''The Dark Lords of Nerima'' is a ''Anime/SailorMoon''/''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'' crossover by [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/397720/claymade Claymade]] that focuses on a Youma that barely escapes death at the Senshi's hands, eventually being discovered and treated by Ryouga. This one act of kindness sets off a cascading avalanche of trouble as the Dark Kingdom, the Sailor Senshi and the crazy residents of Nerima all get involved. And meanwhile, in her attempts to get back into the Dark Kingdom's good graces, the Youma finds herself immersed in a life unlike anything she'd ever imagined.

!!''The Dark Lords of Nerima'' and its sequels provides examples of:

[[folder: A-C]]
* AccidentalMisnaming: When she first devised her plan, Beneda accidentally called Ryouga Ryoma.
* AintTooProudToBeg: Ariwara Akio, the assassin in the first chapter, after realizing how far out of his league Tanizaki is.
* TheAlliance: The army to battle the Dark Kingdom is built from the various clans of the Qinghai Province, many of which hate each other, plus the NWC and anyone else that could be gathered together on short notice.
* AllMythsAreTrue: All the rumors everyone believes about Nerima are absolutely true.
* AlternateUniverse: One is created in ''The Dark Lords Strike Back'' [[spoiler: following Usagi's wish to have everything restored. The NWC find themselves back in Nerima without any memory of what happened, until Beneda, whose life is so radically different from what it was that her memories couldn't be suppressed, comes to snap them out of it. From here on, they proceed with all the knowledge of things as they happened before, enabling Ranma to beat certain opponents right off the bat since he already knows their weaknesses, but other things also begin to change. Most significant is an incident in India that took months and was one of the more harrowing things to occur in the new timeline.]]
* AmbiguousSituation: Whether or not Ginzuishou magic affects Jusenkyo magic is discussed in-universe. While neither Beneda’s nor Taro’s curses were affected, the characters don’t know if it was intentional or not.
* AndTheAdventureContinues: The finale of ''Ascendants'' has shades of this, as while the heroes have ''more'' than [[EarnYourHappyEnding earned their happiness]], there's still things like the "Obsidian Core" to deal with.
* AngerBornOfWorry: Beneda was furious at Ryouga and Shampoo when they returned from being healed by Sailor Saturn.
* AnyoneCanDie: The interlude is full of demonstrations of this trope. [[spoiler: Genma is later killed during ''Ascendant''.]]
* AppealToAudacity: Part of the reason why Pluto believed Ryouga when he told her the truth behind the Dark Lords was because she couldn't believe anyone would use a lie so ridiculous.
* AnArmAndALeg:
** Prince Herb and Soap's successful strike against Beryl during the Dark Kingdom assault completely shreds one of his arms. This does ''nothing'' to slow him down, prompting Beryl to flee the battlefield before his next attack can connect.
** [[spoiler: Sailor Venus falls victim to this thanks to the Wyrmspawn.]]
** [[spoiler: Zhang's ultimate fate at the hands of Mousse.]]
* ArtInitiatesLife: Metzger's experiments on Yumemi restored her ability to do this.
* AssholeVictim: Beneda, [[CharacterDevelopment at first]]. Yes, the story is written from her point of view, and yes, the Senshi are shown to be trying to kill her... ''for trying to ambush them and using a child as a human shield.'' She later pulls a HeelFaceTurn and joins the Nerima Wrecking Crew's side for real.
** Kodachi, when she fights the Darkmistress.
* ATragedyOfImpulsiveness: More like chaos than tragedy. If everyone stopped jumping to conclusions for one second, there would have been much less damage all around.
* AwesomeButImpractical: Ryouga eventually swallowed his pride and asked Ranma to teach him how to create a self-shaped battle aura in order to overcome the weakness of his curse. However, the drain is so great that he can only maintain it for a couple of seconds.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis:
** Ukyo figured out that Haruka and Michiru were Sailor Senshi by how they reacted to seeing Beneda’s true form.
** Hotaru manages to [[spoiler: figure out that P-Chan is Ryouga despite having zero experience with Jusenkyo curses, because the piglet she just healed had injuries identical to those she inflicted upon the 'Dark Lord' she fought.]]
** In chapter 18, Ranma puts together all the clues left around [[spoiler:since chapter 1]] to figure out that Tanizaki [[spoiler: became Death Phantom in the original timeline.]]
* BabiesEverAfter: Several of the couples have had kids by the time of the DistantFinale.
* BackToBackBadasses:
** Ryouga and Ranma in chapter 4 of the original work.
** [[spoiler: Ryouga and Sailor Saturn in chapter 6 of ''Ascendant'']].
* BadassArmy:
** The army of Joketsuzoku warriors Cologne summons to Nerima upon learning that the Dark Kingdom is back.
** Also, the one in the interlude, which includes pretty much all of Ranma's former allies and enemies, as well as multiple armies from warrior cultures in china. There are a few exceptions (Ryu Kumon could not be found), but it's pretty impressive. Except the fathers, who run like cowards.
* BadFuture: Ryo has visions of several when he begins having premonitions that Tanizaki is after him, many of them resulting in the Japanese government being turned against the Sailor Senshi. He manages to avoid the worst of them, and begins trying to manipulate events to a better outcome.
* BadGuysDoTheDirtyWork: This is why the Senshi didn’t pursue Beneda when she escaped, as they expected that Jadeite's method of dealing with failures would handle her for them.
** Played with as Tuxedo Mask thought that she was already dead due to an injury he inflicted, and they needed to leave before the police arrived anyway.
* BadPeopleAbuseAnimals: Ryouga throwing Luna to get her out of Ranma’s sight caused Usagi to physically attack him, as she believed that no enemy before had been evil and malicious enough to deliberately go after their most helpless member.
* BarrierBustingBlow: Averted; Ryouga tried this to get past Jadeite's shield, but his attempt failed. However, Jadeite was surprised at how close he came, and the martial artists were able to use the failure to their advantage.
* BatterUp: One of the martial artists hired by Tanizaki prefers attacking this way.
* {{Beat}}: When Beneda woke up she couldn’t fathom why a human was helping her:
-->'''Ryouga''': You were tossing and turning for a while, I was beginning to worry...\
* beat*\
'''Ryouga''': "My name is Hibiki Ryouga."
* BecomingTheMask: Textbook perfect examination with Beneda.
* BetterTheDevilYouKnow: The basis for the alliance between the [[spoiler:Dark Kingdom and the Sailor Senshi.]]
* BeingEvilSucks: This was Ryouga’s thought after defeating Luna. She was only his enemy because of the lies he and Ranma had been spinning. She had just been trying to save her friend, to do something good, and he had beaten her into unconsciousness for it. As he put it:
--> ''I guess this is what it is to be a villain.''
* BeyondTheImpossible: [[spoiler:Killing the Wyrmspawn]] is stated as this for both Sailor Pluto and Tanizaki, as neither of them believed that it could truly be done. As such, when it happens, it shocks the former and flummoxes the latter.
* BigDamnHeroes: This is how Ranma was introduced, rescuing an exhausted Ryouga and Beneda from a horde of Hounds.
* BigDamnKiss: [[spoiler: Sailor Mercury]] and [[spoiler: Urawa Ryo]] in chapter 15 of ''Ascendant''.
* ABirthdayNotABreak: ''Ascendant'' takes place during the month of Usagi and Chibiusa's birthdays.
* {{Blackmail}}: After taking control of his tower, the Senshi find all sorts of files Tanizaki was using to control various politicians, including what one of them was doing to his youngest niece.
* BlatantLies:
** When Crusath limped back to Jadeite she told him that she could have kept fighting Ryouga to the death but knew he needed to be warned of this new threat.
** When the Police came to investigate the huge gathering of martial artist at the Nekohaten, Soap told them they were having a Chinese Cultural Festival. Thanks to the Xi Fa Xiang Gao, they believed it.
* BloodKnight: Ariwara Akio the assassin sent to kill Tanizaki Kazuo. In fact it’s the reason he became an assassin.
* BluffTheImposter: [[spoiler: When Ekim takes control of Ranma's body, with the intention of attacking Sailor Mercury, she intercepts him and, suspicious of his behavior, asks why he'd want to talk to her since she was the one who destroyed the "summoning artifact". Ekim responds that he began to respect her after that, which confirms her suspicion that it's someone else, since Ranma would know it was Sailor Moon who destroyed it.]]
* BluffWorkedTooWell: In order to protect a young woman being hunted down by the [[Manga/SailorMoon Sailor Senshi]] (actually a Youma that had done a HeelFaceTurn), the [[Manga/RanmaOneHalf Nerima Wrecking Crew]] successfully manage to bluff the Senshi into believing that they are a group of high-powered "Youma" lords who don't want the Senshi (or other Youma) in Nerima. Events just escalate out of control afterwards to the point that the Wrecking Crew have to fight off the ''real'' Dark Lords to prevent them from taking over the planet and the Sailor Senshi decide to declare the Wrecking Crew a "KillOnSight" threat.
* BondVillainStupidity: Jadeite favors complicated plans, and concealed traps that highlight his own cleverness in setting them up. This is why Ami and Rei didn’t believe that Gosunkugi’s efforts to get in contact with them were his doing.
* {{Bookends}}:
** Beneda's original mission was to kill Sailor Moon. In the climax of ''Ascendant'', Beneda saves her life [[spoiler:by temporarily stopping her heart.]]
** The crossover proper in ''Dark Lords'' begins with Ryouga finding his way to an injured Beneda and ''Ascendant'' ends with him finding his way to the opening of her new clinic.
* BothSidesHaveAPoint:
** Mousse's argument with Akane and Ukyo as to whether they should help Ranma and Ryouga against the youma searching for Beneda. Mousse was adamant that the situation was extremely dangerous, while they pointed out that if they had trouble against one Youma, then ten to twenty would be impossible by themselves.
** Ukyo also quickly pointed out when he pulled a YouShallNotPass that if they couldn’t handle themselves he would have a clear shot at Shampoo, something Mousse couldn’t really argue against.
* ButForMeItWasTuesday: A heroic example. Jing-Wei is a member of the Phoenix People who Ranma saved from a youma during the chaos of battle in the Dark Kingdom. Ranma neither remembers this or cares since she died later on anyway... but the experience was enough for her to have the (utterly predictable) reaction of falling head over heels in love with Ranma anyway.
* TheCameo: [[spoiler:In the new timeline at the end of ''Ascendant'', alternate versions of Demande, Saphir, and Esmeraude briefly appear as Dark Kingdom pages.]]
* CantSpitItOut: When Beneda asked Ranma who the Darkmistress turned into with her ShapeshifterGuiltTrip ability, Akane, Ukyo and Shampoo instantly ask him the same thing. He claimed it was Genma that he saw, [[spoiler:but what he really saw was Akane]].
* CantKillYouStillNeedYou:
** This is why the Darkmistress opted to keep Jadeite alive after their battle with the NWC and the Senshi. If Queen Beryl found out about their [[CurbStompCushion crushing defeat,]] she had just as much to lose as he did. The fact that she needed him as a scapegoat in case they failed also helped.
* CassandraTruth: Nodoka’s neighbors all think that she is in denial over her husband leaving her, as she’s been telling them that he and Ranma are on a training trip for the past ten years.
* CatapultNightmare: Happens to Beneda after being saved by Ryouga.
* CatchAndReturn: Happens a couple of times:
** A variation occurs when Ryouga provokes Sailor Moon into using her Moon Tiara, then catches it and throws it at a youma.
** Beneda, facing the Darkmistress for the last time, fires several shiruken at her, only to have one be caught and sent back, nearly taking her head off.
* CharacterDevelopment: A defining aspect of Ranma’s character is how [[BrutalHonesty blunt]] he is, which leads to many InnocentlyInsensitive moments regardless of his intentions. However, upon hearing about Mousse’s [[MyGreatestFailure greatest failure,]] he took the time to think about what to say to console him.
