''Ninja High School'' is a [[{{Animesque}} manga-inspired]] comic book series created, written, and illustrated by Ben Dunn, and currently published by Creator/AntarcticPress. While it was originally intended as a parodic mini-series, the comic became so popular that it became a full series, currently totalling over 160 issues and many miniseries and special issues. The annual specials ''Ninja High School Yearbook'' and ''Ninja High School Swimsuit Edition'' [[OfficialFanSubmittedContent are entirely composed of art and stories created and contributed by fans]].

The story centers on [[UnluckyEverydude Jeremy Feeple]], [[OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent a student at Quagmire High]], who soon encounters a beautiful female [[{{NINJA}} ninja]] named Itchy Koo (real name Ichikun Ichinohei) and an AlienPrincess named Asrial -- [[ArrangedMarriage who have both been ordered to marry him]]. The earlier stories focus on [[UnwantedHarem the girls' comedic attempts to marry this seemingly plain, ordinary high school boy]]. As the story progressed, backstories were given to the core characters, and an extensive supporting cast developed. While early stories focused mainly on slapstick, [[CerebusSyndrome later story arcs have become more serious]], delving into [[WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForKids murder]], {{drugs|AreBad}}, and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking homosexuality]].

The series contains {{Lawyer Friendly Cameo}}s and {{Captain Ersatz}}es of characters from other media, usually but not always Japanese; these included ''Franchise/KamenRider'', ''Franchise/PowerRangers[=/=]Franchise/SuperSentai'', ''Franchise/HarryPotter'', ''ComicBook/{{Superman}}'', ''Franchise/ThePowerpuffGirls'', ''Franchise/{{Terminator}}'', ''VideoGame/NinjaGaiden'', ''Franchise/{{Transformers}}'', ''Anime/NadiaTheSecretOfBlueWater'', ''Manga/UruseiYatsura'' the ''Franchise/{{Gundam}}'' series and ''especially'' ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'' (seriously looking at the early chapters, you'd be forgiven for thinking this whole series was an out and out parody of it).

''Ninja High School v2'' was an attempted SpinOff set after a TimeSkip, revolving around Jeremy's thrill-seeking younger brother Ricky; it originally ran alongside the original series, but the new storyline was brought back into the main title though Ricky was now the main character.

For those that wanna follow along it goes like this:
* Original series (Vol 1-9). Ran for 100 issues. 1987 to November, 2002 (Yes, ''[[LongRunner fifteen years]]''). The first bulk is mostly that of Jeremy's adventures with a few stories focused on side characters. Later on most of the stories focused on Ricky and his own entourage of girls (In this case Lendo's step-sister Yumei, Superhero Heidi, and a Salusian Princess with a purchased title, Solora). This is considered Vol 2 of the series. There is also the mini series "Quagmire USA".
* Hawaiian series (#101-129, December, 2002 - June, 2005): Focuses on supporting character, Yumei, as she goes to Hawaii under the request of a family member and has her own adventures.
* Shidoshi series (#130-175, August, 2005-August, 2009) : Continuation of vol 2, something of a reboot of the series to distinguish it from the original. The story now focuses entirely on Ricky and a new cast of characters as they come into conflict with a deadly rival ninja clan.
* Volume Three: An attempt at a revival series in June 2014 which saw a new alien race calling themselves the "Kuroni" have possessed the people of Quagmire and plan to enslave all of Earth. Anne Feeple and Prof Steamhead are the only two unaffected and are forced to jump to an alternate dimension to find means to defeat them. Thus setting this series in a new world. However the series slipped back into a hiatus after the 176 issue was released with only "Super Ninja High School", a one-off that had the characters dealing with [[{{Expy}} expies]] of video game characters, release. After ''six years'', the comic finally resumed.

Battlefield Press has launched a roleplaying game for the series, both in a proprietary D6 and the TabletopGame/SavageWorlds system.

The series has been uploaded to ''Platform/{{Webtoon}}'', including both the original run, Volume 2, ''Shidoshi'', ''Quagmire USA'' and ''Volume 3'' (Though no ''Hawaii'' series for some reason) as well as some of the crossovers with ''ComicBook/GoldDigger''. 35!!Tropes:

* TheAhnold: Hotaro no Kenterminator, a dual homage to ''Anime/FistOfTheNorthStar'' and Schwarzenegger's role in ''Film/TheTerminator''. In a nod to the RealLife FriendlyRivalry between the two, he has a bit of a rival in Arnie (who, despite the name, is a straight-up homage to Sylvester Stallone).
