, 'Eh, not worth it.'

* The 3DS remake adds a bit of text to the descriptions for the transformation masks, that they contain the power of a Goron, the wisdom of a Zora, and the courage of a Deku Scrub. Aside from tying into the "power, wisdom, courage" trio the series is known for, how does this at all fit or make sense? While I can understand Darmani possessing power, when does Mikau ever demonstrate wisdom or smart thinking? The way he charged by himself into the pirates' fortress in order to steal his eggs back wasn't wise at all, and would probably fit more with courage, and with how little we know about the Deku Butler's son, the only thing that would suggest he had any courage was that he was apprently inside the catacombs when he died.
** Mikau did a little more than sneak into a fortress full of pirate guards, you know. Don't forget that he not only manages to recognize Link as someone who can help, but also manages to explain how his abilities work, so well that Link picks up on them almost immediately, with his last dying breath, in a freaking song?
** That is pretty admirable, but it's not exactly wise, I would say. And also, he didn't really "recognize" Link as someone who could help -- he called out to the first person who came across him while he was floating in the bay, and left him his final message because Link said he would listen -- note that he doesn't actually task Link with saving the eggs until after Link has played the Song of Healing for him, which Darmani's passing does imply creates some sort of bond or connection between Link and whoever has passed on.
** Technically, just because we don't know these characters lived up to their virtues, that doesn't mean that they couldn't have. Mikau might've wisely formulated a clever plan to infiltrate the Pirate's Fortress and was caught due to unforeseen circumstances. And it wouldn't be very difficult to classify the Deku Butler's son as being brave -- considering how fragile and helpless Deku Link is, it would take a tremendous amount of courage for someone of his status to do almost anything.
** In [=OoT=] the Zora, Gorons, and Kokiri are associated with Nayru (goddess of wisdom), Din (goddess of power), and Farore (goddess of courage) respectively due to the spiritual stones, so it makes sense that they might be viewed as being in some way attuned to the assocated virtue. The Deku scrubs aren't the Kokiri, but they are the Terminian counterpart. So it's not that the masks contain the virtues of those specific individuals, just virtues associated with their races as a whole.

* So, explain to me why it is you can sit anywhere in Termina and have the clock continue ticking, except the interior of the clock tower?
** The clock tower's interior seems to be one end to a bridge between the worlds of Hyrule and Termina, meaning it might not exist within the time zone of either one. Also, the mask salesman is implied to have some mystic power in this game, and he spends the game inside the clock tower -- he could use this power to freeze time at the bridge's end whenever Link comes inside, so that he isn't wasting precious time poking around inside a place with nothing for him to gain from doing so.

* When you beat Odolwa, the Swamp is cleaner and it's not poisonous anymore. When you defeat Goht, winter clears up for the most part. But when you defeat Gyorg and Twinmold, what exactly happens to those areas? Great Bay still has its murky waters, and Ikana Canyon still pretty much looks the same too.
** For Gyorg: The climate of Great Bay changes back to normal. The water was too warm for the fish.
** For Twinmold: The curse placed upon Ikana Canyon gets lifted.
** The curse over the canyon at Stone Tower is probably the most vaguely explained overall, since many characters there only refer to it as a "curse", and very little seems to change, apart from the Gibdoes going away, after defeating Twinmold. I think the case was that the curse brought the deceased from Ikana's bloody history back to life, and they were basically forced to go through a living death, continually facing the regrets of the past, until Twinmold's defeat gave them the opportunity to return to their eternal rest when they wanted to, thus explaining why some of them continue to hang around, while others disappear completely after the curse lifts.
** I'm still not clear on what defeating Twinmold accomplishes mechanically. Odolwa unlockes Koume's archery game, Goht unlocks the Frog Choir, and Gyorg unlocks the jumping minigame. Twinmold has no such sidequest.
*** Assuming the player doesn't do any SequenceBreaking, Twinmold is the last boss faced before taking on Majora's Mask. Maybe the developers thought that'd be enough of an unlock?
*** Twinmold doesn't unlock anything like that because he doesn't need to and wasn't designed to. It's not mandatory that defeating each boss unlocks some sort of new minigame - the other three just happened to do so. Plus, Ikana's primary population is undead, and defeating Twinmold is what allows them to pass on, so it makes sense that the area would become a bit less lively after you clear the temple.