* CheapCostume: The outfits Ranma, Ryouga, and eventually [[spoiler:Shampoo, Ukyou and Akane]] wear are ridiculous.
* CityOfAdventure: This is why no one found Beneda’s appearance to be anything strange, as weirdness was a common accordance in Nerima.
* CleanCut: What Mousse does to [[spoiler:the Darkmistress]].
* ClimacticBattleResurrection: In chapter three of ''The Dark Lords Strike Back,'' [[spoiler: the death toll is enormous. Cologne and Meihui die keeping the portal open so the army can attack, Ryouga dies taking out the Youma equivalent of a machine-gun nest, Kuno sacrifices himself to save Akane and to kill an elite Youma, then Kodachi, Ukyo, Shampoo, and Akane are cut off from the main army and are overwhelmed. On the Youma side, the DD Girls and Queen Beryl as well as a huge number of youma. The Senshi all die, but recover. And, by the end of the chapter, so does everyone else. In short, much like the ending of Sailor Moon's first season, only with the addition of the Ranma cast. The interlude's final chapter deals with the aftermath of this and depicts how the characters cope.]]
* ClosetShuffle: An absolutely side-splittingly hilarious scene in Chapter 15 that has to be read to be believed.
* CombatClairvoyance: To Beneda Ranma seemed to have this, not knowing that it was just a combination of his combat experience and his sixth sense.
* CombatMedic: Beneda notes that this is the key difference between Dr. Tofu and those medics in the Dark Kingdom: the former can hold his own in a fight if need be ''and'' is a fully capable healer, whereas the latter consisted of those youma who were too weak to serve in a combat role.
* CombinedEnergyAttack: Sailor Chibi-Moon leads the rest of the Senshi (sans Sailor Moon, who's busy, and Sailor Saturn, who's occupied with holding the line), [[spoiler:with Helios and even Melinoe thrown in]], in one in an effort to [[spoiler:drive back the Nameless One who's managed to crack open a portal to Earth and is raining destruction down on it]].
** Played with. Soap and Herb used this to drive off Beryl; it involved her using a LaserBlade to [[AnArmAndALeg cut through his arm]] in order to combine it with his own.
* ComplainingAboutRescuesTheyDontLike: Averted. While Ryouga hated the fact that Ranma rescued him from the Hounds, he realized that he did need Ranma’s help and accepted it.
* ConservationOfNinjutsu: This seems to be Lao Shihong's way of fighting. Much to Meihui’s frustration.
* ConspicuousTrenchcoat: What Ryouga and company use whenever Beneda has to move in public while Jadeite's youma are scouring Nerima.
* CowardlyLion: The Darkmistress noted Genma as this. While he attacked with far more skill than Ryouga there had been a hesitation there as well, an instinctual reluctance to put himself at risk. A fatal flaw she easily exploited.
* CrazyEnoughToWork:
** Ranma has both the Dark Kingdom and the Senshi genuinely believing both he and Ryouga are threats. [[spoiler: It works...[[GoneHorriblyRight maybe a little too well]].]]
** [[spoiler: In ''Ascendant'', after Ryouga and Shampoo have been on the receiving end of powerful Senshi attacks leaving them too injured to fight anymore, and in Ryouga's case, possibly permanently crippled, Shampoo comes up with the idea to make use of Sailor Saturn's HealingHands. How? By tricking her into healing their cursed forms, after all, who would leave a small cat and tiny piglet in extreme pain like that?]]
** Practically becomes a running gag in chapter 18 where nearly ''everyone'' is coming up with the most insane ideas they can think of because those are the only ones to have a chance. Characters are often heard noting that they're well past the point of sanity at this juncture.
*** [[spoiler:Princess Serenity breaking off part of the Silver Crystal and giving it to Unit Zero, allowing the clone a chance to live without stealing Usagi's own crystal.]]
*** [[spoiler:Beneda trying to save Sailor Moon, who's been hit by a pressure-point attack that's tearing her apart from the inside out, by basically killing her then bringing her back to life.]]
*** [[spoiler:Chibi Moon utilizing the Golden Crystal as part of their final stand against the Nameless One, knowing full well that Melinoe would be able to free herself and join in due to her weakening binds.]]
* CrisisOfFaith: Averted. Boxy became a Catholic priest after being reborn as a human and was kidnapped away from his parish by Tanizaki. However, both this and reawakening his memories as a youma has done nothing to cause him to reconsider his calling. In fact, he’s become more convinced that it was an act of Divine providence which led him to the priesthood. Beneda has some trouble processing this.
* CruelToBeKind: Zigzagged. Kodachi is the only member of the Dark Kingdom invasion force to have not fully regained their memories of the lost year. At first they had tried to restore her like everyone else, but after seeing how violent her reaction was once those memories did start to resurface, they decided it would be kinder to let her remain ignorant of the past that she clearly did not want to remember. However, on seeing the SanitySlippage that this was having on the already insane Kodachi, Mousse decided it would be better to force the issue.
* CurbStompBattle: Happosai vs. an army of female youma. Let that sink in: one of the, if not THE most perverted character in all of anime, attacking an army of [[CuteMonsterGirl cute monster girls.]] Who are, in many cases, quite voluptuous. Granted, it gets turned on him once the Generals show up, but the sheer havoc he unleashes amongst the youma is simply hilarious.
** The only reason why they didn't want him in the army in the interlude is because he's simply ''too chaotic,'' and would be detrimental to the army, despite his massive power levels.
** Chapter 18 of ''Ascendant'', Sailor Moon vs. Tanizaki; [[spoiler: she doesn't even get close, she just uses as much power as she can muster to incinerate him, until not even dust is left. Subverted when he's able to recover even from that and quickly retaliates against her, delivering a curb-stomp of his own, leaving her near death]].
* CynicismCatalyst: Genma’s inability to defeat Happosai when they first met was this.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: D-F]]
* DarkerAndEdgier: ''The Dark Lords of Nerima'' was listed as humor. ''The Dark Lords Ascendant'' is not, for good reason.
* DarkestHour: Chapter 14 of ''Ascendant'': [[spoiler:The attack on Tanizaki's tower fails, most of the Nerima and Senshi fighters are injured to one degree or another, and Unit Zero manages to seize the Silver Crystal, leaving Usagi in a coma. The fighters are forced to retreat with Tanizaki just a hair's width from total victory. Later it gets worse when he launches a [[VillainWithGoodPublicity media blitz]] spinning this as an unprovoked attack by the Senshi and manages to turn the Japanese government itself against them.]]
* DeducingTheSecretIdentity:
** After circumstances bring the [[Manga/RanmaOneHalf Nerima Wrecking Crew]] and [[Franchise/SailorMoon Sailor Senshi]] into conflict with each other, Usagi, Rei, and Ami (Makoto and Minako haven't joined yet) decide to head to Nerima in their civilian forms to investigate their new opponents. The NWC, however, is already expecting them to show up sooner or later, so when three girls they don't know arrive asking about Ranma (which in the Ranma-verse means one of two things: they are either heretofore unknown fiancées or enemies), it immediately causes suspicion, especially since they brought the moon cat Luna, who was also present during the initial encounter. They try to pass themselves off as friends of his, but that is quickly seen through (Ranma is ''deathly'' afraid of cats), and since the crew know of only one trio of girls plus cat that might be looking for them, they conclude these must be the Sailor Senshi. This allows the Nerima crew to keep tabs on them in both forms for the rest of the story.
** Tanizaki is implied to have done some off-screen deduction of the Sailor Senshi's identities. He's shown to be highly intelligent, meticulous in how he conducts his studies, and as the CEO of a megacorporation, has access to vast resources of information -- and he has been observing the Sailor Senshi for some time. It should be no surprise, then, that he was able to identify them by name and where they live.
* DefiantToTheEnd:
** [[spoiler: Genma. His knowing smile and complete belief that Ranma would weather any and all of Tanizaki's assaults against him, up to and including the Wyrmspawn, is enough to make the businessman completely snap.]]
** Even though it meant a slow and painful death, Ryo refused to give Metzger the satisfaction of getting what he wanted.
* DentedIron: During the battle at Furinkan High, Ryouga was clearly still recovering from being hit with Mars' Fire Soul, shown by how quickly he ran out of stamina.
* DidntSeeThatComing:
** Ranma's plan to subdue Eternal Sailor Moon failed because he wasn't expecting for Sailors Saturn and Pluto to take the situation seriously enough to appear. To be fair, Beneda told him from her old youma knowledge that Pluto's task as the Guardian of Time forces her from interfering with most events, and Saturn is considered as a last resort weapon with all of her destructive powers.
** Zhang didn't count on someone actually having an ability to sense him while he was in stealth mode, which meant he wasn't able to get away as cleanly as he'd have liked.
** Ekim didn't count on Sailor Mercury being able to see him coming so she'd be waiting for him, and he certainly didn't expect [[spoiler:her to figure out he was only possessing Ranma just from a short conversation, and he didn't count on Ranma's sheer tenaciousness when fighting for control of his own body or the lengths he'd go to keep Ekim from using it, such as breaking his own leg.]]
** Sailor Moon fighting Ranma, [[spoiler:who's possessed by Ekim]], tricks him into demolishing a fire hydrant since she knows Ryouga and Mousse have Jusenkyo curses, and she figures a small animal would be easier than a powerful martial artist to deal with. She's taken aback briefly when he turns into a girl instead.
** Tanizaki being able to recover from Ranma's ''Tenryu Tonan'', [[spoiler:due to him sealing his soul away somewhere]].
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu:
** Ranma and Ryouga vs. Jadeite. The latter ends up so battered that even with Dark Kingdom medical technology/magic, he was in incredible pain for days.
** Ryouga and Saturn vs. [[spoiler: the Wyrmspawn, which was genuinely believed by ''everyone'' to be ''unkillable''.]]
* DirtyCoward: When Happosai returned to the dojo only to find it ransacked he figured that his students had finally bitten off more then they could chew and were forced to flee. He knew then there was only one course of action: to stay as far away as possible, and come back when it had all blown over.
* DistantFinale: The final chapter of Ascendant takes place after a TimeSkip of [[spoiler:twenty years in the future, after Chibi-Usa's returned to her new place in things.]]
* DistinctionWithoutADifference: From the narration, no less. The cafeteria battle is described as not a fight, just everyone involved trying not to get hurt while attacking their opponents as the opportunity presents itself.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: Genma lampshaded the symbolic meaning of Ranma unpacking his things when everyone moved to Ukyo’s restaurant as it represented his status as the Determinator. While [[DirtyCoward Genma's gear was still very much packed]].
* DoYouWantToHaggle: After helping Ranma find the "magic artifact" he wants to use for his plan, Shampoo explains that it's far too precious to her people, so she can only let him have it for no less than six dates (which should have been his first clue the thing is worthless). He eventually haggles her down to four and a half dates. Now he just has to figure out what a half-date is.
* DramaticIrony: The WHOLE story was built on this. Both the Wrecking Crew and Sailor Senshi are both good people who want to do whatever it takes to protect their friends, but the Senshi are convinced beyond any doubt that the NWC are an organization of warlords bent on taking over the world.
* DrivenToSuicide: One of the nurses tending Ekim [[spoiler: who was eventually corrupted by the Nameless One's influence manages to work up the will to grab a guard's gun and shoot herself in the head, rather than go and bring her daughter to be the Nameless One's sacrifice]].
** [[spoiler:Mousse cuts off Zhang's legs and one of his arms, and leaves him bandages for the wounds as he goes off to aid the others. Zhang, however, lets himself bleed out in an apparent attempt to FaceDeathWithDignity.]]
* DudeLooksLikeALady: Jing-Wei attempted to use a magic locket on Ranma that would force him to have three perfect dates with her, only to accidentally put it on Konatsu. After the spell was over she left, distraught. It was only after the fact that everyone realized they never told her that Konatsu was actually a boy.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: The heroes on both sides of things go through the wringer in ''Ascendant'', but it's worth it. [[spoiler:Ranma has kids with Shampoo and Akane, Ryouga has a daughter with Hotaru, they're all friends with Chibi-Usa, the world is at peace, Beneda is opening her own clinic, and a lost Ryouga manages to find his way there in time to celebrate its opening.]]
