Hey guys!

[[https://www.nigahiga.net Ryan Higa]] (born June 6, 1990), better known as [[https://www.youtube.com/user/nigahiga Nigahiga]], is a Website/YouTube creator with over 20 million subscribers. He was formerly the most-subscribed [=YouTuber=] from 2009 (achieved at around 1.3 million subscribers) to 2011 (at around 4 million).

His videos include:

* His older "How to be" guides, all of which were originally taken down because of copyright, but now some of them have been readded. These include "How to be {{Emo}}", "How to be Gangster", "How to be {{Ninja}}", and, among the still-removed ones, "How to be Nerd" and "How to be UFC Fighter";
** He still makes a fair amount of "How To" videos, including "How to be a Youtuber", "How to be a Rapper", "How to Sing Like Your Favorite Artists", and "How to Act Like Your Favorite Actors", though these are done in a different style from the older ones;
* The {{Parody Commercial}}s, which take CommercialTropes to the extreme;
* His "Off the Pill rants", where he talks about anything that bugs him while staying off his [=ADHD=] medicine (hence the title), and later {{Retool}}ed into a podcast with the same name;
* "Movies in Minutes", which are movie spoofs in, well, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin minutes]];
* His "Rants", which are also ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin;
* The "Skitzo" productions, which involve him and three of his personas: R-Dizzle, Hanate, and Regina.
* And "Dear Ryan", where Ryan humorously answer questions people ask in [=YouTube=] comments.
* He's also started a series called "Expectations vs. Reality" which only has two entries so far.
* Along with all these, he has made at least 11 music videos.

Since 2020, he's largely moved on from [=YouTube=] and now does LetsPlay streams on Platform/{{Twitch}} with highlights going to his side channel [=HigaTV=].

One of his more notable projects was an internet movie he created with Creator/WongFuProductions called "Agents of Secret Stuff". Tropes exclusively from A.S.S. ([[HehHehYouSaidX teehee]]) should be placed below examples from the regular videos.
----
!!Examples of tropes from videos:
* ActingForTwo: Played for laughs a lot of the time, with Ryan actually interacting with "himself" as a joke.
** Ryan acts for ''four'' in Skitzo.
** Taken even further in ''The Last Skitzo!'' where he plays ''three more'' characters.
** Invoked in Movies in Minutes: [[Film/TheAvengers2012 Avengerz]]. Ryan acts as [[ComicBook/CaptainAmerica Captain Canadia]], [[Film/IronMan Ironing Man]], [[ComicBook/TheMightyThor The-Or]], [[ComicBook/TheIncredibleHulk The Incredible Anger Management Hulk]], Franchise/{{Batman}} and ComicBook/SpiderMan.
* AerithAndBob: A RunningGag in his "How To Be" series.
--> '''Hanate''': [[JapaneseRanguage Herro]], everyone! My name is [[OverlyLongName Hanate Wakuso Shiseo Tadashite Teriyaki Suzuki Honda Civic!]]
--> [[spoiler:'''Bob''']]: Herro! My name is... [[spoiler:Bob.]]
* AIIsACrapshoot: The iNavigator is not evil in any ways, but it tends to piss the user off with its inefficiencies.
** The Google Glass Human is more malignant, guiding its user into a pool, automatically turning down dates, and downright refusing commands. It eventually ends up killing its user via Fartillery or "Automatic Fragrance" or simply "AM Fragrance".
* AllegedlyDateless: Ryan hasn't had an official relationship since his ex Tarynn from some of his first videos. He admits it's due to him [[ComedicSociopathy being really bad]] [[MinorFlawMajorBreakup at dating people]].
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfeys7Jfnx8 "Nice Guys"]] music video by him, WebVideo/KevJumba, and Chester See, deconstructs this, since the class that Ryan and Kevin take has this in mind, but their dates leave them.
* AllJustADream: [[spoiler:''The Last Skitzo!'' turns out to be an elaborate story told by Hanate.]]
* AnswersToTheNameOfGod: In "Things That Ruin Thanksgiving," the family is saying grace over dinner...to which Ryan instinctively says "you're welcome" when God is being thanked for the feast.
* ArcWords: [[spoiler:"I stay home, cook rice!" turns into one in ''The Last Skitzo!''.]]
* ArtEvolution: Just compare "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdLCEwEFCMU How to be Ninja]]" to "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4Qv26IWyGU Candy Crush The Movie]]".
