One year after Taichi "Tai" Yagami saved two worlds from Daemon and six months after he lost his partner, Zeromaru, his friends and family make a last ditch effort to drag him out of his depression -- by sending him to summer camp. From there it mostly follows the plot of ''Adventure'' until certain pre-existing relationships cause it to go OffTheRails. It is complete and has a sequel.

----
!!Tropes:
* TheAce: [[TheHero Tai]], given [[Manga/DigimonVTamer01 his past experience in the field]] this is not a surprise. Overlaps with ExperiencedProtagonist.
** BrokenAce: Despite being the best Tamer there is, it comes with heavy emotional burdens: Tai has become a ShellShockedVeteran with Zero's death making things worse. It doesn't help that he thinks that the situation he is in now is similar to the previous one, making him WrongGenreSavvy which causes major trust issues in the first half of the story.
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange: More like Adaptational Superpower Switch: Yolei and Iori swapped their canon Digimentals, meaning different Armour Digivolutions for their partners.
* AdaptedOut: Lord Whamon's roles are overtaken by Gon the Deep saver and Lord [=HolyAngemon=]. The author later admitted this was a mistake.
* AdmiringTheAbomination: Seeing [[spoiler: Super Ultimate for the fourth time]] fills Tai with dread but he has to admit to finding it beautiful.
* AFatherToHisMen: Though never explicitly shown, it is stated that [=MetalSeadramon=] was like this to his army. The actions of Pukumon and the rest of his forces support this, as well as their continued loyalty to [=MetalSeadramon=]'s cause even after his death. [[spoiler:Too bad Machinedramon's just using them to fulfil his own agenda.]]
* AllThereInTheManual: Though the author typically gives the necessary background information from ''V-Tamer'' when a particular aspect from it is referenced within the story, reading the manga provides nearly all of the exposition for Tai's darker history. As more of the story's plot continues to be effected by events that occurred within ''V-Tamer'', it is likely a good idea to read it and better understand how the two stories relate to one another. On the occasions that the author has not given the necessary information and simply inserted references to events that transpired in the manga some readers were confused as to where the information originated from.
* AlwaysABiggerFish: [=MagnaAngemon=]'s [[HellGate Gate of Destiny]] leads to a dimension full of banished enemies and {{Eldritch Abomination}}s. Whenever he uses the technique, he never allows it to stay open for very long for fear that they may escape. [[spoiler: One of these creatures helps to [[VillainousRescue destroy a pursuing Diaboromon copy]] while fighting in this dimension.]]
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: This is generally how the other Tamers and Digidestined view Tai, they put him on a pedestal because of all he's been through. Interestingly the other chosen children are fine with him being on such a pedestal, Tai however, views them as equals with him just being the leader and is [[WrongGenreSavvy mistaken about his purpose as such]], [[spoiler: believing it to be leading out of danger and ultimately out of the Digital World. There are no spies or soldiers on his side for the majority of this particular conflict so he ''needs'' to send other kids who did not volunteer to fight into danger.]]
* AndIMustScream: All of Machinedramon's {{Mook}}s are actually prisoners whom he forcibly converts into Sealsdramon and Commandramon. [[spoiler:Andromon becomes an unfortunate victim of this, but as [=HiAndromon=] instead]].
* ArcWelding: The events of ''Manga/DigimonVTamer01'' are revealed to be a prequel to ''Anime/DigimonAdventure'' in here. Tai got picked due to his past experience to help the other children grow as heroes and help them survive their initial battles. The original five [=DigiDestined=] that are briefly alluded to in canon are Tai, Neo and Alias III in here. The final chapter also ties in [[spoiler: the events of ''Our War Game'' and ''Revenge of Diaboromon'']].
* AscendedFanboy:
** Tai, but not to the degree of Alias III and Neo, who it turns out know much more about Digimon despite spending less time in the Digital World than him.
