Given how long Naruto has been going on, it was only a matter of time before he used the [[DarthWiki/DethroningMomentOfSuck Dethroning Jutsu]].

* One moment per work to a troper, if multiple entries are signed to the same troper the more recent one will be cut.
* Moments only, no "[[TheScrappy just everything he said]]," "[[Administrivia/ComplainingAboutShowsYouDontLike The entire show]]," or "[[SeasonalRot This entire season]]," entries.
* No contesting entries. This is subjective, the entry is their opinion.
* No natter. As above, anything contesting an entry will be cut, and anything that's just contributing more can be made its own entry.
* No ALLCAPS, '''no bold''', and ''no italics'' unless it's the title of a work. We are about unleashing our TranquilFury here and no need for yelling.
* Explain ''why'' it's a Dethroning Moment Of Suck.
----
* Tropers/{{ms_hufflepuff2295}}: Naruto's fight with Kimimaro. He goes into demon fox mode, makes enough clones to fill up a football stadium, all in all it looks like this is gearing up to be an epic fight. And what happens? Naruto sends about 5-6 clones at Kimimaro at a time while all the others just stand and watch them get obliterated. Over and over and over again. It's one of the most boring fights in the series in this troper's opinion, and it showcases the worst traits of the anime - Inconsistent art style, making Naruto look goofy? Check. Obvious skimping on animation, to the point where it's distracting? Check. Naruto trying literally the same thing over and over again with no variation and being shocked when he's beaten back each time? Check. If throwing a few clones at the enemy didn't work the first time, Naruto, what makes you think they'll work the next fifteen times?
* Tropers/{{Sageheart}}: The Kyuubi/Kurama [[spoiler:being magically just misunderstood the whole time.]] I don't know about anyone else (and I hope I'm not ranting on a headcanon especially), but to me, the Kyuubi was characterized as a villain, ready to maim and kill indiscriminately at the drop of a hat - intelligent, yes, friendly or concerned with others, no. It was always portrayed as murderous, vicious, and cruel, only ever helping Naruto to save its own hide. It really rubs me the wrong way that after all of the development towards its villany, the Kyuubi ends up [[spoiler:being a good guy tsundere just because Naruto has to be everybody's friend.]] Its current characterization, and buildup to it, strikes me as forced and bizarre, very much against the character I'd been seeing before.
* Tropers/LilyNadesico: Manga/{{Naruto}} [[spoiler:hyperventilating and fainting like a pushover when he discovers that pretty much everyone is ready to kill Sasuke.]] And Kishimoto expects us to be understanding towards this FailureHero and agree with him? That. Is. It. I'm done with ''Naruto''.
* Tropers/DrHQ: We got a flashback to the struggle with the Kyuubi. We see Kakashi, Gai, Asuma and Kurenai when they were younger, being told to stay behind. Kurenai is specifically told to stay behind so that she can have loads of grandchildren for her father, because she's a woman. He actually says that. No consideration for her choice, just 'you are a woman, have children.' On top of every other sexist thing in this manga this was where I snapped.
* Tropers/DavCube: Sakura's CharacterDerailment. She seemed to be doing well enough for her character before, reacting as one would probably expect for her position, but then the Kage Summit happens and she blows it all to pieces. First, she tries to trick Naruto into stopping his search for Sasuke, which he doesn't fall for and just makes him angry. Second, she then decides to search for him herself, putting her teammates in harms way for her own justified, but still selfish goals. Third, she actually thinks she can trick him once the two finally meet up. Fourth, after almost getting killed by Sasuke for the second time in the course of the story, she stops herself before stabbing him with a kunai because she still can't wrap her head around what he's done. I could imagine maybe unconsciously missing, that would be a good way to write it, but full-on stopping? Bullcrap. And then finally, after Sasuke leaves, she outright states that she can't do anything anymore and has to leave it up to Naruto and Sasuke. In that one fell swoop, aside from her new abilities established at the beginning of Part 2, all her development over nearly 500 chapters is flushed down the toilet. This is why you don't give the distinction of the "embodiment of the weakness of the human heart" to the female lead, Kishimoto.
* Loekman3: For me, the moment when I finally snapped is when Nagato revived everyone from the village from a [[AssPull jutsu that comes out of nowhere]]. Firstly, it basically render any dramas of the majority of Konoha dying pointless. Second, it is completely out of the series [[AnyoneCanDie anyone can die]] theme; look at Asuma, Jiraiya, Chiyo, and Hiruzen, we [[TearJerker cried, we mourned their deaths]], that is what sets Naruto from the [[Manga/OnePiece other]] [[{{Manga/Bleach}} two]] shonen jumps in that Kishimoto is not afraid of killing of good guys and that is to me, one of the high points in Naruto. But, with Nagato's Rinne Tensei and later chapters, especially the [[PlotArmor Shinobi world war]], Naruto now is becoming no better that Bleach or One Piece in terms of [[DeathIsCheap how death is nothing but a slap on the wrist]] for the good guys. I'm sorry to say, but this is the official moment when Naruto has [[JumpingTheShark Jumped the Shark]] in my opinion.
* Absoltheharbinger: Tobi's fight with Konan. Okay, so Konan set up an epic-scale trap with her paper powers. Tobi's Kamui grants him 5 minutes of continuous invulnerability, so Konan rigs the trap to go off continuously for ten minutes. Afterwards, Tobi is nowhere to be seen and Konan is visibly on the brink of death from exertion. So Tobi just pops up out of nowhere and stabs her with an iron rod. Wait, what? Barring the implications of the only female Akatsuki member, as well as one of the only good ones, dying in her first real fight - Konan took a month to set up this trap, and almost killed herself managing and controlling the thing. So Tobi just pulls an over-powered RealityWarper jutsu out of his ass (and one that only Danzo and his eleven Sharigan had previously used) to literally cheat his way out of danger. It's kind of upsetting when one of the most powerful female characters in an approximately four-fifths-male cast is killed in a case of cosmic cheating. She isn't even StuffedInAFridge, as nobody but Tobi really knew that she had died, let alone used it for CharacterDevelopment.
** Rosse: This is definitely one of the worst moments in the whole series for me (which is saying a lot), because it just exemplifies how Kishimoto treats almost all of the female characters. She barely gets any attention as a character - I love her, but let's face it, her characterisation is "Nagato and Yahiko's loyal friend" - and once Nagato's gone, it seems like Kishimoto thought "okay, let's get back to my Uchiha boner!" Everything she does ends up being nothing more than a way to demonstrate how OP Tobi is, after being nothing but a SatelliteCharacter for her screen time until then. Even the injuries she did manage to give him are gone soon enough, and unlike Jiraiya's death against Pain, her death doesn't even achieve anything because Tobi gets his hands on the Rinnegan anyway! It wouldn't be nearly as egregious a death if something had come from it - like Naruto et al getting information on Tobi's Senju DNA (which I don't think they knew at the time), or Konan successfully wrenching the Rinnegan away from him. The actual character moments (Konan's flashbacks and the hop in cards) were actually quite lovely, but the entire impact of her fight on the plot killed the entire thing for me.
* Tropers/AverageNOOB: Look Naruto. I get you're an orphan who can pretty much be called emotionally handicapped. I get it. But What. The. Fuck. Dude. Hinata just said she loved you! Give the girl a damn answer! Don't fucking avoid her! Is it really that hard to just say "Sorry, too much angst." or "Not now. Sasuke comes first."?
* Tropers/{{TheDogSage}}: The Konoha Sports Festival "special". It's basically a long [[ToiletHumor poop joke]] involving Naruto trying and failing to use the toilet. Shino is uncharacteristically vindictive to Naruto and Chouji is disgusting, rolling through a set of port-a-johns with his jutsu. And the less said about Naruto taking a relay baton up the poop chute, the better. And how does it end? With Naruto finally giving up and pooping himself in front of all his friends. Seriously.
