The crux of the Bangkorai chapter is Septima Tharn trying to bait them into the Far Shores - where this connection is severed - and kill them there permanently, though it didn't work out the way she planned it to. However, GameplayAndStorySegregation is in play after the conclusion of the main questline, as the Vestige will have gained their soul back at the climax of that plotline, but dying will still allow them to pop back up like they've been doing up to that point.