* EldritchAbomination: The source of Ekim's power is a being known only as the Nameless One, a creature with enough power to break through Princess Serenity's seals on the Dark Kingdom, block Sailor Neptune's scrying attempts, and come across as vast, malevolent, and utterly alien.
* EliteMooks: A group of Youma known as Darkmistress's Demons. Fittingly nicknamed the DD Girls.
* EntertaininglyWrong: It's almost funny to watch the many conclusions the Senshi come up with what they know about the Wrecking Crew. They're always far from the truth.
* EurekaMoment: [[spoiler:How Ranma pieces together the nature of Tanizaki's FromASingleCell HealingFactor. He remembers an unanswered question of what happened to Tanizaki in the Great Freeze timeline, then realizes through logic that Tanizaki became the Death Phantom. Once Ranma figures that out, he realizes that Tanizaki has a SoulJar that provides him ResurrectiveImmortality, the crystal sphere he saw the Death Phantom wield.]]
* EvenTheLovingHeroHasHatedOnes: A CorruptCorporateExecutive spends the story resorting to everything from {{False Flag Operation}}s to {{Human Sacrifice}}s intended to unleash an ancient EldritchAbomination all in an effort to secure Anime/SailorMoon's power for himself. By the end of it, he has proven himself so despicable, Princess Serenity doesn't even give him one final chance for redemption; she just incinerates him [[ShutUpHannibal mid-rant]].
* EveryoneHasStandards: Hagiwara Daiji was grateful that Tanizaki gave him a second chance when no one else would, and was truly loyal to him. Kidnapping a child to be used as a sacrifice was too much for him, though.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: Downplayed example. After Ryouga is grievously injured protecting her from Sailor Mars, Beneda's masquerade breaks and she begins screaming at the Wrecking Crew, protesting that she'd been lying the whole time and wondering aloud ''why'' someone would go out of their way to protect an enemy of their entire species. After she finally realizes that time spent with those who genuinely cared about her was worth more than any amount of time spent cowering in her superiors' shadows, her HeelFaceTurn starts to take shape.
** Ultimately, this is why Tanizaki's plan fails [[spoiler: because he never once considered that Usagi would willingly break the most powerful magical artifact in the solar system just to save one single life that Tanizaki himself considered 'disposable'.]]
* ExactWords: The Amazons insist that all youma must be killed.[[spoiler: Cologne [[HumanityEnsues turns Beneda into a human girl with water from the Spring of Drowned Girl]] and declares Beneda the youma dead [[FakingTheDead when the Senshi catch up to them.]] ]]
* ExpectingSomeoneTaller: Gosunkugi finds it a bit jarring when he meets the Sailor Senshi and realizes that not only are they shorter than he is, they're younger, too.
* FailedASpotCheck: For all of his intelligence and experimentation, Metzger was never able to figure out why the new batch of daimons he was working on were sick and dying. After regaining his memories of Germatoid's possession, Professor Tomoe is able to pinpoint the simple reason why: their source of energy, Pharaoh 90, was dead.
* FakeRealTurn: [[spoiler:Ranma's plan in the first story was for The Wrecking Crew to pretend to be "Dark Lords" in an attempt to go about FakingTheDead for both the Senshi and the Dark Kingdom, which works, even if there are unintended consquences after the Senshi discover that they're still alive. In the sequel Beneda, in an attempt to raise morale, tells the captive monsters in the Dark Kingdom about the "Dark Lords", and that combined with Ranma and Ryouga's feats liberating the prisoners, and their other feats following it, cause the monsters to dub them their new leaders, making them Dark Lords for ''real'']].
* FakeWeakness: Nabiki intentionally misleads the Sailor Senshi to believe that Ranma and Ryouga [[spoiler: will be banished to another dimension if they destroy a magic bowl.]]
* FantasticRacism: Murata Rikuto, one of Tanizaki’s scientists, hates the Senshi simply because they are [[MagicalGirl Magical Girls]]. This is what he uses to justify siding with him over them.
* TheFarmerAndTheViper: Even though Ranma has had far, far more experience with Genma's personality, he was caught off-guard by his father running away before the battle against the Dark Kingdom.
--> '''Ranma:''' "Damn it pop... The whole world. The ''whole damn world...''"
* FeigningIntelligence: When Ami went to the clinic to learn about acupuncture since the Senshi had already seen Tofu, Shampoo had Genma pretend to be him, as while Genma wasn’t a master of the art he knew enough to at least sound fairly impressive.
* FightingFingerprint: Ranma realized something was wrong when Tanizaki’s reaction time suddenly became slower, causing him to perform more big sweeping attacks in an effort to overwhelm Ranma.
* FireForgedFriends:
** The Wrecking Crew appears to have gotten much closer after the fights against the Sailor Senshi and the Dark Kingdom, as they slowly get over their past rivalries with one another by ''Ascendant''.
** Four Arts of Assassination encourages this. Each student for their first year of training are paired with a partner. They eat together, practiced together, and watch each other's backs constantly. Due to the [[TheSocialDarwinist Social Darwinist]] nature of the school, it is common practice for teams to try and kill their rivals to improve their standing in the eyes of the master. So the pairs had to trust each other absolutely; each of them is the only friend the other will have.
* FiveSecondForeshadowing: "What's a gas main?"
* FlingALightIntoTheFuture: Played with in chapter 16. The Amazons have an artifact [[spoiler: from the Silver Millenium that contains the full knowledge of the person that recorded it]]. However, it's from [[spoiler: [[DownplayedTrope a random civilian mother]] to her daughters that [[SubvertedTrope didn't survive the journey]] to Earth. The Amazons developed their entire culture in honor of this maternal bond and [[DoubleSubversion dedicated themselves to being ready to fight the Dark Kingdom if it ever returned]].]]
* FlippingTheBird:
** Ranma does this to Jadeite after kicking the DD girls out of Furinkan High School.
** In ''Ascendant'', [[spoiler: he breaks his own leg to keep Ekim from making use of his body in another possession attempt then draws a picture of the bird on a nearby wall]].
* FluffyTamer: The Keeper
* ForceAndFinesse: Done in-universe when their group was pinned down and Ranma couldn’t figure out how to break through, as the enemies' attacks were too numerous to dodge. Ryouga called him out for thinking that was the only way.
--> ''Ryouga:'' "That's so like you, Ranma. Always thinking about martial arts like it's only about speed..."
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Several cases of this in ''Ascendant''.
** When Mousse, Ryouga and Ranma first confront the Death Phantom at the start of the story, Ranma issues a formal martial arts challenge. This actually causes the Death Phantom to pause for a few moments, hesitating before finally introducing himself and going on the attack. [[spoiler:During the final battle against Tanizaki, who was himself a martial arts master, Ranma is able to ascertain that he and the Death Phantom are one and the same, the latter having been corrupted by the planet Nemesis' power to the point where'd he lost all knowledge of his name and original skillset.]]
** Tanizaki plays FauxAffablyEvil as he takes Ranma on a tour of his building, showing off a number of collected trinkets. One of these is a suit of supposedly unbreakable armor once worn by an Indian warlord the Nerima Wrecking Crew fought during the new timeline. The armor has a fist-sized hole that Ryouga made when he first used his DangerousForbiddenTechnique to kill said warlord. [[spoiler: This handily foreshadows that this technique is fully capable of killing the unkillable Wyrmspawn.]]
** In chapter 10 [[spoiler: we see Helios perform a ritual to reunite the two halves of the Golden Crystal so Tuxedo Mask can close the Nameless One's portal as Endymion. Ekim, who witnessed the event, had no clue that an artifact of that level of power ''could'' be divided in two.]] [[spoiler: This nicely sets up the possibility that Sailor Moon can divide the Silver Crystal in two to save both herself and Unit Zero much later in the story.]]
* ForWantOfANail: Ryouga's discovery and treatment of an injured youma has consequences that neither of them could have dreamed of:
** Beneda witnesses his strength when he attacks another youma in her defense, and becomes driven to get back on good terms with the Dark Kingdom by directing the Wrecking Crew towards the Sailor Senshi.
** The conflict against the Senshi culminates in a massive attack from the Dark Kingdom on Nerima, during which Cologne realizes that the Senshi--and Sailor Moon in particular--are much more than they seem.
** The above realization leads to an attack by an army of the greatest martial artists and warriors that can be thrown together on short notice against the heart of the Dark Kingdom, which ultimately gives Sailor Moon enough leeway to defeat Beryl and kill Metallia as per canon.
** Played with in the years after the time change, where for every crisis Ranma manages to avert with his knowledge of what happens before, two or three ''new'' ones crop up.
** On an unrelated note, [[spoiler:it was revealed that Tanizaki was responsible for the Great Freeze, as he had gotten his hands on Tuxedo Kamen's blood and sought to steal control of the Golden Crystal through it, wounding the Earth's soul in the process. However, Chibi-Moon blasted away the monster that would have wounded Tuxedo Kamen. It was not without cost, as another monster wounded Sailor Moon, allowing Tanizaki to get her blood, enabling him to steal control of the Silver Crystal.]]
** [[spoiler:In an extension of the above reveal, it turns out Tanizaki did not stick around when the Great Freeze happened, and instead escaped to the planet Nemesis to try and claim the power found there, only to eventually become the Death Phantom.]]
** And in the end, Beneda's joining the Wrecking Crew not only saves Urawa Ryo's life, [[spoiler:but ironically enough Sailor Moon's as well.]]
* FreakyFridaySabotage: During the sequel, the wizard Ekim [[DemonicPossession possesses]] Ranma's body in order to further the conflict between the Sailor Senshi and the Nerima Wrecking Crew. Just as the wizard was about to attack Naru for being a close friend to Sailor Moon's civilian identity, Ranma manages to regain control of his of his body, thanks to a grazing hit of Sailor Moon's healing magic he received earlier. Knowing that the wizard would possess him again shortly, Ranma deliberately breaks his own left leg, all to buy Naru time to warn the Senshi. So when Ekim takes over Ranma's body again, the first thing he feels is incredible pain.
* FreeFallFight: [[spoiler:How the final showdown between Ranma and Tanizaki ends. With both running low on steam, and no more special techniques or powers to bring to the table, Ranma tackles Tanizaki off his skyscraper to subject him to the basis of Saotome Anything Goes.]]
* TheFriendsWhoNeverHang: Ami realized that she and Rei were this when they first met Gosunkugi, as they only really see each other at Senshi meetings.
* FromBadToWorse[=/=]OutOfTheFryingPan: Chapter 6 of ''Ascendant''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: G-I]]
* GambitPileup: In a word, [[StuffBlowingUp boom]].
** ''The Dark Lords of Nerima'': The NWC side is such a mishmash of plots and counter-plots that Rei's fire reading attempting to discern their plans can't make heads or tails of it.
*** It starts off with Beneda's desperate scheme to get the NWC and Senshi fighting each other.
*** Throw in Cologne's plot to keep an eye on her as Amazon tradition demands her death and sends Mousse to be her eyes in the matter.
*** Ranma's crazy Dark Lords plan.
*** Gosunkugi altering the plans and the placement of explosives [[spoiler:on the gas main]].
*** That doesn't even include the Dark Kingdom. Jadeite and the Darkmistress are plotting against each other, the other generals each have their own plans going on, and it culminates with Modra's plan [[spoiler:to discredit Jadeite and send him to his death]].
** ''The Dark Lords Ascendant'':
*** We have Tanizaki's plan [[spoiler:to steal Sailor Moon's power]].
*** Ranma's plan to find out what Tanizaki is up to in [[spoiler:the Dark Kingdom]].
*** The Senshi trying to keep Sailor Moon safe and deal with all the threats popping up.
*** Davidson's plan to escape and use [[spoiler:Sailor Saturn as leverage over Tanizaki to get more of the serum]].
*** And then it turns out that [[spoiler: A youma seer, once known as Bunbo, was also in on this. His actions include [[HeroicSacrifice giving himself up to Tanizaki for a chance to truly and completely defeat him]], [[SpannerInTheWorks tricking Tanizaki into revealing himself and his plans to Sailor Moon early]], and (due to being literally in the enemy's hands and Tanizaki recalculating the risk/profit on him) giving his story to Beneda because he is [[SacrificialLion highly unlikely to tell it to anyone else]].]]
