The second edition of the proposed {{live action adaptation}} trilogy released on July 31, 2013. Like its [[Film/TheSmurfs predecessor]], the movie is produced by Creator/SonyPicturesAnimation and distributed by Creator/ColumbiaPictures. [[Film/ScoobyDoo Raja]] [[Film/ScoobyDooMonstersUnleashed Gosnell]] also directed it.

Creator/HankAzaria, Creator/NeilPatrickHarris, and Creator/JaymaMays return as Gargamel, Patrick and Grace respectively, along with Creator/JonathanWinters, Music/KatyPerry, Fred Armisen, Creator/AlanCumming, Creator/AntonYelchin, George Lopez, Kenan Thompson, Creator/PaulReubens, John Oliver, Creator/TomKane, Creator/FrankWelker; basically everybody from the [[Film/TheSmurfs last film]] reprise[[note]]For the actors mentions in this paragraph: Papa, Smurfette, Brainy, Gutsy, Clumsy, Grouchy, Greedy, Jokey, Vanity, Narrator and Azrael[[/note]] their respective vocal roles, and Creator/ChristinaRicci, J.B. Smoove, Brendan Gleeson, Creator/ShaquilleONeal, Jimmy Kimmel and some others (What? We're not gonna name them all) also join the cast.

In the movie, Gargamel is filling venues around the world as a big-shot magician in our modern world. Unfortunately for the wizard, he's running out of Smurf essence for his shows so he creates Hackus and Vexy, a couple of evil Smurf-like creatures called "Naughties" in hopes to turn them into real Smurfs, only to discover Smurfette and Papa know the formula. So while the wizard preps for his UsefulNotes/{{Paris}} Opera House debut, he sends one of his creations into the land of the Smurfs to smurfnap Smurfette.

Speaking of which, while all the male Smurfs prepare to throw Smurfette a surprise birthday party back at Smurf Village, Smurfette wonders why she's the only female[[note]]ignoring Sassette, Clockwork Smurfette and Nanny Smurf, none of whom show up in the movie and may not exist in the movie's continuity[[/note]] while wandering through the woods when she's smurfnapped by Vexy and both rejoin Hackus and Gargamel, where Gargamel hopes to use the Eiffel Tower as an energy-generating antenna to finally return home.

Smurfette's kidnapping prompts Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy and Vanity to follow them back to the modern world and seek help from Patrick and Grace Winslow and their son Blue along with Patrick's stepfather.

This film is notable for being Creator/JonathanWinters' last acting role before his death.

Due to its performance in theaters, Sony decided to cancel the third movie in the trilogy and instead [[ContinuityReboot reboot the series]] as an all-CGI animated movie series with its next movie ''WesternAnimation/SmurfsTheLostVillage'' in 2017.

Now has a [[ShoutOut/TheSmurfs2 shout out]] page.
----
!!This film contains examples of:
* AbusiveParents: Gargamel mentions his father pushing him down the well, though if that really happened or if it's part of Gargamel's act of being nice to Smurfette so he can get what he wants is debatable.

* AdaptationalAttractiveness: Again, Hank Azaria as Gargamel.
* AllJustADream: [[spoiler:Smurfette turning (back) into a Naughty.]]
* AllPartOfTheShow: Blue thinks Victor's playing with him when (in order) Grouchy, Clumsy, Vanity and Papa show up at Patrick and Grace's apartment.
** Again when Gargamel turns Victor into a duck and was about to feed Patrick to a [[{{Sizeshifter}} large]] Azrael, Blue thought all of it's part of the show.
* AlternativeForeignThemeSong: The Japanese version features a theme song sung by Minami Takahashi, who voices Smurfette in the Japanese dub, called "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0cMG2RBlNM Hitomi no Tobira]]."
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: Patrick sees Victor as an embarrassing stepfather.
* AshFace:
** Brainy gets a face full of ash when he gets tricked into opening Smurfette's birthday card from Jokey.
** Jokey himself gets it at the end [[spoiler:when Hackus eats his present, which explodes in his stomach, resulting in him burping smoke into Jokey's face.]]
