''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/3236638/1/DJINN-The-Way-to-Home D.J.I.N.N.: Way to Home]]'' is a {{Continuation}} of ''WesternAnimation/{{WITCH}}'' written by [[https://www.fanfiction.net/u/528915/koolkame koolkame]].

Taking place eighteen years after the events of the animated series, the story is about the [[LegacyCharacter about the next group of Guardians of the infinite Dimensions]]. [[FunWithAcronyms Dee, Jamila, Ingrid, Nestis and Nola]] are the inheritors of the Heart of Candracar who have taken the duty of protecting the known dimensions from W.I.T.C.H just as a NebulousEvilOrganization appears with unknown motives to menace the universe. Beginning with Dee's [[BecauseDestinySaysSo chance meeting]] with an older [[TheLeader Will Vandom]] while running from an invisible monster, Dee is revealed as the new [[TheChosenOne Keeper of the Heart of Candracar]] and is taken in by Will as a daughter before being introduced to her new extended family and teammates. D.J.I.N.N. will have to deal with this mysterious threat as well as their own [[DysfunctionJunction personal issues]] as they learn to become [[TrueCompanions both a team and a new family]].

Also has a side story called [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3915370/1/A-Coat-Is-A-Coat A Coat Is A Coat]] dealing with the garment Ingrid Hale inherited from her father [[spoiler: and the role it played in her conception]]. While not a DeadFic, it does suffer from long hiatuses.

----
!!''D.J.I.N.N.: Way to Home'' provides examples of:

* TheAce: Kamal is the most popular guy at Sheffield and incredibly nice to boot. His name [[http://www.behindthename.com/name/kamal-1 literally means "perfection!]]"
%%* ActionGirl: Action Girls to be more exact.
* AdultsAreUseless: Before meeting Will, Dee had this mindset, especially '''Social Service workers and police'''. Averted in the story with the adults in Heatherfield.
%%* {{Alliterative Name}}: Soon to be subverted, but Diana Doe.
* AlphaBitch: Synthia "Cutthroat" Cuthoros. Even Hay Lin is fooled by her little princess act.
* AscendedFangirl: Ingrid has been a "Guardian Groupie" her entire life, due to her mother and aunts telling her stories about their exploits. She even decorated her room in Guardian colors of green and purple. [[spoiler: Nestis also heard stories about Guardians from her father and loved them, but thought they were only legends]].
* BadassBookworm: Jamila, just like her predecessor Taranee. Nola also qualifies.
* BadassLongcoat: The story behind Ingrid's is explained in a "A Coat Is A Coat." She also has one in Guardian form that's Guardian green.
* BerserkButton:
** For your health, don't even ''insult'' Will.
** Between Dee, Ingrid and "Eradicator" Irma, a very bad idea.
* {{Bifauxnen}}: Pretty much everyone agrees that Dee makes for a cute boy. See WholesomeCrossdresser for details.
* BokeAndTsukkomiRoutine: Ingrid is Boke and Nola is the Tsukkomi, except that Ingrid won't take the DopeSlap lying down.
%%* BookDumb: Ingrid hates schoolwork. Hates it.
%%* CastFromHP: [[ContinuityNod As mentioned in the]] [[WesternAnimation/{{WITCH}} original series]]
* ChildMage: Nola has had her [[MakingASplash powers over water]] since she was a small child. Her appointment as Water Guardian comes to no surprise to those that know her.
* ChildSoldier: Not overtly discussed, but Irma makes it very clear to D.J.I.N.N. that being Guardians will force them to grow up faster and strain their social lives..
* CloudCuckooLander: Ingrid has this in spades.
* CoolBigSis: Ingrid to the other girls and she considers DEE to be her new CoolBigSis. The former Guardians may also count.
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: WordOfGod says D.J.I.N.N. is this to each of their predecessors with some degree of similarity as well.
** Dee is the new girl in town, like Will was, but is much more socially savvy and edgier than Will was at her age.
** Jamila is intelligent and academic like Taranee but much more confident, controlled and less fearful. [[WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes Unless it's spiders.]]
** [[GenkiGirl Ingrid]] is almost a polar opposite of her mother, who was closer to the TheOjou as a teenager. The one thing they share besides Earth powers is their incredible confidence.
