!!General
* ''VideoGame/AgeOfEmpiresIII'': One of the chief developers for this strategy title was by some accounts a massive fan of the Aztecs, and boy it shows. The Aztecs do not fit into the timeframe for the game and their technologies, infantry and naval units are [[EliteArmy nonsensically overpowered]] to let them have a fighting chance against industrial-era European and Asian powers, despite their [[UsefulNotes/SpanishConquestOfTheAztecEmpire historical claim to fame being a quick fall]] to a relatively small and archaic (compared to the units you'll be using in this game) Spanish expeditionary force. The development team elevating them to PromotedToPlayable instead of other historical Mesoamerican civilizations that survived the initial Spanish conquest of the New World and fought back against them (even defeating Spanish armies in battle) like the Incas and Mapuche feels very forced.
* Joey [=MacAdoo=] in the ''VideoGame/BackyardSports'' series. Saying nothing other than corny jokes ("You gotta MACADOO it!") in his first appearance in ''Backyard Baseball 2007'', he was destined to become TheScrappy. The writers somehow thought he and Ernie Steele (who is also corny, but actually realizes he is making bad jokes) should be the poster boys for the series, evolving into a Creator's Pet. Even worse: In one of the few Backyard Books, Joey is the main character.
* Tallis from the ''Mark of the Assassin'' DLC in ''VideoGame/DragonAgeII''. She's given a completely uniquely designed character model, is the main star of the DLC, presented as being right about everything she does and says, and is treated by the story as a super cool spy/assassin for the Qun while practically praising it without any analysis of the flaws of it, even if the player and characters try to debate it. Furthermore, she's voiced by Creator/FeliciaDay, who created the character for her web series, ''WebVideo/DragonAgeRedemption''. All of that makes it really clear the developers love her character and wanted her to be seen as cool, complex, and badass. Fans generally don't agree, and she's widely hated for being very obviously shoved in the players face for it.
* Ulysses in ''VideoGame/FalloutNewVegas''. All four [=DLCs=] build up the confrontation with him, with characters shilling him as your EvilCounterpart, a courier who has traveled the same journey as you and is just as badass for it, he has the best stats and equipment of any human character in the game to back it up, and Chris Avellone has acknowledged his AuthorAvatar status that represents his own views on the ''Fallout'' universe. Fan opinion however is more split, with many finding Ulysses too incoherent and pretentious in terms of backstory, motivation, and especially his speech patterns, and he was an unfulfilling payoff to four [=DLCs=] of build-up to your showdown with him. His concrete actions also aren't worthy of the hype that others give him, as he mostly performs incidental acts that would have occurred he had been there or not.
* ''Franchise/FinalFantasy'':
** Within ''VideoGame/CrisisCore'', we have Genesis. Essentially a Sephiroth knockoff, he acts like a spoiled child, commits numerous acts of murder and violence for no good reason (not even having Sephiroth's excuse of being AxCrazy) and is [[MurderArsonAndJaywalking constantly quoting bad poetry]]. Yet the major events of the game revolve around him, and the events of ''Final Fantasy VII'' are retconned to all be kicked off by Genesis. Worst of all, [[spoiler:''VideoGame/DirgeOfCerberus'' shows us he somehow survives with no ill effects, making him the ''FFVII'' series' KarmaHoudini]]. This might have to do with Genesis being based on popular J-Pop singer Music/{{Gackt}}. He only appears to be in ''Crisis Core'' to have a FinalBoss to fight, since Sephiroth's survival is a ForegoneConclusion.
** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXI'' has Absolute Virtue, a side boss that went undefeated for an ''obscenely'' long time. Every time someone did manage to find a way, Square Enix [[ObviousRulePatch went out of their way to squash those methods]] to render them useless (and often banned the players who did it). It's as if the developers enjoyed using the boss character just to piss off their fanbase.
* ''VideoGame/GuildWars Factions'':
** The character of Mhenlo at times felt more like the hero than the player characters. In the cutscenes, he seemed to do most of the thinking and talking, and he appeared to be..."acquainted"...with most of the female population of Cantha. In addition, that chapter was full of [[EscortMission Escort Missions]], usually with him as the person who you had to keep alive. (It helped that Mhenlo was actually a healer who was good at keeping himself alive, though.) Fortunately, [=ArenaNet=] dialed his importance FAR back in later campaigns and didn't make that mistake again.
** Lieutenant Thackeray ends up fathering an important character in the sequel with fan-favorite BrokenBird, Gwen. However, he was only introduced in the Christmas event, and since then his interactions with her have been seen as ham-handed at best, and [[StrangledByTheRedString outright forced]] at worst.