* AsideGlance: Along with {{breaking the fourth wall}}, Vanity tells the audience "as if" after telling Smurfette he's [[OutOfCharacterAlert tired of looking at himself]] while hiding the fact [[spoiler:all the Smurfs have a surprise birthday party for her.]]
* BecomeARealBoy: Gargamel wants Vexy and Hackus to become real Smurfs so he can extract their magical essence. Vexy, however, has other plans. Justified considering what he intended to do with her afterwards.
* BirthdayBeginning: The story takes place on Smurfette's birthday, and also on Blue Winslow's fourth birthday.
* BlondeBrunetteRedhead: Of Gargamel's three creations [[spoiler:that became Smurfs]], Smurfette (blonde), Vexy (brunette), and Hackus (redhead).
* BookcasePassage: Gargamel's dressing room mirror at the opera house leads to the dungeon where the Smurf Extractor is.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: Vanity does this twice, the first time is mentioned under {{aside glance}}. The second time is at the end, [[spoiler:when he bumps Smurf-Hackus off screen and gives a satisfying smirk to the audience.]]
* BulletTime: [[spoiler:A group of Smurfs go flying in slow motion after Naughty-turned-Smurfette uses the dragon wand on them in her dream.]]
* ByWallThatIsHoley: The three pedestrians crossing a street cower to the ground when they see the runaway Ferris wheel heading their way, waiting to be crushed only for a gap between the ride's carts to pass over them harmlessly.
* CallBack: In the first film, the Smurfs mention they don't miss Passive-Aggressive Smurf. He makes a cameo in this film voiced by Series/{{Jimmy Kimmel|Live}} to condescend Brainy.
* CaptainErsatz: The only difference between Vexy, a spunky, clever, tomboy created from Gargamel's formula who is evil and naughty [[spoiler:but eventually turned into a real Smurf by the same formula Papa used on Smurfette]], and the Hanna-Barbera cartoon character Sassette is wardrobe, hair color, physical age, and the fact that the male Smurflings created her.
* CatapultNightmare: [[spoiler:Smurfette after her nightmare.]]
* ChainOfPeople: Papa Smurf, Clumsy, Vanity, and Grouchy end up forming this to keep themselves from falling off the balcony of Gargamel's hotel suite.
* ClosestThingWeGot: Papa had planned on travelling to rescue Smurfette with Gutsy, Brainy and Hefty, but due to Clumsy's latest accident, he, Grouchy and Vanity get the teleportation crystals, forcing Papa to rely on them instead.
* CoughSnarkCough: Grouchy does this by saying "narcissist" after Papa Smurf introduces Vanity.
* CreatingLifeIsBad: After his attempt to use Smurfette as a weapon against the Smurfs has failed due to Papa Smurf turning her into a real Smurf, Gargamel later created the Naughties with the intention of turning them into Smurfs, so [[PoweredByAForsakenChild he could extract their essence to power his magic]], create more Naughties to turn into Smurfs, and ultimately gain enough power for world domination and total destruction of the Smurfs.
* CreativeClosingCredits: Once again, the comic Smurfs are shown moving and this time Gutsy, Hackus, and Vexy are in it.
* CoversAlwaysLie: The DVD menu and DVD box shows Brainy with Papa Smurf and the other Smurfs and the Naughties. However, in the film, he stays in the village and you don't see him until the very end of the film.
* DaddysLittleVillain: Smurfette is played up as this to her "father" Gargamel before her HeelFaceTurn, along with her "sister" Vexy, though to a lesser extent.
* DancePartyEnding: [[spoiler:When the Smurfs return to celebrate Smurfette's birthday.]]
* DangerousWindows: [[spoiler:When a magic blast from Smurfette's wand ricochets off the mirror and hits the door's window frame, the force of shattered glass sending the four Smurfs over the balcony the second time. Fortunately, Victor the duck saves them.]]
* {{Dedication}}: To Creator/JonathanWinters as mentioned in the end credits.
