''No Chance For Fate'' is a ''Anime/SailorMoon'' and ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'' crossover by [[https://www.fanfiction.net/u/626090/Tribun Tribun]] that purposefully deconstructs, lampshades or averts a number of tropes common to that [[FukuFic combination]] while still proving an interesting and engaging read. The characters slowly but surely develop under the stresses of war while —surprise, surprise— the villains actually show some competence and skill, no longer being the buffoons of canon.

It can be found at Fanfiction.net [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4284134/1/No-Chance-for-Fate here]] and at [=AO3=] [[https://archiveofourown.org/works/51008296/chapters/128871517 here]].

It begins with Sailor Pluto.

Pluto has been stuck in a time-loop ever since the first Crystal Tokyo timeline went bad. So bad, in fact, that [[FuryFueledFoolishness she broke the Gates of Time with a Dead Scream in her fury]], which began the loop of hell. After she's gone insane and back again, she finds a ray of hope. There's a surge of chaos energy in this particular loop, and she takes the chance to reset and rewrite causality in the hopes of a better world. It nearly breaks the universe, but she succeeds with the side effect of several changes. The Senshi are all a year or two older, among numerous other changes. Since everyone involved is still an infant she has almost a decade and a half to put her life together and plan.

One Time Skip later, we meet Ranma Saotome. Being dragged on his way to Soun's house by his father, Genma finds a wallet with two train tickets. Indulging his sloth, the older man lets them take the train, only it doesn't take them to Nerima. Instead, they end up in the middle of Minato ward and run into none other than Nodoka herself, who has changed quite a lot over the past years. The resulting events end with Genma in the dog house and Ranma returning home. Nodoka wants to correct the oversights Genma left in Ranma's education and, knowing that he'll need help passing high school entry exams, ask her best friends daughter to be a tutor. Her name: Ami Mizuno.

This is now a CompletedFic as of January 2020.

----
!!This fanfic provides examples of:
* ACupAngst:
** The easiest way to tick off Zoiste is to make fun of [[GenderBender her]] flat chest.
** While the other girls are not concerned about their own chest size, they are a bit ticked off how Makoto and Xian-Pu can keep their big breasts, despite how physically active they are.
* ActionGirl: Duh.
* AdaptationalBadass: Several
** Pluto is not only skilled enough with her staff as a weapon to fight on par with Cologne and wow Ranma, but she says that if she interfered openly with the war against the Dark Kingdom Beryl would completely panic and respond with overwhelming force.
** Both [[spoiler: Naru and Mamoru. The former gets upgraded to Sailor Ceres and the latter gets both his healing powers and Endymion upgrade much earlier]].
** Ami. While pretty useless in a fight in canon, here her powers prove to be quite lethal.
** Akane. While in canon, she's a decent garden-variety martial artist, in practice she got kidnapped and outclassed by... well, everyone who came calling. In this, she starts training at another dojo and even provides some mundane power to the Senshi. One of the few times she is kidnapped, it's not by "Random Jerk of the Week," it's by crazy people with guns, and everyone is very understanding of why and how it happened.
* AdaptationDyeJob:
** Xian-Pu dyes her hair black during her time in China, so she fits in with the modern crowd better.
** Rather than solid blue, Ami and Akane's hair is simple black.
** Naru's red hair also is notably darker.
** Setsuna dyes her green hair black for the sake of her civilian identity. Played with, however, in that her hair was originally that color, before her magic changed it.
* AdultsAreUseless: Very much ''not''. Unlike the source material, many adults are quite helpful.
* AffectionateNickname: Mamoru calls Usagi "Bunny".
* AlasPoorVillain:
** Despite how much of a {{Jerkass}} they were, Ranma and the Senshi can't help but feel sorry for [[spoiler: Herb and Lime after they are killed fighting the Phoenix tribe]].
** A few characters share sympathy for [[spoiler: Queen Beryl]] in her last moments, [[spoiler: knowing her motivations were done out of a deluded sense of love]], particularly her old subordinates.
--->'''[[spoiler:Nephrite:]]''' I'm trying to get myself to spit on her corpse, but I can't. I even feel sad for her, strange as it sounds.
* AloofAlly: Sailor Pluto does her best to avert this, and Tuxedo Mask does completely.
* AmazonBrigade: With one or two literal (Chinese) Amazons.
* AndIMustScream:
** Pluto finds her time being stuck in the time loop this, on account of how as soon as she becomes relevant to the timeline, her mind is overridden and she is forced to play out her part in the loop the same way until the universe ends again, and her time before that is watching helplessly in stasis and knowing of the tragedy that is to come.
* AndTheAdventureContinues: The story ends with [[spoiler: the destruction of Queen Metallica and Pharaoh 90]], but the Senshi still remain vigilant to handle any more evils that pop up (such as the asteroid that caused Crystal Tokyo), and the story ends with Setsuna warning them of the arrival of Ail and Ann.
* AndThenWhat: In full effect when all evil was destroyed and Crystal Tokyo created, since the Senshi were pretty much useless as world rulers.
** Also in effect with Ranma, since he hadn't had any idea what to use his martial arts for, once being fully trained, until being helped out by his mother.
** Also with Ukyo, she went to Minato ward and transferred into the school in order to get revenge on Ranma for stealing her dowry. But Ranma refuses to battle as he points out that it wasn't his fault and her father doesn't allow her to come back to Osaka since she made the effort to get to Tokyo.
** Turned around with Ryoga, who is shown ''exactly'' the "[[DeathRow what]]" that follows, should he actually manage to kill Ranma.
* ApocalypseHow: Right in the first chapter, Pluto reveals a triple whammy. After the Black Moon Crisis, Usagi got the idea to destroy all evil in man's hearts, resulting in obedient drones with no drive to reproduce and inadvertently creating a planet-wide SterilityPlague. Then, once most of mankind had already died out, they decided to overload the Silver Crystal to force an EarthShatteringKaboom to end their misery. Too bad that by-now clinically depressed Hotaru decided right then it's ''her'' job to put them out of their misery and points down the Silence Glaive... Little wonder Pluto never wants this future to happen again.
* AppealToAudacity: Akari mentions that her grandfather stated that whoever defeated his prize Sumo Pig in a fight would be worthy of dating Akari. Ukyo's reaction is that "This is so insanely stupid I believe it happened right away."
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: How Saeko breaks Nodoka out of her HonorBeforeReason tendencies, she asks her if she's truly willing to force her only son to commit suicide over something as vague as manliness.
* AscendedExtra: Naru pretty much was a slightly more used extra in canon, who quickly faded into the background. Here, however, [[spoiler: things turn out very different when due to Setsuna's escape, history got altered and a Senshi of Ceres comes into being. In the present, Naru is said Senshi.]]
* AscendedFanboy: Usagi goes gaga over Sailor V.
* TheAtoner: Setsuna has this mindset virtually hammered into her after all the times she witnessed how her manipulations led the universe to ruin.
* AttractiveBentGender: Ranma, of course. So much, that [[spoiler: Ami realizes she wants both boy-Ranma [[EvenTheGirlsWantHer and girl-Ranma as well]].]]
* BabiesEverAfter:
** Luna and Artemis soon give birth to Diana, who has [[spoiler: the reincarnated memories and essence of her old self from the first timeline]].
** Averted for the Senshi in committed relationships; despite becoming more active, they're still high school students after all and take appropriate measures. Even after knowing that [[spoiler: Chibi-Usa's soul is waiting for her parents to conceive her so she can be reborn]], Usagi and Mamoru are in no hurry.
** Played straight, however, with [[spoiler: Nodoka Saotome, Saeko Mizuno and Ikuko Tsukino.]] Not only do all three of them go into labor at the same time, but due to the hospital being damaged by the final battle, all three of them end up giving birth in the same maternity room. In the end, [[spoiler: Ranma, Ami, Usagi and Shingo welcome their new baby siblings: Ranko and Kaito Saotome, Reo Mizuno and Ichika Tsukino]].
* BadassFamily: Not only Ranma and Genma, but Nodoka knows how to use her sword.
** Nodoka's side of the family as well. [[spoiler: They were demon-hunters until her father tried to break the circle. Ranma is now the successor.]]
* BatmanCanBreatheInSpace: Very much averted, as it is made clear that the Moon is a very lethal environment. They do need a special spell to protect them and allowing them to breathe before actually visiting it.
* BelligerentSexualTension: For the most part it is ''wonderfully'' averted.
** Luna and Artemis suffer some of it. [[spoiler: And then averted as well, since their relationship improves and they are implied to have an active sex life off-screen.]]
* BerserkButton: Ranma pulps Ryoga after he cuts Akane's hair.