** In his youth, Leomon found himself awed by the legends of "The Great One" (a title given to Tai due to his exploits) and strives to follow his example. Now he gets to fight alongside him.
** {{Downplayed|Trope}} for Gatomon. She initially never made the connection that "The Great One" she idolised, whose exploits she read about kept her sane is Tai during her time as Myotismon's pawn until sometime after she joined the [=DigiDestined=].
* AwesomeByAnalysis: In nearly every battle Tai is able to assess the situation and control the battle. He will observe his opponent and frequently defeats them by [[AttackItsWeakPoint targeting the enemies' weaknesses]]. This allows him defeat higher level Digimon that are more powerful than his own.
* BackFromTheDead
** Myotismon has done this at least three times, once in ''V-Tamer'', the second time when he first appears in this story, and the [[RuleOfThree third]] when he uses the prophecy to digivolve himself into [[spoiler:[=MaloMyotismon=]]].
** As in [[Anime/DigimonAdventure canon]], Etemon comes back during the battle against Puppetmon as [=MetalEtemon=].
** [[spoiler: Wizardmon]] turns out to be [[spoiler:Sigma's Piedmon]] reborn.
** Machinedramon resurrects [=MetalSeadramon=] as [=GigaSeadramon=], [[spoiler:although [=MetalSeadramon=]'s personality has been overwritten to serve Machinedramon]].
** Machinedramon himself is actually [[spoiler:Neo Saiba's [=MetalGreymon=], revived by Apocalymon]].
* BadassCape: Tai's yellow cloak in the original ''V-Tamer'' story. He returns to the Digital World with his cloak when he once again [[IncrediblyLamePun takes up the mantle]] after his TenMinuteRetirement.
* BadassNormal: [[IntrepidReporter Hiroaki Ishida]], Matt's father, and the rest of his crew, specifically him and his cameraman. After surviving the initial raid by Myotismon's forces by chance, [[GoingForTheBigScoop they all sneek past the Digimon guards in front of the news building]]. When they are seen, they manage to [[OutRunTheFireball get away]] and prepare a newsbroadcast to warn Japan and the rest of the world. [[CameraFiend Oh, and all through this the camera is still rolling!]] When they are caught again on the way to send it, Hiroaki trys to fight off the attacker with a [[BroomStickQuarterstaff metal mop]] so the rest can get away. Hiroaki and his cameraman, Jeremiah, saw a lot of nasty things in [[WarIsHell Bosnia]].
* BadBoss: [[BigBad Myotismon]] when he gets angry starts killing off minions.
* BatmanGambit:
** As in ''Manga/DigimonVTamer01'', Tai has the ability to come up with these on the fly, allowing his partner to take on enemies of much higher levels.
** [[spoiler:[[TheStarscream Machinedramon]] pulls off one of his own to take out Piedmon and Puppetmon]].
* BatmanGrabsAGun: Knowing that Myotismon will never stay dead of his own volition [[spoiler: [=WarGreymon=] decides to load his data to make sure he'll never come back from the dead again. However, loading his data is revealed to have negative consequences down the line]].
* BigBrotherInstinct:
** Neo Saiba's toward his sister Rei is what caused half of the problems Tai initially had to deal with, and Neo was working with much less time than Daemon.
** Tai is himself this way toward his own sister Hikari, just not in the same way.
** Matt is also highly protective of TK. [[spoiler: Seeing him nearly die validated Matt's concerns about being essentially drafted to fight for a world that he never developed a connection to, ramping it up for the rest of the story]].
* BigDamnHeroes:
** Quite a few times though Zudomon in particular seems to be made of this.
** [[spoiler: Garurumon saving Hiroaki from a Digimon]].
** [[spoiler: [=SaberLeomon=] coming out of nowhere to attack Apocalymon during the FinalBattle just as he's about to delete Tai]].