* Tropers/RayneCyro: [[{{Asspull}} The Great Snake Escape.]] Let's run through the checklist: Killing off my favorite Akatsuki character not named Pain? Check. Having him die pointlessly? Check. Having him lose to [[BaseBreakingCharacter Sasuke?]] Check. Having Sasuke win by breaking the established rules of canon and pulling off something that shouldn't be possible for even the Fourth Hokage? Check.
* Tropers/MicoolTNT: The ending of the Hunt for the Bikochu Beetle Arc. The whole arc was a bit of a DarthWiki/CrowningMomentOfIndifference for me, as I knew it was a {{filler}} where StatusQuoIsGod and FailureIsTheOnlyOption. I always suspected the Bikochu would smell the wrong thing and/or be stepped on, probably thanks to [[IdiotHero Naruto]], in the kind of ShaggyDogStory DownerEnding others can laugh at but always strikes me as a TearJerker. And I wasn't disappointed. [[spoiler: Really? Naruto farts on the Bikochu?]] The first [[spoiler: BottomOfTheBarrelJoke]] in the [[spoiler: fight against Kiba during the Chunin Exam]] was funny because of the perfect buildup and use of MoodWhiplash, but this one was just a DiabolusExMachina ResetButton that wasn't surprising, nor fucking funny. And, oh yeah, it turned [[spoiler: Hinata owning the Bee ninjas, and then Naruto's Rasengan against their leader's return]] into a NegatedMomentOfAwesome.
* [=Mic1988=]: For me way back in the Chunin Exams there was a Dethroning Moment. During the Exams we know that The Sound Trio Team is ordered to kill Sasuke right? We all know how that played out when Sasuke awoke with The Cursed Seal. Later on in the Exams, one of them, Dosu Kinuta, realizes that he and his teammates had been setup by Orochimaru and they had been played for fools. After beating Choji (which showed his abilities as not to be underestimated as he Curb Stomped him), he makes a silent vow to show to Orochimaru that he is not someone who can be tossed aside. So what does he do? Tell a Leaf Nin or a ReasonableAuthorityFigure that Orochimaru is the ruler of the Sound Village and is planning something? Save Zaku and Kin his teammates and thwart his Edo Tensei plans? Be a wildcard that none of the people who watch or read Naruto can guess who's side he's on? Wrong... he goes off and challenges Gaara and gets killed in under five seconds. [[FlatWhat What.]] Here we have a guy who is shown to care somewhat for his teammates (vowing to defeat Shino for crippling Zaku for example) and could show that even bad guys care for their teammates and comrades. [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter Instead he gets killed pointlessly and goes to show that the Sound Nins are all evil murderers and psychopaths with few if any redeeming qualities.]]
* {{Tropers/ncfan}}: An odd one, I know, but the number of deaths that have occurred in chapters 613 and 614. Yeah, it's war, so there's gonna be death, but just the abruptness of it strikes me as being the result of Kishimoto having looked over his work and realized that no one with a name's died yet, and that in his outline, no one with a name does die. It's just too little, too late.
** Tropers/CaellachTigerEye: While I was kind of glad that people are finally dying (making it feel like there are consequences to the war), I have to agree. This is worse than Creator/JKRowling and her HP Book 7 bloodbath - at least there, the fights were smattered across the book and it was where the action really began. Here, no major character dies at all until the [[EldritchAbomination Ten-Tails]] is revived, and suddenly people are quickly dropping like flies because their character arcs/role is finished. I'm not sure whether I'm more annoyed with ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'' for this, or with ''{{Manga/Bleach}}'' for its incessant use of NoOneCouldSurviveThat (at least those were spaced out more)... It's sad that Kishimoto couldn't find the right compromise within the SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism and had to resort to a nigh-unstoppable EldritchAbomination to actually have the guts to kill off anyone. Considering the major deaths prior to this were well-handled and balanced (ie: Hayate, Sarutobi, Asuma, Jiraiya, Konan), it's more than a little bit jarring.
* SuperSaiyan006: Minato abandoning Naruto and claiming that without Kushina he was nothing and unfit to raise a child. [[FlatWhat What...]] And Kushiha agreeing with him on doing it. Double What. Those two not only abandoned their less than an hour old infant son but did it with a smile on their faces, while knowingly condemning him to the life of a jinchuuriki, which they both know will force him to live a terrible life! And to make things worse, Naruto agrees with what they did after they mutter "I sorry" when he meets them. Dumbass doesn't even begin to describe him anymore; if my parents abandoned me even though it was clear that Sarutobi could've done the Sealing of Kyuubi instead so I could at least had one parent, I'd frankly tell them to piss off!
* Omega Radiance: The whole Uchihas[[spoiler:-love-more-than-anyone-else, and hatred basically being genetic as a result via the Sharingan.]] Not only is it a easy excuse for why we're supposed to [[spoiler:forgive Sasuke,]] but it [[spoiler:also invalidates Obito as Naruto's evil counterpart - even with Naruto's own formerly-believed-to-be-evil entity inside him, his isn't given the excuse of it being genetic.]] Not to mention that all Uchihas [[spoiler:seem to get them]] sooner or later, pretty much making the Second Hokage right in his views that they [[spoiler:should be exterminated]] sooner or later. Even Itachi shows that [[spoiler:his love drove him to do countless things that broke Sasuke out of love]]. With a entire clan of [[spoiler:unstable people who could go off the deep end from something as simple as their dog dying,]] it honestly makes it hard to see anything wrong with the [[spoiler:total annihilation of them all]]. The only one who seemed to [[spoiler:truly be sane]] compared to other Uchihas is Itachi's best friend Shisui Uchiha, and he [[spoiler:kills himself and gives Itachi his eye after his plan to brainwash the Uchiha leaders into cooperating with the village failed.]]
** Ashleybud: Chapter 619 is a definite DarthWiki/DethroningMomentOfSuck for me. I really hate Sasuke at this point and am getting real tired of Naruto in general, which is sad because Masashi Kishimoto is a great writer but he has this CreatorsPet thing for Sasuke to the point of completely ignoring and rewriting canon in an effort to make him likeable. You've taken his character to a point where happily making up is literally impossible, so accept it and move on. But what really makes this a DMTS is this notion of the Uchiha gaining their power because they love too much. No other clan treasured love like the Uchiha is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. There is nothing, absolutely nothing to support this; in fact, evidence proves the complete opposite. First, let’s take a look at the requirements for the Mangekyō Sharingan: the first one we as the audience were told was that the Mangekyō Sharingan is awakened through the trauma experienced from the death of the person closest to the Sharingan user. With the user normally having to witness or experience this first hand, Uchiha throughout history have killed the person closest to them in order to expedite this process. To obtain the Mangekyō Sharingan, one must feel the emotion of losing a friend or family, as merely killing them or watching them die will not activate it. That’s not love being tainted, that is killing a loved one in order to gain power. Then, to gain the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan you have to take and transplant the Mangekyō of another Uchiha — integrating the two pairs of eyes in the process. Once again a sign of the Uchiha selfishly sacrificing a loved one to obtain power because the tighter the blood ties are between the "donor" and the "receiver", the better it is for compatibility — a sibling for example seems to make the best donor. And they only do this because over time, use of the Mangekyō Sharingan's techniques deteriorates the user's eyesight to the point of blindness. So not only do they abuse the power they gain from sacrificing a loved one to the point of killing themselves, they just sacrifice another one. And when you think about it the Uchiha rebelling because they were forced to live in separate quarters doesn’t make sense because every bloodlimit clan lives in their own separate areas in order to practice their techniques in secret. They lived in opulent mansions; they could continue to be ninja and ninja police, even a few being a Hokage Candidate's student. Hell, even Madara's story falls apart when we realize there WAS a Hokage Candidate who was a Uchiha in Hiruzen's time. Them wanting more governmental power falls on its face when they run the police. Heck, this entire war is because 1. Tobi wants revenge and 2. Madara wants to erase the fact that he lost from the face of the earth. It’s pretty obvious Sasuke is going to be forgiven somehow, but at least make it believable. If only the Third had told Sasuke that the curse of the Uchiha was that they were entitled assholes who believe everything should be handed to them. When they're not strong enough they take the skill from their opponent, and when that isn’t enough they kill a loved one for power. When they abuse that power they do it again. If that doesn’t work they bend reality to their wishes. And finally, when that doesn’t prove enough they seal opponents within their own mind. The Uchiha were willing to kill thousands upon thousands of innocent people because they felt they weren’t given enough, and Sasuke’s actions up to now prove that the Third made the right decision. Sorry about the rant but I was so pissed that it took a while to put my thoughts into words.