** Again, Ryoga gets punted through a window by Genma when it looks like he's trying to peep on Nodoka.
** ''Never'' threaten Usagi in Mamoru's presence!
** Hurting or dishonoring Ami is a great way to make Ranma willing to kill.
* BigBadEnsemble: The Senshi end up having to deal with the Dark Kingdom and the Death Busters at the same time. In Chapter 43, [[spoiler: Pharaoh 90 obtains the Grail and begins making his way to Earth, which causes Beryl and Queen Metallia to prepare their final assault as well]].
* BigEater: Ranma, though he's slowly learning table manners. Usagi as well.
* BookEnds: When Setsuna escaped the time loop at the beginning of the story and landed in the middle of Tokyo, she had to sit on a park bench to gather her thoughts. At the end of the story, after returning from a mindscape after [[spoiler: defeating Berallia for good]], Setsuna notices that same park bench nearby.
* BoredWithInsanity: Happened to Setsuna while being stuck in the time loop; she says that she went insane and back so many times that her mind is too numb to go mad any longer.
* BoxingLessonsForSuperman: Despite their magical prowess, all of the Senshi get physical training from Khu-Lon to better equip them for battle.
* BrainlessBeauty: Azusa is so dumb, that Mikado's mind control powers don't work on her, since he can't find enough intelligence to work on in the first place.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: All of Nephrite's victims, including [[spoiler: Ranma and Ukyo]]. We later find out that this probably applies to the Dark Kingdom generals as well.
* BrokenBird: Akane, see TraumaCongaLine. Although according to the prologue, Sailor Pluto is way worse off.
* BrutalHonesty: While Ranma has learned some tact, he can still be rather blunt, though he actually tries to give justifications for his words rather than just being rude. A good example is his first meeting with the Tendos: Kasumi gives a detailed explanation of their current dilemma, and while Ranma is sympathetic, he points out that this has nothing to do with him or his parents – Nodoka chides him for being rude, but then admits he's completely right; then, when he notes that Akane is a martial artist but not on his level and she angrily accuses him of mocking her, he forces Genma to provide a colorful explanation of their decade-long TrainingFromHell, and by the time he's finished, Akane is left in no doubt about Ranma's prowess.
* TheBully: Happosai's inner monologue as he's being [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown thrashed by the heroes]] reveals that his sole motivation for learning martial arts was so that he could use his abilities to bully others into indulging his hedonistic desires.
* ButtMonkey:
** Ryoga, but this version of him has deserved it all, so far. [[spoiler:He gets better after Pluto scares him straight.]]
** Konatsu. [[PlayedForDrama Sweet mercy]], Konatsu.
* CallingTheOldManOut: Upon his return to the Amazon tribe, Mu-Tsu finally gets the chance to call [[BigSisterBully his older sisters]] out on how they treated him, with his girlfriend Makoto and all her friends standing behind him.
* CallingYourAttacks: Averted. Ranma and the other martial artists never call their attacks - even in dialogue, the names are only seldomly used. The Senshi also don't do this, apart from a few exceptions (only Venus and Jupiter did so once). The bad guys never do so.
* CardCarryingVillain: ''All'' of the villains. Either they know their actions are insidious and revel in them (Happosai, Konatsu's ugly step-family), or they just don't give a damn (most of the other villains).
* CerebusRetcon: Lots of stuff that's played for laughs in canon is played dead-serious here, with all of the consequences.
** Most prominent are the emotional and mental scars Soun and Genma have from their apprenticeship with Happosai. Being under the thumb of such a cruel man for years crippled both of them emotionally in different ways.
** [[spoiler: The Neko-Ken, which is shown in its whole, brutal reality. Think it's funny, seeing Ranma act like a cat? Not after witnessing the truth - that the Neko-Ken is nothing but a possession ritual designed to summon cat-demons into the world.]]
** [[spoiler: Konatsu's step-family and all the crap they have done is also brought to its [[SexSlave logical, horrific conclusion]]. All of a sudden, it's not funny at all.]]
** The bright, shiny, happy future of Crystal Tokyo is just the first step towards the end of the human race, since to get there, Usagi removed all evil from man's heart- including lust, so no one was procreating.
* ChefOfIron: Makoto makes a valiant attempt, but Ukyo is the prize-winner for this fic.
* ClarkKentOutfit: A few people take notice of the muscles hiding under Mu-Tsu's outfit when he finds himself shirtless. His girlfriend Makoto does not appreciate the others ogling him.
* CombinedEnergyAttack: [[spoiler: Ranma, the other Sailor Senshi, their friends and allies, and many, many people from around the world lending their love and support to Sailor Moon and Endymion give them enough strength to destroy Berallia once and for all]].
* CombatMedic: Not who you'd expect - [[spoiler: Mamoru]]. Later on, Hotaru gets her canon healing powers as well.
* CorpseLand:
** [[spoiler: The moon's surface. The airless and low-heat atmosphere helped preserve all the dead bodies of the destroyed Moon Kingdom, including Princess and Queen Serenity.]]
** [[spoiler: The Joketsuzoku village, after the Phoenix tribe invaded, much to everyone's horror.]]
* CripplingOverspecialization:
** The Youma Binah may be virtually immune to all forms of magic, but she's hardly a front-line fighter and poor in physical combat, on account of how Akane [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown lays down the smackdown]] on her.
** Ryu Kumon had mastered the Yamasenken perfectly - [[CripplingOverspecialization but that helps him little, as he'd neglected all other aspects of martial arts]]. Genma scolds him for being a one-trick pony, before beating him up. Kumon has no answer to a fully trained martial artist who can avoid the one set of techniques he has mastered.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Genma pulls off a few awesome moments, in spite of all his idiocy. [[spoiler: And now he's starting to get rid of the moron part.]]
* CrystalSpiresAndTogas: Deconstructed. It's nice to have super advanced magical cities, but the problem is that the rulers had no idea what they were doing. And their efforts to make things better just made it worse.
* CurbStompBattle: Averted, though Jadeite almost managed one against the Senshi.
** The Chinese Military vs. The Amazons. Turns out that a government not known for its tolerance of dissidents, a vast array of modern weaponry, and an incredibly large standing army can take out a single village of primitives without much difficulty at all.
** Happens to Ryu Kumon at Genma's hands, after the latter deducts that Kumon never bothered much with martial arts beyond his one great technique.
** Tellu of the Witches 5 barely puts up a struggle. Her plants are neutralized by Ceres's GreenThumb, her ManEatingPlant is burned by Mars's flames, and her poison [[NoSell does absolutely bupkis]] against Ceres's poison immunity.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: What Ranma considers his Flying Dragon Uppercut to be, especially when augmented with external heat and cold sources. [[spoiler: When he finally uses it with Mars and Mercury's help against Saffron, the resulting tornado is powerful enough to completely obliterate an entire mountaintop.]]
* DarkActionGirl: Zoisite.
* DeadpanSnarker: Ranma and Mamoru are masters of this, but the Senshi all get their chance to add on it as well. Even the bad guys snark on occasion at absurd canon plot points.
* {{Deconstruction}}: Works on many different levels:
** DeconstructionCrossover: Since it concerns both series, this is a given.
** DeconstructorFleet: The whole ''intent'' of this story seems to be to thoroughly deconstruct a lot of aspects of a FukuFic, not to mention the source materials.
** GenreDeconstruction: Deconstructs the FukuFic, whose stories had become formulaic by the time the story was created.
** {{Reconstruction}}: Despite all the deconstruction, it also is shown that at their core, Ranma and the Senshi are good people. The battle against darkness is clearly shown to be a noble and good cause and it is shown how people can actually become better persons when they work hard for it.
* DefectorFromDecadence: [[spoiler: With Saffron gaining some serious OmnicidalManiac tendencies during his latest rebirth and making noise about attacking the rest of the 'land-dwellers' to assert their power, some of the more level-headed members of the Phoenix tribe decided to [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere desert]].]]
* DemonicPossession:
** This of course is what happened to Hotaru in canon as well. However [[spoiler: Mistress 9 is forced out by exorcism - prepared thoroughly in order to not hurt Hotaru, or let Mistress 9 hurt her.]]
** Happens to [[spoiler: Ami]] courtesy of [[spoiler: Nehellenia forcing a spiritual parasite down her throat.]]
** Turns out this is the true purpose of the Neko-ken- it's not a martial arts technique, it's a way to make someone so afraid of cats that they have no resistance to a cat-demon taking over their body.
* DemotedToExtra:
** Akane is still an important member of the team, but she isn't one of the main protagonists.
** While Nehellenia in canon got the most episodes of any big bad to herself, here she is merely a - although highly dangerous - pawn of the Dark Kingdom and not a main antagonist.
