A 31 year old (19 at his debut) Pokémon Trainer from a nondescript town in Kanto near Viridian City. Tagg started his own Pokémon journey ten years before the events of the story with an unnamed Bulbasaur, making him one of the most experienced Trainers in the group.

Within the first few years of his journey, Tagg ended up collecting the badges of the Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn regions and had several run ins with Teams Rocket, Magma, and Aqua, as well as Cipher in Orre. During this time he also met Groudon and received a Blue Orb from him following a rather odd card game. At the age of 16 he tired of simply doing battles and joined the [[JustForFun/ThePokedexExtendedFanonEdition Expanded Pokedex Project]], which allowed him to explore a good portion of the world for science, and take down a MegaCorp in the process.

When he was 17, he traveled to Sinnoh for research and Gym Badges, and got involved in the fight against Team Galactic concurrently to DS' own journey, though neither was aware of each other at the time, and Tagg's own involvement was behind the scenes. Afterwards, he wandered around again, having many more adventures, before ending up at an airport at 19 and meeting the people that would become his closest friends.

Since then, Tagg's become a Mudkip, helped kill two glitches, helped take down a Team Rocket admin, earned all eight Unovan Gym Badges, ended up in a tie with Fool at the GC, helped calm Primal Dialga at the end of a month's stay in an alternate universe, and has gone on other crazy adventures with said friends.