* DemotedToExtra: Brainy and Gutsy have minor roles compared to the first film.
* DiegeticSoundtrackUsage:
** The theme song is quite effective in getting a very reluctant Patrick Winslow to get his family and the Smurfs over to Paris.
** It also annoyed Vexy and Hackus [[spoiler:back when they were Naughties]].
** Used as a MockingSingSong by Smurfette and Vexy after tricking Azrael into falling in the mud puddle.
** Smurfette even forced Gargamel to sing it when they're at his suite.
** [[spoiler:Before Smurfette begins writing the formula]], Gargamel adds the "la la la" bit after he says "formula."
** Then at the end, [[spoiler:when the wand's out of control, Gargamel pings between two bells at Notre Dame that makes this effect.]]
* DistractedByMyOwnSexy: It doesn't take long for Vanity to be gazing at himself and be distracted by his own... uh, smurfiness after he comes out of the time portal in the Winslows' apartment.
* DontExplainTheJoke: Gargamel does he shows "La Wanda" for the first time:
--> "You get it? '[[CaptainObvious The Wand]]' . . ."
* DoubleAesop: As he reassures Papa Smurf that he counts as Smurfette's ''real'' father by being there for her when she needed a father figure, Patrick realizes the same thing applies to his stepfather Victor, who he earlier rejected.
* DreamWorksFace: The only characters that don't show it in this [[http://www.hdwallpapers.in/walls/the_smurfs_2_movie-wide.jpg poster]] are Grouchy and Hackus.
* {{Duck}}: Patrick Winslow tells his stepfather Victor Doyle to duck when Gargamel is about to attack them with his magic wand, and Victor ends up being turned into a duck, notably when Gargamel says "duck" right when using said wand.
* EasilyForgiven: Smurfette's supposed "betrayal" is forgiven by Papa Smurf.
* EatTheCamera: A transition starts with the camera zooming into a Smurf's mouth and changes to it zooming out of Smurfette's mouth as she's calling for help.
* EiffelTowerEffect: Gargamel shoots magic on top of it.
* EvilLaugh: The Naughty-Smurfette. Gargamel and Azrael as well.
* ExactWords: When the Naughties asked Gargamel about how much it'd hurt to have their essence removed once they became Smurfs, he said it'd be painless. For ''him''.
* ExtremeOmnivore: Though in the case of [[spoiler:Smurf-turned Hackus]], it's more like shoving Jokey's surprise present into his mouth and swallowing it whole.
* ExtremelyShortTimespan: Excluding the prologue and Smurfette's nightmare at the start, the whole movie takes place throughout one entire day.
* EyeAwaken: Smurfette when she first appears in the form of a Naughty created by Gargamel.
* EyeContactAsProof: Patrick's stepfather Victor turns into a duck because Gargamel the wizard accidentally zapped him. When Patrick insults Victor, he says, "Look me in the eye and say that." Patrick replies, "I can't." Victor says, "See? Because it's not true!" and Patrick says, "No, I can't because your eyes are ''[[SuddenlyShouting on the sides of your head!]]''"
* FacePalm: After Clumsy accidentally bonks into Papa who shoves the nine crystals in Hefty's mouth who begins to choke, a Smurf (Grouchy?) in the background is seen doing this.
* {{Fainting}}: Vanity, with hand on temple and whimper!
* FalseFriend: Vexy befriends Smurfette with the intent of tempting her into [[spoiler:giving Gargamel the magic formula for changing Naughties into Smurfs.]]
* FantasticDietRequirement: The Naughties need to drink a few drops of "Smurf essence" (a liquid harvested from the sweat, tears, and hair of Smurfs) or else they will get dizzy and weak and eventually die. This becomes a plot point when Gargamel refuses to give them any Smurf essence until Smurfette gives him the formula to turn them into real Smurfs.
%%* FatAndProud: Greedy Smurf.
* AFatherToHisMen: Again, Papa Smurf treats his little Smurfs like his family, and notably Smurfette like his daughter.