* {{Determinator}}: First it's played with when Ranma has to Determinate his way through ''studying'' to get into high school, with Ami's help as his tutor. Then more seriously when [[spoiler: Nephrite sticks a Youma in him, which mixes with his Neko-ken to form an independent cat demon that he weakens, despite having most of his ki yanked out of him]].
** Also, the girls [[spoiler: go through Cologne's training, which has Usagi throwing up multiple times, but sticking with it]].
* DirtyOldMan: Happosai. And it's ''not'' PlayedForLaughs.
** Grandpa Hino, though he never goes beyond relatively harmless flirting and has his fair share of PetTheDog and CoolOldGuy moments.
** Giuseppe Mayart, ambassador of the Black Guard, also counts, and he hates Happosai for giving anyone who enjoys eye candy a bad name as a depraved pervert.
* DividedWeFall: With the Chinese Amazons beleaguered by change brought on by the intervention of the Chinese Army and the Musk tribe facing a succession crisis, [[spoiler: the Phoenix tribe took advantage of the discord and ambushed them, almost wiping them both out]].
* DramaPreservingHandicap[=/=]GodzillaThreshold: [[DiscOneNuke Setsuna]]. She admits that she's very, ''very'' powerful - enough so that she manages to impress anyone who witnesses her fight (not to mention that she's the Senshi of Time and can see the future), but deliberately limits her involvement specifically because of it to extreme emergencies. This is due to her power being so great, her open intervention in a conflict would mean the enemy would overreact and pull out all the stops, ''heavily'' escalating the war. Think of it as similar to the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union; with Setsuna in place of nuclear weapons.
** Just to underline she does have a point, this is exactly what happens later after [[spoiler: the recovery of the Silver Crystal]].
* DreamLand: The realm of dreams our heroes enter in order to [[spoiler: save the other Senshi and defeat Nehellenia]] is working on a set of rules very distinct to reality. Outside of people's dreams, {{Bizarrchitecture}} seems to be the standard. Also, someone becoming aware where they are can change themselves to whatever they want... as long as they can imagine it.
* DreamWalker: Due to the Senshi, with exception of Ami, being trapped in their nightmares due to [[spoiler: Nehellenia]], this is the only way to get them out. Needless to say that the DreamLand is an especially bizarre place.
* DumbButDiligent: While Ranma is BookDumb due to Genma's lifelong neglect of any non-martial arts education, he works very hard and dedicates considerable effort to maintain his C average. As he needs a degree and higher education to be able to run a dojo, he learns good study habits from Ami.
* DudeLooksLikeALady[=/=]GenderBender: Zoicite was male in the original timeline, but Pluto's reset turned him female. She's not sure why, but notes that it hasn't affected his relationship with Kunzite.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Quite a number of them:
** Michiru or Haruka don't appear until Chapter 20, but Michiru's father appears in chapter 4 (as a social worker assigned to clear up the mess of issues in Nerima that finally boiled over) and both of them are mentioned.
** [[spoiler: Later, the Death Busters start picking up the pace of their activities after being made aware of the Dark Kingdom in Chapter 17.]]
** [[spoiler: Helios makes an early appearance in Chapter 18. He introduces himself properly in Chapter 30.]]
** [[spoiler: Ranma meets Hotaru even before the Silver Crystal is recovered. It's a brief meeting however, no names given. She is properly introduced in Chapter 21.]]
* EldritchAbomination: While Queen Metaillia also fulfills the criteria, it's the description of Pharaoh 90 which truly is this trope. He looks... quite bizarre and his personality is not helping.
* ElectricTorture: When Sailor Moon resists the temptation [[spoiler: to surrender to Beryl, Beryl emulates Emperor Palpatine to show her displeasure.]].
* ElementalPowers: Each Senshi has as usual an elemental power as their specialization. Some changes are made compared to canon. In a twist, each Senshi is immune to natural occurences of their power. Note that this does ''not'' count for magical attacks of said elements, which only are somewhat lessened in power but still hurt them.
** AnIcePerson: Sailor Mercury. Was given ice powers to raise her battle usefulness and make her powers more distictive of those of Neptune. [[spoiler: It also means she can't get cold or freeze, as proven in the Andes.]]
** HeartBeatDown: Sailor Venus. [[spoiler: Her power makes her immune to direct mind-manipulation, but not against illusions like the DD Girls use.]]
** LightEmUp / {{Lunacy}}: Sailor Moon. [[spoiler: The only case of the same immunity; she has the same one as Venus.]]
** PlayingWithFire: Sailor Mars. [[spoiler:She is also completely immune to natural fire when transformed, as seen in Jadeite's trap.]]
** GreenThumb: Sailor Ceres. [[spoiler: Trying to use plants against her is useless, as she commands them. It also means immunity to poison.]]
** ShockAndAwe: Sailor Jupiter. [[spoiler: Normal electricity like power lines and lightning will at worst just arouse her.]]
** CastingAShadow: Sailor Saturn. [[spoiler: She's immune against death magic.]]
** BlowYouAway: Sailor Uranus. [[spoiler: It would need almost a vacuum for her to be unable to breathe.]]
** MakingASplash: Sailor Neptune. [[spoiler: As the Senshi of the sea, she can breathe underwater, though she found that out entirely by accident.]]
** TimeMaster: Sailor Pluto. [[spoiler: Trying time distortion powers against her will be totally futile.]]
* EnemyWithout: Happens twice:
** After [[spoiler: the cat demon that had dwelled in Ranma's body due to the Neko-Ken absorbs the energy that was trying to make him a Youma, he gets the power to gain his own body in the human world.]]
** [[spoiler: Dark Mercury after Ami accepts her inner darkness and forces the spiritual parasite out of her body.]]
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: How does one establish the Phoenix tribe as a credible threat? Have them [[PragmaticVillainy use guns]] against those that get in their way, and [[spoiler: have them attack the Chinese Amazons, Musk tribe, and the Chinese Army battalion and nearly wipe them all out.]]
* EroticDream: Both, from Ranma and Ami. [[spoiler: They will even share these now.]]
** Ukyo had ones while hunting Ranma. She considers it a sign that her concept of gender identity is breaking down when these start to involve women, but her re-embracing her feminine side seems to have "fixed" that, in her words.
* EverythingMakesAMushroom: How do we know the magical breakdown between [[YinYangClash two opposing magics]] is powerful? It creates a mushroom cloud, is actively compared to a nuke, and is powerful enough to [[spoiler: wipe out the entirety of Jusenkyo]].
* EvilVersusEvil: Since the Dark Kingdom wants to conquer Earth while the Death Busters want to serve it to the Pharaoh as a food source, conflict is inevitable once they start to step on each other's toes.
* ExiledToTheCouch: Genma is not allowed to go into the master bedroom, although he notes he's making progress to get back there. [[spoiler: His actions in Chapter 22 finally convince Nodoka to lift the punishment and she now expects him to fulfill his husband duties... which he does better than she'd expected.]]
* {{Filler}}: Mostly averted. Every encounter is in some way plot-relevant, and there are no random monster attacks; they're all planned out well ahead of time by the baddies.
* {{Flanderization}}: The author does his best to avoid this, keeping everyone well-rounded and developing.
* FreudianExcuse: It would be easier to count who ''doesn't'' have one.
* TheGlassesGottaGo: More like "The Glasses Gotta Change" in this case, as Naru and Makoto both notice that Umino and Mu-Tsu look a lot better when they exchange their large, chunky glasses for slimmer, more modern frames.
** However, Ranma is for some reason disturbed when Ami wears her reading glasses. Ami actually uses this to motivate him during homework.
* GondorCallsForAid: [[spoiler: As the Death Busters and Dark Kingdom are about to stage their final assault on Tokyo, Sailor Pluto and the Black Guard reveal themselves to the [[UsefulNotes/JapanesePoliticalSystem Japanese National Diet]] and ask them for aid, who in turn asks for military support from the US.]]
* GroinAttack: Ranma delivers one to Kaolinite, with a [[ArmedLegs bladed shoe]]. [[spoiler: As [[AchillesHeel weak points]] go, this strike proves deadly.]]
** Ranma suffers from one during a training session when he's hit down there by a boulder.
* GroupHug: The Senshi give Setsuna one after she tells them what happened in the old timeline, the events that led to the time loop, and all her regrets and failures that she had to endure over and over again.
* GunsAreWorthless: Averted. While Tokyo police with their small arms simply don't have the firepower needed to take down Youma, guns are still incredibly dangerous. Guns are ''deadly'' to all human characters, the Senshi needing their magic to protect them from small arms. [[spoiler: When Kotetsu aims a gun at Ranma and Ryoga, both were not stupid enough to do anything foolish. Later, both Ranma and Xian-Pu find out just how much a gunshot hurts, courtesy of the Phoenix Tribe.]]
