* Vodka is already grain alcohol and water. Essentially Ripper's solution to avoiding Commie fluids is to make his own.
* It has been noticed that if you compared the cool and methodical Ripper with the bombastic Turgidson without understanding the context, you might think Ripper was the sane one and Turgidson the crazy guy, but in reality, Ripper is dangerously paranoid and Turgidson is usually correct about his accusations and is working with the President to try and resolve the situation. Given that Ripper is implied to suffer from [[TheLoinsSleepTonight male performance issues]] and repressed sexuality, while Turgidson is shown to be fooling around with his secretary right up to shortly before he gets called in to deal with the crisis, it's possible that Turgidson is mentally healthy and not trying to start a nuclear war simply ''because'' he isn't holding anything in or questioning his manhood.
** Though given how eager Turgidson is to exploit Ripper's preemptive strike and hit the Russians early on, his mental acuity is still highly questionable.
* Why is the film named ''Dr. Strangelove'' when the titular character is secondary at best? Because it's set in ''his'' world of nuclear warfare logic and stacks of ever-more-absurd contingency plans; the rest of the cast just live in it. Since he's the head of weapons development, he quite literally helped build the world the plot occurs in, and [[CrazySane he's the only one to which everything makes sense]]. Beyond that, he's not surprised or angered at the doomsday machine's construction--it makes sense to him, and he clearly enjoys saying how such a MAD thing works--the only thing that angers him is when the Soviets violate his nuclear deterrent logic by having a functional machine but not telling the world immediately. When the nuclear war becomes inevitable, the President and his officials listen to Dr. Strangelove's idea of how the survivors should live and what qualities the people living underground should possess.
* Dr. Strangelove's idea of a polyamorous world seems like a perverted fantasy, but polyamory was an actual component of Nazi ideology: the Nazis wanted their woman to have lots of kids so that their future empire would be teeming with Aryan children. His idea that the people fortunate enough to be allowed to live underground should have "desirable" traits is another subtle reference to the Nazi belief in eugenics. In trying to promote their ideologies through nuclear aggression, the Soviets and Americans set up the post-apocalyptic world to become a Nazi dystopia.
* It's easy to write off Guano as an imbecile, but consider things from his perspective:
** He and his soldiers have had to fight against a general gone rogue. And he's no fool in that department since he specifically admonishes Mandrake for assuming he went into battle with loose change, which is an actual battlefield tip.
** His claim of "pre-versions" makes sense since the nuclear war was started by a man who's become insecure about his sexual performance.
** He's supposedly a stubborn fool for not wanting to take change from a Coca-Cola machine, but trying to take money from a vending machine ''is'' theft, and he doesn't have a reason to believe this panicky British officer is in a "trying to save the world" kind of situation that would justify looting company money.

* With 93 years before the world is habitable again, and little to no time to prepare the settlement of the mines, it's unlikely that either side would be able to secure safe food stores and unirradiated humans with enough varied genetic stock for humanity to ultimately survive. While it's implied Strangelove has been planning elements of this, he has no clear ties to Ripper, and Kissov's delayed announcement of the doomsday device enrages Strangelove. It's likely he's got some of the groundwork set up, but not as much as he wanted.
