!!Noah Maxwell

[[caption-width-right:350:I don't feel safe in my own home anymore.]]

The main character and AudienceSurrogate, Noah uploads the recordings of his last days with his cousin Milo Asher before his apparent suicide in 2010. Upon noticing the Slender Man in the videos, Noah becomes the target for the monster and his minions, particularly the Observer, recording the encounters and the [[ApocalypticLog mysterious events surrounding his life]]. [[ClusterFBomb He has a tendency to swear a lot when under pressure]].
----
* AesopAmnesia: You'd think that getting a lesson about Severance and how to fight against the Collective from [[WebVideo/EverymanHYBRID HABIT]] of all people would [[ScareEmStraight encourage Noah to listen to Firebrand better]]. The end result couldn't be more wrong: Noah immediately locks himself in his house to avoid making any moves forward, and promptly forgets everything HABIT taught him. Rendezvous!Noah lampshades this, stating that Noah has to actually think critically about the information he's given, rather than jump to conclusions and do dumb things.
* TheAlcoholic: During the events of The Live Stream Incident and Fortunes, Noah takes several swigs from Jack Daniels and Jim Beam bottles. Heck, it's pretty safe to say that Noah drinks more than any character in the Slenderverse.
* TheAloner: Justified and deconstructed. Noah has lived in his parent's rather large summer home since 2008. While he claims he does this to keep his family and friends safe from Slender Man, Season 2 shows that living alone ultimately takes a toll on his mortal sanity.
* ApocalypticLog: His video project, initially meant to be focusing on the twelve tribes of Israel, turns into this.
* AxCrazy: Briefly became this in the second part of "Thanksgiving Day Footage" under the influence of the Collective. Sarah finds him in a daze, covered in blood and wielding a knife. It is later revealed he in fact murdered Sarah's friend Kat.
* BadassNormal: Willing to take on Slender Man with a pistol. But he is smart enough to leg it when Slender Man brings out the tentacles.
* BeardOfSorrow: Grows one in the days before his 21st birthday, and between the events of Bridge to Nowhere and Fortunes.
* BloodFromTheMouth: In the "November 11th" video, and again in "Pitfall."
* CannotTellAJoke: Tries to tell a joke to Kevin Haas in "Facade" that involves something about pineapples, laughing, and a guy named Bob. Kevin lampshades this, mentioning that Noah was once very good at being funny.
* ConditionedToAcceptHorror: Due to the constant suffering and insanity The Collective inflict upon him Noah has become a lot more cavalier when faced with his daily eldritch horrors. Best shown in "Facade" where when channel surfing between squicky imagery and horrifying visuals, he sounds positively ''bored''.
* CosmicPlaything: Poor Noah is this both in-universe and out-of-universe. Not only does the Collective just ''love'' to fuck with him in-universe, but the TT fandom is notorious for making memes of his struggles out-of-universe. Though unlike most examples of this trope, Noah is aware of both groups' sadism, and deeply resents it.
* DeadpanSnarker: Nearly every character in the mythos tends to be this to [[StepfordSnarker cope with their less than pleasant life experiences.]] However, in Noah's case, this seems to be an integral part of his personality even before shit hits the fan.
* DeathSeeker: Seemed to be the case after "Catharsis", but after finding [[LivingMacguffin Milo's]] [[MementoMacguffin journal]] he seems determined to continue. Though no longer actively seeking, in "Pitfall" after [[FourEyesZeroSoul The Observer]] pushes him off the observation tower and he falls for a while, after screaming in terror for the first half, he screams '''"THIS IS IT!! I'M FUCKIN' DEAD!! I'M ''FREE!!''"''' with obvious glee in his voice. [[YankTheDogsChain Then he hits the ground, badly hurt, but still alive.]]
* {{Determinator}}: Zig-zagged. Noah's more than willing to find out what happened to Milo, and fight against the Collective beginning in Season 1. However, he completely falls apart from Catharsis through The Live Stream Incident, willingly accepting his fate the Observer is giving him. Once Firebrand saves him, he comes around and plays the trope straight in Season 2's early episodes. Unfortunately, he ends up averting the trope for good by the time Fortunes occurs, where he's become a reclusive jerkass who's afraid of making any kind of progress due to the Collective's influence.
* DespairEventHorizon: The Catharsis video has him willing to accept his fate and be taken by the Observer.
** Being saved by Firebrand seems to have given him new incentive to live, and he is back to his old determined self--albeit rather shell-shocked.
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: Does this to both Slender Man and the Observer.
** He also tries to ''shoot'' the Slender Man. (It doesn't work, of course; but he gets points just for ''trying''.)
* DistressedDude: The Collective has a tendency to snatch him in the earlier videos and then release after screwing with his mind after varying amount of time, no matter how much he resists. He has been avoiding this lately though thanks to the help of Firebrand.
* DoomedByCanon: Noah is destined to become Firebrand at some point in the future, regardless of how hard he tries to avoid it.
* ExtremeOmnivore: Rendezvous and Facade show that Noah's long stay in the Collective's Realm in 2015 left him so desperate for food that he's eaten leaves and a ''live crab'' off the ground to sustain himself.
* FriendsRentControl: Noah lives in a large house with a pool in Florida all by himself. The house itself is actually a summer house owned by his parents, and they do give him an allowance to allow him to pay for groceries. At least until he receives Mr. Scars' cash.
* GratuitousGerman: By the time Season 2 rolls around, Noah's begun taking German lessons to prepare himself for reading Sebastian's journal, and has begun writing tweets entirely in German. Given that Firebrand tends to respond to these tweets in English though, it looks like more of a phase than anything.
* HellHotel: Ends up in one (in the aptly named "Halloween Hotel" video and November 11th), where he is attacked by the Observer and Slender Man, and where he encounters Firebrand for the first time.
* HeroicBSOD: During the run-up to his birthday...and when realizes he killed Kat.
* HorrorDoesntSettleForSimpleTuesday: The Observer planned to turn Noah into a member of the Collective on his birthday, November 11th. Fortunately, Firebrand puts a stop to this during the events of The Live Stream Incident.
* InMemoriam: The first video Noah posts is in memory of Milo. After that, the channel quickly veers into the horrific.
* ItSucksToBeTheChosenOne: Noah was marked at birth (perhaps even ''earlier'') to become an important member of the Collective. By the time Noah realizes this, his life is a living hell.
* TheKillerInMe: Noah murdered Kat, possibly while under the influence of the Observer.
* MesACrowd: As of Season 2, there are a whopping ''four'' different versions of Noah that exist in the series. This includes the current Noah that the audience follows, two alternate versions of him who lives in the Collective's realm, and [[PhysicalGod Firebrand]].
* MindScrew: Happens to him a LOT.
* RecapEpisode: Several Months of Hell, Case Findings, and Fortunes are this.
* SanitySlippage: In the run-up to his 21st birthday, Noah becomes more and more uneasy and emotional. In fact, the series ''as a whole'' can be seen as this for Noah.
* SeinfeldianConversation: Often has these with other characters, particularly during the early "Milo" videos.
* ShirtlessScene: Has an unpleasant FanDisservice scene in the November 11th video after the Observer draws and writes on his chest.
* SirSwearsalot: He gets out the expletives when he's scared. He's scared ''a lot.''
* SlasherSmile: Pulls off a rather impressive one during the second part of the Thanksgiving Day footage.
* TookALevelInJerkass: After "Bridge to Nowhere" Noah begins posting and interacting with fans less and less, and becomes more unhinged and angry. It gets so bad that when StanFrederick offers him help in two videos, he angrily insults him both over the phone, and at his front door.
* UnexpectedInheritance: Firebrand and Mr. Scars deliver a briefcase to Noah, containing several of Milo's belongings. It also doubles as a BriefcaseFullOfMoney.
* UnreliableNarrator: [[EpilepticTrees Perhaps]].

!!Milo Asher
[[quoteright:310:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/miloasher_0.png]]
[[caption-width-right:310:I'm making this tape...to prove that I'm not insane. I don't know what to say. But whoever ends up watching this needs to believe me...and bear with me.]]

Noah's cousin, close friend, and {{Deuteragonist}} of the series. Milo was stalked by the Slender Man from his early childhood up until the time he visited Noah in 2008. He [[DrivenToSuicide committed suicide]] in 2010 and Noah's inspection of the video recordings he made in 2008 reveals that the Slender Man may have had an influence on the event of Milo's death. Starting in 2018, Noah begins posting excerpts of Milo's journal onto the Maxwell Archive, which details Milo's horrific life while dealing with Slender Man.
----
* BackFromTheDead: "Extraordinary Circumstances" confirms that he's been resurrected as the Collective member Mr. Scars.
* BedlamHouse: Milo reveals that he went to a mental institution for a few years after supposedly having a psychotic breakdown for not taking his meds. In 2008, he gets sent there again after a failed attempt at confronting Mary results in him getting drugged and shipped off there.
* BigBrotherInstinct: More like Big Cousin Instinct, but Milo's determined attempts to keep Slendy focused on him so that he doesn't go for Noah definitely falls into this department.
* BungledSuicide: Although Milo is able to successfully end his life by slashing his wrists and slitting his throat, he doesn't actually ''stay'' dead: his body ends up vanishing from the morgue, and he is later resurrected as Mr. Scars in Milo's Tape.
* BuryingASubstitute: In Mary Asher Phone Call, it's revealed that the ashes that were placed in Milo's grave weren't actually his: they belonged to his beloved pet cat Oscar. This was due to the fact that Milo's actual corpse vanished from the morgue, and wouldn't come back until ''much'' later, in which he...
* CameBackWrong: When he's revived by Slender Man, he's shown to retain every one of his wounds that he inflicted on himself to end his life; slashed wrists, slit throat, and all.
* DeathOfPersonality: The pills Milo is forced to take sedate him to the point where he lives his life as an emotionless husk. Once he discovers his journal once more in 2003/06, he regains everything he's lost, and starts acting like his normal self once again.
* DrivenToSuicide: And the Observer claims that he helped.
* DreamingOfThingsToCome: During his teenage years, Milo dreams about many things that viewers know are going to happen in video form. Some of them have been documented, and some of them haven't.
* DoomedByCanon: No matter how hard Milo tries to fight Slender Man and his mother on his own to keep Noah safe, viewers know from the get-go that Milo will end up killing himself, allowing Slendy to set his sights on Noah.
* EasyAmnesia: When Milo discovers his journal in 2003, he notes that he has little to no memory of any of the entries he wrote as a child from 1995-97. As it turns out, the pills that he takes act as some kind of beta-blockers that prevent him from remembering things well.
** This trope comes into effect again after Milo loses his journal from between 2004-2006. However, once he opens it up for himself, Milo immediately remembers everything that happened to him, averting this trope.
* ElementalMotifs: He was associated by fire in that he was repeatedly being "burned". His birth father died in a housefire [[spoiler:started by his mother]], his name was mentioned on a burned piece of paper Noah was given, and Noah nearly burned Milo's journal to get the lock open, only to break down in tears:
-->''I can't do it. I can't do it, Milo. I can't burn you. I can't burn you. Not again. I can't burn you again.''
* EmotionSuppression: While under the influence of Henka's pills, Milo is basically a mindless husk who can't remember anything.
* EmoTeen: Absolutely justified though, given how awful Milo's life was.
* FromTheMouthsOfBabes: Milo has been using curse words openly since the age of seven. Although some points are justified (i.e., when he describes how [[KidsAreCruel Jeremy]] calls him a shithead), it becomes extremely jarring when he calls his teacher both an asshole and a bastard, and when he tells Jeremy to go fuck himself.
* FriendlessBackground: With the exception of Kevin and Noah, Milo had almost no friends during his childhood and teen years.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Noah considers Milo the closest thing he had to a brother.
** Also appeared to be this with Kevin during his early childhood.
* HiddenInPlainSight: The Slender Man around Milo.
* IronicName: Milo's last name, Asher, means "happy" or "blessed" in Hebrew. Needless to say, Milo's life story is one of the most tragic tales ever told in Franchise/TheSlenderManMythos, no thanks to the curse of the Administrator.
* KidsAreCruel: During Milo's childhood, he opens up to a kid named Jeremy about seeing Slender Man. Immediately after this happens, Jeremy tells his other classmates who relentlessly taunt, bully, and humiliate him for the rest of his childhood as a result.
* KindHeartedCatLover: Received a kitten named Oscar from his Aunt Sharon, who he comes to love dearly. After both Milo and Oscar die, the latter's ashes are buried in the place of Milo's actual body.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Mary Asher and Henka Visæ both force Milo to take pills to prevent him from remembering anything from his childhood and teen years, as well as [[EmotionSuppression suppress his emotions]].
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: During the Submission tapes, Milo had long flowing hair.
* NeverSuicide: Played with. While it's been confirmed that Milo took his own life, how he actually did so is different from what Noah was told it was.
* NoBodyLeftBehind: Zig-zagged. When Milo takes his own life, his corpse is definitely seen by the authorities, and is brought in. Once it gets to the morgue however, it spontaneously disappears, resulting in his grave being filled with the ashes of his cat. Then, his body (and conscious) returns 3 years later, engages in some horrifying activities, and then disappears once more after completing his mission of delivering the BriefcaseFullOfMoney to Noah.
* PhlebotinumPills: Milo was consistently taking pills during his life, on the demands of his mother and doctor. And as it turns out, not all of them were actually prescribed to him by his doctor, and were actually pills given to him by Henka Visæ to block out his memories.
* PosthumousCharacter: [[BackFromTheDead At first]].
* PlotTriggeringDeath: His suicide is what causes Noah to go back through the old footage he shot of Milo back in 2008, which has him discover the Slender Man and what he has planned for him.
* OutOfCharacterAlert: In his last entry in 2004 before the TimeSkip to 2006, Milo asks his mother during a moment of frustration how her book club went, despite the fact that his pills should've made him forget about the club years ago. This results in Mary realizing that Milo's been in her safe again, and consequently wiping his mind once again to make him a mental TechnicallyLivingZombie.
* RedHerring: It was implied that he was the host for Firebrand. Turns out Firebrand is in fact a future or alternate version of Noah.
* SanitySlippage: Milo's head is ''not'' in the right place once he discovers his journal in the library in 2006.
* SelfHarm: According to Noah, he was a cutter. We see it up close in Milo's Tape, where he slashes his wrists and even ''slices his own throat open'' in an attempt to kill himself. [[BackFromTheDead It doesn't work]].
* UnwantedRevival: The drastic measures he takes to commit suicide ultimately ends in failure, as he ends up coming back to life thanks to the Administrator.
* WeirdnessMagnet: Let's see: mother belonged a [[WebVideo/DarkHarvest Slendy-worshipping cult]] that she made him join at a young age? Check. Father murdered? Check. Stalked by the Slender Man throughout his life? Check. Received treatment from [[WebVideo/EverymanHYBRID Dr. Corenthal]]? Check. Targeted (and possibly driven to suicide) by the Collective? Check and mate.
* TheWoobie: Having been stalked by Slender Man from the age of 5, plus being used by his mother and the Order's southern chapter for their own interests, Milo had a downright ''rotten'' life.