* ArtisticLicenseMartialArts: Mostly [[AvertedTrope averted]] in "How to Be Ninja", as Ryan was actually executing some legit judo moves.
* AsianAndNerdy: The personal trainers in "How to Be Nerd", but only because they're played by Ryan and Sean.
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny:
%% ** Off the Pill rants.
** Mocked in Forever Alone:
--> "Yeah... so I have A.D.H.D. Forever AD... [[LampshadeHanging oh look, a butterfly.]]"
* AutoTune: From "Off the Pill: Music/RebeccaBlack (Music/{{Friday}})"
--> '''Ryan''': I can't sing so I AutoTune myself.
* BaitAndSwitch: In "Nice Guys", while singing about how he'll treat his girlfriend, Ryan sings [[DomesticAbuse "Imma beat you!" while showing him aggressively slapping...]] a tennis ball with his tennis racket, causing the ball to hit his girlfriend in the face while he sings "--in every competition!".
** KevJumba's version of the music video didn't show tha
** Ryan [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYAmSXpeFjM painting in]] the style of a ''Creator/BobRoss'' parody makes it look like that he's going to draw something weird or terrible for the sake of a joke, but he actually draws a pretty good painting actually in the style of Bob Ross.
* BaitAndSwitchComment: The sales pitch for [=GiveUpandSettle.com=].
-->"Here at [=GiveUpandSettle.com=], we believe there's someone in the world that is perfect for you, and we're here to help you... ''(music briefly stops)'' get over the fact that you're never gonna meet that person."
* BatDeduction: "The Next Viral [=YouTube=] Trend!" and "The New Rick Roll!" have Ryan attempting the next big 'net sensation with a series of these deductions.
* BitingTheHandHumor: Around the late 2010s, Ryan has become increasingly critical of Youtube and its practices.
* BoastfulRap: Discussed in "Off the Pill: Arrogant People", where Ryan notes that many songs on the market are very self-promoting. He then imagines what "[[Music/ChrisBrown Look at Me Now]]" would sound like if Music/ChrisBrown was modest.
--> ''Yes, yes. That *** look like a two-pay''
--> ''I get what you get in ten years, in eleven years''
* BobRossRib: Ryan stars as Rob Boss in "Ryan Tries: A Bob Ross Tutorial". He actually does follow a Bob Ross tutorial very closely, but ends the video with a ClusterBleepBomb and encourages his viewers to just be real.
* {{Bowdlerize}}: A PetPeeveTrope of his; {{Discussed|Trope}} in "Censorship Makes no Sense".
* BrandX: In 5 Steps To Be Badass, where Ryan holds a can of "Beer Light" that's just a Bud Light can with a piece of tape with writing on it slapped over it.
* BrickJoke: His videos have so many brick jokes you can create a Great Wall of Jokes.
* TheBusCameBack:
** Meta Example. Ryan's best friend, Sean, disappeared from his videos for several years due to college commitments with both of them. Around 2012, he started appearing regularly now that he lives in Nevada and can easily travel to Ryan's house.
** [[spoiler:Tham and Steve]] in The New Show!
** The big bouncing inflatable green ball in ''How To Be Ninja 2.0''.
* ButWaitTheresMore: Often, but especially prominent in the Children's Bop commercial, which came with Puberty Bob, Speech Impediment Stuttering Bop, and a free order of Bi Bim Bap.
** A notable FreezeFrameBonus in "Hard and Black Realistic But Not Real Gun" has the text read "Butt Weight".
* CallBack: His videos occasionally do this.
** The video for his "TEEHEE BAND" references the "[=ShamWOOHOO=]", except instead of spilling liquids all over his table, [[ItMakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext he spills table all over his liquids.]]
** His WebVideo/EpicMealTime parody references the spilling of table all over his liquids.
** The "Butt Weight" joke from "Hard and Black Realistic But Not Real Gun" makes a return in "Google Glass Human".
** In "The Daily Life of Rustin Hieber", Rustin calls his vocal trainer a "vocal-stiloliger-izer-ist". Years later, the term reappears when Ryan calls himself one in "How to Sing Like Your Favorite Artists!".
** The airport in "Romantic Cliches in Real Life" is [=EveRy=] which is the name of the parody airlines he made.
** His video "Nintendoe Paper" also references the [=ShamWOOHOO=] video when he suggested using the Nintendoe Paper as a "2009 cleaning device".