* Speak to Mr. Barten on the Night of the Final Day and he recounts how he waited inside his Milk Bar out of hope that one of his favorite customers would show up, and follows it up by revealing this favorite customer to be Link. But why would Link be his favorite customer? Link is completely foreign to the dimension Termina exists in, meaning Mr. Barten has known him at best for only three days, and if I recall correctly, he says the same thing no matter how many times you've been inside the Milk Bar in the current three-day cycle, meaning his favorite customer is potentially someone he's never met before.
** I like to think that Mr. Barten, as any amiable bartender (get it?), hears a lot of stories and anecdotes from his patrons. Like, for example, about that one kid in green clothes who is helping people around and may or may not have something to do with major positive changes in all four corners of Termina. That or simply he has seen a lot of people during his time behind the counter, at their worst and best, and by then he just can tell a lot about a guy's life story from the moment they walk into the bar and something about Link told Barten that he was a particularly good kind of person.
** Fair enough, but the point still stands that you could go into the Milk Bar on the Final Day without accomplishing anything at all in the current cycle, and he'd still say you're his favorite...which is weird. Unless Mr. Barten subscribes to the organization of characters in Termina who are unaffected by time travel, which, I'll admit, I wouldn't quite put past him.
** Or that's his catchphrase to greet every customer. Maybe it's an icebreaker - "Hey, look, it's my favorite customer!" "What? You've never met me before." "You make a good point. Why not sit down and tell me about yourself?"
** Also helps that you're the one person to show up to the bar and spend time with him while the clock ticks down to the end of the world. Kinda hard not to like a guy who stops by to spend a bit of time with you before you die.
** In the 3DS version, things seem to have been modified so that Mr. Barten won't call you his favorite customer unless you've been to the bar on either of the previous two nights. (And if you've done something of significance there, like the sound check, possibly.)
*** In fact, upon some more careful reading, in the 3DS version he doesn't call you his "favorite customer" at all. Now he just says he hopes someone will be "crazy" enough to stop in and visit with him on the Final Night.
** Anyway, in the original game, he does say that Link is only one of his favorite customers, which is not such a high bar as him being his absolute favorite. Especially depending on how many other favorites Mr. Barten has.
** Adults say stuff like that to little kids all the time to make them feel special. Could just be he was trying to be friendly and nice to a kid who came in to see him in their final moments.

* Tatl, along with Link, is not subject to the rules of time travel and can remember everything that has happened in previous cycles. Yet, when Tatl and Link meet Kafei behind the Curiosity Shop, she always expresses her surprise that Kafei is a child instead of the adult that they were looking for. If she and Link met Kafei before in a previous cycle, shouldn't she remember Kafei's explanation that Majora cursed him? There are numerous cutscenes in the game that change upon repeated viewing (e.g. the cutscene atop the Clock Tower, where Tatl's dialogue depends on whether it's your first time or whether you've awakened all four giants), so why wasn't this cutscene changed so that Tatl would say something like, "Let me guess... a masked imp cursed you, and that's why you're a kid, right?" after the first cycle?
** A few possible explanations...One is that Tatl knows Kafei was cursed and is merely playing dumb as a means of pushing his buttons, since she repeatedly expresses her dislike of him throughout the sidequest, while another might be that the Goddess of Time makes Tatl specifically forget this encounter with him so that she is forced to relive it and this face the consequences of the acts against others that she partook in alongside the Skull Kid. A third would be that the game's writers might not have expected people to go through that sidequest enough times to notice the error, since it is the most involved in the game, or they legitimately forgot to correct it themselves.
*** Except this sidequest is mandatory to complete twice for OneHundredPercentCompletion (Express Mail to Mama). There are changed lines even a completionist might never see, but this is not one.
** Since Link also repeats the same reactions to sidequest events seen in previous cycles, I think it's possible, if not probable, that his and Tatl's RippleEffectProofMemory only extends to events in the main story, not side-material. So Tatl keeps expressing shock at meeting Kafei because her memories of him from previous cycles aren't carrying over.
** It's well-known that the game had a particularly rushed development period, which is why it's so derivative in its assets. It wouldn't be surprising to learn that they just didn't have time to rewrite so many parts of it based on whether the player had seen them already. Link and Tatl even seem to forget where Epona is in between cycles since they're always surprised to find her at Romani Ranch, but there's no reason for the Goddess of Time to make them forget that.