* FerrisWheelOfDoom: Smurfette creates one by using her magic wand, causing it roll off its supports and through the streets of Paris. It barely comes close to crushing some tourists when they walk into its path, but [[ByWallThatIsHoley they escape by being between two cars as it passes over them]].
* ForcedTransformation:
** Patrick Winslow's stepfather becomes a duck, though he makes the best of his situation as one, which leads to a punny moment:
--->'''''Vanity:''''' Victor, you look ''fowl''.
** Earlier in the film, Gargamel turns an audience member into a large amphibian.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: [[spoiler:The Smurf-size wand in Smurfette's dream at the beginning of the film. Guess what she gets from Gargamel for a present?]] That leads to [[spoiler:Smurfette's warning about using it against him, which she does in the end]].
* ForgottenBirthday: Smurfette's, though it turns out it was only made to look like this because her fellow Smurfs wanted her birthday party to be a surprise.
* FunnyBackgroundEvent: A Smurf is seen jumping over what appears to be a fountain for cover when he witnesses [[spoiler:Hackus]] gulping the present given by Jokey.
* FurnitureBlockade: When everything in the Winslow's apartment begins to move around, Patrick and Grace try to get to their son who's playing with his grandfather in the other room in order to secure his safety but are trapped because a table barricades the door, preventing them getting to Blue.
* FurryReminder: Azrael playing with the green dot after opening a present for him.
* GetARoom: "Get a shroom!" is said by Grouchy when he sees the Winslows getting so close with each other and [[EverythingSoundsSexierInFrench talking French]].
* GettingTheBoot: Brainy [[spoiler:gets one by Hackus at the end of the movie.]]
* {{Goth}}: Vexy is a Smurf-variant.
* GroinAttack
** Gutsy says that he wants to whack the Gargamel pinata "right in the smurfberries".
** Hackus lands hard hurting his crotch, and he ends up moaning, "Hackus real boy."
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:The Naughties, after they become Smurfs]].
* ILied: [[spoiler:When Gargamel was about to push the button of the device he created to rob the Smurfs of their essence and he remembered he'd promised to allow Azrael to do it]].
* ImpactSilhouette: [[spoiler:Gargamel and Azrael make one as they land on the roof of their house after they return back to the past through the portal.]]
* ImprovisedParachute: Again, the Smurfs use their hats as parachutes.
* JumpScare: InUniverse, when Victor gets spooked by Grouchy popping out of the wagon, wearing Victor's corndog puppet.
* LampshadeHanging: Vanity does this ''[[RuleOfThree three times]]'' in a row:
** The first time is in Smurfette's dream when she leaps into a pond and comes out with dry hair to which Vanity asks "how her hair is still dry?"
** The second time when Grouchy, Vanity, Papa and Clumsy gain entry into Gargamel's dressing room via the window above the door, the narcissist points out the fact they're going through said window instead of reaching for the doorknob.
** The last time is mentioning the fact the waiter was scared by "little blue people" after he scares the sap.
** Smurfette does this when [[spoiler:receiving a Smurf size dragon wand]] from Gargamel.
* LetsGetDangerous: Again, Patrick with a fire poker and his band of Smurfs. Your argument is invalid.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: Building on their friendship in the previous film, when Grace [[spoiler:reunites with Smurfette and Smurfette introduces Vexy as her sister, Grace observes that this makes Vexy ''her'' sister as well]].
* LogoJoke: Each logo has something shade of blue. In order:
** Columbia Pictures' has the torch lady's shawl being Smurf blue rather than dark blue and the chiseled font spelling out "COLUMBIA" above her is in a shade of dark blue followed by a Smurf hat flying in view, wiping out Columbia's logo.
** Said flying Smurf hat lands on the 'A' of "Sony Picture Animations" after the words scramble into place.
** The Kerner Entertainment logo still has the sepia tint but the fireworks are blue with Papa on the left along with Smurfette and a Smurf (some say Clumsy) on the right, watching the fireworks with the child and parent/guardian.
