''[[http://www.fimfiction.net/story/71660/a-mighty-demon-slayer-grooms-some-ponies A Mighty Demon Slayer Grooms Some Ponies]]'' is a WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic fanfic by Creator/DGDDavidson, about a girl brushing the manes of cute ponies. [[SarcasmMode As this premise would imply]], the story is serious, dark and moody.

The story is a exercise in CanonWelding of G1 and G4 of ''Franchise/MyLittlePony''. It stars Megan, the KidHero of G1, several years later as a troubled high-school girl who is trying to forget about her past. But the past comes knocking in the form of six ambassadors from Equestria; [[YearInsideHourOutside five thousand years have passed in Ponyland]], and the small population from Dream Valley has blossomed into the empire of Equestria. The ponies now want to make contact with the human world, and they figure out that the best way to reveal themselves is to enter a horse show (because that's where you show ponies, right?). Of course, they need to be properly groomed, and who's a better choice than the legendary Magog the Mighty (Megan) and her siblings, Moloch (Molly) and Danel (Danny)?

Megan herself, though, is not happy about being reminded of her time in Ponyland, which wasn't exactly sugar-sweet...

While originally inspired by the ''[[http://www.fimfiction.net/story/59904/bathtime-for-ponies Bathtime for Ponies]]'' SugarWiki/{{WAFF}} series, it has since grown into a serious, DarkerAndEdgier interpretation of G1.
----
!!This fic features the following tropes (note: only these unique to this story, not the original G1 ''Franchise/MyLittlePony''):
* AdultChild: Surprise, running away from Wind Whistler's compulsory military service and preferring to play with Danny all day.
* DeathByAdaptation: Queen Majesty, who appeared in the G1 toyline and comics, but not the ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyAndFriends'' show, is explained to have died before Megan's arrival into Ponyland.
* DeconstructionFic: The story explores just how would a KidHero's youth be affected by being forced into the role of a monster-killing hero and into a mother figure for an entire species (and being forced to ShootTheDog a couple of times).
* DisappearedDad: Megan's father, whom she idolized, ran away with another woman. Serves a catalyst for a lot of resentment.
* DoesNotLikeMen: Megan, because of her father. She is particularly harsh toward the Big Brother Ponies and Danny and some of her statements show her to have an IrrationalHatred of them. She displays an agreement with the Flutter Pony policy of keeping the males hidden away in the dwelling places looking after the children and taking care of the domestic chores. Finally, she becomes verbally and physically abusive to Twilight after mentioning she has an interest in a boy (Flash Sentry) and tries to defend him from Megan's insults.
* ExoticExtendedMarriage: Megan establishes harem-like herd relationships among ponies as a necessity, since there are [[ImprobablyFemaleCast so few stallions compared to mares]]. Not all the ponies like it, though.
** Eventually, some ponies rebel against this idea, and a traditional marriage is one of their first acts of revolt.
* FriendlessBackground: Megan. It's hard to make friends when everyone else's interests seem to revolve around boyfriends, fashion and the like, instead of farm work (and SavingTheWorld.)
* TheGhost: Megan's mother. She's mentioned a couple of times, but she is never seen (not having time for her children after her husband had eloped).
* HumanlikeAnimalAging: ZigZagged. In the ancient era, Ponyland's ponies age like horses (a pony remarks about an eleven-year-old human that it's "two in human years"). Over the next several thousand years (by the ''Friendship is Magic'' era) they become much more humanlike, including a human lifespan.
* {{Hypocrite}}: [[spoiler: Wind Whistler, viewing herself as infallible and wanting to force the world to be like her.]]
--> [[spoiler:'''Wind Whistler:''' If I am to build my empire of love and tolerance, I cannot tolerate someone who will not share my vision, even if that someone is you [Megan].]]
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: Megan still isn't happy about many of the things she was forced to do as a protector of Ponyland and even says the phrase at one point. This also includes [[spoiler: killing Wind Whistler before she could become a tyrant]].
* InsistentTerminology: After getting fed up with Wind Whistler's increasingly draconian policies and refusing to acknowledge their crippling claustrophobia in work assignment, all of the Twinkle-Eyed ponies go on an exodus northward (and it's implied they would become [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS3E1TheCrystalEmpirePart1 the Crystal Ponies]]). Afterwards, whenever the Twinkles were mentioned around Wind Whistler, she would only call them "the deserters" and demand others do the same.
* InterspeciesRomance: [[spoiler:Danny's mild crush on Surprise. Also counts as a PrecociousCrush, as Surprise is an adult pony at the time (even if she's not very mature) and he is eleven. Come chapter seven, it's plain to see that he's developing feelings for Pinkie Pie, who reminds him so much of Surprise.]]
** Eventually revealed to have happened between [[spoiler: Megan's father and Celestia and Luna's mother.]]
* IntriguedByHumanity: Heart Throb would rather be a human (or at least [[InterspeciesRomance with a human]]), since they have such romantic (and monogamous) weddings.
* IronicNurseryTune: Megan half-consciously sings the old ''Franchise/MyLittlePony'' theme song after she [[spoiler:kills Wind Whistler.]]
* LadyLand: Queen Rosey comments that the Flutter Ponies keep their stallions at home and safely tucked away, looking after the children, instead of allowing them to roam far and free as the Dream Valley ponies did.
* LastSecondWordSwap: Molly just barely stops herself from telling Fluttershy about a horse that they had to put down, instead saying that he was put... into a retirement home.
* LiteralSplitPersonality: [[spoiler:All the ponies created by Queen Majesty were representations of various aspects of her personality. This is also why she created so few males.]]
* MisterSeahorse: About midway through the story, it's commented that the sea ponies have a similar setup to seahorses, where the stallions incubate/brood the foals. As a result, the female sea ponies that the Dream Valley ponies encounter are essentially the sea pony equivalents of the big brother ponies. This is also why the sea ponies are ruled over by a king, rather than a queen or princess, as the sea ponies believe that motherhood and the responsibility it brings are essential traits to be a good ruler.
* NonIndicativeName: The fic is a lot more serious than you might think.
* PastExperienceNightmare: Megan mentions having nightmares for months after facing (and killing) [[BigBad Tirac]]. She was, after all, just a kid.
* PromotionToParent: Deconstructed by Megan taking on so much responsibility for Danny and Molly after her father's disappearance that she can't relate to them as a sibling anymore. Her mother is technically still around but is too busy running their farm to even be seen in the story.
* SeriousBusiness: Grooming ponies.
-->"The future of two worlds depends on you having a well-brushed coat!"
* ShownTheirWork: The author made sure to research horse grooming in order to depict it accurately.
* ShroudedInMyth: Megan (and Molly and Danny) are remembered in Equestria as godlike warriors rather than the ordinary people they actually are.
* TheSpock: Wind Whistler, being the ponification of Majesty's logic. {{Deconstructed}}, as her intelligence gives her an incredible ego, and her disdain for emotions drives away most of her friends. [[spoiler: Eventually, viewing feelings as irrelevant, she eventually plots to throw a coup and conquer everything beyond the Dream Valley]].
* StrawNihilist: [[spoiler:Wind Whistler eventually becomes this.]]
* TakeOurWordForIt: After Megan casually mentions how she had to euthanize her favorite horse because he broke his legs [[RightInFrontOfMe in front of Fluttershy]], she hits Megan with [[DeathGlare The Stare]]. It was so intense that she blacks out instantly and wakes up in a pile several hours later.
* TheyWouldCutYouUp: Megan has a [[NightmareSequence nightmare]] about this happening to the ponies (complete with a German-speaking MadDoctor), even after Danny persuades her that "vivisecting friendly talking animals only happens in dumb sci-fi cartoons".
* TheseHandsHaveKilled: Megan feels lingering feelings of guilt after having to put down her favorite horse T.J. after he snapped his legs, especially after she's visited a world where horses are every bit as sapient as humans. [[spoiler: But this pales compared to her feelings after killing Wind Whistler in self-defense after Whistler judges Megan a threat to her vision for her empire. Megan continues to have nightmares for years.]]
* UncannyValley: The twinkle-eyed ponies' faces, due to their unmoving eyes, elicit this response from normal ponies and humans alike.
* UnwantedFalseFaith: Megan isn't very happy about being revered as the [[MessianicArchetype pony Messiah]], especially since she's a Christian.
* WhamEpisode: Chapter Seven. Where we finally learned what happened the last time Megan visited and left Dream Valley.
* YearInsideHourOutside: Five thousand years passed in Ponyland while only five years passed in Megan's world.
----

