-->'''Sonic''': Change reality any way you like, Robotnik! Whatever you do I'll still fight you! And somehow, I'll win! Because no matter how ridiculous the situation, I'll never give up, Robotnik! '''[[BadassBoast I'll never give up!]]'''

Sonic the Hedgehog is the leader of the Freedom Fighters based out of the Emerald Hill Zone and is commonly regarded as the hero of Mobius. Born with the power to run at unnatural speeds Sonic was involved in an experiment which allowed him to break the sound barrier, resulting in a sonic boom that turned him blue. Working with Doctor Kintobor to rid the planet of all evil, Sonic witnessed the good Doctor's transformation into his long-time nemesis Doctor Ivo Robotnik. He is probably most famous on Mobius for opposing Robotnik on countless occasions, and later deposing of the tyrant during the final victory in the Metropolis Zone. For undercover work, he has often disguised himself under the alias of Bob Beaky to avoid revealing his true identity. Due to extreme exposure to high levels of Chaos energy Sonic has developed a transformation into an alter-ego known as Super Sonic. This malevolent demonic being is unleashed in times of great stress or if he is overexposed to additional Chaos energy.

------
* AdaptationalJerkass: He's a heroic, laidback character in the games, and at the time the comic was written in western canon as being a TotallyRadical MascotWithAttitude; here, he's a callous egomaniac. Despite caring for his friends, he really has a hard time showing it and usually uses TrashTalk, especially [[BigBrotherBully to Tails]].
* AlternateIdentityAmnesia: Though he knows of [[SuperpoweredEvilSide Super Sonic's]] existence, he has no recollection of his actions whenever Super is active.
* AntiHero: Type I or II; he's the hero of Mobius and takes its protection seriously, but is a cocky, immature {{Jerkass}}.
* BadassBoast: His boast to Robotnik after the later becomes a RealityWarper (as seen above) says it all.
* BigBrotherBully: To Tails.
* BigEater: As shown in issue 5. After his morning workout, he sits down to a breakfast of over 200 hamburgers, and at the end, eats 300 hot dogs and 100 thick shakes, informing Tails that the hamburgers were just the first course.
* BlackComedy: In one issue, he deliberately let Tails think he was dead [[ItAmusedMe for a laugh]] (possibly issue 6, after Tails thinks Sonic perished on the exploding Death Egg, but had hitched a ride off on Tails' escape pod after steering the former away from crash landing on the Emerald Hill Zone); several characters have even mentioned his "strange sense of humor."
* BloodKnight: He gets bored and restless when there's no new challenge or threat, and will often deliberately go seeking one out.
* BlowYouAway: By running at full speed around an enemy, he can form a Sonic Cyclone that rips the enemy to shreds through its slipstream. A variation of this technique is a "cocoon of speed", which he uses to contain bombs and missiles and protect outside forces from the blast radius.
* CoolShades: He sports them in the second comic, for no apparent reason other than to look cool. He also constantly sports a pair when he disguises himself as Bob Beaky.
* CreateYourOwnVillain: In the Brotherhood of Metallix story arc loosely based on ''VideoGame/SonicCD'' had Sonic going back in time and deliberately causing the accident that turned kindly Dr. Ovi Kintobor into Dr. Ivo Robotnik. In the altered timeline where the accident never occurred, the Brotherhood of Metallix were solely the work of [[TheIgor Grimer]] and conquered Mobius and couldn't be stopped- in the real timeline, Robotnik worked on the Metallixes, too, and thought to give them a mass-self-destruct function.
* {{Determinator}}: No matter what happens, he ''won't'' give up. In fact, he [[SheatheYourSword weaponises this fact]] against a special Badnik that Robotnik developed with the ability to predict its targets' every move. When Sonic announces that he couldn't defeat this Badnik and that he intended to surrender, it undergoes a LogicBomb, as Robotnik had designed it under the knowledge that Sonic would never give up.
* DramaPreservingHandicap: Since a lot of Badniks use organic batteries, Sonic often has to hold back against them to avoid harming the captive animals inside.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: Sonic had the "mohawk" seen in early western ''Sonic'' art for a few early issues.
* EmotionallyTongueTied: In issue #76, when Porker Lewis quits the Freedom Fighters, Sonic is angry at him; [[WordOfGod Nigel Kitching]] explains in a forum post that this was "because he didn't want Porker to go - not because he despised him for his cowardice but because he was just so desperate for Porker to stay. It's just Sonic's inability to express his feelings get him so screwed up."
* EnergyAbsorption: He is able to absorb Chaos Energy, the first time he did so caused the creation of Super Sonic.
