CosmicPlaything extraordinaire. An extremely nice kid who just happens to possess the worst luck in the universe, though things eventually start going his way. Sports an ever-present band-aid on the upper-left side of his forehead.
* AmusingInjuries: If it can hurt him without killing him then it will happen.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He's a very gentle and amiable fellow, with a ''legendary'' amount of patience. Piss him off, however, and he will tear through a space armada to hunt you down, ''[[BeyondTheImpossible yank your ship out of hyperspace]]'' and crush it into a little ball, with you on board!
* BornUnlucky: He is notorious for having a bad-luck field. His parents close shop and customers ''flee in terror'' when he returns home from school.
* TheCallKnowsWhereYouLive: Or happen to live nearby where the call usually goes. As Seina is [[WeirdnessMagnet Tenchi's neighbor]] and Amane recruited him because she thought that Seina is Tenchi's relative. Well, that, and surviving a ''spaceship'' landing on him.
* ChekhovsSkill: In the early episodes, his bad luck field triggers a malfunction with the hull's emergency sealing system, and he notes that energy weapons trigger an immediate and opposite reaction, forcing him to use his decidedly low-tech knife to cut his way free, as well as being taught how to manipulate said system. In the finale, he is attacked by his ArchEnemy who is coming at him with an energy blade. Guess what he does in response.
* TheChewToy: Seto's personal chew toy.
* ChickMagnet: Not just his crew but handmaidens and the academy's nurse.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: With Kiriko.
* CluelessChickMagnet: Seina is completely oblivious to any girl who shows attraction to him.
* CosmicPlaything: PlayedForLaughs; comically horrible things [[AmusingInjuries regularly happen]] to him and he always survives.
* CursedWithAwesome: Horrendously bad luck means nothing will go right when he's around. It also turns out to work on everyone indiscriminately (including space pirates). As a result, he gets a job with an extremely fat paycheck (the ''interest'' of his savings account is enough for his family to upgrade from a family store to a supermarket!) and gets him married to 8 hot women and 1 RidiculouslyCuteCritter.
* CuteClumsyGirl: He's frequently a {{Gender Flip}}ped example of this trope.
** At the end of every episode you can see him repeatedly trip during the credits.
* {{Determinator}}: Seina suffers through days of a Physical Training regimen designed for cadets with SuperStrength just to prove to himself that he has the right to be there.
* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: Justified by having to adjust to surgical strength enhancements before being sent to space.
* DoubleInlawMarriage: At the end, [[spoiler: he gets married to Kiriko while his sister gets married to Kiriko's younger brother.]]
* EnsignNewbie: He wasn't even a newbie as Seina is still a trainee who just finished his basic training. He is assigned to be a ship captain as part of his advance training simply because he is one hell of pirate magnet that once single-handedly broke the universal record of pirate encounter during his travel to the academy.
** While the academy only give him the position for his pirate magnet ability and assign him two [[HypercompetentSidekick very competent sidekicks]] to do the actual work, Seina does gets ''better'' as a captain from there on despite lacking experience or training.
* ExtremeDoormat: To his parents and younger sister. They all grab him and physically ''force'' his thumbprint (which counts as a legal signature in Japan) onto the GP application before any of them even read it.
* FallingIntoTheCockpit: He's actually ''thrown'' into the cockpit by the residents of a planet that needed a skilled spaceship/mecha pilot.
* GenerationXerox: An official doujin by Masaki Kajishima shows his son with Kiriko having a ChildhoodFriend version of an UnwantedHarem with Ayeka and Ryoko's daughters. See [[http://tenchiforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&p=21646#p21646 here]].
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: Seto realizes that a 'bad luck field' makes him great pirate bait and because the bad luck affects everyone around him indiscriminately, the pirates don't survive the encounter as free pirates.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: Naturally, as the series is a spin-off to the original ''Tenchi'' [=OVAs=].
* [[ItsNotYouItsMyEnemies Its Not You Its My Bad Luck]]: In the Light novels Seina presents this as the main reason he's not responding to the attentions of his haremettes.
