Cassie is the series main protagonist and heroine. She was born to John Blackwell and Amelia Blake on March 28th, 1995 in Chance Harbour, Washington. She is a newly discovered witch who, since the death of her mother, Amelia, has resided in the town of Chance Harbor, Washington. While Cassie initially dislikes the idea of being a witch, she later begins to accept her destiny and her family's heritage of magic.
----

* ActionGirl: Cassie is a powerful witch who possesses supernatural powers. Cassie, along with the other girls in the Circle (Diana, Melissa and Faye) are all involved in the action on the show; they often use their witch powers to fight evil or opponents. Although before she finds out her abilities and about he twitch heritage, she is seen as more of a DamselInDistress. Cassie also has BlackMagic from her father's side, also known as Balcoin blood. This makes Cassie significantly more powerful and dangerous and she can become very out of control when she uses her dark magic. Cassie is not to be messed with as although she is the smallest of the Circle, she is also the strongest and the most powerful, despite not having as much experience as a witch as the rest of her fellow Circle members.
* ActionGirlfriend: To Adam. Although Adam is a warlock who can conduct magic himself, Cassie often throws herself into battle more frequently and gets involved in the action much more than Adam. She is also immensely powerful because she possesses Dark Magic which empowers her to engage in combat or battle or fight the enemy much more effectively. Also in comparison, Adam is also more cautious and logical when it comes to approaching things, but Cassie is much more impulsive and hotheaded in how she chooses to approach things.
* ActionHeroine: Cassie is perfectly capable of defending herself and others when the time comes for it. She is a powerful witch who possesses many abilities and powers that allow her to combat or fight the enemy when it is necessary for her to do so. She has Black Magic which makes her tougher and a force to be reckoned with. Unlike her other fellow Circle members, Cassie is the one who is more likely to resort to physical violence of any kind and even kill in order to solve problems. Because of Cassie's tendency to resort to the use of violence than other more diplomatic ways, the other members of the Circle often have to stop her, primarily Adam and Diana, from going over the edge and possibly harming people.
* AdaptationDyeJob: In the novel series, Cassie is a brunette, but on the show, she is a blonde. The reason for having Cassie's hair colour being changed for the television adaptation are not known but it could be assumed that the producers didn't seem to put much care or consideration into what Cassie's hair colour should have been. Despite the differences in hair colour, Cassie in both the novel and television adaptations both have blue eyes.
* AfraidOfNeedles: Cassie admitted to Adam during a spell that required her blood that she was deathly petrified of needles. When she first saw the needle, Cassie started to freak out. Her fear of needles was so bad that during the spell, Cassie had asked Adam to be the one to poke her with the needle so that they could get her blood. Cassie even had to look away as Adam was poking her finger. It is unknown how or why Cassie has a fear of needles and it could be assumed that she has had this phobia since childhood.
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: With Adam many times throughout the season. Cassie and Adam have a very chaotic relationship due to the fact that there are always numerous obstacles and problems trying to come between them and keep the two from being together. Adam and Cassie often confess their love for each other whenever they are facing possible death or any kind of possible danger. There is much angst surrounding their relationship to begin with as their love was originally forbidden as Adam was dating Diana. Cassie and Adam would often confess their deep connection and their feelings for each other with much sadness and angst due to the circumstances surrounding their relationship and their situation.
* AntagonisticOffspring: Towards John. Cassie didn't know that John was her real or biological father in the beginning. When she discovered who John was, she hated him and was very antagonistic towards him. Cassie had even told John that she didn't want him in her life and that she would be just fine without him as she had been fine for the past sixteen years that he wasn't a part of her life. However, later on, she starts to accept him as her father and even starts to trust him. Unfortunately, this proved to bad judgement on Cassie's part. John had always had bad intentions from the very start but the concept of family blinded Cassie to John's true intentions and his real personality.
* AntiHero: Cassie may be the main heroine of the show but she possesses more qualities of that of an anti-heroine than an [[IdealHero Ideal Heroine]]. Although she has good intentions, she is highly capable of crossing the morally grey line from time to time. While Cassie wants to save and protect people from danger, Cassie has shown that she seems to have a preference of going about achieving her goals and mission in sometimes underhanded ways. Cassie also possesses Black Magic, which also makes her very dangerous and can make her become a rather dark person who often forgets that she is crossing a moral line from time to time. Even other members of her Circle, like Diana and Adam for example, have to keep Cassie in check whenever she gets out of hand or loses control of her magic. Cassie originally starts off as an [[IdealHero Ideal Heroine]] at the very beginning of the series but she becomes a Type II after she discovers that she is a witch. Cassie becomes more of a [[PragmaticHero Type III]] as the series progresses later on after she discovers her heritage of Dark Magic. When she lets her dark magic overtake her, she becomes a [[UnscrupulousHero Type IV]] or [[NominalHero Type V]]. As the series progresses, although Cassie has good intentions and uses her powers to save people, she also becomes much of a darker individual especially when she discovers her Dark Magic ancestry.
* AnchoredShip: With Adam. Their relationship would constantly go and than pause and then go and then pause again. One could argue that Adam and Cassie's relationship was very tumultuous due to various outside obstacles standing in the way of them officially being together. Although destiny wants the two of them to be together, as their families have always been "written in the stars", it seems that fate wants them to be apart. Adam and Cassie have never had a long period of actual happiness together and when they do manage to find some kind of contentment and happiness with each other, it ends up being taken away from them immediately. Not only this, but it seems that they often have to put their relationship on the back burner for the sake of the Circle and for the sake of some people's feelings, such as Diana's for example.

