[[folder:First appearing in ''The Fairy Godmother'']]

!!Elena Klovis

Elena is a 21-year-old woman living with her horrible stepmother Madeleine and her stepsisters Daphne and Delphinium in the capital of the Kingdom of Otraria. Her stepmother has spent the family fortune and has racked up a dreadful amount of debt. She flees to the countryside with her daughters, leaving Elena alone. Elena tries to get hired as a maid and ends apprenticed to her Kingdom's Fairy Godmother, a delightful lady called Madame Bella. The rest of Elena's story involves growing into her role, locking horns with the Tradition, and finding love.
----
* BoringButPractical: Her modus operandi. After a lifetime of mistreatment and uncertain meals, Elena prefers to get the most out of as little effort as possible, even if it's occasionally inconvenient. Her Brownies are especially proud of her for this, as it means she's never run out of magic in a tight spot, something that's common among Godmothers her age, and once doomed a kingdom for three generations when the Godmother failed to stop it.
* CinderellaPlot: The Tradition would have made her a Princess, except that the only Prince in the kingdom was a very young boy. (She does eventually become a princess, technically, but by then she has more important work).
* DeadpanSnarker: Growing up in an abusive household has left her with subtle but bitter wit.
* GoodIsNotSoft: Isabella, the main character of the sixth book in the series, realizes that the good godmother can be ruthless when the situation calls for it. And in her own book Elena had no problem stabbing an Evil Sorceress with a needle with a sleeping spell on it, condemning the other woman to a hundred years sleep.
** To be fair, she then notes that on an Evil Sorceress, the spell would only last for, say, a month. But then Elena's mentor takes over, reinforces the spell, and then puts the Sorceress in a cave with a ring of fire around her and a firmly worded warning to would-be heroes.
** Also, when she is having to deal with a murderous sibling pair that uses the Hansel and Gretel story to go around murdering innocent old women and good witches, she invokes the nastier brand of fairy tales and folklore. The ones where naughty children meet very sticky ends...
* GuileHero: She manages to avert disaster at a christening and arrange for a worthy peasant girl to receive a reward in sixteen years' time. She also manages to guide the Tradition around a baby girl from its Ladderlocks Path to the far more pleasant Tender Princess Path (unknowingly sparing the life of the Kingdom's prince in the process).
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: As someone who was destined to become a princess she has the Traditional appearance. She also has a good heart and patient nature as suits a Fairy Godmother.
* HappilyMarried: [[spoiler: To Alexander.]] They're still going strong as a couple in later books.
* HotWitch: Alexander finds her hot even when he detests her for turning him into a donkey.
* MuggleInMageCustody: She punishes Alexander for his cruelty by transforming him into a donkey and taking him into her custody, where he is constantly made fun of and has to do a lot of work. [[spoiler: Eventually he makes a HeelFaceTurn, after which she warms up to him, and eventually they become a couple.]]
* RecurringCharacter: The first book is her story, but she makes appearances in later books, or is at least mentioned.
* SweetPollyOliver: [[spoiler: When the Katschei invades the neighboring kingdom, Elena has to disguise herself as Alexander's squire and rescue Princess Kylia; if not for this intervention, Kylia would fall victim to a RescueRomance that would derail her marriage to Prince Julian.]]
* SympatheticSlaveOwner: She punishes Alexander for his cruelty by transforming him into a donkey and basically making him her slave. However, her intention is to help him change for the better, and [[HeelFaceTurn once he does]], he becomes a full member of the household ''and'' her LoveInterest.

!!Madame Bella
Madame Bella is Elena's mentor and a former Godmother. She is a kind, shrewd woman that does her best to prepare Elena for her role.
----
* CoolOldLady: She combines the skill and poise of an old pro with an absolutely eye-blinding fashion sense. Her Brownie servants call it "delightfully eccentric" (though cautioning Elena that it wouldn't work as well on a young woman like herself).
* GracefulLadiesLikePurple: She wears purple in formal situations, and her alias is the Lilac Fairy.
* GrandeDame: The very benevolent if manipulative type.
* MamaBear: There will be no Fair Rosalindas or Ladderlocks in any of her kingdoms. She's very pleased when Elena is similarly angered.
* MarriedToTheJob: She laughingly says to Elena that she never cared for a suitor before she became a Godmother and once she became one, the job was enough for her. Which then ends up worrying Elena for a good portion of her book.
* PassingTheTorch: Bella specifically seeks out and mentors Elena to take over the duties of a Godmother, as she wants to retire.
* SilkHidingSteel: Very graceful and ladylike, but she has kept the Tradition in step for many, many years. Elena notes she's rather like the general of Otraria - old, easily taken for granted but still sharp and incredibly mindful of duty.