** Nestis is nervous and uncertain whereas Hay Lin was excitable and driven in her endeavors.
** Nola is a serious young woman who has little interest in romance, a strong difference compared to the fun-loving and flirty Irma Lair. Then again...
* ChivalrousPervert: Belantha, Imran and Cori. Generally good people that are girl/boy crazy.
* CovertPervert: [[spoiler: Nola]] has swiped most of her mother's romance novels and hides them in her room. [[spoiler: Elyon]] is both amused and rather proud of her for this.
* CrashIntoHello: This is how Dee and Will meet at the start of the story.
* {{Crossover}}:
** WordOfGod claims that it will try to crossover with other works but nothing's definite at this moment. The League of Worlds is also comprised of characters from other shows like WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender, WesternAnimation/HeManAndTheMastersOfTheUniverse2002, and WesternAnimation/WinxClub.
** Other original characters from other FF.net authors make appearances (with permission and credit given in their intro chapters.)
* DaddysGirl: In contrast to her strained relationship with Cornelia, Ingrid is close with Caleb. The two have much more in common and have an easier time understanding each other. Elyon points out that Ingrid has Caleb wrapped around her finger.
* DangerousSixteenthBirthday: Guardians usually don't see actual combat before their sixteenth birthdays after years of training. Because of Elyon's presence in Heatherfield W.I.T.C.H. did not have this luxury, but ultimately became the strongest Guardians in Candracar's history because of this.
* DarkerAndEdgier: Than the comics or show, though not to DarkFic levels as there's comedy and fluff to level it out.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Dee's is a major part of her character and other characters have their own painful histories to deal with, including Jamila, Nestis, Belantha and [[spoiler: Will]].
* DrivenToSuicide: Synthia did this to a classmate because she wanted Kamal to be his lab partner, though Ingrid was able to save the girl using first aid taught to her by Will and Cassidy.
* TheDragon: Selene, who is implied to be related to the original dragon, Cedric.
* DueToTheDead: Ingrid and any old members of the rebellion during Phobos' reign wear a red bandanna on their left arm to honor those who fought. Ingrid keeps the bandanna in Guardian form, just changing the color to purple. '''Not''' a RedArmbandOfLeadership.
* EmbarrassingFirstName: Dee hates being called being Diana, the reason being it doesn't sound like the kind of name a girl like her should have (in her opinion, anyway.) Ironically, everyone else seems to love it.
* EthicalSlut: Belantha has no problem sleeping with married people...as long as both spouses are "involved." She also draws the line at age of consent.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Ingrid is said to have many admirers at Sheffield and, as a despondent Zeke states, most of them are girls. Ingrid doesn't mind the attention but is strictly heterosexual (as a despondent Cori states).
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: Jamila and Ezekiel, as Ingrid gleefully points out.
* FlashForwardFic: Focuses on a new group of Guardians taking on the duties of W.I.T.C.H. eighteen years after the canon.
* FourthWallMailSlot: In one of the Fanfiction.net forums, you could have a short Q&A session with the cast, though this was erased some time ago.
* FairCop: Irma joined the police force like her father before her. Dee lampshades this during their first meeting.
* TheFederation: The League of Worlds ([[FunWithAcronyms "L.O.W."]]) is a confederation of worlds formed by allies of W.I.T.C.H. to fight an interdimensional war. After it was won the League stayed together and proved so effective at countering threats that W.I.T.C.H. was able to retire much earlier than most Guardian teams.
* FourGirlEnsemble: Played with. Dee and Ingrid are the mannish snarkers, but Ingrid is also the sexy one and TeamMom while Dee is the WildCard and TeamDad. Nestis is the sweet girl but is just as smart as the others. Nola is considered the prettiest but is also intelligent. Jamila is the TheSmartGuy but also as fashionable as Nola.
* FunPersonified: Ingrid, life of the party in any dimension.
* FunWithAcronyms: Played Straight with all three generations of Guardians: CHYKN, WITCH and DJINN. Hay Lin even thinks up DJINN's acronym like she did with their predecessors as a nod to the television series and comic. There's also an interdimensional organization called the League of Worlds (L.O.W.)