!!Kevin Haas
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kevin_haas_as_seen_in_facade.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:It's so great to see you man! How've you been?]]
A close friend of Milo Asher's in his childhood, and is friends with Noah Maxwell. Despite appearing very little in the series, he's just as involved in the Collective's antics as Noah is. Mainly because he's the Observer, the one who's stalking him and Milo.
----
* AlternateIdentityAmnesia: Played with. In Milo's journal entries (and possibly DEATHTRAPEXODUS), Kevin seems to be completely unaware of his existence as the Observer. On the other hand, he did send Noah a letter begging Noah to kill him, implying that he found out about his SuperPoweredEvilSide, and tried his best to stop him.
* BlackAndNerdy: In his early teen years, Kevin starts earning higher grades in school than Milo does. He also has apparently been studying German, which he uses to help Noah translate [[EloquentInMyNativeTongue Karl's]] story.
** Milo's journal and Facade both show that Kevin has a strong affinity for video games, having played ''Franchise/SpyroTheDragon'' with Milo in 1995 ([[TimeyWimeyBall 3 years before it even came out!]]), and plays the original ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil'' with Noah while visiting him during the events of the latter.
* ChekhovsGunman: As it turns out, Kevin has been the host for the Observer since his childhood. However, he also has his own issues with Slender Man [[OutOfFocus that have yet to be touched upon]].
* DeathSeeker: If his letter to Noah in the Live Stream Incident and his actions in Facade are taken into account, Kevin's desperate for someone to kill him so that he can't be used by the Collective.
* DemonicPossession: He's the host for the Observer. It becomes especially clear in The Live Stream Incident that he does ''not'' approve of the actions he's done under his Collective counterpart's control.
* [[BigBadFriend Dragon Friend]]: Downplayed. While Kevin does serve the Administrator, he makes it clear in a letter to Noah that his actions as the Observer [[BrainwashedAndCrazy are far from voluntary]].
* EarlyBirdCameo: His quote-unquote first appearance is in November 11th, where he can be seen reviewing some note cards. He later appears in DEATHTRAPEXODUS while reviewing a disk with the Observer symbol on it, and then becomes possessed by the Observer in a dark forest. He finally makes a proper first appearance in Pitfall, where he gets Noah to a hospital.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: Was simply mentioned offhandedly by Noah as a friend who helped translate Karl's German after the events of My Grandfather Karl. He later becomes possessed by the Observer and starts terrorizing Noah for Slender Man's purposes.
* ICannotSelfTerminate: He writes Noah a letter begging him to end his life, [[SplitPersonalityTakeover before his handwriting becomes an incomprehensible mess]]. He does this at one point during Facade as well, although it's unclear if it's actually his doing, or just the Observer mocking him.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: When Milo calls him in 2008, it's revealed that he doesn't remember Milo in the slightest. He even goes out of his way to block Milo's number after Milo continues trying to call him.
* MeaningfulName: Likely unintentional, but "Haas" phonetically sounds like the German word for rabbit/hare.
* OutOfFocus: Although it's clear that Kevin has history with Slender Man and the Collective, his story is barely touched upon, even in Milo's journal.
* PowersViaPossession: Under the Observer's control, Kevin has demonstrated he has a vast array of supernatural abilities, [[TheCracker which include hacking social media accounts]] and [[OffscreenTeleportation teleporting himself wherever he wants to]]. That being said, his powers are still greatly limited in contrast to [[PhysicalGod Firebrand's]].
* SuperPoweredEvilSide: As the Observer, due to his tit-for-tat nightmarish childhood.
* TransformationOfThePossessed: Downplayed. As the Observer starts using him as a host, Kevin starts subtly changing his appearance to match his Collective counterpart; notably by growing out his hair and swapping his contact lenses for glasses.
* TranslatorBuddy: Helps Noah translate Karl Maxwell's German into English after the events of My Grandfather Karl.
* WeirdnessMagnet:
** Every time he appears in a video, something is bound to go wrong. Justified, as he's the host for the Observer.
** This trope also applies him during Milo's childhood. During a journal entry in 1995, Milo writes that he and Kevin played ''VideoGame/SpyroTheDragon1998'' during a sleepover at the latter's house. This is despite the fact that ''Spyro'' wasn't released until ''1998'', three years later. Noah is understandably confused by this.

!!Karl Maxwell
[[quoteright:185:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/karl.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:185:Go away! It is not the right time!]]
Noah's grandfather on his mother's side. He is from Germany, and speaks little English. He reveals to Noah that he encountered the Slender Man in World War II, and possesses a journal and knife belonging to dead Nazi Sebastian Kraus, which apparently is the last record of an unknown historic event involving the Slender Man.
----
* TheAloner: Like Noah, he lives in a house all by himself. The only reason he hasn't been moved to a proper senior citizens' home is because he's supposedly sane enough to pay his mortgage.
* BerserkButton:
** If you've ever encounter Slender Man even ''once'', be prepared to get thrown out the door.
** Trying to take Sebastian's journal is another big one, as Milo discovers. This is most likely why the above Button exists, since if you've both seen Slender Man ''and'' know Karl, then most likely Slendy is trying to recruit you into stealing the journal.
* CigaretteOfAnxiety: He lights one while going over the legalities of his will with Sharon Maxwell and Mary Asher.
* ChekhovsGunman: He's the current owner of Sebastian's journal, which Noah needs. Since it's impossible to steal it, Noah needs to find a way to convince Karl to willingly give it up to his grandson in order to obtain it.
* CrazyPrepared: According to Noah's Ask.fm, Karl has multiple guns in his house. He chases Milo away from his ammunition box with one of them.
* DisproportionateRetribution: How does Karl keep people away from his ammunition box? By chasing them away with a shotgun of course!
* FirstNameBasis: Nearly everyone in his family refers to him as Karl, even his children and grandchildren.
* DirtyCoward: Played with. Karl keeps himself distant from his entire family in order to protect himself from the Collective, but it's strongly implied that he does this to keep his whole family safe as well. However, when Noah stays at his home for too long, he yells at him to...
* GetOut: Shoves Noah out of his house when he realizes he is a target for the Slender Man.
* GrumpyOldMan: Oh, definitely. The trauma of meeting Slender Man during WWII has definitely made Karl into this.
* IHaveNoDaughter: The moment Mary Asher tells Karl that she can see "Mr. Slim", he immediately disowns her. He also refuses to allow her to inherit Sebastian's journal after he dies, [[JustifiedTrope although this is likely because he knows how dangerous it would be to give her such a powerful tome]].
** Played with regarding Milo Asher. While Karl hasn't properly disowned him like he did with Mary (although considering the fact that she's his mother, that doesn't say much for their relationship), he certainly has [[ForgottenFallenFriend a lot of trouble recognizing him]] as his grandson in the Submission videos. It's later emphasized in Milo's entry "will" where he simply refers to him as "the child".
* [[ForgottenFallenFriend Forgotten Fallen Grandson]]: While warning Noah about Slender Man, Karl mentions that in his videos, he saw that Slendy was watching "Noah's friend". Yeah, not Milo Asher, not Noah's cousin, not his ''own grandson'', but just "Noah's friend". SanitySlippage at it's finest, ladies and gentlemen. It's even ''worse'' in Milo's entry "will", which shows that Karl has only ever referred to the former as "the child".
* NoteFromEd: When Milo discovers Sebastian Kraus's journal, he finds that Karl scratched out Sebastian's name and put his own in his place. This indicates that Karl may have written his own thoughts in Sebastian's journal after reading it fully. however, Rendezvous!Noah explains that the journal's power only works for its owner, so Karl may have only done this in order to make himself the new owner.
* OffingTheOffspring: Came ''dangerously'' close to doing this to Milo after the latter finds the ammunition box. [[WellIntentionedExtremist Likely because he doesn't want anyone touching Sebastian's journal]].
* {{Omniglot}}: Spoke fluently in German, French, Russian, and English during World War II and a few years afterward. Sadly, his SanitySlippage caused him to lose the ability to speak all of them but German, resulting in Noah [[EloquentInMyNativeTongue having no idea what he's saying]] when he visits him until [[TranslatorBuddy Kevin]] translates what he says.
* ParentalFavoritism: Downplayed. While Karl clearly doesn't care much for either of his daughters, it's implied that he liked Sharon slightly more than Mary (enough to not disown her at least).
* RetiredBadass: Used to work for the OSS, and ''attempted to kill Slender Man'' during that time. It comes at the cost of him becoming a ShellShockedVeteran for the rest of his life.
* SanitySlippage: Mary claimed that he started out fairly sane and normal, only to forget his English and become more crazed and paranoid over time, going to the point of nearly killing a seven-year old Milo Asher. Noah's mother also stated that he suffers from age-related dementia. However, given the things he witnessed and the strangeness surrounding the family, it's beginning to look like his paranoia is completely justified....
* SecretKeeper: Hides the journal and knife belonging to Sebastian Kraus. [[{{Determinator}} And it doesn't look like he's giving it up any time soon]].
* ShellShockedVeteran: What's more traumatizing than fighting in World War II? Having an encounter with Slender Man ''while'' fighting in World War II, that's what.
* SkewedPriorities: Rather than rescue his own wife from drowning in the ocean after the boat they were on capsized, Karl instead chooses to search for Sebastian's journal. This ultimately results in Sonia Maxwell's death, [[JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope and also leads to him becoming the shut-in recluse we see in My Grandfather Karl]].
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Refuses to talk to or see Noah, Mary Asher, or other members of his family for the sake of his own safety.