* BadassAdorable: Cassie may be badass, but she is also has her adorable moments while kicking ass and putting you in your place. Just because Cassie appears to be the loveable young and shy teenage girl who would gladly befriend you, does not mean that Cassie would not kick ass and make sure that you pay if you so much as hurt or cross her or the people she cares about. Cassie also has dark magic, which also makes Cassie very intimidating if she is provoked in any way.
* BadassBoast: Cassie has her moments when you anger her, cross her or piss her off in any way, you better watch out. Cassie has shown that she is not above threatening others in order to get what she wants and that if you do not give her what she wants, she is capable of resorting to either a dangerous use of her own magic or physical violence. Cassie has displayed that she has a temper and that she also possesses Black Magic, which has shown that she can be rather dangerous.
%% Putting a trope into a secondary bullet of another trope is against the Examples Indentation rules. Leave BadassBoast at first level, please.
* BadassFamily: Cassie comes from a badass family from both her mother's side and her father's side. Her mother, Amelia Blake, was once a powerful witch back in the day but she stopped practicing because magic was abolished and was no longer allowed to be practiced due to the tragedy that had happened. Her maternal grandmother, Jane Blake, was also a powerful witch before her mother. Jane had become sort of a mentor or a teacher for Cassie and she helped Cassie to learn and understand her identity as a witch and help her to control her abilities. On her father's side, there is even more badassness there. Her father is John Blackwell, a very dark, dangerous and powerful warlock who has immense power;. John is a descendant of Balcoin blood, which is a bloodline of BlackMagic. Because John is descended from dark magic, this makes him excessively more powerful and more dangerous than other warlocks like him. Cassie had inhabited WhiteMagic from her mother and BlackMagic from her father, making her the most powerful witch within the Circle. Her paternal half sister, Diana, is also very badass as well, as she also possesses the curse of dark magic, as Diana and Cassie share the same father in John.
%% Putting a trope into a secondary bullet of another trope is against the Examples Indentation rules. Leave BadassInDistress at first level, please.
* BadassInDistress: Cassie has found herself in some troubling situations where she has required help from her fellow Circle members. Although Cassie is normally capable of taking care of herself and even those that she cares about when she has to, she has shown that she falls vulnerable more than anyone else in the Circle. Because of this, Cassie can sometimes come off as a bit of a DamselInDistress at times.
* BadPowersGoodPeople: Cassie possesses Dark Magic ancestry. Her dark magic abilities are highly powerful and Cassie would sometimes let her dark magic overtake her. Cassie admitted to Diana that she liked using her dark magic and she got a a thrill and excitement out of it. Later on in the series, Cassie was seen to be starting to overuse her dark magic; Diana would often warn her to stop overusing her dark magic and letting it overtake her. It showed that Cassie was strongly capable of becoming very dangerous if she did not stop overusing her dark magic and she let it overtake her. Sometimes her dark magic would consume Cassie so much that her logic and her morals would slip right out the window and she would therefore, become unpredictable and unrecognizable. Diana also possesses dark magic just like Cassie, however, Diana is able to keep it under control and instead, keep her morals and her logic in tact. This is because unlike Cassie, Diana is seen to be more levelheaded, more calm and more practical in how she approaches things in general, while Cassie has been seen to be more impulsive, more unpredictable and more hotheaded.
* BecauseDestinySaysSo: Her relationship with Adam. She and Adam are said to be soul mates who are destined to be together and are "written in the stars". When Cassie first met Adam, she had felt a strong and magnetic pull or connection towards him. Adam had also said that he felt the exact same thing. This is because according to a legend, the Blake's and the Conant's were destined to be together and that it has always been that way. Interestingly enough, although destiny has panned for Adam and Cassie to be together, there have been numerous obstacles and endless problems that try to keep the two from being together or even staying together. It seems that although destiny has planned for them to be together, fate seems to disagree as Adam and Cassie can never seem to find some semblance of happiness and peace with each other due to the circumstances surrounding their relationship. It's made even more complicated by the fact that Adam was the boyfriend of Diana, who happens to be Cassie's friend (and later discovered to be hear paternal half sister). Adam and Cassie could be considered the epitome of StarcrossedLovers, two people who love each other and feel such a strong connection to each other but cannot be together due to the circumstances surrounding their relationship, not to mention the endless obstacles thrown in their way of being together.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Jake. Cassie and Jake have always shared a loved hate relationship, which involved lots of bickering, arguing and teasing. Through all of that, it was obvious there was a mutual attraction on both sides, much to Adam's dislike or disapproval.
* BerserkButton: Messing with Cassie's loved ones, especially her family and Adam, in any capacity is a huge no-no.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Cassie is nice but don't mess with her or get on her bad side. Especially after she has embraced Dark Magic.
* BettyAndVeronica: Cassie is the Veronica to Diana's Betty for Adam's Archie. Later on, she is the Archie to Adam's Betty and Jake's Veronica.
* BigDamnHeroes: Cassie is pretty much the one who always saves the day, since she is the heroine of the story.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Diana and Adam. They are all witches who share a lot of things in common in terms of family life, personality and outlooks.
* BlackMagicianGirl: Cassie possesses Dark Magic due to her Balcoin bloodline and ancestry. Although Cassie primarily practices WhiteMagic and uses her powers for good, sometimes she will dabble in using her dark magic. And when she does, don't mess with her because she is scary and not to be underestimated.
* BlessedWithSuck: Cassie sees her magical abilities, her gift of magic as more of a curse than a gift at the beginning of the series.
* BreakTheCutie: Cassie has been through much tragedy and pain in her young life. She had lost her mother in a tragic fire, her father died shortly after she was born, she discovers that she is a witch, she discovers that her real father is John Blackwell, who is said to be a man with bad intentions, she discovers that she has Dark Magic ancestry, she had been manipulated into making Adam forget his love for her and then she lost her grandmother Jane, her only blood family aside from her half-sister (Diana) and their father (John). A lot of trials and tribulations surrounding her destiny as a witch seem to cause Cassie un-safety, as well as everyone around her.
* BrokenBird: Cassie loses her mother in a tragic fire at the start of the series. It seems as the series progresses, she goes through more pain and tragedy.
* CharacterDevelopment: Goes from being a reluctant and naive ordinary teenage girl who discovers she's a witch to a very powerful witch who is highly accepting of her magical abilities.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Cassie has her jealous moments in regards to Adam...and his relationship with Diana.
* CorruptTheCutie: Dark magic darkens Cassie's personality somewhat.
* CuteBruiser: Cassie is petite and small but she is also very strong and powerful.
* CuteWitch: Cassie is a benevolent witch who practices WhiteMagic. However, she does possess BlackMagic and when she lets this dark magic overtake her, she becomes not so cute.
* TheCutie: Cassie is very loveable and endearing...when she is not delving into her Dark Magic.
* DamselOutOfDistress: Cassie occasionally finds herself in trouble from time to time, but she has proven that she is perfectly capable of defending herself against other dangers. She has also shown to be effective in the use of combat when she has to resort to doing so. Cassie has shown that she doesn't need either Adam or Jake to save her or help her defend herself as she has shown that she is capable of doing so very effectively without their help. Hell, Cassie has shown that when it comes to the use of magic, she is more powerful that both Adam and Jake and the rest of the Circle overall.
* DeadpanSnarker: Cassie has a quick wit and a dry sense of humour. Although not as sassy and sarcastic as Faye, she can certainly hold her own during a SnarkToSnarkCombat with anyone, namely Faye.
* DeusAngstMachina: Cassie is constantly going through a rough ordeal and always has problems, issues, and obstacles thrown her way that prevent her from being happy or finding any kind of sanity and peace.
* DisappearedDad: Cassie's father had died shortly after Cassie was born. However, it turns out that Cassie's actual father, John Blackwell, was still alive, however, Cassie had no knowledge of him whatsoever. But, [[he is killed at the end of the series when Cassie and Diana use their combined magic in order to reverse the spell put onto the skull, which resulted in John's death]].
* DistressedDamsel: Cassie is perfectly capable of taking care of herself but there are times when she does need help from others and there are plenty of moments where Cassie finds herself in peril or in deep trouble.
* DoomMagnet: Cassie attracts a lot of tragedy and pain. It's almost never ending.
* EveryoneLovesBlondes: Cassie has blonde hair and she is the primary object of affection for all of the males in the series including Adam, Jake, Nick, and Luke.
* {{Expy}}: Cassie is very similar to Bonnie Bennett from ''Series/TheVampireDiaries''. Like Bonnie, Cassie finds out about her witch heritage. She discovers her witch powers and abilities and develops them throughout the course of the show. Cassie and Bonnie are also originally hesitant and scared to embrace being a witch/practicing witchcraft but with the right support and guidance, they become more comfortable and confident in using their powers.
* FateDrivesUsTogether: Her romance or relationship with Adam is centred on fate and destiny.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Cassie is the Foolish Sibling to Diana's Responsible Sibling. While Cassie is capable of being reckless, impulsive and careless, Diana is more logical, sensible and responsible, especially when it comes to the use of magic.
* FunctionalMagic: Cassie is a with who practices magic.
* GirlNextDoor: Cassie is the humble, pretty, sweet girl that everyone wants to know. She is down to earth and is willing to befriend everyone.
* GirlyBruiser: Cassie is very feminine but she is also very tough and very much a fighter that is not to be underestimated.
* GoodGirlGoneBad: After Cassie discovered and started using her Dark Magic.
* GoodIsNotSoft: Cassie is generally a nice girl but don't get on her bad side.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Cassie is blonde and by personality, she is young, innocent and has a heart of gold.
* HairTriggerTemper: Cassie has always had a short fuse, even before she discovered her dark magic, which made it worse.
* TheHeart: Cassie is the one who brings everyone together and she is the glue that holds the Circle together.
