[[folder:In General]]
The entire group shares these traits:
* DimensionalTraveler: They travel together to look for Sakura's feathers with help of Mokona. By the end of the series, [[spoiler:this becomes a permanent job title for Fai, Kurogane and the real Syaoran]].
* GangOfHats: Unknowingly to them, they all share the interesting trait of not being who their names suggest. [[spoiler:Sakura and Syaoran are actually clones of the original ones, Fai is the twin brother of the original Fai, Mokona Modoki is a copy of the original Mokona, and Kurogane's name is not his real name.]]
* HeroicSafeMode: [[spoiler:R Syaoran]], Kurogane and Fai have one when [[spoiler:C Syaoran is destroyed.]]
* ItsPersonal: Even Mokona kind of gets this.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: All their actions only help the BigBad accelerate his plans even further.
* TrueCompanions: The group members all care about each other, even the aloof Kurogane.
* TwoGirlsToATeam: Since the White Mokona is confirmed to be female, therefore the group is composed of three guys and two girls.
* UnwittingPawn: They are all part of a big scheme. ''Some'' of them know more than others, though.

Syaoran is a young archeologist who is in love with Sakura, his childhood friend and the princess from the Kingdom of Clow. When Sakura's memories are scattered throughout parallel dimensions, Syaoran goes on a quest to recover them, giving all of Sakura's memories involving him as a payment to travel.

Crossover character from Manga/CardcaptorSakura.
----
%%* ActionDad: [[spoiler:With a proper bloodline, Syaoran inherited an insane amount of magic that can reverse the magic of Fei-Wang]]
* AdventurerArchaeologist: In addition to his skills as a fighter, he is also an archaeologist, having took up his father's dreams to become one.
* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: His entire journey is about collecting the feathers in order to bring back Sakura's memories
* AllYourPowersCombined: In the anime with Kurogane and in the manga with [[spoiler:C Sakura, R Syaoran and Fai to stop Fai Wang's chaos]]
* AncestralWeapon: The sword that [[spoiler:R Syaoran wields is actually C Syaoran's legacy as a result of the loop he created.]] The magic sword Hien, meanwhile, is a reference to the manga ''X'' and is taken by [[spoiler:R Syaoran following the clone's disappearance]]
* ArtificialHuman: [[spoiler:He's actually a clone created by Fei Wong to collect Sakura's feathers. See below for more elaboration.]]
* BadassNormal: At first he is the most normal fighter of the group as does not possess magic or sword arts like Fai and Kurogane and employs a hand-to-hand style instead.
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler: Except not really, since he was a clone so he couldn't die, he only disappeared, or in this case, reincarnated before disappearing completely, and then disappeared for real from the entire space-time continuum of the multiverse.]]
* BattleCouple: [[spoiler:After their reincarnation, he and his wife C Sakura spend 14 years in a time capsule to pull a BigDamnHeroes in the final battle to protect their son and defeat Fei Wong.]]
* BigNo: Dub only. When [[spoiler:Sakura explodes in front of him.]]
* BloodSplatteredWarrior: Probably the only way to differentiate him from [[spoiler:R Syaoran.]]
* BroughtDownToBadass: [[spoiler:In Mirai Kanai he loses Clow's magic, Fai's magic, Hien but is able to fight hand to hand until R Syaoran breaks him with his own magic.]]
* BrokenRecord: In the second half of the series he keeps repeating over and over [[spoiler:"I must get the feathers no matter what"]]
* CameBackStrong: [[spoiler:While he was already strong, the magic he inherits from Clow Reed upon reviving is downright GodSueMode]]
* CannibalismSuperpower: [[spoiler:He obtains Fai's magic gouging out the latter's eye and consuming it.]]
* CharacterDevelopment: At first he is willing to sacrifice everything he has to save Sakura even though he sees himself unfit for her. As time goes on, he realizes that being hurt also hurts Sakura so he tells Ashura he will not lose his life. [[spoiler:After being stabbed by Fei Wang, Syaoran accepts to stay with Sakura regardless of how unfit he is.]]
* ChastityCouple: With Sakura. For all the trouble Syaoran goes through to save Sakura, a peck on the cheek is as close to a kiss as they're ever going to get. [[spoiler:They do get married and produce Tsubasa/R Syaoran after their reincarnation.]]
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: With Sakura. He has been in love with Sakura since childhood and she reciprocates, but he doesn't dare to take it to the next level because of their [[UptownGirl social class difference]].
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Brown hair and eyes.
* DeclarationOfProtection: He always says he will protect Sakura.
* CurbStompBattle: In Clow [[spoiler:He easily defeat R Syaoran, Fai, and Kurogane with the stronger magic he developed.]]
** In ''Mirai Kanai Hen'' [[spoiler:it is R Syaoran who beats him up until destroying the area as the clone forced the original to fight against him despite lacking magic.]]
* DeathEqualsRedemption: [[spoiler:He begs forgiveness to his friends when being destroyed. Fai and Kurogane are are sad instead claiming they only wanted him back]]
%%* DecoyProtagonist: During the Tokyo Revelations arc, [[spoiler:the real Syaoran takes up the mantle.]]
* {{Determinator}}: Is he ever. There is ''nothing'' that is going to stop him from saving Sakura and returning her feathers.
%%* DisappearedDad [[spoiler:To Watanuki. He is also this to R Syaoran in the ending.]]
%%* DynamicEntry: Early in the series his ambush is so surprising that maybe Might Guy was his trainer.
* DiedInYourArmsTonight: [[spoiler: He first disappears in R Syaoran's arms.]]
* EmptyShell: There was something weird about him as a kid. [[spoiler:It is later revealed at that time he had a small heart which R Syaoran gave him.]]
* {{Expy}}: Of Syaoran Li of course. Also, not only he shares [[Franchise/KingdomHearts Sora]]'s physical traits but also the same voice actor.
* ExtremityExtremist: Fights extensively with kicks; later revealed that this is to compensate for his poor depth perception due to being blind in one eye.
* LiterallyShatteredLives: After [[spoiler:being impaled by Fei-Wang Reed for his betrayal, his body explodes into pieces leaving only Fai's eye.]]
%%* FaceHeelTurn: In Tokyo.
* FightingYourFriend: Because of [[spoiler:Fei Wang's power and later even on his own will Mirai Kanai when forcing R Syaoran to face him despite having already made peace.]]
* FireForgedFriends: A friendlier variation with Ryuho. The friendship is so strong that Syaoran easily befriends the Ryuho from another dimension while driving.
%%* ForcedIntoEvil: [[spoiler: The removal of R Syaoran's soul returns him back into Fei Wang's control]].
%%* FreakOut: When he accidentally [[spoiler:kills the clone Sakura, just as she tells him that she loves him.]]
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: When taking [[spoiler:Fai's eye.]]
%%* HappilyAdopted: By Fujitaka Kinomoto.
* HeelFaceTurn: In the original Clow Country, [[spoiler: when he gave up his life to kill Fei Wang]].
* TheHero: He's this through the first half of the series. The story follows him in his journey to recover the memories of the girl he loves while he adventures into different worlds with his TrueCompanions and helps others along the way. Then the Tokyo arc comes...