* HeroicBastard:
** Ingrid who was 3 when her parents finally wed. She plays it off nonchalantly stating:
--->Ingrid: [[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment "...that means I'm illegitimate. I'm a product of passion, yep, an homage to hormones, a bounty of booty call..."]]
** [[spoiler: Will herself. Susan was pregant with her when she married Tony Vandom, partially due to Will but also because Tony wanted to marry her regardless. Will isn't upset by this in the least, either]].
* HonoraryUncle: Ingrid with all of WITCH, plus Aunt Elyon, Uncle Aldarn, Aunt Orube, "Unka Blunk"... add in the crossover factor and Ingrid has more Honorary Aunts and Uncles than most people have biological relatives, ex. "[[WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom Uncle Danny.]]"
* HugeSchoolGirl: Ingrid is a head taller than the other girls. Transformed Ingrid turns this up to 11 being '''''6 foot 8 inches''''' towering over her own father. Unlike most examples Ingrid shows no sign of self-esteem issues because of her height, something Cornelia notes to herself in "A Coat Is A Coat."
* IAmNotPretty:
** Zigzagged with Dee, who agrees she makes for a cute boy, but does not think she is pretty as a girl due to her self-image issues.
** There's also the added deterrent of [[spoiler: her foster father trying to molest her the last time she tried to look feminine]].
* TheImmodestOrgasm: Dee '''''really''''' enjoys her food. Justified as she's been eating in dumpsters and stealing from restaurants and grocery stores for almost a year.
-->Ingrid: "[[ShoutOut I'll have what she's having.]] On second thought, I think I'll wait til I'm married, 'cuz it's a sin to enjoy food that much."
%%* ImportantHaircut
* ImTakingHerHomeWithMe: Will [[MamaBear ferociously]] paraphrases this when Hay-Lin asks if she could adopt Dee instead.
* InadequateInheritor: Nola is this for the throne of Meridian, but only because she isn't of the royal blood line. If anything, she's more qualified than Elyon was when she became Queen because she was raised as a royal.
* IncrediblyLamePun:
** Quite a few but none more so about the BreastExpansion of Nestis' [[BlowYouAway the air guardian.]] mammaries which had ''ballooned'' even larger than Jamila's. Ironically, Nestis is one of the UsefulNotes/{{Pettanko}}es of the group in her real form.
** Then there was this little gem
---> Will: Nola, you can call me Will, you know. I mean I changed your diapers.
---> Nola: And I thank you for that...Will. You were very good at it according to mother.
---> Ingrid: Talk about doing the "Royal Doody" (CollectiveGroan) Sorry it had to be said.
---> Nola: [[LampshadeHanging Did it really?]]
* InTheBlood: Discussed in regards to Ingrid's relation to Nerissa and the possibility of her falling into VillainousLineage, although thankfully for her sake, she falls under HeroicLineage instead in regards to Caleb and Cornelia.
* InvisibleStreaker: [[spoiler: Nestis, on a dare during the sleepover]].
* JumpedAtTheCall: Dee, Ingrid, and Nola all jumped at it with different reasons. Ingrid being the [[GenkiGirl most enthusiastic.]]
%%* {{Kidanova}}: Ingrid, Cori and Imran.
%%* LargeHam: Ingrid
* LethalChef:
** Will's lasagna is considered a bio-hazard. It crunches. The fact that Dee has no problems eating it amazes her friends. Ezekiel also mentions her brownies being good once you get past the "hard part." WordOfGod says that Will overcooks her food due to a past incident of accidental food poisoning.
** Will claims her mother isn't any better, though that might be sour grapes given the relatively tasty spread set out during Dee's visit.
* LikesOlderWomen: Maqi about Elyon, despite Elyon only having four years on him. Imran also has no problem flirting with older women (or men, for that matter.) Jamila's crush on Caleb, of course, and Ingrid says that many girls at her school have crushes on him.
* LookingForLoveInAllTheWrongPlaces: Nestis' mother Racquel has a habitual trend of going to the bar and coming back with one night stands. All are considered symptoms of her near-crippling depression from the death of her husband.
* TheMatchmaker: All of Will's friends want her to at least be with a guy, [[SarcasmMode she politely refuses.]] Her mother Susan is even worse about this and [[IWantGrandkids grandchildren.]] Ingrid loves to do this with her friends, family... '''''everybody.'''''