* So does nobody else in Clock Town wonder what's with the stone doors that won't open? I'm referring to the doors that Link goes through to get to the Clock Tower following the underground catacombs and the twisted corridor at the beginning of the game. They just shut after you go through them and are impossible to open. Do any of the Clock Town citizens find anything weird about them? Clearly people go into this area for maintenance as seen by the massive gear on the ground near the doors.
** Maybe. If the doors are sealed shut, though, then there's nothing anyone can do to get through them, so they'd really have no choice but to forget about it. Mutoh and his carpenters seem to be the only ones close to matching the description of maintence workers, and they don't strike me as the type to worry about something like that, anyway, especially since the metal square inset into the wall doesn't even look much like a door, except for when it's open - they could just assume it was some quirky design choice when the building was being made.
** In addition, the gear you've mentioned appears to be covered in moss and some sort of sediment, if I recall correctly - judging by its appearance, it'd seem safe to assume no one's been down in that area for maintence in a while. That gear might've even been one of the ones that was used to construct the tower.
** And even if anyone does wonder what's beyond the door and manages to pry it open, well, who cares if that happens? It's not like it was ever suggested that Hyrule's existence is meant to be a secret. It's not even evident from travelling between them that they're in separate universes, so that the tunnel lets out in another place probably wouldn't be considered a very big discovery.

* In the event that Link doesn't show up, why doesn't Romani use Epona to fend off the ghosts on the first night? It's at least possible that Epona could trust her enough to let her ride, since Romani knows and can sing the song Epona likes and looks identical to Malon, Epona's previous owner, and it's already implied she knows how to ride a horse. (Otherwise, who put the sign up telling Link how to do it?)
** Maybe Cremia doesn't want Romani riding her in the event that something happens. If Romani accidentally injures Epona and her owner (which we know is Link) sees this, then Cremia or Romani would have to try and talk a way out of trouble. Better safe than sorry, I guess.
** She'd also have to be worried about Romani getting hurt. As we see in the game, they're not exactly rolling in piles of Rupees. If Romani broke her leg or arm, or worse... Do you think Cremia has the medical expenses to care for her sister if she got hurt?
*** That's only a problem in the US, at least for a first world country. Termina is a fantasy world that could very well have free healthcare. A Great Fairy also lives in North Clock Town, so if they need healing they can just go there.
** Also, it's possible that Romani is capable of riding a horse and shooting a bow, but not good enough at them to do both at once. She may be more confident shooting from the ground.
** Plus, explaining horseback riding and actually doing it are very different things, or so I would think.

* It sort of bugs me that even on the night of the final day, when the moon is inches from completely destroying Clock Town, the gate guards still refuse to let Deku Link leave on his own. Why do they find it safer for him to stay in a place where he is guaranteed to be killed within moments, as opposed to letting him go face-to-face against monsters that he could at least possibly defeat or run away from?
** Maybe the FantasticRacism in Termina runs a little deeper than the player would first be inclined to think...
** Because what the guard is seeing is a lost Deku child asking to leave the city. His parents must be worried about him. Maybe his family is planning on evacuating, but they don't want to leave without their child. The guard doesn't know, so he tells this Deku to go find his parents. True, we know that the only Deku in town are Business Scrubs who are in town on...well, business...but on the other hand, we aren't standing around guarding the town gates for three days straight.

* It's heavily speculated by some tropers that the giant grimacing face made of rock that's slowly descending to Termina isn't actually the moon, but rather a horrifying creation of the Skull Kid through Majora's powers. My question is: if that isn't the real moon, then where is it? The sun rises and sets during Termina's 3-day cycle as it usually does, so why doesn't the normal moon show up at night like it did in Ocarina of Time?
** I'm going to assume that it is the genuine moon, especially since there's no real reason to assume that it isn't. Why would anyone in Termina see fit to call it a moon unless they knew that's what it was?
*** Actually, I don't think it's the real moon, but rather a powerful conjuration summoned by Majora to bring about large-scale terror and destruction. Such is the power of the demon in the mask that it can veil the true moon from the night sky, fooling the casual observer into believing that it is in fact descending upon the world, thereby augmenting its menacing presence. The reason I don't believe it's the real moon is the conversation between the juggling twins in East Clock Town, where one of them refers to it as a "scary-faced moon". This implies that the physical appearance of Majora's moon is very much out of the ordinary in Termina.
*** Clock Town is full of depictions of the moon with a smiling face, so the scary part of that is what's unusual. Normally it's a happy-faced moon, but the events of the game have put a bit of a damper on its good cheer.