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:C Syaoran disappeared to get Watanuki and R Syaoran out of the void Fei Wang Reed created.]]
* HowMuchMoreCanHeTake: Lampshaded. [[spoiler: Since he lost his heart, Syaoran doesn't feel wounds and will fight even with a broken arm.]]
* IdealHero: During the first half Syaoran makes friends everywhere and becomes stronger. However, on the second half...
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: Subverted when Seishiro just impales Syaoran's PC. [[spoiler: He is then impaled for real in Clow by Fei Wang]].
* InsecureLoveInterest: He tends to think a mere archeologist is not worthy to be with a princess like Sakura.
* InvincibleVillain: [[spoiler: When he became into a soulless automaton of Fei Wang, C Syaoran won all three of his fights against [[FailureHero R Syaoran]]. If he had not gained a heart before his victory in the original Clow Country, the Tsubasa gang would have lost]].
* KatanasAreJustBetter: Especially if they come with magic.
* LikeFatherLikeSon:[[spoiler:Hinted by Seisiro and Yuko so much tht when he returns to his teenage persona, that there is nothing differentiating the duo.]]
* KidHero: At first glance he looks like a quite normal kid, but he is soon revealed to be a Badass.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvLr8CQXfwg A Song of Storm and Fire]]
* LoveConfession: [[spoiler:To C Sakura when being remade]]
* MagicalEye: [[spoiler: He consumes Fai's left eye to obtain its magical powers. As a result, his right eye turns blue.]]
%%* MagicKnight: [[spoiler: Become this once he gained Fai's magical powers]].
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: His face really yells that when he [[spoiler:destroys Sakura's soul]].
* MyOwnGrampa: [[spoiler: Reincarnated as the real Syaoran's father.]]
* NiceGuy: He is polite, selfless, and is willing to help others in time of need.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: [[spoiler:When losing his heart, he has no problems in beating up enemies to the point he first takes down a lion guardian and then takes one of Kamui's arms.]]
* NoOntologicalInertia: [[spoiler:Disappears after Fei Wang Reed's death; Yuuko and Clow paid the price to get him and C Sakura into the cycle of reincarnation.]]
* NotSoStoic: While [[spoiler:he loses all his emotions while fighting Kamui, the second Sakura tries to keep him *close to her, Syaoran starts showing doubts but ultimately leaves]].
* OlderThanHeLooks: [[spoiler:He Might look like a teen in the final fight, but he is actually an adult who reverted his and Sakura's look]]
* PapaWolf: [[spoiler: When he is reincarnated, he along with his wife is willing to spend 14 years in a time capsule just to help his real son]].
* PassingTheTorch: [[spoiler:He gives R Syaoran his jian and name in the time paradox in which he has become his father.]]
* PlayingWithFire: He uses fire attacks from the sword Hien.
* RecurringDreams: He often dreams about somebody who looks like him...
* ReincarnateInAnotherWorld: [[spoiler:After dying, C Syaoran reincarnates in the past of the Manga/XxxHolic universe along with C Sakura.]]
* ReincarnationRomance: [[spoiler: After he and C Sakura die, Yuuko allows them to reincarnate in the past of the Manga/XxxHolic universe. There they are reunited and give birth to the original Syaoran.]]
* SecondLove: By all technicalities, he is this to Sakura's POV as she no longer remembers him when they were children so to her, he is simply someone she just met upon waking up who desires to restore her own memories. Presumably, she moved on and married together when they were reincarnated.
* ShirtlessScene: More of a FanDisservice [[spoiler:considering he is all covered in blood when he betrays his friends and later in a chapter cover and one of Fuma's flashbacks.]]
* SpreeKiller: [[spoiler:While we never Syaoran killing people, in some scenes where Fei Wang and Fuma mention his actions, he seems to be standing between corpses in ruined areas.]]
* SpamAttack: He [[spoiler:can freely use Fai's magic]].
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: The issue is should we follow the furigana (Syaoran), apply the pinyin pronunciation of the kanji (Xiaolang), or use Cantonese (Siulong) due to his heritage?
* SpinAttack: His kicks. It's not as over the top as the one from another of Clamp's characters, [[Anime/CodeGeass Suzaku.]]
* StarCrossedLovers: [[spoiler:With C Sakura. It took them one reincarnation to finally get together, and even then, to save their son/his original version, they have to de-age themselves and spend years in a tube, one glass wall apart from each other. And in the end, they both disappear as Fei Wang's creations cannot exist after his death.]]
* TheCameo: in ''xxxHolic'' whenever the series connect though the most important one is [[spoiler:Syaoran and Sakura appear to comfort their son Watanuki when he nearly dies.]]
* TheStoic: As a kid he was this until meeting Sakura. Then in Tokyo [[spoiler:he becomes stoic once again when being controlled by Fei Wang.]]
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: [[spoiler:When losing his Heart.]]
* TakingTheBullet: Took a stab from Fei Wang in what would have killed the [[spoiler: Real Syaoran]].
* TragicHero: In the end, no matter how much feathers he will have successfully gathered for Sakura's memories, he will always be burdened by the fact that she will never remember him before the start of their journey.
* UndyingLoyalty: Even if he is not remembered by Sakura, he will fight for her sake.
* UnskilledButStrong: His fighting style is too straigth forward to compensate for his poor defense brought by his low vision.
* YoungerThanHeLooks: [[spoiler:He was created as a seven year old kid.]]
* WorldsStrongestMan: [[spoiler:Upon being reborn, both he and C Sakura inherit the magic Clow Reed and Yuuko. Fei Wang is especially shocked because he is actually wielding Clow Reed's magic who is recognized in the Clamp verse as the strongest sorcerer]]

Sakura is a princess from the Kingdom of Clow who has her memories separated from her body to parallel dimensions in the form of feathers. All of her memories of Syaoran are completely erased to enable him to travel across the worlds to find her feathers.

Crossover character from ''Manga/CardcaptorSakura''.
----
* ActionGirl: During the second half of the Tokyo Arc.
* AdaptationDyeJob: She has red-tinted hair in the manga, but is something between a brunette and a bleached blonde in the anime.
%%* AllLovingHero:%%
* AmnesiacLover: As a payment to travel throughout dimensions, Sakura will never be able to remember Syaoran as her beloved childhood friend.
* ArtificialHuman: [[spoiler: Revealed to be a clone just as much as Syaoran.]]
* BackFromTheDead: Just like Syaoran above.
* BattleCouple: [[spoiler:Pulls a BigDamnHeroes along with her husband reincarnated C Syaoran during the final battle so they can help their son defeat Fei Wang.]]
* BornLucky: Played straight and lampshaded when [[GenreSavvy Fai]] uses her luck to ensure they have money by entering Sakura in gambling games in Spirit. [[spoiler: Sakura's luck is later used as part of a price paid to Yuuko for a wish.]]