* AlmightyJanitor: Seen in the Hawaii issues; while he wasn't the best fighter, he was stronger and more skilled than the main character for awhile.
* AlternateUniverse:
** ''Quagmire USA''" and ''Shidoshi'' seem to be set in alternative universes. Whilst Shidoshi makes reference to events from Volume 2 and Hawaii, suggesting it is the canonical continuation from those arcs, Quagmire USA seems to be set in an alternative universe where those arcs never happened. [[spoiler:In particular, the mini-series opens with Ricky still TrappedInAnotherWorld after the events of Volume 2, where he has been for 9 years, and there is no appearance of Kassy and Lexus' little sister. This is further established when the teenage Kassy meets Ricky and is able to use the fact he recognizes her as proof that he's a fake, stating that she and Ricky have never met due to the fact Ricky slipped into this alternate dimension before her parents married and brought her to Earth.]]
** Vol 3 is looking to be set here using a cast of all new characters.
* {{Animesque}}: Dunn is an admitted anime and manga addict. In fact he's know as the "Grandfather of American Manga" due to being one of the earliest artists to use the style in U.S long before manga became a normal commodity outside Japan.
* ArrangedMarriage: The reason that Asrial and Ichi were initially after Jeremy.
* {{Art Evolution}}: Not surprising since the series started in 1987. The first artwork was mostly that of a usual American comic book. Then evolved into more manga like standards, likely Ben experimenting with his art and sticking with the latter style.
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: Akaru, Jeremy managed to use it as a weakness during their first meeting.
* BeastMan: Salusians' natural form is probably best described as "anthropomorphic skunk." Their muzzle is less pronounced than an actual skunk's muzzle, and they have hands and platigrade feet, but they otherwise greatly resemble human-sized striped skunks. In a bit of BizarreSexualDimorphism, only female Salusians have tails.
* {{Because Destiny Says So}}: Anna, Jeremy and Ricky's mother, springs this on Jeremy after Ichi and Astral come into his life. Ironic in that years down the line, Ricky would [[ScrewDestiny go against this saying]].
** In fact this becomes a major theme in the second half of the series and fuels the conflict with the Elder Stars who are so rooted in their traditions that the protagonists are forced to go against them if they wish to run their own lives. In fact it was because of this that the rival ninja clan, Shidoshi, were created in the first place.
* BettyAndVeronica: Asrial to Betty and Ichi to Veronica. I mean they even got the same hair color!
* BigBad: The Shidoshi during the Ricky era of the series.
* BittersweetEnding:
** Hawaiian Arc: [[spoiler: For the former, Tetsuo, being the brat he is, tricks Yumei into marrying a Ricky-bot rather then her true love despite doing all she can defeat him and it's legally binding so she can't get out of it unless he gives the say so. Though later in Shidoshi, after Tetsuo undergoes major CharacterDevelopment, he gives her the remote to self-destruct the bot and annul the marriage. So bit of a slow burn for the happy ending (though we never see if Yumei actually does it).]]
** Shidoshi Arc: [[spoiler: Yuudai dies without having his final battle with Ricky who informs him the original Red Ninja whom Yuudai original fought against is still alive. Though Ricky at the least gives him an honorable funeral. Ricky's group take on the Elder Stars and have to settle for just bankrupting them then defeating them in combat, though do get the victory of not allowing them to claim the Red Ninja title (long story short, a lot of family complications as Anna is still technically part of the ninja clan the Elder Stars come from and by right still holds the title. Since she's in another world, that title lands on Ricky and the Stars have to defeat him to reclaim it regardless if the Elder Stars don't consider them a true ninja clan). Tetsuo can't marry his true love, Nanashi, due to a arrange marriage he couldn't get out of. So he puts on a façade of going back to his overly ambitious ways to chase her off. However we see he still pines for her despite having everything he wants, but is content that she's safe, sets up a bank account for her to use in three months and ultimately erasing all traces of her so the Elder Stars can't go after her anymore. After some time passes and the protagonists have grown up, Ricky finds the original Red Ninja and engages in combat with him to both dismantle the Elder Stars and their corrupt ninja governing, as well as defeat him on Yuudai's behalf. The story ending just as they rush each other.]]