* I've wondered this for many years now...Why does Lulu have a Deku Scrub living in her dressing room? How did he get in there? How long has he been in there? Does she know that he's there? Why would he think it would be a good place to do business?
** Remember that this particular Scrub Merchant expresses an interest in selling products to Gorons. But since they live up in Snowhead, which may or may not still be frozen depending on the three-day cycle you're in, he just decided to hang out in a nice tropical area and happened to be squatting in Lulu's room. Whether or not she notices him is another story.
** If you speak to him as Mikau, he does ask you if it's your room, and then asks if you'd consider renting it to him. It's likely him settling in there was only a recent development, hence why no one's told him to leave yet.
** Since her eggs were stolen, she's been going through a HeroicBSOD by the ocean for quite some time, probably long enough not to notice a Deku Scrub snuck in to her room.

* At the end of the game, why doesn't Link seem to consider staying in Termina? Sure, Hyrule is his homeland, but it's been made clear that no one there remembers the heroic deeds he performed in Ocarina of Time - the most anyone knows about him is that he stopped Ganondorf's coming attack and allowed the king to apprehend him. Not to mention, the knowledge that he will soon be forced to outgrow the people he's grown up alongside so far. (Who were never really that friendly to him, anyway.) On the other hand, in Termina, everyone has met Link in at least some capacity, they all remember the catastrophe he saved them from, Romani even offers to let him live at the ranch from then on...Did he ever consider staying there an option?
** Remember, Link's original goal was not to save Termina. It was finding his old friend Navi. I bet that Link enjoyed exploring the world and meeting it's citizens as much as the player does. However, it also becomes apparent that while Termina is a beautiful place with wonderful people, it's incredibly small. If Link found Navi during his quest to save Termina, maybe he would have stayed. But he didn't. And there's no point in staying around to look for her because there's nowhere else in Termina to explore. So Link leaves in order to find Navi, and Termina ceases to exist. Personally, this troper believes that Link should have stayed, especially with the whole lesson that Skull Kid learns about how old friends will always care about you, but can't always be with you. But maybe Link prefers to be with someone that he's known for most of his life, and has been with him every step of the way. The citizens of Termina are nice, but they haven't experienced what Link has experienced.
*** Couldn't he at least have stayed for the carnival? Sure, Tatl basically told him to piss off, but he saved their world, couldn't he at least get the honor of attending the carnival? That was one thing that annoyed me about the ending.
*** The end credits show that he did at least stay for some of it - we can see him, under the guise of Mikau, playing guitar alongside the Indigo-Gos for their carnival performance.
*** While he may not have stayed in Termina, there are hints that he did return there after his adventure was over; during the ending, the Happy Mask Salesman tells him that "Whenever there is a meeting, a parting is sure to follow. But that parting need not last forever. Whether a parting be forever or merely a short time...that is up to you." Suggesting that while Link needs to go back to Hyrule, primarily to search for Navi, there's nothing saying he can't pop back to Termina for a visit every so often. And at one point, Romani asks him if he can help her fend off the ghosts again next year. If Link went so far as to fill Mikau's role in the concert, there's no reason why he wouldn't do the same at Romani Ranch every year. Might explain how his descendant in Twilight Princess got into ranching, in fact.

* Why is Anju's conversation with her mother on the night of the Second Day the same regardless of whether or not the Kafei and Anju sidequest is underway? If you're not doing the sidequest, then it makes sense that Anju wonders if Kafei has ditched her for Cremia and agrees with her mother that survival is the most important thing. However, if you are doing the sidequest, then it's entirely possible to give Anju the Pendant of Memories--which convinces her to believe in Kafei and stay at the Stock Pot Inn to wait for him instead of taking refuge at Romani Ranch with her family--on the Second Day. And if Anju has the pendant by the time of her conversation with her mother, why wouldn't she say she's decided to wait for her fiance no matter what?
** Out of universe, the developers probably forgot to make that cutscene unviewable if the sidequest was already underway. In-universe, it could be Anju's way of voicing whatever lingering regrets she has about Kafei's whereabouts, even if most of her believes that he will return, and her agreeing with her mother is something of a bluff to keep her from arguing/worrying about her.
*** This goof seemed to have been corrected in the 3DS version, I tried initiating the sidequest and then spent the night in the Knife Chamber waiting to see it, and I couldn't get it to trigger at all.

