!! Physical Descriptions

Aron are small, round Steel/Rock-type Pokemon, standing a few inches over a foot on average, despite their average weight of 60 kilos, although a very small population of Aron weigh 120 kilos. They have blue eyes and a spike jutting on top of their backs. Their bodies are covered in a thick metal armor everywhere except their dark grey undersides, and the armor itself has small openings for respiration and sight.

Lairon, the second form of this species, are larger, standing at nearly three feet and weighing twice as much as their previous form. They have spiky backs, two teeth in their bottom jaw, and are also far less round than an Aron, with distinct body parts. Sharing the same coloration as Aron, they have openings running in parallel on each side of their spiky ridges.

Aggron, the final form, are bipedal, standing at nearly seven feet tall and weighing 360 kilos, with two white horns that grow longer with age, as well as a powerful tail. Their openings only exist for sight, smell, and to accommodate their massive horns. Some Aggron, tip (or rather, crush) the scales at over 720 kilos.

!! Notable Biology

Aron are a fairly ubiquitous species of Steel-type Pokémon that live mainly in mountains and caves within Hoenn, with smaller populations inhabiting Sinnoh. Due to their placement at the bottom of the mountain food chain, they tend to be eaten by just about every mountain predator. This is important, as Aron can very quickly eat out their area's metal deposits if left unchecked.

When Aron evolve, they shed their armor, which can be taken by humans to use as armor or scrap metal. In the absence of humans, the newly shed shell is eaten by the newly evolved Lairon for nutrients. The Lairon will then move to a mineral water spring, which it then claims as its territory.

Aggron are very long-lived, often living up to 100 years and gaining horns that are up to three feet long. These horns are often used to break through bedrock while searching for iron ore. They are also helpful to the environment, as they help restore their mountain territories after landslides or fires, as a sort of antithesis to the similarly aggressive [[{{FanonPokedex/Larvitar}} Tyranitar.]]

The Aron and Larvitar lines are natural rivals, as both Aggron and Tyranitar are very territorial, though Aggron will win most fights due to its type advantage. However, Tyranitar's natural ferocity and ability to use Earthquake can sometimes alter the battle in its favor. Luckily, the ranges of these two extremely aggressive Pokémon rarely overlap, with the exception of western Sinnoh, but when they do meet, the battles can be of cataclysmic proportions, especially if the Tyranitar wins. However, Aggron are rarely defeated by them, and the cataclysm is usually short-lived and followed by a period of peace, and sometimes even a good harvest.

!! Habitat

Most members of the Aron line live in or on mountains and caves in Hoenn and Sinnoh, with Aggron claiming an entire mountain as their territory. There is also a small population of Aron and Lairon that has been introduced to the Johto Safari Zone. Recently the Aron Line has made it to Unova, where they have established themselves within Misralton Cave and the Clay Road. In Kalos, they can be found on Route 18 and within the Terminus Cave. Aron and Lairon tend to live closest to the mineral veins, whereas Aggron are found either patrolling the mountainside or digging for iron deep under the earth. A common feature of prime Aron line habitat is the presence of large amounts of iron ore deposits and springs of mineral water, both being important for the maintenance of their ferrous bodies. If food becomes scarce, however, they are known to leave to look for other sources of metal, leading to confrontations with humans.

!! Diet
All members of the Aron line eat iron and iron ore and drink mineral water to strengthen their shells and keep them hard. It doesn't really matter where the iron comes from, and Aggron especially is willing to hunt other Steel-types to acquire it. They will eat other metals, but prefer iron as it is the best for their health. If it is hard to obtain pure iron, Trainers can feed their Pokémon special iron-rich Pokéfood. If times are really hard, stories of Lairon and Aggron cannibalizing Aron and hunting other Steel-types are uncommon but not unheard of. These cases have decreased since the advent of the Industrial Revolution, with reports of cannibalism only being reported in the most remote parts of their range.

!! Hazards
Aron will eat anything iron that they come across, making them pests in mountain settlements due to their habit of eating bridges and railroads. In one case, a strip-mining operation that removed most of the iron ore off of a mountain caused most of the local Aron population to go down to the town and eat everything metal there, from silverware to entire vehicles. For that reason, it is a good idea to keep your Aron well fed and in your sight at all times when you're in a city. Luckily, Aron are mostly docile and aren't much of a threat to humans, though a significantly angered one can knock over a dump truck and then eat it.

Lairon, on the other hand, are much stronger than Aron, territorial, and often make their homes near veins of iron ore, leading to direct conflict with humans looking to mine. Lairon are fairly powerful Pokémon, with a bone-crushing bite and very high defense. For this reason, it is advised to bring strong Ground Pokémon, such as [[{{FanonPokedex/Onix}} Onix]], [[{{FanonPokedex/Gible}} Garchomp]], or Dugtrio while exploring a cave.

Aggron are even more territorial, attacking anything they perceive to be a threat or competition, and being one of the few Pokémon capable of taking on a wild Tyranitar in a pure strength battle. Upon seeing a potential threat, they will shed their armor, charge their real or imagined competition with [[LightningBruiser surprising speed for their size]], and then proceed to [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown beat their opponent into submission,]] often goring it with its horns or crushing it under its tail. At least a few people die every year from being killed by Aggron in various mountain ranges throughout the world. This is often because they are attacked faster than they can pull out a Pokémon to defend themselves, as they often attack from behind. [Trainer's Note: For this reason, if you are approached by a wild Aggron, do your best to appear as nonthreatening as possible and move slowly backwards, paying attention to its vocalizations. Once it turns around, move as quickly as possible away from the Pokémon.]

While you can train your Lairon or Aggron out of this habit, they will often consider you as part of their territory, and will attack anyone who they percieve as a threat to you if improperly trained.

!! Courting and Parental Care

Aggron see one another so infrequently that the first instinct upon seeing an Aggron of the opposite gender is to mate. As for Lairon, they tend to fight for the right to mate in rather violent ritual combat. After that, the female Lairon or Aggron will wedge their eggs inside iron ore deposits and then leave them to their own devices for the most part.

These eggs are very hard externally, which discourages most predators from attempting to eat them. That, and if the mother Lairon or Aggron happens to be in the area, she will attack the nest thieves without a second thought. When the eggs hatch, the hatchling Aron immediately start eating the iron ore around them, being careful not to become food for a Gible or Gabite in Sinnoh, or Mawile in Hoenn. Trainers can score an easy Pokémon just by pulling an egg out of the ore, provided the mother isn't around.

!! Social Structure
Aron have no true grouping instincts, but can be found in large groups around particularly large iron deposits. Lairon are solitary and territorial, but are not too far away from other Lairon. Aggron, however, are the most solitary, with a ratio of one Aggron per three mountains.
