2	* At first it seems like an exercise in unnecessary sadism to have the transforming Wikus shoot one of the Prawns during weapons testing - but when you consider that the Prawns' weapons only activate when operated by Prawns, it makes sense to want to check that there is no additional failsafe in place that prevents these weapons from being used against the Prawns, especially when the weapon is being wielded by somebody who isn't quite a Prawn (yet)...
3	* Why does Obesandjo ask Wikus how he ended up with a Prawn arm when the official story that MNU are spinning is that Wikus had sex with a Prawn and contracted an STD? Because the man runs an "interspecies prostitution" racket, and is probably fully aware that having sex with a Prawn carries no known risk of a human turning into one of them. He knows that MNU are lying, and thus wants to know how Wikus ''really'' got the arm.
4	* On the subject of the interspecies prostitution ring, since Humans and Prawns most likely don't have compatible genitalia it's probably a huge scam. If any services are being exchanged, it's probably something "chaste" like little dates, mild touching, and sleepovers.

7	* The aliens are apparently hermaphrodites. Wikus's metamorphosis into a Prawn is a horrific and bloody experience, so imagine what that part of the transformation must have been like.
8	* The black fluid essentially serves as the fuel source for the mothership's command module; now recall that Christopher and his son gathered the black fluid for over 20 years and that the small drop we see them cultivate is the last bit they need to get the ship to fly them back home. Now recall that [[NiceJobBreakingItHero Wikus sprayed more than that on his face.]] Best case scenario, they have to drift to their home planet for the last leg of the journey. Worst case, [[FateWorseThanDeath the ship loses functionality in the depths of deep space...]]
9	* Wikus comes across as a huge asshole for hitting Christopher with a shovel, trying to abandon him, and go home. Until you look closely at the scene with Wikus' wife being interviewed in her bedroom. [[FreezeFrameBonus On the top left corner of the mirror is a sonogram]]. Wikus is so desperate to get home because his wife is pregnant and he wants to be there for his child.
10	* The District 9 shanty is a real placed called Chiawelo, a township in Johannesburg. [[https://www.theguardian.com/world/2009/sep/02/district-9-soweto-residents-exploitation People live there and they really are that poor.]]
11	* Why did the MNU scientists force Wikus to shoot a live prawn? They have plenty of dead pigs to spare. Maybe they simply wanted to see what it could do to a living thing and that was the closest thing they had, or were they trying to see if the alien technology was just as effective on prawns as it was on humans? And if that is true, to what end? Were MNU planning on wiping out the entire prawn population on Earth once they had the ability to use their technology? It's something one tends not to think about, but the thought is there.
12	* It's implied that the Prawns are not an invasion force, but just look at the weaponry they have on board. Taking it further, it's explicitly designed to only work for a Prawn operator, which could imply that there are other species out there the Prawns have clashed with in the past. Just what the ''hell'' have they been fighting?