----

* AccidentalMisnaming: During the infiltration of the Altru Tower Tagg is mistaken for a Cipher operative by the name of Bernaldo, even after he changes back to his regular outfit, to his extreme annoyance.
* ActionDad: The Freshman Iridium is partially derived from his DNA, so he's her genetic father, and a skilled trainer and competent Aura duelist.
* AdoptivePeerParent: Tagg is basically the closest thing Pef has to a father figure, but they first met when the former was around 19 and the latter was 14.
* AnotherSideAnotherStory: His concurrent adventures to Gamer and DS in the Hoenn and Sinnoh regions.
* TheAtoner: Following Orre he's been making a constant effort to keep himself from falling off the wagon again by giving into revenge.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Even without the use of Aura, Tagg's extremely observant of his surroundings.
* BadassBookworm: Tagg is both a skilled researcher and a skilled combatant, both in terms of Pokemon battling and hand to hand. Amongst the J-Team he's considered one of the strongest members if not ''the'' strongest member of the group, with very few direct losses, and most of those were sparring matches where he wasn't going all out.
* BarrierWarrior: Tagg ''is'' capable of making Auric barriers, but in comparison to Crewe his were originally very weak and were only useful for buying time, though by his battle with Constantin they appear to have gotten strong enough to be an effective defense, though they still pale in comparison to Chiyo's.
* BashBrothers:
** Often teams up with Gamer for Double Battles in earlier arcs, and they even team up to take the E4 challenge together.
** He and Tracer work very well together.
* BeenThereShapedHistory: Tagg has been present for some of the most important events of the Pokémon world, including [[VideoGame/PokemonEmerald the weather trio's clash]] and [[VideoGame/PokemonPlatinum the events of Mt. Coronet]], not even counting the things he's been up to since joining the J-Team.
* BerserkButton:
** Never treat a Pokémon like trash in front of him. For this reason he appears to hate Cipher and poachers of any stripe especially.
** Accusing him of being a Pokémon abuser, as he attempted to throttle Herbert for that.
* BestServedCold: Tokarev tried to murder him at 13, and he's wanted revenge against him and Cipher for their crimes ever since. About eight or so years pass before he can try making good on that.
* BetterWithNonHumanCompany: Save for a handful of people, Tagg gets along better with Pokémon than he does with most humans.
* BoldExplorer: Tagg is a researcher who can't help but end up adventuring.
* BrokenAce: Tagg is an incredibly gifted trainer who suffers from PTSD from his past experiences and is implied to be a DeathSeeker on some level, as while he's not in a rush to die ''per se'', it's more his friends who keep him breathing.
* CantStopTheSignal: His task during the establishing operation in PEFE backstory was to ensure that evidence of Pokefuture's misdeeds reached the media and he eventually ended up taking refuge in a Kantonese embassy.
* ChainPain: His most used form of Auric construct apart from his Aura blade are chains for binding and/or whipping opponents. By the Conquest arc he's figured out how to make bladed chains for slicing, stabbing, and shredding opponents.
* TheChainsOfCommanding: As Tagg has become more of a leader, he's also had to deal with making decisions he's not necessarily happy about due to the J-Team evolving from just a bunch of traveling trainers who happen to defeat evil teams on the side, to becoming an institution that cannot be seen doing certain things, often without the knowledge of the bulk of the group for their own protection.
* CharacterDevelopment: Tagg's own personal character arc has dealt with first making friends with people who weren't researchers, to dealing with his own desire for revenge against Cipher, and as of the Recovery saga dealing with what it means to be a leader of more than just mons and the journey towards enlightenment.
* ChickMagnet:
** According to the fanbase he's one of the hottest J-Team guys.
** During the Truth or Dare session Lina, Ammy, Lyuri, and Echo admitted or hinted towards some sort of physical attraction to him.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: It becomes more apparent as the journey goes forward that Tagg doesn't always think like other people, but it's a rather mild case though.
* CollectorOfTheStrange: Tagg has amassed the largest amount of legendary artifacts of any single J-Team member over the course of his adventures.
* ColorMotifs: Tends to wear dark green, blue, or grey clothing, and his internal monologue is colored green.
* CombatPragmatist: Was first shown to be one during the storming of the Sky Fortress and tends to be one in general during fight or die scenarios. For instance, he has no problems ordering all his mons to attack one opponent at once or starting a fight by [[InTheBack attacking from behind]]. As far as he's concerned, when lives are on the line, fighting fair's for chumps.
* CursedWithAwesome: Considers his transformation into a Pokémon during the first PMD arc as this, as after he gets over the initial shock he doesn't really mind being a Mudkip all that much.
* TheCynic: Tagg's experiences have not exactly made him a believer in a just world and purely happy endings, [[KnightInSourArmor but he's willing to fight for them anyway.]]
* CynicismCatalyst: Nearly getting murdered by Cipher as a youth had a major effect on Tagg's worldview, making him a much more cynical person.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Was hinted to have one of these beforehand, but it really came to the fore during the mindscape miniarc when it was revealed that he was a survivor of a Cipher hit, which left him with a longstanding hatred for the organization.
* DeadpanSnarker: Tagg's normal reaction to an annoyance or stupidity is to snark, though he's generally more deadpan than snarky.
* DefiantToTheEnd: His answer when Verax tries to strangle him to death with telekinesis? Simply grabbing his neck with an Aura construct in an attempt to at least make a MutualKill if he couldn't strangle or snap his neck first instead.
* DefusingTheTykeBomb: Attempts to wean the Freshman Iridium, his genetic daughter, off School ideology by taking her on as an apprentice.
* DragonRider: His most common flying draconic mount tends to be Draca the Salamence, though on the ground he's started using Sue the Tyrantrum as of the Kalos arc.
* ElementalEyeColors: Has brown eyes and his Pokéform is a Swampert, a partial Ground-type.
* TheEmpath: Is revealed to be Aura sensitive during the GC arc.
* EndearinglyDorky: While more hidden than most and mostly observed by his mons, Tagg's a bit of a dork under the layers of cynicism and badassery.
* EnemiesList: Tagg has a list of all his adversaries in his possession. Upon getting the Stormchasher he's even added a web of intrigue on a wall.
* EnemyWithin: [[SealedEvilInACan Nihilist!Tagg,]] who represents his inner pain. Luckily, most of the time his other aspects are busy keeping him sealed away.
* EnlightenmentSuperpowers: Is undergoing training with Salvador in order to use the Gates, which necessitates reaching a state of enlightenment.
* ExperiencedProtagonist: Tagg had been a trainer for nine going on ten years when the story started, and a very successful one at that, having beaten four leagues from 10 to 17. Molybdenum inside Megan's mind lampshades it by calling him a classic overachiever.
* EyeObscuringHat: Often invokes this using his hat to cover his eyes when using Aura Sense since his eyes glow when it's in use.
* TheFaceless: A common RunningGag was Tagg not having his face depicted for various reasons due to Jane's writer being incapable of imagining a look for him in-universe. This changes later on.
* FamedInStory: While mostly a virtual unknown starting out despite being a Champion-level trainer from when he was 10 years old, as the years pass Tagg slowly accumulates more and more fame as a J-Teamer to the point that during the Galar Arc around a decade post-Sinnoh in and out of universe he's often greeted as J-Team leader by the Galar Gym Leaders and he's seen by the Galar League as one to beat due to the prestige that would come from beating him.
* FireForgedFriends: A firm believer in friendship through shared harsh experiences:
** He and Lucius become friends through their adventures in Ransei.
** It's clear Tagg thinks of his former enemy Verax as one when he goes to defend him against Zrone on not just pragmatic pretenses.
** He and Daydre become friends defeating the Shadow of a racist politician who targets both of them with racist abuse together.
* FishOutOfTemporalWater: Ends up 600 years in an alternate AU future in PMD-R, and spends Holonquest in 15th Century Ransei.
* FriendOrIdolDecision: Is forced to choose between letting Tokarev go or letting DS die. He chooses DS.
* FriendlyEnemy: With Echo back when she ran the Illusion Project, as neither disliked the other. After Echo's HeelFaceTurn the "enemy" part disappears entirely.
* GenreSavvy: Tagg tends to be pretty hard to fool due to his knowledge of how the [=WAAPTverse=] works, with Anja being one of the few beings who has ever completely outwitted him.
* TheGift: Tagg has a particular knack for figuring out how to make a Pokémon reach their full potential, and has been a Champion-level trainer from when he was 10 years old.
* TheGlovesComeOff: When fighting supernatural or otherwise extremely powerful opponents, Tagg quits playing around and goes straight for the kill.
* GoodIsNotSoft: Tagg is normally a pretty nice guy if rather untalkative, but if angered or if his friends are threatened, he is quite capable and willing to use his own bare hands to beat the daylights out of and/or use his Pokémon to seriously hurt or even outright ''kill'' his enemy if deemed necessary. Basically, while he would very much prefer not to fight unnecessarily and often attempts negotiation, if that doesn't work he will end a threat in the quickest manner possible, which can be fairly brutal. For instance:
*** When Tokarev threatens to kill his friends and girlfriend while beating the crap out of him, Tagg manages to get a HeroicSecondWind and costs the Cipher Admin his eye and right hand and leg by slicing them off, has him dead to rights, and would have killed him had he not needed to rescue DS in that exact moment.
*** [[spoiler:When Tagg finds out that he has the option of having Grohl and Kieran's souls being taken in exchange for Lucius and Alice's revival, he not only takes it without hesitation due to the pain and suffering they've caused, but even requests that Salvador tell Grohl in particular that he said that his friends "are not [Grohl's] playthings" when he reaps his soul so that the Beheeyem would know that Tagg was involved in his death in some fashion.]]
*** When Lex makes him angry by asking for a pizza slice in return for information on Neo-Flare following learning about his part in creating terrible weapons, Tagg lets him have it, but puts it on the ground for Lex to eat like a dog simply to humiliate him for his lack of morals.
* GuileHero: What Tagg can't simply have his mons (Or himself) beat or blast into submission directly, he outsmarts.
* HadToBeSharp: Spent most of his teenage years in the sparsely populated and mountainous Tohoku region analogue having to deal with the elements, poachers, and hostile wild mons where he could've died if he suffered any serious injuries. You don't survive for that long in a place like that without being incredibly clever.
%%* HeroicBSOD: Has one after watching the Anville group get viciously attacked by a pack of Zoroark, and almost has another following the defeat of 'M due to Anom's temporary death. Other moments have included the Oblivia arc and the AU arc.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: Ended up unknowingly helping out both Gamer and DS in their own adventures before they'd even properly met, and as a teenager helped expose Pokefutures' crimes to the Angela region years before ''WAAPT''.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Despite all his accomplishments, Tagg has a lot of self-worth issues.
