* A friend sends an ardent member of the birth control movement to the Gilbreths', telling her that Mrs. Gilbreth might be a good candidate for joining. HilarityEnsues.
* The family drives, especially the one in which a woman mistakes the children for orphans and Dad for the superintendent.
* During Dad and Mother's first date (a drive), one jerk asks Dad (who'd been trying to stay genteel to impress Mother), "Say Noah, what are you doing with that ark?" Dad finally loses his patience:
--> '''Dad''': Collecting animals like the good Lord told me to. All I need now is a jackass. Hop in.
* Dad (who had previously scared the children by honking the horn while they were looking in the engine for a non-existent bird) [[ATasteOfHisOwnMedicine gets scared in like manner by the youngest child while fixing the engine]].
-->Nobody noticed Bill. He climbed into the front seat. And then -- ''kadooka, kadooka''.
* While the family's out on holiday (a complicated enterprise with twelve kids), one of the younger boys goes missing. Frantic to find him, Dad returns to a restaurant the family visited earlier in the day, unaware that the clientele ''entirely'' changes in the evening. When Dad sticks his head in a booth, a cheeky woman pipes at him, "Hello, Pops! You looking for a naughty little girl?" Flustered, Dad sputters, "No! [[MistakenForGay I'm looking for a naughty little boy!]]"
* As they grow older, the Gilbreth children begin to associate Mother being sick in bed with the mysterious arrival of new babies. The Gilbreth parents have to have TheTalk with their children after Mother goes to bed early one night with a cold, convincing them that a new baby is imminent.
** Mother tells them that she's very happy that they asked that question. Her demeanor says differently.
** Their parents' reactions and Mother's attempt at discussing "the birds and the bees" just leave the children confused. Anne notes that it's bizarre for Mother to avoid a question in that way, and Dad left the room in a hurry "like he knew where something was buried."
