One of ''VideoGame/ProjectXZone'''s most notable praises is its adherence to continuity. Not just to ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom'', but to the franchises of which the featured games are apart of. As one Website/GameFAQs user stated, "[[DevelopersForesight (The) developer(s) think(s) of everything.]]"

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Project X Zone]]
* One of Xiaoyu's voice clips off the Japanese website mentions that the worlds coming together is like one huge amusement park. It's been Xiaoyu's dream to build an amusement park since ''VideoGame/{{Tekken}} 3''.
* Also the Jin-Xiaoyu Special Attack is basically sending the enemy to a temple wall so Jin can execute his RapidFireFisticuffs to the enemy like he did to Heihachi in ''Anime/TekkenBloodVengeance''.
* In one of her after-battle quotes, Xiaoyu quotes Lee Chaolan's infamous "excellent" quote, prompting {{No Just No Reaction}}s from Jin and Heihachi.
* When KOS-MOS and T-elos perform their version of [[VideoGame/XenoSaga Shion]]'s Spell Blade Tech Attack as their Multi Attack, the two recites the same poem Shion says. KOS-MOS herself did this originally in ''VideoGame/EndlessFrontier EXCEED''
* X has attacks from previous games (from ''VideoGame/MegaManX1'' up to ''VideoGame/MegaManX4'') such as Storm Tornado, Spin Wheel, Speed Burner, Tornado Fang, Triad Thunder, Frost Tower, Twin Slash, Rising Fire, ''VideoGame/MegaManX3's'' Buster Upgrade Cross Charged shot, and even the [[EasterEgg Hadouken]]! He also gets the [[InfinityPlusOneSword Ultimate Armor]] and its Nova Strike as part of his and Zero's LimitBreak. Meanwhile, Zero uses the [[LagCancel dash cancel]] exploit from ''X4'' in one of his attacks and reverses the direction of his Kuuhazan in one of the attacks, which could be used in his original game to get in more hits and increase Zero's hangtime.
** [[VideoGame/ValkyriaChroniclesIII Imca]] mentions how to pull off a charge shot in crosshairs to X. The funny thing is, crosshairs already exist in ''VideoGame/MegaManX7'' where X can use the crosshair attack.
** One of the post-battle dialogues between X and Zero is X's ending in X4 where if he becomes a Maverick in which Zero cuts him off.
** At one point in the story, the party comes across [[spoiler: the ghost of Iris which causes Zero to have a HeroicBSOD that the party must rescue him from. He even utters his infamous "What am I fighting for?!" line.]]
* Vile/VAVA's moves are taken from ''VideoGame/MegaManMaverickHunterX'', such as his [[WaveMotionGun Rising Specter]].
* In the first countdown trailer, [[VideoGame/{{Tekken}} Jin's]] [[VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom already acquainted with]] [[Franchise/StreetFighter Ryu and Ken]]. And the second shows [[VideoGame/GhostsNGoblins Arthur]] and Valkyrie recognising each other.
** After Jin and Xiaoyu meet [[VideoGame/RivalSchools Batsu]] and the latter two wonder where they were at, Jin outright knows that [[VideoGame/GhostsNGoblins they were at hell]].
** Partnering Valkyrie with Jin and Xiaoyu and Valkyrie already has knowledge of Jin's curse and asks him if he still has it.
* [[VideoGame/ResonanceOfFate Zephyr and Leanne's]] [[LimitBreak Special Attack]] has Zephyr catching Leanne the same way how he saves her in the opening of their game.
* Ryu and Ken's Multi Attack is the [[VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom Double]] [[VideoGame/StreetFighterEX Shouryuken.]] Also, Ryu executes his part of their LimitBreak as what the fandom calls [[VideoGame/StreetFighterIV FADC]] or "[[FunWithAcronyms Focus Attack Dash Cancel]]".
* Ulala's Tension Blaster shares it's name with her All Star Move from ''[[VideoGame/SEGASuperstars Sonic and SEGA All Stars Racing]]'', although it lacked the er on the end. Odd considering that game [[NoExportForYou never came out in Japan]] so they wouldn't get the reference. And [[http://document.nintendo-difference.com/25009/imgs/101.jpg one of her cut-in's]] references [[https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcShGPmwEvPDsvwFhPUBFkGWu8IbkHsS4B02LAXBg-1cGX9RlQdz artwork]] made for the first Space Channel 5.