* LuckBasedSearchTechnique: Grouchy asks if any Smurf wants a cup of Joe before face planting right into a wall, his nose hitting the button concealing a hidden passage to where Gargamel keeps the Smurf essence extractor.
* MagiciansAreWizards: Since being stranded at the end of the last movie, Gargamel has used his magic to become a successful stage magician.
* MamaBear: Hard to see, but Grace shields herself in front of Blue when Gargamel confronts the four humans after Victor and Patrick foiled his plans.
* MeanwhileInTheFuture: Some scenes cuts between the medieval forest period of the Smurf Village and the modern-day period in the early part of the movie to establish what's going on with Gargamel and the Winslows since we have last seen them.
* MeetingTheParentsSequel: Patrick's stepdad comes for a visit.
* MissedHimByThatMuch: Vanity, Clumsy, Papa and Grouchy made it into Gargamel's dressing room right ''after'' Smurfette made her escape with Vexy and Hackus in pursuit.
** Gargamel ''just'' missed Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy and Vanity closing the mirror concealing the hidden room to the Smurf Essence extractor.
** If [[NiceJobBreakingItHero Vanity]] suggest hiding from the waiter who brought Gargamel his food into the suite and not decide to spook him, the man wouldn't pushed the cart toward the open doors, the force wouldn't made the Smurfs fall into the food and struggle out of it, thus barely falling to their deaths from going over the balcony, struggle to safety '''only''' for Smurfette to swoop inside on the storks both she, Vexy and Hackus were riding, closing the doors on them.
* MockingSingSong: The [[DiegeticSoundtrackUsage Smurfs theme song]] is used by Smurfette and Vexy in this fashion when they mock Azrael's failure to catch them.
* {{Mooning}}: When Patrick says "Is a Smurf's butt blue," Grouchy is seen bending over and preparing to flash his own butt, saying "You tell me."
** And this is coming from the same Smurf who in the previous movie taunted Patrick Winslow with "[[ParentheticalSwearing kiss my smurf]]."
*** There would have been a "[[{{Pun}} blue moon]]" in this film as well if Grouchy was allowed to pull it off.
* MythologyGag:
** When Vexy arrives in the village, Gutsy's heard saying "She's a sassy one!" in the background. Vexy's character is suspiciously similar to the character Sassette from the animated series, though "sassy" wasn't meant to be a compliment when Sassette was first introduced.
** How do the Smurfs get to the modern-day world and back this time? Time-travel crystals, similar to the ones used in Season 9, though this time the crystals are edible. And five of the Smurfs who were in the episodes (Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Clumsy, Grouchy, and Vanity) are the ones who use the crystals. (This would have been four if Brainy and Hefty received the crystals instead.) They even get hurled out upon arrival the same way that they did from the time whirlwind.
** And also from the Season 9 episodes, Clumsy tries to perform karate as he enters Gargamel's dressing room.
** When meeting Blue, Grouchy says "I wouldn't want to be the stork that brought that guy." As confirmed in the comics and the Creator/HannaBarbera cartoon, all male Smurfs are [[DeliveryStork brought by storks]].
** Victor calls Papa "SantaClaus," which he was referred to in the [[WesternAnimation/TheSmurfs '80s cartoon]] as well as [[Film/TheSmurfs Patrick]] himself.
** Vanity spotting Azrael in his mirror happened to [[WesternAnimation/TheSmurfs his cartoon counterpart]] spotting not only Azrael but Gargamel as well in his mirror a few times like in "''Hopping-Cough Smurfs''" and "''Painter and Poet''."
** The Naughties are somewhat similar to the Swoofs.
* NeverTrustATrailer: The first trailer shows Gutsy and . . . some Smurf going through the portal with Vanity and Papa, it should be Grouchy and Clumsy hence they went to the modern world to get Smurfette.
** Patrick never says "I'm just smurfin' with ya" and winks followed by Vanity's "that's an excellent impression" after Creator/NeilPatrickHarris says "Smurfs" in intimidation of Gargamel's voice as seen in another trailer.
