The other vikings and eventually Fang and Scorch get very fed up with Olaf about this. Ironically, the first time it occurs it's Baleog who incurs this unintentionally (due to him remarking about he and the others being in the dark for ages) and the last time it happens it actually HELPS the vikings get on the right track to getting home.
