''Extinctioners'' is a comic book created, written and drawn by Shawntae "Ebony Leopard" Howard (who did some art for ''ComicBook/{{Katmandu}}'') that features a superhero theme, but uses anthropomorphic animals as its main characters. With an ongoing run beginning in July 1998, the series has been published by Vision Comics, Shanda Fantasy Arts, Angry Viking Press and Creator/AntarcticPress.

The comics follow hybrids, humanoid animals possessing special powers which augment some species characteristic. The humanoid animals on the planet Alden, or humanimals, were genetic constructs created for the purpose of avoiding having animals become extinct on an overpopulated Earth. During a global war, the humans discovered a new fresh planet though a wormhole that would be habitable for mankind. Thinking the idea risky, they sent a seeding of humanimals with human trainers to the planet to terraform it and build cities and set up social organizations. However, they lose contact with their humanimal constructs, leaving them alone on the planet.

!!This comic-book provides examples of:

* AndThisIsFor: [[spoiler: Vague ends up doing this twice to Terrorbull (a hybrid who was a loyal agent for the Hunters) in the series. She originally killed him for slaughtering half her family during the night of Katherine's birthday, [[ItMakesSenseInContext and then killed his evil spirit while inside Walice's subconscious several issues later]], saying it was for all the misery he put her through after he possessed her through an unknown superpower he had, which activated after his original death.]]
* AnimalSuperheroes: All the superheros in the comic are anthro animals, and a good chunk of the supervillains are also anthro characters (with some more willing in their role than others).
* AxCrazy: Vague (due to [[GrandTheftMe outside interference]].)
* BarefootCartoonAnimal: Most of the furry characters. Even when the heroes are wearing their uniforms, they start out as {{Fully Dressed Cartoon Animal}}s but in later designs their toes are uncovered.
* BearsAreBadNews: Harvest (real name Sindi Ursulus), an anthro bear with the ability to control plant life, is one of the hybrids in the story working for the human invaders. Her bio also mentions that due to her fathers dictatorship status in her home country, it would be an understatement to say she grew up spoiled.
** Harvests aforementioned father, Yogy Ursulus, also qualifies for this trope [[spoiler: given his aggressive confrontation with President Equinus in Issue 14 over recent events that connect to his daughter vanishing.]]
* BroughtDownToNormal: [[spoiler: During the final showdown with Phionix (Phenix and Xenifs merged and dangerous form), Scarlet is hit by an attack that devolves her from an evolved bipedal fox to a regular real life fox, though she manages to keep her intelligence intact until she is brought back to her original form.]]
* TheCameo: Shawntae Howard (the author of the series) has his panther fursona Ebony Leopard appear alongside several other anthro characters under the Angry Viking Press umbrella during a fight segment in the sixth comic.
* CardCarryingVillain: Considering they call their group the ''Evil'' Cat Sisters (ECS), it`s safe to say the Andorozons main foes are these.
* CaptainErsatz and the Uncanny {{Expy}}-Men: It's not hard to figure out which eXtinctioners are ComicBook/XMen turned furry.
* CelebrityResemblance: Stalker, one of the human handlers, has an uncanny resemblance to Music/KurtCobain, except Stalker is heavily implied to be [[EvilBrit British]].
* {{Crossover}}: Some members of the Extinctioners meet up with the Andorozons (another super hero team) during the "Enter the Andorozons" arc and help them fight against their rivals, the Evil Cat Sisters.
** Issues 11-13 also feature a side story centering on the latter hero team, while Rokki appears in another story as Jacobs love interest [[spoiler: and later discovers that she`s [[SurprisePregnancy pregnant with his twins.]]]]
* CurbStompBattle: During the opening act in the sixth issue, [[spoiler: all the hero`s (excluding Sly and Erica) partake in a mock hostage crisis/fight, with Pandora playing the role of the hostage and Warfare facing off against everyone else, posing as one of the human invaders. Despite the hero`s best efforts, Warfare ends up easily picking them off one by one via. their weaknesses and takes the win, making him show concern as to how the team will fare in an inevitable real conflict.]]
* DifferentlyPoweredIndividual: The term for powered individuals is "hybrid".
* DrowningMySorrows: At one point in the comic, President Equinis drinks half a dozen shots of alcohol while apprehensively reflecting on the events of the story from his perspective (mainly the human invaders and their actions over the past year). He also ponders what the humans involvement was with his adopted daughters disappearance, unaware that she probably wouldn't remember him and would only see him as a target that needs to be taken out, due to the invaders influences.