* HeartbrokenBadass: Cassie has been through a lot of pain, loss and grief during her very young life. She has endured much pain and suffering for one so young. Cassie loses her mother, Amelia, in the beginning of the series after she is murdered by Charles in a fire. She then comes to Chance Harbour to start over and live with her grandmother. Unfortunately, things get even more complicated for Cassie. She discovers her true identity as a witch and that her mother had lied to her her whole life and kept the secret that she was a witch. Cassie refuses to accept her identity as a witch and goes into denial about who she is. She becomes depressed and withdraws into herself and she starts to lie to her grandmother about not being aware of who she is. On top of it, Cassie falls in LoveAtFirstSight with Adam, who happens to be the boyfriend of the girl who befriended her when she first came to town (and later, revealed to be her paternal half sister), Diana. Because of this, Cassie struggles to keep her attraction and her connection with Adam a secret as her and Adam's lover for each other is forbidden. When Cassie and Adam do manage to get together, they never end up having any lasting moments of happiness or peace. Constant outside obstacles constantly try to keep the two apart. So, for Adam and Cassie, it seems as though destiny does want them to be together as their love is written in the stars, fate seems to disagree and does everything to keep the two from being happy in any capacity. Cassie also discovers her father, John Blackwell, after 16 years of not knowing him or who he is. She starts off having a very tension filled and antagonistic relationship with him. Eventually, she starts to trust him but this turned out to be bad or poor judgement on Cassie's part, as John had proven that he had evil and bad intentions the whole time. There is also the fact that Cassie's friends are always in constant danger and she has to do everything that she can to protect them and keep them safe as much as possible.
* TheHeroine: Cassie is the heroine of the series whose primary role is to save and protect everyone.
* HeroProtagonist: Cassie serves as both the heroine and the protagonist of ''Series/TheSecretCircle''. Her primary role is to save and protect everyone and she is the protagonist as the story centres around Cassie's development as a witch.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Diana.
* HotBlooded: Cassie is fiery, passionate and feisty. She has also been shown to have a bit of a temper.
* HotWitch: Cassie is an attractive girl who happens to be a witch. This trope fits all of the other girls within the Circle, including Cassie.
* IdealHero: Cassie originally starts off as this trope at the beginning of the series. However, as the series progresses, she goes from being a classic heroine with very good intentions to someone who is more dark in nature due to her dark magic ancestry.
* InnocentBlueEyes: One of Cassie's defining physical attributes, along with her [[HairOfGold blonde hair]].
* IJustWantToBeNormal: Cassie at the beginning of the series. At first, not only is Cassie skeptical of witches and witchcraft, but when she does eventually come to accept her witch heritage, she wants nothing to do with it and tries to escape it as much as possible, feeling that it brings nothing but trouble and pain.
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: Cassie is the Light Feminine to Faye's Dark Feminine.
** Also, Cassie is the Dark Feminine to Diana's Light, especially after they discover that they are half sisters who share the ancestry of dark magic. While Diana refuses to let her dark magic overtake her and has strong principles and morals regarding the use of her magic, Cassie happens to think that using her dark magic is highly effective, especially during desperate times. Diana is also opposed to killing people at all, while Cassie doesn't seem to be completely opposed to killing someone, mostly the bad guy.
* LittleMissBadass: Cassie appears to be small and petite, but she can kick major ass when she has to. She has also shown that she can be very dangerous and scary especially when she is crossed. It also helps that Cassie possesses BlackMagic and that she can prove very deadly when she overuses it. Cassie has shown that she is highly capable violence and of killing other people whenever she loses control of her dark magic. Her dark magic will consume her to the point where she loses her logic and her morals. There are times when Cassie has displayed very disturbing and creepy behaviour while using her dark magic, especially for one who appears and looks so young, fragile and innocent. She has shown that she even poses a possible threat and a possible danger to her friends or her fellow members in the Circle. Cassie could be considered a WaifFu and a CuteBruiser who is not to be underestimated and who is not to be provoked to the point of anger.
* LongLostRelative: To Diana. It is revealed in the middle of the season that Cassie and Diana share the same father (John Blackwell) and are therefore, long lost half-sisters.
* LoveAtFirstSight: With Adam. When Cassie first laid eyes upon Ada, she said that she felt a strong connection and pull towards him. It was a connection that she could not describe. It was so intense for Cassie that she would lose control of her magic whenever she was in Adam's presence. Interestingly enough, Adam also felt a very strong connection with Cassie. This is because it was revealed that the Conants and the Blakes are "written in the stars" and their families have always been destined to be together.
* LoveHurts: In regards to Adam.
* LoveInterest: To both Adam and Jake. Cassie has a special connection with Adam, but she also develops a romantic connection with Jake.
* MagicalGirl: Cassie is a witch who possesses the gift of magic.
* MamaBear: She's intensely protective of those who are dear to her, including her family and friends. Mess with them, you'll get a very angry Cassie.
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: For Adam and later on, for Jake.
* MindOverMatter: Cassie has the ability of controlling and manipulating the movements of objects and persons.
* MissingMom: Her mother, Amelia, dies in a tragic fire at the very beginning of the series.
* MoralityPet: For Jake. Jake became a much kinder and nicer person whenever he was around Cassie.
* MsFanservice
* MurderIsTheBestSolution: Whenever Cassie lets her dark magic overtake her and consume her, Cassie seems to feel that killing a bad guy is the first option. Diana, however, is opposed to killing and therefore, [[MoralityPet often stops Cassie]] from letting her dark magic overtake her sense of morality and sense of logic.
* NewTransferStudent
* NiceGirl: Cassie is generally kind, sweet and friendly towards everyone she meets. However, she can become rather reckless and impulsive when she lets her dark magic consume her.
* NotHerself: Whenever Cassie lets dark magic consume her, she becomes very reckless, impulsive and even cruel and uncaring.
* OfficialCouple: With Adam later on in the series.
* OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent: Cassie is a high school student who is ordinary at first. That is, until she discovers her true heritage as a witch and things suddenly become not so ordinary for her.
* ParentalAbandonment: Like everyone else in the Circle, Cassie has lost a parent or both. Cassie had thought she had lost her father shortly after she was born, however this turns out to be untrue. Cassie's mother Amelia died in a tragic fire (set by Charles Meade) at the very start of the series. Cassie eventually finds out that her real father is alive. Cassie's biological father, John Blackwell, knew about Cassie's existence but was never a part of her life. John is later killed by both Cassie and Diana when they use their combined magic in order to reverse the spell put onto the skull.
* PlayingWithFire: Cassie has the ability of controlling fires and also creating fires. This power becomes heightened when she concentrates or uses her Black Magic.
* PluckyGirl: Despite everything bad that happens around her, Cassie still remains strong and optimistic about things.
* PowerOfTheStorm: Cassie has the ability to control or manipulate the weather. It is assumed that Cassie can create thunderstorms, rain or any other type of weather. In the Pilot, after Faye started a thunderstorm but couldn't stop it, Cassie stepped in and uses her powers and stopped the thunderstorm successfully.
* PsychicNosebleed: Cassie has been seen to have psychic nosebleeds if she overuses her powers or if she overuses her dark magic.
* RedOniBlueOni: Cassie is the Red Oni to Diana's Blue Oni. Cassie is more hot-headed, impulsive and reckless, while Diana is more logical, calm, and composed.
* RefusalOfTheCall: Cassie initially refuses to accept her heritage and her destiny as a witch. She shows this by calling everyone within the Circle a cult, that she doesn't believe in anything such as magic and her refusal to join and bind the Circle.
* ReincarnationRomance: Cassie's relationship with Adam. According to Ethan, Adam and Cassie were destined to be together and were "written in the stars".
* SiblingRivalry: With Cassie. Considering that Cassie is her half sister, there is some competition between the two girls in terms of being the leader of the Circle and also, a competition for Adam and his affections.
* SiblingTeam: With Diana. Cassie often teams up with Diana when it comes to a plan, mission or fighting an opponent or evil together.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: In regards to Adam.
* StarcrossedLovers: Adam and Cassie's relationship. Something or someone always tried to come between them, however, both of them fought as hard as they could to stay together.
* SuperpowerLottery: Because Cassie is a witch, she possesses special abilities and powers.
* SimplifiedSpellcasting: Cassie has the ability of changing and controlling events by magical influence. Spells are the most common method exerted by witches to focus their magic. Spells can range from simple commands to a series of words.
* SummonMagic: Cassie has the ability of calling, commanding, or summoning an element, object, person, or spirit already in existence.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Cassie is the GirlyGirl to Faye's Tomboy. She is generally much more feminine than Faye who appears more badass, tough and edgy.
* TookALevelInBadass: Cassie was already a strong and powerful witch but she becomes even more dangerous and badass as the series progresses. Cassie, at first, becomes more badass when she learns how to control her abilities as a witch. But when she discovers that she is descended from a bloodline that has Dark Magic, also known as the Balcoin bloodline, she starts to gain a significant amount of power and strength. Once Cassie comes to realize that she possesses BlackMagic, she starts to get obsessed or addicted to using it as she seems to get a high off of using it, especially against enemies or the bad guys.
* TookALevelInJerkass: After she discovered she had Dark Magic and became addicted to using it from time to time.
* TraumaCongaLine: Been through so much tragedy and pain throughout such a short period of time, that it is surprising how Cassie has not completely broken down.
* TrueCompanions: With Diana. Her and Diana immediately became fast friends. However, their friendship and relationship became increasingly complicated due to the subtle rivalry between her and Cassie because of [[LoveTriangle Diana's relationship with Adam and Cassie's feelings for Adam]]. Not only that, but Cassie [[spoiler:finds out that Diana is actually her biological half-sister due to the fact that she and Diana share the same father, John Blackwell]].
* TwoFirstNames
* UnresolvedSexualTension: Cassie has this with Adam. Although Adam is in a relationship with Diana, Cassie and Adam definitely had some serious chemistry and strong attraction to each other.
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: Cassie won't hesitate to kick someone's ass if they ever harm Adam.
%%* WillTheyOrWontThey: With Adam.
* WhiteMagicianGirl: Cassie primarily practices WhiteMagic, although she does occasionally dabble or experiment with her [[BlackMagic dark magic]].