* TheJinx: His bad luck often bleeds off onto those around him. Soon, the Galaxy Police weaponize this trait (at Seto's suggestion).
* MadeOfDiamond: He survives having a ''spaceship'' land on him in the very first episode, and is in perfect health the very next scene, yet strangely often sports AmusingInjuries, and wears a bandage on his head for no explained reason.
* MarryThemAll: An interesting case. At the end of the series [[spoiler:he's about to get married to the four members of his harem only to have said harem increase due to four minor characters kidnapping him during the wedding and... [[AssShove sealing the]] [[BlackComedyRape deal]].]]
* MistakenForBadass: Amane only tries to recruit Seina as she thought that Seina is Tenchi's student and knew the terrible secret of space simply because he happened to be near Tenchi's house, knew Tenchi, and survive ship crashing on him with minimal damage. He does [[TakeALevelInBadass take multiple levels in Badass]] and becomes very influential in GP and Jurai [[spoiler:ESPECIALLY near the finale when he becomes third in line to the Juraian throne (behind Yosho and Tenchi)]].
* NiceGuy: Despite his poor luck, Seina always manages to smile and treat everyone with kindness and respect, it's part of the reason why the girl's love him so much.
* OhCrap: Very briefly at the end of the series. The wedding day is notorious for terrifying men getting married to one wife, let alone ''four.'' There's also the fact that Seina was rightly worried that all four of his prospective brides would come to resent him because the marriage was for political reasons, not out of love. To ease his fears, a trusted friend suggested he speak to his blushing brides first. [[RunningGag Of course, seeing your bride in her wedding dress before the wedding is universally considered to be ''very'' unlucky.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: An entire fleet of rogue military vessels was scared shitless when Seina, of all people, tore through them like paper and ''graphically crushed Shank's spaceship into a ball while it was still fully occupied.'' Seina doesn't regret it a bit. Never ever screw with the guy whose bad luck can turn on his enemies.
* PointlessBandAid: Seina is always wearing a band-aid on his forehead just below the hairline. This is never explained, nor is he shown changing it at any time.
* RedBaron: "Lorelei" Seina.
* {{Reincarnation}}: the novels reveal that Seina is the reincarnation of Kazuki from ''Anime/DualParallelTroubleAdventure''
* SpotTheThread: Despite not knowing Amane very long, he noticed something was ''off'' regarding the "Amane" that was trying to experiment on him.
* UnderstandingBoyfriend: Childhood friend is a black ops specialist, who can and will bathe in the blood of her enemies? The teacher who recruited him is TheTease and a very TriggerHappy HardDrinkingPartyGirl who thinks leaving the fashion model business is being a DefectorFromDecadence? Getting romanced by a shape-shifting Space pirate that wants to perform human experimentation on him? Having a girl who is ReallySevenHundredYearsOld that looks, and acts, like a small child try to cater to you by calling you "big brother?" Having your wedding ceremony being interrupted by four women who outright kidnap you and [[BlackComedyRape force you to consummate marriage with them on camera?]] That's cool. It's just how they roll.
* UnexpectedSuccessor: [[spoiler:Due to finding and bonding with the only other 1st gen Juraian Royal Tree in existence.]]
* UnfazedEveryman: It's harder to be any more unfazed than Seina. Not being traumatized by being kidnapped from his own wedding and forced to consummate relations with four women who are near complete strangers is over-the-top for anyone. Oh, and it's implied that Seto ''wanted'' this to happen!
* UnluckyEverydude: Redefined by Seina. WORSE than Tenchi.
* UnwantedHarem: He is uncomfortable to the point of 'scared' by all the female attention he gets. [[FridgeBrilliance This is why he gets so much of it; more bad luck.]]
* WalkingWasteland: Of bad luck.
* WillfullyWeak: Averted. Seiryo Tannan forced Seina to take the physical training classes designed for people who have already undergone the strength enhancing surgery required for space prior to actually getting the procedure himself in order to break him and get him thrown out of the academy. Seina, with pure willpower, survives ''enhanced'' physical training classes with a normal human body for 2 days before the academy found out and put a stop to Seiryo's scheme.