* {{Blood Knight}}: Many characters in the series. Destructo in the original series, and more recently, Yuudai.
* BoisterousBruiser: Arnie the 7 foot tall gun-toting jock, who also shows elements of being a GeniusBruiser with his weapon-building expertise and debates with Professor Steamhead on science matters.
* BroughtDownToBadass: [[spoiler:CatFolk superhero Tygarr loses the ForcedTransformation curse that grants him his superpowers right when Yuudai conquers Quagmire. Despite this, he proves to be a BadassNormal and continues to fight against the insane ninja tyrant, behavior that causes Heidi Yfory to fall in love with him over the eight years they spend trapped in Quagmire together.]]
* TheBusCameBack: Side characters often disappear for extended periods of time in this series, only to return much later. [[spoiler:For example, Leonard and Gregory, introduced early into Volume 2, subsequently return late in Shidoshi in the storyline "Blasting Off Again".]]
* CaptainErsatz: Oh so many, is it any wonder this and ComicBook/GoldDigger get along so well?
** One description of the artist's works, and characters. If it's in Ninja High School, it's [[{{Pun}} Ben Dunn]].
* CatFolk: A number of different half-human half-cat characters show up over the course of the series, usually in a variant of the CatGirl body-style.
** Salusians in their human transmogrified forms look like the rare "ears but no tail" strain of catgirl, with Asrial and Solora in particular rocking this look in volumes 1 and 2.
** In the issue "Deathperception", Aloysious the {{familiar}} gains a humanoid body and face with feline paws, ears, fur and tail after he TookALevelInBadass during his offscreen adventures with Lendo.
** Tygarr, a teen superhero introduced in the Volume 2 issue "VR Bloopers", is a once-normal boy named Steve Gloss, who was [[ForcedTransformation transformed into a humanoid tiger]] by a vengeful god for tormenting the tigers at a local zoo. His only hope to become human is by completing 1,000 good deeds. [[spoiler:Which becomes problematic when he completes his 1000th deed and is restored to normal during the events of the Shidoshi continuity, right when his powers would come in handy.]]
** Puma Priss is a leopard-patterned CatGirl and teen supervillain, effectively Tygarr's villainous counterpart on the team Chaos Factor.
** In the volume 2 issue "Textbooks and Broomsticks", Ricky is transformed into a humanoid tiger, similarly to Tygarr, and this form will make a few sporadic reappearances in later canon.
** Meppy from the Shidoshi stories is a member of a race of Amazon {{Catgirl}}s who was stranded on Earth during UsefulNotes/WorldWarII. She fought the Nazis and is now a DrillSergeantNasty gym/health teacher at Quahog High.
* CatchPhrase: "The world shall be saved by ''STEAM!!''"
** MadLibsCatchPhrase: Even more frequent are references to Salusians of imperial birth ("It's simple for...", "Your strength is no match for...", and so on). When Leanna shows up, she has a variation regarding a Zardonian of royal birth.
* CerebusRetcon: The Shidoshi arc retcons a number of things from Volume 1 and Volume 2 in a darker light. [[spoiler:Most prominently, Anna quitting the ninja life to marry Bob actually brought her huge family dishonor, and in fact she's been forced to carry out missions on behalf of the Five Elder Stars because of that, which includes assassinating an entire family down to the last child.]]
* CerebusSyndrome: Started off as a fairly slapstick action adventure series. Then later story arcs got much more serious. The Ricky Feeple era is especially notable for this.
* CityOfAdventure: Quagmire
* ClipArtAnimation: A 1995 collection CD did this to the first story arc. It was... controversial.
* CuteWitch: Mimi
* DaddysLittleVillain: Zardon princess Leanna
* TheDarkSide: Mimi
** DrunkOnTheDarkSide
* DeconstructorFleet
* DefrostingIceQueen:
** Ichi initially as she only wanted marry Jeremy to become leader of her ninja clan. But the more she comes to know Jeremy the more she seem genuinely willing to marry him. [[spoiler: Ultimately it doesn't happen and she marries Lendo.]]