!!Mary Asher
[[quoteright:226:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mary_asher.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:226:One life had to be sacrificed to save our family from this plague.]]
Milo's mother, Mary is known to have had mental problems since she was a child. It is revealed she has known the Slender Man since she was a child, referring to him as "Mr. Slim". She also knew Dr. Corenthal when he treated Milo as a child, and was a member of The Order, a cult first seen in the logs of ''WebVideo/DarkHarvest''. She was confirmed dead in "Obituary".
----

* AbusiveParents: Of the ParentalNeglect kind. In Milo's entry "hate", it's discovered that Mary interacts with Milo very little during his early childhood, preferring to watch TV, smoke, talk on the phone, and go to a Friday book club (aka: meetings held by The Order) by herself. She also refuses to allow Milo to have friends over, and actually ''grounds'' him [[DisproportionateRetribution for inviting Kevin over to his house]].
** It only gets worse from there: Mary finally takes Milo to an Order meeting in "club", and simply watches as the cult ''drinks her son's blood'' in order to induct him into their ranks.
** And let's not forget that in Milo's Tape, it's implied that Mary only even conceived Milo in the first place so that she could avoid her own death by ''[[OffingTheOffspring sacrificing him to Slender Man]]''. Mr. Scars angrily lampshades this while confronting her.
* AllWomenAreLustful: Milo's entries confirm that Mary had many boyfriends after Robert Asher's death. It's implied she used them to try to try and conceive another child (or more), only for them to all end in miscarriages.
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: Mary's treatment of Milo consists of her [[ParentalNeglect refusing to take care of him]], allowing a ReligionOfEvil to use him as a tool for understanding more about their god, forcing him to take pills that wipe his memories, and only leaving behind one stale slice of birthday cake for him to eat on his 18th birthday. She's also committed literal arson and murder, but sadly no confirmation on any jaywalking yet.
* AssholeVictim: Is ultimately shot by Mr. Scars in Milo's Tape, but very few people seem to care about her death after this is revealed in Obituary.
* BabyFactory: Mary attempted to become this be sleeping with many other men, likely to sacrifice to Slender Man. It's unfortunately averted, as all of her impregnations ended as miscarriages.
* BigNo: Her reaction to learning that Milo is Mr. Scars.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: ''''Absolutely''''. From conceiving and using her own son Milo to try and gain more knowledge about Slender Man (and then drugging him so that he doesn't remember it), to murdering all her ex-husbands out of paranoia, it's clear that Mary cares about nothing that doesn't involve herself.
* BoomHeadshot: How she's killed.
* CainAndAbel: Serves as the Cain to Sharon Maxwell's Abel. Mary and Sharon have had a very rough history with each other since childhood, stemming from the fact that Mary can see Slender Man whereas Sharon cannot.
* ChekhovsGunman: Implied to be a lifelong candidate for the Collective, and is revealed to be Cursor's host.
* DeathBySecretIdentity: Finds out who Mr. Scars is literally ''seconds'' before her death.
* DivorceRequiresDeath: It's strongly hinted that she killed her first husband and then her second husband (John Fletcher) out of paranoia.
* DoomedByCanon: Will eventually be killed by Mr. Scars.
** Her death is confirmed in "Obituary": she was found in her submerged car with a bullet hole in her chest -- and x-shaped bandages covering her eyes.
* DeathByIrony: Mary only had Milo in the first place so she could sacrifice him to "Mr. Slim", believing she could end the family "curse" and prevent her own death at the hands of the Collective; instead, Milo was resurrected as the Collective Member Mr. Scars -- her prophesied killer.
* DidntSeeThatComing: Mary was constantly on edge when it comes to all the men that she meets, as she's aware that any one of them could be Mr. Scars, the one destined to kill her. She never considered the idea of her ''own son'' being that man.
* EvilIsBurningHot: Kills her husband Robert and nearly murders Noah's family through house fires.
* EvilMatriarch: Sure, she's no EldritchAbomination, but Mary is probably one of the most vile characters in the entire series. If the murders of her two husbands don't spell it out for you, then the hellish life she gave her own son definitely will.
* HarassingPhoneCall: Mary calls Noah out of the blue after he spent months trying to call her, explaining her past with the Slender Man and that Mr. Scars is going to kill her (and for some reason, assumes that Noah knows who he really is.)
* HatedByAll: And within her own family too! To elaborate: Her father, Karl Maxwell disowned her at a young age once she told him she could see Slender Man, her second husband John Fletcher divorces her five years after they are married with very few positive things to say about her, Kevin Haas heavily disliked her due to her dismissive and nasty attitude towards him, Alex Maxwell (Noah's father) apparently had a run-in with Mary after she assumed he was attacking her, her own son Milo ends up murdering her in cold blood as Mr. Scars after [[CallingTheOldWomanOut calling out every terrible thing she did to him]] (although he does show quite a bit of regret about her murder), and Noah's future self regards Mary as a fucking asshole, and a terrible selfish woman to live under. Not even Mary's sister Sharon cries during her funeral.
* HateSink: [[AbusiveParents Take]] [[ManipulativeBitch a]] [[ItsAllAboutMe guess]] [[NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist why]].
* InadequateInheritor: Karl refuses to allow Mary to inherit Sebastian's Journal during the events of "will". Justified, as Karl likely knows how dangerous it would be to allow someone like [[BitchInSheepsClothing Mary]] to gain access to it.
* {{Irony}}: Mary was informed of her future death at the hands of Mr. Scars apparently a very long time before it happened, and devoted her life to desperately trying to prevent it. So far, the only being shown to be capable of genuinely derailing the Collectives plans to take a new member is Firebrand. Except one of Mary's attempts to save herself was having Milo, with the intent of him being a sacrifice in her place, and with her being abusive and neglectful to him throughout his life. And since Firebrand was Noah, and clearly still cares very deeply about his cousin...not only did Mary's attempts to prevent her death result in her giving birth to her killer, her actions also ensured that the only person who could stop it would hate her enough to ''want'' her to die.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Mary cares about nothing more than her own guaranteed safety from Slender Man, and could care less about what the rest of her family goes through in her place. It makes her death listed below all the more satisfying to watch.
* KarmicDeath: After neglecting and abusing Milo all of his life, while doing everything she can to escape from her inevitable death, there's no denying how satisfying it is to finally see her die by his hands in Milo's Tape.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: After getting away with abusing her son (whom she only gave birth to for selfish reasons), the murder of two of her former husbands, and her attempt to kill the Maxwell Family in a house fire, she finally gets the death she had been dreading for years at the hands of her own son.
* KilledOffForReal: By her ''own son'', no less!
* TheKillerInMe: She is believed to have murdered both her ex-husbands, mistakenly believing they were Mr. Scars.
* KinslayingIsASpecialKindOfEvil: She kills both Robert Asher and John Fletcher, and nearly burns down the Maxwell family’s house out of paranoia. Of all her terrible crimes, this and her treatment of Milo are the ones Noah (and fans) hate her for the most.
* MarkOfTheSupernatural: Milo notes that Mary had Severance cut into her hand for an unknown reason. When John Fletcher brings it up at dinner, she goes silent, indicating that receiving it was a traumatic experience.
* ManipulativeBitch: Used her own son as a tool for learning more about Slender Man.
* MissingMom: After Milo's funeral.
* MortalityPhobia: Given her poor treatment of Milo and her murders of both John Fletcher and Robert Asher, Mary ''definitely'' seems to have one. Unfortunately for her, her death at the hands of Mr. Scars is part of a long series of events that have to happen in order to stop Slender Man.
* NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist: Mary consistently justifies her affiliation with the Order, the murders of Robert Asher and John Fletcher, and her horrid actions and treatment of Milo as her trying to find a way to get rid of the Slender Man who has plagued the Asher-Maxwell families for decades. However, it becomes ''very'' clear in Season 2 that she cares about nothing more than her own self-preservation, and couldn't care less about what terrible fate the rest of her family has to suffer in her place.
* ParentalAbandonment: Was disowned by her father the moment he discovered she could see Slender Man. It's unknown what her relationship with her mother was, but it couldn't have been that great either.
* ParentalNeglect: See Abusive Parents.
* PosthumousCharacter: Becomes this in Season 2 as Noah (and the viewers) read Milo's journal on the Maxwell Archive. By this point, Mary had been dead since 2013.
* ProperlyParanoid: Mary has attempted to kill nearly every male figuree she meets out of fear that they could be Mr. Scars. Unfortunately, it would appear that she wasn't paranoid ''enough'', as she ends up getting murdered by him sometime in 2013.
* PyroManiac: Mary's main method of trying to kill people seems to be out through trying to light their house on fire while they're still in it.
* ReligionOfEvil: She is (or ''was'') a member of [[WebVideo/DarkHarvest a Slender Man-worshipping cult.]] (It's hinted that she only joined because she thought they could provide her more information about "Mr. Slim"... such as how he could be destroyed.)
* SanitySlippage: As her attempts to evade Slender Man start failing, she becomes increasingly more fearful and erratic, eventually going on the run and disappearing from the public eye.
* SelfFulfillingProphecy: All of her horrible treatment of Milo was done with the goal of discovering the identity of Mr. Scars, her prophecized killer, so she could save herself. In fact, that was the only reason she even ''had'' Milo in the first place. Turns out Milo ''is'' Mr. Scars, and all the resentment built up over all those years of abuse and neglect made it real easy for him to pull the trigger when the time came.

!!Sebastian Kraus
A Nazi who Karl encountered in 1944. He was being chased by the Slender Man and was killed, but his journal which contained a record of an unseen historic event ended up in Karl's hands. He's also revealed to be Swain.]]
----
* CoolMask: If Karl's belongings are anything to go by, he owned a solid white theater mask during his time as a Nazi. As Swain, he wears this mask 24/7.
* {{Ghostapo}}: May well have been this.
* ChekhovsGunman: Sebastian probably fits this trope more than any other character in the series. He's the original owner (and thus, ''author'') of the journal that the Collective wants so badly, has witnessed an event that no one else knows about in the present day, and met Karl Maxwell, who now keeps his journal under tight lock-and-key. And to top it all off, it turns out that he's Swain's host.
* HeKnowsTooMuch: Possibly the reason why he's dead.
* KilledOffForReal: Although Sebastian himself is a mystery, the one thing we know about him is that he's definitely dead by now.
* PosthumousCharacter: Although Sebastian has been dead for a very long time, his journal is of relative importance to the Collective. Hence the reason why they pester Noah until he obtains it from Karl.
* ThoseWackyNazis: HABIT confirms that he was a Nazi, and that he worked with him on an important project during WWII.
* TheWoobie: WordOfGod says that Sebastian's life is just as, if not ''more'' tragic than Milo Asher's.

!!Robert Asher
Milo's biological father, who died shortly after Milo was born. Although it was reported that his death was the cause of a house fire, many people suspect that it was Mary Asher.
----
* BackFromTheDead: Implied. During INTERCEPTION, Firebrand mentions that Noah will have to send Robert Milo or Sebastian's journal, even though Noah claims that he died in a house fire shortly after Milo was born. Milo's journal ultimately confirms that he's alive.
* ChekhovsGunman: According to Firebrand, Noah will find something of Robert's in Mary Asher's safe, and will have to send him either Milo or Sebastian's journal.
* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest: Chances are he would've been a wonderful, loving father to Milo Asher if he were still alive.
* DisappearedDad: Thanks to Mary Asher.
* TheGhost: He's the only member of the Asher family who has never been seen on camera. Noah claims that he doesn't even know what he looks like.
* NiceGuy: According to John Fletcher, Robert was a genuinely great guy, and a good friend to him.
* ParentalAbandonment: Not his fault, though.