* TheCameo: Ryan's brother made one in his "Off the Pill: Weird People" video, who appeared so quickly and said so little that [[StrongFamilyResemblance some mistook him for Ryan himself]]. Also, New York Knicks EnsembleDarkHorse Jeremy Lin (back then a member of the Golden State Warriors) made a cameo in the "Daily Life of a Basketballer" video. Ryan himself cameoed in Lin's own "How to get into Harvard" video.
* CampGay: Pong from his Best Crew videos is a downplayed example.
* CatchPhrase: '''[[EveryEpisodeEnding TEEHEE]]'''
** "Just kidding!.. but seriously" shows up a lot as well.
** "Okay, so maybe I exaggerated. A little bit."
* CerebusSyndrome: [[spoiler:''The Last Skitzo!'' is initially a comedy like the rest of the Skitzo episodes, but quickly dissolves into a murder mystery. See WhamEpisode below. ]]
* ComedicSociopathy: He and WebVideo/KevJumba get called out on it by their girlfriends in "Nice Guys".
* CompanionCube: Ryan's lamps, iron, and, in the earlier videos, his [[InsistentTerminology big bouncing inflatable green ball]].
* CompositeCharacter: He mashes up a bunch of Youtube usernames in "How to be a Youtube Celebrity", resulting in...
--> "Yo! Wassup? My name is Mystery [[WebVideo/KevJumba Kev]] Dawson Smoshem G Fu Productions!"
* ContinuityNod: The "How to Be Videos" have hints of this.
--> "I know how to be ninja now!"
* CloudCuckoolander: Oh, ''definitely.''
* ClusterFBomb: One of the steps to being gangster, along with MilkingTheGiantCow.
* CrowdHockey: Parodied when Ryan crawls on the floor for a gun to defeat his EvilTwin, only for it to keep getting kicked around by absolutely nothing.
* {{Deconstruction}}: Of PeerPressureMakesYouEvil in "How to be Nerd".
* DiscriminateAndSwitch: In "Daily Life of a Basketballer" Jeremy Lin believes that the reason "[=LeBryant=] Jordanicus Walton" refuses to learn basketball from him is because he is not a black basketball player. According to "[=LeBryant=]", it's because Jeremy doesn't have an 'a' in his name.
* DisorganizedOutlineSpeech: According to "Off the Pill: Weird People", if people continue to conform to normality, everyone will gain the power to crawl all over the walls... [[AttentionDeficitOohShiny and Ryan hates spiders]].
* TheDitz[=/=]TooDumbToLive: Regina in the Skitzo videos is the dumbest of the four.
** LampshadeHanging on this is both {{Inverted|Trope}} and {{Subverted|Trope}} in Off The Pill-Feminists
---> '''Regina:''' Oh sure, make the girl character stupid.
---> '''Ryan:''' What are you talking about? I have guy characters just as stupid as you
---> '''Regina:''' [[HypocriticalHumor Oh, so now you're calling me stupid?]]
---> '''Ryan:''' [[RhetoricalQuestionBlunder Yes.]]
* DoesThisMakeMeLookFat: Ryan's girlfriend in "Nice Guys" asks him this. She looks great. [[{{Jerkass}} He answers "yes" anyway]].
--> To quote, ''"Hell yeah, you do! Wait, let me speak your language: 'Cows go moo!'"''
* DomesticAbuse:
** Subverted in "Nice Guys".
--->'''Ryan:''' And imma beat you... in every competition!
** Lampshaded in depth when Ryan explains why he'd be a bad boyfriend in [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin "The Worst Boyfriend Ever."]]
* DoubleStandard: {{Discussed|Trope}} in "Off the Pill - Feminist", where he especially questions why females consider compliments to their breasts offensive while males don't do the same about compliments to their muscles.
** "Guys Vs. Girls- Romance" discusses this
* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: Averted in [=GiveUpAndSettle.com=]. The guy who got a "Chair full of Domestic Violence For Me" both abuses and gets abused by his wife. It's hilariously tragic on both ends.
* DrivenToSuicide: In his "Message To All Haters" video, all the hate-filled messages from fellow Youtubers (and an ex-girlfriend) drives Ryan to take on his Emo persona and attempt to kill himself in increasingly excessive ways (from simple wrists slashes, to a wooden saw trying to slice his hand off, to a power drill to his temple).