[[folder:Amane Kaunaq]]
->Voiced by: Mariko Suzuki (Japanese), Creator/DorothyEliasFahn (English)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amane_kaunaq.jpg]]

The GP detective who accidentally scouted Seina , Amane is a former fashion model and [[TheOjou daughter of one of the richer families in the galaxy]], who gave up her old life to become an ActionGirl and [[TheLadette Ladette]]. Yet another of Mihoshi's old partners.
* ActionGirl: She's not just the ship's gunner, she's good with guns and in hand to hand too.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Seina's the first guy she's ever liked. Why? Because he's nice to her without ulterior motives, ''and'' still finds her both beautiful and sexually attractive.
* BettyAndVeronica: The Veronica to Kiriko's Betty.
* BigFancyHouse: Her "second home" at the Academy.
* CallToAdventure: She delivered it to Seina.
* CartwrightCurse: Sort of. Prior to meeting Seina, her father tried to fix her up with various suitors. Each of them was worse than the last.
* CoolBigSis: She often acts this way towards junior cadets.
* CrashIntoHello: With a ''spaceship!''
* DaddysGirl: She used to be one, but rebelled. Her father's still not over it.
* DefectorFromDecadence: How she sees leaving the fashion model business to become a member of Galactic Police.
* {{Expy}}: Of Ryoko from the main series.
* TheFashionista: She used to be a fashion model before becoming a GP officer.
* TheGadfly: As early as the first episode to Seina. After performing a KissOfLife on him as part of rescuing him from the fact that ''she landed a spaceship on him'' in the first episode, she left lipstick on his cheek. He was completely unaware until Koriko showed him a mirror.
* GoodParents: For the most part. Her father thought Seina is TheCasanova, and took an immediate dislike. Her mother, on the other hand, not only pointed out [[HorribleJudgeOfCharacter how bad he is at reading Amane's suitors]] but liked what she saw after getting a first hand look at Seina's character, and the fact that Seina genuinely makes Amane happy.
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: When she's not on duty, it's rare to see her without booze in hand.
* HotForStudent: She's had a bit of a crush on Seina before, during, and after he was her student in the academy.
* TheLadette: She mostly acts like "one of the boys."
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: She's a party girl and the reason Seina was pulled away from deary Earth into the excitement of Space.
* MotorMouth: Amane sometimes gives [[Manga/ExcelSaga Excel]] a run for her money.
* MsFanservice: She can make being ''completely disheveled'' look sexy. Seina's noticed, and she noticed that he noticed, and doesn't hesitate to play it for all it's worth.
* {{Ojou}}: She's not a princess but sufficiently high status and wealthy.
* SatelliteCharacter: While she has had some development, it clear that she exists largely to cling off Seina for most of the series.
* SheCleansUpNicely: Even though she's a ''former'' fashion model, she still looks good on the runway, much to Seina's delight, and he doesn't hesitate to tell her.
* TheTease: Constantly to Seina.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: She has boyish short hair, wears shorts, loves to solve problems with her fists, and tends to be very impolite. Yet, she's hot and she knows it, and loves to play it up just to get a reaction from Seina.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kiriko Masaki]]
->Voiced by: Creator/KumiSakuma (Japanese), Creator/WendeeLee (English)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kirikoyall.jpg]]

A distant cousin of Tenchi's, Kiriko is Seina's childhood friend (with {{Tsundere}} qualities) who has looked after him since they were little. Unbeknownst to him, she has also been working for the GP all this time.
* BettyAndVeronica: The Betty to Amane's Veronica.
* BewareTheNiceOnes[=/=]LetsGetDangerous: She is definitely one of the nicer girls, but don't let that fool you. In combat situations, she can transform into a cold-blooded killer, and entirely focuses on the bloody work at hand.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: With Seina.
* {{Expy}}: of Ayame
* GoodIsNotSoft: An extension of the above. Shank's crew attacking the ship? Seina's life in jeopardy? Kiriko dons her battle suit, activates its cloaking feature, and silently goes on the warpath, ''murdering'' space pirates left and right with laser-guided focus and not the slightest ounce of mercy--to the point that she failed to notice that Seina saw [[BloodSplatteredWarrior her blood-covered form]] while encountering Shank, his frightened reaction both surprising and distressing Kiriko for a time after.
* HiddenDepths: Kiriko isn't just a teacher/paper pusher - she's a hardened warrior that made one of the fiercest pirates freeze up when she glared at him.
* HimeCut: She has the grace associated with this hairstyle [[spoiler:and ultimately becomes a princess of Jurai.]]
* HotForStudent: To be fair, she liked him ''before'' she became his teacher.
* InvisibilityFlicker: When activating her suit's cloaking ability.
* SatelliteCharacter: A bit more character development than the others, but still applies.
* SheCleansUpNicely: Seina was so impressed by how she looked in Jurai formal wear that he was disappointed when she switched back to her GP uniform.
* SomethingElseAlsoRises: As she discovered trying to wake Seina up one morning.
* TakingYouWithMe: Her response to Shank attacking her ship and trying to harm Seina. Justified as Shank is ''notorious'' for killing the crews of ships he raids, even if they surrender without resistance, and Shank's ship was too strong to take on with conventional weapons.
* {{Tsundere}}: Mild Type B. She does her best to be polite to others and when she gets mad at Seina it's because she's worried about him.
* YamatoNadeshiko: She's polite and graceful and just as 'devious and wicked' as the Devil Princess herself. She has long hair with a HimeCut. Most importantly, she's the only one of Seina's love interests that's from Japan.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ryoko Balta/Balouta]]
->Voiced by: Creator/AyaHisakawa (Japanese), Creator/BarbaraGoodson (English)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ryokobaltayall.jpg]]