* MeaningfulName: Explained in one of the chapters on how the author came up with the names.
* TheMentor: Both former groups of Guardians help out with the girls, each specifically tutoring the girl with their element.
* MosesInTheBulrushes: In her BackStory, [[spoiler: Nola]] was found in almost the same way as the TropeNamer.
* MostCommonSuperPower: While not as big when in "civilian mode", like their predecessors, this is the first thing they notice when transformed. [[UsefulNotes/{{Pettanko}} Nestis]], ironically, has this trope the most.
* NoodleIncident: Dee has [[DoesNotLikeMen androphobia]] due to something happening at her at her last foster home. Not all are bad as one involves a car, the garage door and an eight year old Ingrid.
* NoPeriodsPeriod: Subverted, especially by the Water Guardians who due to their powers are most affected by the water retention. Also, YouDoNotWantToKnow. Just ask [[spoiler: the Oracle]].
* OfficialCouple: Played straight and subverted. Caleb and Cornelia are married and Hay Lin and Eric engaged; however Matt and Will are, at the moment, split up. WordOfGod said this is because one of his reviewers asked why should the girls stay with their boyfriends at the junior high level. Irma and Martin are also married, though they're only [[ShipTease teased at]] on the show.
* OlderThanTheyLook:
** Dee thinks [[spoiler: Susan]] looks too young to be a grandmother, greatly endearing herself to the woman.
** Cassidy of CHYKN, due the events of Season Two where [[spoiler: she was resurrected by Nerissa after being dead for forty years]]. Dee notes this as odd but doesn't point it out at the time.
* OldSuperHero: WITCH and CHYKN, especially for CHYKN. The two older generations take an active role in mentoring DJINN, however.
* OldMaid: Elyon and Will are mentioned to be this; Will doesn't mind and actually takes offense to it, remarking that if they had be transported to the 1950s, while Elyon definitely feels the need to be in a relationship and is currently courting the not much younger Maqi.
* OneLetterName: While more of phonetic nickname than just being a single letter, Dee and Will's sister Bee ("Beatrice") prefer the shortened version of their names. See below.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Despite her true name Diana she insists on being addressed as Dee. Nola, however, refuses to do so due to her noble upbringing. It sparks discussions as famous as the "Don't call me Corny." of old.
* OriginalCharacter: Many, since the story is a {{Continuation}}. Notable examples are Belantha (who appeared in an earlier story of the author's) and her son Imran, D.J.I.N.N. themselves and Will's younger sister Beatrice (created before William appeared in the comic) as well as some (credited) cameos from other authors.
* PapaWolf: According to Caleb, [[ChivalrousPervert Imran]] is not allowed anywhere near Ingrid or even his [[HonoraryUncle Honorary Niece]] Nola; not even the same dimension if he can help it. Elyon tells him he's over-reacting, but it doesn't take.
* ParentalAbandonment: A surprising amount of it in contrast to the nuclear families of W.I.T.C.H. With Cornelia being a supermodel and Caleb being Captain of the Guard in Meridian, Ingrid was raised by the other girls and has a hard time identifying herself with her parents, especially Cornelia. Dee is implied to have been abandoned at birth. Nola was found by Queen Elyon floating on a river, [[WhatDoYouMeanItsNotSymbolic what that means is on you.]] Jamila lost both her parents at an early age and Nestis recently lost her father.
* ParentalSubstitute: In the maternal sense, Will became this to Ingrid due to Cornelia's long absences. Ingrid even admits to Nola that she sees Will as her mother instead of Cornelia.
* PoliceAreUseless: A large part of Dee's problem with Irma is her feelings about this due to her BackStory. It's averted by Irma and her partner who quickly deduce that Will and Dee left Will's apartment and track down where they went (albeit with some help from Irma's Guardian powers).
* PossessionImpliesMastery: Played with right in the first chapter Dee knows how to [[ShockAndAwe use lightning]]. Subverted by Nestis who uses a bit too much power and ends up making a tornado that [[HilarityEnsues sends Dee flying.]]
* PosthumousCharacter: Phobos and Cedric are confirmed to be deceased by DJINN's time, Cedric's end was implied to have been "messy."