** In "Movies in Minutes - Final Destination", Dominic jumps off the roof of a building because he couldn't handle death trying to claim him. [[spoiler:Subverted, because Dominic ended up fine, knew he would be fine and jumped off for no real reason at all.]]
** In "Dear Ryan - Stop Posting Videos", he jumps off a cliff after reading a mean comment. [[spoiler:Subverted in that he never intended to kill himself and just pressed the upload button at the bottom of the cliff]]
* DrugsAreBad: Parodied in "How to Spot a Pothead".
* [[EvenEvilHasStandards Even Badasses Have Standards]]: Ryan explains that badasses never follow the rules...except for "don't drink and drive" and "always recycle."
* EveryEpisodeEnding: Him saying '''TEEHEE'''.
* EverythingIsRacist: Discussed (along with "everything is sexist", "everything is insensitive to people dying", "everything is slut-shaming", etc.) in "Easily Butthurt People". Same was done with "How to be Politically Correct".
* EvilTwin: In the Dear Ryan: Evil Twin video.
* ExactWords: [=GiveUpAndSettle.com=]'s P.A.P.E.R.B.A.G. system tends to give these kinds of results. A woman who dislikes snakes but wants a "charming" boyfriend gets a snake charmer.
* {{Feghoot}}: A lot of his videos are setups for the worst puns imaginable. [[https://youtu.be/qTENT9gQxCE?t=141 This one may be the ultimate example.]]
* FlatWhat: The buyer in the Big Bouncing Inflatable Green Ball video.
* FoeRomanceSubtext: PlayedForLaughs as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8RQd1csczU "Will You Fight Me?"]] can't tell if it's a Youtube fight or Romantic Drama
* FourthWallGreeting: "Oh hi, didn't see you there."
* FunWithAcronyms: [=GiveUpAndSettle.com=] has the Personality Aptitude Placement Enrollment Research By Algorithmic Groupings system, aka P.A.P.E.R.B.A.G., with the site uses to find a "near perfect match within seconds". As the narrator says this, a hand reaches into a paper bag and picks out two names.
* {{Gasshole}}: The "fatality" in "How to Be Ninja".
* GoshDarnItToHeck: In "Like a Good Boy".
* GratuitousNinja: "How to be Ninja", "Ninja Glare", and "Ninja Melk" stand out, but lots of his other videos have ninjas.
* HandOrObjectUnderwear: Parodied in the Carl's Jr. New Portobello Mushroom burger ad, where he [[MotorMouth quickly names]] all the things the burger can do; "censor-covering" has him with a box containing the burger over each nipple.
* HaveIMentionedIAmHeterosexualToday: The chorus in "Bromance".
* HoYay: {{Invoked|Trope}} in "Word of the Day: Bromance". HilarityEnsues.
* HongKongDub: Parodied in "Daily Life of Ninjahinja".
* HypocriticalHumor: The entirety of the "Subliminal Messages" video.
** Also present in the "A Message to all Haters" video.
** He also has a tendency to not make a video about something before doing it anyway.
* IProduct: The iPod Human and the iNavigator.
* IceCreamKoan: Hanate delves into one in "Skitzo - Reunited".
--> '''Hanate''': "why must we shout? why must we fight? this is how it start, it grow from a little pebble and it grows into a big problem. it doesn't matter if your skin is white or black or or green, it doesn't matter, all that matter is that we work together cuz we unite, united (indecipherable) and I knew...."
--> '''Ryan''': "What the hell are you talking about"
--> '''Hanate''': "I don't know."
** According to "How To Act Like Your Favorite Actors", all you have to do to sound like [[Creator/MatthewMcconaughey Matthew McConaughey]] is to talk like you're in very deep thought all the time so that everything you say, even if it doesn't make sense, sounds very deep and dramatic.
--->'''Ryan (as Matthew [=McConaughey=]):''' Sometimes, you gotta move back to actually move forward. I don't mean that like some fancy metaphor, I mean literally, like when you crash into one of those big ol' green tube things in Mario Kart, you gotta press B and reverse a little, and then you can keep going. And even though I know all that, I still have so many unanswered questions like did they name the tree after the palm or the palm after the tree? Did Delilah ever tell that guy what it was like in New York City? And of course the greatest question of all: what is the meaning of life? ...Cereal. I mean, it don't taste that good, it's not the healthiest cereal around, it's just there, yet life is still a cereal 'cause life is still surreal.
