Emily Jean Stone (born November 6, 1988), known professionally as Emma Stone, is an American actress and singer.

Stone got into community theater at a very young age and was already in youth improv troupes as a pre-teen. She first went to Hollywood in 2004 at the age of 15 after she used a slideshow presentation to convince her parents to let her become an actress instead of finishing high school. She won the part of the new Laurie Partridge on the Creator/VH1 reality show ''In Search For the Next Partridge Family''; however, this updated version of ''Series/ThePartridgeFamily'' never made it past the pilot. She then tried for the part of Claire in ''Series/{{Heroes}}'', but lost out to Creator/HaydenPanettiere. She also appeared in an episode of ''Series/LuckyLouie'' as well as ''Series/Drive2007''.

Stone began appearing in feature films in the late 2000s, debuting in ''Film/{{Superbad}}'' and going on to do supporting roles for ''Film/TheHouseBunny'' and ''Film/TheRocker''. She then co-starred in ''Film/{{Zombieland}}'' and got her first lead role as Olive Pendergast in ''Film/EasyA'', which became her [[StarMakingRole breakout role]] and earned her a UsefulNotes/GoldenGlobe nomination. In 2011, she was featured in the successful films ''Film/CrazyStupidLove'' and ''Film/TheHelp''; she also played ComicBook/GwenStacy in ''Film/TheAmazingSpiderManSeries'' in 2012 and 2014.

In 2015, Stone earned her first [[UsefulNotes/AcademyAward Oscar]] nomination for Best Supporting Actress for ''Film/BirdmanOrTheUnexpectedVirtueOfIgnorance''. She later won the Oscar for Best Actress in 2017 for ''Film/LaLaLand'' -- an award that was the cause of the notorious botched Best Picture presentation later on, as a duplicate card for her win was given to Creator/WarrenBeatty and Creator/FayeDunaway rather than the one for ''Film/{{Moonlight|2016}}'' as Best Picture. She won a second one in 2024 for ''Film/PoorThings''.

Her distinct low-pitched, husky voice is the result of calluses she has on her vocal cords thanks to suffering from colic as an infant, which developed into nodules.

She is married to filmmaker Dave [=McCary=], giving birth to their daughter in 2021. However, neither was officially announced by them as she generally prefers to keep her personal life private.

!!Tropes:
* AuthorAppeal: Inverted -- she has said that she does not wish or intend to star in any fantasy works. This was one of the draws for her 2018 Netflix miniseries ''[[Series/Maniac2018 Maniac]]''; the psychological trippiness allowed Hollywood to actually put her in fantasy settings due to the scenarios created by the characters' heads. She did, however, star in the ScienceFantasy ''Film/PoorThings'' in 2023.
* DyeHard: She only dons her natural blonde in a few roles, such as in ''Birdman'' and ''The Amazing Spider-Man'' movies. Otherwise, expect Emma as a redhead.
* {{Fangirl}}:
** Of the Music/SpiceGirls. [[TheKnightsWhoSaySquee She freaked out]] when she got to talk to Mel B (Scary) and Mel C (Sporty) at different times via video while promoting ''Film/TheAmazingSpiderMan2''. She came very close to freaking out when, during [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqfNH652dH4 an interview]] on ''Series/TheGrahamNortonShow'', Graham implied to her that all five of them were backstage waiting to meet her. They weren't.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycfXhXw0fco She's hooked on K-Pop]].
** She loves ''Series/{{Jeopardy}}'' and says she applies every year to compete on the show... the ''real'' show, not the CelebrityEdition, to which she would certainly be welcomed with open arms (as she, like most of the show's fans, chafes at the softball questions the celebrities are asked).
* InkSuitActor: It's very clear that ComicBook/SpiderGwen was designed after her version of Gwen Stacy.
* ReclusiveArtist: She’s one of the few prominent millennial celebrities who doesn’t have any official social media accounts. She also very rarely talks about her personal life. Her husband has a verified Instagram account and used it to announce their engagement but they’ve never officially confirmed that they got married and he doesn’t post often. She was clearly very pregnant in late 2020 and allegedly gave birth in March of the following year but there’s no official announcement.
* StageName: Took the name Emma because "Emily Stone" was already taken in the Screen Actors Guild. Prefers to be called 'Em' by friends.
* ThoseTwoActors: Has played Creator/RyanGosling's love interest in three different films.
* VocalDissonance: Has a down-to-earth, quirky vibe about her, which makes her raspy, sultry voice a bit jarring.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Stone originally auditioned for Nickelodeon's ''Series/AllThat'' as a child but didn't make the part.
** Stone was approached for a role in ''Film/Ghostbusters2016'', but turned it down due to not wanting to commit to any more franchises after ''Film/TheAmazingSpiderManSeries''.
** She was also offered the role of ComicBook/{{Cheetah}} in ''Film/WonderWoman1984'' but turned it down.
** She was set to reunite with Damien Chazelle for his 2022 film ''Film/{{Babylon|2022}}'' but dropped out due to a scheduling issue which is likely her officially unannounced pregnancy. Additionally, she was meant to portray Creator/ClaraBow.
* WittyBanter: A trademark of hers, in movies.