** Soloria likewise when her family dump her on Earth. She starts off as a major RoyalBrat and barely even tries to get along with the others. She mellows out over the course of the series after some interactions and adventures. By the time she has to go, she's sadden to be leaving her new friends.
* DisappearedDad: Jeremy's father, Bob Feeple, vanished when Jeremy was 6, reportedly poisoned by his own rat-killing equipment in a terrible accident. Jeremy subsequently learns that his dad has actually been TrappedInAnotherWorld called "Dimension X" the whole time -- for added irony, it's a world of RatMen, and Bob has become its king, because he saved them from being conquered by hordes of terrible humanoid roaches. Despite dearly wishing to see his family again, Bob is stuck there because the chemicals in his system fatally disrupt the rats' portal technology, and even if that weren't a problem, dimensional travel is normally fatal for non-magical adults.
* {{Disproportionate Retribution}}: Yuudai was a huge victim of this thanks to the Elder Stars' displeasure at the growing closeness between him and Empress Meisho.
* DullSurprise: Whenever a shot of random locals is shown reacting to the latest weirdness Jeremy and crew are up to, the reaction is generally to look up and say "That wasn't there yesterday."
* {{Expy}}
* {{Fanservice}}: Many and varied, ranging from panty shots to occasional nudity. The Swimsuit Special has this as its defining feature.
* FirstLawOfGenderBending: Justified with Leonard and Gregory; they lost their magical powers when they were genderbent, and the warlock Kabal they belonged to refuses to change them back as punishment for their failures.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Many, many seemingly minor or innocuous events or comments come back in a big way later in the story.
** In the Shidoshi arc, during the "Devotion" story, Arthur mentions the strange magic washing over Quagmire has turned Chrissy and other robots into humans. [[spoiler:This sets things up for TheReveal of the second Ricky Feeple actually being Yuudai's last remaining Rickybot, transmogrified but unfortunately still loyal.]]
* FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire: Count Boscoe, who is not only a VegetarianVampire but also a generally reasonable, kindly and thoughtful man.
* FriendlyRivalry: Professors Steamhead and Beanhead - each one is convinced that his specialty (steam and beans respectively, of course) is superior to the other, and the two do have a habit of bickering over this. That said, the two work together remarkably well (and have since World War II), and for all the superscience each has at their fingertips, the worst the two get into are occasional put-downs of the other's discipline.
* GenderBender: Warlocks Leonard and Gregory find themselves turned into girls when they make the mistake of channeling magic through Neptonite in Volume 2. Ironically, as Warlocks are [[MagicAIsMagicA strictly defined as magical men]], being gender-bent strips them of their magic permanently unless they can be changed back.
* GenerationXerox: Jeremy and post-timeskip Ricky, although the writers play with this.
* GentleGiant: Arnie.
* GoldDigger: Ichi's original reason for pursuing Jeremy was because it would result in her gaining leadership of her ninja clan.
** Fred Perry's ''ComicBook/GoldDigger'' also appears -- see SharedUniverse, below.
* HappilyAdopted: Anna Feeple (previously Anna Ichinohei), who was brought into the Ichinohei clan after her mother was killed while helping Kudasai during the second World War. In fact, one of the conditions that Kudasai (her adopted father) put on granting permission for her to marry Bob Feeple was that their first-born son would marry the first-born daughter of Kudasai's biological son, so that Anna could finally have a blood relation to the Ichinohei clan.
* HeirToTheDojo: Ichi again and Ricky post second Timeskip.
* {{Heroic Sacrifice}}: Several throughout the series.
* HerrDoktor: Doctors Steamhead and Hossenfeffer. Later {{justified}} as a flashback shows both in pre-World War II Germany, as the Nazis were rising in power (Hossenfeffer [[PuttingOnTheReich joined the Nazis]]; Steamheim, as he was known then, tried to remain apolitical but was encouraged to leave, later joining the Allies).
* HighlyVisibleNinja: Nearly every ninja in the series.
* HotLibrarian: Mimi Masters, Mita Celande.
* {{I Choose To Stay}}: Anna when she is finally reunited with her husband in the mouse world. One can't blame her considering how long they've been apart.