* HammerSpace: Akane does ''not'' have this, but sub-space pockets are explicitly included in the Senshi package. Also, Mu-Tsu, who teaches Ranma the basics to allow him to carry a sword in secret.
* HardWorkHardlyWorks: Oh so averted!
** While the Senshi magic is inherited, everything else is hard work. The Senshi have to work hard to get the needed skills to prevail in battle, since just getting the magic won't cut it.
** Ranma is working his ass off to maintain his grades and get the needed strength to fight their foes.
** The aversion is showcased in Genma vs. Ryu Kumon. Genma has years of hard work under his belt to become a master martial artist. Kumon avoided the work by just learning one very destructive technique. Genma wins with ease.
* [[FailureIsTheOnlyOption Haircut is the Only Option]]: In spite of changing schools, Akane's hair still gets cut off in Ranma's first fight with Ryoga.
* HealingHands: Mamoru has these as part of Endymion's powers. Hotaru, as per canon, has these as well.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: There are numerous examples.
** Venus herself, as the Senshi of Love, of course shows that heart can be used to beat down your enemies. [[spoiler: Since "heart" also means "mind", she is immune against direct manipulation of her mind, but sadly not illusions.]]
** Ranma is even more awesome, as his hunter-powers completely shield his mind. [[spoiler: Even the illusions of the DD Girls don't work, something unique to him.]]
** Sailor Moon also uses the power of heart, even if it's less pronounced than with Venus.
** When [[spoiler: a Daimon is about to kill Ami, Ranma finally manages to weaponize his ki. The emotion used? Love.]]
* TheHedonist: Played ''very'' darkly with Happosai.
* HeelFaceTurn: A few.
** Nephrite eventually works out that Beryl had brainwashed him into believing her lies, leading him to try and turn himself in to the Senshi, [[spoiler: but Beryl finds out and has him imprisoned in crystal]].
** [[spoiler: When Jadetite and his youma assistant Tethys lay eyes on the mana tree, they are purged of Beryl's lies and dark magic, revealing the truth to the former and [[HumanityEnsues turning the latter human]].]]
** [[spoiler: Jadetite and Tethys later conduct a rescue attempt for Nephrite, and their escape attempt ends up dragging Kunzite and Zoicite along with them into the range of the mana tree, purging them of their lies as well.]]
* HeelRealization: Nodoka goes through one at the very beginning of the story, when her friend Saeko Mizuno manages to get her to realise that forcing her own son to kill himself over something like "manliness" is truly a horrible thing to do. A lot of tears were shed during that painful epiphany.
* HeirClubForMen: [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]]. Soun claims that he needs a male heir to run the Tendo Dojo, but his real reason for not wanting Akane to be his heir is because he thinks she wouldn't make a very good teacher.
** Subverted with the Hunters as well. They make no difference at all between genders.
* HeroicBSOD: Ami goes into one when the curse shatters her understanding of the real world, and then again the first time she transforms. Both times, she quickly snaps out of it - she's simply too clear-headed to let this get to her.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard:
** When things are going bad for her, Mistress 9 uses knowledge stolen from Hotaru's former life to summon [[spoiler: the Silence Glaive. Too bad for her that the Glaive recognizes her as evil. What follows is quite lethal to her.]]
** [[spoiler: When Nehellenia is tricked into thinking about the reality of her old age, she sees her reflection ([[YourMindMakesItReal aged thanks to the dream world]]) in her Dream Mirror and shatters it in a panic, destroying the only thing anchoring her [[IRejectYourReality youthful delusions]] into the dream world. [[NoImmortalInertia Reality very rapidly asserts itself.]]]]
** Tellu of the Witches 5. When she sics a ManEatingPlant on the Senshi, Mamoru kicks her into it which then proceeds to try and eat her, and when she tries to blast her way free, ends up blowing herself to bits.
** Another of the Witches 5, Viluy, suffers this. Her {{Magitek}} allowed her to network herself to all the computers in the city to increase her strength and speed, but it also left her vulnerable to being hacked by Mercury's computer.
** Ryu Kumon's father gained a super-awesome technique from Genma Saotome... and promptly ignored all the warnings Genma gave, used it inside his dojo (which he was, again, told ''specifically'' not to do [[EveryoneHasStandards by the same person who thought that Neko-ken training was okay]]), causing its collapse and his own death.
* HonorBeforeReason: [[{{Deconstruction}} Deconstructed]] with Nodoka and the Amazons.
** Nodoka was like this for a long time before her best friend Saeko Mizuno broke her out of it.
*** Further deconstructed when you realize that it was her upbringing and the social circles she had been raised in. All done [[spoiler: by her father in order to spite ''his'' father, her grandfather]].
** The Amazons suffered from this problem in the past, [[spoiler: which led to them getting [[CurbStompBattle flattened]] by the Chinese military after giving the Kiss of Death to an important official's wife. Because of this, they had actually outlawed the Kisses of Death and Marriage, and Xian Pu got in ''big'' trouble for giving one to Ranma]].
* HookedUpAfterwards: The finale reveals that Soun Tendo and Naru Osaka's mother have began dating.
* HostageForMacguffin:
** After hearing that Khu-Lon would destroy the map to Jusenkyo if they go after it, the Phoenix tribe take Xian-Pu hostage and call her bluff. Unfortunately for Khu-Lon, [[ImpaledPalm a gunshot through Xian-Pu's hand]] proves they are serious.
** Chapter 43 has [[spoiler: Germatoid successfully hold Hotaru and her father hostage in exchange for the Grail]].
* HumanityEnsues: [[spoiler: The youma Tethys, still containing a spark of what made her human, is turned human after the mana tree purges her of Beryl's corruption]].
* HumanShield:
** A Daimon tries to use Mrs. Aino as one against Sailor Venus. Too bad for it that Venus can learn how to [[{{Roboteching}} curve her shots]].
* HumiliationConga: A few.
** Ryoga goes through a lengthy one in Chapter 6. First he gets beaten into paste by Ranma after pissing him off at school and everyone testifying that Ryoga is dangerous, thus the police are warned. Breaking into Ranma's home, he accidentally peeps on Nodoka and is punted out of the house by an enraged Genma. Next morning Nodoka finds him in cursed form, takes him into the bath. End result: he has to flee from Nodoka trying to cut off his "parts" with a sword. Being found by Rei again in cursed form and a repeat in the bathroom, he's chased off by her and her grandfather, only to first run through a field of stinging nettles, a bus stop full of students who get pissed off at him (he's naked after all), an all-girls school and the garden of the Tendo house where Soun tries to kill him for scaring Kasumi. Oh, and he's labeled a sex offender for it.
** And Herb is set up for it during his appearance, with not only being locked, but told off by a bunch of people very capable of killing him if they use their full power, absolutely humiliated by Pluto in a fight, and being stuck in his cursed form for a year as punishment. It is also hinted that Musk society is close to tearing itself apart due to a pending succession crisis.
*** And that succession crisis means that the Musk is divided right when [[spoiler: the Phoenix tribe attacks them, allowing them to be all but massacred.]]
* ICanChangeMyBeloved: There are some examples:
** From what's gathered, Endymion wasn't exactly a boy-scout. However Princess Serenity seemed to have helped him finally grow up. The full extent of this is shown in Chapter 22, and how he does get better.
** Also a case with Nodoka and Genma as he made an honest effort to change when they first got married. Now that they're back together, Genma is slowly becoming a better man.
* INeedAFreakingDrink: Akane quotes this trope almost word-for-word in Chapter 4 after Genma tells her about the utterly brutal training regimen he put Ranma through for the past ten years. She ends up accidentally spilling the soda she was reaching for on Ranma, activating his Jusenkyo curse.
* IfItsYouItsOkay: Ami to Ranma. Ami herself is strictly heterosexual, so she [[spoiler: does need some time before admitting to Ranma and herself that she's attracted to his female side as well.]]
* ImNotAfraidOfYou: How Ranma turns the tables on [[spoiler: the cat demon that was implanted into him via the Neko-Ken. When his fears for Ami override his ailurophobia, and thus denying his fear of the cat demon, he prevents it from feeding off his fear and rendering it vulnerable]].
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice:
** Genma kills a cat demon by impaling it with [[ImprovisedWeapon a broken pole]].
** Later, he and Soun finally end [[spoiler: Youma-Happosai]] the same way.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: Nephrite, leading up to his HeelFaceTurn, [[spoiler: and his HeelFaceDoorSlam.]] Aside from that, nope, not a one to be found.
* InstantExpert:
** Averted with the Senshi's martial arts training. It will take months or years for them to become notably skilled.
** Also averted with Ranma's academic progress, while with Ami's help he improved he still makes a lot of effort to maintain a C average.
