6* [[spoiler:DeadAllAlong: They are all long dead since the beginning of the first game and understanding this is one of the fundamental mysteries of the series.]]
7* TheWorfEffect: During fantasy sequences, most of them gain or display incredible skills that allow them to stand up to the otherwise invincible demons and witches they face. Despite this, they are still easily eliminated. Here are some examples:
8** Kumasawa, Eva, Maria and Kinzo all have fantasy counterparts that are as powerful and dangerous as Beatrice, and sometimes they can transform into them at will. Outside of the games in which moderate attention is paid to said counterparts, they are completely helpless and succumb to other supernatural beings, just like the other human characters. For instance, Maria cannot tap into her Creator Witch powers in [=EP3=] to defend herself and Rosa from EVA-Beatrice, and in [=EP4=] Goldsmith!Kinzo dies in ''seconds'' the moment Beatrice gets tired of him, despite the threat he poses to the human cast.
9** Characters who don't have a witch counterpart often develop some sort of supernatural power that can increase their natural fighting abilities, and allow them to easily cope with witches and their furniture. This does not spare them from undergoing a hideously brutal CurbStompBattle in following episodes. The best example of this is Rosa: In [=EP2=], she is capable of taking on an infinite army of island-devouring goats with nothing but a Winchester, a gold ingot, and a fountain pen, yet finds herself completely defenseless and overwhelmed by the power of the Meta-World beings in subsequent games.