* BreakTheCutie: Imagine that every time you regain your memories, there is always that one person that is missing from your memories. And no matter how much you try to remember this person, some sort of deal will negate any attempts to remember this person. It's not just Syaoran who is in pain of being unable to make the person remember you but even the amnesiac girl is just as, or even more in pain than him. [[spoiler: Or try the CerebusSyndrome version when the person who protected you, and the person you were in love with, ended up being a clone and ruthlessly wounds your loved ones after he lost his heart]]. No wonder she lost all of her genki traits that her orignal version had; its because fate seems always to be against her.
* BrokenBird: Becomes one around the Infinity Arc. [[spoiler:Watching the person you love lose his heart and ruthlessly wound your friends]] does something to your personality.
* CanNotSpitItOut: A unique take on an older trope. The Dimension Witch's price for helping Sakura and Syaoran was their past relationship. Any time Sakura realizes her past feelings for Syaoran and tries to tell him, her memory of that is instantly removed, resulting in several {{Un Confession}}s.
* ChastityCouple: With Syaoran. [[spoiler:However, they do get married and produce Tsubasa/R Syaoran after their reincarnation.]]
* CherryBlossomGirl: But besides her name which correlates to her original counterpart, she bears no references to cherry blossoms whatsoever.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: With Syaoran. She has been friends with him since childhood and has loved him for a very long time. After she loses her memories, Syaoran has to pay the price that Sakura won't be able to remember their past relationship, but she falls in love with him again anyway.
* DamselInDistress: A few times, and it peters out about the Infinity Arc... though someone will usually make an attempt on capturing her at some point.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Swaps with Syaoran as her role in Tsubasa.
* DontCallMeSir: She has been trying to talk Syaoran out of calling her "Your Highness" (and addressing her formally) ever since they were little kids - to no avail.
* DreamingOfThingsToCome: We never see her prediction dreams but this is how she managed to create a gambit that surprises even Fei Wang.
* DyingDeclarationOfLove: Subverted. [[spoiler: Before disappearing she tries to confess to C Syaoran, but vanishes before saying it. She manages to say it before they get reincarnated, though.]]
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Tomoyo does, at least.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Or even to not-living things.
* GenkiGirl: Initially before she loses her memories, she seems to be as cheerful and happy as her [[Manga/CardCaptorSakura original counterpart]] as shown in the beginning when she glomps Syaoran immediately after he came back from work, asking multitudes of question along the way. But following her memory loss, she becomes reserved and quiet, lacking any of her personality that she has when she was younger. It all culminates in the second half when she becomes a BrokenBird, becoming even more reserved and quiet and rarely smile at anyone who is not Mokona.
* HairAntennae: She has two strands of hair that stick up from the top of her head.
* HairIntakes: Her hair has two intakes that look like cat ears.
* IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight: [[spoiler:She tries to make Syaoran recover his will from Fei Wang but barely makes him hesitate in the Tokyo OVA. In the Dream World, she succeeds at the cost of her soul.]]
* ISeeDeadPeople: Is able to see spirits who are suffering.
* ItsAllMyFault: Blames herself for [[spoiler:C Syaoran's massacre as he is searching for the feathers]].
* KillTheCutie: [[spoiler: In the end, she dies when she took the stab C Syaoran and never managed to say the words before her death.]]
* TheLoad: She's a pretty straight example in the first half of the series. She's the pretty princess and the love interest of TheHero who is there to be protected by her companions and be the one keeping them together. Later, in Infinity arc, once a certain member of the group has left, she arguably becomes TheHeroine and (literally) TheChessmaster.
* LovedByAll: It only takes her mentioning she likes apples for her to be presented with a bunch of them the next time she's in town. This also extends to most people she meets in her travels.
* MagicalBarefooter: Her dream self appears this way, presumably because she is shown in her night wear.
* MamaBear: [[spoiler: Abandons her entire life and spends 14 years in a capsule all to protect her own son]].
* NeutralFemale: Almost always at first.
* NiceGirl: Very caring, polite and always happy to be helpful.
* NoOntologicalInertia: [[spoiler:Disappears because of Fei Wang Reed's death; Yuuko and Clow pay the price to get her and C Syaoran into the cycle of reincarnation.]]
* PleaseDontLeaveMe: She pleads [[spoiler:C Syaoran]] to not go when [[spoiler:he is about to defect from the group]] in the Tokyo arc. It doesn't work and he leaves anyway, which breaks Sakura.
* PluckyGirl: She might be cute and painfully sweet, but Sakura's got spunk- and she proves it once things go down in Acid Tokyo.
* {{Protectorate}}: To Syaoran.
* ReincarnateInAnotherWorld: [[spoiler:After their deaths, she and C Syaoran reincarnate in the past of the Manga/XxxHolic universe.]]
* ReincarnationRomance: [[spoiler: After she and C Syaoran die, Yuuko allows them to reincarnate in the past of the Manga/XxxHolic universe. There they are reunited and give birth to the original Syaoran.]]
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Her love for Syaoran comes from his good heart and his determination to protect her from anything. [[spoiler:Watching him become a heartless puppet at Fei Wong's orders clearly breaks Sakura's heart.]]
* StarCrossedLovers: [[spoiler:With C Syaoran. It took them one reincarnation to finally get together, and even then, to save their son/her husband's original version, they have to de-age themselves and spend years in a tube, one glass wall apart from each other. And in the end, they both disappear as Fei Wang's creations cannot exist after his death.]]
* TakingTheBullet: [[spoiler: She disappears for the first time after shielding the original Syaoran from an attack of C Syaoran.]]
* TheApprentice:: To Kurogane and Seishiro who teach him how to fight.
* TookALevelInBadass: After the latter parts of the Tokyo arc, but the result is that while she is more capable, it has rather heartbreaking BrokenBird connotations.
* UptownGirl: Sakura is a princess and she's in love with Syaoran, a commoner archeologist of her kingdom.
* YoungerThanSheLooks: [[spoiler: The original version of this Sakura was created as a seven year old kid when R Syaoran rewound time. ''This'' Sakura herself is a clone created in the plot-triggering feather-scattering incident by Fei Wang.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kurogane]]
!!Kurogane [[spoiler:/Yōō/Haganemaru]]
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/TV_Tropes_-_Kurogane_7467.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/TetsuInada (JP), Creator/ChristopherSabat (EN), Creator/YumikoKobayashi (JP, young), Creator/LuciChristian (EN, young), Creator/AlfredoMartinez (SP, series), Óscar Muñoz (SP, movie)

Kurogane is a rough-mannered ninja from the world of Japan, who is sent away from his world by Princess Tomoyo in order to have him discover his true strength. He gives up his sword Ginryū as payment to Yuuko in exchange for traveling through dimensions and get back home.
----
* AdaptationNameChange: In the anime, is true name is not [[spoiler:Yōō]], but [[spoiler:Haganemaru.]]
* ArtificialLimbs: [[spoiler:Ends up getting one after sacrificing his left arm to save Fai in Celes. In a subversion of the usual pattern, it is NOT a perfect replacement and causes him pain.]]
* BadassCape: Wears one of these in his default ninja outfit.
* BattleCouple: With Fai. They always fight together and have a knowledge of the other's fighting style that is astonishing.
* BerserkButton: Several, Fai's cutesy nicknames being the most obvious.
