* A bit of BlackComedy. Raoden has woken up to the worst day of his life: he's been taken by the Shaod, thrown into Elantris by his father, chased by some half-crazy walking dead for what little food he's been given by the priests and [[WoundThatWillNotHeal stubbed his toe]]. [[MoodWhiplash Suddenly]], he notices something rather important:
--> I don't have a heartbeat.
* Hrathen has a tendency to accompany his departure with a CapeSwish. The first time Sarene seen him do it, she's disappointed he didn't trip on it.
* Sarene trolls Hrathen by interrupting his big speech to Arelon, asking why Jaddeth prefers people to animals. When Hrathen answers that it is because humans do not indulge their base lusts, Sarene asks why Jaddeth would encourage ambition then, since arrogance is also a lust. Hrathen is left sputtering and loses the crowd entirely.
* Raoden and Galladon are waiting for new arrivals to Elantris in order to recruit them in Raoden's "gang". This involves hiding from [[AxeCrazy Shaor's men]], who would like nothing better than to leave them [[WoundThatWillNotHeal broken]]. Galladon questions the sanity of the plan:
-->'''Galladon:''' ''(sigh)'' I’m not so bored with death that I want to abandon it in favor of an existence of pure pain. [[VerbalTic Kolo?]]\
'''Raoden:''' Galladon, someday you’re going to get over this determined pessimism of yours, and all of Elantris will collapse from the shock.\
'''Galladon:''' Pessimism? Pessimism? [[TheCynic Me?]] Dulas are the most lighthearted, easygoing people in Opelon! We look at each day with—Sule? Don’t you dare leave when I’m defending myself!
* Sarene is a little worked up because of Spirit (a.k.a. Raoden) and her growing fascination with him, so she works out her anger during fencing practice. Daora notices her behaviour and decides to talk to her about it. Unfortunately, she has the wrong guy pegged:
-->'''Daora:''' I’ve seen [[LongingLook the look in your eyes]] these last few days, and I’ve also seen the frustration. The two emotions [[BelligerentSexualTension go together]] more often than youthful hearts expect.\
'''Sarene:''' ''(sincerely)'' I assure you, Aunt, [[HeIsNotMyBoyfriend I have no interest]] [[ExactWords in Lord Shuden]].\
'''Daora:''' ''(unconvinced)'' Of course, dear.\
''([[ObliviousToLove Sarene]] shakes off Daora's concerns and returns to her favorite pass-time as of late: [[HypocriticalHumour finding new and increasingly creative ways to annoy Spirit]])''
* Sarene [[spoiler:returns from Elantris]] and realizes she's hungry. As soon as she enters [[SupremeChef Kiin's]] dining room, she starts eating. And eating. And ''eating''....
-->'''Lukel:''' ''(as she finishes the fourth plate)'' You’d better move faster, Cousin. You looked like you almost had time to taste that one.\
''(Kiin presents the fifth dish; Sarene starts wolfing it down unceremoniously)'' \
'''Kiin:''' You don’t care [how I cooked it], do you? I could have boiled it in dishwater, and it would be the same to you.\
'''Sarene:''' I understand, Uncle. You suffer for your art.\
''(a little later)''\
'''Kiin:''' Is she slowing down at all? I’m running out of supplies.
* When Raoden figures out [[spoiler:how to fix the Aons by adding a chasm line]], he's so excited that he immediately applies this new knowledge to the Aon he's working on...which just so happens to be the Aon for a giant fireball. [[DidntThinkThisThrough In a library]]. They are then forced to halt research for half an hour just to put it out.
--> '''Raoden''': Maybe next time we don't start our experiments [[TooDumbToLive with fire]]. Kolo?
* [[https://www.brandonsanderson.com/elantris-deleted-scenes-the-mad-prince/ The deleted scenes revolving around the cut character of the "Mad Prince" Eton, Raoden's brother, whose role was basically entirely taken by Telrii.]] Brandon has noted that he was still fond of Eton as a character, partly because of his interactions with Hrathen, and as shown, they're ''hilarious''. Poor Hrathen quickly realizes that Eton is utterly uncontrollable, his oath to Shu-Dereth basically meaningless and he's beginning to regret backing Eton as a puppet king due to how utterly chaotic and unpredictable he is, having to deal with Eton's random and contradictory commands and his inexplicable obsession with the made-up game of [[{{Calvinball}} "stones"]] which Eton ''claims'' was invented in Fjorden, much to Hrathen's bewilderment. Even after Eton dies, his method of conducting executions (having the executioner perform the swing with their eyes closed, if the strike connects, the prisoner is guilty, if it misses, the prisoner is innocent) is seen by Hrathen as one last slap in the face from beyond the grave since it [[spoiler:allows Raoden to walk away from his trial an innocent man.]]