* HubcapHovercraft: Princess Asrial's restored (and highly modified with alien tech) 1962 Chevy Corvette--beating [[Series/AgentsOfSHIELD Lola]] by almost two decades!
* IKnowYouAreInThereSomewhereFight: When Jeremy is first brainwashed by Lendo in issue 3, Ichi uses a ninja spell to break into his subconscious and undo the mind control. Also appears later in the Copier issue.
-->"Please. You're not this person. You're not this person."
* IntelligentGerbil: Several alien species in the series take the form of [[BeastMen humanoid animals]]:
** The first and most important are, of course, the Salusians.
** Volume 2 introduces the (Canarians?), a race of aliens who resemble humanoid dogs. They are presented as shorter and more cartoony in proportions compared to the other IntelligentGerbil races.
** Volume 3 introduces the Scilurians, a race of humanoid squirrels whose racial Hat seems to be MadScientist: they are regarded as some of the cleverest creatures in the universe, but their culture revolves around advancing the cause of science [[ForScience at the exclusion of all moral or political ramifications]].
** Technically, the RatMen of Dimension X, although they are denizens of a parallel Earth rather than "proper" aliens.
* {{Jerkass}}: Lendo, before CharacterDevelopment post-Timeskip turned him into a BadassNormal version of a ReplacementFlatCharacter. Tetsuo took his place as the resident Jerkass to Ricky in the second series.
* LawyerFriendlyCameo
* LittleBitBeastly: Salusians transformed into human form retain their original ears poking out of their hair... in addition to having human ears.
* LoveDodecahedron: It's a series inspired by ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'' and ''Manga/UruseiYatsura''. Naturally, romantic entanglements get ''complicated''.
** At the core is the LoveTriangle between Jeremy, Ichi-kun, and Asrial. This is ultimately resolved when Jeremy and Asrial have kids and get married. Yes, in that order.
** Lendo is introduced in a LoveTriangle with Jeremy and Ichi-kun. This is ultimately resolved when Lendo and Ichi-kun hook up due to Jeremy choosing Asrial.
** Minor character Kaiju Akaru arrives hoping to claim Ichi-kun as his girlfriend, but gives up on her after being beaten in a fight by Jeremy.
** Ricky has ''two'' harems across two different portions of the manga. He's loyal to superhero girlfriend Heidi (aka "Tomorrow Girl") for most of them, but in Volume 2, he has both Yumei and Solora quietly crushing on him and in Shidoshi, Sora ultimately steals his heart.
* LoveHurts: In Steamhead's origin - he was engaged to be married in Germany as the Nazis rose to power. However, he was denounced as being Jewish (due to a grandparent), and his fiancee publicly repudiated him, saying that "Love is no longer possible." Receives a MeaningfulEcho later, when she privately tells him that she'll elope with him to another country, but he repeats the line to her and commits to leaving Germany alone... while hiding his tears and committing his life [[ForScience to science]].
* McNinja: Anna Feeple and both of her sons, although Jeremy doesn't show it off nearly as much. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] when Jeremy reads Kudasai's diary - Anna was adopted into the Ichinohei clan after her mother was killed trying to help Kudasai during UsefulNotes/WorldWarII. She remains part of the clan and has taught both of her sons some skills, although Ricky takes to it more readily.
* MiddleOfNowhereStreet: Subverted. The strange events are quite well-known, but so commonplace that they are [[WorldOfWeirdness no longer news]].
* MissingMom: Yumei Katana's during the Hawaii series [[spoiler: We later find out she had went into hiding to get away from her abusive husband (helped out by Anna) and tricked Yumei into coming down to Hawaii so she can look after her. She also married to the above mentioned janitor of the series]].
* MorphicResonance: Salusians transformed into human form always keep their true form's ears in addition to their human form ears. It's unclear if this is a defect in the technology, or a deliberate stylistic preference by the notably vain Salusians.
* MundaneUtility: Ninja skills apparently can make any household task easier. Exaggerated by Ichi's father - apparently, the ''only'' thing he ever used his ninja skills for was to show off for others. The few shots of him using any remotely ninja-like skill are generally implied to be him entertaining at parties.
* {{Ninja}}: Itchy Koo, Lendo, many others.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: The series STARTS here, and gets WEIRDER.
* OlderAndWiser: The original cast members after the TimeSkip.