** One quick scene showed Clumsy using a wand against Gargamel. It's reused footage from the ''first'' film.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero:
** While every Smurf is acting natural while concealing Smurfette's surprise party, a few decide to shun her starting with Farmer telling her they occasionally needing alone time followed by Grouchy's 'go take a hike' and Brainy's 'we don't need you' comments topped with Handy's 'see ya!' response. Because Smurfette was having identity issues due to being Gargamel's creation and doubting if she's a real Smurf, this leads her to wander through the forest and promptly get kidnapped.
** If Vanity suggested hiding from the waiter instead of spooking him, they wouldn't have missed Smurfette and not be falling over the balcony, twice.
*** Vanity wouldn't come up with the idea if Clumsy hadn't decided to take off the lid of the platter, knocking the poor sap off his feet.
** If Victor listened to Patrick and stayed at the hotel room when Patrick and the Smurfs went to the opera house, he wouldn't have been turned into a duck in the first place.
** Although he meant well by bringing Patrick the supposed security key pass for the elevator, if Victor (who's still a duck) looked at the card laying on the floor and saw it was the hotel key, he wouldn't have been mistaken by a chef for an escaped duck, forcing Patrick to abandon the Smurfs.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: When Vexy and Hackus tried to use ThePowerOfFriendship on Smurfette to try to get her on their side, [[spoiler:it works, all right. [[HeelFaceTurn Just not the way they thought it would, but it worked out all right anyway]]]].
** Smurfette [[LampshadeHanging even warns]] Gargamel of this [[spoiler:when he tries to bribe her by giving her a magic wand]].
-->'''''Smurfette:''''' [[spoiler:How do you know I won't use it on ''you?'']]
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: When Victor arrives at Blue's birthday party, he begins hugging the other parents without permission to which they look uncomfortable. Patrick even says "boundaries, please boundaries" before Victor hugs him.
* NotInTheFace: Voiced by Vanity as he jumps under the platter lid for protection from Azrael, who pounces for the vain Smurf only to be swooped inside by the storks.
* {{Novelization}}: Yep.
* OhCrap:
** The look on the parents' faces whose kid is allergic to peanuts when they learn that the corndogs Victor handed out had refried peanut oil . . . to which said kid took a bite and begins making this choking noise.
** Clumsy when he sees they're about to go over the balcony after the waiter pushes the tray toward the opened doors when he got spooked by their presence.
---> "Window! Window! Window!"
*** After pulling themselves safely back on the balcony, Vanity says "I look like something the cat dragged in" to which Papa, Clumsy and Grouchy scream. It takes Vanity one look at his mirror to see Azrael's reflection to let the narcissist Smurf know the cat's behind him does he follow suit.
** As he's dangling from the Eiffel Tower, the wizard watches a mere speck of Smurf Essence land in a crate of fireworks below his feet:
--->'''''Gargamel:''''' [[{{Understatement}} This is really gonna hurt . . .]]
** Azrael gets this twice:
*** The first time when the glass containing the Smurf Essence begins to break.
*** The second time when the cat begins to walk off where Gargamel disappeared into the portal, only for Gargamel to shoot a tendril of magic and grab the cat and begins dragging a struggling Azrael in.
** Speaking of the Smurf Extractor's glass breaking, Patrick lets out an "uh-oh" when he noticed the machine's about to blow.
* OhMyGods: Vanity says "Great Smurf in heaven" to Grouchy after he farts in the sink while bathing.
* OutOfFocus: Clumsy is less prominent in this film, despite tagging along with the main Smurfs.
* PapaWolf: Papa Smurf once again. [[spoiler: In one scene he desperately tries to climb up a door in order to get to Smurfette, and it takes the combined efforts of Clumsy, Grouchy and Vanity to stop him]].
** Patrick places himself in front of Blue when Gargamel blasts them, and in the same scene Victor (who, bear in mind, has been turned into a duck) flies in Gargamel's face in order to protect Patrick.