* EarthAllAlong: During a side story in the 10th comic, Jacob and Radica Procyon, a raccoon Jacob caught breaking in and stealing food from the groups house, discover a prerecorded transmission from [[spoiler: Noah Adam Mahn, explaining that the planet the humanimals live on is actually Earth, with the climate change and melted polar icecaps affecting the renamed land forms appearances]].
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Even though they are plotting to slaughter and/or enslave a majority of the humanimals of Alden for their own kind, the human Hunters seem to view Stalker (real name Ethan Stalworth) as absolutely insane and dangerous thanks to his over the top level of violence and sadistic nature, to the point where they don't entirely trust him and his humanimal partner Lynx Wilde.
* {{Fanservice}}: Ebony Leopard's art pages across various media sites [[note]]Deviant Art and Fur Affinity to name two examples [[/note]] have plenty of sketches depicting the male characters (like Sly, Farsight and Maxwell) showing off their abs and female characters (like Catrina and Artica) in bikini`s striking a pose.
* FantasticRacism: Scarlet has a strong dislike for felines and often doesn't hide her contempt for them whenever one is in the same room with her. [[spoiler: The reason behind her hatred is that she witnessed three felines fatally stab her older brother Travas on her forth birthday and escape punishment, still not brought to justice as of the most recent issue]]. The only feline Scarlet acts decent to is Katherine, as she formed a truce with her during the first arc amid a critical rescue mission and kept it going long after said mission ended.
* FantasyCounterpartMap: Both [[https://www.furaffinity.net/view/52943299/ Shawntae Howard]], with the help of some fans, [[https://www.furaffinity.net/view/52945570/ had created a world map of the setting]], which mostly takes place in their world equivalent of Earth's North America:
** The Confederation of Canidea is basically UsefulNotes/{{Canada}} with another name.
** The United Species of Acirema is the UsefulNotes/UnitedStates, being Acirema an anagram of "America".
** Azteco is UsefulNotes/{{Mexico}}, with many parts of its geography heavily changed.
** Oddly enough UsefulNotes/{{Iceland}}'s name remains unchanged, through its capital, Reykjavík, is renamed as "Ice City" instead.
* ForcedIntoEvil: If a hybrid gets captured and refuses to willingly join the alien invasion force, they get their memories painfully erased via a mindswipe process and are then equip with a mind control collar that makes them unquestionably loyal to the Hunters. The only way to break out of the control is to tear off said collar.
* FurryConfusion: Averted in that, on Alden at least, only mammals are anthro while reptiles and birds fill the "non-intelligent animal" roles (with the notable exception of Phenix).
* GreaterScopeVillain: During the Forbidden Love arc, [[spoiler: it`s revealed that by searching many dimensions and worlds for Phenix, Xenif and his powers indirectly helped lead the humans to Alden, putting all the species in harms way as a consequence.]]
* HalfHumanHybrid: All of Aldens sentient population is made up of anthro animals whos ancestors were evolved through an experiment that gave them more human traits, such as being able to walk bipedal and having their own complex personalities.
** HybridMonster: ...And said evolved animals who have powers (better known as hybrids in-universe) could be considered this.
* HappilyAdopted: Though it wasn't shown before her introduction in the first arc, it was implied that [[spoiler: Zelda Equinus (an anthro zebra) had this in relation with her adoptive donkey parents before she was abducted and brainwashed into being a loyal soldier for the human invaders.]]
* HateSink: All the human invaders in the comic are worthy of this trope, considering they see any species outside their own as a lower life form that needs to be enslaved and used for their invasion plan at best to exterminated at worst. However, Noah Adam Mahn stands out above the rest of the invaders due to how many atrocities he committed before his team was even introduced to the story. Read about his actions towards the heroes in [[YMMV/{{Extinctioners}} the YMMV section]] and it quickly becomes clear why plenty of readers feel a special form of hatred and anger towards the human whenever the story focuses on him.
** Out of all the hybrid characters, Bajer Blaquestrype is clearly the most despised animal villain in the comic. Unlike other hybrids working for the human invaders, Bajer isn't forced to serve their cause out of fear or mind control. Rather, he's a free agent who helps hunt down other hybrids in exchange for luxury/rewards, not caring about what will happen to all the other animals of his planet once the humans really get their invasion plan into full swing. The fact he also has a SmugSnake vibe to his personality further adds to the dislike.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: Jacob, Walice, and Warfare officially defect from working with Mahn and the Hunters during the Countdown to Extinction arc, joining the titular team in the process. Though in the former two`s cases, Jacob was mostly working for the Hunters out of fear, and Walice wanted to escape the Hunters facility with CeeCee, but couldn`t find the right time to do so by the time the first arcs plot kicked off.]]