* {{The Power of Love}}: Jeremy seems to have this in spades.
* PoweredArmor: Asrial was able to pull out a set at the drop of a hat.
%%* PutOnABus: Inevitable in a series featuring so many characters.
* PuttingOnTheReich: The RNC's PrivateMilitaryContractors follow this trope.
* QuirkyHousehold: The Feeple family by the end of the Shidoshi arc consists of:
** Patriarch Bob Feeple (King of the RatMen of Dimension X) and Anna Feeple (retired master ninja).
** Son Jeremy Feeple (part-time MadScientist and interplanetary ambassador), his wife Asrial (alien skunk-woman princess), and their three HalfHumanHybrid children.
** Son Ricky Feeple (master ninja) and his heavily pregnant wife Sora (once-human, now-elven super-thief).
** Adoptive daughter Bianca ([[RatMen humanoid rat]] and master fencer).
* QuirkyTown: Quagmire is a place so weird that warring {{Mad Scientist}}s, alien visitors and McNinja battles don't even warrant a batted eyelid.
* RelationshipRevolvingDoor: Where do we start? This series manages to outcomplicate ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf!''
** For the longest time, the LoveTriangle between Jeremy, Ichikun and Asrial seems set to end with Jeremy/Ichikun. But instead he ends up with Asrial.
** Whilst Ichikun is seemingly intent on wedding Jeremy, Lendo actually largely gives up on her and tries to start a relationship with local WholesomeCrossdresser Sammi Kondo. Then Lendo and Ichikun get married during the 4-year timeskip between Volume 1 and Volume 2. But the relationship is [[AwfulWeddedLife initially very unhappy]], to the point that when Lendo returns to Quagmire, he tries to rekindle something with Sammi. But that goes nowhere and instead, by the end of Volume 2, Lendo and Ichikun straighten out their relationship and truly fall in love with each other.
** And then there's Ricky, who gets ''two'' different harems between Volume 2 and Shidoshi! In Volume 2, he's in an established relationship with superhero Heidi, whilst both Yumei (half-sister to Lendo & Tetsuo) and Solora start crushing on him, although they never have the courage to express their feelings. In Shidoshi, fellow ninja trainee Sora starts aggressively flirting with Ricky, and whilst he tries to stay loyal to Heidi, she ultimately breaks up with him, whereupon Sora pounces. The two ultimately end up married and expecting their first child by the end of Shidoshi.
** Yumei, who was attracted to Ricky, ends up finding a new love in the Hawaii stories. [[spoiler:But ends up legally married against her will to a robot double of Ricky.]]
** Suzume, an assassin who does express a slight attraction to Ricky, instead ends up with [[LesYay Dawn]] the {{shinigami}}.
** Heidi [[spoiler: ends up marrying a fellow superhero during the eight year timeskip in Shidoshi.]]
** Tetsuo has his own complicated relationship. [[spoiler:He initially tries to flirt with Suzume, who turns him down, then falls in love with his previously IgnoredEnamoredUnderling, Nanashi. They spend years together, but then Tetsuo is forced to accept an ArrangedMarriage to a [[Manga/RanmaOneHalf Chinese Amazon]] named Sun Shang Xiang for fear that Nanashi will be killed if he refuses.]]
* RelationshipUpgrade: Over the course of the original series, Jeremy, Lendo, Ichi-kun and Asrial go from a LoveDodecahedron to two married couples; Jeremy and Asrial, and Lendo and Ichi-kun.
* ReplacementFlatCharacter: Lendo became this post Timeskip, after spending most of the series as the antagonistic Jerkass. His role was then filled by a new Jerkass, his younger brother, Tetsuo. Who is, [[spoiler: post-second-Timeskip, turning into a BadassNormal [[ReplacementFlatCharacter Niles]] himself.]] Looks like it runs in the family.
** Unfortunately, [[spoiler: for Tetsuo, at least,]] it didn't take.
** Actually...[[spoiler: We find out later this was a ploy to save his girlfriend, Nanashi from the Elder Stars. When he learned that his grandfather, head of the Elder Stars, would have Nanashi killed if Tetsuo did not comply with the arranged marriage to a Chinese Amazon princess his family had set up for him, he chose to go along with his family's wishes to save Nanashi's life. To atone for this betrayal, he sets up a multi-million dollar account for Nanashi, unbeknownst to her.]].