!!Henka Visæ
A high-ranking member of The Order who recruited Mary Asher into the Southern chapter of it's rankings. In Milo's journal, it's revealed that he's actually the host of the Collective member Deadhead.
----
* AffablyEvil: In spite of being an "archvassal" of a ReligionOfEvil, he speaks to Milo very cordially and respectfully, calmly explaining things about Slender Man that Milo wishes to know about.
* ANaziByAnyOtherName: Considering how old Henka is, plus the fact that his Collective counterpart has the title of "The Nationalist", it's heavily implied that he was working with the Nazis in WWII.
* TheCaptain: Of the boat that capsized when Noah and Milo were children.
* CoolMask: He wears a mask in the shape of a skull, contrasting him from other members of The Order. It's what tips Noah off to who his Collective counterpart is.
* CoolOldGuy: As a child, Milo sees him as this. [[AffablyEvil It's very clear he isn't]].
* EvilMask: Played with. When Milo asks Henka why he wears a SkullForAHead, he claims that it proves his "covenant" with Slender Man. That being said, it seems apparent that while he may have received the mask from Slendy, it doesn't have any other special abilities.
* EvilMentor: Henka informs Milo about the importance surrounding Sebastian's journal, and that Milo is destined to retrieve it.
* EvilOldFolks: As the Wiki points out, if Henka were still alive to this day, he would be over a hundred years old.
* GeniusCripple: The East Coat Manifest reveals that Henka was a hunchback, and also an Archvassal of The Order. It's also possible that Henka knows much more about Slender Man than any of the other Order members do, [[DemBones considering who he ultimately becomes]].
* GratuitousGerman: The Manifest also reveals that Henka was indeed a German citizen. He averts this trope when speaking to Milo however, although he appeared to have had a bit of an accent while speaking English.
* KilledOffForReal: The Overseer implies this happened to him sometime before Noah got wrapped up in Slendy's issues. How and when he died has yet to be discovered.
* NeverFoundTheBody: Henka's corpse was never recovered after the events of the Boat Accident. It's heavily implied that he survived, and began sending Mary pills to sedate Milo.
* SinkingShipScenario: According to Scriniarii, Henka Visaæ was the captain of the boat that capsized during Noah's childhood, resulting in the death of his grandmother.
* SuperDrowningSkills: Subverted. While his body was never recovered after the Boat Incident, it's implied that Henka survived the Boat Incident, and has been the one delivering pills to Mary Asher for Milo to take.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Humans (minor)]]
!!John Fletcher
Mary's ex-husband who Noah contacts regarding her whereabouts. He seems to be a nice guy who cared for both Mary and Milo, despite their mental issues.
----
* FriendToAllChildren: He's one of the few ex-boyfriends of Mary Asher who actually seems to care about Milo. He tells him stories about his father Robert, and feels genuinely bad when he finds out he committed suicide.
* FirstNameBasis: Zig-zagged with Milo, who flips between this, and simply calling him "dad".
* NiceGuy: One of the very few members of Noah's "family" who seems to care about more than just his own hide. Milo even says that he loves him in "dishonest", and hopes that Mary isn't cheating on him with another man.
* RedShirt: He is killed off-screen, likely by Mary.
* OnlySaneMan: He's one of the few people Noah meets who's kept a clear head during the Asher-Maxwell conflict, and is the only boyfriend of Mary's who truly cares about her wellbeing.
* ParentalSubstitute: Serves as a loving stepfather towards Milo, showing him compassion where [[DisappearedDad Robert]] and [[AbusiveParents Mary]]
* TheVoice: Never appears onscreen, but is heard over the phone in A Phone Call With John Fletcher.

!!Edward O'Connor
An old friend of Noah's from school who happens to be very knowledgable with technology. Noah invites him over to analyze the device that the Collective left in his room.
----
* ChekhovsGunman: Given that his dad was once heavily involved with the Order, Edward's role in the series is likely much larger than initially expected.
* TheEngineer: Having worked at his father's electronic store, Edward knows more about electronics than Pablo Picasso knows how to paint, according to Noah.
* ReligionOfEvil: Not Edward himself, but his dad is revealed to have been a member of The Order sometime during the mid-80's.

!!Sonia Maxwell
Karl's wife, and grandmother to Noah and Milo. During the Boat Accident, she drowns in the ocean alongside her grandson Tommy after Karl unfastened her life vest.
----
* TheGhost: Similar to Robert, she's the only member of the Maxwell family whose face is never seen in the series.
* PosthumousCharacter: She's long dead before Noah even creates his Website/YouTube channel, but her death is implied to have caused Karl to become even crazier than he was before.
* TheQuietOne: Milo describes her as being "quiet and strict" in the entry "grandpa".
* SuperDrowningSkills: Sonia was one of the two lives lost during the Boat Accident, the other being Noah and Milo's cousin Tommy.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: Almost nothing about her character is revealed before the aforementioned boat accident.

!!Tommy Henderson
A cousin of both Noah and Milo who was very close to the latter. He drowns during the Boat Accident alongside his grandmother Sonia.
----
* SuperDrowningSkills: Although his father and the authorities try to revive Tommy, he unfortunately drowns in the ocean alongside his grandmother.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: Aside from a few entries where he's shown playing with Noah and Milo, very little is known about Tommy before his death.

!!Sharon Maxwell
Noah's mother and Milo's aunt. Although she is of little importance to the main series, she's involved in some important events that the Collective have orchestrated.
----
* CainAndAbel: Serves as the Abel to Mary's Cain. Sharon and her sister have had a very rough history with each other since childhood, stemming from the fact that Mary can see Slender Man whereas Sharon cannot. It becomes worse once they reach adulthood, where Sharon dismisses her sister as a "crazy bitch" when Noah asks about her, and doesn't even shed a tear at her funeral.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Again, the responsible to Mary's foolish.
* JewishMother: Like her son, she's also Jewish. When Noah begins asking questions about the house fire he was involved in as a child, Sharon begins asking her son lots of questions, clearly concerned for her son.
* ParentalObliviousness: She and her husband Alex are completely unaware that Noah has been investigating Milo's suicide and uploading his findings onto Website/YouTube.

!!Alex Maxwell
Noah's father and Milo's uncle. Like his wife Sharon, Alex's role in the series is minor, but he's witnessed important events that shaped the series for the long run.
----
* CampingEpisode: He takes Noah and Milo out for a camping trip in 2007.
* MeaningfulName: It can't be a coincidence that he shares the name of one of the main characters in WebVideo/MarbleHornets, while his son fights against the same creature that the same protagonist encountered.
* NiceGuy: He clearly cares for both Noah and Milo, and even takes them out camping in 2007.
* ObnoxiousInLaws: Alex does not think highly of either Karl Maxwell or Mary Asher. The latter in particular actually ''attacked'' him at one point, due to believing that he was Mr. Scars.
* ParentalObliviousness: He and his wife Sharon are completely unaware that Noah has been investigating Milo's suicide and uploading his findings onto Website/YouTube.
* SupernaturalProofFather: Out of all of Noah's immediate family members, Alex is by far the least associated with Slender Man and the Collective. The closest he even gets to seeing him was during the house fire, in which he mistook him for an FBI agent who looked like "a Kojak wannabe".

!!Sarah
Noah's friend (and Website/YouTube follower) who invites him to stay with her during Thanksgiving break. However, the influence of the Collective follows, leading to Sarah becoming involved with the Noah's problems for a while.
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: In the Thanksgiving two-parter, she handles Noah's video camera and witnesses Noah's moment of madness.
* DistressedDamsel: As evidenced by her Twitter account after Thanksgiving.
%%* InnocentBystander
* KilledOffForReal: She is taken by Slender Man and later confirmed to have been killed when Noah finds her obituary.
* OhCrap: She calls Noah during his Valentines day livestream and reveals the Slender Man has been stalking her.
* RealLifeWritesThePlot: Bad blood between Adam Rosner and the actress who played Sarah led to delays in filming, and finally led him to re-write the final part of the Thanksgiving Day footage so her character doesn't appear on-camera.

!!Kat
Sarah's friend who appears in the Thanksgiving two-parter. She is murdered by a crazed Noah off-camera, and her death is made to look like a suicide.]]
----
%%* GenkiGirl
%%* GogglesDoNothing
* GoryDiscretionShot: Her murder occurs entirely offscreen, showing us only the bloody aftermath (in the form of Noah's torn, blood-splattered tee shirt).
%%* InnocentBystander
* KilledOffForReal: By Noah.

!!Jeremy
A former classmate of Milo Asher's during his childhood. Although the two were friends at first, he dismisses Milo's concerns about Slender Man's appearances, and begins mercilessly bullying him.
----
* FromTheMouthsOfBabes: Milo reveals in his journal that Jeremy called Milo a "shithead" while beating him up on the playground one day. Keep in mind that Milo is only seven years old, and since the two attended the same school, Jeremy can't be that much older.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: WordOfGod has confirmed that sometime after bullying Milo, Jeremy became a convicted felon.
* KidsAreCruel: '''''Oh hell yes'''''. After Milo tells Jeremy about seeing "the big man", he immediately seizes the opportunity to make Milo's school years a living hell alongside his other classmates. This ranges from taunting and humiliating him to physically beating him up.

!!The Collective
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_collective.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:WE ARE ALL CAUGHT IN HIS WEB.\
AND THE WEB CONSUMES US ALL.]]
A group of powerful proxies who do the Slender Man's dirty work. They each have their own assignments and separate goals. The members that are seen above are, from left to right, Mr. Scars, Cursor, Persolus, the Observer, Deadhead, Swain, and Firebrand. The driving force of the plot involves them needing the journal of Karl Maxwell, as it is the last piece of the puzzle for their plans for Humanity. Tropes applying the Collective as a whole include:
----
* ADarkerMe: They more or less are darker, scarier, and more screwed-up versions of their original host bodies.
* AllAreEqualInDeath: Averted. Members who died before joining the Collective actually have ''less'' power than those who joined while they were still alive.
* AndIMustScream: It's been implied that joining the Collective is ''not'' a pleasant experience.
* AppropriatedAppellation: They have no names other than the nicknames humans have given them, which they have adopted for the sake of convenience.
* BigScrewedUpFamily: More than half of the members minus Slender Man are related to each other (Cursor, Firebrand, Persolus, and Mr. Scars), or in the very least knew each other before joining (Swain, Deadhead, & Observer). In spite of this, the Observer makes it pretty clear that very few of them actually get along with each other.
* DarkIsEvil: They often appear as darkened silhouettes in their realm, and it's definitely not for show.
** DarkIsNotEvil: While some members are definitely malevolent, others seem to be actively working to help Noah escape his fate.
* ClockRoaches: Played with. Rendezvous!Noah reveals that if he or anyone else were to reveal something they shouldn't, the Collective would promptly jump back in time and MakeWrongWhatOnceWentRight. However, since [[SpannerInTheWorks Firebrand]] has messed with the flow of time so much, not even they know what's going to happen next. Thus, they're counting on Noah to make a mistake that allows them to fix the things Firebrand messed up.
* DeliberatelyMonochrome: Any video that the Collective uploads onto Noah's channel is this. According to WordOfGod, it's due to the fact that we're seeing the events through the Collective's eyes.
* DemonicPossession: Each member is actually a spirit controlling an innocent victim. However, as demonstrated with Firebrand, the degree to which they are being controlled seems to vary.
* EliteMooks: There are Slenderman's proxies, and then there are ''these'' guys.
* EldritchAbomination: Their faces may look familiar, but no Collective member is truly human after they join. Firebrand downright calls themselves "puppets meant to manipulate [our] world through mortal vessels".
* EvilIsOneBigHappyFamily: Averted. While it's indeed true that more than half of the members (Mr. Scars, Firebrand, Cursor, and Persolus) are related by blood, a few lines from the Observer imply that they can't stand each other. Judging by what each member went through before being inducted into the Collective, their hatred for each other is completely justified.
* EyeMotifs: For whatever reason, the Collective seems to be in love with the concept of sight, [[EyesDoNotBelongThere with eyes appearing frequently in places they shouldn't]], and is often used as vague symbolism in their videos. Hell, their calling card, the Rune of Severance, consists of two perfectly symmetrical intersecting eyes.
* FantasticTimeManagement: According to the Observer, time flows non-linearly in the Collective's realm, allowing them to jump back and forth through time whenever they want or need to. The only reason why the Collective doesn't abuse this power frequently is due to Firebrand messing up the timeline enough to prevent them from seeing things clearly.
* GratuitousForeignLanguage: Played with. Although the Collective are capable of speaking any language they need to (as the Observer demonstrates on Formspring), most members tend to speak in their native tongues of either German or English.
* HiveMind: Although they each still have individual personalities.
* MindRape: They ''love'' doing this to their victims. And it's implied that they suffer this as well.
%%* MoreThanThreeDimensions
* MyFutureSelfAndMe: Some members of the Collective are consistently aiding their past selves, rather than just using them as hosts like the Observer does. The best examples of this are Firebrand (who is helping Noah fight against Slender Man), Persolus (who guards Sebastian's Journal and prevents anyone from escaping with it), and Mr. Scars (who helps Milo find things in his dreams.)
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Pretty much all of them apply here, but the scariest ones are [[DemBones Deadhead]] and [[FourEyesZeroSoul the Observer]].
* NarniaTime: Time in their realm flows like this, though it often flips between this trope and YearInsideHourOutside.
* {{Only Known By Their Nickname}}s: See AppropriatedAppellation
* OurTimeTravelIsDifferent: It's a little ambiguous as to how or why, but we do know time flows nonlinearly in the Collective's realm.
* PaintingTheMedium: They each use a different font.
* PhotoshopFilterOfEvil: Any video they upload on Noah's channel has this. See DeliberatelyMonochrome up above for more details.
* {{Reality Warper}}s: Depending on how much power they have, certain members have the ability to do this. Firebrand is probably the best example as he's consistently fighting against the Administrator by aiding his past self.
* [[HeWhoMustNotBeSeen They Who Must Not Be Seen]]: So far, the only members whose unobscured faces we've seen are the Observer (Kevin), Firebrand (Noah), Cursor (Mary Asher), and Mr. Scars (Milo). Not counting [[HumanoidAbomination The Administrator, who]] [[TheBlank has no face]] [[HumanoidAbomination to hide, of course.]]
* WasOnceAMan: With the possible exception of the Administrator.