* Tropers/{{Megadoomer}}: Chapter 627. Sasuke gets redeemed (though I'm sure everyone saw this coming) because he feels the need to carry on his brother's will. He says this in spite of the fact that until this point, he had wanted to kill everyone in Konoha, which he knew would have went against everything that Itachi had been working for. Aside from that, there's the [[CharacterShilling continued praise of Itachi as some sort of ninja saint]], Karin [[EasilyForgiven immediately forgiving Sasuke for trying to murder her]] ([[IgnoredEpiphany after realizing that Sasuke despised her and vowing to move on]]), and Orochimaru [[OutOfCharacterMoment deciding to act completely subservient to Sasuke's will]] ([[CharacterDerailment inexplicably casting aside all of his prior ambitions]] in spite of the fact that [[spoiler: he has all four of the former Hokages under his control to some extent, as well as his ability to use jutsu restored]]), all of which make this chapter the worst one in a long time.
** Tropers/{{Megacles}}: Karin forgiving Sasuke was easily the worst part of it. We all kinda knew Sasuke was going to HeelFaceTurn at some point (albeit we thought Naruto was going to be the one to do it). But Karin? I admired her greatly when she resolved to let go of Sasuke. And her breaking out of jail by acting Tsundere? Awesome. But instantly falling back in love with Sasuke after a brief "I'm sorry"? Words cannot even describe how awful that is. I'm personally crossing my fingers that she plans to knife him in the back, but I doubt it at this point.
* Tropers/{{KantonKage}}: I was hard pressed to see which Uchiha redemption story I found to be complete bullshit. Then it hit me, it was Hashirama calling Itachi better than him, seriously [[PunctuatedForEmphasis What! The! Fuck!]]. So all of a sudden the guy who {{Mind Rape}}d his brother for three days straight twice and killed his girlfriend is, for some reason, this saintly hero who sacrificed everything for our sins.
* Tropers/{{Lightflame}}: Chapter 599 and on. [[spoiler:Tobi is Obito.]] This so-called twist was mind-numbingly obvious, and yet it was dragged out for another year after people already figured it out hundreds of chapters beforehand. Not to mention how lazy it is. We've already had "what [[spoiler:Naruto]] could have been" in the form of Gaara and Nagato, and both were well-done. [[spoiler:Obito]] has nothing new to bring to the table, making the story repetitive instead of adding a cool twist like the reveal of the man behind the mask should have done. In fact, he's more like Konohamaru than he is like [[spoiler:Naruto,]] causing his [[spoiler:"what Naruto could have been"]] shtick to fall completely flat. Also, since he has no connection to [[spoiler:Naruto himself as Obito]], the focus of the story is dragged away from the main character, while [[spoiler:Obito himself]] ends up feeling more like a lackey. The explanation of the event was an overly long flashback, which was poorly written and required a retcon about [[spoiler:"magical hate chakra"]] for it to make any kind of sense. And did I mention that it wrecks the story thematically? [[spoiler:Obito]] showed that your heritage didn't define you, but making him turn evil changes the series-spanning aesop of "You can defy your heritage and choose your own fate" into "Trying to change your fate is completely meaningless, as you will always be an echo of your family." Meanwhile, it invalidates Kakashi's childhood CharacterDevelopment, because if he had completed the mission instead of protecting his comrades then [[spoiler:Obito would have died, giving Naruto an actual family, creating the possibility of Minato preventing the Uchiha Massacre, making the Mist a better place because its leader wasn't under mind control, letting the Moon's Eye Plan die with Madara, stopping Nagato from being as crazy and evil, and averting a world war.]] I am not exaggerating when I say that [[spoiler:Obito is actually the worst possible character to be behind the mask.]]
** Tropers/{{I Like Robots}}: Withdrawing my earlier entry to second this. Young Obito is one of my favorite characters in the series, but older Obito is awful. The biggest issue here is that Obito's survival and him turning into a villain ruins what made me love Obito in the first place. He was one of the few Uchiha aside from Shisui we'd gotten to see who wasn't a cold, emotionally stunted and brooding mysterious figure, or a self-absorbed, pretentious jerk. He was bright, cheerful, and a good person, which throughout Part II, where the manga had increasingly seen the Uchiha and the Sharingan as a SpotlightStealingSquad in more and more frustrating and uninteresting ways, was refreshing. He was the underdog, not a prodigy despite his clan name, who you rooted for anyway because of his zeal and refusal to abandon his teammate because of the rules. ''Kakashi Gaiden'' is one of the best parts of the series in my opinion, and largely because of Obito. I knew Obito for a few pages, and I was attached to him. His "death" was a huge emotional gut punch, and served to explain why Kakashi was the way he was during the main series, honoring his friend's memory, almost as a way to make up for his past mistakes and behavior, and what he didn't realize he had until it was too late. Not to mention, it served as a realistic reminder of the horrors of war and the shinobi system, forcing children to throw themselves into life-threatening situations, trying to get them to detach themselves from their emotions and feelings. Not everyone makes it during a war, and such a young, bright and kind child sacrificing himself to save his friends stuck with me. All in all, a tragic story at its finest. And then he survived, suddenly rendering that previous story and attachment moot. He returned to the series as a bitter, jaded and cruel person, which, sure, I know not everyone can hold onto idealism or optimism in the face of adversity, but the narrative ended up making him look as petty and spiteful as possible, with his attempting to end all free will in the world boiling down to "You let Rin die." I know his purpose was, like far too many of the series' villains, to serve as the cynic extremist that Naruto and company converts in the end, but even ''that'' wasn't done in a satisfying way, as with the "coolest guy" EasilyForgiven and DeathEqualsRedemption fiasco, [[KarmaHoudini all of the heinous things Obito's done at this point are pretty much ignored.]] Way to tarnish one of the best-written characters in your own manga, Kishimoto. The big lesson here, and one that Kishimoto refused to learn time after time, was that just because you ''can'' do an AssPull doesn't mean you ''should.''
* Zerohelix: Hinata almost dies trying to protect him yet again, [[spoiler: Neji did die because she was trying to protect him,]] and we finally get the slightest hint he's willing to reciprocate her feelings. Jump ahead a few chapters and Sakura's his "girlfriend". [[PunctuatedForEmphasis What. The. Fuck!?]] This manga is like the TropeCodifier for CharacterDerailment.