** The Tension Blaster name actually goes back even further than that. They were the name of Ulala's guns in ''VideoGame/PhantasyStarOnline'' and they could be unlocked as weapons for the player to use. So Japanese players WOULD get the reference after all if they played that.
** Many, '''many''' of her lines are taken from points in her games; the chapter she appears in is titled ''Ulala's Swingin' Report Show'' and she even calls it out like at the start of stages in her games. And during the ending, Ulala signs off with her signature "Spaaaaaaaaaace Channel 5!~" call from the end of levels in her game.
*** One of the characters she summons is [[VideoGame/AlienStorm Scooter]]. When summoned, Scooter runs into the enemy and blows himself up, causing his head to fly off and land on the ground, followed by another headless Scooter running in from offscreen to pick up the head, reattaching it and running away, just like in his [[SmartBomb screen-clearing attack]] in the original game.
* [[VideoGame/ResonanceOfFate Leanne's statue]] shows up at one point. It's ''even an EscortMission!''
* In the epilogue of ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom'', Demitri mentions to Morrigan the reason why there were Q-Bees that showed up in the [[VideoGame/GhostsNGoblins Infernal Village]] is because Jedah's coming back. Well, guess who's here in this game; also qualifies as a BrickJoke considering the former game was out 7 years ago.
** Speaking of which, [[VideoGame/{{Darkstalkers}} Hsien-Ko]] meets up with her StalkerWithACrush Lord Raptor on a ship again.
** Back in ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom'', you get to use both Demitri and Valkyrie at prologue 4 (at the entrance to Astaroth's castle). In this game, you get to use them at prologue 4 (sans Morrigan as she appears at prologue 5, although she was mentioned).
* [[VideoGame/MegaManLegends Tron's support attack]] starts off by firing her Beacon Bomb, then one of the Servbots drives the drill car, followed by Servbots throwing bombs and firing the bazooka. All of these were in ''The Misadventures Of Tron Bonne'' game. Meanwhile, she also retains her Servbot Takeout and Servbot Surprise from ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom'' series.
** The title of Chapter 3 is even called ''The Further Misadventures of Tron Bonne''.
*** And the reasoning why she's traveling? She's looking for parts to build the rocket ship that they could ride to the moon. [[HarsherInHindsight Yeah...]]
* [[VideoGame/GodEaterBurst Soma's and Alisa's]] LimitBreak is a reenactment of the last sequence of the opening of ''God Eater Burst''. Hell, it's even called Over The Clouds... and sadly [[BadExportForYou it's one of the songs which didn't make it.]]
* [[VideoGame/ZombieRevenge Rikiya]] asks [[VideoGame/ResidentEvil Chris and Jill]] if they were afraid of dying, a line Rikiya asked of his teammates at one point partway through his originating game.
* When making their DynamicEntry, [[VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom Reiji and Xiaomu]] are standing on top of a building labeled "Shibuya 601". This is the same building where Kyuju Kyu, the FinalBoss of ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom'' shows itself.
** Chun-Li's the very first person Reiji asks as to what the group's doing at Shibuya, making the same reference that she's the first person (aside from [[VideoGame/{{Xenosaga}} KOS-MOS, Shion, and M.O.M.O]] but they're not present) Reiji and Xiaomu meet in ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom''. That and of the four people who know them, she was the most reliable (one being a former hardcore ShipperOnDeck of Reiji and Saya, another a succubus, and a third a pirate from the future).
** One of the online games Xiaomu plays is apparently [[VideoGame/DotHackR1Games The World.]]
* One of Kaguya's attack animations has her using a fan to control her sword's chakrams, much like how her friend and fellow protagonist Suzuka did with her MiniMecha in ''VideoGame/EndlessFrontier''.
* When Valkyrie meets up with [[VideoGame/ValkyriaChroniclesIII Kurt and Riela]] with that whole [[ActorAllusion seventeen joke]], Kurt makes a reference that the number 17 of the Nameless was practically a slacker (referring to Ilmari Gasotto). Oh, and Kurt brought his candies again and even has them as one of his skills.