* IntelligenceEqualsIsolation: Ami at the beginning, though she does get better.
* {{Jerkass}}: Quite a number.
** Mikado Sanzenin. His misuse of his mind-control powers has made him very arrogant. While it kept him from prison, he's a social pariah.
** Azusa Shiratori. Is so annoying that even Ami lost her cool.
** Takashi Hino. Rei's father sees everything as an asset for his political career. Starting a family was nothing but a way to milk bonus points from the public.
** The Musk people Herb, Lime, and Mint, are not played comedically. While misogynistic in canon, their very culture, and how it colors how they are, ups their jerkassery by taking it to its logical conclusion.
* InterserviceRivalry: The Shadow Hunters and the Black Guard both keep order between humans and demons and the treaty that was formed to maintain peace between their races. Don't expect them to be best friends anytime soon though.
* ItsAllMyFault: After [[AndIMustScream the unending time loop]] that hammered her machinations and their horrible consequences into her over and over again, Setsuna finds herself taking on blame for her actions that led to future problems, even when it's not actually her fault. For example, by locking the misogynistic Prince Herb into a female form, she might have inadvertently worsened the Musk's succession crisis, [[spoiler: meaning that they were divided when the Phoenix tribe attacked and almost wiped them out]].
* JourneyToTheCenterOfTheMind: In order to save Ami from a monster that has taken over her body, they need to find her soul and encourage her to resist. Needless to say, Ami's mind is a really interesting place, especially since everything is translated to [[AFormYouAreComfortableWith an understandable frame of reference]].
* KeepTheReward: Makoto gives the prize of the wedding dress contest to Nephrite's victim, since she felt she deserved it more. Moreso since Makoto felt she'd cheated by just conjuring her dress with her disguise pen.
* KickTheSonOfABitch:
** Ryoga is on the receiving end when he appears and gets beaten up by Ranma, Nodoka and Genma. He's on the giving end when he inadvertently beats up Tsubasa who was bothering Ukyo at her restaurant.
** Done literally by Sailor Mercury to Lime for all the crap he's given her.
* KnightTemplarParent: Minako's parents, sadly enough. When they find out what their daughter is up to, they get angry and demand she stop, causing Minako to run away in tears. Pluto gives them a stern lecture on why what they do is necessary, but those broken bonds won't be fixed any time soon.
** [[spoiler: They finally get a chance to patch things up after Venus rescues them from a monster attack]].
* LadyOfWar: Nodoka. She is a housewife who dresses nicely, is very polite and prefers a quiet life. However, [[spoiler: she can also use her sword to go totally postal on Youma, ignoring pain while hacking off limbs]].
* LampshadeHanging: The story discusses a lot of stuff that was iffy in the manga/anime.
* LazyBum: Genma is worse than Usagi ever was, and she's gotten better. He later gets better as well.
* LethalChef:
** Akane. Makoto is almost going crazy in her attempts to help her get better.
** Ukyo while under the thrall of a Youma. Her food actually ''exploded'', and not in a way related to a martial arts technique.
* LiesToChildren: Sailor Pluto and the Advisors, simply because telling them the truth won't help, and might actually hurt. They try to be truthful where they safely can, though. [[spoiler: It's a great relief when they can finally tell the truth.]]
* LightningBruiser: Ranma, compared to other humans and most Youma, even if he can't kill them. Apparently, he gets it from the surprisingly agile Genma.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop:
** Ami's mom thinks of Ami's Senshi activities as her daughter finally getting a social life with a boyfriend, friends and joining a sports club. Note that Ami ''hates'' lying to her mother. [[spoiler: Now averted with not only Ami's but also Usagi's parents, who now know what their daughters are up to.]]
** How this can go very wrong is shown with Minako's parents.
* LonelyRichKid: Ami, but not as bad as in the original timeline.
* LoveRedeems: Nephrite. Averted with Zoicite and Kunzite, who are in love with each other and yet still evil.
** [[spoiler: Tethys returns to being human, since her initial transformation didn't snuff out all positive emotions.]]
* MagicAIsMagicA: Ki and magic are two different sources of energy, and immunity to one does not give immunity to the other. For example, [[spoiler: Techniclone's magical parasite used to devour all magic from the mana tree in Elysion is destroyed by Ranma's ki blast.]]
* TheMagicComesBack: Chapter 41: [[spoiler: the destruction of Jusenkyo and all the mana it had been hoarding away for 10,000 years ended up spreading that magic all over the world, allowing regular humans to use magic again.]]
* TheMasqueradeWillKillYourDatingLife: Inverted as the masquerade gave Ami a love life, helping her get closer to Ranma. Played straight with Venus, via her curse.
* MindlinkMates: Happens to [[spoiler: Ranma and Ami. Though, it's only a mild version.]]
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: The youma Nephrite used at the Ball had its (black, malevolent) heart in the right place, but lacked subtlety or brains.
* MotorMouth: Usagi, much to Akane's dismay.
* MundaneLuxury: Even his simple room means a big deal to Ranma after ten years on the road.
** Konatsu's accommodations at Ukyou's place are similarly a big deal to him after his horrific upbringing.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: Akane isn't built much differently from the others, but she's ''really'' strong.
** Averted with Makoto who unlike in canon is quite muscular, while still retaining her feminine figure, as you would expect from a girl doing lots of sports. Her muscles do give her a strength advantage in Senshi form.
* MySkullRunnethOver: [[spoiler: Viluy of the Witches 5 suffers this. Though she is networked to all the computers in the city to increase her strength and processing speed, Mercury turns this against her by hacking them and causing them to download all their information into Viluy's brain. The overload is so severe she suffers a fatal stroke.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Pluto's reaction for thousands of years after seeing the end result of her manipulations countless times.
** Also the end reaction after Earth got de-populated thanks to Usagi. So they decide to commit suicide, too bad [[spoiler: [[PersonOfMassDestruction Hotaru beats them to it]] ]].
** [[spoiler: Also Genma's reaction to the Neko-Ken being a demon-possession ritual and not a martial arts technique, realising that he had pointlessly tortured his son [[AllForNothing for nothing]].]]
** [[spoiler: The Dark Generals, after the illusions of Queen Beryl's lies are banished by means of questioning themselves or laying eyes on the Mana Tree, have the full weight of their actions crash down on them.]]
*** [[spoiler: It's even mentioned that Jadetite started having [[DrivenToSuicide suicidal guilt]] about his actions, and it took Mamoru and Tethys to talk him out of it]].
* MythologyGag:
** Usagi's nickname "Bunny" is based off her name in the {{Creator/Tokyopop}} English translation, although that was actually an unintentional side-effect. The true reason is that the author is German, and Usagi's name in the German version is "Bunny" (which was done to keep all the rabbit jokes).
** Naru's big fear is that her friends forget her and she is left behind in obscurity. The author admitted this was done as a comment how poorly Naru fared in all canon sources, where she did fade from the story after some time.
** Dark Mercury is a reminder of what happened to Ami in the live-action series.
** Akane is given a warhammer to fight the Phoenix Tribe in Chapter 40, much to her annoyance. She uses it anyway since it fits her fighting style.
** Ranma's [[spoiler: new baby sister]] is a redhead named Ranko, based of the regular fan-name of her female form.
* NeverMyFault:
** What makes Ryoga so annoying until he gets a serious dose of reality.
** Averted with Ranma, Akane, Genma, Nodoka, and Xian-Pu.
** Ryu Kumon can't accept that his father's death was his own fault, rather than Genma's, since it was Genma's technique that caused the Dojo to collapse on him (despite Genma telling Ryu's father "Do not use this inside of the house or you will die," and Ryu's father doing it anyway).
* NobodyPoops: Very averted. There are numerous instances of characters taking a bathroom break. One scene at Rei's school goes on even while she's using a toilet to relieve her bladder (though most of the text during that is Rei's thoughts about something entirely else).
* NoPeriodsPeriod: Ranma's first, especially since s/he didn't know the birds and the bees, [[FirstPeriodPanic scared the crud out of him]]. Later on they also have to take Ami's periods into account during their "activities".
* NotMeThisTime: Unlike situations where he, say, sold Ranma's hand in marriage for some food, or swindled people out of their life savings, or any of the other things that he canonically did, Genma refuses to accept responsibility for the death of Ryu Kumon's father. He did give the technique to his dad, true, and the technique did result in the death of the man, but Genma gave the technique to him in good faith, for good reasons, and included warnings that the man promptly ignored. He washes his hands of what happened to the elder Kumon.
