''Glee: The Virtual Season 4'' was a self-admitted FixFic after the debatable trainwreck that was the third season of [[Series/{{Glee}} the show]]. Notable in that, while diverging from the canon and creating a new season four in this fic, author Sparky Young Upstart continued to keep track of the actual show and either vary TheStationsOfTheCanon or toss them out the window with extreme prejudice. It also had its own version of ''Series/TheGleeProject'' in the form of an OriginalCharacterTournament spinoff ([[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8656280/1/The-Glee-Project-A-Virtual-Season here]]) where the prize would have had the winning OC join the cast.

Unfortunately, the latter fic barely reached a fourth episode, and the fic proper ended around episode 18 - and is now lost due to the forum it was hosted on shutting down and the author's tumblr being deleted and remade. However, Sparky still has the original documents and has [[https://twitter.com/SparkyUpstart/status/1353918544707129344?s=20 expressed interest]] on their personal twitter in reposting them somewhere in some form. They have also begun another episodic glee fanfic, ''Fanfic/GleeReprise'', which could be considered a SpiritualSuccessor to this project.

----
!! This series provides examples of:
* AmbitionIsEvil: Subverted. Unhappy at not being taken seriously and wanting to move up the corporate ladder, Kurt hides his supervisor's article and she lets him write the replacement; he spends the whole episode worrying about being found out. [[spoiler:She knew the whole time, having checked the security cameras, and she brings it up to him later, saying that she understood why he did it and that there's nothing wrong with being ambitious, so she forgives the sabotage this one time.]]
* AscendedExtra: Wes in New York.
* TheBeard: Haley for Craig.
* BigApplesauce: Lots of scenes in New York, naturally.
* {{Callback}}: Lydia makes an offhand reference to trying out the new perfume "Zizes". Lauren Zizes mentioned that she wanted to have her own perfume line titled this back in season 2 of the canon show.
* ChristmasEpisode: "(Re)Union".
* CollegeIsHighSchoolPart2: Nope. The characters who have graduated act like they've, well, ''graduated'', and the plot doesn't conspire to keep them mentally or actually in high school (a common complaint against the actual show).
* CoolTeacher: Puck in episode four.
* DerailingLoveInterests: In a backlash against the episode in which this was done en masse, a number of pairings are still together and a canon instance of AbsenceMakesTheHeartGoYonder was replaced by [[IntoxicationEnsues another form of unhealthy pain relief]].
* DrugsAreBad: Approached and averted. When [[spoiler:Blaine gets hooked on pot]], it's repeatedly brought up by most of the cast that the problem isn't that the drug is bad in itself, but that it's bad in ''this specific instance'' because of the user's desperate circumstances leading him to become addicted even if the drug isn't actually addictive. Figgins certainly thinks DrugsAreBad, though, and launches a mass locker search.
* EvilVersusEvil: Sue and Figgins. Sue is actively trying to get Figgins out of the school [[spoiler:and succeeds, though it's mostly the students' doing]].
* FixFic: Outright admitted. The very first scene has Kurt revealing that he applied to other schools besides NYADA and receiving an acceptance letter from NYU.
* Foreshadowing: From the very first episode Blaine is seen eating junk food and, in later scenes, sleeping. All of these build up until the reveal that [[spoiler: he's become addicted to pot.]]
* FunctionalAddict: [[spoiler:Blaine]] at first, but it quickly becomes apparent that his other personal problems are taking him downhill. [[spoiler:He eventually finds help and gives all his friends his stash in what Sugar deems "Jamaican Christmas".]]
* GeekyTurnOn: Sam is so attracted to [[Franchise/{{Batman}} Harley Quinn]] that Mercedes let him put her on his Freebie Five.
* HalloweenEpisode: "Blood, Night, and the Devil".
* IvyLeagueForEveryone: Partially due to the canon itself, but all the universities used are popular ones to namedrop.
* JerkJock: Marty. He gets better.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: The author describes Blaine and Unique's friendship as a "[=BroTP=]".
* LiteralMetaphor
-->'''Brittany:''' Don’t worry. I've totally been on top of my homework this year.
-->''We flash back to Brittany lying on top of the homework scattered across her bed.''
-->'''Brittany:''' Oh calculus, you’re so weird, yet also comfy.
* LoveMartyr: ''Haley''. See "As Long As He Needs Me".
* LoveTriangle: Rory, Harmony, Sugar is the main one for the first arc of the season. Haley, Marty, Craig is a subversion because Craig is just using Haley as a beard.
* MultipleDemographicAppeal: Invoked. When Sam and Tina are competing in the student council elections, Sam notes that Tina has more of the nerds in the school thinking about voting for her. He promptly walks into the middle of the cafeteria with a microphone and performs the first ''Anime/PokemonTheSeries'' theme song.
* TheNineties: A theme week.
* ObnoxiousInLaws: Poor Will and Emma.
* OddFriendship: Joe and Unique, Lydia and Haley.
* OhMyGods
->'''Kurt:''' Oh, my [[Music/LadyGaga Gaga]].
* OriginalCharacter: A few first-years and transfer students (aside from existing characters who are made into transfer students here as well), with more to come after ''The Glee Project: A Virtual Season''.
* RecurringExtra: Candy the Cheerio.
* ScriptFic
* SpicyLatina: Santana snarkily lampshades her role as such in the Christmas episode.
* {{Spinoff}}: ''The Glee Project: A Virtual Season''
* TheStoner: It turns out that almost the entire cast has at least dabbled... except Brittany.
* StraightGay: Craig, [[spoiler: Sean]].
* SuckySchool: Under Figgins' leadership, the school quickly deteriorates.
* TakeAThirdOption: [[spoiler: The school board has to choose between Roz and Sue as the new principal. They pick neither.]]
* TheBusCameBack: Rory, after ''one episode''. Wes and Harmony also appear, and Sebastian and Karofsky show up in the Christmas episode.
* TheReveal: In episode 7, [[spoiler: Blaine's pot problem.]]
* TheStationsOfTheCanon: Used sometimes (episode 2 being Music/BritneySpears-themed), subverted at other times (Blaine's loneliness [[spoiler:leading him to drugs instead of cheating]]), and averted at others.
* TemptingFate: When Santana laments how her life is going, she's told that at least she hasn't been mugged yet. As she walks home from work that same night, her purse is stolen.
* TitleDrop: "Just Can't Get Enough" featuring a mash-up of the same-titled songs by the Black Eyed Peas and Depeche Mode.