She's an [[NobleDemon honorable]] space pirate who has somehow gained an immense fan-club among GP officers, who revere her as an idol. [[WeCanRuleTogether She tried to recruit Seina as a pirate on his way to the academy]], and they continued encountering each other afterwards. Named for the [[ShoutOut Ryoko of the original series]].
* AscendedFangirl: Of the original Ryoko. Although she does a good job of mastering Ryoko's "look," their personalities are quite different.
* TheCommiesMadeMeDoIt: Kidnapped as a child and brainwashed into becoming a pirate.
* {{Expy}}: Of [[Manga/AhMyGoddess Peorth]], in terms of look and mannerisms.
* GutFeeling: A flashback reveals that she was part of the rather large fleet of pirates chasing Seina at the start of the series, but she sensed something was amiss and backed off, to the chagrin of her crew... until Seto's ship showed up, and they all praised their captain's insight.
* HighHeelFaceTurn: She's the only pirate to join the good guys and one of two females.
* IOweYouMyLife: This is why she joined Seina's crew.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: She had to be told what her real identity was.
%%* PirateGirl
%%* SatelliteCharacter
%%* ThirdOptionLoveInterest
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Often shown in the credits, and commercial breaks. [[spoiler: For undisclosed reasons able to shape-shift into female humanoid and hybrid forms, such as Amane, Erma, or a mermaid. Lost princess of Baluta.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Neju/Neige na Melmas]]
->Voiced by: Creator/NanaMizuki (Japanese), [[Creator/SandyFox Marie Danielle]] (English)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/neju_na_melmas.png]]

A high priestess with PsychicPowers whom Seina first meets on Jurai. She falls for Seina and decides to join up with his crew after being released from her duties. Despite being ReallySevenHundredYearsOld, she serves as the show's TokenMiniMoe.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Exploited. After hearing Seina has a little sister she calls him 'big brother' and acts like an adoring little sister.
* CreepyChild: Her true nature is a powerful and scary old lady but her body looks like a little girl.
* DeliberatelyCuteChild: Enjoys acting like a little kid despite being the oldest on the ship.
* SatelliteCharacter: Her character arc was resolved in her introduction.
* TokenMiniMoe: Like Sasami before, she's the cute little character. The difference is that she's not really a child.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:NB]]
->Voiced by: Creator/ShinichiWatanabe (Japanese), Creator/BobPapenbrook (English)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/download_884.jpg]]

Seina's RobotBuddy (and AuthorAvatar for the series' director, Creator/ShinichiWatanabe). NB frequently ditches Seina in order to roam around [[DirtyOldMan videotaping the girls' locker rooms and peeping on his harem]].
* AbhorrentAdmirer: [=NaBiko=], a DistaffCounterpart robot built to chase ''him'' around.
* AuthorAvatar: Oddly enough, he has little in common with Creator/ShinichiWatanabe's usual avatar Nabeshin, like in ''Anime/ExcelSaga.''
* BabiesEverAfter: We wish this would be the weirdest thing in the series, or even the weirdest thing regarding him, but still, somehow, in the ending he's stuck taking care of a ''fleet'' of '''baby robots''' resulting from the "affections" of [=NaBiko=].
* BlackComedyRape: Of robots by {{Fembot}}s.
* DirtyOldMan: NB. Quite unusual behavior a RobotBuddy...
* LovableSexManiac: As long as it's not [=NaBiko=].
* SecondLawMyAss: He tells Seina what to do instead of the other way around.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fuku]]
->Voiced by: Creator/TomokoKaneda (Japanese; ''GXP'' and ''Ryo-Ohki 3''), Creator/ChieNakamura (Japanese; ''Ryo-Ohki 5'' onwards), Deanna Morris (English)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/15gxp06f.jpg]]

