[[Film/TheAvengers2012 He is Tom Hiddleston, of Midgard, and he is burdened with glorious purpose.]]

Thomas William Hiddleston (born 9 February 1981) is an English actor best known for playing Comicbook/{{Loki}} in the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse, in the movies ''Film/{{Thor}}'', ''Film/{{The Avengers|2012}}'', ''Film/ThorTheDarkWorld'', ''Film/ThorRagnarok'', ''Film/AvengersInfinityWar'' and ''Film/AvengersEndgame'' (a cameo filmed for ''Film/AvengersAgeOfUltron'' ended up getting cut from the final movie). From 2008 onward, he played Magnus Martinnson in Creator/TheBBC ''Series/{{Wallander}}'' adaptation, and in 2012, he starred in ''Series/TheHollowCrown'', a BBC adaptation of Creator/WilliamShakespeare's, playing Prince Hal in ''Theatre/HenryIV'' parts one and two and the titular role in ''Theatre/HenryV''. In 2014, his starring turn as ''Film/{{Coriolanus}}'' in London resulted in all the tickets released on the first day going in that first day--and people camping out for the day release ones.

He has rather a large fanbase on sites like Website/{{Tumblr}}, made up mostly of {{fangirl}}s as well as people who just think he's a terrific actor. They like to call him "[[FanNickname Hiddles]]."

As of 2022, he is [[https://www.cnn.com/2022/03/18/entertainment/tom-hiddleston-zawe-ashton-engaged-intl-scli/index.html engaged]] to Zawe Ashton, who he met in 2019 while performing opposite each other in Harold Pinter's play "Betrayal". They have a child together.

!!Associated Tropes:
* AscendedMeme: The mustache he sports in his cameo in ''Film/MuppetsMostWanted'' is very similar to the one he wore in a sketch for Josh Horowitz's Creator/{{MTV}} program.
* AwesomeDearBoy: He enjoys playing Loki so much that he'll appear in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALUCl2p4aFc comedic promos]] and make [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3R9g_VABesA in-character convention appearances]] if it means he gets to get in character and entertain the fans.
* CelebrityResemblance:
** To the late Creator/LeslieHoward due to their physical resemblances, English ethnicities and gentleman-ish acting skills in their roles.
** He bears an uncanny resemblance to the late Music/HankWilliams (who he played in the 2016 biopic ''I Saw The Light''), Creator/RichardEGrant (which was utilized when Grant played an older version of [[{{Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse}} Loki]] in a couple episodes of ''Series/Loki2021''), and UsefulNotes/{{NASCAR}} driver Ryan Blaney.
* DyeHard: His natural hair colour is [[https://i.imgur.com/ArHuPvI.jpg blond]]. He's best know for playing TallDarkAndHandsome roles with dyed hair.
* DyeingForYourArt: From blond curls to Loki's straight black locks. He also did extensive physical preparation for the role; after gaining a great deal of muscle to play Thor, he trimmed down and studied UsefulNotes/{{capoeira}}, among other things, to play Loki.
* EnforcedMethodActing: During the filming of ''Thor: The Dark World'', Natalie Portman was, in her own words, "so bad at pretending to hit him", that it was decided she should hit Hiddleston for real.
* EvilBrit: Appears in Jaguar's 2014 Super Bowl commercial "British Villains: Good to be Bad" alongside Creator/MarkStrong and Creator/BenKingsley, as a very British supervillain who drinks tea in a flying helicopter without spilling a single drop.
* EvilSoundsDeep / EvilSoundsRaspy: Both as Loki and as the "British villain" in the Jaguar advert, he slips into a deep, gravelly voice whenever he's being particularly fiendish.
* FanCommunityNickname: His more dedicated fans call themselves "Hiddlestoners" or "Loki's Army."
* LargeHam: As seen in some of his more famous roles; he's a classically trained actor.
* ManOfAThousandVoices: While he hasn't done a large amount of strict voice work (only a few voice overs in documentaries and his roles in ''[[Franchise/DisneyFairies The Pirate Fairy]]'', ''WesternAnimation/{{Trollhunters}}'', and ''WesternAnimation/EarlyMan''), he has been shown in the past to be a pretty adept impressionist, able to imitate almost any voice an interviewer can throw at him, such as Creator/ChrisEvans, Creator/ChrisHemsworth, Creator/OwenWilson, Creator/SamuelLJackson, [[Series/SesameStreet Cookie Monster]], and several others. For the Music/HankWilliams biopic ''Film/ISawTheLight'' he provided his own singing for the role, and once read a letter from Creator/MarlonBrando in Brando's voice. During an appearance on ''Series/TheGrahamNortonShow'', he spent several minutes gushing towards Creator/RobertDeNiro before doing a rendition of De Niro's monologue from ''Film/{{Heat}}'' that is so spot-on that De Niro himself was impressed. And it was put to good use onscreen in ''Series/TheHollowCrown'', with him eerily seeming to become Creator/JeremyIrons when Prince Hal is imitating his father.
* PlayingATree: In a school play, he once played the front-right leg of an elephant Creator/EddieRedmayne was riding.
* PromotedFanboy: In the 2012 [=BAFTAs=], he met Miss Piggy for an interview and was visibly excited, claiming he'd been a fan of her since his childhood. Two years later, he has a small role in ''Film/MuppetsMostWanted''.
* SesameStreetCred: Once taught Cookie Monster about delayed gratification.
* ShakespearianActors: Played Prince Hal in ''Series/TheHollowCrown''. His classical acting background is evident in his performance as Loki, directed by fellow Bard enthusiast Creator/KennethBranagh.
* StarMakingRole: Loki in ''Film/{{Thor}}'' and ''Film/{{The Avengers|2012}}'' made him famous.
* WhatBeautifulEyes: During an interview for the movie ''Literature/WarHorse'', director Richard Curtis commented that his eyes are so piercing that Creator/JeremyIrvine started crying in the scene where Nicholls buys Joey just to "distract people from the blueness".
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Hiddleston originally tried out for the role of ''Thor''. He didn't get the part but impressed the casting directors who tapped him for Loki instead and the rest is history.
-->'''Craig Kyle:''' At first Tom was up for Thor. He trained, he came in, he was ripped, y'know, he was swinging the hammer. He did a tremendous job, but he wasn't Thor. The moment he came in and read though, he was Loki.
* WhyFandomCantHaveNiceThings: Hiddleston once had a very good relationship with his fans, but some of them have gone too far and caused him to at least partially withdraw from social media, with actions including, but not limited to, camping outside his hotel when he's been filming, posing as work colleagues to meet him for their own personal reasons, linking RuleThirtyFour fanart to him (despite his repeated indications that it makes him ''very'' uncomfortable), sending death threats to women for being in his proximity, and so on.
