These are recommendations made by Tropers for ''Literature/LandOfOz'' fanfics, all of which have to be signed to stay on the page. After a few samples, you will be able to judge whether you might be interested in the 'fic, based on who recommended it. ''No-name recommendations will be '''zapped'''.'' Nobody would back up the rec. Discussion of the recommendation is welcome on the discussion page. As such discussion is important, do remember to add the discussion page to the watchlist, if need be. You can also add to the current recommendations if you want. Refrain from posting Administrivia/ConversationInTheMainPage though; that goes in the discussion page.

''[[http://www.oztimeline.net The Royal Timeline of Oz]]''
* Recommended by Tropers/{{Roo}}
* ''Synopsis:'' The Royal Timeline is primarily a list of published Oz material, by the official authors and others, put into chronological order, but also includes links to a handful of online stories written by fans to fill in plot holes or explore parts of canon hitherto left in the dark (mostly short stories, but there are a couple of longer ones as well, such as ''[[http://www.redhen-publications.com/eureka.html# Eureka in Oz]]'' and ''[[http://www.redhen-publications.com/carpet.html The Magic Carpet of Oz]]'', both by David Hulan). All these stories are OriginalFlavor and designed to fit as painlessly into the canon as possible.
* ''Comments:'' Not all the online stories are equally good, but there's a certain charm to most of them, and quite a few of the solutions for patching up plot holes are pretty creative.

''Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.''

''[[http://www.tomswiftlives.com/magic_book_of_OZ.htm#MAGICBOOK The Magic Book of Oz]]'' by Scott Dickerson
* Recommended by Tropers/{{Roo}}
* ''Status'': Complete
* ''Synopsis:'' Glinda's newest handmaiden, Notmarie, accidentally alters part of the Great Book of Records, and in so doing alters reality and history at the same time, so that the Wizard never came to Oz. Now she finds herself in a different Oz, where Wicked Witches still rule, the Emerald City doesn't exist, nobody's heard of Ozma, and people still grow old and die. Together with an elderly Dorothy (who still crashed on top of the Wicked Witch of the East, but had no way to return to Kansas and so stayed in Munchkinland and grew old) and a still-brainless Scarecrow (who never got his brains), as well as a few other colorful personages, she now has to try and set things right and bring Oz back to its normal self.
* ''Comments:'' It's a well-written, entertaining and occasionally hilarious story, very much in the style of L. Frank Baum. We get to see the origin of Oz, and how the Fairy Queen Lurline originally enchanted the land, as well as a thought-out history of the alternate Oz that comes about from Notmarie's accidental rewriting of reality. Many of the familiar characters make appearances, in altered forms -- perhaps the biggest surprise is what became of the Cowardly Lion in this version of Oz -- and the original characters are fun.

''[[http://archiveofourown.org/works/14564/chapters/18559 The Solitary Sorceress of Oz]]'' by Gray Cardinal
* Recommended by Tropers/{{Roo}}, [=Phys101=]
* ''Status'': Complete
* ''Synopsis:'' Everyone in Oz knows Glinda -- or do they? When Trot discovers that nobody in Oz can really say where exactly the Good Witch of the South came from, she gets more and more interested on finding out; partly out of curiosity and partly because she's worried Glinda might be lonely and that she doesn't have anyone to share her story with.
* ''Comments:'' A short and uncomplicated, but still pretty sweet story. Glinda's origin might not be the most imaginative one, but it works well for the purpose of the fic, and the real interest is the tone of friendship and understanding that develops between Glinda and Trot; two characters who barely interact in canon but here find that they have more in common than either of them knew.

''[[http://archiveofourown.org/works/34564 Fat Babies, or The Temptation Of The Hungry Tiger]]'' by Traykor
* Recommended by Tropers/{{Roo}}
* ''Status'': Complete
* ''Synopsis:'' The Hungry Tiger meets a fat baby. Will he eat it? ...Naaaah, you ''know'' he won't. But maybe he can help the baby with a problem...
* ''Comments:'' A look at Oz's anti-aging magic and why not everyone might find it beneficial, as well as a rare starring role for the Hungry Tiger, who doesn't appear in many fanfics.

''[[http://archiveofourown.org/works/12940416 The Nationwide Network of Oz]]'' by Creator/ErinPtah
* Recommended by [[https://tvtropes.org/Tropers/Dina_M Dina M]]
* ''Status'': Complete
* ''Synopsis:'' It's time for Oz to enter the digital age. Using Ozma's magic picture to see what the outside world is like nowadays, Dorothy finds out about the Internet and thinks it seems like a good idea. Soon, the Oznet is in full development.
* ''Comments:'' Some minor Dorothy/Ozma, in that they are an established couple in the story, but it's very incidental and doesn't affect the plot.