* The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Encyclopedia tries to explain that Termina is a construct of Majora's Mask made of Skull Kid's fractured psyche and memories, which is why Termina is a weird mirror of Hyrule. However, there's a cutscene in the game showing Skull Kid meeting Tatl and Tael in Termina Field before he found the mask. Did the writers of the book just forget the scene happened?
** As a VersusDoylist reason, perhaps the meeting was a fake memory implanted in Tatl by Skull Kid/Majora (since the cutscene in question is her recollection). That said, the Doylist reason would be that yes, the writers of the book admitted to taking liberties with the Zelda lore. Anything in it should be taken with a big grain with salt, particularly if WordOfGod and/or common sense trumps it (there are other huge inconsistencies too, like how Termina is more technologically/sociologically advanced than Hyrule, and also how Skull Kid apparently has memories of so many Hyrulean citizens when he lived in the Lost Woods).
** There is another big case of fridge logic that needs some explaining. The book asserts that many of Termina's inhabitants come from Skull Kid's memories of Hyrule, but that is impossible. Skull Kid was a former Kokiri (as it is Kokiri who turn into Skull Kids if they get lost in the Lost Woods), and as such, he has NEVER been outside of the forest. How can he have memories of so many people that he's never met?
** Both of these questions had already been posted before, in fact, but they were deleted after the encyclopedia was disregarded as non-canon. Within the context of what it says, however, Termina borrowed from Link's memories as well as the Skull Kid's. That's why it features things one of them witnessed in Hyrule, even though the other couldn't have.
*** Having read the Encyclopedia, I can affirm that it does not mention anything about Link's memories influencing Termina, so that excuse is kaput.
*** I noticed the same, and am not sure exactly where that explanation came from, then. I provided it here because it was given as the answer to the original question that got deleted a while back.
** I'm glad the book was declared non-canon, otherwise I would be very confused as to why Skull Kid would be trying to destroy a world that's in his own head.
** Yeah, the writers of the Encyclopedia clearly slipped their minds on several parts:
*** Whoever wrote the Ocarina section never played Skyward Sword, as they seemingly have no knowledge of Demise and think Ganon's reincarnation was all his own doing. They also act like Ganondorf died the same way at the same time in all three timelines.
*** Whoever wrote the Wind Waker section never played Link Between Worlds, as they think the Triforce can be destroyed with no ill effect; The world was clearly not falling apart in Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.
*** Does the book really say that? That the Triforce was destroyed at the end of The Wind Waker?
*** The Japanese version did, as seen here. The real disgusting thing is that some fans actually try to justify this crap. "Well, maybe only Lorule's Triforce causes the world to fall apart" they argue, which doesn't hold water because Ravio clearly spells to out to Hilda that stealing the Triforce would "ruin" Hyrule in the ending.
*** Now that I've read the English version, I can at least say that it's not as bad as I once thought. For one, I can't find a mention anywhere of the Hyrulean Triforce being destroyed -- the most the book says on the subject is that its whereabouts at the end of The Wind Waker are unknown. And even the "Termina disappears" thing isn't explained in 100% detail; for instance, the book mentions "a world" that the Skull Kid turned into Termina, and implies that this world continues to exist even after the end of the game, while clarifying that it's not the same world as Hyrule. It's also mentioned that the actions of the imp and the Four Giants in the story "faded into history", even though there wouldn't be an actual history if Skull Kid had just created the world. I'd say there's definitely enough shaky ground here to strike this concept from the canonical record for the time being, and just write it off as something the authors got wrong.
*** The part about Termina's "history" makes the encyclopedia flat-out contradict itself given they also plainly stated that Termina "Ceased to exist". And while the English version did fix the blatant error regarding destroying the Triforce, it still retains all the other errors (such as the aforementioned ignorance of Demise's role in Ganondorf's resurrection). Not to mention their "relationship charts" are a mess: connecting characters who had no interaction and never mentioned each other, not connecting those that did, making up names for characters that didn't have them, and not giving names to characters that do have them.
*** I don’t know about the relationship charts — to be sure, they are really messy and confusing to sort through, but I haven’t come across any entries that go against the games. And there’s nothing overtly wrong with giving names to characters who didn’t have them already. But there’s no denying that the book gets plenty of things wrong, like saying Valoo was a fire spirit (not the sky spirit he’s identified as), or suggesting that Dragon Roost Island was once Zora’s Domain just because the successors of the Zora live there, despite all other evidence hinting that it’s Death Mountain. And it’s a shame, too, because it also offers some some valuable insight into certain topics, like how it clears up the slightly-confusing backstory of Spirit Tracks. But those moments of insight are wasted if you can’t tell what’s truthful and canon and what’s made up.
*** In fact, here's a demonstration that the book's inaccuracies go further than just retcons or misinterpretations -- there's an entire snippet in The Wind Wakers section about how certain tints and gradations were attempted for Link's eyes throughout development, but that they ultimately settled on "solid black ones with black eyebrows." Even though a single page previous to this, there are screenshots from the game that clearly show his finalized eyes have tints of blue to them. All they needed to do to verify this would've been to look at a picture, any picture of him, to be able to tell. If they couldn't even manage that, how are they supposed to seem credible when they're rewriting major portions of background lore for no reason?