Adam is a natural born male witch and one of the two male members of the Circle (along side Nick and later on, Jake). He was born to Ethan and Catherine Conant on January 28th, 1995 in Chance Harbour, Washington. Adam is instantly attracted to Cassie Blake, despite his relationship with Diana Meade. It is Adam who helps Cassie unlock her powers and encourages her to join the Circle.
----

* ActionHero: Adam is involved in all of the action on the show. Like all of the other witches in the Circle, Adam uses his magic to fight danger, evil or opponents.
* TheAllAmericanBoy: Adam is the epitome of this trope. He is wholesome, heroic, noble, and kind-hearted. He is the guy whom every girl wants to be with and who guys want to have as a friend.
* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: Adam never fails to protect or save Cassie (and Diana) as much as he can.
* AFriendInNeed: Adam is always there for his friends whenever they need him.
* BadassAdorable: Adam can kick anyone's ass if he wants to. He possesses the gift of magic after all. However, Adam is not one to resort to violence unless he has to.
* BadassBoast
* BattleCouple: With Cassie later on.
* BerserkButton: Hurt anyone that Adam cares about including his dad, his friends and especially Cassie, expect Adam to kick your ass.
* BettyAndVeronica: The Archie for Diana's Betty and Cassie's Veronica. Also, later on, the Betty to Jake's Veronica for Cassie's Archie.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Adam is generally a nice guy, but if you mess with him or the people he cares about, watch out.
* TheBigGuy: Adam is the most powerful male witch within the Circle and he is also unflinchingly loyal to a fault. He would never turn on the Circle or his friends. In fact, after Nick dies, Adam is the only remaining male witch of the Circle, until Jake comes later on in the series.
* BoyNextDoor: Adam is the friendly nice guy that everyone would want to get to know and befriend.