* HeroicWillpower: It's notable that Tagg appears to have a very strong resistance to mind control and all other types of mental tampering. For instance, it takes a small army of Zrone's Psychic-types to puppet his body, and even then they failed to completely subordinate his will.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Tracer, his closest friend amongst his fellow Founders.
* HeWhoFightsMonsters: In the Orre arc, he ends up murdering a large number of Cipher Peons (Who albeit were ''also'' out to kill him, he just managed to kill them first) and threatens Cipher as a whole with the same fate through a public video. Despite many of the J-Team calling him out on it, he doesn't start to come to a HeelRealization until Tangent and Tracer call him out. However, it doesn't quite stick until he's forced to choose between letting Tokarev go and letting DS die.
* HiddenDepths:
** While people tend to think Tagg's humorless if they don't know him very well, he does have an understated sense of humor.
** Looks into his mindscape also reveal that he has a very acute sense of racial thought, and often worries that his abilities in combat make him a walking stereotype.
* HoldTheLine: Does this in a flashback against a bunch of Team Galactic Grunts on Mount Coronet to serve as a distraction during the climax of the Team Galactic incident.
* HoldingBackThePhlebotinum: The main reason that Tagg doesn't use the Adamant and Blue Orbs very often despite how laughable they could make some of his battles, is a fear of getting overly reliant on legendaries to solve his problems.
* HumansAreWhite: Except for Tagg, who's black.
* HumbleHero: Despite how powerful his mons get and how skilled a Trainer he is, Tagg always remains humble and gracious despite being aware of both things.
* IGaveMyWord: Despite his pragmatism, Tagg takes personal vows ''very'' seriously and when he promises something, he does his best to make it happen.
* InHarmsWay: Admits to DS in a phone call that his current life is the only one he feels comfortable in. Said life being an extremely dangerous one where tomorrow is not guaranteed.
* InTheHood: Tends to wear either a grey or green hoodie, and his Leavanny suit comes with a hood.
* ParentalSubstitute: Serves as basically a surrogate dad to Doc to since his mother's dead and his father's absent, and PEFE!Every since her parents abandoned her.
* ItsPersonal:
** Besides what Cipher did to him in particular, Tagg also hates them for shadowing Doc, doing horrible experiments to Lina, injuring his other friends badly enough to put them in the hospital, and brainwashing his apprentice Ever.
** Stealing Limna from him puts Paul Macraul and the Macraul Family in Tagg's crosshairs.
* JackOfAllStats: While not ''weak'', Tagg is about average in terms of sheer Auric potential (Albeit likely on the higher end of average since he can use the Gates), but makes up for that with an in-depth knowledge of how his powers work as well as being a fairly quick study. As a result, he's probably the most well rounded of the J-Team's Aurics, as while others may be stronger or weaker, he can do most skills competently.
* LargeAndInCharge: Tagg is among the tallest out of all the Trainers still around and happens to be ''de facto'' leader of the J-Team.
* TheLeader: While the J-Team is officially a volunteer outfit with no ''de jure'' leader, Tagg is generally considered the ''de facto'' leader of the J-Team following Anom and Jane's departure from the group both within it and to the world at large, as he tends to be the one that gets everyone on board for planning assaults, and sets general team conduct due to being one of the last remaining senior members.
* LectureAsExposition: Give Tagg a chance and he'll infodump about just about anything that interests him, including important aspects of the universe.
* MalignedMixedMarriage: Zigzagged. Save for Constantin, no one has ever given Tagg and Fool any issues over their relationship in terms of race. It does however remain a periodic fear of his when it comes to the Poké-Korean Channah.
* MakingASplash: As a Mudkip and later [[DishingOutDirt Marshtomp and Swampert]] in the PMD universes or when using a human to Pokémon armband, who are Water and Ground type Pokémon.
* MeaningfulName: Most of his named Pokémon have some sort of meaning to their name.
* TheMentor: Serves as one directly to Ever and Maggie, as well as Crow to a lesser degree. He also tries to advise the other younger members of the J-Team when he can.
* MoralityPet: It's downplayed in that Channah at her worst is more selfish and apathetic than outright evil, but Tagg brings out the better aspects of her nature.
* MrExposition: If something needs to be explained, Tagg is often the one to do it, as he's one of the most knowledgeable J-Team members regarding the world at large, both in its mundane and supernatural aspects.
* MyGreatestFailure: Considers Anom's Yanmega's death in Unova-1, being unable to see through Anja and prevent Vyvyan's transformation into a Rayquaza during Hoenn-1, and the infamous Very Bad Thing during Orre where he gave into his desire for revenge as the greatest failures of his life.
* MysteriousPast: The two to three year period between when he first met Tokarev and when he joined the PEFE hasn't been deeply explored, though according to WordOfGod they were among the most formative of his life.
* NiceGuy:
** Provided that you're not trying to kill or otherwise harm him or his friends, Tagg is a pretty nice guy if a bit distant.
** Both Sol and DS' [[SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan feelings towards him]] were primarily based on his personal kindness rather than his martial prowess or [[AllGirlsWantBadBoys more negative qualities]].
* OddFriendship:
** He and Tracer with Randy, as they're relatively straight-laced researchers while he's a rather crude imageboard contributor.
** Despite all the bad blood between him and Verax during Orre, including mutual attempts to kill one another, they've actually managed to form somewhat of a comradeship if not an outright friendship.
** Despite his hatred of the Macraul family, he gets along with Abilene pretty well.
* OffhandBackhand: Finishes off Constantin during their first duel by backhanding him with a large Aura construct hand.
* OfficialCouple: Is dating Sol, [[{{Polyamory}} and also Channah.]]
* OnlyFriend: Channah's Fangirl aspect mentions that she considers him her only real friend.
* PalsWithJesus:
** Has a pretty good rapport with Groudon and Dialga.
** He's on friendly terms with Uxie to the point that he purposely seeks her out for advice.
* PayEvilUntoEvil: His view on taking on Cipher is to be just as brutal back, which ends up eventually leading to the infamous Very Bad Thing in which he slaughters dozens of Cipher Peons as a threat towards Cipher's leaders following things going to hell in Orre.
* PerceptionFilter: The Someone Else's Problem field, which causes people to ignore him completely.
* {{Polyamory}}: Is dating both Sol and Channah, though his dating of the latter is mostly a secret outside of the J-Team.
* PragmaticHero: Due to the more dangerous nature of his solo adventures, Tagg is a lot more willing to kill his opponents in life-or-death struggles, though he makes a point out of ''only'' doing so if deemed necessary for the protection of himself or others.
* PriceOnTheirHead: Tokarev places a price on his head for Cipher during the Orre Arc, and the Peons he and his mons killed during the Very Bad Thing were purposely looking to collect on his bounty.
* {{Protectorate}}: Considers the entire J-Team to be under his direct protection.
* PunchAWall: Has done this about two times when upset, and has injured his hands both times as a result.
* RankScalesWithAsskicking: The ''de facto'' leader of the J-Team, and considered pretty much the toughest trainer and fighter on it.
* RememberThatYouTrustMe: Often has to be reminded to trust people after he starts to relapse back to his old loner behaviors, which is fairly often.
* RenaissanceMan: Apart from his skills in biology and combat, Tagg has also shown knowledge in history, mythology, sealing, and even explosives engineering. (Enough in the case of the latter that he can even make C4.) He alludes to Megan that he gained the latter skill through an encounter with a survivalist as a teenager.
* TheQuietOne: Tagg doesn't really talk that much.
* SanityHasAdvantages: Manages to defeat Constantin in their first battle by being the more mentally stable of the two despite being the weaker Auric.
* SeenItAll: After several years of travel with the J-Team, it's hard to get a surprised reaction out of him.
* ShellShockedVeteran: Following the end of the AU arc he's had PTSD, though it's very likely he had it before from nearly getting murdered by Tokarev as a kid.
* ShootTheDog: Considers himself the J-Team's unofficial Lillipup shooter, aka the person who's willing to do less than squeaky clean if necessary acts so that the others don't have to. This ends up being deconstructed in that this mentality is in part why he does his Cipher Peon killing.
* SignatureHeadgear: Wears a blue baseball cap 95% of the time, and temporarily replaces it with a rice paddy hat for the Conquest Arc.
* SirSwearsALot: When incensed he has one of the filthiest mouths out of all the trainers, if not ''the'' filthiest, to his own admittance and chagrin, though it has abated over the years.
* TeamDad: Has this role towards his mons, and his interactions with the younger J-Team members has him either doing his best to advise them, or assisting in fixing a mistake they've made while trying to keep them from getting into too much trouble.
* ThereAreNoTherapists: In Tagg's case it's because in his eyes most people simply wouldn't believe that most of his traumas had ever happened, so past Cresselia's Lunar Wing for his nightmares he doesn't have much treatment for his PTSD.
* TimeMaster: When using the Adamant Orb Tagg can manipulate time. In the PMD-B timeline Tagg's knowledge of the Adamant Orb is such that he can age mons to dust or turn them back into eggs on a massive scale.
* TransformationTrinket: Owns a human to Pokémon armband.
* VengeanceFeelsEmpty: When Lucius asks him if he feels great about finally getting revenge on Cipher in the aftermath of the Orre Arc, he answers, "Not really." since DS' near-death reminds him of the cost he almost paid to do so.
* VerbalTic: "My friend" in the earlier arcs, and later ellipses similar to Star's.
* WalkingTheEarth: Has been to all of the known major regions plus Orre within his fourteen years of being a trainer, and is kind of a drifter anyway, normally rarely staying in one place for very long when not with the J-Team.
* WhatTheHellHero: Gets this after slaughtering a bunch of Peons and making a video with their corpses in the background about it by the rest of the J-Team to varying degrees.
* WillfullyWeak:
** A personal rule of Tagg's is to only fight force with appropriate force when in tournament settings, so he's normally willfully battling handicapped. For instance, he won't use Mega Evolution unless his opponent is also using it, and it's also why he tends to start new regions with entirely new teams instead of using his old ones, save for keeping a few on retainer in case he's attacked by a Champion level threat before his current team is ready to handle it.
** Even outside of tournaments he's reluctant to use Mega Evolution unless truly pressed, but that's partially more due to seeing it as overkill when his mons tend to already have an immense gulf of power between them and their opponents save for the supernatural anyway.
* WorldsBestWarrior: While he attempts to keep a low profile, amongst the J-Team Tagg is considered the strongest trainer on it.
* WowingCthulhu: [[spoiler:Manages to convince Yveltal to allow Lucius and Alice's revival by pointing out how their very universe works on narrative causality, and as such their unsatisfying deaths was jarring to near reality-breaking levels, which impresses the death god after Salvador and Sol's appeals fail.]]

