* Synopsis: Five-and-a-half millennia after leaving their home galaxy, the crew of the city-sized seeding ship Iluvátar reach their goal - a sunless primordial planet, waiting to be turned into a new homeworld. But Chief Engineer Melkor has his own designs for "Arda Project", and his megalomania threatens to doom them all...
* Comments: It's a gripping retelling of the first 3 chapters of the Silmarillion as a Sci-fi Dramedy, told from the perspective of the Valar, chief science officers on the Iluvátar in this incarnation. The author is very on the ball with the lore, deviations of course happen but they fit the story and tailored narrative. At worst there's few spelling and grammar errors and very rarely a inconsistent description, but what fic is perfect, right? Highly recommend.

* Recommended by: @/BattleHamster, @/SRWFan
* Status: Dead
* Synopsis: ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin - a script version of "The Lay of Leithian." The first act is Beren and Lúthien dealing with her parents in Menegroth; the second is Beren in Nargothrond; the third is Lúthien in Nargothrond; and the fourth is everyone - and I mean everyone - in the Halls of Mandos.
* Comments: This manages be hilarious and moving at the same time. The writer shows her work in the Tolkienverse and elsewhere, and the result in amazing. The characters and everything are very well developed. The one problem is that it's sadly unfinished and hard to find.

* Comments: A charming comic romp with melancholy undertones at certain points. The use of Finarfin – pompous, clueless and yet still sympathetic – as a narrator is a delight, particularly with the unorthodox Oropher running rings around him at every opportunity. 186* Status: Ongoing
* Synopsis: What if Sauron had not fled? In which Sauron takes Eonwe's advice and returns to Valinor to face judgment for his deeds.
* Comments: If you think that Sauron is an Evil Overlord in the purest sense of the trope, then you would be absolutely correct... by the end of the Third Age. Because that is what he became after his obsession with control and order morphed into hatred and tyranny. However, Sauron is not as simple as he seems: he was not one of the original followers of the song of discord and only joined Melkor after he grew convinced that the mightiest of the Ainur could provide him the power to bring order to the world. As we all know, he turned into the right hand of Morgoth and did terrible things before the latter departed the world and that departure, for the briefest of times, caused Sauron to repent at the feet of Eonwe. Of course he did not follow through with that out of pride but... what if he actually did? Would the Valar have provided the fallen Maia with the tools and the space necessary for him to observe the consequences of his actions and to heal from Morgoth's poisonous influence? This fic explores that possibility while not making Sauron a good guy from the get go (in fact, his motives for repenting were selfish and his thoughts are, as of writing this review, still very spiteful, ungrateful and paranoid) and showing us in full the objectively terrible actions he committed under Morgoth. But more than that, despite being AU, it serves as a very fleshed-out exploration of Sauron's mind. If you are a Tolkien fan and find yourself intrigued by this mysterious and deceptively complicated character, then I can't recommend it enough.

* Status: Complete
* Synopsis: A non-canon story, though it fits into the canon, about how Lúthien really stole the Silmaril from Morgoth. Only makes any sense if you've read the Silmarillion. It explores the character of Morgoth, who the author calls Tolkien's 'fallen angel', and the character of Lúthien.
* Pairing: Lúthien and Morgoth (not as weird as it sounds)
* Comments: The writing is marvelous, far, far about normal fanfic standards, and it's just one chapter. There is sexual content, but nothing explicit. I recommend it as a piece that gives a different view of the villain, as well as being delicately and elegantly done. Very sad; i cried, though perhaps I'm just sentimental.
** YMMV here: The writing is good, if occasionally maudlin, but I'm not sure if I'd call it marvelous. The...foreplay, I suppose it could be called, is rather detailed. I'm not entirely sure if I would call it "delicate," although "elegant" might fit, and it seemed like the writer was fitting out Morgoth for leather pants.

* Status: Complete (Part 1)
* Synopsis: "He has dwelt in the west since the days of dawn, and I have dwelt with him years uncounted; for ere the fall of Nargothrond or Gondolin I passed over the mountains, and together through ages of the world we have fought the long defeat." This is the real story behind Middle-earth's longest and most enduring marriage, that of the Lord and Lady of the Galadhrim.
* Pairings: Galadriel/Celeborn, with others such as Lúthien/Beren sprinkled in.
* Comments: Epic doesn't even begin to describe this vast, novel-length fanfiction. 40 chapters, over 512,000 words, it spans hundreds of years during the First Age and this is only Part 1 of 3. The author intends to complete two more sequels taking the reader all the way up to the end of the Third Age and the War of the Ring. The sheer level of dedication, skill, attention to detail, character building and storytelling ability that has been poured into this work is truly astounding. The story remains completely canonical to the dates and events portrayed by Tolkien in Literature/TheSilmarillion, Unfinished Tales and Literature/TheLordOfTheRings but fills in the many, many gaps that surround Galadriel and Celeborn's courtship and marriage, with a sharp focus on the politics of Elven culture and the coming together of the Noldor and the Sindar.

* Pairings: Lalwen/Thranduil
* Comments: Takes two characters about whom very little is known (Lalwen and Thranduil's wife) and combines them. The result is truly amazing.