* IncompatibleOrientation: [=GiveUpAndSettle.com=] features a gay couple who confesses they aren't gay and a heterosexual couple who says they are.
* InsaneTrollLogic: A staple in many videos, but most prominent in his videos to discover the truth behind the Illuminati and the Beyonce's Lemonade. Coupled with BatDeduction, both of which result in major examples of a [[spoiler:{{Feghoot}}]]
* JapaneseRanguage: The personal trainers in "How to be Ninja" speak rather inconsistently this way. This carries into Hanate's appearance on Skitzo. Also counts as NWordPrivileges, since both Ryan and Sean are Japanese.
* {{Kiai}}: The first step to being a {{Ninja}} is to make loud, unnecessary sounds when you hit things.
* LampshadedTheObscureReference: In "How to Stay Positive", Ryan makes a reference to ''WesternAnimation/CatDog'', but when nobody knows what it is, her gets upset that nobody watching the video will get the reference.
* TheLancer: WebVideo/KevJumba is this to Ryan, as Kev is somewhat [[TheComicallySerious Comically Serious]] while Ryan is much less serious.
** Ryan's original lancer was Sean who eventually came back and started making vids with Ryan again; promoting him back to the Lancer, albeit with several other guys who're Ryan's roommates.
* ManChild: Discussed in "Immature Guys!".
* ManHug: In "Word of the Day: Bromance".
* ManlyTears: Invoked and demonstrated in "Shed a Tear".
* MesACrowd:
** Multiple "Ryans" appear in quite a few videos.
** His "Pokemon: The Horror Movie" trailer has Nurse Joy briefly doing this trope, likely as a nod to her iconic status as InexplicablyIdenticalIndividuals in the anime.
-->'''Nurse Joys:''' I'm Nurse Joy! I'm Nurse Joy! ''[[HellIsThatNoise I'M NURSE JOY!]]''
* MilestoneBirthdayAngst: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zl9SD3Z7WXA My Midlife Crisis...]] is about Ryan discussing the expectations he had for his thirty-year-old self which wouldn't happen because his birthday was less than four months away.
* MilkingTheGiantCow: Hand motions are part of the first lesson of being Gangster, along with [[ClusterFBomb swearing in every sentence]].
** Master Ching Ching does this in "Ninja Melk" because he's played by Tarynn Nago in a mask.
* MindScrew: The aptly named "Dafuq Did I Just Watch?"
* MookChivalry: {{Defied|Trope}} in "Expectations vs. Reality: Action Movies".
* MotorMouth: Welllooknofurtherthankstothebigbouncinginflatablegreenballyou'llnotevernothaveaballagain!
** What did he just say?
* MrFanservice: Click on one of his song parodies "Like a Good Boy". Read the comments. [[DrinkingGame Drink a glass of water every time you see a comment talking about how hot he is when he takes off his shirt in the video for just a few seconds]]. You will be spending a LONG time in the bathroo.
* MultinationalTeam: YTF: Ryan is Japanese, Kevin is Taiwanese, Victor Kim is Korean, Andrew is Latino, JR is Filipino, D-Trix is part-Filipino and part-Latino, and Chester's half-Filipino.
* MundaneMadeAwesome:
** "Dear Ryan: Extreme".
--->[[UnflinchingWalk SLOW MOTION WALKING]] [[StuffBlowingUp WITH EXPLOSIONS]] AND NINJAS [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gvlofs2W124&t=0m13s !]]
** "Dear Ryan: Epic Meal Time" applies a lot of this too, but as an AffectionateParody of the [[WebVideo/EpicMealTime title channel]].
* MyHovercraftIsFullOfEels: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beZFLT0Ixag The result]] of Ryan and members of Wong Fu Production attempting to be a Korean boy band, with only one of them having a ''very'' limited understanding of Korean.
* NiceGuy: Ryan and Kevin in "Nice Guys" start out as this, become jerks, and then go back after realizing girls don't like jerks.
* NiceGuysFinishLast: In "Nice Guys", Ryan and Kevin decide to take a class on how to not be a NiceGuy under the assumption that their girlfriends would like them more if they were [[AllGirlsWantBadBoys bad boys]]. Throughout the music video, they realize that being a {{jerkass}} just pushes their girlfriends away and they decide to quit the act and make up with their girlfriends, subverting this trope. However, the lyrics are played straight, even during Ryan and Kevin's {{Heel Realization}}s where the lyrics go on about how the singer (likely Chester See who appeared as the teacher in the video) would like to be open to their girlfriend, but dismisses that thought and continues to be a jerk.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Ryan is typicaally the StraightMan in his Skitzo videos, but he's just as weird in "Skitzo News Live".