* BigEntrance: Tai and [=MetalGreymon=] pull one off when they begin to fight Myotismon at the Sports Center. Highlights include a BigDamnHeroes moment, ThereWasADoor, and a DynamicEntry on the [=DarkTyrannomon=] specifically.
* BreatherEpisode: Chapter 23. It is even appropriately named "Recovery".
* CallForward: It turned out to be very fortunate that Tai and Zeromaru met some of the soldiers--a Greymon, a Tyrannomon, and a Centarumon--that Leo had trained. Because they mention that they had all been Agumon, Tai is later able to figure out that the Agumon card is the False Gate Card when the Digidestined are trying to get back home.
* CanonDiscontinuity: Yeah, those ''V-Tamer'' crossovers with other entries in the franchise had to be ignored. [[spoiler: Actually, two of them are used for this plot.]]
* CherryTapping: Tai and Agumon go through the entire File Island Arc beating even Perfect level enemies without Digivolving.
* CompositeCharacter: Given that this is a FusionFic, some of the ''Adventure'' and ''V-Tamer'' characters are the same people.
** First, there is of course Tai who travels through the plot of ''Adventure'' but is the ''V-Tamer'' character.
** Myotismon turns out to be the same mon that guarded the Tag of Illusions, but has returned stronger than ever and becomes Tai's ArchEnemy.
** Wizardmon is the Champion form of [[spoiler: Sigma's Piedmon, and has joined Myotismon's army as a [[TheMole mole]] and to meet Sigma again.]]
** The Dark Master's Piedmon [[spoiler: is a brainwashed Pul]].
** [[spoiler: Machinedramon is Neo's [=MetalGreymon=], back from the dead and hungry for revenge against Tai and Neo.]]
* DarkIsNotEvil: Pal and Pul are brother and sister [=DemiDevimon=] who are not evil[[note]]Their real designation is Petitmamon, which was not in the V-pets and not even given a name until ''V-Tamer'' was finished, so they are simply called [=DemiDevimon=] [[CallASmeerpARabbit because it is the closet relative to their species]][[/note]]. [[spoiler:[[SubvertedTrope Pul would eventually go on to become the Piedmon who leads the Dark Masters]], although his reactions to remembering his past life seem to imply that it wasn't a choice he made of his own volition]].
* DarkerAndEdgier: To the original ''Digimon Adventure''. In one example, there weren't any people killed onscreen from the Digimon attacks in canon. It is very tragically averted in here. Because of this, governments around the world are now taking various actions on this new frontier that was revealed to the public as a result, which also averts the ExtraStrengthMasquerade which happened in canon as well.
* DeaderThanDead: Loading a Digimon's data does this to them as it prevents their data from being reborn into a Digi-Egg. To ensure Myotismon doesn't come back a fourth time, Tai [[spoiler:as [=WarGreymon=] absorbs all of [=MaloMyotismon=]'s data]].
* DeathByAdaptation: [[spoiler:Both Ogremon and Andromon, who survived in canon, end up getting killed. In fact, ''nearly every'' non-partner ally Digimon who survived to the end of ''Adventure'' wind up dead. In a hilarious subversion, '''[[SacrificialLion Leomon]]''' of all characters actually lives at the end]].
* DeconstructionFic: To ''Digimon Adventure''.
** The humans' PlotArmor is explained in here by stating that turning them into data beings when entering the Digital World allowed them to shrug off stuff that should have killed them multiple times over. If it happened in the human world, they will be pushing up daisies. Even then, there is still a limit to what level of punishment the humans can take in the Digital World, as a sufficiently powerful attack can still kill them just as easily, meaning that they have to take cover in large scale battles.
** When the heroes called the various houses at nine at night asking for their children to search for the 8th Chosen Child, they immediately got hung up on instead of being answered due to the timing and their questioning making them look like prank callers.
** When you get dragged to a dangerous place to be it's saviour against your will, your first priority would be finding a way to ''get the hell out'' rather than staying behind. Not only that, since you don't have any connection to a place that has you spend majority of your time there ''trying to not to die'', it cripples your motivation to save it.