!! PMD-B only tropes:

* DyingAlone: Tagg ends up entombing himself in his 90s with the Adamant Orb following a Raider attack, having outlived most of his mons, who ended up dying over the decades to either old age or combat. He was also likely among the last of the PEFE Founders and J-Team members with a mortal mon form to die.

!! For the team in general

* BadassCrew: There are very few things that Tagg's mons can't defeat working together. When combined with enough mons of similar strength they can become an outright BadassArmy.
* BarrierWarrior: Most know Protect.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Since Tagg's Pokémon are the Pokémon of a field researcher, not to mention often dealing with the J-Team's nastier enemies, it makes them far more willing to respond with lethal force if themselves or their trainer are threatened, due to the nature of their job. Outside of battle they're all generally nice though.
* BreakingTheFellowship: In the PMD-B timeline a bunch of Tagg's mons stayed with the Brotherhood of Steel, Helios went to take the Relic Castle throne with Audilith as an advisor, and his Dragon types (Draca, Garchomp, and Hydreigon) left the Brotherhood following his death.
* ChildSoldiers: While most of them would be considered adults by mon standards, Kahina states that she finds it a little disturbing how good they are at fighting despite being so young.
* CombatPragmatist: Just like their trainer, in life-or-death battles, any semblance of fairness is kicked to the curb and they're all very willing to fight dirty, often just straight up mobbing their opponents or being quite willing to open up with a lethal sneak attack.
* CommutingOnABus: As Tagg often switches teams per arc, the ones not being used just spend their time at PEFE HQ.
* ConfusionFu: Tagg's mons tend to know a lot of moves, including ones that you wouldn't expect them to know.
* TheGlovesComeOff: Most of the time Tagg's mons tend to hold back in battles since going full throttle could end up with someone dead. If they don't, they tend to show very quickly what it means to be the mons of a multi-league Champion with more than a decade of experience, both in official and street battles.
* GuestStarPartyMember: Anguis, Ovis, and Azumarill meet Chiyo during the period she's hiding out in Unova with Nicky and Kendra, hang out with them for a bit, and alongside Draca end up assisting her for the climactic raid on the School's Air Train to save Nicky and Kendra from School imprisonment.
* KilledOffForReal: In Salvador's timeline, the Lillifuture, Muddy, Steel, and Draca all died during the Neo-Flare base raid in the Hoenn-2 arc, Muddy in particular at Shaka's hands.
* ScarfOfAsskicking: During PMD-R Tagg's mons all wear scarves, dark green for Team Taxonomy and light green for Team Nova, and they kick plenty of ass during it.
* SnarkBall: Sarcasm is a very common character trait. Even Nudi and Helios have had their moments.
* StrongAndSkilled: What makes Tagg's mons dangerous isn't just that they're to a man extremely strong, but that they have the direction to use their power ''properly''.
* TookALevelInBadass: Team Nova in particular takes several throughout the course of PMD-R, and every new region has Tagg's newest team members turn from a bunch of random mons he finds to a team of true badasses capable of defeating Champions over the course of a few months.
* TrueCompanions: Their loyalty isn't just to their trainer, it's to each other as well as friends.
* UndyingLoyalty: From the deepest depths of the wilderness to even active warzones in the case of the AU, Tagg's Pokémon have followed him everywhere.

An East Sea Gastrodon that Tagg caught in Sinnoh outside of Pastoria as a Shellos. Nudi can be rather naive and a bit of a pain, as well as a sore loser, but Tagg loves him anyway. His specialty is mainly in special attacks and tanking his opponents with his fairly high defense.

* AllLoveIsUnrequited: Falls in love with Bonnie, a Weavile. This works out about as well as you'd expect.
* AnIcePerson: Can use Ice Beam.
* BoisterousBruiser: Loves a good fight.
* DishingOutDirt: Part Ground type.
* [[FeedItWithFire Feed It With Water]][=/=]NoSell: His ability is Storm Drain.

* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Actually calls Neptune a "bastard" before fighting him.
* PinkGirlBlueBoy: In comparison with Read, Ryklys' West Sea Gastrodon.
* PintsizedPowerhouse: The smallest of Tagg's Sinnoh Pokémon at nearly three feet high, yet still fairly powerful.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Was deathly afraid of Sonny after he humiliated him in combat two years before the start of the story until he defeated him during the AU arc.

--> '''Met''': Route 202, Sinnoh (Shinx)

--> '''Ball''': Poke

The third member of Tagg's main Sinnoh team, Luxray was a Shinx when Tagg caught him on Route 202 after he interrupted a battle between Gaia and Roc. While very serious in nature, the one Pokémon he happens to be closest to is Nudi the Gastrodon. In battle he tends to be a jack of all trades.

* CatsAreSnarkers: Especially towards Nudi.
* CastingAShadow: Knows Crunch.
* GlassCannon: Powerful, but kinda squishy.

Tagg's first Sinnoh Pokémon, Gaia was given to Tagg by Professor Rowan. Highly curious in nature, she also happens to act like everyone's mother half of the time. In battle, she relies on her high physical defense and powerful physical attacks.

* DishingOutDirt: Part Ground type.
* GreenThumb: Part Grass type.
* MeaningfulName: Is named after the Greek titan.

--> '''Met''': Mossdeep City, Hoenn (Beldum) [Gift from Steven Stone]
--> '''Ability''': Clear Body
--> '''Ball''': Poke

Cobalt was given to Tagg in Mossdeep as a gift by Steven Stone. [[MagikarpPower While not the strongest Pokémon at first]], he eventually evolved to be one of the most powerful Pokémon in Tagg's possession. Cobalt also happened to be used by Tagg as a translator whenever the group needed to speak to legendaries before they gained their ability to speak to Pokémon. In battle he relies on physical moves such as Meteor Mash, as well as Psychic.

* AnIcePerson: Knows Ice Punch.

* PutOnABus: From Unova till the GC.
* SuperMode: As of the Hoenn-2 Arc he's achieved Mega Evolution.

--> '''Met''': Nuvema Town, Unova (Oshawott) [Recieved from Professor Juniper]
--> '''Ability''': Torrent
--> '''Ball''': Poke

The first Pokémon Tagg obtained in Unova, Musashi was an Oshawott when Tagg received him from Professor Juniper. While not the most sociable of Pokémon, often preferring to practice his swordplay alone, Musashi more or less serves as the second in command of Tagg's Unovan team. In battle he tends to use a mixture of physical and special attacks.

* BackToBackBadasses: With Muddy in AU Sinnoh.
%%* {{BFS}}: Has two.

* {{Cephalothorax}}: As a Roggenrola and Boldore.
* DishingOutDirt: A Rock-type.
* ForcedTransformation: Becomes a human in the Glitch Cave for a short period of time. She's weirded out by the experience to the point that she actively refuses to turn into a human whenever a Pokémon to human armband is around.
* HiddenDepths: You wouldn't expect a Gigalith to be very good at chess.
* MadeOfIron: Due to Sturdy.
* MeaningfulName: She's a rock whose "eyes" are actually ears.
* MightyGlacier: She's the slowest Pokémon on Tagg's Unova team, (though a bit faster than most of her kind) but is the most powerful in terms of physical strength and defense.
%%* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: The inverted version With Vanilluxe.
* ShipTease: Also with Vanilluxe.

* OutOfFocus: Compared to Tagg's other Unovan mons.
* TheBigGuy: Among Tagg's Unovan mons.
* TheStoic: Is very serious.

!!Vanilluxe (Male)

--> '''Met''': Cold Storage, Unova (Vanillite)
--> '''Ability''': Ice Body
--> '''Ball''': Great

Tagg met Vanilluxe in Driftveil's Cold Storage as a Vanillite, where he made off with his hat before Tagg caught up with him. After playing around with everyone, he decided to join Tagg to see the world. Quirky and fairly artistic, Vanilluxe can be rather strange, but is smarter than many give him credit for. He also fathered two children with Audilith the Gigalith, Qui-Gon and Benny, surprisingly. While he doesn't have the greatest physical defense, he has great special defense and has the third highest special attack amongst Tagg's Unovan Pokémon, only beaten out by Helios and Hydreigon.

* AnIcePerson: Ice type.
* BadassAdorable: Despite his appearance and mannerisms he's actually pretty strong.
* BattleCouple: Whenever he and Audilith are fighting together at the same time.
* BerserkButton: Do not call him an ice cream cone or mess with his sculptures.
* CrashIntoHello: How he met Tagg, crashing into him one day.
* EmbarrassingFirstName: His birth name happens to be Hoarfrost.
* ExtraOreDinary: Knows Flash Cannon.
* SquishyWizard: Good in a fight, but can't take many hits. He does begin to get better special defense after he evolves, though he's still pretty susceptible to physical attacks.
* {{Keet}}: He's the most energetic Pokémon on Tagg's team, bar none.
* MakingASplash: Knows Water Pulse.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: His idea of saying hello tends to be pressing his face into the face of the person or mon being greeted.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: When the subject of his parents comes up, Vanilluxe gets a lot more serious.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: The inverted version with Audilith.
* ShipTease: Also with Audilith. He even ends up making an ice sculpture that gets broken by a Stunfisk.

!!Trollfisk (Stunfisk, Female)

* DishingOutDirt: Part Ground type.
* OutOfFocus: Is one of Tagg's least seen mons.
* ShockAndAwe: Part Electric type.
* {{Troll}}: Is a big one to her enemies, hence the name.

!!Hydreigon (Female)

-->"''Do you have any food?''"

--> '''Met''': Unova Victory Road (Deino)
--> '''Ability''': Levitate
--> '''Ball''': Ultra

Hydreigon and Tagg first met at Unova's Victory Road right before the climax of the Unova arc, where she attempted to take a bite out of his leg as a Deino. Taking pity on her upon discovering her emaciation, Tagg took her as his own, and got her undying loyalty as a result. Hydreigon is a good mon at heart, even though she has a nasty temper and lacks tact when it comes to eating. She also had problems comprehending friendship since her world consisted only of "food" and "predators", leading a lot of the other Pokémon to be afraid of her for a while.