* NotSoDifferentRemark: {{Discussed|Trope}} in "Off the Pill: Music/RebeccaBlack (Music/{{Friday}})", where Ryan compares Friday to the music that he makes.
* NotThatTheresAnythingWrongWithThat: "Bromance" includes the disclaimer "Not that there's anything wrong with being gay" in the chorus.
* NowHowMuchWouldYouPay: Frequently parodied, with something like "That's a $20 value, but we'll give it to you for, no, not $19.99, no, not $14.99, but $42.99!"
** In [=P90Flex=]: "We'll give you not 4, not 3, not 2, but ONE DVD for the price for two!"
* OddNameOut: A RunningGag in the early "how to" productions.
* OminousMusicBoxTune: Parodied in ''The Last Skitzo!'' where Hanate turns out to be holding a music box and closes it once Steve tells him to stop.
* OnceMoreWithClarity: A bunch of seemingly stand-alone scenes in 5 Steps To Be Badass are suddenly put together at the end into a cohesive narrative.
* TheOner: In "The Ultimate Handshake", Ryan and friends have a single fifty-three second long take to do the ultimate handshake.
* OneHitKill: Multiple videos, like "Dear Ryan - Extreme" and "Dear Ryan - Defeating a Ninja" show him getting defeated in one hit.
** And then he literally one hit-kills a billiards player in "Dear Ryan - Klondike Bar."
* OnlySaneMan: Ryan is this in the Skitzo videos.
* OverlyLongGag: "I like stick, plastic stick, metal stick, tape, stick shaped like tape..."
* OverlyLongName: The Big Bouncing Inflatable Green Ball.
** Also, all of Ryan's personas in the "How to Be X" videos, like Hanate Wakuso Shiseo Tadashite Teriyaki Suzuki Honda Civic.
*** Don't forget R-Dizzle-Fo-Shizzle-Ma-Nizzle-Off-Da-Hizzle-Drizzle the gangster, Elitedarklord_dragonslayer_3.14159 the nerd and, Mystery [[WebVideo/KevJumba Kev]][[WebVideo/ShaneDawson Dawson]] [[WebVideo/{{Smosh}} Smosh]]emG [[Creator/WongFuProductions Fu Productions]] the Website/YouTube celebrity.
*** {{Averted|Trope}} with the emo guy whose name is "Dead.... because I killed it."
* PaymentPlanPitch: Get Hook on Foniks, a fourteen dollar value, for thirteen... easy payments of 14.99!
* LeParkour: Parodied in "Dear Ryan: Extreme".
** Played straight quite awesomely in "Dear Ryan - Klondike Bar".
* PerpetualFrowner: PlayedForLaughs in "How to be Emo".
* PutOnABus: Ryan's sidekick, Sean. In "3,000,000 Subscribers" he made a cameo and revealed the reason he hasn't been around a lot was because of his going to college far away. He also cameoed in "2012: End of the World" and "Bromance". Sean eventually returned as a regular afterwards.
** A RunningGag is that Ryan somehow "replaced" him after intentionally putting him on the bus. (This was a joke, and for some reason many people took it seriously...)
** The rest of Yabo Productions disappeared at some point, including Ryan's ex-girlfriend Tarynn. Sean is the only original member to return.
* PokeThePoodle: In "How to be Gangster," there's a sign in the car that says "Never Drink and Drive". Cut to Ryan driving and drinking...a juice pouch.
* PrecisionFStrike: [[spoiler:I will never curse on this channel, because if I did...that shit would be crazy.]]
* PrettyFlyForAWhiteGuy: "I'm a Chingstah" was meant to be a parody of Asians who try to be Gangsta.
* RapidFireComedy: More like MoreDakka comedy.
* RunningGag: The [[OverlyLongName Big Bouncing Inflatable Green Ball]] shows up a lot.
*** Though not as big as Ryan and Sean remember it in "2012: End of the World."
** Anything to do with lamps. It's even {{lampshade|Hanging}}d in one of the Skitzo videos.
** '''[[EveryEpisodeEnding TEEHEE]]'''
* ScarsAreForever: As of the "Fruit Ninja FAIL" incident, Ryan has a scar on the bridge of his nose.