* DisproportionateRetribution:
** Granted that Tai may have killed Myotismon when seeking the [[McGuffin Tag of Illusions]] during his first trip in the Digital World, but his rage is so great towards Tai that his hated sustains his life force for over two thousand years in the Dark Area. Not only that, but he pleasantly goes out of his way in his attempt to make Tai suffer simply to break the look of defiance that Tai had in his eyes. Also counts as MisplacedRetribution towards Gatomon, whom he punishes and abuses simply for having the same look in her eyes.
** All the horrors Machinedramon commits throughout the Dark Masters Arc is simply because [[spoiler:Tai failed to save him from Neo's abuse when he was [=MetalGreymon=]]].
* DistantFinale: [[spoiler: Some time after the battle with Apocalymon, the Digidestined are called upon one more time to stop the main antagonist of ''Revenge of Diaboromon'' from wrecking havoc on the human world. After defeating it, they return to the Digital World one more time to separate. They are hailed as heroes by a crowd of Digimon over there. With this event, Tai know that the Digital World is finally on the road to recovery]].
* DoorStopper: The story has 43 Chapters which span six story arcs, and has a word count of more than 440,000 words. The word counts of each individual arc are as follows:
** The Devimon Arc: Spans Chapters 1-8 with nearly 64,000 words.
** The brief Etemon Arc: Spans Chapters 9-12 with around 40,000 words.
** The Myotismon Arc: Spans Chapters 13-23 with the largest amount at almost 121,000 words.
** The Dark Masters Arc: Spans Chapters 24-33 with a sizable count of nearly 95,000 words.
** The Machinedramon Arc: Spans Chapters 34-40 with a sizable count of nearly 53,000 words.
** The Final Battle Arc: Spans Chapters 41-42 with around 40,000 words. [[spoiler: In actuality, it is two separate final battles]].
* DramaticIrony: As one reviewer points out, after Tai fought so hard to beat some sense into Neo, causing him to at last feel shame and regret for his actions, particularly his betrayal of [=MetalGreymon=], [[spoiler:his partner ends up following in his footsteps]].
* DumbBlonde: Mari invokes this so that she can than catch people unaware and use it against them.
* EarlyBirdCameo:
** [[Anime/DigimonAdventure02 Davis and Jun Motomiya]] are imprisoned with Kari at the convention center when Myotismon takes everyone hostage.
** Even earlier, [[spoiler:the Dark Ocean]] interferes with Tai's TrainingFromHell under Piximon.
* {{Expy}}: The combined traits of ''V-Tamer'' Tai and ''Adventure'' Tai, along with some further developments in this story have turned him into an expy of Tsuyoshi Kaijō from ''Series/HimitsuSentaiGoranger''. The leader, the tactician, the soccer star.
* FastballSpecial: Unwilling version. [[spoiler:[=HerculesKabuterimon=] X manages to defeat Darkdramon and [=GigaSeadramon=] by tossing the latter into the former, causing [=GigaSeadramon=]'s Giga Sea Destroyer to destroy Darkdramon's anti-matter power source and leaving both of them vulnerable to [=HerculesKabuterimon=] X's Mega Electro Shocker]].
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Hideto's OnceDoneNeverForgotten moment. When he explains how Omnimon took down an Imperialdramon Fighter Mode: [[spoiler: He degenerated Omnimon back into Warg and Melg, had Melg freeze Imperialdramon and then had Warg use the Dramon Killers.]] When he tells Tai this as it informs Tai about the Dramon Killers. As Hideto has raised a [[ThePowerOfTheSun WarGreymon]] from an egg, [[SarcasmMode there is no way that he could realize its importance]]. Guess how [=MetalSea=]'''DRA'''mon died!