Originally, the story had an eight chapter, where it was revealed that Princesses Celestia and Luna are actually old enemies Tirac and Grogar, who have been secretly protecting and ruling the Ponies since the destruction of Dream Valley, all as part of a far-reaching scheme to eventually have revenge on Megan. The massive amount of controversy this elicited, from sheer fan disapproval of the PlotTwist to the constant comments on the sheer absurdity of them actually maintaining such a ploy for ''five thousand years'', resulted in the author officially discanonifying that chapter and removing it (the original text used to be preserved in a blog entry, [[MissingEpisode which is now deleted]]).

The author intended to publish a revised final chapter, but never completed it, having lost interest in the fandom in the meanwhile; luckily, the last scene of the would-be revised ending was eventually [[http://www.fimfiction.net/blog/497130/the-ending published separately as a blog entry]].
----
!!Tropes associated with the "lost chapter" are:
* ActuallyADoombot: The Queen Majesty who died was revealed as this.
* BecomingTheMask: Grogar admits to a minor case of this. He seems to shake it off however
* ComplexityAddiction: For Tirac's plan to succeed, he needed to wait for the rainbow bridge to open again, take the elements to Earth to subvert their power to have a superweapon ready, unleash HellOnEarth in Equestria and hope his mother actually shows up, all the while posing as the good guy so no heroes thwart him before he is ready. As it turned out, it took 5000 years for the bridge to re-open.
* EvilVsEvil: For their plan to work, Grogar and Tirac had to keep other villains off their turf. They ended up fighting both Sombra and Discord.
* FreudianExcuse: Tirac has some serious ParentalAbandonment issues.
* GambitPileup: The whole of G1 and G4 turns out to be a single one between Majesty, Tirac, Grogar and G1 Twilight.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: As a side effect of maintaining their ruse, Tirac and Grogar gave Equestria a couple thousand years of prosperity. For all their villainy, they seem to be more efficient at good than evil.
* RevengeBeforeReason: Tirac spent 4500 years pretending to be a benevolent ruler, just for a chance to get his revenge.
* WeCanRuleTogether: Tirac tries to pull this on Megan, [[NotSoDifferentRemark claiming that they are aren't so different]]. [[spoiler: Since he is only half right, this fails.]]
* WhamEpisode: The chapter, when it originally existed.
* WhenThePlanetsAlign: The villains' plan requires the rainbow bridge to reopen. It makes the whole scheme last thousands of years.