** Pair them up [[spoiler: with [[VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom Saya]]]] and she'll state that she wants to be Number 99. While if you pair up Imca with Reiji and Xiaomu, the latter wants to be Number [[Creator/BandaiNamcoEntertainment 7]][[ArcNumber 6]][[GoroawaseNumber 5]].
* [[VideoGame/ResonanceOfFate The Vashyron]] [[MemeticMutation dance]] [[HilarityEnsues is back]]. And so is the [[ACupAngst raisins comment]] although this time, instead of just Leanne, [[VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia Estelle]], [[VideoGame/DotHackR1Games Black Rose]] and [[VideoGame/ValkyriaChroniclesIII Imca]] join in to berate him.
* The "White" Arremer is a nod to an obscure ability of the Red Arremers from the first ''VideoGame/GhostsNGoblins'': they turn white, faster and more aggressive if not killed fast. This is actually the [[VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom3 second time]] this ability is referenced.
* [[VideoGame/SpaceChannel5 Ulala]] mentions how Devilotte's father only gave her 300 yen when she left, just like in ''VideoGame/{{Cyberbots}}''.
* [[VideoGame/ShiningForce Toma]] thinks of [[VideoGame/GhostsNGoblins Arthur]] as a BigBrotherMentor which Cyrille notes that another person was like that for Toma (referring to Gadfort).
* Late in the game [[spoiler: you fight two Astaroths, exactly like in ''VideoGame/GhostsNGoblins''. Although to be fair, Astaroth being split into two was already in ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom'' as punishment for not defeating Arthur back then.]]
* [[VideoGame/RivalSchools Batsu]] mentions that Ryu & Ken's fighting style reminds him of [[VideoGame/RivalSchools Hideo Shimazu]], which is the response Ryu & Ken had when [[VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom they met Hideo before]].
** This also isn't [[VideoGame/TatsunokoVsCapcom the first time]] Batsu does it.
** He also mentions that some of his friends have studied Ken's fighting style via correspondence course[[note]]Specifically referring to Hinata, and may also be referring to Chairperson as well, though what she learned was actually Dan's Saikyou style[[/note]]
* Arthur and Devilot used to be assists before in the first ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom'' - and they reprise their roles here.
* "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVOHQbXD-Cg Erica's Good Morning Dance]]" is back as an [[MusicalAssassin attack animation]] and a skill that heals a party member's status ailments.
* [[VideoGame/{{Xenosaga}} KOS-MOS]] ([[spoiler:[[SoulJar as the soul of Mary Magdalene at this point with all that blue eye shenanigans]]]]), at the ending of the game [[spoiler: tells the people of Earth "Farewell dwellers of Lost Jerusalem."]]
* Lady's Solo Attack includes some of her acrobatics seen in the opening cutscene to chapter 6 of ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry3DantesAwakening'' where it's her against a horde of Hell Prides and Hell Lusts, namely her spinning-flips dual-wielding gun-attack. Add in one of her quotes during her Assist is "Mother, give me strength..."
** In chapter 10, after Jedah enters the stage, Dante notes that the one thing he hates most is someone who talks more than he does, which is the same thing he said when he first meets Jester, also in ''Devil May Cry 3''.
* Doubling with MythologyGag, any time [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlphaGaiden Sanger Zonvolt]] is a Solo unit, the moves he pulls off are derived from the ''Unyo no Tachi'' and ''Daisharin'' techniques, attacks commonly used by his Dygenguard HumongousMecha from ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars''. [[spoiler:As a Rival Character, Sanger uses the ''Ichimonji Giri'', the SignatureMove of [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Wodan Ymir and his Thrudgelmir]], Sanger's combat rival in the ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration'' sequel, who is his AlternateUniverse counterpart and a stand-in for Sanger's debut [=SRW=] role as TheDragon in ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden]]''. Note that Sanger's use of ''Ichimonji Giri'' in ''Alpha Gaiden'' was previously called ''Inazuma Juuryoku Otoshi'']].