** He reacts extremely badly to anyone who chooses to give up on life, particularly when it's Fai.
** He also has a thing about people being eaten alive by monsters, since [[spoiler:that was how his father died.]]
** ''Touch'' his family. [[GoodParents Really,]] [[LadyAndKnight any]] [[BattleCouple of]] [[PapaWolf them]]. Just try. [[spoiler:Kurogane kills some pretty powerful major antagonists who dared to.]]
* BerserkerRage: There's a ''reason'' Tomoyo-hime worried about Kurogane becoming an unstoppable murdering machine. [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge It's happened before]], when [[spoiler:his mother was killed before his eyes and his father eaten by demons, due to FWR's machinations. The Imperial Army was sent to stop ''one [[BerserkerTears grieving]] boy''. They died too.]]
* BerserkerTears: Happens during [[spoiler: the flashback of his childhood in Recourt, when his parents were murdered and Suwa burned.]]
* BloodKnight: Has shades of this early on, due to his obsession with strength, but is more balanced by the end of the series.
* BreakTheCutie: He was a sweet, happy child when he was younger...[[spoiler: until his mother got sick and was murdered by Fei Wang Reed, his father was eaten by demons, and his home was razed to the ground, causing an [[BerserkerTears breakdown]] of [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge epic proportions.]]]]
* ChildhoodFriends: With Tomoyo.
%%* TheComicallySerious%%
* DarkAndTroubledPast: While Kurogane had a mostly happy childhood, everything precious he had was ripped from him in one horrible day. By the time Tomoyo finds him, he's almost driven to madness due to the grief.
* {{Determinator}}: Once Kurogane makes up his mind about something, nothing and no one will stop him from going through with it. [[spoiler: Fai learns this the hard way, in Tokyo, with Kurogane's decision to save his life against his will.]] And again in Celes when [[spoiler: Kurogane willingly cuts off his own arm to get Fai out alive.]] Now that's [[HoYay determination]] at its finest.
* DopeSlap: He will ''punch out'' anyone that does something he thinks is stupid, usually being too self-sacrificing. Given [[DysfunctionJunction the nature of this group]], it happens often. So often, actually, that Fai picks up on the habit.
* {{Expy}}: With his fighting style, his background and unfriendly personality he has shades of Zoro from ''Manga/OnePiece''. Complete with the same [[Creator/ChristopherSabat English VA]].
* HairContrastDuo: Fai and Kurogane's dynamic initially plays off like this; he is the moody, cynical brunet to Fai's ditzy light-hearted blond. Subverted when Fay's personality is actually much darker than it initially seems.
* HandicappedBadass: [[spoiler: Cuts off his own arm to save Fai's life, and drags the mage out of a collapsing dimension ''one-handed'' while blood pours down his side. Loss of a limb in no way diminishes the [[HeroicSacrifice badassedness]] of the moment.]]
* HeroicSacrifice: Non-fatally, though it could have easily killed him as he [[spoiler:sacrificed his left arm to save Fai's life]].
* HeyYou: Other than Tomoyo, Kurogane never calls anyone by name, usually 'kid' for Syaoran, 'princess' for Sakura, 'mage' for Fai, and 'white meat bun' for Mokona.
* HighlyVisibleNinja: Probably too badass to be anything else.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Tomoyo is barely half his height.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: Implied to have this when he knocks a crossbow bolt aimed at Syaoran out of the air ''with a small stone'' and acts as if it was nothing out of the ordinary. Probably comes with being a Badass Puppy {{Ninja}}.
* InSeriesNickname: Mostly by Fai and sometimes Mokona: Kuro-tan, Kuro-pin, Kuro-run, Kuro-rin, Kuro-pu, Kuro-chi, Kuro-wanwan, [[TeamDad Kuro-daddy or just Daddy]], Big Puppy and many, [[RunningGag ''many'' more]]. Interestingly enough, most of the suffix based nicknames that Fai gives him are cutesy, girly nicknames that Japanese schoolgirls give one another in an effort to appear cute- hence his [[BerserkButton aggravation]].
** In the English dub, we get ''Kurgyburger''.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Would probably like to believe he's not a NiceGuy at heart.
* LadyAndKnight: Knight to Tomoyo's Lady, in an arrogant sorta way.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M69cSolmETA Break the Sword of Justice]]. One should probably note that this and Fai's "Strange Names" are probably the only themes of the series that are completely separated from the normal style the soundtrack has going on.
* LifeOrLimbDecision: [[spoiler: He sacrifices his arm to save Fai.]]
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: As a fanfiction puts it, anyone who [[spoiler:hacks off his own arm]] without batting an eye is fucking hardcore.
* MoralityChain: Honestly? The only reason Fai's not gone off the deep end and turned into an all out villain is probably that Kurogane kept dragging him back.
* MrFanservice: He's TallDarkAndHandsome and cool as a cucumber.
* NearDeathExperience: A conveniently-timed one allows Tomoyo-hime to tell him [[spoiler:how to get Fai out of Celes]].
* {{Ninja}}: Interestingly, he resembles more a samurai, as he favours frontal attack, uses certainly more strength than stealth, and specializes in swordfighting and little more. However, he is sometimes seen on the roofs at night as every good ninja has to be seen, and some of his fighting poses evokes the classic ninja stances.
* OneHeadTaller: Than Fai, who isn't exactly short either.
* PerpetualFrowner: Spends most of his time scowling. [[SlasherSmile Not so much]] when he's [[BloodKnight fighting]], though...
* PowerLimiter: The "{{curse}}" Tomoyo places on Kurogane which will decrease his strength if he kills anyone. This is subverted because [[spoiler:we find out after Celes that it's really a [[ProtectiveCharm protection charm]] and the stuff about his strength diminishing was a prophecy about the consequences of killing Ashura.]]
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Certainly appears to be the most morally ambiguous of the heroes at first glance, but inverted as you started to realize he's the most grounded among them.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: For the first few chapters he seems to be playing this straight, but it's ultimately subverted. [[spoiler:He's actually the ''only'' member of the team who isn't a spy]]
* SarcasticDevotee: Oh so much. He tends to make snide comments to whatever Fai and Mokona say.
* ScarsAreForever: He has a scar on his left hand from the night his parents were killed and his home destroyed. [[spoiler:He carries the scar with him until he ''cuts off his arm'' to save Fay from his SuperpowerMeltdown.]]
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Manly Man to Fay's Sensitive Guy.
* ShipTease: With Fay... all the time and everywhere.
* SlasherSmile: Sports one from time to time, especially when he's fighting.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Really resembles his father.
* TameHisAnger: His inability to keep it in check is why Tomoyo sends him away in the first place. Thanks to his TrueCompanions, Kurogane eventually mellows out and learns to control himself better.
* TeamDad: Has this title applied by Fai unwillingly, but it fits surprisingly well, especially by the end of the Infinity Arc.
* {{Tsundere}}: Even with his grumpy persona, he shows himself to be capable of surprising gentleness. His tsundere tendencies are mostly reserved for [[HoYay Fay]].
* UndyingLoyalty:
** He may sometimes go against her orders, but Kurogane is utterly devoted to Tomoyo.
** Also, to his TrueCompanions. He would do anything to keep them safe, even leave his princess ''again''. Though, given his personality and actions, he wouldn't die for them if there was another way because then he would have to leave them unprotected.