* NothingIsTheSameAnymore: The end of Chapter 41: [[spoiler: The Chinese Amazons, the Musk, and the Phoenix tribe are all but decimated, Jusenkyo is obliterated in a massive magical explosion, and all the magic it had been storing for 10,000 years is [[TheMagicComesBack spread all over the world]], furthering the Dark Kingdom's plans and ushering in a Second Age of Magic.]]
* NotSoHarmless:
** Jadeite. In canon he pretty much was the whipping-boy, while here [[spoiler:he actually not only manages to completely outsmart the Senshi and harvest a huge amount of energy, but also almost manages to kill all of them in battle by carefully planning his advantages]].
** The reason that they're a lot further along in the energy harvesting than they were in canon is that Jadeite is smart enough to drain people no one will miss thousands of miles away from Tokyo (homeless people in Moscow).
* NotWearingPantsDream: One of Ami's old nightmares is walking into school naked. Due to interference, the nightmare actually becomes worse under magical influence until Ranma comes to the rescue.
* OfficialCouple: Usagi and Mamoru, presumeably. Also, Ranma and Ami. [[UnholyMatrimony Kunzite and Zoisite in a twisted way, too]]. Jupiter and Mu Tsu seem to be heading this way.
* OffWithHerHead:
** Jadeite did this to the previous Sailor Ceres. He fully intends [[spoiler: to do this to Naru as well]].
** [[spoiler: Saturn uses the Silence Glaive to do this to Germatoid]].
* OhCrap: Pluto has this when Professor Tomoe sends a Daimon out on a test run, several months earlier than in the original timeline, and while the Dark Kingdom is still a threat.
** Ranma himself has this when he senses the energy of Tokyo’s population being drained by Jadeite’s latest plot, his discipline being the only thing keeping him from [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness screaming in terror.]]
* OldMaster: Cologne. Also, bear in mind that Setsuna is ReallySevenHundredYearsOld.
* OpenMindedParent: Nodoka became this after finally accepting reality. Good thing, since Ranma's curse otherwise would have caused huge problems.
** Also with Michiru's father, who is supportive of his daughter's activities and her budding romance with Haruka.
** Sadly averted with Minako's parents, with all its consequences.
* OppositesAttract: Ranma and Ami are polar opposites.
* OutOfClothesExperience: Ranma and Ami have one. Deconstructed in that they are not only aware of it but also horribly mortified by their nudity.
* OutOfTheInferno: The senshi after their CurbStompBattle with Jadeite.
* OneTrueSequence: The Rainbow Crystals.
* OrcusOnHerThrone: Beryl doesn't do much herself, but her generals are generally more involved. Later subverted when [[spoiler: she oversees the capture of the Silver Crystal personally to make sure nothing will go wrong.]] She also [[spoiler: takes it upon herself to lead the charge into Elysion]].
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Akane can't really compare to the Senshi in battle. On the other hand, she's far stronger than them outside of their powers, not to mention more skilled in purely martial arts based combat.
* ParentalAbandonment: Not as much as in the originals. Akane and Rei still suffer this, but Ami's parents are still married and Nodoka regrets doing this to Ranma and is trying to mend her bridges. It's more complicated with Haruka and Michiru, although they're adults already.
** Rei's situation actually comes down to a big confrontation, and it's quite nasty.
* ParentalHypocrisy: Genma, although he becomes better.
** Also Rei's grandfather, he loves to flirt with girls but draws the line at his own granddaughter dating.
* PeggySue: Somewhat played straight with Setsuna; subverted with Ryouga in chapter 19, as his BadFuture is just an illusion created by Setsuna.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Given enough prep time, any of the generals or Beryl could be this, Pluto says when telling the senshi to take his 'burn down the city' threat seriously.
** Hotaru, of course, is this per canon.
** Saffron at full power is said to hold very destructive powers. Thankfully, the tribe in all those years had only used him as a glorified heater.
* PlotRelevantAgeUp: All of the Senshi are two years older than in canon, due to Pluto's escape from the loop, with the Inners being 16 (same age as Ranma) and Haruka and Michiru being 18. Hotaru however still is 12 and Mamoru still 19. Some other people got two years older as well, especially Naru and Umino. It not only makes everyone involved more mature, but also removes the squick in Usagi's and Mamoru's relationship, with Usagi now at the age of consent and the age gap much smaller.
* PoliceAreUseless: It's not so much incompetence, but that they simply lack the firepower to deal with the monsters. They know this and it creates sourness between them and the Senshi. They however are quite good at preventing any civilians from walking into known battle zones.
** However, they are still great in situations that fall into their range of competence. [[spoiler: Konatsu's ugly step-family learned this the hard way.]]
* PoorCommunicationKills: Pluto has to balance this with LiesToChildren.
* PottyEmergency: After making a speech on live television about [[spoiler: the Death Busters and the Dark Kingdom's imminent attack]], Sailor Moon has to make a break to the bathroom out of nerves. Ceres [[NoodleIncident remembers a time in fourth grade]] when [[PottyFailure she wasn't so lucky]].
* PragmaticVillainy: The Phoenix tribe have no compunction about using firearms against their enemies. And in this 'fic, [[GunsAreWorthless Guns are]] ''[[AvertedTrope Not]]'' [[GunsAreWorthless Worthless]].
* PreClimaxClimax: As the final battle looms between [[spoiler: Pharaoh 90's arrival, Queen Metallia's invasion and the Senshi and their allies]], a number of the couples, like Ranma and Ami and Haruka and Michiru, spend their time consummating their relationship. For [[spoiler: Makoto and Mu-Tsu]], it even counts as MustNotDieAVirgin.
* PromotionToParent: This happened to Akane's sister Kasumi after their mother died and their father broke down, and she's only barely avoiding a breakdown herself.
* PsychosomaticSuperpowerOutage: Mamoru can't access his Endymion form until he finds a reason/want to fight, Cologne says.
* RailroadTracksOfDoom: Eudial tries this by shoving the car in which Ranma, Ami and her parents are onto the track just when a train is about to arrive. To her bad luck, Saeko, instead of going in reverse, drives forward to get off the tracks, so that Eudial's car ends up driving on the tracks instead. The end result is messy.
* RapidAging: [[spoiler: Nehellenia shattering her own Dream Mirror after getting tricked has very unfortunate results for her.]]
* RealityWarper: Nehelenia's self-delusion about her beauty is so great it actually warps reality on herself to make her appear youthful.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Pluto has become this. Nodoka and Saeko (Ami's mother) also are reasonable, and Ranma's great-grandfather was always this.
* ReforgedIntoAMinion: [[spoiler: Mikado, Azusa, and Happosai]] are all captured by the Dark Kingdom and turned into Youma. The former two are quickly killed off when they reappear, the latter is a lot more resilient.
* {{Reincarnation}}:
** The Senshi are reincarnations as per canon, as is Tuxedo Kamen of course.
** Kasumi is the reincarnation of [[spoiler:Queen Serenity. However, this is different from the Senshi reincarnation, in that Kasumi is ''not'' a full one, like the other Senshi are. Turns out that by the time Serenity got to herself in the reincarnation spell, she was mostly dead, and botched it a little. As a result, she's been reborn again and again over the years. By this point, only her kind nature and her magical potential remain. In practice, this means that she's more resilient against magical effects and trauma... but she's not going to be taking from Usagi, and doesn't have memories of the Moon Kingdom.]]
*** However, [[spoiler: her connection to the Silver Crystal is enough for her to call on its power to defend herself against Youma-Happosai]].
* ReincarnationRomance: Deconstructed. Turns out that following the same pattern of behavior over and over again because that's what you did in the last life isn't healthy at all. According to Pluto, in the original timeline, Usagi and Mamoru basically ceased to exist as their past-lives took over via memories. The two ''do'' still get together, but this time their past lives don't take over and they develop their own relationship naturally.
* RelationshipSalvagingDisaster: Familial example. [[spoiler: [[KnightTemplarParent Minako's parents]] reject her duties after she accidentally reveals herself, causing her to run away from home in rage. They finally become open to talking about it after the Ainos get caught in a Death Buster attack and Sailor Venus has to save them.]]
* RemovedAchillesHeel: After [[spoiler: destroying Pharaoh 90, the embodiment of Earth's magic]] removes the water trigger for Ranma's [[InvoluntaryShapeshifting Jusenkyo curse]] as a reward, now allowing him to {{Sex Shift|er}} [[VoluntaryShapeshifter at will]]. By now, Ranma has accepted his curse, so he doesn't mind it remaining.
* RetGone: Pluto [[spoiler: doesn't intend to let Crystal Tokyo occur this time, meaning that the Black Moon Family will suffer this.]]