!!Prince Alexander of Kolhstania

Alexander is the second son of King Henrik of Kohlstania and future Commander of the Army. He is also a PrinceCharmless. When sent by his father to quest for the hand of Princess Kylia of Fleurberg, he not only fails the first test he's set to - one of kindness - he fails it so drastically that Elena turns him into a donkey.
----
* AwesomeButImpractical: He eventually realizes the clothing he insisted on wearing during his service to Elena was this. Despite its resemblance to proper military wear, it was far too ornamented, tight, and hot for anything truly strenuous. Later, Hob comments that Alexander probably can't fit into "that candy-soldier tunic" anymore after months of hard labor.
* AllMenArePerverts: As far as he’s concerned, baseborn women exist for the nobility’s leisure, leading to him forcing a kiss on Elena. He eventually grows out of it.
* BigBrotherInstinct: When he thought that the old beggar woman that turned him into a donkey was going to harm his younger brother Julian, he desperately fought the magical bonds restraining him. This is one of the earliest signs that he's redeemable - indeed, one of the few signs early in the story.
* BreakTheHaughty: Done to him in a merciful manner and he is a much better man for it.
* DefiantCaptive: Deconstructed. His attempts to insult Elena do nothing and are occasionally mocked, he can't hurt her due to her magic protections, and post EpiphanyTherapy, he realizes his insistence on wearing his own clothing rather than what's provided was horribly impractical and uselessly stubborn.
* EpiphanyTherapy: He's given a dose of this from a wandering Fae.
* CharacterDevelopment: Invoked by Elena. In-universe, all Godmothers try to ensure that failed questers are placed in a situation where this is likely to happen.
* HappilyMarried: After character development, he makes a suitable husband for [[spoiler:Elena]]
* KarmicTransformation: Gets turned into a donkey for his rudeness toward the old beggar woman AtTheCrossroads.
* KnightInShiningArmor: Starts the story as an {{aversion}}; he's about the furthest thing possible from chivalrous that he can be, and his notions of honor are skewed at best. After he undergoes his CharacterDevelopment, he is made [[spoiler:a Godmother's Champion.]]
* TheMindIsAPlaythingOfTheBody: Elena has to give him a day as a man after a week as a beast to prevent him from losing his human mind and sense of self.
* MoralMyopia: As far as pre-CharacterDevelopment Alexander is concerned, the only people that matter are the nobility and the peasants are there to be used and abused as they wish.
* MuggleInMageCustody: Elena punishes him for his cruelty by transforming him into a donkey and taking him into her custody, where he is constantly made fun of and has to do a lot of work. [[spoiler: Eventually he makes a HeelFaceTurn, after which she warms up to him, and eventually they become a couple.]]
* PrinceCharmless: At first. Doesn’t get more charmless than trying to run down an old woman.
* ShelteredAristocrat: When Elena actually puts him to work, he’s shocked by how hard commoners have it. He even realizes that he never noticed the treatment of donkeys until he himself became one.
* WouldHitAGirl: He tries to run the old beggar woman at the crossroads down after becoming suspicious of her. Also after Elena turns him back into a man to avoid TheMindIsAPlaythingOfTheBody, he tries to attack her physically, only to be thwarted by unicorns.
* WrongGenreSavvy: Hoo boy. He gets better after some time living with Elena, but at first, he's completely blindsided.

!!Prince Octavian of Kolhstania

Octavian is the eldest son of the King of Kolhstania and heir to the throne. He fails the test of kindness and is sent to get his redemption under the Sorceress Arachnia.
----
* JerkJock: Suggested to be the most physically active of the brothers, and the one most likely to bully Julian.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: The main reason he was awful to his brother Julian was because he was attempting to turn him into a 'real' man that their father would approve of.

!!Prince Julian Of Kohlstania/[[spoiler: King Julian of Fleurberg]]
Julian is the youngest of the three brothers and the one that is more likely to succeed in a quest. Even though his father despises him, Julian does not hate him for it.
----
* EngagementChallenge: Meets and overcomes one to win Princess Kylia, though notably the last challenge is of skill and wit rather than strength.
* MistakenForGay: [[spoiler: By his older brother Octavian]], who is terrified that their father will find out.
* TheUnfavorite: King Henrik sent him on his quest hoping that Julian would get himself killed.
* YoungestChildWins: Third, youngest, and kind-hearted to a fault. He passes the test AtTheCrossroads and wins helpful advice -- including a warning that it's possible to be ''too'' generous.