** Take notice of where Sanger makes his appearance in this game: he arrives in the ''Schafen Celeste'', [[LateArrivalSpoiler the same place where]] [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAdvance Axel Almer]] did in ''[[VideoGame/EndlessFrontier Super Robot Wars OG Saga: Endless Frontier EXCEED]]''. Speaking of which, his new CatchPhrase in ''Project X Zone'' "[[WhoYouGonnaCall Did you call for me!?]]" is pulled from the [[TheAnimeOfTheGame final episode]] of ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration The Inspector]]''.
** Additionally, Sanger makes a quip in the ''Schafen Celeste'' regarding "This is the Endless Frontier ''he'' was talking about". The only characters to have told Sanger any information about the Endless Frontier are Axel or [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Kouta Azuma]], since they were in ''Endless Frontier EXCEED''. However, since Kouta is keeping quiet about his adventures, this makes Axel the one Sanger's referring to, as he's a part of the ''Kurogane'' battleship crew at the end of the most recent ''Original Generation'' installment, of which Sanger is also a member.
** Pair Sanger with KOS-MOS and T-elos and he will drop the name of the [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAdvance Shadow-Mirror]] organization, accusing the two to be a part of that world. T-elos has no idea what the Shadow-Mirror is, while KOS-MOS assures Sanger they are not, since she knows of the organization and their [[ArtificialHuman W-Numbers]] from both ''Endless Frontier'' games.
** Pair Sanger with Kurt and Riela and he thinks the [[ArmyOfThievesAndWhores Nameless]] and himself aren't so different from each other, a reference to him and the ''Kurogane'' crew protecting the Earth from the shadows because they're still technically traitors to the [[TheFederation Earth Federation]], as its members once sided with [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Bian Zoldark and the Divine Crusaders insurrectionists]].
** He names the weapon he obtains from Kaguya releasing its spirit as the Reishiki Zankantou, the same as the Grungust Reishiki he piloted in ''Original Generation 1'' before he switches.
** Pairing him up with Jin and Xiaoyu and Sanger laments at Jin's family fighting against one another as it reminds him of the Branstein family fighting against each other before Rai and Elzam made up.
** When both Kaguya and Haken introduce themselves, he starts wondering if there's a connection between the names Browning and Nanbu.
* If Kurt and Riela are paired with Bruno, the latter has bad memories about being led by soldiers (since in his game, his superiors were killed by spies).
* Pair up Valkyrie with Reiji and Xiaomu and both Valkyrie and Xiaomu make references in a game when the two of them were together called ''Brave Company'', in which Reiji (who didn't show up) has no idea what they're saying.
* The Rainbow Bridge Valkyrie put up in ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom'' gets referenced again when [[VideoGame/EndlessFrontier Kaguya]] powers up the treasure at Kagura Amahara to erect one. Over to where Valkyrie is at.
** Speaking of Kaguya, Saya's cow flunky, Dokugozu, still has a crush on her.
* Pair up [[VideoGame/EndlessFrontier Haken and Kaguya]] with Ulala and Kaguya will mention Neige and Suzuka while Haken will mention Aschen and Aledy.
* Some of [[VideoGame/ResonanceOfFate Vashyron's lines]] are directly lifted from his game. Bonus points for giving out those lines with an ActorAllusion as he delivers two famous lines [[MemeticMutation while he was dancing]] [[Creator/AiOrikasa to both]] [[VideoGame/SakuraWars Aya-me]] and [[VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom Saya]] in reference to Countess Barbarella.
* Chun-Li and the others who show up in Shibuya still refers to the city as a closed city (which also includes the Akihabara district) due to the problems with dimensional rifts perpetrated by Ouma agents because Shinra hasn't resolved it yet.
* [[VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia Yuri]] remarks how nothing ever good happened to him in a desert, referring to an event in his game where [[spoiler: he and his party passed out in one and were almost killed before being mysteriously saved.]]
* As Ichiro reveals just ''how'' they were going to get onto [[spoiler:[[VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia The Tarqaron]]]], Ken makes a comment in that he's glad that the ride this time was enclosed. This refers back to ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom'' where the characters had to use catapults in order to get from one airship to another in a late chapter - without any actual safety gear while both airships were in flight. Heihachi simply laughs at the memory of it.