* ForWantOfANail: The crossover aspect of the story could be viewed as such with Tai's [[Manga/DigimonVTamer01 past experiences]] serving as the alteration from canon.
* FourIsDeath: [[spoiler: It took four times for Myotismon to stay dead in this continuity]].
* FusionDance: [[spoiler: To achieve Mega level, the Digidestined [[Anime/DigimonTamers Biomerge]] with their Digimon partners]].
* GroinAttack: Tai knows that you have to do this against a [=VenomMyotismon=]. The others are [[FlatWhat not so impressed]].
* GogglesDoNothing: Subverted. As in ''V-Tamer'', Tai uses them while his partner is flying. [[spoiler: They are also used in a plan to deliver Kari her [[PlotDevice Digivice]] mid-battle.]]
* HeroicBSOD: Machinedramon's {{Reveal}} of himself as [[spoiler:Neo's former [=MetalGreymon=]]] causes Tai to freeze up during the first half of their FinalBattle, blaming himself for all the bad things he was unable to prevent over the course of both his adventures. [[spoiler:It takes a pep talk from Kari inside his head for him to regain his courage and figure out how to beat Machinedramon]].
* HeroicSacrifice:
** Doubling down with a YouShallNotPass, Pumpkinmon holds off Myotismon while Gatomon and Wizardmon escape with Kari's Crest of Light.
** Chuumon presumably gives his life in his attempt to protect Mimi and Izzy [[spoiler: from the Dark Ocean, having been dragged beneath its surface for his troubles. The shock of this causes Mimi to overcome its influence and allow her and Palmon to Biomerge into Rosemon]].
* HoistByHisOwnPetard:
** Given the nature of his floating, homing attacks that surge towards enemies on command, [[spoiler: Piedmon]] is defeated when he utilizes his attack and is unaware that he was positioned directly in between his attack and his enemy. [[spoiler: Sigma's Piedmon had been defeated by the same attack, though in that case Tai tricked Sigma into instructing that Piedmon warp his swords into his own position and defeat himself.]]
** [[spoiler: Apocalymon absorbed the data of most of the inhabitants of the Digital World whom had given in to despair. Destroying Zeromaru's V-pet causes him to absorb the data of [[{{Determinator}} Zero]], whose very presence prevents Apocalymon from using his using his Total Annihilation attack.]]
* IChooseToStay: [[spoiler:Rather than return to the Digital World following Apocalymon's defeat, Wizardmon decides to remain in the Real World to reconnect with Sigma]].
* InternalReveal: We learn at the end of Chapter 29 that [[spoiler:Wizardmon is in fact Sigma's Piedmon BackFromTheDead]]. We go through the next three chapters with Tai thinking that [[spoiler:[[EntertaininglyWrong the Dark Masters' Piedmon is Sigma's Piedmon reborn]]]].
* ItWasWithYouAllAlong: [[spoiler:Turns out that the power of the Digi-Mental was within Tai all this time ever since he and Zeromaru first used it against Daemon. It takes the memories of all his human and Digimon friends (plus the sight of [[NiceJobFixingItVillain Apocalymon callously deleting Zero's V-pet]]) that allows him to finally unlock it]].
* KarmaHoudini: A dramatic example with Neo. Him never having to face justice for his actions is what caused [[spoiler: Machinedramon to join the Dark Masters.]]
* KeepingSecretsSucks:
** Tai does not tell everyone that he has been to the Digital World before, and spends most of the time through the Etemon arc internally moaning about where everything he is used to has gone. [[spoiler: The reason why he didn't tell the others is because the events of ''V-Tamer'' have left him with trust issues. After [[TheLancer Neo]] shoves this in his face, Tai decides to tell the rest of the group after the problems with Myotismon are done]].
** He's not the only one, Hideto tells Tai about something that they don't exactly like to mention, Matt is reluctant to talk about the fact that his family is divorced, and Izzy sure hasn't told anyone else about his issues at home.