*** Ekim, Tanizaki's hired wizard, keeps seeking artifacts that will allow him to perform a ritual to release his master, the Nameless One. [[spoiler:After his seeming death at Sailor Mars' hands, the Nameless One takes direct control over what's left of Ekim's body and begins making preparations for the ritual itself. It gets as far as locating an appropriate sacrifice before Tanizaki even gets a hint of what's going on]].
*** The cherry on top is [[spoiler:the newly-freed monsters in the Dark Kingdom making plans to defeat the Sailor Senshi by trying to pair one of them with Ranma]].
* GenerationXerox: With the exception of a sprinkling of grey hair around his temples, Lime’s father just looks like a bigger version of him.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: Jadeite to Luna when she entered a HeroicBSOD upon thinking the Sailor Senshi were dead.
* GodzillaThreshold: When seeing Tanizaki's energy cannon guarded by the man himself and the hostages surrounding it, Genma was left unsure what to do... until he realized that Ranma was going to die, at which point the decision is made to unlock the Umisenken.
** An interesting discussion of this occurs between Ryouga and Saturn, who both have [[DangerousForbiddenTechnique extremely powerful techniques that will demand their lives if used]] and that both have survived before only on DeusExMachina interventions and technicalities. [[spoiler: They make the decision to give each other a promise that they will never use these techniques again, on the understanding that if things get so bad that they would break these vows, the threshold has been well and truly reached.]]
* GoMadFromTheRevelation: This was Ami’s justification for Genma’s actions while he was pretending to be Dr. Tofu: his experimentation into poorly-understood and mysticism-obscured ancient treatments, done without proper testing, safety precautions and scientific rigor had driven him insane.
* GoneHorriblyRight:
** Beneda gets involved with Ryouga and Ranma, hoping that she can somehow trick them into fighting her enemies for her. They go from fighting fellow youma who scare the crap out of her to whaling the tar out of Jadeite, who she originally thought was someone you could only submit to, not resist. Then they go after his boss.
** The whole "Dark Lords" plan come the sequel. The Senshi still think they are world-conquering villains and as such are quite prepared to use lethal force against them, especially the Outer Senshi.
** And in the end, Beneda's desperate plan culminates in her [[spoiler:saving Sailor Moon's life. The irony is noted]].
* GossipEvolution: This is stated to have happened after [[spoiler:Ryouga finally kills the Wyrmspawn]]. Those Dark Kingdom monsters that had been eyewitnesses to this feat talk about it to others upon their return, and it continued to be exaggerated the more it was told.
* GrandTheftMe: The Silk Lotus tribe[[labelnote:*]]fighters who specialized in the Iron Cloth technique[[/labelnote]] was led by a man who would swap bodies with a child if he were ever on the verge of death, and according to Cologne he'd been leading his tribe for almost 900 years. Once his rule comes to an abrupt end and his most recent victim becomes free to live his own life, Meihui theorizes that [[spoiler:Sailor Moon's wish]] did not see fit to spare the warrior from the death he'd escaped by sacrificing so many others.
* TheGreatestStoryNeverTold: [[spoiler: The Interlude counts as this, full stop. The Senshi have no idea that they were only able to succeed in taking out the Dark Kingdom because they had so much help behind the scenes. They spent the entire story thinking that they were humanity's only hope, never knowing that the people of Earth had amassed [[TheCavalry an ARMY]] to fight back and [[YouAreNotAlone ease their burden]]. They don't know that the reason they were able to just march up to the enemy base unmolested was because the entire Dark Kingdom was busy fighting off said [[BadassArmy invading army]]. They don't know that the reason Beryl didn't just [[ZergRush swarm them with mooks]] was because they were all either tied up or killed by the army, before Ranma killed off the majority of them. They don't know that the reason they weren't faced with more EliteMooks than the DD Girls was because Beryl needed them to fend off all the Grandmasters that were stomping her forces flat. That the reason Beryl didn't kill Sailor Moon [[AsskickingLeadsToLeadership by herself]] was because she'd been mortally wounded earlier by [[OurDragonsAreDifferent Herb]] and [[NeverMessWithGranny Soap]]. Or that the reason that Sailor Moon was able to free Endymion from his [[BrainWashed brainwashing]] was because all the previously mentioned events forced her to wake him up before he was completely under her spell. And the Senshi have no idea at all about the sacrifices that were made for their sakes.]]
** [[spoiler:Ranma, Ryouga, and Mousse even confronted Death Phantom at one point. Death Phantom is powerful, even for them, and even proceeded to MindRape Ryouga like he did Chibi-Usa. But unlike Chibi-Usa, Ryouga draws power from his depression [[DidntSeeThatComing and launched a]] '''[[DidntSeeThatComing GIANT]]''' [[DidntSeeThatComing Shi Shi Hokodan at him]]. They only served to distract him long enough for Sapphire to get to Prince Diamond. And once again, the Senshi have no idea that they had help from the outside.]]
** [[spoiler:Come Chapter 11, the cat's finally out of the bag.]]
* GrievousHarmWithABody:
** Kuno gets knocked out at one point and Ranma and Ryouga both use him as a projectile against each other.
** In the assault on Tanizaki's tower, some of the hired martial artists set against our heroes are disabled then turned into weapons themselves.
** Ranma also used a Youma body to club Tuxedo Kamen, while Ryouga used one [[NighInvulnerability youma]] against [[FlechetteStorm another.]]
** When the Darkmistress first attacked the Dojo, she slammed Genma into Soun when they attacked her.
* HalfHumanHybrid: [[spoiler:In the 20-year time skip following Tanizaki's defeat, the Dark Kingdom residents have become able to have offspring with humans, thanks to a deal struck with the Musk Dynasty. This results in half-human, half-monster hybrids, with one such person, Glyfa, seen assisting Mousse and Sailor Venus with a mission in the epilogue.]]
* HazyFeelTurn: The assorted Dark Kingdom monsters go through this after they are rescued from Tanizaki's forces. While they believe that the "Dark Lords" are on the level, especially when compared to their former masters, aside from Jimenko it takes time for them to extend the same level of fondness to any of the Sailor Senshi. In addition, they remain in the dark about the truth behind the ruse Beneda and the Wrecking Crew orchestrated and believe that [[spoiler:pairing the Senshi up with the "Dark Lords"]] would be a good way to tear their old enemies apart from within.
* HeelFaceTurn:
** Beneda, who gradually begins to appreciate the strange humans who have helped her, most of all Ryouga.
** [[spoiler:Eventually after Tanizaki is defeated, the Dark Kingdom forces start to follow suit. After twenty years, their relationship with Crystal Tokyo is described as being joined at the hip, with such things as human-youma children becoming increasingly common.]]
* HeroAntagonist: From the Senshi's point of view, Ranma and Ryouga are a pair of inter-dimensional warlords that plan to take over their world and must be stopped at all costs. In reality, both boys are really just a duo of trouble making martial artists that are defending their new friend, a CuteMonsterGirl, from the Senshi.
* HereWeGoAgain:
** Almost, and even reflected on by the character in question, [[spoiler: as Beneda runs for her life from the Sailor Senshi.]]
---> [[spoiler: "Everything that's happened... it all began with me running away from the Senshi. And now... at the end... I've come right back to where I started."]]
** It happens again in the sequel, with the Senshi learning that the "Dark Lords" are still alive.
** Finally, after the monsters present Ranma with a room they think is suitable for their new lord, which is something like a cross between a bad love hotel and BDSM dungeon, the fiancees start squabbling and inevitably blaming him, and start chasing him through the Dark Kingdom. Ranma is actually relieved by it, finding it something familiar that he can hold on to amid all the literal and figurative upheaval he finds himself in.
* HeroicBSOD: Sailor Moon when she thought her friends had been killed by the Dark Lords.
* HeroicResolve: Ryouga was still able to take on Synths with a crushed arm and ribs.
* HeroicSacrifice:
** [[spoiler: Kuno keeps Akane from being killed by a youma during the Dark Kingdom battle, though this ends up becoming moot not long after. Much later, Genma is able to prevent Tanizaki from utilizing a massive energy cannon to kill the Wrecking Crew and Sailor Senshi, albeit at the cost of his own life.]]
** Beneda attempted to perform this upon realizing that the Senshi could still sense her. [[spoiler:Seeing her perform this is what convinces Cologne that the youma deserved to live.]]
** Ryo allowed himself to be caught by Kazuo because he received visions that his parents would be [[MakeItLookLikeAnAccident killed]] in the initial kidnapping, and that contacting the Senshi would force Kazuo’s hand. To do so, he saved a family from a fire during [[SerialKillingsSpecificTarget Zhang's abduction of Rhett Butler]] before turning himself in.
* HiredGuns: Lao Shihong and his men are this. They were the only tribe that required payment to fight the Dark Kingdom. Lao himself put it best:
--> ''We'd have fought for this 'Metallia' creature ourselves if she'd come to us first, and we'd have fought for her loyally. Just as we'll fight loyally for you, until we've fulfilled our contract.''
* HoistByHisOwnPetard:
** The Phoenix People used imprinting eggs to do this to the Dark Kingdom.
** The EvilPuppeteer youma feels what their PeoplePuppets do, allowing Loofah to defeat it using TongueTrauma.
** Wiseman used his magic to send Ryouga over the DespairEventHorizon, but got a Shishi Hōkōdan in response.
** Dragons were once the dominant power on earth during the reign of Queen Serenity’s mother. Eventually, in their pride, they pitted themselves against the Moon Kingdom only to prove to be no match, so they created the Wyrmspawn in a desperate last bid. Unfortunately they overestimated their ability to control it.
** Kunzite defeated Happosai by forming a force field around him and a hundred of his bombs.
** To make sure Tanizaki couldn’t find them (as well as prevent anyone from hearing their screams of pain), Davidson and his men took Hotaru and her father to the middle of nowhere. However, once she broke free she didn’t have to hold back in fear of civilian safety.
--> '''Hotaru''': ''No. You don't understand the situation you've put yourselves in. Because it's just as your leader said. There isn't anyone else around for miles.''
* HopeSpot:
** [[spoiler: Mousse returns to discover that Cologne, Soap, and Happosai just defeated the entire youma army. [[OhCrap Wait, what are the other three dark generals doing here?]]]]
** [[spoiler: Admit it, you really thought Ranma and Sailor Moon would finally figure out how to resolve their differences, didn't you? Too bad Old Man Murphy wanted to screw with him even ''more''.]]
* HostageSituation: Beneda did this in a desperate attempt to escape the Senshi.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Metzger is an EvilutionaryBiologist who has no problem performing unspeakable experiments on sentient creatures, yet the thought that the possibility that one of his lab rats had been the one manipulating him sent him into an UnstoppableRage.
* ImpliedDeathThreat: Mentioned by name when the Generals were discussing what to do if Jadeite was defeated.
* ImpromptuFortress: When the [[Manga/RanmaOneHalf Nerima Wrecking Crew]] find themselves in conflict with the [[Franchise/SailorMoon Sailor Senshi and Dark Kingdom]], and Ranma comes up with his [[ItMakesSenseInContext crazy plan of posing as interdimensional conquerors]], they decide to hole up in Furinken High School as their "evil lair" since they know the layout and can use the home turf advantage.
* IncompatibleOrientation: When Kuno had his HeelRealization and finally realized that Akane and Ranma didn’t like him. Ranma, forgetting that he was in his cursed form, offered him tips on how to attract the opposite sex, being the resident ChickMagnet. She decided SureLetsGoWithThat.