* OfficialCouple: First with Diana, and later on, with Cassie.
* OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent: Adam is a high school student like all of the other members of the Circle. Or at least he tries to act like he's an ordinary high school student because the reality is, he's not. He's a witch, for God's sake.
* HotWitch: Hot Warlock: Adam is attractive and he has two main female characters (Diana and Cassie) fighting for him and vying for his attention. He is the centre of the main [[LoveTriangle love triangle]] of the entire series (this includes the novel series as well).

* LoveTriangle: Adam is the centre of the main triangle of the series between Cassie/Adam/Diana. In the beginning, Diana is Adam's girlfriend but Adam feels an instant attraction or connection to Cassie. Adam often tries to fight it as well as Cassie for the sake of Diana. [[spoiler: Although later on, Diana does break up with Adam because of Adam's connection with Cassie.]] Later on in the series, Adam is in a love triangle with Jake and Cassie.
* MakingASplash: Adam has an affinity to water and controlling bodies of water.
%%zce* ManicPixieDreamGuy: For Cassie and Diana.
* MindOverMatter: Adam has the ability of controlling and manipulating the movements of objects and persons.

* MrFanservice
* NiceGuy: Adam is approachable, friendly and nice to almost everyone he meets. Unless you cross him, Adam is a caring, loyal friend.
* ParentalAbandonment: See MissingMom. Adam's mother, Catherine died when Adam was just a baby. Adam never had a mother growing up and he was raised by his father, Ethan. Despite Adam being in a relationship with Diana in the beginning, Adam can't prevent himself from having a strong, undeniable attraction and connection with Cassie. Much of this has to do with the fact that Adam and Cassie are [[ReincarnationRomance destined or "written in the stars"]].
* WhiteMagicianBoy: Adam only practices WhiteMagic; therefore, he uses his powers for good, for saving and protecting others.
%%* WillTheyOrWontThey: With Cassie.

Diana is good friends with Cassie Blake, despite the attraction between Cassie and Diana's long-term boyfriend, Adam. Diana is the first member of the Circle to discover witchcraft and, as of the series' start, the only member to have found her family's Book of Shadows.
----

* BadassBookworm: Diana is the smart and logical one in the circle.
* BattleCouple: With Adam in the beginning.
* {{Bookworm}}: Diana seems to love research. She also reads a lot.
* BrainyBrunette: Diana is smart, sensible and logical. In fact, Diana is seen as the smartest and most logical of the Circle, hence why she is normally seen as the leader of the Circle at first.
* BreakTheCutie: In the last few episodes, Diana's world literally comes crashing down when she finds out the man who raised her (Charles Meade) wasn't her real, biological father (John Blackwell is her real father), her mother cheated on him and had an affair (cheated on Charles Meade with John Blackwell), and, worst of all, he (Charles) murdered Cassie's (her half sister) mother, Amelia.
* BrokenBird: Diana faces so much pain and tragedy, especially later on in the series.
* ClingyJealousGirl: In regards to Adam. She is obviously jealous of Adam's strong and undeniable connection with Cassie, so much so that she grows extremely insecure.
* CuteBookworm
* CuteBruiser
* CuteWitch: Diana is a benevolent witch who practices WhiteMagic and uses her powers for good. She, like Cassie, possesses an ancestry of BlackMagic, but she is much more in control of it than her half-sister, Cassie.
* {{Determinator}}: Diana is probably one of the most determined members of the Circle. When she has a set plan, goal and mission, she will never give up on it and she will do anything and everything (except crossing the moral line) to make sure she succeeds.