{{Expy}} and technical younger sister of the OVA's Ryo-Oh-Ki, Fuku is given to Seina after a particularly dangerous mission. Fuku acts as the mind and power source for Seina's second CoolShip, the Kamidake II.
* BerserkButton: She doesn't have one, but what happens if you make Fuku cry? You get to deal with a Planet Destroyer and Ryo-Oh-Ki the same time! Pirates found this out the hard way. It gets worse when Shank abuses Fuku's clones. Seina finds out and wrecks Shank's base.
* CowardlyLion: Normally shy and afraid but with sufficient encouragement she can face a fleet of pirates.
* MeaningfulName: Means "luck," a shortening of 幸福 ''Kou'''fuku''''' (Good '''luck''').
** FridgeBrilliance in-universe example: it's brought up why he didn't name her "kou" instead (because both "Kou" and "fuku" can be used to mean luck). He explains it's because "kou'" can also be used in 不幸 ''fu'''kou''''' for '''bad''' luck.
* ThePowerOfLove: The more she is cared for by the crew the more power she can supply to the ship.
[[/folder]]

!Supporting Characters
[[folder:Airi Masaki]]
->Voiced by: Creator/SakikoTamagawa (Japanese), Creator/KariWahlgren (English)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/airi_masaki.jpg]]

Chairwoman of the Galaxy Academy, and therefore the GP Academy. Yosho's wife, and therefore Tenchi's [[BerserkButton grandmo]] -- ''mother's mother''. Runs a small restaurant in her spare time.
* BerserkButton: Being called "Grandmother" or "Granny" or any similar term. Don't say '''anything''' of the sort if you value your well-being.
* EccentricMentor: Uh, yeah...
* InsistentTerminology: She hates being called "grandmother" or "grandma", despite the fact that she is Tenchi's grandmother.
* MalignedMixedMarriage: Her relationship with Yosho was frowned upon, especially since she was already engaged, so when she first got pregnant by him she actually had the embryo removed and placed in stasis until she could break off her existing engagement and return to the Academy, where she had the embryo put back into her and gave birth naturally to her daughter Minaho.
* PointyEars: Shows that she's a native of Airai.
* PrimAndProperBun
* TangledFamilyTree: {{Lampshaded}} -- she literally pulls out a family tree diagram when she explains to Seina how she's related to Tenchi.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Seto Kamiki Jurai]]
->Voiced by: Yukari Nozawa (Japanese), Melora Harte (English)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ladyseto_7.jpg]]

Feared by most of the galaxy as the "Oni (Devil) Princess of Jurai" (''Jurai no Oni-hime''), she's a high-ranking member of Jurai's royal family, [[TheManBehindTheMan The Woman Behind The Emperor]], and Tenchi's great-great-great... ''nobody''.[[note]]For a change, she's not actually related to Tenchi in any way, being the mother of his great-grandfather TheEmperor ''other'' wife. And the BFF of one of Tenchi's wives, and grandmother of the two others, but that doesn't count. She's also a Kamiki [[HappilyAdopted only by adoption]].[[/note]] She's infamous for her use of ThePlan and also loves [[JerkAss messing with people and their love lives for the lulz]]. She makes Seina her ''special'' friend early on...