* InJoke: Ranma manages to sneak one into his plan in the first story, painting the kanji for [[spoiler: 'motion', 'contemplation', and 'opposition' onto the 'altar' used in his 'evil summoning ritual'.]] [[spoiler: [[DontExplainTheJoke These three kanji are the principles behind the]] [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere Saotome Secret Technique]], aka the [[UsefulNotes/TheThirtySixStratagems 36th Stratagem]].]]
* InnocuouslyImportantEpisode: [[spoiler:''Ascendant'' starts off with showing Ranma, Ryouga, and Mousse secretly participating in the fight against Death Phantom, showing how they are normally outmatched against the Senshi's enemies, and otherwise unrelated to the main StoryArc of the conflict against Tanizaki. Then in the FinalBattle against Tanizaki, Ranma realizes that Tanizaki became the Death Phantom, which clues him into Tanizaki's one actual weak point.]]
* InsaneTrollLogic: Beneda found the fact that Akane found their shared gender more unifying than the difference in their species rather boggling.
* InSpiteOfANail: Played with. Taro’s curse never reverted back to its original form after the events of the Interlude, so to him it seemed like he'd just gained tentacles for no reason.
* InstantlyProvenWrong:
** Jadeite was delivering a BadassBoast about how powerful the DD Girls were and that he was confident that they were strong enough to defeat the Dark Lords. He gets cut off by their limp bodies getting thrown at his feet.
** While training Beneda, Tofu mentioned how important it was to prevent blood loss. This confused her, as Ryouga was bleeding profusely when he first brought her to the dojo.
--> '''Tofu''': ''Yes, well... Ranma and his associates are not really the most... representative... examples of human durability and healing.''
** Ekim bragged that an upstart fistfighter like Ranma could never thwart his power right before he re-entered his body and felt the pain of his broken leg.
** While tracking down Hotaru following her capture by Davidson (and her subsequent rescue), Uranus makes mention of the "knight-in-shining-armor routine" Ryouga has going with her. Pluto refutes this, saying that there was no indicator of things progressing in that direction and that Saturn would be able to avoid those sorts of entanglements. The scene immediately cuts to Ryouga and Saturn having a moment following Davidson's defeat, which leaves Uranus amused and Pluto looking as if she has a headache.
** Just as Akane was just trying to explain to Sailor Jupiter that Ranma wasn’t evil, he showed up in a OneWingedAngel form due to [[PowersViaPossession Ekim's possession]]. Luckily, the Senshi was aware what was going on.
* InsultBackfire: Played with. Ranma attempted to push Ryouga’s BerserkButton in order to give him a HeroicSecondWind; however, it ended up [[GoneHorriblyRight going horribly right]] as Ryouga ended up attacking him instead, turning his back on the Hounds.
* IronicEcho:
** PlayedForLaughs with Luna and Jadeite. When it looks like the Sailor Senshi and the DD Girls have been taken out and Luna and a heavily injured Jadeite are the only remaining hope to save the world, Jadeite admonishes Luna and insults her pride as a 'servant of Good' and asking 'surely this isn't all your side is capable of', firming her resolve. A chapter later, and a panicked Gosunkugi literally runs Jadeite over, exacerbating his crippling injuries, and Luna throws Jadeite's speech back at him (replacing 'Good' with 'Evil' of course). All Jadeite can do is curl up into a fetal position and whimper.
** Davidson and his mercenaries tell Hotaru that no one can help her since they are in a secluded forest where there's no one around. After Ryouga provides a distraction to allow Hotaru to transform, the mercenaries are preparing to dodge her attacks. But Saturn points out that as they said before, there's no one around, before unleashing an attack that vaporizes an area the size of a small stadium.
* {{Irony}}:
** You can practically make a drinking game out of the number of times the lack of awareness regarding Ranma's ailurophobia (specifically in the case of Luna's presence anywhere near Ranma) on the part of the Senshi/Dark Kingdom pops up.
---> '''Jadeite''': It's not as though a mere cat could do much to disrupt their plans herself.
** [[spoiler:Tanizaki knew who the Sailor Senshi were but let them be because they were instrumental in defeating entities who were going to destroy the world if left unchecked. That becomes ironic when its revealed that in the original timeline before Chibi-Usa's meddling he would have become the Death Phantom and sought to destroy all life.]]
** [[spoiler:Jadeite's last command to Beneda is to kill Sailor Moon. In the FinalBattle against Tanizaki, she does so, but only to save Sailor Moon from Tanizaki's pressure point attack.]]
** Beryl reflected on the similarities of the armies' attack on the Dark Kingdom with her attack against the Moon Kingdom millennia ago. Her domain was under attack from an army that had struck out of nowhere, and now it was Serenity who was determined to take Endymion.
** While being carried by Ryouga, Beneda noticed how similar the buildings were starting to look and thought about how easily she would have gotten lost in such a monotonous city if she hadn't found Ryouga to act as her guide.
** Lampshaded when The Keeper used the same tactic to escape Ranma and Ryouga that Beneda used to escape the Sailor Senshi. Averted, as the Keeper was trying to kill them instead of escape.
** Ranma pointed this out when he and Ryouga were backed into a corner by the Senshi and DD Girls
--> '''Ranma''': ''It's just... I was thinking about if this actually was the end. You and me. Fighting. In a cafeteria.''
** Beneda herself commented on the fact that she was attacked by a monster while in her cursed form and had her life force drained.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: J-O]]
* {{Jerkass}}:
** Gosunkugi. Never once did he think that the whole thing started because he told the Senshi about Beneda in first place. As long as he gets Akane's hand and Ranma is humiliated in the end, nothing else matters to him.
** Kodachi as well. She steals the fake MacGuffin, thinking that it was something to make Ranma love her, causing his plan to be delayed.
* KarmaHoudini: No one ever figures out that Gosunkugi was the one who kicked off the incident by luring the Senshi to Nerima. In fact, the only one who got close to figuring him out was Beneda herself.
* KickTheDog: In-universe, Ryouga sending Luna on a free aerial tour of the Nerima skyline[[labelnote:*]]to get her away from Ranma[[/labelnote]] cements the Dark Lords' reputation as Evil-with-a-capital-E amongst the Senshi.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: When the Youma army switched to guerilla tactics during the Nerima attack, Loofah knew it was time to pull her forces back. Thankfully, Happousai's intervention gave them the time they needed.
* LargeHam: Kuno is in grand form in this fic, but extra-special mention has to go to [[spoiler:"Dark Lord"]] Ranma. [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by Ryouga.
-->'''Ryouga''': Ham.
-->'''Ranma''': Oh, like ''you're'' one to talk...
* LaserGuidedKarma: Davidson and his men threatening to torture Metzger to death if he didn’t give them blackmail material on Tanizaki.
* LastEpisodeNewCharacter: The last chapter of ''Ascendant'' introduces several new characters.
* LetsYouAndHimFight: Basically, it's about pitting the Nerima Wrecking Crew against the Sailor Senshi thanks to misunderstandings and manipulations. It's funny in the original story, but not in ''Ascendant'', where the stakes are higher if the misunderstandings don't get cleared.
* LifeOrLimbDecision: Driving Beryl from the battlefield during the Dark Kingdom strike involved Soap cutting through Herb’s arm to form a CombinedEnergyAttack. In order to prevent infection, Herb cut off the ruined arm.
* LogicalWeakness:
** How does Mousse deal with a shapeshifter who can turn into whoever you most care for? [[BlindWithoutEm He takes off his glasses]].
** When Ranma finally figures out Tanizaki's weakness is [[spoiler: [[SoulJar a crystal ball that grants him immortality]] which must be kept close by to be effective, and turns out to be warded to be nigh-unbreakable, he just notes that he can't break it and tosses the item to Ryouga. [[FingerPokeOfDoom Bakusai Tenketsu]] ensues.]]
* LookBehindYou: Kodachi thought Beneda was playing this trope straight when they fought each other. Unfortunately, the Darkmistress really ''was'' behind her.
* LoopholeAbuse: Mars, thinking that Shampoo was BrainwashedAndCrazy, refused to let the DD Girls hurt her. They in turn used that to avert their EnemyMine alliance.
* MacGuffin: Invoked; Ranma wants the Senshi and the Dark Kingdom believe that the "magical artifact" he uses, which [[MundaneUtility boils liquids placed in it]], is what allows him and Ryouga to exist on Earth, and is what they're using to summon their armies.
* MeleeATrois: The Sailor Senshi vs the Dark Kingdom vs the Nerima Wrecking Crew in the first work. The eleventh chapter is even titled 'Three Way'.
* MetaphoricallyTrue: Nabiki’s explanation for why Ranma was missing school.
* MistakenForBadass: When the Inquisitors first looked into Ranma and Ryouga, they initially thought that they were using aliases since the Hibiki curse meant that not only was Ryouga sparingly seen in public, but it was rare that any of his family would be home.
--> '''Inquisitor''': ''We also investigated his listed address, the Hibiki family home. Supposedly, the sole Hibiki family home. It was empty. According to our scans no one had been there in months, and only briefly at that.''
--> '''Darkmistress''': ''A safe house.''
--> '''Inquisitor''': ''And an expertly hidden one at that. The paper trail for it was perfect. If I didn't know better, I'd say that it really was a family home... that the family simply never visited.''
** Ranma’s life training on the road, combined with his mother telling everyone that he had left with his father to do some martial arts training, made them think the same thing.
---> '''Darkmistress''': ''Or more likely, that she's been enthralled to provide a simple cover story for this 'Saotome Ranma' while he pursues... whatever his goals are.''
* MomentKiller: What's shaping up to be a heartwarming conversation between Ryouga and Sailor Saturn late in ''Ascendant'' is abruptly ruined by a long-range energy cannon.
* MookHorrorShow: In ''Ascendant'', when Beneda finds out she's being followed. She becomes very afraid when she finds that it's a duo of Sailor Senshi that's on her tail, and then she becomes ''petrified'' when said duo turns out to be Uranus and Neptune, the two Senshi who would rather shoot first and ask questions almost never. Remember that Beneda is no stronger than an average Youma, and while she has gained a few new tricks over the years, she's still ''far'' below their level.
* MoralMyopia:
** The Keeper went into a complete RoaringRampageOfRevenge after Ryouga killed one of her Hounds, completely forgetting that she was supposed to take him alive.
** Davidson kidnapped Professor Tomoe to get Hotaru to come with him, shot Haruka when she attempted to stop him, then tortured the professor to get Hotaru to tell her Sailor Moon’s real identity. Yet, he was sent into a blind rage upon finding out that Hotaru killed his men.
* {{Mordor}}: Nerima, at least according to Usagi.
* MundaneSolution: Gosunkugi thought that the Sailor Senshi had invoked some amazing locator magic to track him down, when in actuality they had looked him up in the phonebook.
* MundaneUtility:
** Cologne using her martial arts abilities to give the Nekohanten's customers their orders, something which they view as supernatural but that the Elder believes is nothing.
** The magic bowl used to further Ranma's ruse is essentially a glorified magical microwave.
* MurderIsTheBestSolution: When Nabiki blackmailed Beneda, her first thought was this before realizing that she couldn’t do it without being found out. Thus, she opted for the "CantKillYouStillNeedYou" angle instead.
* MyGreatestFailure:
** [[KillTheOnesYouLove Mousse]] was once given a SadisticChoice by Zhang, choosing his own life over that of his closest friend.
** Soun and Genma have been haunted by nightmares of the time they ran away, abandoning the Dark Kingdom assault before it began.
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: Hagiwara Daiji is an ex-con who was given a second chance by Tanizaki, which is why he didn’t quit when what he truly was came to light. This comes to an end when [[spoiler:he tries to help the girl who was kidnapped for the Nameless One's summoning ritual, only to be killed by Zhang for his efforts.]]
* NecessaryFail: Urawa Ryo chose to be captured and be tortured by Tanizaki's forces instead of letting a BadFuture he'd seen of the Senshi being hunted by the JSDF come to pass.