!!Madame Arachnia
Madame Arachnia was a young child abused by her wicked stepmother and sent to gather berries in the winter. In the forest she was snatched by an evil witch and kept prisoner. After getting fed up with the mistreatment, she shoved the witch out of the window and claimed the witch's castle, becoming an Evil Sorceress herself. Madame Bella arranges for her to meet a potential LoveInterest, initiating her turn to DarkIsNotEvil territory.
----
* DarkIsNotEvil: She keeps the facade, but assists the good side by testing Failed Questers and Arrogant Bullies.
* DesignatedVillain: Invoked in-universe -- she serves as the Evil Sorceress a tale requires, but without any evil intentions.
* HotWitch: Elena notes that she is a good-looking woman.
* NotEvilJustMisunderstood: Elena and Bella describe her as being more lonely and resentful than truly evil. Bella and the other Godmothers use that to facilitate her changeover to DarkIsNotEvil.
* PerkyGoth: Is essentially a fantasy equivalent. Madame Bella notes that even before she met her Poet Prince, she wasn't nearly as evil as she claimed (she grows as many roses in her garden as henbane and nightshade and regularly feeds bats and owls so much that some are nearly too fat to fly), and she and Elena become rather good friends.
* ThePiratesWhoDontDoAnything: Deliberately invoked. Madame Bella knew she could be turned to good because she (Bella) could tell Arachnia liked the ''aesthetics'' of Traditional villainy far more than the evil acts part. After Arachnia realizes too, she does this on purpose, holding down the Evil Sorceress slot so that heroes can get some character development without danger of actually being horribly murdered by a ''real'' villain.
* RavenHairIvorySkin: Pale with glossy black hair: she has the aesthetics of an evil witch and enjoys playing the part, but she's not actually evil.

!!Madame Klovis
Elena's WickedStepmother, who used a love potion on her father in order to appropriate his wealth. She has two daughters, whom she spoils. In the end of the first book she gets her punishment in being forced to work as a cook and a servant in an inn in order to pay for her debts.
----
* BreakTheHaughty: [[spoiler: While she has been stripped of everything of value she owns and forced to be a servant, she shows no signs of changing.]]
* TheDreaded: No one in the Mop Fair of Otraria dares to hire Elena as a maid lest they arouse her wrath.
* GoldDigger: Did not care about either of her husbands, just saw them as a meal ticket.
* LovePotion: Used one on Elena's father. Likely her first husband too.
%%* WickedStepmother: Goes without saying.

!! Daphne and Delphinium
Elena's Horrid Stepsisters.
----
* AlliterativeFamily: Sisters whose names start with D and have "ph" in them.
* AlphaBitch: Delphinum gives this vibe, but she certainly lacks a girl posse even if she has the attitude down pat.
* BigEater: Daphne will eat anything that anyone else is ignoring.
* BreakTheHaughty: After a few months of backbreaking, thankless labour Daphne starts to regret how she treated Elena and becomes a nicer person. Her sister, not so much.
* GoldDigger: Both of them are their mother's daughters all right.
* FatBitch: One of the reasons that Daphne is so much larger than her mother and sister is that she eats anything nice so Elena will not get it. [[Franchise/HarryPotter Much like the cousin of a certain wizard.]]
* LeanAndMean: Delphinum, who is skinny enough to be anorexic, suffers from a distinct lack of curves.
* OfCorsetHurts: Daphne can barely fit in hers due to her weight.
* TookALevelInKindness: Daphne, at the end of ''The Fairy Godmother'', as detailed above, after several months of thankless labour she's not just losing lots of weight but becoming a better person for it. It's implied that if she keeps going with her CharacterDevelopment, the Two Old Ladies of the village will give Elena a call to make sure she gets a suitably [[KarmicJackpot magic karmic reward]]; ie finding some gold in the course of her duties, enough to buy her way out of indentured servitude and maybe even enable her to marry.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:First appearing in ''One Good Knight'']]