* ActionGirlfriend: To the point that her husband [[FourStarBadass Utsutsumi]] often feels redundant.
* BodyDouble: Later entries in the series reveal that Seto makes use of a woman named Kuis Panta as a double, but the two periodically sync their memories so both can be said to be Seto. They did this after Seto was injured in an accident so as not to tip off Jurai's enemies that the Demon Princess was out of commission.
* CheshireCatGrin: Whenever she's feeling mischievous, sometimes bordering on SlasherSmile.
* TheDreaded: The mere presence of her communication ID is enough to cause an entire fleet of hardened pirates to shut down all equipment, '''including life support,''' to show that they're surrendering without resistance. Let's '''not''' think of the outcome if they hadn't done so...
* GambitRoulette: Most of the series, especially Seina's love life, was orchestrated by her. The ''Roulette' is especially applicable here because her plans have to accommodate Seina's bad luck field.
* GodWasMyCopilot: It's eventually revealed in the novels that she is really Washu's long-lost [[PseudoRomanticFriendship best friend]] Naja Akara. For unknown reasons she was deaged and left without her memories where she was later found.
* GuileHero: Ayeka admits that Seto is far more powerful than even the Emperor Azusa, in part because she is so adept at forming alliances and twisting the arms of important people.
* HappilyAdopted: She's been adopted into the Kamiki house without any usual drama, and gets to be the most powerful person th the Galaxy.
* TheHighQueen: Princess, actually, but still.
* InsultBackfire: "Devious and wicked" is a compliment.
* ItAmusedMe:
** Her primary hobby is causing chaos to relieve boredom (and collecting [[TheChewToy chew toys]] for this purpose). There is a reason she is feared...
** ''Especially'' [[spoiler: the wedding fiasco. When called out on it, she only responds by laughing. She had a PsychoticSmirk right before laughing as well.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She does mean well (in a twisted sense) and won't spread chaos that she can't fix.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Was found lost and amnesiac in space, and was adopted into the Kamiki family.
* TheManBehindTheMan: Gender-flipped. It's her who is a true mover and shaker of the Juraian Empire.
* ManipulativeBastard: What she does in the love lives of others.
* TheMatchmaker: Both for political purposes and screwing with other people's lives.
* MayDecemberRomance: Met her future husband Utsutsumi when she was 4,500 years old while the latter was only 9 at the time. She semi-blackmailed Utsutsumi into marrying her 130 years later.
* MysteriousPast: Heavily implied to have ''some'' sort of connection to Naja Akara, Washuu's fellow scientist and friend who disappeared mysteriously in the same area where the young Seto was rescued. [[spoiler:It's confirmed later in the novels that she is in fact Naja and wiped her own memories for unknown reasons.]]
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: ''Jurai no Onihime'', or ''Devil Princess'' of Jurai.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Despite her vague thirty-something appearance, Seto is actually at least a [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld couple of thousand years old]].
* OneManArmy: Just see what she's done with the pirates in ''GXP''.
* PowerTrio: One of the Three Great Princesses who actually ''[[TheChessmaster run]]'' the Galaxy.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: She's somewhere between 5000 to 6000 years old. She looks looks like she's in her mid thirties.
* RedBaron: She's known as ''The Devil Princess of Jurai".
* SatelliteCharacter: For all her importance in-story, she appears in the original OVA only as a cameo and didn't appear properly until ''GXP''.
* SupremeChef: Heavily implied to have taught Sasami.
* TricksterMentor: She wouldn't have to mess with them if they didn't need it.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Erma]]
->Voiced by: Niina Kumagaya (Japanese), Creator/RebeccaForstadt (English)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/erma.jpg]]

A [[FunnyAnimal Wau]] scientist who often functions as Seina's nurse, and happens to have an interest in Seina, despite the species gap. [[spoiler: Elma is actually Ryoko (the one above) in disguise.]]
* CatGirl
* [[MasterOfDisguise Mistress of Disguise]]: She disguises herself as Amane in one episode to lure Seina in to be experimented on. Despite very nearly seeing through it, Seina still agrees only because he's unfamiliar with alien customs and laws.
* [[spoiler:TheMole]]

Mihoshi's mother, a janitor for the Galaxy Police. She's able to teleport randomly when she gets engrossed in cleaning; because of this, she's made friends in both Juraian royalty and among the space pirates. She has an UncannyFamilyResemblance to her daughter.
* AlmightyJanitor: A literal janitor who has friends in high places on both sides of the law. She also highly versed in space warfare and shown give important advice and consultation in space warfare tactics to vessel ''captains'' in need that [[NoSenseOfDirection she happen to be with.]]
* CloudCuckoolander: Just look at how she reacts to getting chased by pirates.
* GenerationXerox: She's basically an older, more mature, and (vaguely) more competent version of Mihoshi.
* GeniusDitz: Do we have to ask?
* NoSenseOfDirection: She's been everywhere possible. [[OffscreenTeleportation This is a woman who can get aboard a pirate ship while cleaning the bathroom at the Galaxy Police HQ]].