* LadyOfBlackMagic: A beautiful, young, and intelligent witch who is much more mature than her half-sister. The BlackMagic is averted though, she's very much pro WhiteMagic due to her heroic nature. Her element is Earth, the most grounded element, as she's the most level-headed and reserved of the Circle.
* TheLeader: Diana is the leader of the Circle before Cassie shows up and joins the Circle. Even though Cassie eventually becomes the leader of the Circle once she begins to accept her witch heritage, Diana still organizes and plans many of the plans and missions. She also takes the lead in helping the rest of the Circle complete a mission.
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: Diana is the Light Feminine to Cassie's Dark, especially after they discover that they are half sisters who share the ancestry of dark magic.
* LongLostRelative: To Cassie. It is revealed in the middle of the season that Cassie and Diana share the same father (John Blackwell) and are therefore, long lost half-sisters.

Things between Diana and Cassie became even more complex when Diana [[spoiler: discovered that Cassie is actually her half sister due to the fact that she and Cassie share the same biological father, John Blackwell]].
* WhiteMagicianGirl: Although Diana possesses BlackMagic ancestry like her half sister Cassie, Diana refuses to experiment with it or dabble in it. She strictly practices WhiteMagic and uses her powers for good; using them for saving and protecting others.

* SuperpowerLottery: Because Melissa is a witch, she possesses special abilities and powers.
* TokenBlackFriend: She's Faye's best friend and she is the only black member of the Circle.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Melissa is the GirlyGirl to Faye's Tomboy. While Faye is more edgy and badass, Melissa is much more feminine and softer than Faye.

Nick is the only other male member of the Circle. He was born to Richard and Sara Armstrong on August 29th, 1994 in Chance Harbour, Washington. He is the younger brother of Jake Armstrong. Prior to the start of the show, he and Melissa Glaser developed a sexual relationship.
----
* ActionHero: Nick is a warlock who is involved in the action in the series.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Nick is the typical bad boy. He isn't relationship material, he's edgy, a bit tough and he has a tough exterior. Yet Melissa couldn't help but fall in love with him.
* AntiHero: Nick is one that has good intentions but he is much too complex to fit the regular hero type.
** Type III or Type IV.
* BackFromTheDead: Nick dies in episode 6 but is discovered to be alive again towards the end of the season. However, [[spoiler: Melissa ends up killing him in order to save herself and Jake's life.]]
* CameBackWrong: Nick did come back from the dead, but he didn't exactly come back normal.
* TheCasanova: Nick appears to be a huge player and seems to like his fair share of women. At first, Nick seemed to use Melissa as a sex toy without reciprocating any of Melissa's actual feelings. Overall, Nick was a huge player and a huge [[{{Jerkass}} jerk]]. However, Nick's attitude changed with time, especially in regards to Melissa. Nick admitted that he had genuine feelings for Melissa to her later on as the series progressed.
* TheCharmer
* CynicismCatalyst: Nick dies early in the season. His elder brother Jake comes back to town and tries to get revenge for Nick.
* DeadpanSnarker
* DemonicPossession: Nick was possessed by the demon Abaddon. Abaddon possessing Nick, tried to pass himself off as a member of the Circle. Jane tried to get rid of Abaddon and release him from Nick, but the crystal proved too much for the demon and Nick ended up retreating. As a result of Nick being able to be saved, [[spoiler: Charles ended up drowning Nick, resulting in his death. He later comes back and is discovered to be alive.]]
* DemotedToExtra: Nick was originally a love interest for Cassie in the novel series. However, he is killed off on the show and is replaced by his older brother, Jake (who wasn't a character in the novel series). Instead, Jake becomes a love interest for Cassie in Nick's place in the books.
* ElementalPowers: Nick possesses the ability of controlling or manipulating the elements of air, earth, fire, water, and weather. Though not proven false or accurate, witches are believed to possess an unique affinity to particular elements which grants them greater mastery and control when performing.
* FakeAmerican: Nick is American but his portrayer, Louis Armstrong, is from Australia.
* HiddenDepths: Much of Nick's jerkish behaviour has a lot to do with the loss of both of his parents. His jerkish attitude towards others is pretty much a facade to hide his vulnerability.
* [[HotWitch Hot Warlock]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite Nick initially coming off as a douche, he progresses as a character and starts to show that he genuinely does care for Melissa as well as his other Circle members. [[spoiler: However, Nick is killed off just as soon as Nick becomes a much nicer person.]]
* LoveRedeems: His relationship with Melissa revealed Nick's heart of gold.
* MindOverMatter: Nick has the ability of controlling and manipulating the movements of objects and persons.
* MrFanservice: Nick was often seen shirtless.
* ParentalAbandonment: Nick lost both of his parents, Richard and Sara, when he was just a toddler. Nick, along with his older brother Jake, was raised by his aunt and uncle.
* PlayingWithFire: Nick may not have possessed this ability on screen but he seemed to have had a natural affinity with fire.
* ShirtlessScene: Nick has his shirt off more than any other male character on the show.
* SimplifiedSpellcasting: Nick has the ability of changing and controlling events by magical influence. Spells are the most common method exerted by witches to focus their magic. Spells can range from simple commands to a series of words.
* TheSixthRanger: Nick seems to be the tag along of the other five members of the Circle.
* SummonMagic: Nick has the ability of calling, commanding, or summoning an element, object, person, or spirit already in existence.
* SuperpowerLottery: Because Nick is a warlock, he possesses special abilities and powers.
* TroubledButCute: Nick is the epitome of a brooding troubled youth. It is more than likely that Nick's issues stem from his parental abandonment or the death of his parents when he was a young child. However, despite his issues, Nick is still a hot one.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: Nick is always shirtless that Cassie often wonders if he even owns a shirt.
* WhiteMagicianBoy: Nick primarily used his abilities to help others and he only practiced WhiteMagic.