** Kormir was responsible for letting Abaddon loose, repeatedly ruins the player character's plans, sucks up glory like a sponge, and is generally a pain in the ass as long as she's around. For all this, she gets to take Abaddon's place as one of the humans' pantheon of gods. Players were annoyed, but at least no longer being mortal got rid of her. Then, despite the fanbase's known irritation with her, she showed up in Videogame/GuildWars2 to do literally nothing but lecture the player character on how mortalkind would have to fend for itself against world-ending threats because the gods just didn't wanna and were leaving Tyria altogether. Then she nopes out. When Kasmeer told her "Thanks for everything," a ''lot'' of players were thinking "Thanks for ''nothing''."
* ''VideoGame/HyperdimensionNeptuniaMk2'' is largely laid out in a traditional Saturday morning cartoon fashion. Two cartoony and decidedly nonthreatening villains, Underling (her real name is Linda, but everybody calls her Underling) and Pirachu, hinder our protagonists at every turn as they attempt to accomplish their objectives. The game's creators have since acknowledged that the Saturday morning cartoon atmosphere and Underling were mistakes. But what about Pirachu, the less popular of the duo, considered obnoxious by many fans, and who scored lower than Underling on the official popularity poll? He returns for [[VideoGame/HyperdimensionNeptuniaVictory the sequel]].
* For several years, the creative team of ''VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters'' foisted the paradox that is Ash Crimson onto the world. Overpowered, [[DudeLooksLikeALady a strange, androgynous appearance]], and storywise is one of the strongest characters and responsible for at least three characters [[BroughtDownToNormal losing their moves]]. The dev team absolutely loved him, but many Western fans wished he would he would step aside so more orthodox characters could get a chance to shine. SNK acknowledged these complaints in ''KOF XIII'' by having him ''[[RetGone alter the past so he never existed]]''. And the truly ironic thing is, they did so in a way that, right at the last moment, ''[[AlasPoorScrappy managed to finally make him sympathetic.]]''
* ''VideoGame/TheLordOfTheRingsOnline'' has CanonForeigner Thrymm Redbeard, a Rohirrim hero that came with the Wildermore expansion. All of the Rohirrim in the area shill him constantly, and when he apparently dies, they all go into a gloom about how no one else will be able to save them. The main antagonist, Nurzum, defeats Thrymm by grabbing him and throwing him about a mile away. You personally are not allowed to fight Nurzum the multiple times he appears, because he's too much of a foe for you. Despite all this, Thrymm's only accomplishments in the story are somehow surviving being thrown thousands of feet and defeating Nurzum at the end of the storyline. Yes, the character that you're considered subpar against ''killsteals the main antagonist of the expansion'' while you sit around debuffing him and playing second fiddle.
* ''VideoGame/PathfinderKingmaker'' has a Creator's Pet not actually made by the game's creators: One of the game's kickstarter backers paid 4,000 dollars to have a backer-made character show up in-game as an NPC with a sidequest attached. The ensuing quest is generally disliked by the player-base as it [[{{Railroading}} more or less forces you into backing the NPC]] despite the character in question being very divisive and supporting him being incompatible with several of the game's alignments. This general reaction to the quest [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MR-1t28ngkk&t=1123s was summed up by]] ''WebVideo/MandaloreGaming'' in his review of the game.
* ''VideoGame/{{Rayman}}'' fans typically deplore the VideoGame/RavingRabbids. There can be little debate about their hijacking the ''Rayman'' series and changing it from adventure platformers to collections of short, bizarre mini-games, pushing all of Rayman's previous supporting cast out of the spotlight, and spawning a large number of these games in a short amount of time. Their Creator's Pet status only became more apparent when two or three of them got a playable role in, of all places, a ''Franchise/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles'' [[VideoGame/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtlesSmashUp game]]. Thankfully, the Rabbids eventually split completely from their parent franchise and Rayman's [[VideoGame/RaymanOrigins started going on adventures]] [[VideoGame/RaymanLegends without them again]]. As for the Rabbids themselves, Ubisoft stopped pumping out as many games starring them after ''VideoGame/RabbidsGoHome'', and their hatedom waned in turn. ''VideoGame/MarioPlusRabbidsKingdomBattle'' caused a brief resurgence, as many fans wondered why the biggest platforming franchise in video games couldn't have crossed over with ''Rayman'' instead, but the end product was such a fun and charmingly written ''VideoGame/{{XCOM}}''-alike that the controversy died down pretty quickly[[note]]and Rayman himself would eventually show up as part of the [[VideoGame/MarioPlusRabbidsSparksOfHope sequel's]] season pass[[/note]].
* ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'': All the Deadly Six from ''VideoGame/SonicLostWorld'' were {{Base Breaking Character}}s at best, but even among them it's rare to find love for Zavok among fans, as he's typically considered a boring GenericDoomsdayVillain and lackluster [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Bowser]] knockoff. Despite this, he's one of the most reoccurring villains in the franchise since his debut, getting playable appearances in the ''Olympic Games'' spinoffs, mobile games, and ''VideoGame/TeamSonicRacing'', and returning as a boss fight in ''VideoGame/SonicForces''.
* ''VideoGame/{{Touhou}}'':
** Aya Shameimaru has long flirted with Creator's Pet status. She made her first appearance in ''Phantasmagoria of Flower View'' as a tengu reporter who was investigating the incidents going on at the time... and "accidentally" beat up everyone along the way because she was "holding back" and "not actually trying to fight." This would have been one thing, but she would, in some form, go on to appear in the next ''four Touhou'' games, including a GaidenGame with her as the main character. Her appearance in ''Mountain of Faith'' is particularly infuriating because most of the old cast, Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame notwithstanding, make no appearance in the game... except for Aya, who not only ends up being the level four boss, but is explicitly stated by ''Touhou'' creator ZUN himself to lose to the heroine ''on purpose''.
** At her peak, Aya was so bad that it spawned a minor [[MemeticMutation meme]] explaining that she had gotten into so many games in exchange for giving ZUN sexual favors. However, fanon often portrays Aya as a [[SoBadItsGood humorously over-the-top, so-obnoxious-she's-funny]] tabloid reporter with a penchant for taking embarrassing photos of the other girls. This interpretation of Aya is not nearly as bad as the one that ZUN has saddled her with, and it not only [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap rescued her from the Scrappy Heap]], but it gave her almost as many ''fans'' as she has haters, making her one of the most polarizing characters in the series. After a few games, however, Aya began to appear much less often. As a result, most of the Creator's Pet accusations have died down.
** Sanae also comes off as this, as she's received many starring roles and is generally being shown as being on the same level as the other two heroines. She's also received some polarizing character development; some like the quirky zealous Sanae, while others prefer her earlier personality. Her absence between ''Ten Desires'' and ''Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom'' alleviated this, though, with some people accusing one of the older semi-heroines with more appearances than Sanae -- [[NinjaMaid Sakuya]] -- of being a Creator's Pet in turn.
* ''Videogame/WorldOfWarcraft'''s ''Battle for Azeroth'' expansion had Nathanos Blightcaller. An AscendedExtra, he was abruptly uplifted from a nobody undead hunter to one of the central figures of the expansion (even getting a more attractive redesign). He popped up constantly on the Horde campaign side, to the point that he seemed to be leading every other battle, most of which ended in victory, and was constantly treated as a huge threat and the one man Sylvanas trusted, with no small amount of ShipTease between the two. The crowning pinnacle of this was managing to defeat Tyrande, a major figure who had been supercharged to the point of basically being a demigod and who was in the process of avenging a genocide on her people (causing the plotline of said vengeance to basically fizzle out), despite apparently being nothing more than a fairly skilled undead with a bow. Steve Danuser, one of the main writers of the game, became infamous in the fandom for ''roleplaying as Nathanos on Twitter''. The fan backlash towards Nathanos was so universal that he was ultimately killed off around the start of ''Shadowlands'', though he still had the time to do some EvilGloating.

!!In-Universe
* In ''VideoGame/RatchetDeadlocked'', Ace Hardlight serves as the Creator's Pet for Gleeman Vox, being over-promoted and having tons of merchandise based on him, even though it's very clear that the audience hates him. After his defeat near the end of the game by Ratchet, [[AndThereWasMuchRejoicing the audience celebrated]], despite Vox trying to make the defeat look like a tragedy.
* In ''VideoGame/ProfessorLaytonVsAceAttorney'', Espella Cantabella is beloved by [[spoiler:her father]] the Storyteller and treated with fear by the other citizens. It's said that if someone crosses her, the Storyteller will ensure the culprit gets screwed over by the story (which not only makes the villagers too afraid to interact with her, also makes them suspect her of being a witch).
* ''VisualNovel/UminekoWhenTheyCry'': Erika Furudo is the local (and self-proclaimed) GreatDetective. The human characters can’t stand her, but [[spoiler:her creator [[BigBadDuumvirate Bernkastel and Lambdadelta]]]] can't stop heaping praise upon her.