!!The Administrator[=/=][[Franchise/TheSlenderManMythos Slender Man]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_administrator.jpg]]

The EldritchAbomination himself and BigBad of the series. As usual, he is stalking children -- and, in this case Milo and Noah -- but takes a backseat to allow his minion, the Observer, to keep an eye on Noah. He often pops up to scare Noah, and possesses animated CombatTentacles.
----
* AdaptationalBadass: Compared to the other series he's appeared in, this incarnation of Slender Man is quite possibly one of, if not ''the'' most powerful one of all. He’s shown utilizing CombatTentacles with frightening efficiency, has some level of SuperSpeed that can bowl a grown man over, and can shapeshift into a GiantSpider at will.
* AnimalMotifs: As of recently, the Administrator for [[RuleOfScary some reason]] has started to take on the appearance of a GiantSpider while Noah explores the Collective's realm. The Observer saying "WE ARE ALL CAUGHT IN HIS WEB" near the end of DEATHTRAPEXODOUS helps fuel this trope as well.
%%* TheAdjectivalMan
* BadassInANiceSuit: A staple for him.
* BeingWatched: Does this to Noah, Mary, Milo, and possibly Karl and Kevin. Shared with the Observer.
* BigBad: He's at the root of the Asher-Maxwell conflict of the series.
* TheBlank: Naturally, being a variant of the famous Slender Man.
* BrownNote: If Noah or Milo see him, bad things happen.
%%* ByTheEyesOfTheBlind
* ChildEater: Less prevalent than in other series, but it's implied he likes to do this in his spare time.
* CombatTentacles: Definitely one of the most impressive versions of the character, he never appears without flowing black tentacles (which, as we see in close ups, even have ''suction cups'').
* ComicBookMoviesDontUseCodenames: Slender Man is never actually referred to by the name we are all familiar with, instead having several [[InSeriesNickname nicknames]] that people call him (Der Großmann, Mr. Slim, ect.), and has titles that his Collective refer to him as. WordOfGod states that this trope was invoked in order to separate this version of Slendy from other canon sources.
* EldritchAbomination: Not much is known about what it, but the one thing we do know is that Slender Man is ''not'' from this world.
* EvilLaugh: Lets one loose while Noah confronts him in Crawlspace. It’s unnerving as ''hell''.
* GiantSpider: See Voluntary Shapeshifting below.
* HellIsThatNoise: Whenever Slender Man attempts to make vocal noises, he ends up making a horrifying inhuman growling sound. As Mongo, it's replaced by loud, animalistic screeches.
* HiddenInPlainSight: In more ways than one.
* HumanoidAbomination: Usually appears as such, but has the ability to change into other creatures based on what his victims feel.
* IHaveManyNames: The Collective refers to him as the Administrator, the Keeper, the Black King, and onedividedbyzero.
* InSeriesNickName: Karl Maxwell calls Slendy "Der Großmann", German for "the Great/Tall Man" that his grandmother told stories about. Mary Asher refers to him as Mr. Slim for all of her life. Noah casually calls him Daddy Longlegs in DEUS EX MACHINA. [[WebVideo/EverymanHYBRID HABIT]] calls him "Stick-in-the-mud" in his letter to Noah. And Milo refers to him as "the big man" in his journal entries from the 90's, and occasionally in his teen years.
* ImmuneToBullets: Apparently Karl Maxwell and his Allied companions shot at Slender Man multiple times back in World War II, without much success. Noah's attempts in the modern day aren't much better: he shoots Slender Man with a revolver in Mary Asher Phone Call multiple times, but he doesn't so much as flinch when it happens.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Unless they are very young children or are people that he is interested in, Slender Man is capable of being unnoticed by people, or erasing their memories of him if they do see him. He even manages to terrorize ''an entire airplane full of people'' before disappearing and wiping everyone’s memories of the incident just as quickly as it happened.
* LeanAndMean: ''Very'' lean and '''''very''''' mean.
* MeaningfulBackgroundEvent: Keep an eye out for him in various videos.
* MultiArmedAndDangerous: Shown to its fullest extreme in Crawlspace.
* NoodlePeople: And has a whole HiveMind of minions for company.
* OffscreenTeleportation: As expected of him. Possibly hinted to be a case of SuperSpeed (during Noah's attempted fight with him).
* PsychicPowers: Can cause mind screws, including (but not limited to) turning ordinary locations into AlienGeometries and [[TimeMaster manipulating time]].
* SilentAntagonist: As per norm for most Slender Man webseries, the Administrator does not say anything while pursuing Noah during Season 1. Ultimately subverted by Season 2, where he starts making growling noises (and occasionally laughing) when he appears normally, and makes horrifying screeching sounds in his Mongo form.
* UrbanLegends: Karl's grandmother told him stories about how Slender Man would chase after children who ran away into the Black Forest. Unlike most examples of this trope, it seems that they might've been true.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Starting with Sisyphus, Slender Man starts using a GiantSpider transformation (nicknamed Mongo by the creator and fans) in order to terrorize Noah. According to Sisyphus!Noah, Slendy likes to change into a form that terrifies its victims.

!!The Observer
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_observer.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:300:DO YOU KNOW WHAT'S WORSE THAN KNOWING WHEN THE CLOCK STOPS?\
\
'''''NOT KNOWING'''''.]]
More or less the main antagonist of the series, this mysterious and shadowy figure delights in manipulating Noah for his own purposes. He is recognizable by his distinctive thick glasses, long hair and [[SlasherSmile malevolent grin]]. Beyond that, what he looks like is unknown, as he has only ever been seen in {{rotoscoping}}. He is later revealed to be possessing Noah's friend Kevin, who helped translate Karl's German after Noah's first visit to his grandfather.
----
* ArchEnemy: To Noah Maxwell. Though Slender Man may be responsible for everything in general when it comes to the Maxwell-Asher family's misery, the Observer is the one who is constantly terrorizing and antagonizing Noah specifically.
* BerserkButton: Having his broadcast to Noah intercepted by anyone is bound to have him seething with rage.
* BlackEyesOfEvil: Has these under his glasses.
* BodySnatcher: Unlike Firebrand or Persolus, he possesses his past self to use as a host to torment Noah, rather than trying to help him.
* TheCallKnowsWhereYouLive: [[ParanoiaFuel And he can come and visit you whenever he wants]].
* CameraFiend: In Milo's journal entries from 2008, the Observer had apparently been taking pictures of Milo while he slept. Oddly, this trait doesn't show up in the series proper.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: The Observer in Season 1 was very stoic, professional individual who had no comprehension of how humans or their behavior works, and only let his wild side out as part of his scare tactics towards Noah. Fast-forward to Season 2, and the Observer now laughs maniacally every video he appears in, uses modern slang terms of today's pop culture, and actively encourages the viewers to make memes that make fun of Noah's suffering, as he finds them "deadass funny".
* ColdHam: Was initially this in Season 1, courtesy of the Collective's videos and limited appearances. Averted in Season 2, where he starts getting ''very'' loud while fucking with Noah.
* TheCracker: The Observer often hijacks Noah's internet accounts to taunt his victim.
* DeadpanSnarker: Especially on Formspring.
* {{Determinator}}: The Observer will stop at '''nothing''' to ensure Noah both delivers Karl's journal to the Collective, and indoctrinate him into their ranks.
* TheDragon: Noah encounters him just as much, if not more than the Administrator during the course of the series. He's the third most powerful member of the Collective, rivaled only by Firebrand and Slendy himself.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: Midway through Season 2, the Observer does his hair up so that it no longer falls underneath/over his glasses.
* {{Expy}}: The creator of the series based the Observer on Kevin from ''ComicBook/SinCity'', and it's easy to see the similarities between them. Both of them are ([[CharacterizationMarchesOn initially]]) quiet, antagonistic figures with ScaryShinyGlasses who were in some way responsible for the death of someone the main character loved, and they both are in cahoots with a powerful authority figure responsible for their upbringing. Bonus points in that the Observer's host is literally ''named'' Kevin.
* EyesDoNotBelongThere: Facade reveals that the Observer can procure an eye from his ''mouth'' that makes ominous hissing noises when it appears.
* FightingFromTheInside: Kevin seems to be doing this: on the back of the Observer's note from The Live Stream Incident, Noah find a note in Kevin's handwriting begging him to kill him so the Collective can no longer use him as a vessel.
* FourEyesZeroSoul: By far, the most villainous member of the Collective, and the only one who wears glasses.
** NotSoStoic: Despite what he claims, it is obvious that he is extremely pissed with Firebrand for interrupting his broadcast in Interception.
* FreezeFrameBonus: Loves putting these in the videos.
* GoodSmokingEvilSmoking: During ''DEATHTRAPEXODUS'', he is seen smoking and laughing vigorously throughout the whole video.
* TheHeavy: Tends to the one who terrorizes Noah whenever Slender Man isn't present to do so.
* HumansAreMorons: He's not unwilling to insult and call out fans who ask him stupid questions or mock him. In general, he seems to believe this about all humans.
* TheHyena: [[CharacterizationMarchesOn Not prevalent in]] [[TheStoic his earlier appearances]], but he starts laughing hysterically throughout the Fortunes Arc. [[EvilLaugh It's not]] [[LaughingMad funny in]] [[NightmareFuel/TribeTwelve the slightest.]]
* {{Hypocrite}}: In DEATHTRAPEXODUS, the Observer berates Noah for bringing the wrong "present" (this being Milo's journal instead of Sebastian's) to the Collective during the events of the Fortunes Arc. This is despite the fact it was actually the Administrator who decided to take Milo's journal away from Noah in order to incentivize him to come to the Boardwalk of his own free will in the first place.
** While answering questions on Formspring, the Observer claims that he has lost the ability to feel human emotions, such as love, pain, fear, or happiness. This is in spite of the fact that he takes obvious glee in terrorizing Noah, and has an epic VillainousBreakdown when Firebrand intercepts his broadcast to Noah. He also has a strong affinity for the memes that viewers post about Noah, finding them legitimately hysterical.
* HiddenInPlainSight: Does this like his master.
* IHaveManyNames: The Observer was previously called the Sentinel. He switched to the Observer since that's what Noah and the fans call him on the Internet.
* IShallTauntYou: The Observer certainly has no qualms with mocking Noah both in Collective videos in Season 1, and in person during Season 2.
** He takes it up a notch in Facade, where he not only mocks Noah, but the ''viewers'' as well. If one reverses (and in one case, speeds up) the video in certain sections, you hear the Observer mock those who bothered to reverse the video, dismissing them as "fucking nerds".
* IncrediblyObviousBug: Sets up a device in Noah's house to spy on him.
* JerkAss: Whereas the other Collective members are simply mysterious (as in even being AffablyEvil), the Observer delights in being sadistic and cruel.
* JumpScare: Oh, ''yes''. It's like a hobby of his.
* LargeHam: His videos are chock full of this, with big scrawly letters shaking all over as creepy videos and images appear. When he [[SuddenlyVoiced finally starts speaking]] in Season 2, he proves that he can certainly pull off a good EvilLaugh.
* NightmareFace: Has about three of these.
* {{Omniglot}}: The Observer can speak any language that he needs to in order to communicate with others. However, he seldom does this, only utilizing this ability to communicate with fans of the series who speak in different tongues.
* NoPunctuationPeriod: Exaggerated. Not only does the Observer not use any punctuation in his online messages, but he also rarely ever uses the space bar. The few times he does, it's to separate entire sentences rather than words. When a fan asked him why he does this, he claimed it's because it's "easier" for him, and that the realm he's in "has no space".
* NotSoAboveItAll: Despite claiming that he can't feel any kind of emotion on Formspring, the Observer admits to fans in reverse that he likes when they make fun of Noah online, saying that he finds the memes "deadass funny".
* PrecisionFStrike: He lets one out when he's berating Noah for bringing the wrong gift in ''DEATHTRAPEXODUS''. He also does this when Firebrand disrupts his private video to Noah.
* SanitySlippage: During Season One, the Observer usually stays quite calm and collected as he taunts Noah constantly. However, during INTERCEPTION and DEATHTRAPEXODUS, Observer is shown swearing openly, as well as manically laughing more than before. He even starts smoking cigarettes as he laughs!
* ScaryBlackMan: He's the only African-American member of the Collective, and he's ''by far'' the most terrifying.
* ScaryShinyGlasses: One of his defining traits. It also clearly differentiates Kevin from the Observer, as the Observer's glasses are always seen with a white layer covering the lenses, whereas Kevin's glasses just look like regular glasses. As of "Facade", they now belong to Noah, who clobbered the Observer upside the head, knocking them off, and then used Severance to send the Observer away.
* SlasherSmile: He's one of the more prominent smilers of Slendy's workforce, the other being Firebrand.
* SpellMyNameWithAThe: He's the only Collective member sans The Administrator to have "the" as part of his name.
* StalkerWithoutACrush: Despite hints of HoYay showing up in his messages to Noah, the Observer has made it adamantly clear to fans that he is incapable of feeling romantic or sexual thoughts. And yet, his persistence in following and watching everything Noah does is immeasurable.
* StrawNihilist: The Observer consistently promotes the idea that resistance against the Administrator is futile, and seems dismissive of the society that humans have. Justified, as he was created by Slender Man, who likely holds the same values and ideas.
* SuddenlyVoiced: With the exception of one scene where he laughs while Noah runs from the Order, he doesn't utter a single word while terrorizing Noah. He finally starts talking come Crawlspace however.
* ThatManIsDead: Implied. He doesn't react to Noah calling him Kevin during the events of Crawlspace, and seems to consider himself as nothing more than a Collective member.
* TheDogWasTheMastermind: Kevin is briefly introduced as a friend to Noah. Turns out he is the host of the Observer.
* TokenMinority: The Observer is the only African-American member amongst the predominantly white German/American men (and one woman) that make up the Collective.
* UndyingLoyalty: He's the only Collective member so far who actively shows interest in obeying Slender Man. [[JustifiedTrope Though this likely stems from the fact that his mind was created by him in the first place]].
* VillainousBreakdown: Has an ''epic'' one when Firebrand hijacks his latest video for Noah.