* FireShadow: Sakura's behavior in the [[Anime/NarutoTheMovieRoadToNinja Road To Ninja]] movie. Now granted, in the movies we often get [[{{Flanderization}} over exaggerated versions of how the characters usually act]] in the original series [[PlayedForLaughs for the sake of humor]]; however, this movie just takes it to a [[TookALevelInJerkass whole]] [[JerkassBall new level.]] She acts incredibly [[ItsAllAboutMe selfish and self-centered]] in the movie; however, its one scene in particular that really pissed me off. It happens right before [[spoiler:Naruto and Sakura are transported into the genjutsu world by Tobi/Obito]]; basically she was bitching and complaining to Naruto about how her parents were embarrassing her in front of her friends after a mission; Naruto, who may I remind you [[ParentalAbandonment doesn't have any parents]], basically tells her to shut up, [[DramaQueen stop overreacting so much and respect her parents.]] Sakura's response, no joke, word-for-word, was, "Sasuke would understand me". [[OutOfCharacterMoment Are.]] [[CharacterDerailment You.]] [[CanonDefilement Serious]]. The very same Sasuke who in the first few episodes of Part 1 of Naruto [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech stated, quite correctly and appropriately, how he couldn't tolerate her bratty, annoying and insensitive behavior]], [[HypocrisyNod spent many years trying to kill the ONLY family he had left]] and tried to [[AxCrazy kill her]] [[UnstoppableRage twice]] and Sakura now suddenly thinks, [[IgnoredEpiphany despite all that happening]], he would be able to sympathize with her [[LoveMakesYouDumb just because she still loves him?]] Her overall character has taken [[CharacterDerailment so many steps back]] since the time skip but that particular [[OutOfCharacterMoment unreal, insensitive and out of left field response]] was where she officially became TheScrappy in my opinion.
** Shadow200: Blame whoever wrote the script for that, probably the same person who did the goddamn two year long filler as well as the third movie. Sakura always get the short end of the stick when it comes to the anime. Though in her case, her CharacterDerailment in the manga is just as bad. News flash, Kishimoto, boosting characters' negative traits and making characters into obnoxious idiots is not funny; it's stupid and takes away from the product. Then again he probably wouldn't know with all the CharacterDerailment he's done as he's forgotten what the hell the series was about in the first place in favor of his preferred characters. And while I'm here I might as well give my dethroning moment. It was when Iruka coldly and rudely shoots Naruto down when he asks if he can put in a good word for him with Tsunade like the others' parents are doing to see if he will be made Jonin. Claiming he won't get special treatment (which he didn't even ask for) just cause he saved Konoha numerous times. Not even offering him a chance to become Chunin, Iruka; you're one of the nicest guys around and Naruto thinks of you like a brother and for you to act like a Jerkass to the kid who has saved your life time and time again makes me want to see a screwdriver driven into your socket.
** LordOfTheInternet: I second this statement. Sure Sakura, Sasuke, the guy who had his entire family murdered in front of him and went on a massive quest for revenge, would ''totally'' sympathize with you wishing you didn't have parents. Not only is this incredibly insensitive to Naruto, but also shows pretty clearly how she's still nothing more than a fangirl rather than a close friend of Sasuke who actually understands how he feels. It's the scene at the bench all over again.
*** Animeking1108: For me, it was [[AbusiveParents Kushina]]. This movie makes it clear that she is just an [[InformedAttribute Informed]] [[GoodParents Good Mother]]. First, there was her introductory scene, where she literally hits Naruto for no reason. Then there was when Naruto was moping in his room. Now, instead of asking her son what's bothering him, she breaks down his door and threatens him to come to dinner. And this abusive hag wonders why [[spoiler: Menma]] became so rebellious? If I had her for a mother, I'd be evil too.
* Tropers/{{Nakayama90}}: Chapter 655. Dear lord, chapter 655. [[spoiler: So now Obito's gotten the Jubi taken out, and is back to being human. Kakashi's about to finally give him his well-deserved karma, but is stopped by, of all people, Minato.]] Yes, you read that correctly. This is the same man who [[spoiler:lost his wife, and then his own life, to a former pupil, and said former pupil tried to kill Minato's son mere moments after his birth. And Obito was responsible for a war, which took many lives... and now, Minato and Naruto decide he's STILL redeemable, all because he lost an old love interest.]] Yeah, EasilyForgiven much?
** Zabilac: Adding to the idiocy. When [[spoiler:Obito is being hijacked by Black Zetsu]], guess what [[spoiler:Minato and Kakashi]] do? Do they try to [[spoiler:stop Zetsu or kill Obito? No, they frantically ask what's going on all the while doing nothing to help.]]
* Tropers/{{Raxis}}: Chapter 658, sweet fancy Jesus. Madara, [[spoiler:without eyes and with a living body, tries to rush the Bijuu. They gang up on him, treat him as a hacky sack and it just winds him. Shukaku traps him into a pyramid of sand, but he breaks free using Susano'o without eyes. He used an eye technique... despite not having eyes! Then all of the tailed beasts hit him simultaneously with their tails, and all Madara loses for that is an arm. Which Zetsu instantly replaces with a Zetsu arm and a new eye.]] OnlyTheAuthorCanSaveThemNow.
* Tropers/SuperSaiyaMan: Withdrawing my earlier entry for this. Chapters 659-661. After an enjoyable, humbling [[spoiler:[[CurbstompBattle beatdown that Madara got from all nine Biju]], he suddenly turns the tide after retrieving one Rinnegan]]. Now normally, that wouldn't be a big deal. But then [[spoiler:the Biju don't press the attack and keep operating under the assumption of TalkingIsAFreeAction. Thus, they all get knocked the fuck back by Madara without any sort of retaliation and immediately put on 'leashes'.]] Then to make matters worse, what does the Alliance do? [[spoiler:Just stand there like morons and make no attempt to help. And that's not the worse of it, when the chains are put on none of the Biju even attempt to fight back or even anchor themselves (like Kurama did against Nagato's Shinra Tensei).]] And finally, despite Naruto and Bee's seals being at full strength, [[spoiler:Kurama and Gyuki are completely extracted from them]] (you know, something that takes days to do for even the strongest ninja). All in all, leaves an extremely bad taste in your mouth how Kishimoto can't make one character strong and keep other strong characters around without the latter being turned into imbeciles.
* Tropers/{{Snowthefirst}}: Chapter 671. This is officially the worst chapter of Naruto. Let us count the ways: As it turns out, not only is Naruto the successor and/or reincarnation of Ashura, but Sasuke is the successor of Indra, and the story goes on to imply that this is the only reason Sasuke is evil at all. Even worse, the story then goes on to reveal that [[spoiler: Hashirama and Madara were the previous Ashura and Indra]]. If the story is doing what I think it's doing, stating that it's not [[spoiler: Madara's fault he's evil either, it was just that he's Indra's successor and went mad with the power of the Sage of six Paths,]] I may give up on the series completely. Oh, and P.S.: [[spoiler: Obito somehow put the chakra of all the tailed beasts in Naruto, and both he and Sasuke are being entrusted with a special power by the Sage of Six Paths.]] Talk about being handed things on a silver platter.
* Tropers/{{Eagal}}: No chapter in the series can top 233, which was appropriately named The Worst Ending. The reason being that it lowered the bar so far it basically ceased to exist, thus enabling future chapters to be as terrible as they are. At the climax of the duel between Naruto and Sasuke Naruto decides to throw the fight, instead choosing to make a small scratch on Sasuke's headband. Why did he decide to throw the fight? Because Sasuke bragged at the start that he wouldn't be able to put a scratch on it, and he deemed this to be more important than... you know... winning. 233 is just what the trope name says: The Dethroning Moment of Suck. The point where the series fell from its lofty position and into the quagmire of terrible it has since become.