* SelfDeprecation: Engages in lots of this in "Skitzo: Reunited" where Ryan's other personas make a "How to be Ryan Higa" video.
** The entire point of the Roast Yourself Challenge he gives out (and takes part in).
** [[invoked]] Ryan's self-inflicted NeverLiveItDown jokes about his ill-fated "Fruit Ninja FAIL" incident.
* ShaggyDogStory: "Dear Ryan: Liar".
** "[[Music/{{Friday}} Seven AM]] and I go back to sleep!"
* ShirtlessScene: Ryan shows off his abs in "Like a Good Boy".
** PlayedForLaughs in "Movies in Minutes: Facebook the Movie"
* ShownTheirWork: The majority of any martial arts he does that isn't StylisticSuck is real, since he's a black-belt in judo.
* SmallNameBigEgo: {{Discussed|Trope}} in "Off the Pill - Arrogant People".
* SoundEffectBleep: Parodied in iNavigator:
-->'''Ryan Higa:''' ...And did we mention the iNavigator censors all cursing?\
'''Justin Chon:''' (angrily) Hey motherfu-\
'''iNavigator:''' Beep.\

* StealthPun: One of Ryan's segments is called "Skitzo", wherein he interacts with other character personalities which are also played by himself. Schizophrenia is a mental illness in which people may experience hearing voices or [[TalkingToThemself multiple personalities]], and it's sometimes shortened to "Schizo". [[FridgeBrilliance "Skitzo" and "Schizo" are pronounced the same]].
* StepfordSmiler: [=GiveUpAndSettle.com=] has a lot of the couples pretend to be cheerful as they talk about the less-than-optimal couples they settled for.
* StrawFeminist: Regina is made this in "Off the Pill - Feminist".
* StylisticSuck: Ryan's done very professional looking videos with the likes of Wong Fu Productions... but he still uses the scraggly wigs from his early stuff for every female character he portrays.
* TakeThat:
** "How To Sound Like Your Favorite Artists" is especially more venomous in its [[TakeThat Take Thats]] than most of Ryan's other videos.
** Even when deliberately saying the opposite of everything his girlfriend says, when she says that Series/HowIMetYourMother had the worst ending, Ryan has no choice but to agree.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Daina is the only female member of RHPC (Ryan Higa Productions Company).
* ToiletHumor: "Clenching My Booty".
* {{Troll}}:
** "Dear Ryan - Can you open your eyes?" was made in response to a racist troll comment about his eyes. [[spoiler:Ryan then opens his eyes wide enough to blow up the earth.]]
** "Dear Ryan - Stop Posting Videos!" was also made in response to a troll comment telling him to jump off a cliff and stop posting videos. [[spoiler:Ryan jumped off a cliff (with effects, not in real life) and posted the video anyway.]]
* TrilogyCreep: ''The Last Skitzo!'' was not the last Skitzo episode.
* TrueCompanions: Again, YTF.
* VlogSeries: Most of his videos as of late are all introduced via vlog rants.
* ViewerGenderConfusion: In-universe. In ''The Last Skitzo'', R-Dizzle doesn't realize that Tham [[spoiler: in Hanate's story]] was a girl.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: "Nice Guys" promotes it.
** Parodied and lampshaded in "How To Act Like Your Favorite Actors".
* {{Wangst}}: [[invoked]] Parodied with the song "GTFO My Room".
* WhamEpisode: [[spoiler:''The Last Skitzo''. Hanate reveals his true colors [[BewareTheSillyOnes after killing the rest]] of Ryan's personas as revenge for being used as a punchline in all of the ''Skitzo'' videos. However, he is killed by Rocky, his... [[ADogNamedDog pet rock]]. However, it turns out to be a sketch proposed by the regular Hanate in another regular meeting.]]
* WhamShot: His three million subscriber thank-you video ends with Sean showing up in a video for [[TheBusCameBack the first time in a while]].
* WhyDontYouJustShootHim: The logic used in "How to Be Ninja".
** Lampshaded when Ryan fights his EvilTwin. When evil Ryan beats the real Ryan in a fist fight, he pulls out a gun to finish him off, and the real Ryan asks why he didn't just do that earlier.
* WorldOfPun:
** Hell, 70% of the humor is purely from puns.
** Taken up to eleven in "The Best Joke Ever" where Ryan and D-Trix has a pun battle.
** "Dear Ryan: Extreme" uses every version and play on the word "kick" Ryan could find.
** And then there's possibly the most forced pun yet: Copied Right In-Fridge Mints.
** [[WebComic/OnePunchMan One PUNch Man]].
%%* YouNoTakeCandle: Hanate.