!! Princess Andromeda of Acadia

Princess Andromeda is the only child of Queen Cassiopeia and heir to the throne of Acadia. She has lived a very sheltered and lonely life, but she is very intelligent, resourceful, and has a talent for research and a love of books. Her life changes when her intelligence comes to the attention of her mother and her mother's advisor, Solon. While Andromeda tries to get used to her new life, tragedy descends upon Acadia, in the form of a rampaging Dragon.
----
* ACupAngst: She did not inherit her mother's looks, especially in this department.
* BlindWithoutEm: Wears "oculars" which are basically glasses. Initially, they're straight up NerdGlasses. Later, her mother's jeweler makes her some new one that are more flattering. They are also very intentionally designed to avoid DroppedGlasses.
* ChainedToARock: Gets chained to a stake and left as a VirginSacrifice for the dragon.
* DistractedByTheShiny: She almost melts into a puddle when she encounters unicorns, much to the derision of Sir George.
* InterspeciesRomance: [[spoiler: Andie falls in love with the Bookwyrm Dragon Periapt and marries him after the latter is turned into a human.]]
* LotteryOfDoom: Her name gets drawn to be sacrificed to the Dragon. [[spoiler: It was rigged by her mother and Solon to eliminate her.]]
* MundaneUtility: She finds one for Unicorns by having them purify the toxins in mushrooms and make them safe to eat.
* NerdGlasses: Her "oculars". Fortunately, they're bespelled so they don't fall off, even in hectic moments.
* OriginalPositionFallacy: She is the one who brings up the Traditional virgin sacrifice as the means to mollify the dragon. While she feels horrible about the suggestion -- and the consequences -- she never seems to remember that ''she'' is a virgin until her name is drawn.
* SheKnowsTooMuch: Her "random" selection in the lottery for virgin sacrifices is due to her investigations finding evidence that the queen is both tampering with the weather to increase the number of shipwrecks and manipulating local inheritance cases to bring the estates under her personal control
* VirginSacrifice: She is one of many girls staked out as the Traditional offering to a rampaging dragon. Fortunately, Sir George arrives in time to save her.

!!Sir George/Georgina
Sir George is the knight sent by the Chapter House of Glass Mountain to slay the Dragon. He is very vehement that Andie will not fall in love with him.
----
* InterspeciesRomance: [[spoiler: With Adamant the Dragon. She]] marries him after becoming a dragon.
%%* KnightInShiningArmor: As befitting for a Champion.
* LiteralMetaphor: He's a virgin knight (i.e. a knight on his first quest). This happens to be true in the more typical sense too.
* SweetPollyOliver: George is actually Georgina, who's disguised as a man to evade a "no man shall enter" spell.
* TrainingThePeacefulVillagers: Invokes this with the Ragged Company.

!!Queen Cassiopeia
Andromeda's beautiful and ruthless mother, who often expresses her disappointment that her daughter is not a copy of her.
----
* AmbitionIsEvil: She's been a power-hungry noblewoman most of her life, managing to make herself the sole ruling queen of the kingdom despite not being part of the royal family, and she's currently working to disband the Corcord so she can be the only power in Arcadia.
* BeautyIsBad: A very beautiful and horrible woman.
* BigBad: She's the main antagonist of ''One Good Knight'', as the ambitious evil queen who wants to preserve her power by any means necessary.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: She is very conscious of appearances, is careful to cultivate an image of a benevolent and wise TheHighQueen, and is particularly careful in hiding her illicit affairs. This even works on Andromedra, who isn't truly sure her mother is an EvilMatriarch until the very end.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: Her large breasts are mentioned as being part of her famous sex appeal.
* EvilMatriarch: She's an antagonist figure towards her own daughter, plotting to get rid of her once she becomes a thorn in her plans.
* HeadTurningBeauty: She''s described as a striking beautiful woman, who manages to look impossibly graceful even without trying, often causing people to visibly react to her beauty. Even her traitorous lover who secretly detests her can't help but be physically attracted to her.
* GodSaveUsFromTheQueen: PlayedWith. While she is certainly ruthless, selfish, and very vain she is a competent ruler and keeps the image of TheHighQueen. By law she is entitled to the salvage from shipwrecks -- which her sorcerer causes at routine intervals by creating storms. She even uses the shipping manifests to pick the best ships to destroy.
* LadykillerInLove: PlayedWith. While for most of her life, she was a seductress who never fell in love, people note she seems abnormally attracted to Solon. This is later explained as him using SexMagic to enhance her lust for him, so he can better manipulate her.
* ManipulativeBitch: She's a skilled manipulator who often has people doing her bidding while thinking they acted on their own. Even Solon himself muses she sometimes manages to manipulate him, despite him knowing firsthand how manipulative he is.
* OffingTheOffspring: Sets her daughter up as the VirginSacrifice to the dragon via rigged LotteryOfDoom.
* TheParanoiac: She's a controlling and paranoid woman who constantly expects others to be plotting against her. She constantly cycles through servants and even tends to hire mute ones to prevent any of them from turning into an agent against her. A lot of her antagonism towards her daughter is her belief that Andromeda will one day attempt to overthrow her.
* ParentalNeglect: She started to become a neglectful mother to Andromeda once she noticed the girl wouldn't be her copy, and she mostly left the task of raising her to maids and governesses.
* ProudBeauty: She's a vain woman who's very proud of her good looks, and spends many hours of her days taking care of her appearance.
* TheVamp: She's a highly attractive woman who has used her feminine wiles to her advantage for many years, all without compromising her image. It contrasts with the virgin, pure heroines that oppose her.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: She has long been planning to get rid of Solon, correctly guessing that he's become too powerful and is likely planning to betray and usurp her position. Unfortunately for her, he ends up doing this to her before she can do it to him.
* WickedCultured: She's ruthless and vain, but also a highly intelligent and cultured queen who values the fine things in life, and is very politically savvy.
* TheWomanBehindTheMan: She was picked to marry the crown prince of Arcadia due to her being a PoliticallyActivePrincess who would actually do much of the ruling in his stead, given he wasn't interested. She did this for a few years, so when he died, nobody objected to her competency when she became the ruler of the kingdom, despite her being a queen consort.