A flashy, flamboyant man who serves as Seina's SadistTeacher during his academy days. He's incredibly bitter about having "lost" a duel against Tenchi in the main OVA storyline (he was the guy that came with the Jurai clan in ''Here Comes Jurai'' and was originally assigned to marry Ayeka. He would up losing said duel when Mihoshi's ship splashed into the nearby lake and sweeping him into the water before he could even make a move), and as a result, has developed a particularly nasty [[FantasticRacism hatred for earthlings]]. Despite ostensibly being one of the "good guys" early on, he pulls a FaceHeelTurn for the sake of his family's business after being kidnapped by pirates, and attempts to make himself into Seina's [[TheRival Rival]] from then on.
* AscendedExtra: Didn't have much of a role in the original OVA, here he's finally more than just a background character. Oh, and Seiryo gets a happy ending.
* ButtMonkey: Bad things happen to him regularly. It's worse now that he's in the presence of a walking bad luck field.
* ContinuityNod: His hatred for earthlings stems from "losing" to Tenchi in the OVA.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Despite his over confidence and idiotic behavior, people know to not get into a fight with him.
* {{Determinator}}: To the point of absurdity in GXP. No matter what the girls do to him, he usually always... '''always''' returns in hopeless attempts to court Amane, as the two were previously engaged in a ArrangedMarriage in the past, though Amane fervently hates Seiryo and as such she cancelled said marriage. Regardless, [[spoiler:until near the ending of GXP,]] he continuously approaches Amane in his usual attempts to reignite their dissolved arranged marriage, which always results in a shameful defeat for him.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Hates Earthlings because he "lost" his duel with Tenchi when really it was Mihoshi's ship splashing into the nearby lake and washing him away. But, the guy is so prideful, he just put the blame on Earthlings because of, well, personal reasons.
* FaceHeelTurn: Early on for the sake of his family's business.
* GeneralFailure: He's incompetent and most of his plans fail; his rank is due to nepotism.
** The man could be [[{{WesternAnimation/Futurama}} Zapp Brannigan's]] more-effeminate cousin.
* GiverOfLameNames: He was the one who decided to name the ship ''Unko'', due to the fact that every other "lucky" name was taken at the time. It's supposed to mean "bringer of fortune", unfortunately for Seiryo, "Unko" also means, and is more commonly used to refer to, ''poop''.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: [[spoiler:He worked for the GP and then to the pirates, then killed a pirate while still being a pirate and then almost bested the BigBad for the heroes.]] Justified as [[spoiler: he was forced by the needs of family business and disliked pirates before hand.]]
* HighClassFan: Being a SissyVillain, he always carries a hand fan with him, which further denotes his flashy and flamboyant personality.
* SetSwordsToStun: Somehow does this with a LaserBlade, which was confusing even InUniverse.
* SissyVillain: He's a walking {{Camp}} stereotype.
* TookALevelInBadass: Seiryo was introduced in an OVA episode as a hyper-effeminate throwaway adversary who could be defeated by a splash of water. He was reintroduced in this show as a comic relief stalker villain whose role consisted largely of getting his butt kicked by ActionGirl [[MsFanservice Amane]]. Later, he ''beats the BigBad in a sword fight!'' He says, "Yep, I'm a badass" afterward.
* TookALevelInJerkass: In the OVA, Seiryo was a slightly snobbish but reasonably respectful man who wanted to marry Princess Ayeka [[ArrangedMarriage with her father's approval even if she was very reluctant]]. In this show, he's a stalker and a racist with a sadistic attitude toward one of his students. He eventually [[spoiler: becomes one of the leaders of a crime syndicate that literally fights battles with the police force he used to be part of]].
* UnderestimatingBadassery: In the parent show, he thinks that Tenchi will be an easy opponent. He never gets the chance to find out how ''wrong'' he is.
* UpperClassTwit: His ego is bigger than his family's status.

Another SpacePirate. Ends up guarding Seiryo Tennan, then serving under him.
* AmazonianBeauty: Uh, yeah. She also gets a happy ending with Seiryo.
* CallBack: Seina takes a moment to say hi near the end, despite having only met her once.
* IOweYouMyLife: To Seina. In the early episodes, when a malfunction of his ship's emergency hull-sealing system traps her in crystal, he shows her how to escape. In return she warns him to avoid Shank, at all costs. [[BornUnlucky Unfortunately, he winds up in an encounter with Shank anyway.]]
* NobleDemon: Despite being a pirate, she clearly has a strong moral compass, and an unshakable sense of honor.
* [[OnlySaneMan Only Sane Woman]]: lampshades this when commenting that her sanity is only making Seiryo dumber than ever.