----
!!Examples From Ryan's Movie "Agents of Secret Stuff"
* ActionGirl: Taylor, near the end of the FightScene.
* AllStarCast: All stars from [=YouTube=], anyway, were recruited for acting, special effects, and background music.
* AlmostKiss: [[spoiler: Aden and Taylor]] hear rustling in the bush before they meet lips, but [[SubvertedTrope quickly kiss]] before checking out the noise.
* TheAloner: Taylor is Aden's first and only friend.
* ApatheticTeacher: Mr. Anderson.
* ArtShift: The flashbacks are drawn in rough grayscale cartoon-style.
* BigDamnHeroes: Agent Tracy.
* TheCameo:
** WebVideo/{{Smosh}}: Ian Hecox as a pervy student and Anthony Padilla as a gym class bully.
** Kassem G as Mr. Anderson.
* CassandraTruth: Aden, about his mission.
* ChekhovsGunman: [[spoiler:The SINS agent]] turns out to be [[spoiler: the first person Aden suspected.]]
* ConvenientlyTimedAttackFromBehind: Agent Tracy.
* CoolOldGuy: Agent X.
* EmbarrassingFirstName: Agent Tracy.
-->"It's a man's name!"
* DamselInDistress: Taylor, before [[spoiler:evolving into an ActionGirl]].
* DanceOfRomance: [[spoiler:Aden and Taylor. Supposedly, the two were going to rush to prom in order to make it happen, but upon finding out the doors have been locked, they have no qualms dancing outside, [[MoodWhiplash and then beating up a S.I.N.S. spy.]]]]
* DarkerAndEdgier: The movie shows that Ryan can do some serious acting, too. It still manages to retain his stylistic silliness, though.
* DawsonCasting: [[invoked]] Aden is 17, but Ryan was 20 when the movie was filmed. Taylor is supposedly the same age, but Arden Cho, her actress, was around 25.
** Hell, most of the cast while you're at it. D-Trix was around Arden's age, Ian and Anthony were 23. A bit weird considering that Kassem G (Mr. Anderson) was 26.
* DirtyOldMan: [[spoiler:The A.S.S. leader who turns out to be Taylor's father is very happy about how young her mother was.]]
* FallingInLoveMontage: Aden and Taylor have a lighthearted one where Taylor tries to teach Aden about regular life.
* FishOutOfWater: The entire premise is about a bred-to-kill spy having to function in a high school setting.
* FriendlessBackground: Aden.
* FunWithAcronyms: An A.S.S. must be given their H.O.L.E. ([[HehHehYouSaidX teehee]]), and the enemy of the A.S.S.es are the S.I.N.S.
* HeroStoleMyBike: Aden, in pursuit of [[spoiler:the SINS agent with Taylor]]. Too bad it didn't have training wheels.
* InsistentTerminology: It's not a birdie, it's a [[HehHehYouSaidX "shuttlecock"]]
* LukeIAmYourFather: As a rare moment of [[GenreSavvy genre savviness]], Aden suspects this to be the big reveal. Cue [[LampshadeHanging lampshading]] of the unlikeliness and {{Squick}}, mainly due to the people he believes to be his father are all barely older than he is. [[spoiler:It's played straight as the leader of A.S.S. is Taylor's dad.]]
* ManChild: Aden has to ride a bike with training wheels.
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: Taylor to Aden.
* NoSocialSkills: Aden.
* ObliviousToLove: Aden, when Taylor wants him to ask her to the homecoming dance.
* {{Protectorate}}: Taylor's this to Aden.
* SacrificedBasicSkillForAwesomeTraining: Aden has all the prowess of a superspy, but he can't ride a bike or give high-fives.
* SociallyAwkwardHero: Aden.
* TakeThat: The girls in the locker room describe Aden the same way [[Literature/TheTwilightSaga Bella describes Edward]], coming to the conclusion that Aden is indeed... a unicorn.
* TeenSuperspy: Aden's supposed to be one, but Ryan Higa [[DawsonCasting is already a young adult]].
* TrainingFromHell: Aden claims that his secret agent training was one of these and without reward...[[SubvertedTrope then concedes that on at least one occasion, he got a lollipop as a reward for his hard work.]]