* NeverMessWithGranny: Cologne, obviously, but the other Joketsuzoku elders who come to Nerima are just as deadly.
* NextTierPowerup: Sailors Mercury, Mars, Saturn and Venus all gain new attacks or abilities over the course of ''Ascendant''.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero:
** The battle between Ranma and Saffron has re-opened the spring at Ho'o Peak, destroying Soap’s bargaining chip to get the Phoenix People to join the battle against the Dark Kingdom. Happily, Beneda's fight against Kiima left enough of an impression that some of them joined the attack force anyway.
** In trying to disable Bakene’s ShockCollar, Sailor Mercury accidently caused it to go haywire.
** By killing Ekim, Sailor Mars weakened the seal placed on the Nameless One.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain:
** Gosunkugi desperately running out of Furinkan caused him to crash into Jadeite, taking him out of the fight due to his severe injuries. In addition, because he’s such a DirtyCoward, he decided not to tell the Senshi about Beneda’s survival upon finding out about this.
** Tanizaki ordering Unit Zero to kill Helios activated Melinoe’s BigSisterInstinct, which in turn made Unit Zero afraid to sleep.
** The desperation and the rage caused by Tanizaki’s attacks allowed the Senshi to draw upon their true power, resulting not only in several Next Tier Powerups but also the systematic destruction of his corporate empire.
** [[spoiler:Using the Nameless One ended with the EldritchAbomination dead for good, killing its cultists as well, which came just in time to save planet Varkus from one of them.]]
* NoChallengeEqualsNoSatisfaction: [[spoiler:After Tanizaki is defeated, Ranma suggests that this was part of his problem; once he'd used his SoulJar to become immortal, he became nearly unbeatable in martial arts, and to someone who derived meaning in life from the challenge, the ''lack'' of challenge drove his ambition and led to his plan to take Sailor Moon's power, after he'd exhausted other options like sending assassins after himself.]]
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: When the Jiuxue Mystics tried to betray the Joketsuzoku, Meihui averted BetrayalByInaction by sending a warning to Cologne. However, instead of simply avoiding the ambush, the Joketsuzoku used the information Meihui had given Cologne to attack the ambush party head-on, wiping them out entirely. Meihui's younger sister was among the casualties.
-->''Cologne:'' "That was how Meihui had learned of the plot, as it turned out. Her sister had slipped word to her, so that she could slip word to me, so that I could warn my people... so that we could repay her with death. And ever since that day, Meihui has hated me almost as much as she hates herself."
* NoMeansYes: In chapter 17, when the Nerima Wrecking Crew is preparing Furinkan [[spoiler: for the 'final showdown' with the Senshi]], Akane asks Ranma if [[AxCrazy Principal]] [[CloudCuckoolander Kuno]] gave permission for this. Ranma [[BlatantLies says he did]] but that he'll double check if it'll make Akane feel better. He then goes to where Mousse has the principal BoundAndGagged and asks him the following:
--> '''Ranma''': Hey Principal. Just wanted to let you know that we'll be taking over your school, [[spoiler: remodeling some of it to make it a battlefield against a bunch of ancient magical warriors, and then pretty much trashing the place by the time we're done.]] You all right with that?
--> '''Principal Kuno''': *Gagged sounds of incoherent fury as he fruitlessly tries to attack Ranma*
--> '''Mousse''': Sounded like 'sure, go ahead' to me...
--> '''Ranma''': Great! You can put him back in the sack then, and [[ExactWords I'll go tell Akane that I made sure he was okay with all of it.]]
* NoodleIncident: Several are mentioned as occurring in the years since the time reset, including an army of ancient golems led by a [[AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever three-story monstrosity]], and whatever happened in India, which apparently took months, and which Ranma tries not to think about.
* NoSell: Ukyo is able to do this to Sailor Mars' Fire Soul with her battle spatula, stating that she wouldn't be much of a chef if her tools couldn't withstand heat.
* NotHelpingYourCase: When Cologne tried to warn Ranma and Ryouga that Beneda was lying to them and that MurderIsTheBestSolution, Ranma reminded her of the kiss-of-death incident, pointing out that while he and Ryouga didn’t have the full details he wasn’t going to trust her on the issue on who has to die. Cologne replied that it was against Joketsuzoku law to let Beneda live.
* NotSoDifferentRemark: Ryouga told this to Beneda after finding out the truth, as her story reminded him of how he got his curse and what he did with it.
* NotTheFallThatKillsYou: While attempting to escape Tanizaki's tower with a comatose Usagi, Ranma makes such hard evasive turns he actually snaps some of her bones in the process.
* NotWhatItLooksLike: Chapter 4 of ''Ascendant''. Ranma's bad luck pits him and the Wrecking Crew at war with the Senshi again.
* NothingIsTheSameAnymore: [[spoiler:In the aftermath of the final battle, there are deep ramifications to those events. Much of Tokyo is in ruins the likes of which haven't been seen since World War II, millions have lost everything, and the government is in crisis. Sailor Moon rectifies the humanitarian situation somewhat by creating a portion of Crystal Tokyo on top of the ruins, but the Sailor Senshi's true identities are now public knowledge, and it becomes clear that they will have to directly involve themselves in political matters going forward.]]
* NowWhat: The Sailor Senshi were momentarily confused on what to do after coming across Beneda being attacked by two Inquisitors.
* ObliviousGuiltSlinging: Professor Tomoe telling the other parents how much he wished that he had the strength to fight in Hotaru’s stead or at the very least help in some way really hit Soun hard.
* OhCrap:
** When Ranma and Ryouga [[spoiler:see the incoming horde of Youma in chapter 18]].
** After four of the DD Girls get ambushed and taken out by Ranma and Ryouga, the speechless Modra starts panicking.
** [[spoiler:"What's a gas main?"]]
** As for ''Ascendant'', this is Beneda's reaction when Uranus and Neptune confront her.
** And this is Usagi, Ami, and Rei's reaction when the learn that the "Dark Lords" have returned, albeit downplayed as they were more surprised than anything else.
** Ryouga gets this reaction when Happosai returns from another panty raid and immediately sees him trying to make amends with [[spoiler:Sailor Saturn]].
** The reaction of Tanizaki's Dark Kingdom guards upon realizing that they couldn’t get in contact with Control, meaning that they were at the mercy of the various demons they had been abusing.
** Though its thought processes are on a whole other level, Melinoe is still adept enough at recognizing fear that [[spoiler:she realizes that the Nameless One was going through this while it was on the receiving end of a CombinedEnergyAttack]].
* OneWingedAngel: High-level youma are seen to do this.
* OneDialogueTwoConversations:
** Ranma giving the Keeper a TheEasyWayOrTheHardWay ultimatum while discussing with Ryouga how to free Beneda.
** This happened when the NWC first met the Senshi, thanks to Beneda leading both groups into thinking the others were complete monsters.
** Luna, thinking that Kasumi was a hostage of the Dark Lords, pleaded with her to let her take her to people who could keep her safe. Kasumi thought that Luna was just worried about the usual dangers of living in Nerima, so she thanked her but declined while citing her family's well-being. While Kasumi was just afraid that Akane would try to cook, her statement confirmed to Luna that she was in grave danger.
* OpponentSwitch:
** Akane, Ukyou and Shampoo either stalemate or fight badly in their respective fights against Sailor Mars, Sailor Mercury, and Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask together. Realizing this, they switch themselves up ([[spoiler:Akane Vs. Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Moon, Ukyou Vs. Sailor Mars, and Shampoo Vs. Sailor Mercury]]) and proceed to (mostly) wipe them out.
** Instead of letting Ryouga have his rematch, Ranma opted to fight the Darkmistress as his fighting style was better suited to combat her abilities.
* OrderVersusChaos: The Senshi have always represented order, especially when you consider that their final enemy was the embodiment of chaos itself. Ranma is something of a representation of chaos as well, considering all the things that he does everyday.
* OutOfContextEavesdropping: ''Ascendant' has Luna go to the Tendo Dojo to gather information on the Dark Lords. There, she overhears Ranma and Akane talking about the usual chaos that afflicts Nerima, and an upcoming meeting with the Sailor Senshi to try and sort out their misunderstandings, but since she misses key portions of the conversation, she becomes more convinced than ever that Ranma really is a Dark Lord intent on taking over the world and the meeting with the Senshi is a trap.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: P-S]]
* PairTheSpares: Ranma, after inadvertently causing Ryouga to lose Akari, has [[InvokedTrope tried to set him up]] with Ukyo (who tried to convince him to keep after Akane), Beneda (who has feelings for Dr. Tofu and just sees Ryouga as a friend), and Sayuri (who apparently he had a good time with but she doesn't want to be with a guy who she may not see for weeks on end).
* PapaWolf: Professor Tomoe informed Ryouga that he used to be a MadScientist to caution him against breaking Hotaru’s heart.
* ParentalAbandonment: Yingjie was the son of a poor farmer who sent him to be trained in the Four Arts of Assassination because they couldn't afford another mouth to feed.
* PartingWordsRegret: Ranma and Soun’s final words to Genma was calling him out for running away.
--> '''Ranma''': ''He saved all of us... and the last thing I told him was how disappointed I was in him.''
* PeoplePuppets: One of the high-level youma is this, using her ability to force Loofah to kill her comrades during ''Strike Back''.
* PokemonSpeak: Yamandakka, a non-sapient cardian, speaks like this.
* PleasePutSomeClothesOn: Ryouga turns his back when Haruka and Michiru transform because it removes their clothes before putting them in their senshi uniforms.
* PoorCommunicationKills:
** The Senshi think that the NWC are a group of [[MultiversalConqueror pan-dimensional conquerors,]] and the NWC think the Senshi are the [[FantasticRacism anti-youma equivalent]] of the KKK. This could all be avoided if both groups sat down for five minutes and talked things over with each other. Ranma's [[LargeHam delight]] in [[spoiler:pretending to actually be a MultiversalConqueror isn't helping matters.]]
** [[spoiler:In the sequel, Ranma and Akane talk about the failed wedding that took place at the very end of the manga, and decided to try and figure out a way to settle things with the other fiances. Unfortunately, Luna was spying on them at the time, and mistakes an innocent conversation between lovers for a sinister plot to take over the world once again while tricking the Senshi into a false sense of security, and immediately warns Usagi to not believe a word they say. Just how much has Ranma pissed off the universe?]]
* PowerUpgradingDeformation: In the new timeline, Pantyhose Taro has submerged himself in the Spring of Drowned Turtle and the Spring of Drowned Porcupine.
* PunchClockVillain: Lao Shihong's Mercenary Clan are for-hire soldiers. They fight where they are paid to, regardless of who's doing the paying, and until they’ve fulfilled their contract they will fight loyally. Luckily, the Joketsuzoku got to them first.
* QualityOverQuantity: The Amazons are vastly outnumbered by the youma forces, but are able to hold their own by being more disciplined and using better tactics.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Ranma delivers one to Tanizaki [[spoiler: right before the latter dies]], on how he thinks Tanizaki took the easy route, using magic and ancient relics to gain power he didn't earn on his own.
-->'''Ranma''': Anyone who goes as far as you did? Just because he wanted to win, and didn't think he could do it any other way? That isn't any kind of strength or bravery at all. Honestly...it's just pathetic.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: [[spoiler: Genma was able to overcome his fear long enough to ambush Tanizaki and his scientists, destroying an energy cannon they were using to attack the protagonists from afar. This gets him killed by Tanizaki for his trouble.]]
* RedemptionRejection: Pegasus makes a personal appeal to Tanizaki's political officer Nagai to turn against his boss, even reminding Nagai of his dreams as a child. Nagai refuses, claiming [[SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids he grew up knowing how the real world works]]. [[spoiler:Sometime after his rejection, Nagai ends up paying the price when he ends up becoming a puppet for the Nameless One, leading up to being sacrificed as part of a ritual to summon the entity.]]
* RedshirtArmy: Cologne fully admitted to Ranma that TheCavalry she’d gathered to fight the Dark Kingdom was this.
