* When the races are run, they must go through dozens of green and red shells each race (and a few blue spiked ones, much to every player's lament). Where the heck do they get them all? Something tells me Koopa Troopas wouldn't exactly be keen on having them harvested for every grand prix.
** A Koopa Troopa can abandon his shell as if it was just an item of clothing.
*** So, it's comparable to throwing underwear as a distraction? Not that I have done it...
*** Yeah, if the underwear causes a small explosion on contact at high speeds. I think Koopa Troopas can grow more. The fact that we've had at least three from such species in the races in the past (Koopa Troopa, Paratroopa, and Dry Bones) is proof they're perfectly fine.
*** I always assumed they were prosthetic/fake (who says the Mushroom Kingdom doesn't have plastic?) rigged with explosives.
** In ''VideoGame/{{Paper Mario|64}}, one Koopa Troopa explicitly mentions that he had his shell custom-made for him, and that's why it fits so well. The Mushroom Kingdom seems to have some really good biotech (or bioMagiTek) which allows them to create things like Koopa shells, so it stands to reason they could make versions for use in Mario Kart that have some special properties.
* Why is it that ''Mario Kart: Super Circuit'' has so little Retro racetrack representation compared to other Mario Kart games relative to its age? Every course from ''Mario Kart 64'' save for its Wario Stadium has been used, as is three-quarters (12 out of 16) of ''Mario Kart: Double Dash!!'', but only two-fifths (8 out of 20) have been used in ''Mario Kart: Super Circuit''. That being said, the amount from ''Super Mario Kart'' is only slightly higher (at 9 out of 10), but its themes and music recur so much that there's limited ability to bring back courses from that game. It's as if ''Super Circuit'' is being deliberately withheld from the Retro Cups. (These numbers don't include Battle courses, where there seems to be some sort of attempt at equal representation from past games.)
** The flat terrain of Super Circuit (because of the Mode 7) might have something to do with it. There's only so much you can do with them when recreating them (as opposed to the more three-dimensional 64, DS and Double Dash tracks). ''8'' made some effort with the three GBA tracks it received (Mario Circuit, Ribbon Road, and Cheese Land) and modified them to have anti-gravity segments and hills.
* Why is it that if you, the player character, score above third place, everyone who participated shows up to the ceremony, but if you manage to score lower, your character is just left to sit out alone?
** [[StatingTheObvious Because you didn't make it to 3+ place]].
** Your character chose not to show up out of embarrassment. [[GameplayAndStoryIntegration Just like you, they were playing to win.]]
* There are some odd choices regarding some of the racers:
** Why are the baby characters able to drive? They are way too young to even have a license yet.
** How is it possible for King Boo, a ghost with no legs, to drive a kart?
** Where did Pink Gold Peach come from?
*** In real life she was created solely to compliment Metal Mario, who has a big fanbase in Japan. Coming up with an in-universe reason is as futile as explaining why Mario and Metal Mario can co-exist.