Jake is Nick Armstrong's older brother [[spoiler: and, following Nick's death, the replacement member of the Circle}]. He was born to Richard and Sara Armstrong on October 8th, 1992 in Chance Harbour, Washington. Although he is a witch, he has also acted as a witch-hunter, motivated by what he believed to be vengeance for his parents' deaths. His feelings for Cassie caused him to question his mission to destroy the Circle.
----

* ActionHero: Jake is a warlock and therefore, he's involved in a lot of the action in the series as are the other witches and warlocks.
* AlphaBastard: Jake always gets his own way and he will do everything in order to achieve his goals. He's overconfident and he's cocky. He could be sneaky and manipulative when he wanted to be, especially in the beginning.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Faye, Cassie, and probably many other girls have fallen under Jake's charms.
* AloofBigBrother: To Nick.
* AntiHero: Jake generally has good intentions although he does cross the moral line from time to time.
** Jake also had elements of a SociopathicHero, especially in the beginning. Jake seemed to have killed Calvin without any sense of guilt or remorse in the beginning. However, it was shown that Jake in fact did feel guilty about killing Calvin during his hallucinations. Jake also confessed to John Blackwell, that he wanted to change and become a better person.
* AntiVillain: Jake is a Type III. Although he generally has good intentions, he is the kind of person who will do anything to achieve his agenda, even crossing the moral line.
* BadassBoast
* BeautyIsBad: Jake is such a jerk, but he's so hot and good looking at the same time, that one can't help themselves.
* BeingGoodSucks: In the start of the series. However, Jake eventually changes.
* BelligerentSexualTension: Between himself and Cassie, much to Adam's disapproval.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Towards Nick.
* BoisterousBruiser
* BromanticFoil: To Adam.
* BroodingBoyGentleGirl: Jake is the Brooding Boy to Cassie's Gentle Girl. Jake was generally a dark, brooding, and cynical person and Cassie is more light-hearted, optimistic and caring. Cassie would often try to get Jake to be a much nicer guy and less of a jerk.
* ButNowIMustGo: Jake leaves after he saves Cassie's life, though he soon returns.
* CanonForeigner: Jake doesn't exist in the novel series, but his brother Nick is a canon character in the books.
* TheCasanova: Jake seems very much like the charmer and a ladies man. He also seems to be quite a bit of a player.
* CharacterDevelopment: Jake goes from a witch hunter who didn't have good intentions to someone who fights for his friends and other members of the circle.
* TheCharmer
* ChivalrousPervert
* CockFight: With Adam over the affections of Cassie.
* TheCynic
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Jake's past is rather chaotic and troubled; being parentless since a very young age could have contributed to Jake's troubled life.
* DeadpanSnarker: Jake has his fair share of sarcastic, witty comments opposite all of his fellow members of the Circle. He shares most of his sarcastic lines with Faye and he and Faye often engage in a SnarkToSnarkCombat.
%%* DefrostingIceKing: Jake becomes less arrogant, cocky and cold and much more kind and compassionate as the series progresses.
* {{Delinquent}}: Jake got into a lot of trouble during his life in Chance Harbour. According to Adam, Jake had worked at Adam's dad, Ethan's, Boathouse and had stolen everything that Ethan had, including all of the money. Jake was the epitome of trouble.
* DestructiveRomance: With Faye. Jake and Faye dated before Jake had left town. It didn't end well between them considering that Melissa said that the last time they broke up, Faye went into a severe downward spiral and depression.
* ElementalPowers: Jake possesses the ability of controlling or manipulating the elements of air, earth, fire, water, and weather. Though not proven false or accurate, witches are believed to possess an unique affinity to particular elements which grants them greater mastery and control when performing.
* ForTheEvulz
* HairTriggerTemper: Jake has a bit of a temper and can lose his cool quite easily.
* HandsomeLech
* HeartbrokenBadass
* HeelFaceTurn: Jake went from being a manipulative, immoral bad boy to a much kinder, heroic and caring person as the series progressed.
* HellBentForLeather
* HiddenDepths
* HiddenHeartOfGold
* HotBlooded
* [[HotWitch Hot Warlock]]: Jake has the epitome of hot and he's a edgy bad boy. He attracts girls like a moth to a flame.
* HunterOfHisOwnKind: Jake used to hunt warlocks and witches.
* InLoveWithTheMark: He falls for Cassie, whom he was supposed to kill.
* {{Jerkass}}: Jake has a very brooding, arrogant and overly confident demeanour. He doesn't exactly treat women with any respect either, something which both Faye and Melissa frequently comment about.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Jake becomes a much nicer person as the series progresses. Jake's cocky, arrogant and dick-ish behaviour was primarily a facade used to cover up his inner vulnerability.
* JerkJock: It's not confirmed if Jake plays any sports, but he certainly does have the persona of a jock who's overly confident and cocky. Plus, he is rather athletically built.
* KarmaHoudini: When Jake was cursed, he began to hallucinate about Calvin. Calvin haunted Jake because Jake had murdered him.
* LadykillerInLove
* LoveableRogue: Jake has done some morally questionable things, but the audience can't help but root for him, especially root for him to change.
* LoveRedeems
* LoveTriangle: Jake was in a love triangle with Cassie and Adam. Jake was the Veronica to Adam's Betty for Cassie's Archie.
* ManipulativeBastard
* MindOverMatter: Jake has the ability of controlling and manipulating the movements of objects and persons.
* MrFanservice
* ParentalAbandonment: Jake lost both of his parents when he was very young. Therefore, he was raised by his aunt and uncle.
* PlayingWithFire: Jake seems to possess the ability of starting and controlling fires.
* TheRival: To Adam. Mostly over Cassie but over other things as well. Adam and Jake haven't liked each other for years and their rivalry only heated up in regards to Cassie.
* SimplifiedSpellcasting: Jake has the ability of changing and controlling events by magical influence. Spells are the most common method exerted by witches to focus their magic. Spells can range from simple commands to a series of words.
* SmugSnake: Jake had a habit of treating both friends and enemies alike like completely terribly.
* TheSnarkKnight
* SociopathicHero: Especially in the beginning.
* SummonMagic: Jake has the ability of calling, commanding, or summoning an element, object, person, or spirit already in existence.
* SuperpowerLottery: Because Jake is a warlock, he possesses special abilities and powers.
* TroubledButCute: Oh boy, Jake is so good looking, but man, does he have a lot of baggage.
* TheUnfettered
* UnresolvedSexualTension: With Faye. Jake and Faye used to date before he had dumped her and left town. Yet, they still have some of that sexual chemistry brewing beneath the surface.
* [[YouKilledMyFather You Killed My Parents]]: Jake gets his revenge on Eben in "Family" — and it was a long time coming.
* WhiteMagicianBoy: Although Jake was reluctant about joining the Circle and didn't originally have noble intentions, Jake still practices WhiteMagic.
* TheWitchHunter: Jake was originally a witch hunter, who hated witchcraft and everything it stood for. He believed that witchcraft was only meant for evil. Before Jake joined the Circle, Jake's primary mission was to discover, expose, and eventually kill all of the members of the Circle as well as any other witches (an example of a witch that Jake had killed was Calvin).
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: He [[spoiler: wants to rid Chance Harbor of witches because he thinks magic killed his parents and brother]]. After learning the truth, he makes a HeelFaceTurn.