* RetiredBadass: Anna Feeple.
* TheRival: Rivalsan Lendo again. He could hardly be anything else with a name like Rivalsan. He also heads the Rivalsan Ninja Corporation.
** His younger brother, Tetsuo, later becomes this to Ricky.
* RivalScienceTeams: Professor Steamhead vs. Professor Hossenfeffer.
* RobotMaid: Nanny, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin whose name describes what she does for Asrial]]. Her design is based on the robots from ''Anime/CastleInTheSky''.
* RoyalBlood: Asrial is a princess of the Salusian royal family, and has no shame in reminding others of this. It seems to be a family trait, as well.
--> "A human is no match for a Salusian of Imperial Birth!"
* RoyalBrat: Asrial and her sister Andromeda, though not all that bad they have an annoying habit of letting everyone know it when they get the chance. Solora from Volume 2 is ''way'' worse about it.
* RoyalRapier: Jeremy is rather adept at fencing weapons, even surprising his friends in Chapter 3 when (while under MindControl) he was dangerous with a saber. Expanded when he stayed in Japan with Kudasai for a few weeks; as his father was a fan of movies with a bunch of {{Flynning}}, he taught Jeremy how to fence. Kudasai seemed rather impressed.
* RoyaltySuperpower: The Salusian royal family exists because they alone have the unique genetic code that grants them SuperStrength; the further a Salusian's familial relationship from that royal family, the weaker their strength, with the commoners having no such power at all.
* SamusIsAGirl: Introduction of Sammi, who was forced to cross-dress due to her father not wanting to lose a bet and go into bankruptcy.
* ScrewDestiny:
** For a large part of volume 1, an important side-character is Jeremy and Ichikun's time-traveling daughter from the future, and it's generally portrayed that the two are destined to be together. Then, in the second last story of Volume 1, it's implied that Jeremy [[DidTheyOrDidntThey might have had sex with Asrial]] during a visit to Salusia with her. Volume 2 then makes it explicit that, yes, they did bang, and in fact Jeremy accidentally impregnated Asrial, which leads to Ichikun marrying Lendo instead. Although, ironically, it takes until the end of Volume 2 before Jeremy and Asrial get married and settle down together.
** Ricky decides to instead "Screw Tradition", bringing him into conflict with the Elder Stars.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney: Rival-san Lendo and Tetsuo Rivalsan.
* ShaggyDogStory: Lendo and the neighboring town's CaptainErsatz of [[ComicBook/ArchieComics Veronica Lodge]] attempt to have a contest to see who can sell the most ice cream at a fair, which quickly devolves into an UltimateShowdownOfUltimateDestiny of nearly every superhero, sentai team, or similar character from both Japan and the U.S. The ending? [[spoiler: The CaptainErsatz for Jughead Jones eats all the ice cream of both parties without paying.]]
* ShapeshiftingLover: Jeremy and Asrial's relationship is a science fiction, non-tragic take on the genre. In particular, once it's revealed to him, Jeremy has no problems with Asrial's true body.
* SharedUniverse: ''NHS'' is loosely in the same continuity as Fred Perry's ''ComicBook/GoldDigger'', with several crossover arcs and miniseries between the two.
* {{Shout Out}}: Plenty, in fact the comic pretty much runs on this. In the picture above, Asrial is pretty much wearing the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamZZ Gundam Double Zeta]].
* TheSlacker: Generally, any reference to Ichi-kun's father will be in how he wastes his family's skills on petty parlor tricks (one background image was him using his ninja skills to balance a horde of chopsticks and toys to entertain friends). All indications are that he either passed on the chance to be in line for clan leadership or was simply content to let his daughters contend for it instead.
* SleepModeSize: Ordinarily, Kudasai Ichinohei (Ichi-kun's grandfather) is a fairly small, if fit, gentleman. However, when Ichi-kun challenges him at the beginning of the comic for leadership of the clan, he dramatically increases in size and takes on a HeroicBuild. Later given a TakeThat in a flashback issue, when Ichi-kun imagines the form with a [[Creator/RobLiefeld "Body By Liefeld"]] sign.