* UnstoppableRage: [[spoiler:With the death of both parents in one night, he picks up his family's sword, [[RoaringRampageofRevenge wipes out ALL the demons in sheer rage]] before Amaterasu and co. arrives to deal with them (who he mostly trashes as well). And ever since then he's super capable of handling multiple enemies at once.]]
* UsedToBeASweetKid: As a child he was adorably idealistic and innocent. Then his parents were killed by a horde of demons and sweet Kurogane turned into a bloodthirsty BloodKnight.
* VitriolicBestBuds: [[{{Tsundere}} He'll deny it to his dying breath]] but for all his yelling, cursing and chasing he cares ''[[HoYay deeply]]'' about Fai.
* YouKilledMyMother: [[spoiler:Kurogane learns Fei Wang was the one who killed his mother, for which he vows to kill him. Kurogane gains his revenge by delivering the fatal blow to Fei Wang in the final battle.]]

Fai is a powerful magician from the country of Celes. He travels to Yuuko on his own accord after making his king Ashura-ō fall asleep. He wishes never to return to his country, so he gives up a tattoo on his back in exchange for Mokona to travel through dimensions.
----
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: [[spoiler:The birth of twins was seen as a bad omen in Valeria country, which caused Fai/Yuui and his twin brother to be hated and blamed for all the misfortunes that befell on the country. Since the king decided that making them unhappy was the only way to break the "curse", the twins were imprisoned at the bottom and top of a tower.]]
* AmbiguouslyBi: Shows attraction to women a few times earlier on in the series but his focus seems to be on Kurogane.
* AngstySurvivingTwin: [[spoiler:Fei Wang tampered with Fai/Yuui's memory to make him think that he had chosen to save himself at the cost of his twin brother's life, allowing Fei Wang to use Fai/Yuui's guilt in order to turn him into his servant under the promise that he could bring his brother back to life.]]
* BattleCouple: With Kurogane. Even with their problems during the Infinity Arc, they're still back-to-back.
* BecomingTheMask: [[spoiler:It is revealed that Fai has secretly been working as TheMole for Fei Wang in an attempt to resurrect his twin brother and has been misleading the group the entire time. However, he eventually develops a genuine affection for his comrades and undergoes a HeelFaceTurn just prior to TheReveal.]]
* BeneathTheMask: His cheery, laughing mask is dropped altogether for his inner personality following the events of Acid Tokyo. Also has shades of BecomingTheMask, where Fai himself mentions that acting the way he did around the children became natural and instinctual.
* BerserkButton: For someone so easy going, he has quite a few of them. He's extremely protective of everyone in the main group, especially Sakura. The Celes arc shows what happens when you push his buttons too hard. [[spoiler:Ashura-ou deliberately endangered first C Sakura, then R Syaoran, and finally Kurogane so as to send Fai into a [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge murderous rage]] that would have resulted in a [[NoHoldsBarredBeatDown beat down]] of epic proportions if Fai hadn't been magically-crippled by the loss of one of his eyes and half his magic.]]
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Always smiling? Check. Always joking? Check. Takes nothing serious? Check. Provides most of the [[PluckyComicRelief Comic Relief]]? Check. Extremely powerful magic and extensive close combat and weapon training? Double Check. Conclusion: Do not, I repeat, ''do not'' threaten the people he loves or he'll [[LetsGetDangerous make you regret it]].
* BreakTheCutie: His backstory.
%%* BrokenBird
* CantLiveWithoutYou: [[spoiler:After his transformation into a vampire, he can't literally live without Kurogane's blood.]]
%%* CatSmile
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Holy ''crap'' this guy has had it bad! [[spoiler:He's lived his entire childhood trapped in a tower with his twin brother, the real Fai, because twins were considered a bad omen in his home country, and was blamed for all the misfortunes that happened. The tower is considered a ''morgue'' for dead prisoners, and the twins would only be allowed to leave until one of them perished. When Fai gave up his life for Yuui (who eventually took up his brother's name), he was allowed to leave but was burdened with two curses: he'd be forced to kill someone that would surpass his immense magic power, and if he were to return to Celes and could not kill Ashura, he'd be trapped as the country collapses. Then to twist the knife further, his memory was altered to believed he killed his own brother, just so Fei Wang can prey on his grief to make him servant, under the guise that he could resurrect his twin brother. Any wonder why he wanted to end his life in the Tokyo arc?]]
* DeathSeeker: [[spoiler: Some of his earliest childhood memories are his imprisonment in the tower and having a MadnessMantra of "I want to die, I want to die" over and over again. He doesn't defend himself properly in battle which leads to Fai having injuries that could've been avoided, much to Kurogane's chagrin. And when C Syaoran rips out his eye he actually ''begs'' Kurogane not to save him, and he holds a deep grudge against the other man for a long time when he does.]]
* DeusAngstMachina: Check the entry over there for more details.
* EmergencyTransformation: [[spoiler: Gets turned into a vampire in the Tokyo arc after he gets badly injured by C Syaoran.]]
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: Grows his hair out after the events in Tokyo, signifying the darker turn in his personality. [[spoiler:Subverted at the end of the series where he keeps the longer hair but is much happier mentally]].
* EyepatchOfPower: He starts wearing an eyepatch after the Tokyo arc. However, he's a subversion since [[spoiler:he actually lost half of his power along with the eye he lost]].
* EyeScream: [[spoiler: When Syaoran's seal breaks, the newly soul-less clone rips out Fai's eye to gain half his magic power.]]
* FightsLikeANormal: He's introduced as a clearly powerful wizard, but he spends most of the series being just a knowledgeable guy with some unofficial martial arts skills due to his refusal to use his magic, a fact that annoys the pragmatic Kurogane. It is later subverted because, as Kurogane also notes, Fai still uses some kinds of magic here and there.
* GenreSavvy: Has shades of this. He uses Sakura's [[BornLucky luck]] to make sure they have everything they need in Spirit.
* GirlInTheTower: RareMaleExample. [[spoiler:Fai (real name Yuui) and his twin were imprisoned at the bottom and top of a tower, respectively, surrounded by unclimbable walls, where the dead bodies of prisoners were discarded.]]
* HairContrastDuo: Initially plays the flighty cheerful ditzy blonde to Kurogane's angry brunette, but it's later subverted when Fai's true colors begin to shine through.
* HandicappedBadass: Not as much as Kurogane and Syaoran but he kicks serious ass in the final battle [[spoiler: before he gets his magic and eye back.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:Fai has been working for Fei Wang in an attempt to resurrect his twin brother and was originally TheMole sent by Fei Wang in order to mislead the group and ensure C Syaoran succeeded in finding the feathers. However, after becoming genuinely fond of the group, Fai has a change of heart following the events of the Acid Tokyo and Infinity arcs and turns against Fei Wang for real.]]
* HeroicBSOD: Happens a [[TraumaCongaLine few times]] over the course of the series, such as when [[spoiler:Sakura is "killed" in Infinity, and when Ashura is killed in Celes.]]