* While on board [[spoiler:[[VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia the Tarqaron]]]] [[VideoGame/DevilMayCry Dante]] remarks how he and towers have a bad history. Lady, in later chapter, also have the same feelings and warning to keep away from the edges.
* Pair Dante and Demitri with Juri to hear her not wanting Demitri to sink his stinky breath on her. While he complains Dante remarks that [[VideoGame/DevilMayCry3DantesAwakening at least she didn't try to sink a bullet in his head the first time her met her.]]
* Put Saya with Yuri and Estelle and the vixen will bring say how Estelle isn't an "enchanted belle" yet, [[ACupAngst much to Estelle's chagrin]], to which Yuri brings up how that's a title Estelle can acquire when she gets her outfit during the seduction incident.
** Likewise, if you pair them up with Neneko, she tells Estelle to transform into another outfit, causing her to reply that she'll turn into a Massage Therapist, yet another one of her costume titles. Again, Yuri isn't pleased and wishes she'd actually pick one with some battle ability.
* Estelle's [[ACupAngst initial reaction]] to Kaguya isn't the first time, right [[VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia Judith]]?
* Jill tells Chris to shut up when he tells Jill that she's almost a Jill sandwich[[note]]The line was not said, but Jill knows what he's about to say[[/note]], which is a line said by Barry in the first Resident Evil after the team gets into the abandoned mansion at the Arklay Mountains and Jill barely manages to avoid being squashed by a DescendingCeiling trap.
** The attack moves used by Chris and Jill are taken from Marvel vs Capcom 2 and 3, and Resident Evil: 5 and Revelations.
** Jill's Database entry refers to her as the [[MemeticMutation Master of Unlocking]], a title given to her by Barry in the first Resident Evil.
* When paired with [[VideoGame/VirtuaFighter Akira and Pai]], [[VideoGame/RivalSchools Batsu]] tells Akira about that other Akira from Gedo High who also uses Bajiquan style martial arts.
* Some characters may ask [[VideoGame/{{Tekken}} Alisa]] if she has any [[{{Bowdlerize}} laser blades]]. She will insist that she only has the chainsaws.
* Xiaomu complaining that there are only staircases in [[spoiler: [[VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia the Tarqaron]]]] is a CallBack to the same complaint she had in ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom'' when the party had to climb up ''VideoGame/TheTowerOfDruaga''. Same with Ryu's comment that climbing up the tower is a good way to exercise.
* Dante mentions that Valkyrie is alone in his office without her companions traveling with her. They consist of Clino Sandra and Sabine, two characters in the Valkyrie no Bōken series who were playable in ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom''.
* In one of Hsien-ko's battle quotes, she says that it's not the time to be saying "aiya" or "xie xie" anymore; which is the exact same thing she told Fong Ling in ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom'' when enemies were attacking the Spencer Lane.
** Also in that same pre-battle conversation, [[VideoGame/DeadRising Frank]] says that it's also not the time to say [[GratuitousEnglish "good" or "fantastic!"]] which are quotes he uses in VideoGame/DeadRising depending on how good the photos you take are.
** Hsien-ko's presence on the Bermuda is also a continuity reference since she starts out fighting on the Spencer Lane's outer deck in ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom''.
* KOS-MOS sometimes has that VerbalTic ...nya. This bug originated from ''VideoGame/{{Xenosaga}} Freaks'' during her rampage as a CatGirl ({{it makes sense in context}}) and apparently it hasn't been fixed.
* There are [[RuleOfThree three moments in the game]] when the ''VideoGame/SakuraWars'' trust increase chime plays. First is in Ch. 9 when Ogami compliments Erica for her contributions to the Imperial Assault Force. The second moment is in Ch. 25 when Ogami and Sakura save the [[VideoGame/EndlessFrontier Fujisakura]] from being overflowed with spiritual energy and Ogami assures Kaguya that the tree will not die. The third moment is during the epilogue when Ogami thanks [[Franchise/DotHack Aura]] for helping them get back to their homeworlds. [[RunningGag Every time this happens,]] Sakura shows her ClingyJealousGirl tendencies.