* ActionMom: Laid a clutch of Deino eggs following a one night stand with Alduin's brother.
* AndroclesLion: Is extremely loyal to Tagg for saving her life as a Deino.
* BerserkButton: Does not appreciate being called a freak.
* BigEater: Hydreigon is infamous for her appetite, and her way of greeting others tends to be to ask whether or not they have anything to eat.
* ExtremeOmnivore: Besides being a non picky eater, [[ToServeMan in the past she has even tried to eat some of Tagg's friends, and tried to take a bite out of his leg when they first met.]] Justified, as both a general species trait and the fact that she happened to be emaciated at the time.
* HiddenDepths: While at first glance Hydreigon appears to be simply a Canon Dex standard member of her species, she's actually a loving mother, loyal to her friends, and perfectly friendly to those not on her eating list.
* HairTriggerTemper: Tends to get her in trouble since she loses all semblance of rational thought when angry.
* LightningBruiser: Hits hard and fast, and has great durability to boot.
* MultipleHeadCase: Once she evolved into Zweilous.
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: A three headed Dark type hydra.
* PlayingWithFire: Knows Flamethrower and Fire Blast.
* PowerFloats: Due to Levitate.
* ThePowerOfHate: Her pure rage after evolving allowed her to withstand super-effective attacks from almost all of the Trainer's Pokémon.
* PronounTrouble: Had to get reused to referring to herself as "I" instead of "we" after evolving from Zweilous.
* TheQuietOne: Doesn't talk much.
* SplitPersonalityMerge: After evolving into Hydreigon her current personality is a combination of those of her two heads as a Zweilous.
* SuperSenses: All of her senses are far more enhanced than most humans and Pokémon, best of all being her senses of smell and hearing.
* UnstoppableRage: Evolves while in this state. The results aren't pretty, as she ends up going on a rampage, mauling the Pincher who abused her before turning on the trainers once Mira and Artemis intervene.

!!Helios (Volcarona, Male)

--> '''Met''': Most likely hatched in Nimbasa (Larvesta)
--> '''Ablility''': Flame Body
--> '''Ball''': Poke

Helios was hatched by Tagg as the offspring of Celestia and Tagg's Ditto. Helios evolved fairly quickly, which made him powerful, but left him as a physical adult with a child's mind. While seemingly naive and focused mainly on the consumption of honey, he can have a pretty keen insight on what needs to be done. In battle he relies mainly on speed and special attacks, and is one of the most powerful Pokémon in Tagg's possession. Currently he happens to be in a relationship of sorts with Algira, Silent's Masquerain.

----

* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: To Anom's Volcarona, though to him she's more of an [[InvertedTrope annoying older sibling.]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: While one of Tagg's nicest Pokémon, Helios is actually stronger in terms of special attack than Hydreigon, and tends to suffer attacks at his friends [[KillItWithFire poorly.]]
* BigCreepyCrawlies: He's a giant moth.
* BlowYouAway: Knows Hurricane.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Helios tends to spend his days devouring nothing but honey and can at times be rather naive. He also happens to be one of the strongest if not ''the'' strongest mon in Tagg's possession.
* HiddenDepths: While seemingly only interested in honey, Helios can actually be quite perceptive if the situation calls for it.
* {{Keet}}: Is fairly energetic.
* ManChild: Is still rather childlike despite being fully evolved, most likely because of his speed of evolution.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: Helios (Potential lifespan: At least a millennium) is in a relationship with Algira (Potential lifespan: Several decades at best). Celestia does bother to tell them of the drawbacks of that sort of relationship, but they choose to tough it out anyway.
* PlayingWithFire: Part Fire type.
* PowerupMount: Flies Tagg around.
* PrettyButterfly: Well he is a Volcarona.
* PsychicPowers: Knows Psychic.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: Is first in line for inheriting Celestia's desert kingdom, and helps Tagg save the world.
* SweetTooth: Is well known for his love of [[TrademarkFavoriteFood honey.]]
* SquishyWizard: Can take special attacks fairly well, but isn't so good at resisting physical attacks.

--> '''Met''': Route 218, Sinnoh
--> '''Ability''': Impostor
--> '''Ball''': Nest

* AManIsAlwaysEager: Averted, despite the species stereotype, Ditto is actually pretty nervous about having sexual relations with Celestia.
* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch: Unlike most Ditto, Tagg's Ditto is mostly uninterested in sexual acts for pleasure, though they are willing to do it to make mon eggs.
* NonActionGuy: Compared to most of Tagg's other mons, Ditto isn't much of a fighter.
* ShrinkingViolet: Is very shy.

* LightningBruiser: Though she needs a lot of space before she can reach her top speed.
* PlayingWithFire: Knows Fire Fang.
* PutOnABus: Isn't seen since the very beginning of the RP, until Tagg brings her back for the GC Arc.

* MightyGlacier: Powerful, but slow.
* NiceGuy: Coulomb's most notable character trait, compared to fellow Eelektross [[{{Troll}} MGMT]].
* PsychoElectricEel: A sea lamprey, ''not'' a true eel.
* ShockAndAwe: Electric type.

* GlassCannon: Incredibly high Attack...but piss poor Defense and Speed. She becomes a lot faster when using Rock Polish though.
* GodzillaThreshold: Tagg considers using her in crowds this because as a prehistoric Pokémon Rampardos is poorly adjusted for modern living.
* NoBiochemicalBarriers: Averted, she can't eat a lot of modern foods.
%%* NoSell: Has the ability Mold Breaker.

* ImpromptuTracheotomy: In the BadFuture Salvador comes from, Muddy dies from a Leaf Blade through the throat from Shaka.
* MakingASplash: Part Water type.
* NumberTwo: Due to Venusaur being in retirement, Muddy has taken up the mantle for all of Tagg's mons overall, being second only to him in their hierarchy.
* SignatureMon: Tagg may have many Pokémon, but even though he may not be his first, he's most closely associated with Muddy.

--> '''Ability''': Magic Bounce
--> '''Ball''': Poké

* BatmanGambit: A favorite tactic of his is simply to let those he watches do what they do naturally, with little nudges as necessary. PMD-R is basically him manipulating Tagg's Team Taxonomy, Tracer's Team Dreamcast, and Abby and Team Nova into being in the right place at the right time to get rid of the Unity and save Angela and shake the Bay's status quo respectively. The latter also served the purpose of getting the info about the Alakagross Civilization back to Tagg so that he and Tracer could warn their AU counterparts about what was coming and allow a forking of the AU and PMD-B timelines.
* BerserkButton: Despite his more manipulative tendencies he is completely loyal to Tagg, and doesn't really like being accused of disloyalty.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Tagg considers him to have a nearly impossible to understand mindset, and can't mind connect with him like he can with his other Pokémon.

* {{Flight}}: Xatu ''can'' fly, but he's not very good at it as opposed to his teleportation powers.
* GoodIsNotNice: Xatu despite his more manipulative tendencies is on the side of good, but that doesn't mean he's not capable of doing some not so nice things in the name of good.
* ManipulativeBastard: Abby certainly thinks this of him, and he has proven to be fairly manipulative in the past.
* MindRape: Is fully capable of doing this to those that try to harm those he watches over.
* NoSell: Knows Miracle Eye for Dark types.
* NotSoOmniscientAfterAll: Xatu may be able to see the future, but things can still blindside him from time to time, such as the VBT.
* PsychicPowers: Like all Xatu.
* ReasonYouSuckSpeech: Gives one to Morpheus [[https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12971269370a74820100&page=7912#197789 here]], detailing how compared to Tagg and co, he's merely a footnote.