* ParentalAbandonment: Patrick's father [[DisappearedDad left him and his mother]] when he was very young.
** The whole movie seems to play on the abandonment theme, as Smurfette thinks she's being abandoned by her adopted family and Gargamel tries to make her believe that he and his Naughties are her true family.
* ParentalBonus: Most kids may not understand the scene where Azrael purposely closes the sliding sunroof on Gargamel's throat, forcing him to choke and a following scene shows his legs flailing off the ground, [[spoiler:as if he's hanging with a rope around his neck.]]
* PietaPlagiarism: [[spoiler:Smurfette does this to Vexy.]]
* PortalPool: Gargamel opens up one near the Eiffel Tower in Paris in order to kidnap Smurfette, but since it's too small for him to go through, he sends Vexy through the portal to get her. [[spoiler:He creates another near the end of the movie through which he and Azrael travel back home to the past.]]
* PoweredByAForsakenChild: Again, Gargamel's magic, which requires Smurf essence.
* PunctuatedForEmphasis: While Victor's hugging Patrick:
-->'''''Patrick:''''' I! Don't! Like! This! At! All!
* ReactiveContinuousScream: Victor, twice in a row:
** The first time he's scared by the screaming Grouchy, who somehow got himself in that corn dog puppet.
** The second time is after Clumsy knocks Victor off his feet from coming out of the portal and the man screams seeing this [[FridgeBrilliance strange blue creature talking to him]] to which said creature screams back.
* ARottenTimeToRevert: After getting zapped by Gargamel, Victor becomes a [[TalkingAnimal talking duck]]. Unfortunately for him, when Victor finally turns back to a human, he's in mid-flight at the time, so he ends up plummeting from the sky ([[ShapeshiftingExcludesClothing stark naked]]). Thankfully, he doesn't fall from a fatal altitude, and he has the good fortune to land in a laundry hamper.
* RunningGag: Narrator trying to, well, narrate but keeps getting interrupted.
* SadisticChoice: Gargamel gives Smurfette a choice [[spoiler:to either give him the magic formula or let Vexy and Hackus die from lack of Smurf essence.]]
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: Gargamel [[spoiler:near the end of the movie when La Wanda goes out of control and he gets snagged by a gargoyle that comes to life.]]
** The waiter that gets scared off by Vanity.
* ShipTease: Grouchy seems quite taken with Vexy when he meets her.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Just like the previous movie, this is averted as there are three important female characters in the movie.
* StockholmSyndrome: Grouchy claims Smurfette's bonding with the Naughties is "a classic case of Smurfholm Syndrome".
* SongParody: Right Said Fred did a Smurf-related parody of their own song "I'm Too Sexy" called "I'm Too Smurfy" for the movie's soundtrack album.
* SoProudOfYou: Papa Smurf shows this to Smurfette [[spoiler:when, instead of using the formula that made her into a Smurf to betray the Smurfs, she uses it to save the Naughties who have become her friends.]]
* SpeechImpairedAnimal: Again, Azrael, [[spoiler:particularly at the end when he tries to say, "So long, sucker."]]
* SpontaneousChoreography: The Smurfs at the end during Smurfette's party (example being the Smurfs spinning at line 'spin me around just the way I like' despite never hearing the song before).
* StaircaseTumble: Papa Smurf, Clumsy, Grouchy, and Vanity take one after they enter Gargamel's dressing room, leading to the discovery of the underground lair with the Smurfalator.
* StealthPun: The Smurfs conjured up a blue moon in the previous movie in order to get home. Guess what Grouchy tries to conjure up?
* TheStinger: Two:
** Mid-credits: Gargamel and Azrael get sucked into the portal and taken back to their home.
** Post-credits: The two get in an argument, resulting in Azrael pouncing on Gargamel.
* StoryBookOpening: Narrator uses a pop-up book to tell the story of how Smurfette came to be at the beginning of the movie.
* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: The parents of the kid who has peanut allergies demanding that he spit out the corn dog that has refried peanut oil and Grace calling paramedics.