* Paring anyone whose a princess with [[KnightInShiningArmor Flynn]] will result in Flynn making a quick little speech about how he will be a knight and protect them, something that he both does in game, and in the various spinoff titles in the Tales of franchise.
* When Yuri meets Sanger, Sanger challenges him to a fight making Yuri sarcastically comment that "Is it a rule that everyone with a big sword has to be like this?" which reflects people he's met like Clint.
** Also when Estelle comments that they should talk this out, Yuri says he is, which references how he and Flynn dealt with their differences.
* When Yuri discusses Vile, he compares him to Zagi. Fittingly enough, in the second game, the two are shown to bond almost immediately.
* When [[VideoGame/ShiningForceEXA Toma and Cyrille]] do their LimitBreak, they do their SwordPointing animation towards each other. [[spoiler:It's the same pose they do when they have to fight one another.]]

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Project X Zone 2]]
* The subtitle "Brave New World" references to ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom'''s [[https://youtu.be/NPfkyEoV7OU opening song]]. Talk about a CallBack. And with Reiji and Xiaomu being positioned as the main protagonists again...
* Dante and Vergil's [[https://youtu.be/rtuu4B4EQ1w?t=4m25s Limit Break]] ends with them doing the same cross-gun position attack that they did to [[spoiler:Arkham]] at the end of that boss fight in ''[=DMC3=]'', closing with - what else - "[[CatchPhrase Jackpot]]".
* Sega's official Japanese Twitter account tweeted a screenshot of [[https://twitter.com/SEGA_OFFICIAL/status/641838546962124801 a scene]] that refers to the [[https://youtu.be/gc3AK8k90xw?t=6m13s commercial]] where Advertising/SegataSanshiro plays with [[VideoGame/SakuraWars Sakura]] in a grove of cherry blossoms.
* In X and Zero's new Special Attack, Zero can be seen doing the infamous Sougenmu + Raikousen loop/"Lightning Loop" from ''Ultimate VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom3''.
** Furthermore, Dante and Vergil's MAP attack uses a modified version of Dante's Level 3 hyper combo from the same game, "Devil Must Die". Dante also [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] Vergil's GameBreaker HighTierScrappy status when paired with Felicia.
** Morrigan joins in on the ShoutOut to ''Marvel vs. Capcom 3'', as her MAP attack with Demitri starts with her activating Astral Vision before repeatedly pummeling the enemy with Soul Fists on both sides - a popular tactic for Morrigan in said game.
* How [[VideoGame/FireEmblemAwakening Chrom and Lucina]] end their LimitBreak is the same as in the box art cover for the game, only this time Lucina doesn't have her mask.
* Jill wraps herself in flames during her and Chris's Special Attack, similar to her Charging S.T.A.R.S. attack from ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom2''. She said to Chris in the first game when he said he should train martial arts more that "As long as you don't wrap yourself in flames."
* When the Nemesis shows up what are the first words out of its mouth? B.S.A.A.
* Zephyr and Vashyron recreate their fight scene from the opening of ''VideoGame/ResonanceOfFate'' for their special attack, except modified to [[Wrestling/DwayneJohnson layeth the smackdown]] on their target. It ends with Vashyron clotheslining the enemy into a pillar, shoving a pistol in their mouth, and firing, similar to how he finished Zephyr off. Unlike before, [[CoupDeGrace they show Vashyron actually shooting.]]
* Ryu and Ken's new Special Attack has them both firing a Shinku Hadouken. The only time Ken has be able to perform the move was as a special CombinationAttack with Ryu in VideoGame/MarvelSuperHeroesVsStreetFighter.
** Technically, Ken has been able to that in ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom'' as the "Hadou Buster".
* Yuri complains that he's been running into weird old men lately, just like what happened with him meeting Sanger in the first game. And now, he gets to run in with Segata Sanshiro, who he fights anyway. Though this time, he finally gets to defeat him.
* When the new [[spoiler:Akatana]] enemies are introduced and half the [=PCs=] take offense to their... cheerfulness and GratuitousEnglish in the first game, Saya says that their personalities is based off of a member from the North American branch of Ouma. Enter new boss unit Sheath of said American branch in chapter 1.