--> '''Cologne''': ''Even if it means sacrificing Kodachi. Or Sentaro. Or Akane. Or you. Or myself… Or even my great-granddaughter.''
* RefugeInAudacity:
** Just ''wait'' until you see how Ranma plans to get them all out of this mess.
--->'''Cologne''': That is... impressive. He's actually managed to come up with something even ''more'' theatrical than his ridiculous 'time travelling Happousai' plan.
** [[spoiler:He managed to make it out of the first one, but things get ''much'' worse once ''Ascendant'' rolls around.]]
** It’s starting to rub off on others during ''Ascendant''. Beneda’s plan to rescue Ryo was to pretend she was a high-class assassin who’d infiltrated Metzger’s lab looking to hire him on behalf of her employer.
--> '''Beneda''': ''Please don't let him realize I am that stupid.''
* RevealingReflection: The story starts with Beneda on the skylight of the public library readying an ambush for the Sailor Senshi, then she sees Tuxedo Kamen's reflection in the glass and barely manages to avoid being killed.
* RevengeBeforeReason: Averted. Ranma was afraid that Meihui would use the battle against the Dark Kingdom as an opportunity to get back at Cologne for her sister's death, but his worry turned out to be unfounded.
* RightForTheWrongReasons: Sailor Moon activated Ranma’s curse hoping that Ekim-Ranma would be easier to defeat as a small animal, not knowing that it was a gender curse. However, since Ekim placed his spell on Ranma’s Male body, by activating his curse Moon significantly weakened Ekim's grip.
* TheRightOfASuperiorSpecies: This is Metzger’s justification for his actions: since the creatures he experimented on were subhuman, it didn’t matter what he did to them.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: [[spoiler: Ranma after Ryouga dies during the Dark Kingdom assault. It gets even ''worse'' when he finds the pile of his fiances' corpses.]]
** In Ascendant, Ryouga's one-sided beat-down on Sailor Uranus could be viewed as this. [[spoiler: Saturn also has a moment as she kills the mercenaries who kidnapped and tortured her father. Davidson tries to do this to Saturn to avenge his men, only for Ryouga's rage to eclipse his. It's also significant as this allows both Ryouga and Saturn to realize that they were holding back in their fights against one another.]]
* RuleThirtyFour: Gosunkugi has nude drawings of the Sailor Senshi, which is all that needs to be said.
* SadisticChoice:
** Zhang did this to Mousse in the past. When he and his partner Yingjie fled the Four Arts Assassination School, he cut them both with a poisoned blade then left them with a single dose of the antidote.
** Davidson gave Metzger one as well. Either give him and his men blackmail material to use against Kazuo, which would undoubtedly fail and get him killed, or Davidson kills him.
* SayMyName: Beneda indulges in this after seeing Ryouga receive the full force of Sailor Mars' Fire Soul.
* TheScapegoat: [[spoiler: The Wrecking Crew wind up as this after Unit Zero attacks Sailor Moon.]]
* ScrewTheMoneyIHaveRules: After the Senshi used Helios to explain to people what Tanizaki was doing, a substantial amount of his employees quit. This escalates after the Wyrmspawn attack.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere:
** The Saotome Secret Technique in a nutshell.
** When Pantyhose-Taro has piglet-Ryouga at his mercy, Sailor Saturn fires an attack at him, warning him to stop. Hearing the implied threat to kill in her words, Pantyhose decides to flee. He justifies to himself that he is chasing after Happosai and not that he's genuinely afraid of Saturn.
** Following Tanizaki's media blitz against the Senshi, they counter by telling people in their dreams what they learned from Sailor Mercury hacking his computers. The next morning, his corporate staff has mass resignations.
** After the Wyrmspawn attack, Tanizaki loses most of his few remaining allies, even in his criminal ventures, as no one wants to be associated with the destruction of an entire Ward of Tokyo. By the time everything's said and done, Zhang, Unit Zero, and a handful of guards are the only reliable allies he has left.
** Thinking that Tofu’s clinic was Cloudcuckooland due to everyone’s desperate attempts at preventing her from realizing who they were, Ami eventually just ran out. She didn't even ''recall'' leaving afterwards.
* SeekingUltimateStrength: Tanizaki Kazuo is a CorruptCorporateExecutive who uses his wealth and other resources to track down and collect items of power so he can have them analyzed to find a way to use their power himself. [[spoiler:His ultimate goal is to find a way to seize control of the Silver Crystal from Sailor Moon, which will leave him as the undisputedly most powerful being on Earth.]]
* SelfFulfillingProphecy: Before TheReveal, Chibi-Usa became a ShipperOnDeck for Ryouga and Hotaru, thinking he liked her because of how kind he acted towards her. Ryouga eventually did start falling for her.
* SelfDestructMechanism: One of the Inquisitors of the Black Section used this to get out of being interrogated by Cologne.
* ShapeshifterGuiltTrip: The Darkmistress uses this against Ryouga, Ranma, Kodachi and Mousse, appearing as Akane, [[spoiler:Akane]], Kodachi's mother, and Shampoo, respectively. Ranma and Mousse were warned of her power ahead of time, however, and Mousse [[spoiler:takes off his glasses]] in order to counteract this tactic.
* SharedDream: The sequel has the heroes use [[DreamWeaver Pegasus]]'s abilities to connect to those asleep and conjure a mass shared dream for the citizens of Japan in order to directly communicate with them. This is to counter Tanizaki's usage of media connections to portray the Sailor Senshi's attack on his headquarters as an unjust attack on a honest businessman.
* ShoutOut: The tortoise-shell shield Mousse used to block the Darkmstress’ electricity could be seen as a subtle one for Manga/RurouniKenshin.
* ShrinkingViolet: [[spoiler:Chiyo, Ryouga and Hotaru's child at the end of ''Ascendant''. She is the most reserved of her circle of friends, speaks in a "quiet, solemn" voice, and has only rudimentary knowledge of martial arts compared to the others.]]
* SimpleYetAwesome: How Ranma finishes Tanizaki for good. [[DestinationDefenestration He sends the both of them flying out of the skyscraper]], which is followed by Ranma demonstrating the main specialty of Anything Goes, [[AirJousting mid-air]] [[FreeFallFight combat]].
* SinkOrSwimMentor: Genma tried to play off his suggestion of abandoning Beneda as this, stating that if they keep helping her she wouldn’t learn to defend herself.
* SoProudOfYou: [[spoiler:The final words of Queen Serenity's astral form to Usagi before the former fades away entirely.]]
* SpannerInTheWorks:
** [[spoiler: Suffice to say that Tanizaki did ''not'' expect Genma's attack on his energy cannon, much less its success.]]
** Averting this is the reason Cologne refused to allow Happosai to join the army against the Dark Kingdom. He was simply too chaotic to be counted on to follow any sort of battle plan.
** Akari ended up coming to Nerima earlier than expected.
* TheSpartanWay: The master of Four Arts of Assassination believed in quality over quantity. So after a year of establishing a fire forged friendship he would force those friends into a DuelToTheDeath, then take on the survivor as his disciple.
* SpitTake: Nabiki's reaction when she sees Sailor Saturn walk into the Tendo house.
* SpotTheImposter: When the Senshi went to the Nekohanten looking for information on Ranma. Shampoo instantly knew that they didn’t know him upon seeing Luna. Her suspicions were confirmed when they claimed that Ranma loved cats. So she ended up sending them on a wild goose chase.
* SpySpeak: How Ranma sets up the defeat of the Keeper in charge of the Dark Kingdom's tracking 'hounds', mentioning siccing 'Akane's Barber' on her. Requires a fair bit of trust on Ranma's part as the maneuver requires him to obscure the youma's vision of Ryouga by standing directly between them.
* SquishyWizard: The Senshi are this pretty much in relation to the Nerima fighters. Their various mystic artifacts and magic attacks allow them to deal incredible damage but while they do have a measure of superhuman durability, strength and speed, their lack of real hand to hand fighting ability means that they're generally no match for either Ranma or Ryouga in a straight fight and have to resort to trying to keep them at a distance with ranged attacks. [[spoiler:This is best displayed when Sailor Saturn, the strongest Senshi below only a Ginzuishou-empowered Sailor Moon, is almost killed by a mercenary doped up on drugs, giving him strength and speed a fraction that of Ryouga, in an ambush.]]
* StealthHiBye: Ranma did this to Ryouga and Mousse as they were tailing two youma. They had to stop themselves from trying to wring his neck.
* StealthInsult: As Ranma was explaining how impractical the LeeroyJenkins approach is, his eyes flickered briefly over to Ryouga as he spoke.
* StunnedSilence: Averted. Davidson and his men were experienced enough to dodge despite being shocked at the sudden appearance of a giant piglet.
* SunkCostFallacy: In ''The Dark Lords Ascendant'', this is the BigBad Tanizaki Kazuo's FatalFlaw. [[spoiler:His EvilPlan was to use a clone of Sailor Moon, Unit Zero to take control of the Silver Crystal and its reality-altering powers to [[InTheirOwnImage reshape reality so he's on top of the entire world]] (using [[ExpendableClone spares]] for when [[DangerousForbiddenTechnique the strain kills her]], since he expects it to take several tries). Unfortunately for him, Ranma and the rest of the Nerima Wrecking Crew end up [[SpannerInTheWorks throwing a monkey wrench into the plan]], allowing Sailor Moon to survive and keeping Unit Zero from using the Silver Crystal's RealityWarper abilities since Sailor Moon still maintains a connection to it. Tanizaki, needing to kill Sailor Moon for his plans to come to completion, tries multiple plans to finish her off, getting increasingly desperate as his resources and support base rapidly dwindle and he loses his VillainWithGoodPublicity status in the process. For his penultimate and ultimate plans he ends up releasing the Wyrmspawn, an ancient beast with [[AntiMagic immunity to magic]] that he believed was completely unkillable, and making a deal with [[OmnicidalManic The]] [[EldritchAbomination Nameless]] [[SealedEvilInACan One]] that could result in it being freed, believing that if he can just get Silver Crystal he could "fix" everything the way that he wanted. Ultimately, Sailor Moon foils him by [[TakeAThirdOption splitting the Crystal so both she and Unit Zero could survive]], which [[EvilCannotComprehendGood he can't comprehend, since Unit Zero is disposable in his eyes]], rendering his plans AllForNothing. And that isn't even the end of it, since Ranma manages to figure out that he's using a SoulJar to gain immortality, and has Ryouga destroy it, rendering him mortal again and allowing Ranma to kill him, all of which he could have avoided if he'd realized that he should have given up earlier.]]
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: Played with when Hotaru recognized that the piglet she just healed had the same injuries and bandana as Ryouga. She asked if the pig she was holding was him, and the simple fact that he shook his head 'no' was all the answer she needed.
* SympatheticPOV: Done with both sides of the spectrum. The Senshi view the NWC as alien invaders trying to enslave their world, while the NWC were made to think that the Senshi were a xenophobic group that attacks anything that isn't human. After wising up, the NWC are simply doing what they can to protect Beneda.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: T-Z]]
* TacticalWithdrawal: [[spoiler:The basis of Ranma's plan mentioned above? The Saotome Secret Technique taken to its most absurd conclusion.]]
* TakeAThirdOption: This was how Beneda escaped the Senshi when trapped at a dead end. Beneda threw herself sideways, slamming her shoulder into the bookshelf beside her. While she was still struck, she survived.
** Too ashamed of himself to run away but still too afraid to fight the Wyrmspawn head on, Genma decided to attack Tanizaki’s cannon instead and keep him from interfering.
** Kunzite did this to stop the ChronicBackstabbingDisorder between the generals.
* TalkingInYourDreams: After Tanizaki uses his media empire to spin the Sailor Senshi's attack as being unprovoked and against an honest businessman, he gains the support of the Japanese government and the protection of the JSDF. To counter this, the Sailor Senshi makes use of Pegasus to directly communicate to the citizens of Japan in a massive shared dream. As a result, the citizens rise up to protest and [[UnwittingPawn low-level employees]] [[IgnorantMinion of Tanazaki's business empire]] quit their jobs.