* Tropers/{{ajr1218}}: Guy's fight against Madara, for two reasons: 1) The animation, and 2) the end result. Aside from the Night Guy, which turned out pretty [[AnimationBump kickass]] despite the Anime Time pace, Guy's prior 7th and 8th gate assaults were very poorly animated, made even more inexcusable by the months worth of filler beforehand. If Studio Pierrot were a respectable animation studio, they would have used the filler time to allow quality animators to do these very plot-critical scenes months in advance, rather that just [[CashCowFranchise milking the show]] and using their top animators for their shitty filler episodes. Secondly, the fact that Kishimoto made Guy's final kick connect [[ATeamFiring a few inches too far to the left]], completely sparing his heart and allowing his HealingFactor to kick in full gear, bringing him back to working order in a matter of seconds. Made even more insulting with Naruto coming in and overpowering Madara even faster than Guy, leading to the Tree ([[DiabolusExNihilo Kaguya's]] will) having Madara absorb it. Yes, even though there was a backup available for Madara, Guy's fight was copped out so that Naruto can steal the spotlight. Also, the way Naruto "healed" Guy is no better than [[Film/RevengeOfTheSith the Sith's life-force stabilization]]. Guy was essentially [[AndIMustScream forced to live for 2 or so years of debilitating full-body 4th-degree burns that somehow managed to heal on their own]] (perhaps his time in the Infinite Tsukoyumi helped). Made even more insulting by the fact that Naruto has Kurama in him, known for its insane HealingFactor rivaling Madara's. Had Naruto used Kurama's power on Guy as well, he would have ended up in better shape... though at least 2 decades older due to the mass-scale cellular reconstruction.
* ShadowAbyss: So... Naruto [[spoiler: has healing powers that surpass pretty much every living medical ninja's]]. Basically, all consequences barely exist any more. [[spoiler: Kakashi's Sharingan ripped out? Don't worry, Naruto can grow him a normal eye! Gai opened the Death Gate? Lol, never mind, Naruto can fix it!]] I know [[DeathIsCheap death has been cheap]] more or less since Nagato, but this is absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention that Kishimoto has yet again managed to fuck over [[spoiler: [[TheMedic Sakura]] by giving Naruto power that dwarfs hers in an area she spent years specialising in. Who the fuck needs a medical ninja with all their risks and uncertainties and inability to grow new eyes for you when you have Goduto?]] [[{{Angrish}} I... Just... Argh!]]
* FirewalledNonspeaker: Along with Naruto's OP healing powers, 675 revealed that [[spoiler: Rin's death wasn't as a casualty of Kirigakure's jinchuriki WMD plot, but of an extremely overcomplicated scheme by, you guessed it, Madara. Because literally nothing in the series can happen unless he was the original cause. Seriously, how did anything even fucking happen before Madara came into the world? You'd think he could've retrieved the tailed beasts by himself years before the main story if he'd avoided this bullshit ComplexityAddiction.]]
* @/ArcaneAzmadi: It's hard to pinpoint the precise moment that this manga irredeemably went to the dogs, but Kaguya being revealed to be [[TheManBehindTheMan The Woman Behind The Man Behind The Man Behind The Man]] behind everything was the last straw. Hey Kishimoto? Did anyone point out to you that you did this twice already? First Tobi was The Man Behind Pain, then Madara (the real one) was the man behind Tobi and now, after revealing that Madara was (implausibly) behind almost every single event in the series, you flip him over to reveal that OOPS! he was just a pawn of Kaguya. But that's not the worst thing. No, the worst thing is the Kaguya reveal combined with the absurd bullshit that is the reveal that Naruto and Sasuke are the reincarnations of Indra and Asura. With one stroke, Kishimoto has literally rendered the entire series a ShaggyDogStory! Now the only characters who matter are the ones who were dead for centuries before the manga even began! From a plot perspective Naruto and Sasuke aren't even characters any more, they're just character-shaped pieces to be plugged into Indra- and Asura-shaped receptacles crafted for them by destiny. None of their achievements, none of the skills they've worked so hard to gain matter because they have roles pre-set for them to fill. And the series has literally discarded ''every'' single precept that once made it worth reading. Guts, heart and hard work are more important than natural talent and bloodline? Nope, that's been inverted to the ultimate degree with the plot twist that Naruto and Sasuke get their ultimate powers literally handed to them because of their past lives and the last 2 "normal" characters left standing, Sakura and Kakashi, get literally told to their faces that they're useless! There is no fate but what we make? Nope, this entire plot is just a reenactment of an ancient battle by ancient personas which has nothing to do with any of the actual people involved (looks like Neji was right all along)! This truly marked the stage where ''Naruto'' stopped being ''Naruto'' and became a horrible TrollFic of itself; seriously, it's starting to make ''FanFic/NaretoTheScretOfShiobi'' look good by comparison! Possibly the best summary of the current situation was provided by a fellow forum-goer on a manga forum I frequent:
-->This has literally boiled down to a couple of ancestral grandkids with daddy's weapons fighting grandma for her fortune which was given to charity following her death. Who also happens to be an alien. Who also ate godzilla and his friends and their captain planet tree.
* VoidHerald: Withdrawing my earlier entry, the entire deal with Black Zetsu and Kaguya. Beside the fact we only got hint a few chapters before it happens, the following revelations basically retcon the entire Naruto universe, make things even more confusing, and essentially involve turning Zetsu into an omniscient individual. The sheer number of plot holes and inconsistencies is incredible.
* Tropers/{{CHPrime}}: Withdrawing my earlier entry for this one. Now, after all this time of building up Madara as a villain, it all comes to this. I'm just... wow. Everything he did, all the villainous acts, just hand waved away, because big, bad [[spoiler: Black Zetsu]] was behind it all along. And not just him, but every Uchiha in history who ever did anything bad is instantly forgiven because of this. The sheer lengths the series goes to to make sure that anything any Uchiha ever did is forgiven, all while making the entire universe revolve around them is just breathtaking. And this added onto all the other theme destroying elements, from the previous ten chapters alone (seriously, just look at the above entries)... I... I now realize. Collecting and following the series for what has been almost fifteen years, being inspired by it, seeing so much come out of it from fans and myself because of it, seeing volume seven win a Quill award... it's all been for nothing. The only way I can even begin to guess at a way for the series to make even a step to reclaim the slightest shred of dignity it once held is for the entire cast to run up to the camera and shout "We're [[TheAristocrats The Aristocrats]]!" I do not lie when I say that I am in physical pain the writing has gotten so bad. I... I am shocked speechless. There are no words for this... this... I don't even know what to call it, and... and... [[Film/ThePrincessBride it's been turned to fiftYGgggggggggaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]]
* Tropers/{{JusticEqualsVengeance}}: I think I saw enough twists to see that this manga has no sense of direction and that the author has no idea what's writing or how he's going to end this. He just keeps making more and more twists just for shock value. The last one basically transformed [[spoiler:Black Zetsu]] into a instantaneous plot tumor and I hardly can believe this was somehow planned. I just quit. This just... sucked.
* Tropers/{{TheMeteorKing}}: Chapter 682 and Naruto's use of a sexy jutsu to try beating Kaguya [[spoiler:and it actually working for even a moment or being taken seriously by the others.]]