!! Solon, Royal Advisor
Solon is one of Queen Cassiopeia's most trusted advisors and her lover. He is the one Andromeda approaches in order to reveal her talent for research and data compilation.
----
* TheDragon: He's Cassiopeia's right-hand man and primary advisor when it comes to her shady dealings.
* DragonWithAnAgenda: While he pretends to be a loyal servant, he actually detests Cassiopeia and is planning to marry and kill her so he can take the throne.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: [[spoiler: He might have been the one to summon the dragon and send those storms on unsuspecting ships, but he is disgusted at how eager Cassiopeia is to kill her own daughter.]]
* EvilVizier: Subverted in that the Queen is as evil as he is and they are in cahoots. [[spoiler: Until they come to outlive their usefulness to each other.]]
* EvilSorcerer: He's a evil magician who uses his knowledge of magic to fulfill Cassiopeia, and his own, evil ambitions.
* GoldDigger: He's only Cassiopeia's lover because he wants to live a comfortable life and has plans to betray her when she makes him her king.
* LivingAphrodisiac: He uses a type of voodoo SexMagic to keep Cassiopeia lusting only after him (and it only works on her), which is how he manages to avoid her usual suspicious mind.
* PrettyBoy: He's considered to be a very handsome man and is described as having delicate and effeminate features.
%%* ProperlyParanoid
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: After his plan is exposed, he doesn't hesitate to kill Cassiopeia on the spot by [[SlashedThroat slashing her throat]].

[[/folder]]

[[folder: First Appearing in ''Fortune's Fool'']]

!!Prince Aleksandr Pieterovich "Sasha"
Sasha is the youngest of the seven sons of King Pietr of Led Belarus. He has the magical abilities of a Seventh Son, Fortunate Fool and Songweaver. He is in charge of keeping the tradition in check in his country.
----
* TheFool: A "Fortunate Fool," meaning he has blind luck. He isn't ''actually'' dumb, but his father coaches him into playing the part so he and the Kingdom can reap the benefits.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Has tasted Dragon's Blood, and he is nice to everyone he meets, friends and foes alike.
* GuileHero: Like everyone charged with managing the Tradition
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: As with Traditional princes, is blond and pure-hearted.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: His Songweaver abilities have kept his kingdom safe for years.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Acts the Fool in public, in private he is anything but.
* TheUnfavorite: His family mistreats him in public, but love him in private, to better sell his role as the Fool. This fortunately hasn't warped his personality, though he suffers a moment or two of DudeWheresMyRespect at times.
* WeakButSkilled: As a Seventh Son, Fortunate Fool, ''and'' a Songweaver, he doesn't have huge, earthshaking magics, but rather small, simple tricks that have kept evil out of his home kingdom.
* ZanyScheme: Always pranks everyone to keep up the facade.