* SoulPower: Knows Night Shade and Shadow Ball.
* TeleportSpam: Is often used to travel from one region to another quickly if flying is too impractical.
* TheQuietOne: Barely talks when visions aren't involved.

* ShipTease: A little with Andre, Tracer's Tyranitar and Pica's younger brother.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Despite their bickering, Artemia and Pica are rarely apart from one another.

!! Ana (Reuniclus, Female)

--> '''Met''': Mt. Pyre, Hoenn
--> '''Ability''': Overcoat
--> '''Ball''': Great

* ArbitrarySkepticism: Has problems believing in certain supernatural phenomena despite not only being a Psychic-type but one that follows a trainer who's a WeirdnessMagnet.
* ForScience: Her catch phrase and modus operandi. Part of the reason Tagg catches her is mainly so that he can have his other mons keep an eye on her in case her experiments go out of control.
%%* PsychicPowers: Like all Reuniclus.

!! Bohr (Slowking, Male)

--> '''Met''': Mt. Pyre, Hoenn (Originally from the Abundant Shrine)

----

* BrattyHalfPint: As a Larvitar she's kind of a brat, thinking little of most other mons and having no issue being rude or rubbing in her percieved superiority.
* BullyingADragon: Decided to snark at her younger brother Gilgamesh, who was fully evolved while she was still a Larvitar, and Sonny. The first ended without incident thanks to Bohr, the second required Artemia and Tagg's other mons to bail her out.
* DeadpanSnarker: As a Pupitar and Tyranitar she ditches the brattiness but increases the snark.
* DishingOutDirt: Part Rock-type.
* DistinguishingMark: As a Larvitar she has a smaller than normal tail "pistil", smaller spines as a Pupitar, and ends up with both as a Tyranitar. This is implied to be the result of her being at least partially inbred.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: According to WordOfGod at least part of Pica's behavior is due to feeling inferior due to not being good enough to be used by her original trainer despite her great power.
* MeaningfulName: Named after the disorder, which can include people eating rocks.
%%* TheRival: To Artemia.
* SecondPlaceIsForLosers: As she ''barely'' didn't make the cut despite being so powerful, it's given her a complex about being second best.

* TrashTalk: One of her favorite battle tactics is using Taunt and Torment.
* {{Tsundere}}: Pica's not exactly as mean as she seems, but she's certainly reluctant to show it.
* TookALevelInKindness: Over the course of the story she's become a far nicer Pokémon, though still locked in rivalry with Artemia.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Despite their bickering, Pica and Artemia are rarely apart from one another.

* InternetJerk: Is kind of an asshole when playing fighting games online.

* MortalityGreyArea: Hitodama is a Chandelure born of Satine, a regular Chandelure, and Lifealope, a Sawsbuck-shaped NatureSpirit closely related to Xerneas and considered their "brother". As a result of the unique circumstances of her birth, she's an odd existence living between life and death due to being half Ghost-type and half nature spirit. As a Litwick and Lampent this manifests in her leaving a wilted trail of flowers wherever she goes, but upon fully evolving she also gains a unique dark green color akin to a dying leaf.

Tagg's Wishiwashi.
----
* AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever: When she and Tagg first meet during the Brooklet Hill Trial on April Fools Day, she's been turned from a regular Wishiwashi into a giant one the size of a Schooling Wishiwashi via April Fools shenanigans. Once Tagg catches her, she turns back to normal when he sends her out.
* BoldInflation: While in Schooling Form, she speaks in '''bold text''' with ALL CAPS due to all the Wishiwashi talking at once.
* ShrinkingViolet: By herself, Legion's pretty shy, but it's subverted when she's part of a school as she becomes far more aggressive.

* StickyFingers: Yew has a particular love of robbing other mons and even humans dry.

* TheTease: Yew has no problems flirting with opponents in order to catch them off guard, and can use Attract to do so.
* WeakToFire: Having Fluffy for an Ability means Fire-type moves do extra damage to her due to extra flammable wool.

Tagg's Centiskorch, obtained at the Motostoke Gym.
----
* TheBerserker: Magtail's fighting style is generally to just constantly attack until her opponent stops moving, taking advantage of her ability to create a lower profile to dodge retaliatory attacks.
* CreepyCentipedes: Magtail is a Centiskorch, a centipede-based Pokémon, makes no bones about being a predator, and during Tagg's Gym Leader rematches attacks Raihan's Goodra in such a way that had this not been friendly competition, she probably would've started eating them.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: Burn Up is powerful but can only be used once and removes Magtail's Fire-type, but she and Tagg exploit this during the Galar Championship matches to eliminate her Water-type weakness, lessen her Rock-type weakness, and give her Ground-type resistance while using coverage moves for their battles against Nessa and Raihan, where her Fire-type attacks are not of much use against their Water and Dragon-types.
* DishingOutDirt: Can heat up the ground in order to use Scorching Sands.
* GreenThumb: Knows the Grass-type Power Whip for taking on the [[ScissorsCutsRock Water and Rock-types she's normally weak against.]]
* ShoutOut: Magtail is named after the fiery centipede enemies from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTheWindWaker'', though unlike them, she has both eyes.

Acquainted with the other PEFE researchers, and first met the group while tracking down Tracer and Tagg for a report on their activities. Had a fear of animals in their childhood, until Basket helped them get rid of it. "Cameos" on occasion.

* TheLeader: As Headmaster, they're overall head of the PEFE.
* GenderBending: Spends the Kalos arc as a girl thanks to Noir's machinations, which later helps them realize that they're non-binary.
* GuileHero: Tangent mainly uses their brains to solve their problems.
* HiddenDepths: Their mindscape trip reveals that they have fears of the PEFE eventually [[MeetTheNewBoss becoming as bad as Pokefutures]] who they toppled years before.

* {{Flight}} - Unsurprisingly, [[SeriousBusiness it means quite a bit to her.]] And her insecurities from learning to fly and later being grounded from a broken wing form the basis of a good deal of her initial character dynamics.

Umbramatic is a high priest of Giratina who's [[Really700YearsOld really 650 years old]] and had sealed himself in a temple to protect it... until he decided that since he's immortal and not gonna die anytime soon he would explore the world. Ghost types are naturally attracted to him, partially due to his life-force being an unlimited food source for some, as well as the Obscura infused into his body, and so he once specialized in training them. However, he has since expanded to include other types. He has shortish black hair and blue eyes. Was once the Ghost Lord of Spectra.