* TakingTheBullet: Played with when Ryouga was infuriated at Ranma for inadvertantly leading Kuno to them when Akari arrived, causing him to attack Katsunishiki before Ryouga could. Since Ryouga had become the ImplacableMan determined to make Ranma pay for ruining his chance with Akari, he knew he had to take Ryouga down hard to stop him. Ranma opted for SuicidalPacifism.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: The entire Nerima Wrecking Crew with each other in the first work. The teeth-clenching part is effectively gone after ''Strike Back''.
* TemptingFate:
** [[spoiler:Ryouga believes that he and Ranma should tell the Senshi the whole truth, fearing what they might do if they're found out with the situation being twice as bad than it once was. Ranma responds, "What're the odds of that happening?" And considering his bad luck with women...]]
** During the setup for his plan, Ranma is asked if things will really work out. We get brief cuts to the preparations of all the involved parties, and then... "What could possibly go wrong?"
* ThenLetMeBeEvil: A rare heroic example. Professor Tomoe had Luna restore his memories of the time he was possessed by Germatoid so that he could heal the daimons.
* ThreesomeSubtext: This is prominent throughout the story. While Akane and Ranma have become an OfficialCouple, the PseudoRomanticFriendship that has developed between Akane and Shampoo has led many to see the three as a OneTrueThreesome. [[spoiler:It stops being subtext in chapter 19 of Ascendant.]]
* TimeyWimeyBall: Pluto brings this up in chapter 19, [[spoiler: when she informs Chibi-Usa that sending her home is likely to be a little uncomfortable this time as the future she was born in, in the aftermath of the Great Freeze, is very different from the one she'll be returning to, where Tanizaki's defeat prevents everything from the Freeze to the creation of Death Phantom]].
* TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth: While Yingjie was a natural genius at martial arts, he was far too soft for the Four Arts of Assassination.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Before TheReveal, the Inner Senshi thought Ryouga was this after he brought Hotaru to Usagi’s place. Chibi-Usa theorized that it was a case of LoveRedeems.
* TrainingFromHell: The training Mousse endured to master the first art of the Four Arts of Assassination.
* TranquilFury:
** Doctor Metzger, upon realizing that Ryu had been lying to him about his capabilities.
** After Tanizaki killed Genma, Shampoo and Akane managed to keep Ranma from immediately leaving and going after him, resulting in this state of mind.
** When briefly held captive, Hotaru is ForcedToWatch her father being tortured. When Ryouga saves her, she goes on a RoaringRampageOfRevenge without once raising her voice.
-->'''Hotaru''' (deadly quiet): ...Dodge? No, You don't understand the situation you put yorselves in. Because it's just as your leader said.''[[ImpliedDeathThreat There isn't anyone else around for miles.]]'' (Releases a FantasticNuke)
* TransformationIsAFreeAction: Played straight and averted. Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune transform right in front of Ryouga and Ukyou when it becomes clear they already know their identities. They don't attack partially because they intend to fight them as Senshi... and because [[PleasePutSomeClothesOn Ryouga turned his back when the sequence left them naked briefly]]. [[spoiler: Later when a group of mercenaries come for Hotaru, Haruka begins her activation phrase, but one of the mercs shoots her before she can finish it.]]
* TreacheryCoverUp: Ranma and Ryouga hid Soun and Genma running away from the fight against the Dark Kingdom from Akane, not wanting her father to become a BrokenPedestal to her like Genma had become to Ranma.
* TroubledFetalPosition: After all the fighting is over, Kuno finds Kodachi in her room, curled around a fairy tale book her mother used to read to her, [[spoiler: still shaken from her encounter with the Darkmistress]].
* TheUnfettered: Tanizaki truly believes himself to be this and that it's the highest of virtues [[spoiler: even as he's bleeding out in the street after his final clash with Ranma.]] [[ShutUpHannibal Ranma's having none of it]], pointing out that [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech Tanizaki's endless drive to come out on top no matter who he hurts is the biggest limitation of all]].
* VaguenessIsComing: Ryo Urawa, otherwise known as Bunbo the Seer, seems to have been invoking this, telling Tanizaki some of what he sees but keeping the rest to himself, trying to undermine their efforts. Tanizaki eventually figures out what he's doing and tells Metzger to [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness deal with him]].
* VanHelsingHateCrimes: This is what Beneda led the Nerima Wrecking Crew to believe happened to her.
* VillainBall: Darkmistress focusing on torturing Kodachi instead of killing her and Beneda.
--> '''Darkmistress''': ''Interrupting my pleasure like that... such perfect, perfect pleasure!''
* VillainHasAPoint: This is why the Senshi agreed to go along with Jadeite’s EnemyMine plan.
* TheVillainKnowsWhereYouLive: In the sequel Ranma opts not to tell the Senshi he knows their identities to avoid creating this impression. [[spoiler: It becomes nullfied when Ryouga later delivers an unconscious Hotaru into the room of Usagi's parents, alerting the Senshi that they do in fact know where they are. Then there's the fact Tanizaki also knew who they are ever since the Senshi first appeared.]]
* VillainousFriendship:
** Lesp and Cortheia. In the few scenes that feature them, they're almost always together. Lesp tries her best to keep Cortheia focused on what's ahead of them, and the latter tries to comfort her the best she can when it becomes clear that they're ''way'' out of their league against the Joketsuzoku. When they're both killed in battle, Lesp's death is directly due to a failed RoaringRampageOfRevenge against their assailant.
** In ''Ascendant'', Tanizaki and Zhang have this to an extent. Zhang is viewed by Tanizaki as one of the few people he felt he could converse with as a near-equal, and he's willing to do what it takes to make sure it stays that way.
* VillainousRescue: Played with; "Dark Lord" Ranma saved the Senshi when the DD Girls turned on them.
* WaitWhat: This is Sailor Pluto's incredulous response when she hears the truth from Ryouga about the attack on the Dark Kingdom.
* WeakButSkilled: Helios. In his battle against Unit Zero, while she was powerful enough to trap him in her dream, she didn’t take away his RealityWarper ability.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: Cologne and Meihui
* WhamLine: Chapter 4:
---> '''Sailor Moon''': [[spoiler:"Are you still going to try and tell us that you aren't mind-controlling these girls into your being your servants, Ranma?"]]
** Chapter 7:
---> '''Ranma''': [[spoiler:"A guy like you? He wouldn't just want a way to ''stop'' Sailor Moon from using her power. He'd want a way to ''steal'' it."]]
** A major one in chapter 13:
---> [[spoiler: ''With a loud'' clank, ''the capsule doors locked into position, now fully open. Then, out from the shadows of its interior, Unit Zero stepped into view. Her face was cast into harsh highlight by the orange glow from all the tanks lining the walls, but her features were nonetheless unmistakable. Because they matched Sailor Moon's exactly.'']]
** And a big one during the final fight against Tanizaki:
---> '''Ranma''': [[spoiler:"I don't need to figure out how to kill you. I already know. I figured it out three years ago. You showed me a whole lot of magical junk you'd collected when you were trying to convince me to join you... but there was one you didn't show me, wasn't there? The first one you ever found. The one that let you live this long, accomplish this much. I'm thinking... a crystal ball about... ''this'' big. Right?"]]
* WhatCouldPossiblyGoWrong: When Ami visited the clinic, Shampoo said this after replacing Tofu with Genma, knocking out Tofu so he didn’t go crazy in Kasumi’s presence, hid the unconscious Ryouga, and informed Akane in time of what was going on. Unfortunately, Ranma had arrived at that moment.
* WhatDoesSheSeeInHim: Ami’s mother told her how attractive Dr Tofu was, so when she went to see him to ask about pressure points she was surprised to find Genma instead.
** Melinoe couldn’t figure out why her brother would fall in love with an insignificant human.
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: The most important lesson Happousai had taught Soun and Genma was that when you scoured away the philosophy from a man, and scoured away his fine-sounding morals, and scoured away his very pride itself... what lay under all of that was one simple question: would he do what it took to survive?
** Genma manages to take that lesson a step further when he’s faced with the prospect of taking down Tanizaki’s energy cannon, which is firing on his son and allies, or saving his own hide.
--> ''One way or another, he would have to face one of those futures. The question was which one. Who did he want to save? And who was he willing to sacrifice to do it?''
* WhoWouldBeStupidEnough: After TheReveal, Ranma forced himself to search for Brenda as he knew that given his injuries even Ryouga wouldn’t be stupid enough to try it himself. He and Ukyo thought about it for a second before rushing to his room and discovering his absence.
* [[WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes Why Did It Have To Be Cats?]]: Ranma is deathly afraid of cats. Sailor Moon's magical girl advisor Luna ''is'' a cat. You can see where this is going...
* TheWorfEffect: [[spoiler:Happosai is easily the most powerful fighter in the Ranmaverse by far. The main characters are literally shown as insects to him, as he possesses more skill in a single finger than a hundred Bruce Lees put together... and the Dark Generals take him down ''hard''. Ouch.]]
* WorthyOpponent: While being bombarded by Ranma's trump card, [[spoiler: the Tenryu Tonan,]] Tanizaki mentally praises him as "a genius the likes of which I've seldom seen".
* WrongGenreSavvy: [[spoiler:Before TheReveal]], the Senshi have made several assumptions about the Wrecking Crew in an attempt to figure out how they think based on the enemies they fought in the past, which is all well and good if they really were a group bent on world domination. [[spoiler:For example, after Ryouga safely takes Hotaru to Usagi's house after she is knocked out by Shampoo, they believe it's to send a message that the Crew know who the Senshi are and where they live. In truth, Ryouga simply wanted to make sure she wasn't attacked by any more monsters while she was at her weakest and the Crew already knew the Senshi's identities for some time now.]]
* XanatosGambit: Knowing that Jadeite losing to the Dark Lord would have massive repercussions for him, Kunzite proposed that the three remaining generals join forces as equal partners, committing equal portions of their armies. In addition, they would share the risk, the credit, and the blame should Queen Beryl be displeased by their initiative in launching this offensive in what was still Jadeite's jurisdiction, thus breaking the deadlock that had formed between Nephrite and Zoisite. However, his true plan was to beat the Dark Lords' strongest into submission so his youma could possess them.
* XanatosSpeedChess: From the time Beneda tries to save her skin by getting on the NWC's good side to the point where the Senshi and the Dark Kingdom are finally thrown off her trail, it's been one hastily applied gambit after another for all parties involved.
* YankTheDogsChain: After years of drugs and torture, years of meditating on the twisting threads of fate and chance, years of scouring his visions to find whatever means he could to nudge the future in the direction that could stop Tanizaki, Ryo was nearly about to achieve his goal... [[ForeseeingMyDeath only to foresee his death]].
* YouAreWorthHell: Ranma, Ryouga and the rest of the Wrecking Crew are perfectly content with dealing with the Senshi for Beneda's sake.
* YouCantFightFate: After receiving a vision that the rescue of the various monster groups wouldn’t come in time for him, Ryo just did his best to make sure that the others didn’t notice anything wrong.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Joketsuzoku and the Jiuxue Mystics were allies at one point, but eventually the latters' elders decided that the alliance was no longer to their advantage and decided to end it by means of a traitorous ambush.
* YouKilledMyFather: Ranma gave a pretty epic one to Tanizaki before defeating him.
--> '''Ranma''': ''I've learned a lot of different things from a lot of different people as a martial artist. So many tricks and techniques, I can hardly count 'em all. Some I got from rivals. Some I got from ancient midgets. Some I even made up myself. But whatever I learned from any of 'em... it was all built on top of one foundation. The style my dad taught me, growing up on our training trip together. Saotome-style Anything Goes. And you know what the specialty of Saotome-style Anything Goes is, Tanizaki? You know the one thing that my dad designed it to be the best at? The one kind of fight where Saotome Genma made sure it'd have the advantage? Midair combat.''