* IHateYouVampireDad: [[spoiler:He bears Kurogane a pretty hefty grudge after Kurogane arranges to have Fai turned into a vampire to save his life... although Fai's objections have nothing much to do with disliking being a vampire and everything to do with the fact that he wanted to die. The two of them reconcile once Fai's worked through some of his myriad issues.]]
* InterruptedSuicide: [[spoiler: It's implied he would have killed himself too after stabbing Sakura had Kurogane not stopped him.]]
* KungFuWizard: His physical skills are high enough to fight around comfortably without using his magic. He is very gracile to leap and dodge, and has an affinity for kicks, very much like Syaoran. [[spoiler: Most especially after becoming a vampire, as seen in the final battle.]]
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwony1txawI Strange Names]] One should probably note that this and Kurogane's "Break the Sword of Justice" are probably the only themes of the series that are completely separated from the normal style the soundtrack has going on.
* LikeADaughterToMe: How he feels about Sakura. Playfully at first, but then we get to Acid Tokyo, aka the shit hits the fan world. Just look at him cradle Sakura in his arms after [[spoiler:she comes back alive from her mission]]. Then in Infinity, where he practically [[UndyingLoyalty devotes himself to serving her]]. [[spoiler:He later reveals that it's partially because he already knows she's a created being - this only makes him want to be kinder to her.]]
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: He grows his hair out after Acid Tokyo. See ExpositoryHairstyleChange. In the sequel he lets it down once and fangirls worldwide had a collective freakout.
%%* MagicKnight
* MartyrWithoutACause: He has little to no value for his own life, so he often tries to sacrifice himself to protect those he cares about from danger.
* TheMole: [[spoiler: Was planted into the group by Fei Wang in order to ensure C Syaoran succeeded in finding the feathers.]]
%%* MrFanservice
* MySiblingWillLiveThroughMe: [[spoiler:Fai is actually Yuui, who took the identity of his deceased twin brother.]]
* MysteriousMiddleInitial: His name contains the middle initial of "D". It's actually not a name but a title for high level wizards.
* TheNicknamer: To everyone in the group to some extent, but ''especially'' Kurogane. So much so he never uses the ninja's real name. [[spoiler: At least, not until his post-vampire-transformation [[IHateYouVampireDad personality switch]], where a simple statement of "Good morning, ''Kurogane''" is used to great effect.]]
* OccultBlueEyes: His magical powers are explicitly tied to the blue color in his eyes. [[spoiler:He loses them after his left eye is taken by C Syaoran and Fai gives up the power of his remaining eye to pay for Kurogane's artificial arm.]]
* OlderThanHeLooks: As Yuuko told Kurogane, Fai has already lived many times Kurogane's age. Given that Kurogane looks to be in his early 20's at the youngest, this probably makes Fai at least 80 years old, despite ''also'' appearing to be in his early 20's.
* OurVampiresAreDifferent: [[spoiler:He is forced to become a vampire using Kamui's blood to save his life. He gains regeneration, though he has to regularly drink Kurogane's blood to keep himself alive.]]
* PapaWolf: ''Don't'' hurt his surrogate daughter Sakura if you want to live. [[spoiler:He not just goes back to Celes, the exact place he made a ''wish'' to ''Yuuko'' not to return to, but he made ''another'' wish to go back to Celes, sacrificing something yet again. So he could save Sakura.]] Don't. Touch. His. Daughter.
%%* PhenotypeStereotype
* PowerLimiter: His full-back phoenix tattoo is supposed to restrict his huge innate powers to keep him safe. Thus, when he gives it up to Yuuko as his traveling price, he also swears off the use of magic. Later subverted when we find out [[spoiler:he's more dangerous with it than without it, because he is cursed to try to kill the first person he meets who is MORE powerful. With his magic restricted, it's more likely that he'll find someone who outstrips him]].
* PrettyInMink: A giant floofy white fur overcoat. [[spoiler:He loses it for good in Celes, which is probably symbolic on some level, most likely something to do with no longer needing to hide from the others.]]
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Sensitive Guy to Kurogane's Manly Man, fitting the Creator/{{CLAMP}} stereotype.
* ShipTease: With Kurogane at all times, everywhere and no matter who's watching.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Officially, it's "Fay", but Del Rey had already settled on "Fai" for their translation, and fans tend to just spell it however the hell they want. There's also Flowright vs. Fluorite.
* TheStateless: With his home country gone, he has no place to officially call home. Syaoran lacks a nationality, as well. Thankfully, they both have loved ones in welcoming countries, and perhaps someday they will become citizens of one of them. Fans have pretty much agreed that he'll settle down in Nihon one day, which is likely considering his [[HoYay relationship with Kurogane]].
* StepfordSmiler: Though it does begin to crack and ultimately appears to fall away completely.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: His eye color changes from blue to gold after [[spoiler:he gets turned into a vampire]]. Later, [[spoiler:he gives up his remaining magic in Nihon to pay for Kurogane's artificial arm and]] his eye turns permanent gold.
* SuperpowerMeltdown: In Celes country, [[spoiler: when the second curse on Fay activates, he literally shuts down a dimension with his magic. This also highlights his PowerDegeneration.]]
* SurvivorsGuilt: [[spoiler: He spent most of his life wanting to die because he believes he caused his brother's death. He eventually gets better.]]
* TeamMom: Is essentially the Mokona-proclaimed mother of the group. His actions towards [[spoiler:R]]Syaoran during his ItsAllMyFault-episode cement that.
* TraumaCongaLine: Fai has it hard throughout the series, starting with [[spoiler:the death of his twin (which he believes himself responsible for); Ashura's mental breakdown and murderous rampage; losing an eye and completely dropping his StepfordSmiler act during Infinity, followed by Sakura's "dying" because of his triggered curse; and finally ''the entire Celes Arc'', especially Kurogane nearly dying and Ashura's eventual death.]]
* VitriolicBestBuds: The vitriol is only on Kurogane's part and they really [[HoYay care deeply]] about each other.
* WhatBeautifulEyes: Compared to gems at one point.
* WhenHeSmiles: When he's really, truly happy, and not just [[StepfordSmiler putting on an act.]]
* WolverineClaws: When [[spoiler:becoming a vampire]].
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: It's not exactly willingly, but [[spoiler: Fai shuts down a whole dimension with a magic-powered freak out once his curse activates in Celes, and he nearly did so earlier in Infinity when Sakura's soul was split from her body.]]
* WrongContextMagic: CLAMP's magic users almost universally use a form of [[GeometricMagic magic circle]] to cast spells. So when Fai's magic is seen for the first time, it comes as a bit of a shock when it takes the form of [[InstantRunes ribbons of runic energy.]]

----
* CloneJesus: She and Larg are clones of [[TheMaker Mokona]] created by Clow Reed and Yuuko Ichihara.
* TheEmpath: Mokona is skilled at deducing the hidden feelings of the other group members, especially when they try to hide their sadness.
* EyesAlwaysShut: Except when sensing a feather or by free will.
* FunSize: Is smaller (and therefore cuter) than the original Mokona, which she was a clone of.