* Part of Oogami and Erica's LimitBreak has Oogami using Glycine Bleumer's halberd in the opening, frame by frame. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOOUuCFScHI&t=0m38s That also includes the stop motion movement.]]
** Pair up Valkyrie with Ogami and Erica and Valkyrie will [[ActorAllusion drop her voice so menacingly low]] just like [[VideoGame/SakuraWars Lobelia Carlini]].
* When the party needs to know where to look for Estelle, [[Characters/ProjectXZone Chizuru]] mentions that a certain someone helps them locate where she is. When the party boards the Dragonturtle Mark 1, Yuri looks behind and in his mind, thanks [[VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia Duke Pantarei]] for the information.
* [[VideoGame/{{Strider}} Hiryu's]] plan to get away from the exploding Balrog is the same suggestion he did in ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom'': [[CrazyEnoughToWork launch themselves using the catapult]]. Everyone who had to do it in that game just plain gave up arguing and decided to do it, leaving the newcomers very confused and utterly baffled about that idea. Chun-Li even comments that it's a lot easier to do since the other ship will pull in people. The last time they did it, they had none of that.
* Chun-Li first meets Reiji and Xiaomu again for the third time at Shibuya. Curiously enough, the three don't lampshade it.
* In ''Namco X Capcom'', Ken had to rescue Ryu, who at the time was under the influence of the Satsui no Hadou, the same power that fully consumed Akuma. He snaps him out of it with a Shin Shoryuken. Fast forward to this game, and Ken is the brainwashed one this time, put under the influence of Bison's Psycho Power. Ryu returns the favor by absorbing all the hits of Ken's Guren Senpuukyaku with a Red Focus Attack and countering with a Shin Shoryuken of his own, shattering Bison's influence on not just Ken, but Estelle as well.
* How the game ends [[spoiler: is the same as in ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom'': at [[VideoGame/{{Darkstalkers}} Demitri's balcony]] where both Reiji and Xiaomu kiss in the end, underneath the full moon. In fact, the background image is the same.]]
* Saya name drops the 101 Embryo Project at the end of ''VideoGame/EndlessFrontier EXCEED'' but no one knew what it was all about except for Ouma. You get to fight said project, [[spoiler:Byaku Shin]], in this game.
* Basically every single attack Segata does in his assist attack and all of his passive skills and buffs refer to [[Advertising/SegataSanshiro his commercials]] one way or another.
* When Xiaomu makes her initial appearance in the first tutorial level of the game, she's singing "nano da, nano da" to herself, a phrase that Neneko from the previous game kept using all the time.
* If paired with X and Zero, Leon asks if Maverick Hunters don't use guns. Zero says that he wouldn't be surprised if [[VideoGame/MegaManX7 a gun-wielding Hunter showed up]]. Pai also brings this up if paired with them, saying that [[ActorAllusion she might join the Hunters if she learned to use a gun.]]
* When jumping on a catapult, Kiryu starts shouting randomly. Majima chalks this up as a [[Film/{{Yakuza}} Revelation]], which Kiryu will eventually blog about.
* In ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom'', Kazuya, as his Devil form, was last seen at Makai after his fight wtih Jin outside the Balrog airship. The first time Kazuya appears in ''Brave New World'' is at Makai and finally is able to fully control his Devil powers.
* When Heihachi is paired with Chris and Jill, he claims he's trying to make a drug that will turn one's hair blonde. [[VideoGame/ResidentEvil5 Jill thinks it's a ridiculous idea.]]
* While [[VideoGame/ResonanceOfFate Vashyron]] was having his {{Wangst}} moment while being locked up in a capsule with nothing but men, he name drops his best friend Victor, claiming that he's about to die and wants to see him again.
* Xiaoyu mentions to Felicia that she's more humanlike than King, whom she was partnered with back in ''VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom''.
** Segata Sanshiro's special dialog with Xiaoyu and Chun Li nods back to her ''Tekken 3'' ending, where Heihachi seemingly built her amusement park, only to reveal it was based on him instead. Here, Sanshiro offers to help and turn her park into "Sanshiro Land", and Chun Li says it sounds like her dream's about to get hijacked again.