%%* Tropers/{{Lurkingal}}: I actually don't have a problem with most of the twists right now. I like Obito and Madara. My main problem is [[spoiler:how they are done. These characters' back-stories line up perfectly with their archetypes and roles, but the execution is SO thoroughly lacking. I mean seriously, Madara was once a lonely, hurt boy who wished for peace yet got so twisted by the world he turned into a generic villain sue? WTF Kishimoto! Back-stories are supposed to flesh out a character's present actions, to make them seem more justified. Instead they give me a glimpse of a What Had Been character that's more interesting, sympathetic, and believable than this shit-talking trash I've been reading week after week. I can get behind that Madara and Obito are, underneath it all, two traumatized boys that just want to fuck over this fucked up world and create a dream-world that's all lovey-dovey happiness because, hell, as sad as it is, that is a very real human feeling. I can get behind the fact they pretend to be cackling maniacs to conceal the pain and instability they feel inside as their world crumbles around them. I can relate to this being a genetic disorder that runs in the family. I really could. However, take a page from Tom Hiddleton. Subtext! They seem to enjoy or revel in their evil actions too much and there no subtext of "god, what have I done" until they've been [=TnJ=]'d by Naruto. It makes what should have been rich and tragic character development seem cheap and pointless. They aren't Old Yeller that's turned into a rabid dog that needs to be put down to preserve the memory of your old friend. It's like they were rabid dogs all along, and Hashirama and Kakashi are TooDumbToLive idiots who were idiots (Yes, I've used that word twice but the situation is so incredibly stupid it calls for non-ironic emphasis) for pretending otherwise. And the Sage, dear god the Sage, the fucking Sage. By stating that Indra and Asura were reincarnating themselves in Mada and Hashi then Naruto and Sasuke, and that they've been repeating the same cycle of destiny over and over. But wait! Madara is too crazy for Indra and actually breaks the cycle. What was the theme of Part 1 again? Screw destiny! Yet we're supposed to think the "screwing destiny" thing is crap now that Naruto and Sasuke are fulfilling the Sage's dreams/destiny? As many fans have noted, long before this troper did, Madara is the hero the story deserved]].%%
* Tropers/{{Woodguy}}: Madara Uchiha vs 5 Kage. Before this fight, Naruto was beginning to show some drop in quality, but at least there was a chance to end the series with a well made finale to make up for previous bad decisions in regards to storyline. We were about to see 5 Kages united & going all out while Madara till that point was [[EvilIsCool well received]] for adding some suspense for finale. But instead of a well made fight, we saw Kages being treated as a bunch of rookies who can't do any significant damage to Madara even after teaming up & going all out while Madara pulls one new trick after another out of his ass to the level that was not hinted for any human to reach, resulting in an anti climatic, offscreen finish. Not only this was the first step at turning Madara into a boring villain who can't be defeated by anything the heroes bring or get, it completely destroyed the reputation of kages & the plot following this used too much [[AssPull shocking swerve]], derailed almost every important character & took the story to the point that many long time fans now don't even care about story & rather mock it since it's easier to enjoy Naruto this way than seriously as before.
* thezogg: Chapter 687. [[spoiler: Obito's Uchiha CreatorsPet PlotArmor]] has finally expired and he's finally dead. Normally this would be totally awesome since Obito is finally dead. But his death in itself was lacking, he dies a complete and total KarmaHoudini, he gets to pass on to the afterlife where Rin is waiting for him and will spend all of eternity with him. So basically the whiny little pissant who killed Naruto's parents, ran Kiri into the ground, corrupted Akatsuki, helped with the Uchiha Massacre, and started a pointless, utterly retarded war for his selfish self-satisfaction gets rewarded for his douchebaggery and gets everything he ever wanted. But wait, it gets worse. As a Uchiha he gets CharacterShilling, Naruto calls him "the coolest" simply because he once wanted to be Hokage. Let's face it, there's no justice in the world of ''Naruto''. Seriously, CrapsackWorld stories like ''Berserk'', ''Warhammer'', and ''Worm'' have better justice and karma than in ''Naruto''.
* ms_hufflepuff2295: For this troper, it was when Naruto found out that he was part of a prophecy. The first part of the series talked about how it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from, all you need to be successful is work hard and never give up. I thought the series was more inspiring when Naruto was the nobody underdog. You know, back when his achievements meant something and weren't just because of some stupid prophecy.
* Alexandri098: Chapter 688 is where I lost my suspension of disbelief. It feels like a Gainax Ending, except this is not the ending. [[spoiler: Obito revives for a few seconds, gives Kakashi the Sharingan without any contact and then goes back to death]]. Wat. Not only there is no way to explain this, but it could've been done way easier without any plot holes by [[spoiler: Obito kamuing both attacks, and with his last chakra giving his eyes to Kakashi and dying]]. But for some reason that didn't happen even if it would make much more sense.
* Bartzv: Like several of the previous entries, [[spoiler: Kaguya Otsutsuki]] being shoehorned into the big bad role after only being introduced 30 chapters or so beforehand with zero buildup or foreshadowing; and the reveal that [[spoiler: Black Zetsu was directly or indirectly behind virtually all the major events of the series for the purpose of reviving Kaguya]], also with zero buildup or foreshadowing. I could look past Kishimoto being terrible at writing women, I could look past the obvious retcons to part 1 material, I could look past much of the supporting cast getting thrown by the wayside, I could look past some of the major themes being contradicted by later events/revelations, I could look past Naruto's almost masochistic insistence on saving his "friend" Sasuke even though we never saw them in anything resembling a friendship, I could look past most of the plot revolving around Sasuke and the Uchiha as opposed to the title character, I could look past Pain resurrecting everyone he killed in Konoha, I could look past Danzo's rise to power not amounting to anything after he was built up as a major threat, I could look past Tobi being Obito even though everything that was intriguing about Tobi went out the window after that, I could just barely look past characters that should hate Sasuke's guts easily forgiving and rejoining him without even calling him out on any of the things he did to them (Karin in particular), I could just barely look past this war arc still continuing even though it feels like there has been multiple climaxes at this point, I could just barely look past every new fight scene bringing the story to a crawl, and I could just barely look past there being virtually no tension in this war arc because of the lack of significant character deaths. I've put up with a lot of flaws in this series, but Kishimoto finally lost me with these recent developments. Kishimoto, just because you wrote yourself into a corner by making your [[BigBad big bad]] too powerful doesn't mean you can ditch that character after building them up as the big bad for 300 chapters, replace them with [[DiabolusExNihilo a new big bad from out of nowhere]], retcon virtually the entire series in order to justify this new villain's appearance, [[spoiler: and then have her get defeated just 10 chapters later]]. That's the epitome of sloppy writing. When I look back at where the series has been, I'm hit with extreme disappointment that this is what we've been building to all this time: An out of nowhere villain is the true cause of all this conflict and the true final villain; and I realize that Kishimoto isn't nearly as good a writer as I previously thought (that, or he started out as a good writer and deteriorated over time). I was faithfully collecting the manga and had the entire series up to vol.65, but after these latest plot twists, I sold the entire collection on eBay.
* saiyan5ninetail: How Kishimoto has handled the character of [[spoiler:Kaguya]]. Originally, she was hyped to be this powerful and threatening entity, more powerful than the Sage of Six Paths and the Juubi. When she started off in the fight, she set a good precedence for her power, transporting everyone to a lava dimension and completely overwhelming both Naruto and Sasuke in terms of power. Then came chapter 681, and all semblance of her being a threat was lost. We suddenly went from a sinister image of her form as Infinite Tsukiyomi was activated, the notion she was this malevolent goddess... to someone who is crying because Naruto and Sasuke bear a resemblance to her sons, is ordered around by Black Zetsu at virtually every turn, and the most trouble she managed to give Naruto and Sasuke is when she sent Sasuke to a desert dimension. That was the extent of the trouble she gave them. Even if she did [[spoiler:kill Obito]], that did not stop him from [[spoiler:giving Kakashi his eye powers from the afterlife]], at which point she has been humiliated in every way imaginable. She is supposed to be the final villain and the equivalent of a Goddess, yet this is the extent to which Kishimoto uses her? Worse still is that she is now [[spoiler:sealed]]. Ten chapters after her entrance into the story, before which she was hyped to be more powerful than anyone else in the story, and during which she was still emphasized to be super-powerful... and she goes down in ten chapters flat. THIS is the "final villain" of Naruto? This is the ManBehindTheMan of every Big Bad in the series? This is just pathetic, and a terrible way to end the story.