* TaintedVeins: [[spoiler:Vexy and Hackus start to show veins when they are dying from lack of Smurf essence.]]
* TakeOverTheWorld: Gargamel.
* ThirdPersonPerson: Hackus.
* TimeSkip: Judging from the candles on Blue's birthday cake, four years have passed at least in the modern world. It's never stated if four years have also passed for the Smurfs . . . in fact, a few days or a little over a year could've passed since the first movie.
* ToiletHumor: Hackus burping.
** Also Grouchy letting out farts while he is bathing in the sink with his fellow Smurfs.
* TooDumbToLive: Yes Victor, it was a '''very''' good idea demanding a crazed fruit loop that is Gargamel wielding a magic wand and his [[{{Sizeshifter}} magically-enlarged kitty]] to hand over Smurfette.
** The three pedestrians crossing a street see a runaway Ferris wheel heading their way. Instead of running from the behemoth of a ride, they cower to the ground in its path. Fortunately they are saved ByWallThatIsHoley.
* TookALevelInJerkass: Patrick compared to the previous movie.
* ToxicFriendInfluence: Vexy and Hackus towards Smurfette, [[spoiler: though near the end, Smurfette shows kindness toward Vexy and Hackus by saving them.]]
* TrailersAlwaysLie: [[spoiler:Smurfette doesn't turn into a black haired, pale skinned Naughty, except in a dream.]]
* TrailersAlwaysSpoil: One TV commercial quickly [[spoiler:showed Vexy as a Smurf and [[ForegoneConclusion no doubt]] Hackus is now a Smurf as well.]]
** Since ''The Smurfs 2'' junior novelization and ''[[VideoGame/TheSmurfs2 The Smurfs 2 Video Game]]'' came out before the movie, [[spoiler:it spoils both Naughties becoming Smurfs]].
** Subverted with [[spoiler:Smurfette becoming a Naughty, hence it being {{all just a dream}}.]]
* TraumaticHaircut: When Gargamel fails to get the formula to turn his Naughties into real Smurfs, he instead cuts Smurfette's hair to brew into magic essence and threatens to keep "harvesting" her unless she gives him the formula.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight:
** People don't seem to notice Patrick arguing with his duck transformed stepfather . . . except for the couple who Victor tells "What are you looking at? . . . It's global warming, buy a Prius!"
** The fact people on the streets don't notice two grayish-tan beings chasing after a blue creature looking just like them.
** When Smurfette and the Naughties enter the candy store, people just treat them as ordinary pest animals.
** The chef (who spoke English) mistaking Victor for an escaped duck, doesn't register that said duck is ''speaking'' to him.
* UnlikelyHero: Papa ''planned'' on bringing Gutsy, Brainy and Hefty on the trip, as he would need "courage, intelligence and strength." Instead, thanks to a [[NiceJobBreakingItHero mishap]], he gets the far less heroic trio of Grouchy, Vanity and Clumsy.
* VerbalTic: Hackus having his tongue hanging out.
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Gargamel.
* WatchOutForThatTree: Although we don't see it, but we hear duck-transformed Victor crash into the Winslow's hotel room window since he couldn't go through the lobby, forcing him to fly.
* WaterIsDry: [[spoiler:Lampshaded by Clumsy in the dream where]] Smurfette dives into a pond and comes out with her hair dry.
* TheWebAlwaysExisted: Suggested in this movie that the Web existed as far back as medieval Europe, with Social Smurf talking about a social network called [[Website/{{Facebook}} Smurfbook]].
* WhyDontYouJustShootHim: Gargamel coulda won if he just vaporized the four humans and the Smurfs with the wand when he had the chance once his plans failed instead of yammering, thus buying [[spoiler:Vexy enough time to see the mini dragon wand lying on the ground and warn Smurfette, who uses it]] to send him flying. But Gargamel, being [[LargeHam Gargamel]], predictably fails.
* WoundedGazelleGambit: Vexy does this toward Smurfette by saying she escaped Gargamel's clutches in order for the latter to trick the former through the portal.