* ShipperOnDeck: Arguably for the [=KuroFai=] pair. She is the first to call Fai "Mommy" after he called Kurogane "Daddy" and brings it back up more than once. If this is this trope or just her trying to get a rise out of Kurogane...well, it could be both considering who made her.
* SweetTooth: She likes sweet things.
* TeleportersAndTransporters: Can inhale things that it will then send to Yuuko via Larg, and receive things Larg inhales.

Almost everything that happens in the series is according to his plan.
----
* ArtificialHuman: [[spoiler:According to the last volume's new pages, he was a created being just like Xing Huo or Rondart. It's implied that he was created by Clow Reed's wish alone.]]

* {{Irony}}: [[spoiler:All he wanted to do was to prevent Yuuko Ichihara from losing her life, but [[SelfFulfillingProphecy what he did only caused Yuuko to sacrifice her life.]]]]
* GambitRoulette: Alternate worlds, alternate ''timelines'' and he's steering his plan through it all.
* LanternJawOfJustice: Villainous (though still impressive) example.
* LargeAndInCharge: A pretty big dude, he towers over Xing Huo, who is not precisely short, and is broader of shoulders than any other character in the series.
* LiterallyShatteredLives: [[spoiler:He breaks into pieces rather than dying.]]
* LoveMakesYouEvil: Left ambiguous. His motivation to [[spoiler:keep Yuuko alive]] is repeteadly told to be not out of love, but of intelectual desire of surpassing Clow Reed in magic greatness. However, his lines at the climax of the series sound increasingly broken and teary towards [[spoiler:Yuuko]]'s inevitable fate, and his last words claim that he would resurrect her "so he could tell her something." With the revelation of him being possibly an [[spoiler:ArtificialHuman created out of Clow Reed's desires]], his motivations become even more muddled.
* MagicKnight: He owns a rather huge sword, and Kurogane believes that he must have been a skilled swordfighter.
* ManipulativeBastard: [[spoiler:He manipulates Fai into working for him by offering to resurrect his dead twin brother. Of course, Fei Wong had no interest in that. He just wants to use Fai to spy on the group.]]
* RoyalHarem: In the manga, he's often shown surrounded by a crowd of sexy-looking BridgeBunnies on his coach, as opposed to the anime, where they are notably absent.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: His name is written both as "Fei Wang Reed" and "Fei Wong Reed".

* AdvertisedExtra: She has a rather prominent place in the anime's openings, despite she is just a henchwoman with few lines and no role yet in the adapted arcs.
* AmbiguouslyEvil: Her motivations, goals or even inner thoughts are completely unknown to the reader, so her HeelFaceTurn comes from nowhere and has no explanation. The only hint of her allegiance is her last line, which [[spoiler:is uncannily similar to Clow Reed's last words.]]

After being transported from Shara, Syaoran and Sakura meet Ashura, the king of Shura who wages eternal war against King Yasha's tribe over a wish-granting castle. Although their countries are fighting, it turns out that Ashura is in love with Yasha, and has enlisted Syaoran in his fight in the hopes of fulfilling an impossible wish, to revive the deceased Yasha.
----
* AllDeathsFinal: Ashura's wish to resurrect Yasha is so impossible it causes the moon castle to self-destruct.
* ChastityCouple: They never spent a moment together outside the battlefield while still alive.
* CulturedWarrior: Ashura, being a king, is naturally shown to be this.
* DeadAllAlong: Yasha, at the time the protagonists meet him.
* DeadPersonConversation: Yasha's spirit visits Ashura the night he dies in direct defiance of NeverGotToSayGoodbye.
* EternalLove: Ashura guarantees that their love always goes on by becoming gods of the next generation.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: When his wish destroys the moon castle Ashura chooses to remain as it crumbles around him.
* GodCouple: Enforced by Ashura's final wish and Syaoran's request that they not be separated. In the new Shara timeline, the gods are always worshipped together.
* LivingMemory: Yasha is a memory powered by Sakura's feather.
* LoveAcrossBattlelines: They belong to enemy kingdoms, but they are in love.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: There are a lot of them in Shura. Whether Ashura counts among them depends on [[ViewerGenderConfusion your view]] on [[PronounTrouble their]] gender, but Yasha definitely does
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: Played tragically when Ashura, who fights with Yasha because it's the only time they can be together, wounds him one day leading to Yasha's death..
* RankScalesWithAsskicking: The two leaders are the best fighters on either side.
* SignificantNameOverlap: The Ashura of Shura Country has the same name as Ashura-ou in Celes. This does not go unnoticed by Fai, and becomes a minor plot point in his story arc.
* StarCrossedLovers: The unholy pentangle of [[LoveHurts tragic romance]]. Their kingdoms war eternally against each other every night for ownership of the moon castle that grants wishes. They fall in love but Ashura accidentally kills Yasha one night because he is suffering from illness. Ashura can't accept it and tries to bring him back via a wish that is so impossible, it destroys the moon castle, and chooses to die and [[TogetherInDeath reunite with Yasha that way]].
* TearsOfBlood: Yasha's statue in Shara sheds these.
* TogetherInDeath: After Ashura realizes it's impossible to bring Yasha back to life, Ashura decides to join Yasha in death.
* WarriorPrince: Ashura and Yasha are kings and both amazing fighters.
* WarGod: Ashura after deification.

* AntiquatedLinguistics: The group notices Sorata speaks differently, and he claims that it's an obsolete style that he uses because he wants to preserve the history of Hanshin.
* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: Arashi hitting Sorata during his worse moments is supposed to be funny.
* HandPuppet: Sorata uses puppets of him and Arashi to deliver the {{exposition}} on the Hanshin Republic. Naturally the Arashi puppet doesn't say anything.
* HappilyMarried: Their fate in Hanshin is much kinder than the world of ''Manga/{{X 1999}}''.

* SickeninglySweethearts: Arashi isn't, but Sorata overcompensates for it on his own. He spends most of his screentime going on and on about his "honey", and even issues "I'm only not kidding if nothing happens" warnings to Kurogane about flirting with her while cheerfully smiling. 1074
A teenager who was used by sorcerer Fei-Wang Reed to create C Syaoran. As a descendant from the sorcerer Clow Reed, Syaoran was able to seal part of his "heart" within his clone, meant to be manipulated by Fei-Wang, allowing the clone to grow a personality. Once Syaoran escapes from the prison and his clone betrays his friends, he joins the group of Kurogane, Fai, Mokona and Sakura as he wishes to recover something he lost, later revealing he wished to find the original Sakura. In the series' ending he becomes the son of C Syaoran and C Sakura due to a stable time loop but loses his bonds with them after the loop is broken, thus becoming a paradox himself.
----
* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: For his Sakura's sake, he has purposely damned an entire town, watching them melt before his eyes, chosen staying with her over his own world and family at the age of seven, and then made a DealWithTheDevil to radically alter, and not for better, the life of her entire family, herself, and his own parents, along with, potentially, ''all of space and time''.
* AmbiguouslyEvil: Carrying Fei Wang's symbol, being with him and appearing in a dream trying to kill the other Syaoran made many believe this Syaoran was evil. [[spoiler:Turns out he's actually one of the good guys.]]