* ActionDad: Charles often finds himself amidst all of the action. He always knows what is going on around him, especially in regards to the Circle and the children practicing magic. Charles is always involved somehow.
* AntiVillain --> AntiHero: [[PragmaticHero Type III]] and [[UnscrupulousHero Type IV]]. He becomes more of this as the series progresses; he starts to become enlightened and sees the error of his past ways. Despite his immoral deeds, it has been shown that Charles is capable of empathy, affection and guilt.
* TheAtoner: Charles tries to make up for his villainous ways by trying to change. He even puts himself in the line of fire and sacrifices himself for the safety of Diana and the rest of the Circle.

* ControlFreak
* ElementalPowers: Charles possesses the ability of controlling or manipulating the elements of air, earth, fire, water, and weather. Though not proven false or accurate, witches are believed to possess an unique affinity to particular elements which grants them greater mastery and control when performing.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Later on, he discovers that he made many errors and that he decided to abandon his own villainous ways.
** Charles is horrified when Dawn suggests that they kill his mother and the other witch hunters are genuinely afraid of [[AxCrazy Eben]].
* FakeRelationship: He and Dawn pretend to be in a relationship. The truth is they are working together to get their power back, and claiming to be dating allows them to spend a lot of their spare time together to work toward this goal without anyone questioning it.
* HeelFaceTurn: Charles realizes the error of his ways and feels guilty for killing Amelia Blake. He even showed remorse for killing Nick Armstrong.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: In order to get rid of Abaddon, Charles had to drown Nick in water to destroy the demon. Charles didn't take drowning Nick too lightly though and actually felt guilt over doing what he did.

* KnightTemplar
* KnightTemplarParent: Charles is extremely protective of Diana.

* MrFanservice
* PapaWolf: Charles will do anything and everything to protect Diana at all costs.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: Charles in the season finale, though he may still be alive — we see him in a catatonic state at the end of the episode, with his mother doing something to his body.
** This is likely to be the same binding spell that Cassie's mother had placed on the demon host in the show previously. So he's still alive, just catatonic.
* SharpDressedMan

His guilt consumes him when John Blackwell releases a curse onto Charles and he sees and hears Amelia, who is Cassie's mother, whom he had killed at the start of the series.
* VisionaryVillain: Charles is very scheming and manipulative. Almost all of his crimes are motivated by an agenda or a goal he is wanting to reach.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Even if Charles has good intentions, he'll do some villainous and immoral things in order to achieve his endgame.

* BadPowersBadPeople: John practices and possesses BlackMagic, and because of this he is very powerful. However, John uses his powers for bad or ill intentions.
* TheChessmaster: John is the master at the art of lying, scheming, deception and manipulation. He uses people, including his own two daughters Cassie and Diana, as pawns in order to achieve or fulfill his shady agenda.
* ConsummateLiar: He can sound completely sincere even when telling flagrant lies.
* DarkIsEvil: He prefers dark-colored clothing and is definitely evil.
* DisappearedDad: John hasn't been in Cassie (and Diana's) life since she was born. However, John had told Cassie that he looked out for her from afar in order to protect her. In regards to Diana, John was completely unaware of her existence until Diana's teen years (Or so he says)
* EvilAllAlong: John was revealed to have had bad intentions all along, despite his earlier attempts at trying to protect Cassie and Diana and the rest of the Circle.
** In ''Family'', John used Cassie and Diana to create the crystal skull by destroying the original six crystals. While Cassie held the skull, John told her to give it to him causing Diana and Cassie to ask why she couldn't hold it. Which in turn caused John to use his magic to render Cassie and Diana unconscious. At the Abandoned House he trapped them in a circle with Colocasia Root so they couldn't use their magic to escape while he spelled the skull to kill all witches except those who are of the Balcoin bloodline.

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: He gave his power to Eben in order to allow the hunters to kill John Blackwell, trusting that he would only kill John. Eben killed half the circle, and failed to kill John. This is the other reason he is an alcoholic.

* KilledOffForReal: In ''Crystal'', Jane dies after Charles kills her using the crystal.
* MamaBear: Especially in regards to Cassie. Jane is highly protective of Cassie. She was also highly protective of her daughter, Amelia; she kept Amelia's heritage as a witch a secret from her in order to protect her from the pain, tragedy and trouble that often comes along with witchcraft.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Jane looks much too young to be a grandmother.
** This is probably due to the fact that Ashley Crow, Jane Blake's portrayer, is really only 52 years old in real life.
** FridgeBrilliance: The reason she's so young is because Amelia had Cassie in high school.
* NeverMessWithGranny: Jane may be a grandma, but she is still highly capable of kicking ass.