!!Firebrand
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/firebrand.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:I belong, and yet I don't. An abomination of existence. Trapped in this awful form.]]
Firebrand is a member of the Collective who appeared in front of Noah on November 11th, and is recognized for his pinhole eyes and smile. He is called "The Stubborn." He stops the Observer from taking Noah on 11/11/12 and hijacked the video INTERCEPTION, [[OminousMessageFromTheFuture revealing information about the journal]]. The Livestream Incident reveals that he is Noah, from either the future or a separate timeline.
----
* {{Antihero}}: Unscrupulus Hero (Type IV). While he has allied himself with Noah, that doesn't mean he hasn't [[WebVideo/EverymanHYBRID committed terrible acts]] to get to this point. Lampshaded in Milo's entry "summoning", where he identifies himself as a "shadow", and moves Milo's shot glass between the Yes and No options on the Oujia Board.
* BadassArmFold: At the end of The Live Stream Incident video.
* BadPowersGoodPeople: Firebrand considers himself to be a "rogue god" that shouldn't exist, but does. In spite of this, he does his best to help Noah battle Slender Man.
* BerserkButton: Mistreating Scriniarii is a big one for him, [[TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou as the TT fandom found out the hard way]].
* BigDamnHeroes: Rescues [[MyFutureSelfAndMe himself]] during The Live Stream Incident and Fortunes.
* BlackBeadEyes: Described as "pinhole eyes".
* BriefcaseFullOfMoney: Gives this to Mr. Scars plus a gun in Milo's Tape. He later sends Mr. Scars to deliver the case to Noah.
* ChekhovsGunman: He first appears in November 11th, where many assumed he was merely helping the Observer kidnap Noah. We later learn in The Live Stream Incident, that he actually ''is'' Noah, but from an alternate timeline.
* CursedWithAwesome: As an unbound Collective member, Firebrand is considered to be the closest thing to a PhysicalGod, without actually being under Slender Man's control. That being said, Firebrand admits in DEUS EX MACHINA that he is "something that shouldn't be", and it's implied that getting to and/or being in his position is not as pleasant of an experience one would think.
* DeadpanSnarker: Fitting, considering who his host is. Perfect example: after he ends up giving Noah several thousand dollars in cash, his advice is, "Try not to spend it all."
** After Noah reveals that he chucked his camera into the river on Twitter, Firebrand returns it to him in a cardboard box, and tells Noah "wow dude, littering is bad for the environment what the fuck."
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: Does this literally as the Administrator is about to collect Noah in his sleep. [[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome It shocks the hell out of him so much that he puts away his]] CombatTentacles [[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments and tilts his head in confusion]].
* {{Determinator}}: As "The Stubborn", he never gave up even after becoming part of the Collective.
* EnemyMine: To free himself from the Administrator's control, he made an unwilling alliance with [[WebVideo/EverymanHYBRID HABIT]] (who he describes as "a loathsome entity with mutual interests").
* EyesDoNotBelongThere: As seen in the picture above, Firebrand has two eyes in the palms of his hands. How he got them is unknown, but it's likely for the best that we don't find out.
* FreezeFrameBonus: Like the Observer, he likes leaving hidden messages in Noah's videos, usually in the last frame.
** At the end of "Extraordinary Circumstances" when Firebrand appears in the doorway to Noah's room, the words "HELLO EVERYBODY" are briefly superimposed over a picture on Noah's desk.
* FutureMeScaresMe: Noah is understandably horrified to learn that Firebrand is a future version of himself who joined the Collective.
** IHatePastMe: He's used several insults to berate Noah throughout the series, including but not limited to "ungrateful fuck", "sour kraut", and "fucking pissbaby".
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: His pinhole eyes, which are devoid of any emotion.
%%* HaveANiceDaySmile
* HeelFaceTurn: Maybe.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: Despite being on Noah's side, Firebrand is shown leaving cryptic fortune cookies and making vines that mock a mentally unstable Noah. He later tries to give advice to Noah again during ''DEATHTRAPEXODUS'', only to get interrupted once more by the Observer. Then, he decides to make SCRINARII, which is essentially a huge TheReasonYouSuckSpeech towards all of Noah's viewers for inactivity and banning Scrinarii.
* HelpYourselfInTheFuture: Firebrand's entire objective in the series is to assist Noah in avoiding the fate he suffered in his timeline, both through giving him advice on how to advance forward, and through occasionally interfering with the Collective's plans to hinder them. Unfortunately, Noah isn't exactly the most trusting of individuals, making this objective much harder for Firebrand than necessary.
* HeroicSacrifice: So far, the journal that the Collective are after has been the very thing protecting him from their wrath. He intends to have it delivered to Noah.
* HopeSpot: Provides one when he hacks into the Observer's video to protect Noah.
* ImmuneToFate: He may have been unwillingly indoctrinated into the Collective, but that didn't stop him from using his god-like powers to fight against Slender Man and his cohorts.
%%* MyFutureSelfAndMe
* MeaningfulName: The word "firebrand" is used to describe as "a person who is passionate about a particular cause, typically inciting change and taking radical action". Makes sense, considering that his title is "The Stubborn", and that his host is a future version of Noah.
* MysteriousProtector: Serves as this for both Noah and a younger Milo.
* NightmareFace: Played with. While his official picture seen above might imply that he's this trope played straight, Firebrand himself actually has a pretty normal-looking face, actually looking younger and healthier than the current Noah is.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: He directly criticizes Noah's viewers in SCRINIARII for inactivity and banning Scriniarii, something that he never does (or has done since then) normally. It's also one of the few videos in which we ''don't'' see his [[HaveANiceDaySmile signature thin smile]].
* PerpetualSmiler: Is almost always seen with a thin smile on his face.
* PrecisionFStrike: Part of the final clincher as to Firebrand's true identity. "YOU'RE FUCKING WELCOME."
** Also in his second tweet to Noah: "I'm trying to save you, you ungrateful ''fuck''."
* RedFilterOfDoom: The lighting of the videos turn reddish-orange when Firebrand appears.
* ScrewDestiny: Leading to HeelFaceTurn.
* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness: Firebrand likes to use a ''lot'' of big words to describe what's going on and what he's doing, especially in videos like DEATHTRAPEXODUS, and journal entries like "tapes". This is revealed to be intentional: Rendezvous!Noah reveals that if he tells Noah what he's planning straight up, he's also telling the ''Collective'' what he's planning, which will allow them to jump back in time and stop him.
* SlasherSmile: Always has one.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Firebrand is the only thing that's preventing the rest of the Collective from simply taking what they want from Noah.
%%* StepfordSmiler
* TomatoInTheMirror: At first, Noah believes Firebrand is nothing more than another member of the Collective out for his blood. As it turns out, Noah actually ''is'' Firebrand, just from an alternate future.
* WalkingSpoiler: Has been this ever since ''INTERCEPTION''.
* WeaponizedTeleportation: Downplayed. Rendezvous!Noah reveals to the current Noah that Noah's inexplicable teleporting throughout the Collective's realm is Firebrand's doing: specifically to prevent the Observer and Slender Man from capturing him at inopportune times.
* WhatTheHellHero: He directly criticizes Noah's fans for being inactive and for banning Scriniarii in the video of the same name. He also roasts Noah on Twitter after the latter had threatened his fans that he would mock them as he makes their lives a living hell.
* YouAreNotAlone: Gives a pep talk to Noah when he interrupts the Observer's message (INTERCEPTION).

!!Deadhead
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/deadhead.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:''Auf Wiedersehen''.]]
A member of the Collective that wears a skull mask and hood. He is known to have followed Sebastian Kraus. He is known as "The Nationalist." In Milo's journal entry "boat", he's revealed to be none other than Henka Visæ, the one who recruited Mary Asher into The Order.
----
* AffablyEvil: He writes in cursive handwriting, and is very calm and cordial while speaking.
* ANaziByAnyOtherName: He is named after a German term, known as the Nationalist, existed in World War II, stalked Sebastian, and is currently stalking Karl (who also fought in the war).
* CoolMask: As part of The Order, it was necessary for him to wear one. However, Deadhead's is unique in that rather than being a WhiteMaskOfDoom, it's instead a SkullForAHead.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Briefly shows up as a JumpScare in HAPPYBIRTHDAY, long before Noah or the viewers have any idea who he is.
* EvilOldFolks: According to the East Coast Manifest, Henka has been a part of The Order since the 1980's, where he was 70 years old at the time. Meaning that when he was in contact with Mary and Milo Asher, he was between his ''eighties and nineties''.
* InTheHood: Is always seen with a hood on.
* GratuitousGerman: Has only said two words so far (see below). Since he was active in Germany following Sebastian, we'll probably get a lot of this from him when/if he starts talking more.
** Averted while speaking with Milo, where he speaks in perfect, but accented English.
* JumpScare: Appears in the HAPPYBIRTHDAY video and leaps at the camera, with the words "Auf Wiedersehen" ("goodbye" in German) in his mouth.
* LockedInTheDungeon: DEATHTRAPEXODUS shows him inside of some kind of jail cell. How and why he was sent there is unknown.
* MeaningfulName: Deadhead is a reference to the German term "Totenkopf" which means "death's head". The Totenkopf is symbolised by a skull and was used by the Nazis.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: While most of the Collective's names are foreboding, '''Deadhead''' sticks out the most, given that it's based off the name of a Nazi symbol.
* NightmareFace: Scary enough with the mask. Presumably he is hiding something creepier beneath it.
** If Milo's dream in "tapes" is accurate, the "something creepier" in question is a missing jaw.
* PosthumousCharacter: Many of Henka's deeds were done long before Noah would create his [=YouTube=] channel, yet that doesn't make him any less important to the series. Having held a high rank in the Order, and worked with Mary to control Milo during his life is just the tip of the iceberg.
* SkullForAHead: Actually a CoolMask owned by Deadhead's host.
* WhatAreYouInFor: Implied to be the "conman" that started the tragedy of the Maxwell-Asher family that Noah speaks of.
* WickedCultured: He writes in cursive font, and seemingly dedicated his life to the southern chapter of The Order.