* BigBrotherInstinct: While they aren't really brothers, Syaoran cares about the existence of his AlternateSelf Watanuki and wishes him to not disappear.
* BreakTheCutie: Tries to save Sakura from being infected with the black seal only for his efforts to be in vain. He severs contact with any of his families and friends just to save her from the black seal but it is still not enough despite roaming around for 7 years just to find the cure. Eventually he becomes so desperate that he is willing to break the rules of time by rewinding 7 years all to save Sakura.
* ButNowIMustGo: After finally defeating Fei-Wang and managing to undo Fei-Wang's damage to the world, Syaoran has to leave Sakura to continue his eternal journey through dimensions because he had to exchange his ability to stay in one world for very long for his right to continue existing. Kurogane, Fai and Mokona go with him and Sakura stays in her own world to wait for his return.
** Later, Watanuki, who has become a powerful magician in his own right, manipulates probability to ensure T!Syaoran will end up in Clow more often.
* CallingYourAttacks: RAITEI SHORAI!
* CharacterDevelopment: At first he is incredibly stoic and uncommunicative due to what his clone did as well as his failures. Once his comrades accept him, he starts smiling more often and talking more.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: With R Sakura. They first met when they were seven years old; Syaoran quickly fell in love with her and swore to protect her. Syaoran decided to never return to his original world to stay in Clow Country and spent the next 7 years afterwards searching for a way to save Sakura from Fei-Wang's curse.
* ComesGreatResponsibility: The reason why he was trained so early.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Brown hair and brown eyes.
* DeclarationOfProtection: He swore to protect Sakura.
* DefrostingIceKing: He is surprisingly quiet in his first appearances in comparison to his childhood and is only expressive with Watanuki. However, he warms up to Kurogane, Fai and Mokona and smiles more often.
* DisabilitySuperpower: By ripping an eye of him he could give his clone a heart and at the same time see everything he sees at the cost of half of his magic. Once he recovers his eye and magic power he learned the clone's fighting style.
* TheDulcineaEffect: He cut off contact with his parents and everyone else in his original world to stay in Clow Country and spent the next 7 years afterwards searching for a way to save Sakura. Keep in mind that he did this for a girl he had only known for a week, and that he was fully aware that he wouldn't be able to go back. Also keep in mind that he was 7 years old when he made this decision.
* ElementalPowers: Fire, lightning and wind. Has water as well but only uses it in his "ultimate spell".
* EyeScream: He rips his eye out, seals half his soul into it, and implants it in his clone to foil Fei Wong's plans.
* FailureHero: In spite of his skills and showings, he never achieves any sort of victory save for the final Infinity match agains Hikaru. He loses all of his battles against his own clone, unable to stop Fei Wang's plans from commencing, and does little contribution during the battle against Ashura.
* FailureKnight: The reason why he is so stoic in the beginning. He feels guilty about his failure to save his Sakura from the black seal in time and the repercussions caused by his wish to rewind time to get another chance to save her.
* {{Foil}}: While at first he is easily compared with the Syaoran clone, he is actually closer to Watanuki. The two share the same personality traits although Syaoran is much calmer.
* GuiltComplex: He blames himself for everything that happened, because of his decision to rewind time when he was seven.
* HeroWithBadPublicity: You will not become very popular when you have a clone who is murdering anybody interfering with his goal.
* HeyYou: Unlike his clone, Syaoran never calls anyone by their name. The only exceptions include both the clones, the real Sakura and Fei Wong Reed.
* IChooseToStay: When he was only 7 years old, he decided to never return to his own world so he could stay in Clow Country and keep searching for a way to save Sakura.
* IncestSubtext: He's been impersonating his father and romancing a princess who is the original from whom his mother was cloned since he was seven.
%%* KatanasAreJustBetter
* LikeParentLikeSpouse: A complex example since he is in love with the original from whom his mother was cloned.
* MagicKnight: He has both the magical abilities of the Li family and the fighting skills of his clone.
* MyGreatestFailure: Hesitating to take the Original Sakura's hand to save her from Fei-Wong's curse hunts him.
* MyOwnGrampa: It's hard to explain, but in short this Syaoran is the son of his own clone, who was reincarnated in the past.
* NotQuiteDead: Appears to be killed by his clone in Clow. It turns out the clone wounded himself.
* OlderThanHeLooks: Mentally he is about 20 years old, but physically he is only 14.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Even after his real name (Tsubasa) is revealed in the end, he still goes by Syaoran to everyone who knows him.
* ParadoxPerson: R Syaoran is a living, breathing time paradox, as he's the son of his own clone. It's implied that the timestream was desperately trying to hold itself together, resulting in a few {{Stable Time Loop}}s to patch up other paradoxes, resulting in R Syaoran's existence. When everything is sorted out in the end and the multiverse is repaired, C Syaoran and C Sakura are [[RetGone Ret Gonned]] from existence, and R Syaoran almost ceases to exist because if his clone never existed, then neither could he, and he only ever really existed in the first place because he went and [[RealityBreakingParadox broke causality]]. To pay for the repairs, R Syaoran exchanges his ability to stay in one world for very long for his right to continue existing.
* PowerCopying: He manages to imitate his clone's fighting style perfectly even when closing his eyes.
* SayMyName: "FEI WAAAAAAAAAAANG!!!"
* SealedBadassInACan: He spent 7 years being trapped by Fei-Wang inside a tube until he regains his power and escapes.
* SignificantNameOverlap: His and R Sakura's real names are both Tsubasa.
* StarCrossedLovers: With Sakura. After waiting about 7 years to save Sakura, Syaoran has to leave shortly after confessing his feelings for her because now he has to continue traveling through dimensions forever. However, he still can stop by Sakura's world anytime he wants to as long as he doesn't stay too long.
* TheStoic: He starts out incredibly inexpressive and uncommunicative, but he later opens up more.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: It's a plot point, actually. Syaoran and his father look identical because Syaoran's father is actually the reincarnation of his own clone.
* SupportingProtagonist: At first since there was little known about this and the story was more focused on C Sakura. Later he becomes the main character when his objective is revealed.
* TrojanHorse: His body since Fei Wang needs the soul to make him rescue R Sakura. With the clone's help, Syaoran acts like the horse.
* WalkingSpoiler: Original Syaoran's entire existence is a huge spoiler for the big revelations after the Tokyo arc, as well as the whole {{mind screw}}y TimeTravel fiasco that takes place in the second half of the series.
* WalkingTheEarth: After Fei-Wang dies, the two Syaorans and Watanuki are subjected to his final curse, and the three of them are pulled into a void between time and space. The original Syaoran decides the price he would pay to escape from the area is to continue traveling through dimensions forever.
* WhyDidYouMakeMeHitYou: In Mirai Kanai where he narrowly kills C Syaoran with two spells. R Syaoran is destroyed over being forced to kill his other self but is comforted by Fai and Kurogane when leaving the battle.
* WeakButSkilled: Doesn't have the enormous magical power that Fai, and subsequently his clone, have available but he does have versatility and control over his spells to get more use out of them.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: When being only seven he was already one of the most mature characters in the entire series.
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: When visiting Clow for the second time, he has no means of returning home and never does.