* HoldYourHippogriffs: The comic replaces every instance of "god" and "hell" with "maker" and "Kenal" respectively.
* HumansAreBastards: The invaders in the first story arc and throughout several other issues in the series; people wearing [[SkeletonsInTheCoatCloset skull masks]] tend to not be very nice.
* KangaroosRepresentAustralia: Or to be more accurate, the renamed continent known as Ailartsua.
* LastOfHisKind: Umnus. [[spoiler: During the Forbidden Love arc, it's revealed that six other female Remalons survived the destruction of their planet caused by the Hunters, much to Umnus` surprise. However, one of them (Kyra) ends up dying from a fatal attack by Xenif, another (Onex) is revealed to be willingly working with a secondary antagonist and wouldn`t hesitate to kill all the others of her kind (forcing Umnus to blast her away to another dimension) and the final four end up getting dragged through a portal at the end of the story arc when Xenif is defeated by an enraged Phenix, [[YankTheDogsChain leaving Umnus alone once again.]]]]
* LethalChef: Phenix, who serves as both the Extinctioners team leader and the team chef, has cooking skills that leave a lot to be desired for. Some examples of her poor cooking are roasted carrion and soup that is REALLY hot (with Katherine finding out the hard way when taking a tiny sample of the latter).
* MixAndMatchCritters: It's an easy fact to miss that almost every animal is sort of this. The animals of Alden were uplifted by the humans to be more like them (as in being bipedal and having different personalities among themselves to name two of many examples). The anthropomorphism and term "humanimal" aside though, each species is still basically their own species, as none of the populace sees themselves as a human/(other species) mix.
* MixedAnimalSpeciesTeam: The team include three cats (Alleycat, Vague, and Copycat), a fox (Starfox), weasel (Forcewave), mouse (Micro), panda (Pandamonium), ermine (Mindswipe), gorilla (Warfare), an alien (Shadowstalker), and a phoenix who poses as a rabbit (Phenix). Most other superhero teams in the setting are based around a single species or group of species like The Solar Foxes, [=MechaRoos=], and L.A.P.D.O.G.S.
* MultiNationalTeam: In the same way, the titular team has members from their universe's version of many Earth countries, mainly the U.S., Canada, Australia, Japan and the outer space. Likewise, the human Hunters are composed from people from the U.S., England, Ireland, Africa, and Japan
* OneSteveLimit: Averted, as there are two characters named Pandora in the comic (Pandora Lee, the anthro panda and member of the Extinctioners, and Pandora Panovich, an anthro black panther and member of the Evil Cat Sisters).
* PerpetualFrowner:
** Although he shows a variety of other emotions, this expression seems to be Walice Weazels main mood throughout the series (due to him usually irritated by something if he's not just feeling bitter).
** Warfare also has this expression throughout the comic.
* SpeciesSurname/ ADogNamedDog: A lot of animal characters have names that are strongly connected to the type of species they are, like Katherine and Catrina Fela (anthro cats), Walice Weazel (anthro weasel) and Pandora Lee (anthro panda).
* StealthPun: The gorilla's name is "Warfare".
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: When the whole titular team goes on a shopping trip at a local mall to boost morale early in the series, none of the other shoppers find it odd that said group has a gorilla (Warfare), alien (Umnus) and famous celebrity rabbit (really Phenix posing in her alter ego) among them; Warfare because [[spoiler: all the monkey species that were uplifted didn't originally go to the parallel Earth/Alden with all the other animals (as Noah Adam Mahn revealed to the captured heroes during some evil gloating in the first arc)]], Umnus [[CaptainObvious because he's an alien]] and Phenix because her alter ego identity is one of the most famous living fashion designers on the planet. The closest anyone reacts to the out of place trio is when Phenix buys a lot of cars from a sales fox in a store for the teams transportation purposes (with said fox [[SarcasmMode flabbergasted that a very rich celebrity is partaking in excessive spending]]).
* WaterfallShower: Scarlett Ann Starfox takes a shower under a waterfall while wearing a swimsuit.
* WouldHurtAChild: It's made clear early on that the Hunters don't care how young a humanimal that gets in their way is, as they will kill him/her without a moment of hesitation just as they would anyone else. [[spoiler: When Maxwell talks to Katherine about what happend the night he was taken by the Hunters forces, he says that they tried to kill her little brother Taren alongside her parents and infant sister, with Warfare and Catrina directly stopping said execution from being carried out at the last second.]]