!!Cursor
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cursor.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Who is Mr. Scars?]]
Cursor is a female Collective member with long hair and X-shaped bandages over her eyes. Her title is "The Selfish." Noah has noted that she bears a resemblance to both his own mother and Mary Asher. As of Obituary, it is confirmed that she is indeed Mary.
----
* BlindfoldedVision: Wears x-shaped bandages over her eyes. Notably, large purple crosses have appeared in both WebVideo/TribeTwelve and WebVideo/EverymanHYBRID.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Her title as "The Selfish" wasn't given to her for no reason. For more information see her host's character page.
* MeaningfulName: Cursor is Latin for "runner", or "messenger". Her host, Mary Asher was on the run from Slender Man for a good portion of her life.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: The only female member of the Collective, and one of the very first females working under the big man in any of the Slender Man stories.
* TrappedInASinkingCar: Subverted. While the photos in Obituary show the police found her host's corpse in a submerged car, it's later discovered that she was killed [[BoomHeadshot in a very different manner]], long before she was put in the car.

!!Mr. Scars
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mr_scars.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:It still hurts...]]
Mr. Scars is seen with his hands covering a heavily scarred face. He is called "the one who kills Mary" and "The Burdened", and Mary Asher believed that Noah knew his identity. Noah has mentioned on Twitter that he has had a recurring nightmare about Mr. Scars, finding him vaguely familiar. "Obituary" confirmed that he's Milo Asher.
----
* AffablyEvil: Seems to hate his own scars, judging by his behavior in a dream Noah had about him.
** Implied even more in DEUS EX MACHINA when Firebrand reveals Mr. Scars will deliver Milo's diary in a briefcase to Noah. In Obituary, Mr. Scars delivers the briefcase...with the final frame of the video showing a smiling Milo wishing Noah "Good Luck".
* TheAtoner: Presumably the reason why he's working with Firebrand after killing Mary Asher, and why he delivers his BriefcaseFullOfMoney to Noah.
* BackFromTheDead: He's Milo revived as a member of the Collective.
* BriefcaseFullOfMoney: Firebrand gives him this along with the [[ForegoneConclusion gun he will use to shoot Mary Asher]] in Milo's Tape. Afterwards, he delivers that same briefcase minus the gun to Noah in Obituary along with several of his own belongings, including said tape, [[LivingMacGuffin his journal]], a handwritten note, a [[GridPuzzle Sudoku Rubix cube]], and some old loafers.
* CameBackWrong: When he's revived by Slender Man, he's shown to retain every one of his wounds that he inflicted on himself to end his life; slashed wrists, slit throat, and all.
* CallingTheOldWomanOut: Once Mary meets him at the old Asher house, Mr. Scars wastes no time pointing out her abuse and neglect of him, as well as killing Robert Asher.
* DemonicPossession: Implied. After being attacked by Slender Man, Mr. Scars contacts Mary Asher to lure her to his old house, where he promptly murders her after [[CallingTheOldWomanOut calling her out for all the terrible things she's done over the years]]. However, after realizing what he's done, he immediately breaks down, hinting that it might not have been his doing.
* TheDisembodied: After the events of Milo's Tape and Obituary, Mr. Scars possesses his own journal and speaks to Noah during the events of the Fortunes Arc.
* DisposingOfABody: After killing Mary Asher, Mr. Scars tapes two X's onto her eyes, and then dumps her lifeless body into a submerged car in the middle of a lake.
* ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: A man named Mr. Scars who's literally covered with scars and wounds from his death. Who'da thunk it?
* HealingFactor: Subverted in the most horrific fashion: he retains all of the wounds from his suicide, including cuts on both wrists and a ''slit throat''.
%%* GoodScarsEvilScars
* TheGrotesque: Retains the self-inflicted scars and slit throat he died with, making him this.
* IDidntMeanToKillHim: After Mr. Scars shoots Mary Asher in the head, he breaks down sobbing while telling her corpse that the Collective made him do it.
* {{Matricide}}: Described as "theonewhokillsmary". Who just so happens to be his mother. You do the math.
* MyFutureSelfAndMe: Downplayed. Rather than assist directly like Firebrand and Persolus do, Mr. Scars aides his past self by showing him places and things to do in various dreams Milo has.
* NightmareFace: Presumably hides one behind his hands.
** "Milo's Tape", however, suggests that he might be hiding his face due to the sorrow and shame of having murdered his own mother.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Gives a ''well-damn-deserved'' one to Mary Asher, criticizing her terrible treatment of him back when he was Milo Asher, her killing of Robert Asher, [[NothingIsScarier what she did to Noah]], and why she even conceived him in the first place.
* SpiritAdvisor: Kind of. He helps his past self find important things by showing him what he has to do in his dreams. Aside from that though, he interacts with him very little.
* TorturedMonster: There's a good reason why he's known as "The Burdened".[[note]] Milo's mother only gave birth to him ''in the first place'' so she could offer him as a sacrifice to the Administrator. He suffered a lifetime of severe psychological problems due to being constantly followed by the Slender Man and his ilk. Then, after an utterly horrific death and resurrection (both of which were orchestrated by forces outside his control), he was [[BrainwashedAndCrazy forced]] to murder his mother in cold blood.[[/note]]
* UndeadBarefooter: Implied by Firebrand in this [[https://twitter.com/TribeTwelve/status/372914786838667264 tweet]]. Apparently Mr. Scars had to walk from some desert in the middle of nowhere, all the way to Noah's house in Florida. Surprisingly, it only takes him 3 days.
* UnwantedRevival: Courtesy of Slender Man.
* WoundThatWillNotHeal: As his name suggests, Mr. Scars has long self-inflicted scars, and an open slit throat on his person even after being resurrected. Given from what we've seen in pictures, they aren't going away anytime soon.

!!Swain
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/swain_6.jpg]]

Swain wears an army uniform and smiling theatre mask. Is also called "The Lover." He's implied to be Sebastian Kraus, the man who authored the journal that Karl Maxwell now has in his possession.
----
%%* ArmchairMilitary
* ANaziByAnyOtherName: HABIT confirms he was a Nazi soldier that he worked with sometime before being inducted into the Collective's ranks.
* BlingOfWar: His low-rank Nazi uniform is reminiscent of old theater garb from around the WWII era.
* TheCasanova: If his reputation as "The Lover" is any indication.
* CoolMask: Wears a solid white "happy" theater mask, as well as a frowning theater mask underneath it. In Milo's entry "safe", it's revealed that Karl had this in his possession for some reason.
* ConspicuousTrenchcoat: Wears one as part of his visage.
* GlasgowGrin: His theatre mask has this.
* GratuitousGerman: Practically a given for him due to being a Nazi soldier.
* MalevolentMaskedMan: Is always seen wearing a solid white theater mask.
* MeaningfulName: The word "Swain" means "young lover" or "suitor".
* TheQuietOne: Interestingly, he's one of the few Collective members who hasn't been documented saying a word either on the main channel, or in Milo's Journal.
* StepfordSmiler: Implied. During the Collective video ''DEATHTRAPEXODUS'', Swain is shown taking off his smiling theatre mask to reveal another, sad theatre mask underneath.
%%* WhiteMaskOfDoom
* WickedCultured: Fancy uniform and a theatre mask? He couldn't be anything else.

!!Persolus
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/persolus.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:''Nicht.'']]
Persolus has the guise of an old man, and is called "the hermit." Persolus is Latin for "quite alone." He's confirmed by the Observer and Milo's Journal to be Karl Maxwell, Noah's grandfather.
----
* TheDeterminator: See Mysterious Protector down below.
* GetOut: Wards Milo away from Karl's belongings by dropping a frying pan on the floor, and later holding him in place until his previous self is able to stop him.
* GuardianEntity: He protects Sebastian's journal from any outside forces that may try to take it for themselves.
* GrumpyOldMan: As his host was before he joined the Collective's ranks, Persolus is ''not'' a pleasant person.
* TheHermit: Just like his past self was. It's even the title given to him by the Observer.
* InSeriesNickname: Milo refers to him as "Dark Grandpa" and "Shadow Karl" in his journal.
* IWorkAlone: He and Karl are the only ones who keep watch over Sebastian's journal.
* LonersAreFreaks: Just look at who his host is!
* MeaningfulName: As seen above, Persolus's name is Latin for "quite alone".
* MyFutureSelfAndMe: Similar to Firebrand, Persolus and Karl do not share the same body, and are implied to be from different time periods. Unlike Noah however, Karl doesn't seem to be aware that his Collective counterpart exists.
* MysteriousProtector: He keeps watch over Sebastian's journal, and stops anyone who attempts to leave Karl's house with it.
* OnlySaneMan: WordOfGod says that out of all of the Collective members, Persolus has retained the most sanity among them all. Considering that "sane" is defined as a ProperlyParanoid ShellShockedVeteran who's willing to protect his ammunition box by '''''chasing away his 7-year old grandson with a shotgun''''', this does not bode well for the mental state for the rest of the Collective.
** In fact, according to WordOfGod if Persolus's sanity were it to be measured on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being complete madness and 1 full sanity, Persolus would be a 4.
* TheDogWasTheMastermind: Is revealed to be possessing Karl Maxwell, Noah's senile old grandfather.

[[folder:Other Entities]]
!!The Order
The Order is a Slender Man worshipping ReligionOfEvil who serve as villains towards Chris and Alex of WebVideo/DarkHarvest. However, it's gradually revealed that not only was this cult involved with the Asher family, they may have been partially responsible for Milo's suicide.
----
* CandlelitRitual: Part of their creepy schtick it seems. We see it in action when Noah attempts to flee from them in The Order.
* IHaveManyNames: They've existed in various stages of Milo Asher's life under the guises of a book club, an Alcohol Anonymous organization, and a PTA business. This is likely to keep people from getting suspicious of members sneaking out to meetings every night.
* MalevolentMaskedMen: Members of the cult wear a solid WhiteMaskOfDoom in order to conceal their identities from the public. However, it's implied that higher-ranked members wear different masks, as demonstrated with [[SkullForAHead Henka Visæ]].
* RoguesGalleryTransplant: Although their main motivations seem limited to Chris and Alex today (and only encountered Noah briefly in 2012), Milo's journal shows that the group has been involved with his family for years, as they were responsible for indoctrinating Mary Asher and Edward O'Connor's father into their ranks in the 90s. The person who recruited the former, Henka Visæ, also ended up becoming the Collective member Deadhead.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: More than half of the cultists take off alongside Noah into the trees after Slender Man appears before them, and sends one of their members to the "fourth world".

!!Scriniarii
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/scriniarii_7.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:The loop must be maintained.]]
Scriniarii is an unidentified man who is a "friend" of Firebrand's. He attempted to provide information on things on the [=TribeTwelve=] Reddit, but assumed to be a gamejacker and blocked. After fans learned about his relationship with Firebrand, Scriniarii appears occasionally on the [=TribeTwelve=] discord to provide answers for people.
----
* BadassDriver: Willingly drives Milo back home after the latter is taken to Karl's house in "safe". He doesn't even ask for a tip, claiming that Milo had "already paid him".
* BigDamnHeroes: Gives an eight-year old Milo a drive home to his Aunt Jo's house after the latter discovers Karl's safe.
* TheCracker: Serves as this for the Discord and Reddit parts of the TT community. One of his most notable acts was giving early access to Milo's journal, [[RetCon even if it wasn't the official version of it]].
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Not much is known about Scriniarii, but we do know that he's been ForcedToWatch his family die at the hands of Slender Man and his cohorts multiple times due to resetting the loop.
* DeadpanSnarker: Oh, absolutely so towards the TT fandom. Likely justified, due to how the fandom initially saw him as a mere gamejacker before Firebrand proved otherwise.
* HeroicFatigue: Due to having been forced to reset the loop multiple times because of the TT fandom's supposed incompetence, Scriniarii is very tired, and is just about done with what he's doing to help.
* ItsPersonalWithTheDragon: Scriniarii reveals on the Discord that he holds a lot of hatred towards Henka Visæ/ Deadhead, due to him bringing a lot of pain to both himself and his family. [[NothingIsScarier Although it has yet to be revealed what it was Henka did]], it can't have been a good thing considering what [[ANaziByAnyOtherName Henka]] was.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Scriniarii has been helping Noah and his family out ever since Milo's childhood, where he poses as a taxi driver and takes him back to his Aunt Jo's house after Milo runs away from his grandfather's house. It's also important to note that Scriniarii looks exactly the same in Milo's drawings as he does currently.
* ScaryShinyGlasses: While the "scary" part, isn't exactly applicable, one of Scri's defining traits are his large glasses, which rival the Observer's in terms of RuleOfCool.
* SurroundedByIdiots: Seems to have this attitude towards the [=TribeTwelve=] Discord and Reddit fandoms. In particular, Sciniarii has a disdain for those who ask him terrible questions, or attempt to use Severance poorly.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: If his messages on Discord are to be believed, he had no interest in doing what Firebrand asked him to do, and clearly looks down upon the TT fandom.