** This was a possible fate for [[spoiler:Chibi-Usa and Diana as well. But as of Chapter 30: The Mirror of Dreams, Part I - Morpheus, having the author's notes (seen below) confirm that due to multiple time loops occurring, TimeyWimeyBall is in play, Chibi-Usa and Diana's existence falling under this is now Subverted or outright Defied.]]
--->[[spoiler:In case you wonder, the kitten Luna is now carrying to term is Diana. Temporal mechanics are funny in a way, and since Diana had went through multiple time travels, her essence in a way waited to return to existence. This also goes for Chibi-Usa, but don't expect Usagi getting knocked up anytime soon.]]
** This is confirmed in Chapter 36 by [[spoiler: none other than Chibi-Usa herself, who is still waiting for her own rebirth]].
* RetiredBadass: Ranma's great-grandfather is a retired demon hunter.
* RoyalBrat: Prince Herb qualifies by a mile. He feels that almost everyone else is below him, is highly misogynistic and incredibly petty, and doesn't hesitate to use his powers with arrogance. [[spoiler: Of course he's brought down to reality when he gets cursed and then gets his ass handed to him by Pluto.]]
* SailorFuku: This of course counts for the Senshi. Note that the girls' actual school uniforms are this as well. However, since they are all older and in high school, they are ''not'' wearing their most iconic uniforms. Instead they are all wearing their high school uniforms from ''Sailor Stars'', as can be seen [[http://www.angelfire.com/realm/magicalsenshi/GGroup2.htm here]] (It's "group34").
** Of note is that Akane and Ukyo wear these uniforms as well. Ukyo is mighty embarrassed by it and Akane is annoyed, since she had not worn one since middle school (she did not wear a seifuku uniform in ''Ranma'' canon).
** One of the things mentioned in the summary is "Ranma doesn't wear a Fuku."
* ScareEmStraight: A ''very'' reluctant Pluto gets forced to use what she describes as the extreme measure of using her power to show Ryoga what would happen if he actually killed Ranma; the realization that society would see him as a dangerous stalker who violently killed someone in his way and put him on DeathRow no matter what kind of Hell he'd seen made him realize that vengeance just ain't worth it. It was all obviously just an illusion, but Pluto's explanation to Ryoga was that it all actually happened and she was forced to pull him out of a [[BadFuture very bad timeline]].
** She also does this to Xian-Pu, but of a much more limited form (as she was already leaning towards ''not'' killing Ranma).
* ScreamingBirth:
** Ranma's birth at the beginning of the story is played straight.
** Later averted. The narration of [[spoiler: Nodoka, Saeko and Ikuko's simultaneous labors in the same maternity room]] at the story's end make clear that no screaming is involved. A lot of loud grunting and groaning however.
* ScrewYouElves: Running afoul of the Chinese Communist Party ends up badly for the Chinese Amazons. Super-cool martial arts don't work against a hailstorm of bullets. By the story present, their village is thoroughly conquered and humiliated, the influx of new ideas killing off their barbaric culture. Worse, outside ideas like "Gender Equality" have the village on the verge of a gender-based civil war, and their ancient enemies (such as the Musk) are signing up with the Chinese Government. Mu-Tsu openly states that if given the choice, he wouldn't return home as he has nothing to tie him back there (no living family that he doesn't hate, and his father moved away at the first opportunity).
* SecretLegacy: Ranma is descended from a long line of demon hunters on his mother's side, but his grandfather (Nodoka's father) tried to break that cycle.
* ShipperOnDeck: Setsuna is this for Usagi and Mamoru, arranging for them to have a chance at a more normal relationship.
* ShipTease:
** Several moments happen between Akane and Ryo Urawa.
** In Chapter 36, between [[spoiler: Setsuna and Helios]].
* ShoutOut: Numerous ones to other works.
** Akane winds up making, as Usagi puts it, [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipisMagic baked "bads".]]
** To improve her skills, Akane goes to a dojo that's run by a married couple: [[Franchise/StreetFighter Ryu and Chun-Li]].
*** And then [[spoiler: when the Dark Kingdom and Death Busters stage their final attack]], they call in more of their Street Fighter allies to assist.
** The virtues of the Old Kingdom are lifted directly from ''VideoGame/{{Ultima}}''.
** The way [[spoiler: Nehelenia dies]] looks a lot like ''[[spoiler: Donavan's death in [[Film/IndianaJonesAndTheLastCrusade Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade]]]]''.
** The riddle of the Old Kingdom involves three stone discs exactly like the ones in ''VideoGame/IndianaJonesAndTheFateOfAtlantis''. The combinations are also described the same way as they were in Plato's Dialogue.
** The big mana tree in Elysion of course is borrowed from the ''VideoGame/WorldOfMana'' series.
** Chapter 38 is practically a crossover with ''Anime/WickedCity''.
** [[spoiler: When the Death Busters and Dark Kingdom prepare for their attack on Tokyo]], the [[Anime/{{Hellsing}} Hellsing Organization]], the [[VideoGame/GabrielKnight Ritter clan]], and the [[Franchise/{{Castlevania}} Belmont clan]] are all called in.
* SliceOfLife: Chapter 24 is this, being episodic for the people staying in Minato for the summer. In general, the action is interupted by scenes of the teenagers going through their everyday lives.
* SonicScream: Usagi not only has it, but weaponizes it on purpose to shatter a youma that Mercury froze.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: The names of the Amazons are all written less goofy in the text. It's the characters who mispronounce it (much to the Amazons' annoyance).
** Khu-Lon - Colonge
** Xian-Pu - Shampoo
** Mu-Tsu - Mousse
* TheStationsOfTheCanon: Ranma's canon stations are pretty much blown away from the very first chapter and canon events happen from time to time, with a very different context. On the Sailor Moon side, canon events get more and more mixed up and by the time the Silver Crystal is recovered, all bets are off as [[spoiler: the Death Busters become active far earlier]].
* StressVomit:
** The first thing that Sailor Pluto does after escaping the time loop at the beginning of the story.
** Merely briefly viewing the EldritchAbomination that is Pharaoh 90 is so bad that [[spoiler: after he is defeated]], everyone ends up throwing up at the horror. Even Pluto.
* SuppressedRage: That was a big problem Ami had in the way, that she did swallow down her anger in her attempt to be a good girl and had no way to express it properly. [[spoiler: After the whole fiasco with Dark Mercury]], Ami does accept the fact that she has a dark side as well and works on constructive ways to vent her anger safely.
* StoryArc: The story is divided into smaller arcs, each of which has a theme or goal (chapter numbering corresponds to the numbering in the story, not what ff.net does):
** Chapter 1 - 4, "Life in Minato Ward": [[spoiler:No actual villain activity, it mainly revolves around Ranma getting used to no longer living on the road and Ami helping him with school. Has cameos from future cast members and mainly serves to introduce the setting.]]
** Chapter 5 - 8, "So you want to be a Hero?": [[spoiler: The Dark Kingdom starts its attacks, Jadeite is the villain and his schemes closely mirror canon. Ranma gets drawn into the battle when the Senshi start to become active and he decides to stand by their side.]]
** Chapter 9 - 16, "The Battle for Energy": [[spoiler: Nephrite takes over after Jadeite falls into disgrace, but doesn't prove any more effective, while the Senshi team is now complete and starts training. In the end, Nephrite is imprisoned by Beryl and Jadeite manages to secure the needed energy.]]
** Chapter 17 - 22, "The Silver Crystal": [[spoiler: The hunt for the Rainbow Crystals, and in the end, the Silver Crystal, begins. In the end, a big confrontation with the Dark Kingdom reveals not only the Moon Princess but also another surprise.]]
** Chapter 23 - 25, "Interlude": [[spoiler: Everyone recovers while the Dark Kingdom licks its wounds. However, new threats already loom when after various trouble, the Death Busters make their first move.]]
** Chapter 26 - 32, "Double the Evil": [[spoiler: The Death Busters enter the scene, making everything way more complicated. Then things really escalate when the Dark Kingdom awakens Nehellenia early, forcing the Senshi to face their own nightmares.]]
** Chapter 33 - 36, "Riddle of the Old Kingdom": [[spoiler: The Senshi are embarking on a quest to solve the riddle of the old Earth Kingom to find the entrance to Elysion and thus Mamoru's Golden Crystal. Their enemies are not idle, however.]]
** Chapter 37 - 41, "Prelude to the Storm": [[spoiler: After the recovery of the Golden Crystal, unknown to the Senshi things move towards a final confrontation. They don't know the new omnicidal stance towards the world by the Phoenix Tribe starts the countdown.]]
** Chapter 42 - 47, "Battle for the World": [[spoiler: The final battles begin, as both Pharaoh 90 and Queen Metallica make their moves at the same time, turning all of Tokyo into a war zone. The fate of the earth hangs in the balance as the Senshi and their allies prepare for the fight of their lives.]]