[[folder:Tarant Shank]]
->Voiced by: Yuki Matsuda (Japanese), Creator/KimStrauss (English)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tarrant_shank.png]]

A SpacePirate. Makes a classic entrance as a KnightOfCerebus, but Seina's luck tends to undercut him anticlimactically. Implied to have [[InLoveWithYourCarnage a crush on Kiriko.]]
* AxCrazy: Even by pirate standards, he's needlessly cruel and bloodthirsty.
* TheDeterminator: He survived most events that would kill normal people. He even survives his ship being crushed into a tiny ball and then absorbed into a brief, miniature black hole by a HumongousMecha.
* DickDastardlyStopsToCheat: In his duel with Seiryo, Shank tries to deploy the gun in his prosthetic arm. Seiryo has already closed the distance and gotten within sword range before Shank could draw a bead, causing the latter to lose the duel.
* DirtyCoward: If the stakes are too high, he'll run away to plot revenge.
* TheDreaded: He really wants to be one. Every time he appears, he's engaging in pointless cruelty ForTheEvulz, and has a very hideous track-record of OffScreenVillainy. Unfortunately for him, Seina's bad luck field constantly makes him an IneffectualSympatheticVillain, and he ''hates it'' with every fiber of his being.
* FamedInStory: A truly villainous version. He and his ship are both well-known, and considered a top-priority among the GP because his crew ''kills'' the entire crew of any ship they raid, even if the other ship surrenders without resistance.
* HateSink: He is so evil that he isn't forgiveable by any means. And we really hate him for the useless fool that he is.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: The reason Seina found his hideout on a back water planet he's been terrorizing? Shanks kidnapped Fuku, and Seina followed him. All attempts to kill Seina failed, owing to the latter's bad luck effect.
* HollywoodCyborg: After a few too-narrow escapes.
* ItsPersonal: While he ''normally'' raids civilian, police, and sometimes military vessels and slaughters the crew, and thinks nothing of it, he targets Seina early in the series because his father was one of the very first pirates who was coincidentally captured as a direct result of Seina's "bad luck field." By the end of the story, he's become so enraged by Seina both literally and figuratively dismantling his entire pirate career and infrastructure that he infiltrates Seina's wedding ''and tries to wipe out Seina's entire bloodline.'' [[SealedEvilInACan Of course, Seina takes him down without even really trying.]]
* KickTheDog: Nearly crushes a Cabbit to death at one point.
* KnightOfCerebus: He tries to be this, it doesn't work.
* MeaningfulName: You know what it means to "shank" somebody right? Also he's near the top of a pirate organization and treats his subordinates and any poor sod who crosses his path very, very poorly. He's a tyrant that shanks people.
* OffscreenVillainy: He has a long track-record of brutally murdering the entire crews of ships he raids, and near the final episode leads his band of pirates to RapePillageAndBurn an entire planet's population, only being stopped by Seina.
* SmugSnake: He thinks he is utterly superior to everyone else in the universe, in every aspect, without exception. He couldn't be more wrong if he tried.
* [[SociopathicSoldier Sociopath Pirate]]: hunted Seina with a smile.
* WeCanRebuildHim: Eventually gets a synthetic eye and arm.
* WrongGenreSavvy: He's a relatively low key, ruthless bad guy who clearly thinks he's in a show that takes its SpaceOpera elements seriously. In reality, he's in a series that favors over the top hammy joke villains and fanservice humor over anything else. Really, it's like he took a wrong turn at ''Anime/OutlawStar'' and ended up on this show somehow...
** He keeps trying to be a very, very dangerous foe. He keeps trying to cross the MoralEventHorizon. But this isn't that kind of show, so he's never allowed to be as evil as he wants to be.

[[folder:Da Luma]]
-> Voiced by: Toshihiko Nakajima (Japanese), Mel Dasher (English)

Leader of the Daluma Guild [[SpacePirate Pirates]].
* AffablyEvil
* BigBad: Not really. He may be a pirate guild leader, but he's got better ethics and common sense than Shank.
* GoKartingWithBowser: He and Seina are shown chatting quite amiably after his arrest, and Seina's actually quite sympathetic with his plight.
* MeaningfulName: Da Luma is named after (and all his stuff resembles) [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daruma_doll round dolls depicting Bodhidharma]] (called ''Daruma'' in Japanese), which are a type of good luck charm.