* ExperiencedProtagonist: By the time of the first issue, he's already an established hero who has thwarted Robotnik [[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog1 not once]], [[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2 but twice]].
* EveryoneHasStandards: He's a {{Jerkass}} for sure, but he's still a hero and there are lines he ''won't'' cross. Case in point: during the Shanazar arc, when he discovered the AwfulTruth that the children used as vessels for the [[OurGeniesAreDifferent Mystic Genies]] would [[CastFromLifespan die after five years]] due to the strain of the power, Sonic was absolutely disgusted and smashed the Mystic Globe that made the rituals for it possible.
** Even he finds The Chaotix Treatment of Charmy cruel and tries to be slightly nicer to him, even if he often grates him on his nerves.
* FriendToAllChildren: While there's exceptions, Sonic is much nicer to kids than he is with everyone else, rarely being his usual Jerkass self and being much softer with them.
** And while he's still mean to him, Sonic treats Charmy much better than the Chaotix do. Going to rescue him despite how much he annoys him, feeling bad for how he's treated by the Chaotix and even convincing Charmy's mom to let him stay with the Chaotix (albeit telling Charmy to never say anything to them about it because they'll kill him).
**He cheers a kid up in the special zone who wanted to be a hero and nearly got hurt in the process. He reassured him that there was other ways he could help without risking his life and brought him with him to hand presents to the local hospitals.
** One time a group of children tried to set up Sonic to fight against a badnik so they could meet him, instead of being angry about it he played along and even build a playground of snow with his speed for them.
** When a kid begged him to spare a Badnik as he was his friend, Sonic let the Badnik go.
* ForceField: By vibrating his molecules at super-speed, Sonic can create a forcefield.
* FullBodyDisguise: Sonic's Bob Beaky disguise (a green ushanka and duffel coat, yellow-checked scarf, grey boots and mittens, wraparound shades, and false beak) which completely conceals Sonic's body, allowing him to travel incognito or infiltrate a public area.
* GodzillaThreshold: When he first fought the second Metallix, and later when he fought Commander Brutus, Sonic was so outmatched that he was forced to unleash [[SuperMode Super Sonic]] to defeat them. Keep in mind that in ''STC'', Super Sonic is a SuperpoweredEvilSide who's completely AxCrazy and a danger to friend and foe alike, and Sonic has no control over him.
* GoodIsNotNice: He'll risk life and limb to save an innocent and stop injustice, but he's nonetheless abrasive and has little patience for most people.
* GeniusBruiser: He can smash robots with his bare hands, and while he prefers the LeeroyJenkins approach, he ''is'' smarter than he lets on; when his usual AttackAttackAttack style doesn't work, Sonic gets more tactical and use his powers more creatively. The most noticeable example of his intelligence is in the 100th issue: when Super Sonic supercharged the Black Asteroid he was trapped in, turning it into a massive electron bomb that would knock out every computer system on the planet, Sonic had the idea to have the Omni-Viewer teleport it to Mobius, since nearly every computer system there belongs to Dr. Robotnik. The resulting EMP disables all of Robotnik's technology, allowing Sonic and co. to finally overthrow him.
** He defeats an omnipotent RealityWarper Robotnik in ''Showdown'' by manipulating his ego and asking for one ally, which wouldn't make a difference in his chances against the godlike Robotnik. Except he chose ''Knuckles.''
* HeroicBSOD:
** He had/came close to having one of these a couple of times. Mostly when something seriously bad happened to his friends. Finding out [[spoiler:Robotnik had changed history so that he wasn't there to stop Tails dying, or the time he thought he (as Super Sonic) had vaporised Tails and Amy.]]
** After [[spoiler:Johnny's death]], Sonic breaks completely. The issue after the death has a particularly cruel bait and switch where it looks like the character has survived but it turns out Sonic is hallucinating in his grief.
* HeroicResolve:
** So long as something existed to menace Mobius, Sonic would ''never'' give up. Best exemplified by the speech he gives to Robotnik when the latter has absorbed the power of the Chaos emeralds to attain [[RealityWarper reality warping powers]], while they're fighting through a series of increasingly bizarre scenarios. And essentially tricks Robotnik into setting up his own defeat and depowering.
** In one story, Sonic fights a robot that can predict his every move and counteract it. So Sonic gives up. Since the robot was programmed to believe that this circumstance would never happen, it malfunctions and blows up, which is exactly what Sonic intended.
* TheHero: The hero of Mobius.
* HulkingOut: Whenever Sonic became stressed or extremely angry he transforms into Super Sonic.