!!Future Noah Maxwell (Sisyphus)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/future_noah.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Oh, I remember this... this is when it happened!]]
Hailing from an alternate timeline/future, Future Noah (known as Prebrand by fans) is Noah Maxwell from a future where he was enslaved by the Collective, and forced to live within their realm for an undetermined amount of time. Noah first encounters him in Sisyphus, where he makes it clear how much SanitySlippage he's gone through over the years.
----
* AbsurdlySharpBlade: Among the things he obtained from Karl, one of them happens to a knife that was used by the Nazis. It certainly hasn't dulled over the years, as his past self finds out.
* AlternateSelf: He comes from a timeline where Noah got trapped in the Collective's realm, and never made it out.
* AxeCrazy: Compared to the current Noah, Future Noah has shown to be much more unhinged than one would like to believe, going as for as to slice Noah's hand with a Nazi blade just for shits and giggles.
* BarbarianLonghair: Sisyphus!Noah's hair is quite long and unkempt, and his crazed words/actions reveal just how detrimental staying in the Collective's realm for too long is to one's health.
* BagOfHolding: Has a little satchel that he carries around with him while he hunts for food. [[BreadEggsMilkSquick What it holds varies from bottles of water and raisins to dead birds and Sebastian's journal]].
* BeardOfSorrow: More like beard of ''madness''.
* {{BFS}}: Has a large Nazi blade that he keeps in his BagOfHolding. We later get to see it in action when he attacks Noah with it.
* BigBlackout: He's the unfortunate victim of this, due to the Collective cutting off his electricity and water in his timeline.
* BizarreTasteInFood: While showing off his miscellaneous objects, Prebrand takes out a bag marked "BIRD" on it with...''something''... in it, and eats it in right in front of a disgusted Noah. Somewhat justified however, since there aren't exactly any restaurants in the Collective's realm.
* CloseEnoughTimeline: Implied. Future Noah admits to the current Noah that he doesn't exactly know what he's going to say or do next, and that he's trying to copy what he remembers ''his'' future self did when he was in Noah's place.
* ContemporaryCaveman: It's revealed during the 2017 Veterans Day livestream that the Collective have put Sisyphus!Noah under "house arrest", which confines him to both the boardwalk and his house. Because the Collective have also cut off his water and electricity, Sisyphus!Noah actually has to catch and eat his food out at the boardwalk.
* DrivenToSuicide: Defied. Sisyphus!Noah claims in the Veterans Day livestream that failed versions of himself failed to maintain the loop due to them commiting suicide. As such, he must keep himself alive in order to make sure this version of the loop is successful, [[IronWoobie no matter how much he may want to]].
* EvilLaugh: He mocks Noah's failed attempts to roll a 5 or 8 menacingly by doing this.
* EmptyFridgeEmptyLife: During his live stream, Sisyphus!Noah offhandedly mentions that all of the food in his fridge has been spoiled, due to the Collective cutting off his electricity.
* FlashStep: Has the ability to pull this off, thanks to his mastery of Severance.
* FutureMeScaresMe: Even moreso than ''Firebrand''.
* HopeSpot: See TheReasonYouSuckSpeech below.
* ICannotSelfTerminate: Due to being a part of the loop, Future Noah is unable to kill himself lest he wants the Collective to win. He implies that previous versions of himself averted this trope, which caused the loop to fail.
* ImportantHaircut: Inverted. Being out in the Collective's realm has prevented Noah from keeping his hair short, causing it to grow out over his shoulders.
* ItAmusedMe: Most of his crazy antics towards the present Noah are done purely because of this trope.
* LaughingMad: His mocking laughter that echoes throughout the Collective's realm rivals that of the Observer's laughter.
* LightIsNotGood: Don't let that familiar face and light clothing fool you, this version of Noah is a PsychoKnifeNut who is more than willing to [[ItAmusedMe slice your hand open for a cheap laugh]], and later laugh in your face as you try (and fail) to roll a [[{{Film/Jumanji}} five or an eight]] to escape the hell he's been living in for so long.
* MadnessMakeover: The years spent in the Collective's realm have clearly taken a toll on this Noah, whose hair and beard are overgrown, with white clothes that are very disgruntled and dirty. Justified, as the Collective has apparently cut off his electricity, and he's unable to go anywhere outside of the Boardwalk and his home.
* MonsterRoommate: Future Noah apparently has a "naggy roommate" that likes to annoy him by calling him frequently while he's out hunting. So far, we know nothing about who the roommate is, other than that he's been in a similar situation to Noah's.
* NonAnswer: Future Noah never actually explains anything that's happening to the current Noah while talking with him, preferring to be extremely vague and confusing. This trope is expanded upon in the Veterans Day Stream, where he refuses to give a straight answer to many important questions out of fear of "breaking the loop".
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: Somehow managed to obtain Sebastian's journal from Karl and read it's contents.
* PsychopathicManchild: Seems to have little care whatsoever for his past self, and seems to be more interested in having some cheap laughs than actually teaching Noah anything.
* SealedEvilInACan: Future Noah claims he's under "house arrest" meaning that he can't leave the boardwalk, or the Collective's realm.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: After toying with him for a few solid minutes, Future Noah berates his past self for believing that his life is [[BreakingTheFourthWall one big joke for people on the internet to watch]]. He takes it a step further and '''''attacks him with a Nazi blade''''' for no apparent reason other than for a quick laugh.
* UselessUsefulSpell: Sisyphus!Noah is able to use Severance to teleport places. Sounds cool, right? Well, it would be, if he was able to use it to go anywhere outside of the Boardwalk and his own house.

!!Future Noah Maxwell (Rendezvous)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2018_06_19_at_104500_pm.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Hey there, buddy. Have a seat, we have to talk.]]
Yet ''another'' Noah from an alternate future, this version of Noah sits down to converse with our current Noah to explain to him some things about the "game" Noah's playing.
----
* AlternateSelf: This version of Noah managed to successfully obtain Sebastian's journal from Karl Maxwell without getting trapped in the Collective's realm and suffering from SanitySlippage.
* DarkIsNotEvil: When Noah encounters him, he's wearing solid black clothing. [[SanitySlippage Unlike]] the previous [[LightIsNotGood Noah]], he actually makes an effort to help Noah understand what's going on.
* DeadpanSnarker: Being a version of Noah, did you expect anything else?
* {{Foil}}: Amusingly enough, to himself. This version of Noah, while a bit of a jerkass, is a clearly-thinking, smart guy who wants to help his past self defeat Slender Man in any way he can, and is doing his best to play by the rules while still giving Noah enough info to help him out. Sisyphus!Noah on the other hand, has completely lost his mind, and couldn't care less about what his past self goes through.
* ForegoneConclusion: Rendezvous!Noah tells Noah that becoming [[PhysicalGod Firebrand]] is an inevitability if they want to defeat Slender Man.
** There's also the fact that Rendezvous!Noah is not as far in the future as Sisyphus!Noah is (who, coincidentally, is also the closest version of Noah to being Firebrand), which means that he likely ends up exactly like him later on.
* FutureMeScaresMe: Like the current Noah, Rendezvous!Noah has encountered Sisyphus!Noah a few times over the course of his Boardwalk visits, even receiving the same scar Noah got. Rendezvous!Noah claims that the visits were not pleasant.
* IHatePastMe: As to be expected from Noah's future selves, he does not particularly like himself from the past.
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: Somehow managed to obtain Sebastian's journal from Karl and read it's contents.
* PsychologistTeacher: His main objective in Rendezvous is to teach his past self about the realm he's in, what he has to do to escape it, and reveal why the journal is so important in the Collective's eyes.
* ShowDontTell: Invoked. Rendezvous!Noah reveals the reason why he, Firebrand, and Sisyphus!Noah can't flat-out tell Noah why Sebastian's journal is so important is because it 1.) breaks the rules of the loop, which ''no one'' wants, and 2.) would also be telling the Collective what it is as well, [[MakeWrongWhatOnceWentRight allowing them to jump back in time and fix things]]. Instead, he opens it up and shows Noah (but not the viewers) what it is that makes the tome so powerful.
* SinkOrSwimMentor: Justified, as he only has a limited amount of time to tell Noah what to do and how to do it before Firebrand's protection wears off.

!!Milo's Journal
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/milojournal.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Open me.]]
The journal of Milo Asher, which became sentient after Milo uses Severance on it in 2006. During the Fortunes arc, it comes to life once again, where it pesters Noah as his sanity degrades. According to Facade, the journal is now possessed by Milo himself, and whose jerkass behavior was a ploy of Firebrand's to motivate Noah to do the right things.
----
* DeadPersonConversation: It's unclear whether Milo's journal is actually Milo himself, or some other entity pretending to be him. In spite of this, Noah and his Rendezvous future self both acknowledge it as Milo during the Fortunes arc.
** As of Facade, it seems the journal really is Milo, whose personality has changed due to being in a different form.
* DeadpanSnarker: It engages in more than enough snark at Noah's expense during the Fortunes arc.
* {{Hypocrite}}: In Fortunes, the journal shows irritation and contempt towards Noah for not opening itself and reading what it contains. Once Noah actually makes an attempt to do this in Crawlspace, it begs Noah not to do so, claiming that "it's going to hurt". However, it's implied that it only does this when someone tries to break it open, as Mary Asher was unable to open it during "flu" as well.
* {{Jerkass}}: Invoked. The journal reveals in Facade that his jackass behavior towards Noah was due to both being in a different form, but also because it's part of Firebrand's plan.
* JerkassHasAPoint: After the Observer jumpscares the viewers by suggesting that Noah should go to the boardwalk to play, the journal responds by suggesting that Noah listen to him.
* KilledOffForReal: Implied. Although we have yet to see footage of it, Noah confirms on Ask.fm and his Blogspot that the journal ceased whispering after he finally was able to open it.
* LivingMacGuffin: Was this until Noah finally opened it, hoping to tear out the arrow (non-Observer) symbols of Severance before he familiarized himself with the journal's history specificially.
* MysteriousProtector: After Milo uses Severance on it before he's drugged by his mother, the journal whispers something to prevent Mary Asher from flat-out getting rid of or destroying it.
** This is also subtly downplayed in Pitfall. While the Journal convinces Noah to come down and get it by , it quickly warns him that the Observer is about to push him off the tower
* NoteToSelf: Exaggerated. The journal is practically a massive ''story'' to self that Milo uses to remember his life, and for Noah to understand the hell his cousin went through before his suicide.
* SoulJar: As revealed in Facade, the journal is possessed by the essence of Milo / Mr. Scars.
* SuddenlyVoiced: Was initially just a regular old journal that Noah received from Mr. Scars, albeit unopenable. Flash-forward to Fortunes and Milo's Journal is now somehow has the ability to speak, which it utilizes to whisper insults at a hungover Noah. One of Milo's journal entries reveals that the journal gained the ability to speak after Milo used Severance on it.
* SecretKeeper: A rare nonliving example. Once Milo uses Severance on his journal, its sentience prevents Mary or Noah from forcing it open to learn about Milo's life without the key.
* ThirdPersonPerson: At one point during the video Fortunes, the journal harshly whispers "Milo ''hates'' you, as Noah tearfully apologizes to Milo for failing him. Considering what we learn about the journal in Facade, the journal is technically calling itself by it's own name.
* TricksterMentor: And how. What Milo's journal says varies from some legitimate advice and comforting words, to simple berating and insulting of Noah's lack of progress. Although if what it says in Facade is true, this was very much intentional in order to motivate Noah to fight against the Collective.