%%* PowerIncontinence: Nestis.
* RapidHairGrowth: When Nola is in her Guardian form, her hair grows even longer.
* RedOniBlueOni: Ingrid (wears a red bandanna on her arm.) and Nola (wore blue on her first meeting with the other guardians) again. [[LampshadeHanging Dee asks if this is routine for them.]]
* RedPillBluePill: Irma offers this. All the girls take the red pill, though [[spoiler: Nestis]] was the most reluctant due to [[spoiler: her overprotective mother]].
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: Nola tries very much to be this. Queen Elyon very much ''is'' this, to the point that when she doesn't have something to do, she gets terribly bored.
* SheIsAllGrownUp:
** Elyon, and she knows it, intentionally Invoking the SexySweaterGirl trope for the dinner at the ''Silver Dragon''.
** Invoked by the author for W.I.T.C.H., especially Will whose possible adult appearance was one of the inspirations for the fic. This is freely admitted to be AuthorAppeal in the chapter notes.
* SitcomArchNemesis: The adults think that Ingrid and Synthia are this, but WordOfGod says they really do hate each other.
* SpySpeak: The codes for the Hale family voice-activated security system come off as these to those not in the know. "Name: Guardians Unite"="Everything's okay; let me in." while "Name: Phobos" means "Everything's ''not'' okay; call Auntie Irma and the cops!"
* StacysMom: Jamila has had a major crush on Caleb for years. No one, including Jamila, believes she has any chance with him since he's HappilyMarried and has no clue his daughter's friend is interested in him.
* {{Technopath}}:
** Thanks to Dee's power over Quintessence, life energy and electricity, the Guardians (and only in Dee's proximity) are able to hear machines speak. [[HilarityEnsues Which makes going to the bathroom kinda difficult.]]
** [[spoiler: Will can no longer do this for unspecified reasons.]]
* ThemeSong: "''As It All Goes Dark''," co-written by the author and [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/791477/strayphoenix strayphoenix]]. An more elaborate InUniverse version is sung by one of strayphoenix's characters in the story.
-->To all an end, the only truth,
-->Of my devotion my only proof,
-->Til the end of time I hold you here,
-->For you I fight for the end of fear...
-->Pain is given by life freely,
-->Thunder's roar drowns completely,
-->Every storm an end, each enemy a friend,
-->Life is a battle, but you I defend...
-->Journeys present and past the same.
-->life forever to heroes in name,
-->But fate leaves me to fight alone,
-->Every way to your soul my homeā€¦
-->Hold back the touch of final night,
-->Burn brightly, the dying light ignite,
-->Far from you I march, don't forget my heart
-->Let it warm you as it all goes dark...''
-->[[TitleThemeTune DJINN!]]
* TheNotLoveInterest: Dee to Will and vice-versa. Ingrid even lampshades how quickly the two have fallen in love with each other.
%%* TheRunaway: Dee.
* SociallyAwkwardHero: Dee is less intimidated about being a Guardian than reintegrating into normal society (ex. school, etc.) Irma warns DJINN about this very trope.
%%* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Ingrid and Nola.
%%* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Dee+Strawberries= <3
* TrueCompanions: The Guardians are this regardless of which generation, so much so that their get-togethers resemble family reunions. Ingrid immediately proclaims DJINN as her sisters, even though she had only known Dee for an hour at that point.
* {{Tsundere}}: Ingrid describes Nola as a Type A to Dee, while Nola shows Type B attitude to Jamila and Nestis.
* TwentyMinutesIntoTheFuture: If WesternAnimation/{{WITCH}} ended in '06 then this takes place in the year 2024 ([[WordOfGod the author says it does]]). Where glasses, unless preferred, are outdated and cellphones are now comparable to the Atari 2600.
* WhereTheHellIsSpringfield:
** Seeing as Heatherfield had no true location in the original series, [[InformedLocation other than being somewhere in America]], WordOfDante says that it may be in northern California.
** For DJINN it's somewhere in the Pacific Northwest, [[ShrugOfGod more or less.]]
* WholesomeCrossdresser:
** Dee is so good at it she can make people think she's a boy in girl's clothing.
** Actually a fashion statement according to Cornelia.