A 22 year old explorer from Johto, Wolf was introduced into the world of Pokémon at quite a young age, when his parents allowed him to keep a Vulpix he had bonded with while lost in the woods around Ecruteak City. At the age of 10, Wolf set out on his Pokémon journey with Vulpix in tow. After challenging and defeating the League, Wolf sought greater and greater challenges, eventually leading to him climbing to the peak of Mt. Silver. Wolf would continue to visit the famous mountain's summit until four years later, when a young trainer arrived after completing his own journey. Soon after this incident, Wolf was contracted by Steven Stone, and was trained in many areas, including combat, intelligence, and espionage. Stone, under the corrupting influence of 'M, brainwashed Wolf into becoming a member of his private army.

Recently, Wolf began receiving visions from Reshiram, which [[HeelRealization broke the hold Stone had over him]]. He joined up with the group in Unova, and helped take down his former master.

Since renouncing his former life, Wolf has fallen in love, been [[GenderBender genderbent]] (twice), caught several new Pokémon, [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking bought a book]], invented a device that allows trainers to communicate with their Pokémon inside their Pokeballs, been FreakyFridayFlip-ed, and befriended a Latias. Since Wolf is no longer a trainer, preferring a life of adventure to one of challenging Gyms, and is not registered with any Pokémon League, he is not bound by the six Pokémon rule, although he still keeps some Pokémon in a PC Box.

* TheBusCameBack: After not being around from late Holon to Kalos, he returns to the J-Team in Almia during Ranger-2.

* GenderBender: Spent several days as a girl after the events of Twist Mountain.
* HeelFaceTurn: After receiving visions from Reshiram and the Unown.
* LockedIntoStrangeness: While it has been mentioned that others in the group dye their hair spectacular colours, Wolf's is a natural consequence of being born in Ecruteak City, where the aura of the nearby Legendary Pokémon can have strange effects.
* SingleTargetSexuality: Has admitted to only being interested in DS.

----

* AloofDarkHairedGirl : She has dark hair and she is quite aloof when talking to someone she doesn't know.
* DeadpanSnarker : She usually does this whenever someone says something pretty obvious.
-->'''Yukari:''' Ah yes, let’s have you and Kiel get paralyzed by her pokèmon. Surely, that won’t go wrong.

A 23 year old Trainer from Kalos, though he spent his childhood in Unova. At first looking into the history of his family and their connection to the Kalosian War, he helped stop a murdering spree by a mad Ghost-Type Trainer. First got in contact with the J-Team when they had to defend their new airship, and is now focused on the battle against Illusion.
------

* {{Determinator}} : He survives the assault of an Obscura-user and his Ghost Pokemon for well over an hour. When his friends arrived, he decided that possibly crippling injuries weren't going to keep him from dealing the final blow.
* AnIcePerson : Ramon the Delibird.
* DishingOutDirt : Valkyrie the Rhyhorn and Sasori the Gligar.
* GoodIsNotSoft : He's generally nice and would rather relax with his Pokemon, doesn't keep him from leaving a man that was possibly manipulated by Ghosts in an underground jail for being a mass murderer.
* GreenThumb : His Quilladin, Eiffel.
* MakingASplash : His Wartortle, Leonardo.
* PlayingWithFire : Has a Pansear named Salsa.
* SixthRanger : His self-appointed position in the J-Team.

[[folder: Zeal/Zachary Motte]]
-->Played by: {{Tropers/AZealousIndividual}}

A trainer from Cianwood City who joined the J-Team in Olivine during Kanjoh-2. He's constantly searching for Fajro, his Quilava. The two were separated two years prior to Zeal's first appearance.

During Unova-2, it was revealed that Zeal is not the original Zachary Motte, and that the original Zach gave Zeal control so he could forget about Chase Espen, his cousin.

After a whole lot of MindScrew and SplitPersonality shenanigans, most of Zeal's background still doesn't make a lot of sense.

!!These tropes apply to Zeal or all of his aspects:

* BrotherSisterTeam: With Lanie on more than one occasion.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: When it comes to almost anything. He actually ''is'' a lawyer, too, and his quirks are just as frequent in those situations.
* CharacterTics: Simply grins all the time.
%%* CloudCuckooLander: To some extent.
* DitzyGenius: Though not to the same extent as his sister.
* HappilyFailedSuicide: Tries to kill himself, but it doesn't work.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: His main character arc takes place mostly independently of the rest of the J-Team.
* EyeColourChange: When Zeal switches personalities, his eyes change color. Zeal's eyes are green, Zach's are blue, and [=RedEyes'=] are [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin red.]]
* EyeScream: Loses his left eye during the Orre arc.
* SplitPersonality: Has a bunch of them.
* '''{{Troll}}:''' He's been called the "King of Trolls" before. Zach and [=RedEyes=] are also trolls to some extent, but they're much more subtle about it than Zeal is.

!!These tropes apply to the original Zachary Motte:

* BerserkButton: Do not mention Chase Espen. Jacob doing this leads to the DisproportionateRetribution moment below.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Pulls a gun on Jacob and shoots at him when he brings up Chase Espen, even though the two are in a courthouse at the time.
* SmartPeoplePlayChess: He's generally cleverer than Zeal, and makes reference to chess on occasion. At one point he challenges Jacob to a game of crazyhouse.
* TheStoic: Much more serious and emotionless than Zeal.

!!These tropes apply to Zeal's red-eyed aspect:

* BladeSpam: Combined with TeleportSpam when battling Jacob in Zeal's mindscape.
* DualWielding: Dual wields swords in the mindscape battle. Even then, more float behind him.
%%* EnemyWithin: To Zeal.
* FlyingWeapon: His swords in the mindscape battle.
* ImprovisedWeapon: He's fond of these. Notable examples occur in both his battles with Jacob, in which he uses a Razor Claw to carve an "X" into Jacobs face and surrounds Jacob with the gears from Zeal's mindscape in an attempt to drown him.
* NotSoStoic: During his mindscape battle with Jacob.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Easily the most dangerous of Zeal's aspects. His eyes are red.
%%* SlasherSmile: The few times he ''does'' smile.
%%* TheStoic: Even moreso than Zach.
* StormOfBlades: Does this more than once in his mindscape battle with Jacob.
* SummonToHand: His swords in the mindscape battle.
* TeleportSpam: Combined with BladeSpam when battling Jacob in Zeal's mindscape.
* TimeMaster: He reveals that his ultimate wish is to control time.
* TranquilFury: When he's angry, he's usually unnervingly calm about it.
* UnstoppableRage: When Jacob just doesn't give up, [[NotSoStoic he abandons his emotionless behavior in favor of this.]]
* VillainousBreakdown: Has one of these when Jacob and Zach stop him from getting his wish from Jirachi.