* How can you collect Goht's Remains (its mask) if the thing was buried head-first under a huge pile of rocks?
** Mayhaps the mask flew off on its own when Goht slammed into the wall? Or defeating Goht was all it took to free the Snowhead Giant, and he removed it from underneath the rock and rubble via magic so that Link could take it.

* If you try to leave the fishing holes as Fierce Deity Link, you get told that you can't leave and that the guy working there doesn't know where you came from. Well, if you put the mask on before talking to him when you enter, he doesn't even bat an eye when you pay. How on earth doesn't he notice how you look then?
** He probably wasn't paying close attention to his face because he thought of him as just another customer. Or maybe the developers weren't expecting you to put a mask on before paying and therefore didn't program alternate dialogue.
** The Fishing Hole guy says, "If ya leave here looking like that", which indicates that he might know Link is the same guy no matter what mask he wears.
** If you try leaving again, he says something along the lines of, "I told ya, you have to do something about that scary face", which pretty much confirms that he knows Link can shapeshift, as he wouldn't have any need to say that otherwise.

* I’ve always wondered, ever since playing Majora’s Mask, about the fact that Kafei and Anju both have the same symbols/letters? on their clothing. Is it a reference to anything? Or merely there to remind us that Kafei and Anju are soulmates who share similar clothing style designs to showcase this?
** Anju already had those markings on her dress when she appeared in Ocarina of Time. With that in mind, it's likely they chose to give Kafei the same markings when they created him for this game, as an easy way to signify the relationship between them.

* Why are the Gorman brothers in competition with Romani Ranch in the first place, when they don't seem to run the same sort of businesses? One is a track that trains horses and doesn't have any cows, and the other is a dairy farm that doesn't keep any horses besides Epona, who the girls just found and took in.
* GameplayAndStorySegregation. The Gorman Brothers do sell milk and compete with the Romani Ranch, the animals simply don't factor into the game mechanically.

* In order to ensure that Anju didn't lose faith in him, why didn't Kafei include the pendant with his first letter instead of waiting to have Link give it to her?
** Perhaps since Kafei's mother is the postmistress he knows that even if he did put in the pendant of memories in the mailbox it wouldn't have been delivered? Unsure if it's the same in the original but in the 3DS version if you try to submit anything that isn't a letter it tells you that it only accepts letters and won't let you put in other stuff plus once you get the postman's hat you can just take and keep whatever isn't a letter like a rupee or a heart piece. There's also the fact that Kafei may have only trusted Link to give Anju the pendant as Anju had said she trusted Link.

* I've been wondering lately if the moon falling at the speed it does in-game would really cause that much damage...I mean, it's not that big relative to the size of Termina, and it's not moving very fast. I could see it flattening most of Clock Town, but I don't see where that fiery shockwave you see once time runs down is coming from.
** Relatively small asteroids hitting the surface of the Earth can cause a lot of destruction. See the common and mostly accepted theory of why the dinosaurs went extinct.
** But those asteroids are also moving a lot faster, which is where most of their damage output results from.
** Perhaps, the moon begins falling quickly once the final hours are up instead of only moving in increments?
** It may not be the collision that causes the shockwave. The Moon is engulfed in a fireball as it touches down on the Clock Tower. It's not crushing the world with force, it's exploding with the force of every nuke in the known (real) world.