* LadyOfWar: [[spoiler: [[FusionDance Rosemon]] certainty counts as one. She's often described as gorgeous or pretty, can be pretty flirty, and fights harder and more viciously against her opponents than the rest of the cast]].
* LifeWillKillYou: What happened to Zero, Lord [=HolyAngemon=], Gabu, and the rest of Tai's ''V-Tamer'' Digimon friends combined with a ''2000'' year time gap between the two stories. This causes Tai a lot of grief when he finds out.
* LotusEaterMachine: [[spoiler:Just like in the ''02'' finale, [=MaloMyotismon=] uses his Illusion Mist attack to trap the Digidestined in their own personal fantasies. TK's is more or less the same as in canon, which is also shared by Matt, Izzy sees himself with his birth mother, Joe and Sora have improved relationships with their father and mother respectively, Kari sees herself finally being strong enough to play soccer with Tai, and Tai gets to see Zero again. Due to the abilities of the Crest of Sincerity, however, Mimi isn't affected at all]].
* MassOhCrap: Done in Chapter 21 and it begins when the group realizes they have slept until 6:00. [[spoiler: As [=VenomMyotismon=] would revive at [[NumberOfTheBeast 6:06:06]] and he did so with his mind in tact, this is understandable.]]
* MotiveRant:
** [[spoiler:Malo]]Myotismon gives one to Tai when he [[spoiler:becomes the first of the Digi-Destined, though not the first of his enemies, to break out of his Illusion Mist attack]].
** Machinedramon gives one as well right before his FinalBattle with Tai.
* MythologyGag:
** Koromon are not known for their bowel control.
** The unused ''V-Tamer'' character, Prince Pluto The Plotmon (Salamon) [[ShowWithInAShow becomes a fictional character here.]]
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: For villains, "[[TheDreaded The Victory Tamer]]."
* NiceJobFixingItVillain:
** [[spoiler:Malo]]Myotismon's attempt to put Tai under his Illusion Mist just [[spoiler:lets him see Zero again and help him reaffirm his resolve to beat him]].
** [[spoiler:If Apocalymon hadn't destroyed Zero's V-pet, 1) Tai would never have been emotionally pushed to the breaking point, causing him to unlock the Digi-Mental's power within him and 2) [[HoistByHisOwnPetard he wouldn't have absorbed Zero's data, whose presence in Apocalymon's mindscape causes him to freeze up]] when he attempts to perform his [[TakingYouWithMe Total Annihilation]] attack.]]
** [[spoiler:Apocalymon also separated the [[FusionDance Biomerged]] Digidestined from their partners, hoping that the loss in extra energy and causing the children to be vulnerable on the battlefield would make things easier on him; unfortunately for him, this just meant that [[SeenItAll Tai]] had access to a [[PowerOfTheSun WarGreymon]] and [[AnIcePerson MetalGarurumon]] he could [[FusionDance Jogress]] into [[OlympusMons Omnimon]].]]
* OffTheRails:
** Tai makes Devimon and Myotismon so unnerved that they decide to change up their strategies.
** On a similar note, Tai discovers Kari's Digivice during his TenMinuteRetirement and accidentally takes it with him. He also sets up a meeting with the other V-Tamers, placing him in Shibuya (Matt and TK are also there for other reasons) when the rest of the Digidestined find out the consequences of Myotismon going OffTheRails.
* OlderIsBetter: Tai, Myotismon, and [[spoiler: Machinedramon]] are all survivors from the ''V-Tamer'' era from two-thousand years ago and their tactics, strategies, and weapons are far more dangerous and effective than ''Adventure'' era methods.
* OneWingedAngel:
** Using the Prophecy, Myotismon Digivolves himself into [[spoiler:[[Anime/DigimonAdventure02 MaloMyotismon]], rather than [=VenomMyotismon=] as in canon]].
** Machinedramon [[spoiler:uses the Red Chrome Digizoid and the data of his minions to Digivolve himself into Chaosdramon X]].