* Gravityman: For me, the only thing that hasn't been mentioned yet was how the introduction of Sai was handled. So Kakashi is too injured to lead the team at the moment, Sasuke has turned evil, and Naruto and Sakura can't do it by themselves. That makes perfect sense, so fine, get in some replacements. But the way Naruto and Sakura acted when they first leave on their first mission was awful. Even granting that Sai made a really horrendous first impression, they still act unreasonably and uncharacteristically hostile toward him, mostly because they don't even seem to care about how they first met him and seem more hung up on the sole fact that he isn't Sasuke. Literally the moment they're away from the village, Naruto starts whining about how Sasuke is cooler and basically call Sai a cheap Sasuke knockoff. And then there's their reaction to Sai badmouthing Sasuke, which is to threaten him and then Sakura just straight up punches him. Again, this could be forgiven if it's them not liking Sai essentially rubbing Sasuke's betrayal in their faces, but not only was Sai mostly oblivious in "rubbing it in their faces" and just stating the facts about what Sasuke did, it wasn't even written in a way that made it really convincing that that's what he was doing, even accidentally. It really came off like they instantly hated him for not being Sasuke and then attacked him for talking badly about a criminal who betrayed them completely of his own freewill and nearly killed Naruto in the process. This was the scene where I literally changed the channel and officially dropped the anime, because that was the moment it became really clear just how far up Sasuke's ass the story was.
* Misstaken: [[spoiler: The way Sasuke chose to knock Sakura out in Chapter 693. She tearfully just confessed her love for him once again. He wants his final battle with Naruto but doesn't want Sakura to follow. How does he choose to knock her out this time? By using a genjutsu, which is understandable considering how Uchiha and genjutsu are. But what does he show her? HIM STABBING HER IN THE CHEST. That's cold. I'm not even a big Sakura fan and I think that she didn't deserve that. Even Madara let everyone live in their ideal dream world when Infinite Tsukuyomi. Not saying Sasuke had to show her them married with kids, but considering how Sakura always loved him, even at his worst, he couldn't have shown her something better than her worst fear? I don't care how Naruto needs to save everyone or how Kishimoto can't bear his [[CreatorsPet darling Uchihas]] being hated for being assholes, Sasuke is a douche and I hope Naruto kicks the shit out of him.]]
%%* {{@/Hobgoblin}}: Really, just the entire way that Sakura is written throughout the series screams of this. Sure, she starts out as a fangirl for Sasuke because all of the girls were taken in with the cool and edgy Uchiha. Sure, eventually she starts to develop some feelings for him when he softens up during the Chunin Exam arc and becomes nicer. Sure, she holds out hope that he'll come back someday considering he didn't kill Naruto. But once Sasuke is introduced in Part II and starts hopping from villainous organization to villainous organization, that pining becomes almost insulting. Sakura plans to kill Sasuke at one point (and has no real techniques to do so despite three years of training, mind you) with a poisoned knife and no backup, despite the fact that he's an S-Ranked missing ninja, the fact that he is in the process of killing one of his comrades, and the fact that she's supposed to be pretty intelligent. And no matter how much worse Sasuke has gotten since then, badmouthing her and attempting to kill the Kages among other things, Sakura still holds onto this childish hope that they can still be together, to the point where a moment in Chapter 693 that should've been used to have her finally call him out on his nonsense is instead used to have her spout the same senseless diatribe that he'd turned down and ignored twice before. When a main character like Sakura fails to learn enough techniques to keep up with her allies, that's bad from a shonen sense because people start to see them as useless no matter what they contribute. But when a character proves to just epitomize nothing but negative traits overall, constantly being in danger, constantly being a slave to senseless emotions, never having any real victories after a few early story highlights, it just becomes a testament to how poorly that character is being written.%%
%%* TallTroper: For me, it's gotta be how Hamura Otsutsuki was used. Just the mere mention of him is TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter. Suddenly we find out that the Sage apparently had this brother who was literally came out of nowhere, yet apparently contributed nothing to the ninja world worth mentioning. Hagoromo, his own brother makes barely any mention of him at all. Making this even worse is that he's the one who inherited Byakugan, so you'd think that he'd been mentioned earlier similar to how Madara was within the story. Also through this, Kisimoto could have given major props to either Hinata or Neji in their development. Lastly, if anything, it throws the story into confusion because while it's at least somewhat tolerable that Naruto, who has one half of the Sage' power, Sasuke is the other half, but by accounts of Hamura's existence, it should be a Hyuuga instead.%%
%%* SeanRenad: Each new reveal of Naruto's heritage and fate. A lot of time is spent in Part 1 getting Naruto and to a lesser extent Rock Lee over as proof that hard work trumps good luck. Then we find out Naruto is the heir to not one but two powerful clans. One of them the Senju being equal to or superior to the Uchiha. The First, Second, Fourth and Fifth Hokage are all blood relations to give this some sort of scope. Jiraiya didn't take him under his wing because he saw something special in him, he did it because he's Naruto's Godfather. He believes he's the child of prophecy an old toad told him about. He's also the reincarnation of one of the sons of The Sage of Six Paths, the man who is credited with the creation of ninjutsu (who shows up and gives him more powers because of this fact). All the downsides of having a SuperPoweredEvilSide are eliminated and all pretense of this being an EnemyMine scenario are dropped over the course of a single battle. If the series had been about showing how even if you have good luck that you still need hard work it would be one thing. But instead by the end it's clear that yes, some people are just born better and you'll never compete on their level.%%
* Dynass999: For me it is Sakura's character development towards the end of the series and her continually pining away for Sasuke. It felt disturbingly like reading about a battered wife clinging onto her abusive husband and trying to justify his actions with the belief that "he's a good person, just going through a lot of problems right now". Sure, by the ending, [[spoiler:Sasuke is "good" again and Sakura has a daughter with him]], but it cames off like a terrible Aesop as though to say [[spoiler:look girls, stick with your abusive husband/boyfriend/whatever, he'll eventually come around and treat you right!... by leaving you with your child to wander the earth on their own like a deadbeat dad.]]
** Kereea1: Agreed. Especially given how Sasuke treated Sakura from the second he showed back up during the war arc. He barely said one decent word to her and spent a lot of time putting her down, insulting her, and knocking her out with a genjutsu of him murdering her. And her response to him weakly saying sorry for it? [[EasilyForgiven "Sorry for what?"]] Coupled with the above I feel it completely invalidates any growth we saw Sakura make in the series.
** Doctor Sleep: Just the fact that Sakura and Ino get zero character development in terms of romance makes them look hopeless. Sasuke learns to love Sakura, Naruto learns to love Hinata, but Sakura still picks Sasuke over Lee while Ino compensates with Sai, who looks exactly like Sasuke. It sends out a message that girls should keep pining for their ideal man and ignore the guys out there who'll genuinely appreciate them.
** TheLuckyCat: While I disagree that Sakura should or would have ever picked Lee, since he was never presented as being a serious contender for her affections and she made it fairly clear she wasn't attracted to him, he didn't really know her well and being a NiceGuy doesn't mean he should automatically "win" Sakura, it does leave a bad taste in my mouth how all the main girls in Naruto apparently are fine with settling down and being housewives to the boys - even ''Temari'' seems to be living in Konoha with Shikamaru to raise Shikadai. This makes no sense for her character - she's the tough, no-nonsense kind who has a very important position in Suna thanks to being the previous Kazekage's daughter and Gaara's older sister, plus one of the most consistent ActionGirls in the entire series, but we're expected to believe she'd ditch her home, brothers and important political standing to play homemaker in Konoha? I can believe Hinata would be happy raising the kids and not doing much else, but making ''all'' of them do the same thing seems kind of regressive.
