''Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.''

''Literature/ParadiseLost'' by John Milton
* Recommended by {{Salnax1}}, {{Jordan}}, @/{{Narsil}}
* ''Status'': Complete
* ''Synopsis'': Satan, having recently lost in his rebellion, organizes his followers and plans the downfall of God's newest creation: Adam and Eve. Drama ensues.
* ''Comments'': One of the better-known fanfics out there, Paradise Lost is most notable for its style and characterization. Like ''Literature/TheAeneid'', another influential fanfic, it is written as an epic poem. The descriptions of people, events, and places are excellent, though they are perhaps too descriptive. Satan, Adam, and Eve are remarkably fleshed out, and are given realistic motives and feelings.

''Literature/LambTheGospelAccordingToBiff'' by Creator/ChristopherMoore
* Recommended by @/{{Sessalisk}}
* ''Status'': Complete
* ''Synopsis'': The years of Jesus Christ's life that were not covered in ''Literature/TheBible''.

''Literature/TheRedTent'' by Anita Diamant
* Recommended by: {{Tropers/Narsil}}
* ''Status'': Complete
* ''Synopsis:'' The life of Dinah (a daughter of the Genesis patriarch Jacob), from her childhood with Jacob's wives and other children, through her tragic romance with Shechem, to her (extra-biblical) later life in Egypt

''Literature/TheDivineComedy'' by Dante Alighieri
* Recommended by {{Tropers/Divra}}
* ''Status'': Complete
* Synopsis: A self-insert fic, where the author takes a tour through the setting, guided by a childhood paragon of his.
* Comments: Also, like the previously mentioned ''Literature/ParadiseLost'', written in poetry form. It does very little to expand upon the main characters, but fleshes out the setting in wonderful ways, which is something fans will appreciate. It also tucks in some pointed jabs at well-known haters and fans of the original appear as minor characters. Has contributed a lot to popular perception of the original. A bit wonky to read, because of the format, but well worth it.

''Literature/GoodOmens'' by Creator/NeilGaiman and Creator/TerryPratchett
* Recommended by Tropers/TimeLordVictorious, {{@/EnochianMoloch}}
* ''Status'': Complete
* Synopsis: In which the antichrist is switched at birth, the Four Horsemen are bikers, and an angel and a demon decide that they like Earth too much to let the Apocalypse happen.
* Comments: Probably the funniest Bible fanfic out there, centered around Revelations/The End Times/Biblical Apocalypse. Get a copy and read it if you haven't already.
** Seconding this—this book was an immediate addition to the Hall of Fame bookshelf. Don’t come here expecting a DarkFic or serious take. Despite the subject matter, this CrackFic never gets dark or upsetting; it keeps its lighthearted, surreal, irreverent tone throughout. With a cast of fascinating original characters (and new takes on canon characters) and compelling character dynamics to hook you, it’s sure to be quite the memorable read. And in the end, for all its satire and artistic liberties, it somehow still demonstrates the authors’ understanding of the original work’s core themes. Absolutely well worth the read—just don’t blame Website/TVTropes when you’re in the middle of something important and can’t put the book down.

Literature/LowlandsOfScotlandSeries by Liz Curtis Higgs
* Recommended by: @/{{Nocturna}}
* ''Status'': Complete
* Synopsis: The tale of Jacob, Leah, Rachel, and Dinah, set in the Scottish lowlands in 1791-1793 and 1810. The books are historically accurate and yet remarkably close to the original considering that fact.
* Pairings: Jacob/Leah, Jacob/Rachel, Dinah/Shechem
* Warnings: The fourth book contains non-graphic rape.

Literature/TheDaVinciCode by Creator/DanBrown
* Recommended by: {{@/AdmiralAkbar1}}
* ''Status'': Complete
* Synopsis: Set nearly 2,000 years after the events of the original work, it's a StealthSequel about an attempt to uncover an AncientConspiracy that's hiding the Holy Grail. It ends in the revelation that the Holy Grail is [[ItWasWithYouAllAlong actually one of the characters]], because she's a descendant of Jesus's secret children with Mary Magdalene. Inspired heavily by ''Holy Blood, Holy Grail'' and other {{Fanon}} books on Jesus's bloodline.
* Pairings: Jesus/Mary Magdalene
* Comments: The most successful Biblical fanfic of the 21st century, becoming a bestselling book and a blockbuster film. A fun read if you're not a stickler for strict adherence to canon.