* OutOfCharacterMoment: [[BigGood Homeostasis]] is always [[TheStoic The Stoic]] when talking with the kids in canon. Here she makes Tai mad at her by speaking through Kari, all he does is tell her to get out of Kari, she is immediately nervous because he is mildly upset at her.
* PaintingTheMedium: All of [[EvilSoundsDeep Machinedramon's]] dialogue is written in bold-type.
* PortraitPaintingPeephole: Devimon performs this in his illusion created mansion by having himself appear as an angel portrait. Tai, seeing the angel in the painting is black, will have none it and has Agumon Pepper Breath him in the face.
* PrecisionFStrike: "''[[AndThisIsFor THIS IS FOR]] [[spoiler: GOTSUMON]], [[ThisIsForEmphasisBitch YOU]] [[YouMonster BASTARD]]!''"
* RapidAging: Not even Arkadimon, who gained a level before leaving the incubator its egg was in, evolved as fast as Kuramon.
* RapidFireTyping: Neo and Sigma now have Izzy to rival them.
* RedHerring: [[spoiler: For a while, it seems that Machinedramon is gathering the needed components to create a Chimeramon to fuse with and become Millenniummon. Then we discover that he purposely avoided that line of evolution, ''[[ShootTheDog with prejudice]]''.]]
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: After finally realizing that he had the power to pursue his own course and that he didn't have to [[LesCollaborateurs bend the knee]] to every tyrant that came along, [[spoiler: Ogremon]] decides to fight for good and ends up giving his life for his new cause.
* {{Retcon}}: Some minor changes were made to get the plots of ''V-Tamer'' and ''Adventure'' in sync, such as getting Zero to the ocean much sooner on the ''V-Tamer'' side and Tai's expanded friend network on the ''Adventure'' side. [[spoiler: Hideto was apparently lying when he lectured Tai and Zero about ancient types]].
* RousingSpeech: The following is delivered by Pukumon to his men before the attack on Piedmon's castle:
--> "We will fight to the last breath, to the last digimon! They will taste our weapons, they will taste our resolve, they will taste our SPIRIT! And my brothers, even if victory is not achieved this day... I swear... [[PunctuatedForEmphasis we will. MAKE. THAT. CLOWN. BLEED!]]"
* ScrewDestiny:
** After Koromon finds out about Zeromaru he says he won't be Tai's partner because destiny says so. [[spoiler: ...He ''will'' be Tai's partner because ''he wants to be''.]]
** The Digidestined try and have a plan A for defeating [=VenomMyotismon=] that isn't "Follow the Prophecy". Due to what it entails, [[spoiler: Tai and Matt being shot with Holy class Ultimate and Champion Level attacks respectively]], this is not a surprise. [[spoiler: [[TheUnTwist They still have to use the prophecy]] due to [[DidntSeeThatComing Myotismon coming back as MaloMyotismon instead of VenomMyotismon]]]].
* SequelHook: [[spoiler: Zero is revealed to have been reborn into a Digi-Egg, even keeping his memories of Tai. The Dark Ocean is shown to be kidnapping random people. In response to the Digimon invasions, the Japanese government hires [[Anime/DigimonTamers Mitsuo Yamaki]], who establishes Project Hypnos]].
* TheSmartGuy:
** Both Izzy and Sigma serve as this for their respective groups. Though they both are extremely talented in the usage of computers, Izzy is more of a GadgeteerGenius due to his ability to modify the Digivices and their programming, while Sigma is a definite TechnoWizard that is capable of finding your phone number in under five minutes with just a name.
** Neo isn't much of a slouch either, able to create and bait a virus that can [[spoiler:kill Armageddomon with no prior warning]]. While now firmly on the side of good, he still [[ReformedButNotTamed retains some of his mannerisms when he was evil]].