* TheTalk: Ami ends up having to give this to Ranma. No thanks to Genma.
* TemptingFate: In Chapter 12, Ranma makes note of the convenience that all of the villains' plots seem to occur in the general area where he and the Senshi live, and that if any occurred on the other side of the city, none of them would notice (see TokyoIsTheCenterOfTheUniverse). Sure enough, Jadeite figures this out and targets a different city altogether, namely Moscow.
* ThereAreNoTherapists:
** Averted. Soun is so messed up, he finally accepts getting therapy to get better. Kuno also gets sent to psychatric care.
** Also averted in that it is noted that while there ''are'' therapists, you still have to decide that you need to go to one. People like Nabiki and others in the Nerima Ward can't be helped of their problems if they don't go.
** It's noted that this is an ongoing problem in Japanese culture – [[ItCantBeHelped people are expected to bottle it up and do their jobs, no matter how unhealthy this makes them]].
* TokyoIsTheCenterOfTheUniverse: justified early in the story: the dark kingdom detected the general location of the silver crystal in Tokyo and synched their teleportation onto that area using their very limited energy reserves at the time, making teleporting to other locations impossible as they simply didn't have the energy to do it. It's then Averted by Jadeite after his first major victory, securing enough energy to allow the Dark Kingdom much greater freedom of movement, when he realizes that it's easy to keep the Senshi from interfering with his collection of human energy doing it subtly, which was how his first victory was achieved, or by simply doing it in another city, in another country. Since they're teenagers, they can't really get to Moscow in a heartbeat, and even if they could, they don't have the intelligence network in place to know that they would even need to ''go'' to Moscow.
** One of the problems with the original timeline - The people in Tokyo were furious when the Senshi bulldozed a large portion of the city in order to construct their palace, and the rest of humanity wasn't keen on accepting a bunch of inexperienced girls plopping down their palace in the middle of Japan and saying, "We rule the world now."
* TokyoTower: While the tower does appear periodically - after all the characters do live near it - it only becomes important at the climax of the final battle. The author admitted he saved it for that exact purpose.
** The tower also figures into Setuna realizing she traveled to the past in the very first chapter.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Akane and Usagi [[spoiler: who end up rooming together]].
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: Makoto. Akane ''tries'' to the point of asking Makoto for lessons, but doesn't have much success.
* TookALevelInBadass: Almost all of the protagonists, [[{{Deconstruction}} but the villains are nastier too]]. The earliest example is [[spoiler: Naru, who becomes Sailor Ceres.]]
** [[spoiler: Mamoru turns into Endymion to fight off Jadeite.]]
** [[spoiler: All the Senshi get personal training that let them fight off the [[AdaptationalBadass Seven Great Youma]].]]
* TrainingFromHell: The Senshi certainly think that what they're being put through by Khu-Lon is this. Played straight with Ranma, though, even after the trip. Happosai's treatment of Soun and Genma ramps this up.
* TransformationSequence: As per canon, all Senshi have one. Subverted in that the sequence takes mere five seconds.
** Further subverted by the fact that yes, the girls ''are'' butt-naked for a few seconds, as their belongings (clothes, jewelry...) need to be stored away for the transformation to work. The girls are of course embarrassed about it and Luna suggests finding private spots for transforming.
** Averted with Mamoru, whose transformations (Tuxedo Mask and Endymion) is so fast it just takes a second. It (thankfully) is also nudity-free, as he lampshades.
*** It turns out that the woman who designed the transformation sequence and outfits for the Senshi was "a hardcore exhibitionist lesbian pervert", and unfortunately there's no one alive who knows how to alter the spells.
* TransformationIsAFreeAction: It's not. Even taking only five seconds, the girls are vulnerable and Luna suggests a safe place for transforming (also in interest of their modesty). Again, Mamoru's transformation is fast enough to not leave him vulnerable.
** Unfortunately, Pluto reveals that the person who designed the transformation sequences for the Senshi was "a hardcore lesbian pervert", but since she's long-dead, no one knows how to change the sequences, so they're stuck with it.
* TranslatorMicrobes: When travelling to China, Sailor Moon and Endymion conjure up some pearls that will enable those that swallow them to understand other languages.
* TraumaCongaLine: Poor Akane. [[spoiler: First her mother dies, then she gets harassed by Kuno until she snaps after her father lets slip that he wanted a male heir. She transfers schools and rooms with Usagi to get away from the memories in Nerima, only to get caught in a youma attack and nearly drained. They let her in on the secret, but she has to deal with the fact that she's useless against youma. Then, to top it all off, the nice older man she befriended turns out to be a Dark Kingdom general in disguise.]]
* {{Tsundere}}: Deconstructed, like so many things.
* UntoUsASonAndDaughterAreBorn: [[spoiler: Genma and Nodoka give birth to fraternal twins at the end of the story]].
* {{Utopia}}: The prologue shows that there is [[{{Deconstruction}} a thin line]] separating one from a dystopia. To be more precise, [[spoiler: the Senshi lose the goodwill of the people right from the start by first not lifting a finger when disaster hits the world and only returning when the reconstruction is almost done, just to seize power. Bulldozing most of central Tokyo for their huge palace pissed off the people of Japan. The Senshi were horrible at ruling, further torpedoing good will. Then, Usagi had the bright idea of removing the evil from the hearts of the human race... but the thing is, that there are some benefits to having those negative emotions, such as Lust. Without it, or passion of any kind, humanity basically becomes a race of obedient automatons, who don't have the desire to reproduce, thus pretty much ending humanity.]]
* UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans: Pluto plans to handle the awakenings of Sailors Uranus and Neptune carefully to prevent them from developing this mindset. After all, she has firsthand experience that shows it does not.
* VacationEpisode: From Chapter 23 - 25, the Saotome and Mizuno families together with Akane are on vacation in Nerima.
* VainSorceress: Nehelenia. In fact, her vanity is so big that she is [[RealityWarper warping reality]] around herself to appear youthful. [[spoiler: Being shown what she really looks like causes her to make a critical error.]]
* VictoryByEndurance: How the alliance against [[spoiler: Happosai]] manages to defeat him - [[spoiler: by making sure the battlefield is devoid of any female and focusing on dodging his attacks instead of attacking,]] they force him to expend all his energy with no way to restore it, before laying a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown on him.
* WarIsHell: The Senshi get a firsthand view of this while battling alongside the Chinese Army against the Phoenix Tribe.
* WeakButSkilled: Akane doesn't have anywhere close to a senshi's firepower and sucks against Youma, but in civilian form she can beat any or all of the Senshi in hand-to-hand (except for Pluto, who is master-level).
** Ranma may be more effective against Youma than Akane is, but he normally needs Senshi help to kill one, though that changes later on. He is still weaker than the Senshi, though.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Pluto [[{{Deconstruction}} saw where this led]] in the original timeline and intends to avert it.
* WeaponBasedCharacterization: Each of the Senshi gains a personal weapon, fitting their character and/or powers.
** Mercury gets a bow and arrows.
** Venus gets her [[ChainPain chain]].
** Mars gets a spear and [[LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe shield]]
** Jupiter gets a [[CarryABigStick mace]].
** Sailor Moon can turn her wand into a MagicStaff. Pluto also has her own staff.
** Uranus has her [[CoolSword Space Sword]].
** Neptune may have her Deep Aqua Mirror, but in wanting an actual weapon, she eventually gains a [[ProngsOfPoseidon trident]].
** [[spoiler: Ceres]] has her [[SinisterScythe sickle]] from the start.
** Saturn, of course, has her Silence Glaive.
* WhereDidWeGoWrong: Ikuko wonders about this, considering Usagi's lack of ambition.
** Also more heartbreakingly, Sasuke, the Kuno family butler who breaks down when he reveals to social services how the Kuno siblings became what they are despite his efforts.
* WholesomeCrossdresser: Guidance councilor Setsuna calls out Ukyo on this and makes her wear the female uniform in school. Then there's Tsubasa.
* YinYangClash: What happens when Saffron of the Phoenix tribe falls into the Jusenkyo waters, the perfect transformation magic tries to mutate him while his perfect healing magic tries to stop it. The resulting magical interference ends up unraveling [[spoiler: in a massive explosion with the force of a ''[[NukeEm nuke]]'', which completely obliterates Jusenkyo.]]
* YouAndWhatArmy: Endymion says as much during the attack on the Mugen School. Cue horde of Daimons.
* YouCantFightFate: Subverted as it is Ranma's birth which sets the events of the fic in motion. Pluto also vehemently fights what happened before, as she saw what that led to.
* YouNeedToGetLaid: This is one of Setsuna's first thoughts for herself after she finally escapes the time loop to 1980.