* Before heading back to Termina, Skull Kid stole Link's ocarina and turned him into a Deku. This is resolved at the end of the first cycle, fortunately. But why doesn't the next cycle's Skull Kid notice that Link not only managed to break his curse, but also has that instrument that he had literally just run off with? Unless the mask's memory is also ripple-proof... but in that case, it should be reacting very differently to Link's arrival.
** Even if Skull Kid did notice that something about Link was amiss, his whole thought process, which he announces to you atop the Clock Tower, is that it doesn't matter what Link does -- it doesn't even matter whether the Four Giants themselves were to come, because he (or rather, the mask he's wearing) thinks he's too powerful for anything to put a stop to him.

* Why doesn't the Stray Fairy in Clock Town ever go back to her fairy fountain on her own? With the others, they're all trapped inside dungeons, and their consciousnesses may be spread so thin between the 15 that they jaren't cognizant enough to get back on their own, but the one in Clock Town moves between areas each day and night and is able to tell Link that the fountain is in North Clock Town. It can't be said that she just doesn't know.
** It's possible that the Clock Town Great Fairy was destined by fate to help Link move forward on his journey, and/or had been watching him. Firstly, she's the only fairy you are required to restore in order to beat the game, as the others are entirely optional. Second, she outright tells Link to come back for "something good" (the Great Fairy's Mask) once he returns to normal. There's no way she could've known that he wasn't actually a Deku had she not oversaw him - she somehow knew exactly what happened to Link without even having met him before, so I think it's safe to say something greater was at play.
** When she gives you her mask, the Great Fairy tells you it has to be worn so that the Stray Fairies don’t fear you. With that in mind, it’s possible her Stray Fairy is too timid or afraid to travel through the more crowded parts of Clock Town, hence why she sticks to the deserted Laundry Pool by day and makes tracks for East Clock Town at night, presumably in a bid to return home before it gets busy again. This is also why she pleads with Link to return her to her fountain if you catch her — rather than for exposition’s sake, it’s because she’s genuinely afraid of what you could do to her.

* In the remake, Shiro the soldier is stuck in the Pirates' Fortress because he can't swim while wearing armor. How did he get into the fortress, then?
** I would imagine he probably just took a boat there or something of the sort. The Gerudos probably got in through an entrance not shown on-screen, and he may have worn the Stone Mask himself to get in that way unseen.
** It’s possible, while wearing the Stone Mask, to hitch a ride on the boats the Gerudo use to patrol the harbor section of the fortress. And the pirates were out on the sea recently searching for the Zora eggs at Pinnacle Rock. Maybe they made landfall to regroup after their attempt, and Shiro snuck onto the boat then.

* Once Link defeats the final boss, the Happy Mask Salesman and Tatl usher Link to go back home instead of letting him relax and enjoying the carnival. Why? Doesn’t Link deserve a break after reliving the last three days multiple times?
** Tatl was almost assuredly putting up a front to mask her sadness at seeing Link go. And the mask salesman was just gently reminding Link of what he'd been doing before getting dragged into Termina. At no point did he say anything like, "What the heck are you still doing here? Your work is done here, so you can go ahead and leave now."

* If Deku Link's body is light enough to skip on the water's surface, why does falling into the water cause him to instantly sink and drown?
** I’d guess it’s because Deku Link can’t close his mouth, meaning he can’t hold his breath in or keep water out. If a boat takes on too much water, it’s going to sink whether it’s made of wood or not.

* Since you can get to Romani Ranch on the third day from the onset of the game, why doesn’t Link tell Cremia that Epona belongs to him so that she can let her out of the pen? Why does he need to wait for Romani to do it?
** Presumably Cremia is too distraught taking care of her mind wiped sister to even consider horse ownership disputes.
** Cremia may also find it difficult to believe that a child like Link would own such a wild and ornery-seeming horse. Hence why, in the correct sequence of events, it’s Romani who gives him the horse, and Cremia is also given a chance to recognize that he’s mature enough to own one.

* In the Honey and Darling minigames, you can attack the duo, which will cause them to complain that it hurts, and the timer stops during this, meaning that it's actually to your advantage to do so. What kind of establishment allows a person to attack the hosts with either a bow or straight up explosives? Especially considering they technically reward those who attack them. Surely those sorts of actions should be a call for disqualification, and likely a ban from the place.
** It's simple gameplay and story segregation. Especially since you don't need to go into the shop at all for any of the mask quests. That, or they are just into it.