* SmellySkunk: Subverted with the Salusians, who despite looking like [[BeastMan humanoid skunks]] have no musk glands. They compensate with SuperStrength instead -- at least, [[RoyaltySuperpower their rulers do]].
* StartOfDarkness: Yuudai during the Shidoshi era. [[spoiler:His beloved empress was assassinated by the Five Elder Stars because Yuudai was too skilled for them to kill him directly, then he was killed by the Red Ninja before he could strike back against the Elder Stars. He was revived fifty years later by his loyal henchman Kiyoshi, now a vampire calling himself Kyonshi, when the Red Ninja had died of old age.]] [[spoiler:And then over the centuries he learned that Kyonshi was the one who killed the empress for the Five Elder Stars.]]
* StupidJetpackHitler: Seriously, Ben loves his (fictional) Nazis.
---->'''Ricky''': That gotta be the second biggest Hitler robot I've ever seen!
* SuperStrength: One of the powers of a "Salusian of Imperial birth" like Asrial.
* {{Superpowered Evil Side}}: CuteWitch Mimi has one which nearly took over Hell. Suzume (one of Ricky's ninja partners) also has one that can't tell friend from foe due to her clan's very brutal training from birth.
** Thanks to a brainwashing early in the series, ''Jeremy'' also has a super''genius'' evil side ([[BadassNormal good in a fight, too]]), more or less ComicBook/DoctorDoom in a [[PuttingOnTheReich Nazi-esque]] uniform.
* SweetPollyOliver: Sammi is emotionally blackmailed into this by her father, who sent her to live with her uncle and told her that a heart condition would kill him if he found out that Sammi is actually a girl.
* TakeAThirdOption: How Tetsuo manages to get one over on the Elder Stars [[spoiler: After they deny him the choice of marrying his true love. He decides to play it their way and follow tradition, which means he could spread his secrets to other ninja clans and bankrupt them financially without breaking from their iron clad traditions. Say the least while he doesn't beat them psychically (he tried but was no match) he manages to do so by sheer wit and turning their customs back at them.]]
* TestosteronePoisoning: Kaiju Akaru, an island native who doesn't know anything about modern civilization and largely judges everything on how manly it is.
* {{Troperiffic}}: Or a ClicheStorm; your mileage may vary.
* TimeSkip: Starting with Issue 75, which picks up 5 years after the original series, and later in Issue 168, which takes place seven years after ''that.''
* TimeyWimeyBall: Mita Celande has a time machine, and some of her temporal doings (such as taking Mimi Masters and Jeremy back to when the Feeple line was cursed by Mimi's ancestor) start throwing monkey wrenches in how things are to play out. She eventually has to leave due to a TemporalParadox (namely, that her ancestors [[spoiler: Jeremy and Ichi-kun]] were no longer going to have children together) potentially negating her existence. Ironically, that's actually what happened to her!
* TookALevelInBadass: Rival-san Lendo after the TimeSkip. Sora, when she had her chi unlocked by her grandfather.
* UnfazedEveryman: This is pretty much Jeremy all over. Despite the fact he takes ninja training, he hardly ever uses it.
* UnsoundEffect: "Retort!" is just one of several that get trotted out for various actions.
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: Jeremy has ''two''...and they're both very deadly.
* VitriolicBestBuds: One of Steamhead's closest and most trusted colleagues is Professor Beanhead, and the two have worked well together since World War II. This does not stop the two from regularly arguing over whether steam or beans are more important for the advancement of science.
* WeddingsInJapan: While it's only shown in a couple panels, Bob and Anna Feeple had a traditional Japanese marriage ceremony.
* WeirdnessMagnet: The Feeple Family and the town of Quagmire in general.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: A literal example of this occurs in Issue #14, when a (normal sized) talking rat appears before Jeremy with a message from his father, Bob Feeple inviting Jeremy to Dimension X, where Bob has become Emperor of the Rats. The rat uses a dimensional beam gun to spirit Jeremy, Asrial, and Ichi to Dimension X which is populated by human sized anthropomorphic rats. The original rat is never seen or mentioned again.
* WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway: This is actually Jeremy's shining trait in the first series. Despite being surrounded by supernaturals and extraterrestrials, he can calm a situation simply by being himself and attempting to talk it down. Course if need be he will fight if he has to but the former is his true "power".