* Nyame: Kaguya. For almost a decade we've designated Uchiha Madara (both real and fake) as the true BigBad, only for both to be usurped by someone who wasn't introduced to us until, at the most, a whopping forty chapters ago. To top it off, it's a GenericDoomsdayVillain with absolutely little to no characterization or any discernible motivations besides WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity. Say what you want about Tobi and Madara, but at least they had personalities, no matter how overpowered they ended up becoming. There was little to no foreshadowing about this happening, and the justifications for it came off as weak, if not downright impossible. Perhaps the only saving grace is that she lasted only ten chapters and that the final BigBad position went to Sasuke.
* Lokiaesir: Chapter 700. [[spoiler: All the character development is thrown out the window, everyone is paired off at random, Sasuke basically abandons his child, whom he had with a woman he attempted to murder twice. Naruto is apparently so neglectful a parent, that his kid calls him a shitty parent to his face, and Naruto's only reaction is to basically say "This is my job now, suck it up." Despite the fact that Naruto can literally be in two places at once. And above all, this feels like an EsotericHappyEnding. There's no joy in it, no triumph. It's basically "And they all moved to the suburbs and had kids, because BabiesMakeEverythingBetter."]]
** Mhj0808: I second this greatly. Also, let's please stress the fact that [[spoiler: Sasuke had a child with Sakura a bit more, shall we? Now out of all the ways their relationship arc could have ended, Kishi picked the absolute most downright ridiculous ending possible, as well as the worst way to build to that conclusion. Sakura's attitude towards Sasuke quite literally almost satisfies the criteria for [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traumatic_bonding being a victim of traumatic bonding]], as she pines away after a man who caused her severe emotional trauma, sent mixed signals with kindness one moment and coldness the next, and of course, tried to kill her several times since preadolescence. Also, speaking of Sasuke, he pretty much showed no signs of truly feeling any sort of romantic love for Sakura all the way up to chapter six-hundred and ninety-nine. Even their last meeting as teenagers in that chapter very much so felt like him firmly placing her in friendzone once again as he was, as usual, more concerned with himself. And let's not even talk about how his years as an established CelibateHero was essentially deleted to make room for the pairing (as of this writing, he's even the trope image for Celibate Hero). The pairing felt like a last ditch throw to appease the fans after a dismal final war arc, and seemed like something you would read out of a fanfic. All in all though, the real issue lies with Sasuke's forced HeelFaceTurn (which, as we know, was a [[AssPull whole another problem. "Love too much"]], anybody?); Kishi seems to believe that making Sasuke good again for the last 3 chapters qualifies as enough character development to justify him finally being able to fall in love. The problem is... it just wasn't enough to be convincing.]]
* carlhummus: Naruto Shippuden episode 398. A tedious, excessively bullshit filler where everyone acts like a puerile, uncaring dumbass. And an entire minute of that episode is dedicated to [[{{Squick}} showcasing the mother of all fat slobs dripping with gobs of sweat and mucus]]. Plus, they're willfully sanctioning fatalities in the second round of the exams to get promoted. Fucking really!? Might as well hold baby-eating contests while they're at it.
* Retloclive: The ending of the Pain Invasion arc not acknowledging Hinata's attempt to save Naruto's life. Naruto returns to the village upon defeating Pain, he gets a hug from Sakura while the crowd cheers his return... and Hinata just stands and watches. Ya, thanks Kishi, way to make Naruto come off like an UngratefulBastard.
* [=JediMasterDraco=]: The last couple episodes of Pein's invasion are pure torture. Up until then, we'd seen Naruto kicking butt and using his brains and then Hinata comes in, not to fight Pein directly, but to fight him off long enough to free Naruto. This leads to her being defeated, almost killed, and Naruto going up to six-tails in rage. And then the fight scene, which should have been a beautiful moment to express just how much pain Naruto is in gets turned into something out of Tom and Jerry. Compare it to the last time Naruto allowed Kyuubi to take over and tell me which one is better. Frickin ridiculous. And then we have Pein be instantly forgiven. Admittedly, it's more justified than in a lot of other cases in this series owing to him bringing all of Konoha's citizens back to life. Oh, and then Hinata's confession gets absolutely no resolution. It's times like this when I understand why people drink.
* Tropers/{{HeartlessandSoulless}}: Before the battle with Kakuzu, Kakashi teaches Naruto that doing training while using the kage bunshin jutsu is way faster (1 person = 1 hour of training and 1 person + 1 clone = 2 hours of training) and more effective; and if that were not enough, he specifically said that Naruto was the only one that could do it, because he has absurd amounts of chakra (ergo, he already knew about how the Uzumaki lineage/clan was special). I didn't pay this much mind until way after I was done with the manga, but as soon as it hit me, I was like: "What the flying fuck, Kakashi? Why the hell didn't you teach this to Naruto before, you bastard? Didn't you thought it would ever be useful?". This is what actually broke the illusion of the Naruto manga to me. Sure, it has its cool moments, but I can never take it seriously as a narrative again.
* Tropers/{{MeetTheNewBoss}}: Naruto Gaiden chapter 7. Naruto and Sasuke talking to [[BigBad Orochimaru]] like some old friendly acquaintance despite all the things Orochimaru did to them and others, and seeming to have received no punishment at all, and in fact seems to be still taking bodies of other people. It's so ridiculous that I can only compare to DracoInLeatherPants fanfiction, of the kind that Orochimaru already received in the past. This is so uniquely bad that I will drop it for the same reason as I drop this kind of fanfics: because the author failed to understand and follow the source material. Yes, Kishimoto managed to fail in following his own work.
* Tropers/{{Typos}}: During the Hidan and Kakuzu Arc, Team 7 convenes at Kakashi's bedside to talk about next steps for reaching Sasuke. Sakura reveals the research she's been doing and asks what they can do. Kakashi reveals training for Naruto that both he and Yamato will be helping him on... leaving absolutely no consideration or training at all for Sakura. Really? Both instructors need to work with Naruto, and neither can be spared for Sakura?! That was bad enough, but then it got worse: when Team 10 went to avenge Asuma, Team 7 went after them as backup. OK, cool, with the exception of Shikamaru, it looks like we're gonna have some teamwork, right...? Uh, nope! Naruto gives his "hazardous bridge" talk to Kakashi, which translates to saying "I need to defeat this enemy alone so as to show off my new jutsu, even though he's technically Team 10's quarry!" and Kakashi eye-crinkles and says yes! As in, they pissed all over their "teamwork" theme that Kakashi preaches and Team 10 usually embodies! That was when I realized that Kishimoto really and truly didn't give a damn about teamwork and favored out-of-nowhere power-ups over character development, and that's when the manga went down the dumper for me. Sadly, I was proven right as the rest of the manga progressed.
* Tropers/{{savagegenius}}: In one scene of the anime, after coming out of a tough battle, Naruto starts getting his wounds treated by Sakura, but she accidentally kept tickling him in the process. Despite him repeatedly telling her to stop, she has the audacity to get mad at him for complaining and punches him (again), to the point where she complains about having to worry about him at all despite Naruto not even doing anything to warrant all of that. Oh sure, real nice of you to act like that towards your friend, you dickhead. Between this and the moment where she punches Naruto after clinging onto him all because he looked at her with hearts in his eyes, its no surprise why people hate both her and this trope in general.