* SparedByTheAdaptation: [[spoiler:Leomon and Wizardmon have (so far) both been spared their unfortunate fates]].
* TheStarscream: [[spoiler:Machinedramon successfully organizes a coup over Piedmon for control of the Dark Masters and is plotting to take out Apocalymon as well]].
* TheStrategist
** This is Tai's main role. It's what earned him the title of "Victory Tamer."
** While Tai is the superior analyst, Neo Saiba has him beat in long term strategy.
** Machinedramon is one for the villains' side.
* {{Synchronization}}: Whenever the Digimon get hit, their respective partner feels the pain in the closest corresponding area. [[spoiler: This is to prepare them for [[FusionDance Biomerge]], as they will be fighting as one in that form]].
* SympathyForTheDevil: [[spoiler: Even though he's proven himself a horrible monster with his actions, Tai still sympathizes with the dying Chaosdramon X, and promises to reunite him with Neo after he is reborn]].
* TacticalRockPaperScissors: The Virus-Vaccine-Data triangle is used to a greater degree than it was in either ''V-Tamer'' or ''Adventure''. Level still trumps attribute though...[[spoiler:and they both mean less to Angemon.]]
* TakeAThirdOption: When you can't get to Odaiba because the bridge has collapsed and the waters are too full of enemies to swim-not that Greymon are great swimmers anyway-and flying in would only get you noticed and mean you have to fight of an entire army at once... What do you do? [[spoiler: Why take the still under construction tunnel of course!]]
* TitleDrop: Chapter 21: "Experience is the teacher of all things." -Julius Ceasar
* UnskilledButStrong: Knowledge is power, especially in a world of data. Izzy has the crest of Knowledge and thus picks things up very quickly but is not the best at ''applying'' what he knows. Only the prior Tamers are more tactically minded than he is but it is by a noticeable margin.
* VaguenessIsComing: During chapter 42 Tai remembers this line.
--> [[spoiler:I am a God... The rest of the Triumvirate will perish.]]
** It's implied to have something to do with Apocalymon, as those are parts of two different lines spoken by him that Tai just connected.
* VillainousBreakdown: Once Tai (correctly) guesses that [[spoiler:even after all these years, Machinedramon still misses Neo]], Machinedramon becomes more and more emotional and erratic as the fight progresses, all the while denying Tai's claims.
--> [[spoiler:'''Chaosdramon X:''' '''Neo doesn't miss me! And I don't miss him! I don't! He is nothing to me anymore!''']]
** He has another less noticeable one. Minutes later when [=MetalGarurumon=], [[spoiler:Phoenixmon, and [=HerculesKabuterimon=] X]] perform a BigDamnHeroes to back Tai up when he's running low on energy, surviving despite Machinedramon's attempts to attack them using their emotions. The Dark Master [[EvilCannotComprehendGood is so stunned at this]], he doesn't even attempt to fight back when they're firing their final attacks.
--> [[spoiler:'''Chaosdramon X''']]: '''I didn't calculate...them overcoming...'''
* WeakButSkilled: Tai and Agumon defeat even Ultimate level monsters while still at the Rookie stage. The skill is due to Tai's previous battle experience and his [[AwesomeByAnalysis battle tactics]].
* WhatTheHellHero
** Tai gets this from Biyomon when his actions cause Agumon to become so desperate to please him that he tries to fight Etemon's Gizamon minions on his own.
** After learning about Tai's previous experience with the Digital World, some of the other Digidestined feel this [[spoiler: toward Gennai and the Sovereign.]]
* YearInsideHourOutside: Specifically, two thousand years in the Digital Word approximates to one year in the Real World. It is implied to be due to Apocalymon like in canon, as the sequel no longer has this trope in effect.
* YourMagicsNoGoodHere: A variation. [[spoiler: Due to being data beings, the Digidestined who Biomerge in the human world or travel to the human world while Biomerged are stuck in their Digimon forms. They have to return to the Digital World to separate]].