!!Princess Ekaterina "Katya"
The seventh daughter of the Sea King. Katya is well versed in the Tradition and acts as her father's spy in the Drylands.
----
* BadassAdorable: Tiny, but deadly.
* MakingASplash: As befitting a daughter of the Sea King.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: Has fairly decent magical abilities and is tiny.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:First appearing in ''The Snow Queen'']]
!!Godmother Aleksia
Once a Princess who had not one, but ''two'' Traditional Paths dogging her heels, she's now a Godmother, known as the Ice Fairy or the Snow Queen.
----
* AnIcePerson: As one might expect from her sobriquets, Aleksia is very well-versed in the use of snow and ice magic.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: This trope is, word-for-word, the way Aleksia thinks of her primary job--forcing some CharacterDevelopment upon the wishers in the process.
* ToughLeaderFacade: Aleksia's job requires her to project an image of being aloof, distant, and untouchable, but she's becoming rather lonely.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:First appearing in ''The Sleeping Beauty'']]

!!Godmother Lily/Queen Sable
----
* [[GuileHero Guile Heroine]]: Like any successful Fairy Godmother, she has to manipulate the Tradition to force a happy ending (or a happier one) for her people - even going so far as to masquerade as the WickedStepmother herself to prevent a real Evil Sorceress from stepping into the role when the Queen dies.
* LoveRevelationEpiphany: Only when [[spoiler: Jimson accidentally calls her "my love" does she realize her feelings for him.]]
* HalfHumanHybrid: Her father was [[FairFolk Fae]], making her one of the few Fairy Godmothers that has some claim to "fairy" part of title. This is frightening, as in spin-off we learn that such children [[spoiler: have [[PhysicalGod godlike power]]. Example we're given? [[Myth/ClassicalMythology Olympians]]!]]
* OlderThanTheyLook: She's over 300 years old, the only Godmother her kingdom has ever had, but still looks like a young woman.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Her alter ego, "Queen Sable" is designed to invoke this. Discussed by Leopold and Siegfried when they figure out the Godmother and the Queen are one and the same.
* {{Tsundere}}: Type B. She's a genuinely caring person and a kind and effective Godmother, but she has a strong temper when things are going badly.
* WickedStepmother: Subverted. She only adopts the role of "Queen Sable" to keep a real Evil Stepmother from stepping in.

!!Princess Rosamund "Rosa" of Eltaria

* PoliticallyActivePrincess: She keeps her suitors in line, albeit with Lily's help.
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: After Lily provides her with a dose of fresh Dragon blood.

!!Prince Siegfried von Drachenthal

* GeniusBruiser: Looks and fights like a standard muscle-for-brains BarbarianHero, is frequently underestimated as a result, and knows it.
* StraightManAndWiseGuy: The Straight Man to Leopold's Wise Guy.

!!Prince Leopold of Falkenreid

* ImmortalitySeeker: [[spoiler: The cause of the events of "A Tangled Web," where he and Brunnhilde are looking for Immortality and Eternal Youth in the equivalent of Greece so they won't have to go through with him aging and dying.]]
* LovableRogue: So well-loved, in fact, he was kicked out by his father for his popularity. He has no ambition whatsoever for the throne and is a bit of a layabout, but the general populace adored him so much that the king was afraid the heir wouldn't get any recognition for his hard work and talents as long as Leopold was around.
* OnlySaneMan: In his own story, he has to wrangle a bunch of mercurial Greek god counterparts to work together to protect a country that has incoming winter when they've never known anything but spring, summer and early fall.
* StraightManAndWiseGuy: The Wise Guy to Siggy's Straight Man.
* {{Troll}}: [[spoiler: He and Brunhild plan to visit his family and make his father and older brother believe that they intend to steal the throne.]]

!!Prince Desmond

* PrinceCharming: He initially comes off as this. [[spoiler: Ultimately subverted as it turns out to be an act and he's really the EvilSorcerer who first set the Huntsman after Rosa.]]

!!Jimson

* MagicMirror: A Mirror Slave, bound to the glass. This gives him amazing powers, but denies him any human happiness.

!!Brunnhilde
%%* AmazonianBeauty: [[spoiler: Leopold certainly thinks so.]]
* CallingTheOldManOut: Gives her father (and the Ring Cycle in general) a truly epic one at the end of the book.
* HappilyMarried: [[spoiler: To Leopold by the end of the book. In the novella "A Tangled Web," the couple faces numerous challenges but are reunited stronger than ever and more secure in their relationship.]]
* ImmortalitySeeker: [[spoiler: Not for herself, since she is essentially a goddess, but for Leopold, so that she doesn't have to watch him age and die.]]
%%* LadyOfWar: Comes with being a Valkyrie.