* HiddenDepths:
** Sonic often quietly admits to himself that he may be in over his head when nobody else is around to hear it.
** He's also shown to care deeply about his friends, but he isn't comfortable admitting it in public.
** He's a surprisingly good artist with his speed given he managed to create a statue of himself on top of a volcano as Super Sonic and latter built an entire playground of snow in the shape of his head for kids to play with.
* InsufferableGenius: Boasts about his skills but he is as skilled as he says.
* ItsAllMyFault: During the comic's final arc, he blames himself when Johnny Lightfoot is killed by Chaos, to the extent that it sends him into a HeroicBSOD and TenMinuteRetirement.
* JerkassToOne: DependingOnTheWriter. He's sometimes portrayed as a very immature and callous {{Jerkass}} to others, including his own friends, but he treats [[KidSidekick Tails]] more awfully than he does with the others, as he would always insult him, belittle him, and make cruel jokes at his expense.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's considerably more dickish than most of his other incarnations, constantly makes cruel jokes at Tails' expense. That being said, Sonic ''does'' care deeply about his friends but is terrible at expressing his feelings, manifesting them as dickishness, with WordOfGod confirming his anger at Porker's quitting the Freedom Fighters as actually being because he desperately wanted him to stay.
* KryptoniteFactor: Mega Mack, the pink chemical in the Chemical Plant Zone. While hazardous to all organic life, and deadly enough to leave Zones uninhabitable for a hundred years, Mega Mack is especially deadly to Sonic; even just standing in it for a few minutes can fatally poison him.
* TheLeader: Of the Freedom Fighters. He is a mix of [[{{Determinator}} Type III]] and Type IV.
* LeeroyJenkins: Sonic's natural tendency is to just rush straight into battle without thinking, and rely on sheer force to plow through anything in his way. This often causes him to be overpowered by stronger enemies, or overwhelmed by sheer numbers. Best seen in this quote where Sonic leaps out of a plane to take on hundreds of robots:
-->'''Tails''': But Sonic, shouldn't we have some kind of plan?\
'''Sonic''': I have a plan. [''leaps out of plane''] '''[[SuicidalOverconfidence I plan to win!]]'''
* LockedIntoStrangeness: He turned blue due to an accident.
* LoopholeAbuse: In issue 92 Charmy has to stay behind in the Hive because of his mother's wishes. But since Sonic had just saved the Hive from a Wasp invasion, he is granted one wish. Sonic uses it to allow Charmy to stay with the Chaotix.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: He has this expression on his face at the end of part 2 of the story Running Wild, when he thinks [[SuperPoweredEvilSide Super Sonic]] has killed the Freedom Fighters.
* NoSocialSkills: According to [[WordOfGod Nigel Kitching]], Sonic has an inability to properly express his feelings (see: Porker Lewis calling it quits). Back when he was all brown and prickly, he was apparently withdrawn enough to rely on a human for social comfort, and aside from that only seemed to care about running.
* OnlySaneMan: Sonic, whenever he's in the Special Zone and how he feels while in Shanazar.
* PowerDyesYourHair: He turns yellow when he goes Super Sonic.
* RealMenHateAffection: WordOfGod is that Sonic has trouble expressing his feelings; when Porker Lewis quit the Freedom Fighters, Sonic's anger at Porker leaving was in fact because he desperately wanted him to stay, but he simply [[CannotSpitItOut couldn't spit it out]].
* RedOni: To Amy's blue.
* SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan: He is the can which Super Sonic is sealed in but whenever Sonic became stressed or extremely angry he transforms into Super Sonic.
* SecretKeeper: Becomes one to Charmy Bee when he agrees to keep their adventure in the Hive a secret. Though as he puts it, he did it not out of altruism but rather because the Chaotix would kill him if they found out.
* SmugSuper: He ''loves'' boasting about how cool and strong he is, but has the skills to back it up.
* StrongAndSkilled: He's a master at finding ways to use his SuperSpeed, and while he prefers to just SpeedBlitz his opponents, he will fall back and use his powers more tactically and creatively when that doesn't work (like grabbing hold of them and super-vibrating himself, creating cyclones with his speed, angling his attacks so that his momentum is transferred to the enemy, or timing the attack to strike at the point where the enemy is most vulnerable)
* SuperDrowningSkills: Played straight then subverted. Handwaved by Sonic as him having taken swimming lessons.
* SuperPoweredEvilSide: His super form is this, see Super Sonic's own section.
* SuperSpeed: He regularly breaks the sound barrier when running, and at one point, pushes himself to the limit to stop two missiles that had been launched in opposite directions; as a result, even while just walking, the world is frozen in BulletTime to him.
* SwissArmySuperpower: His only ''real'' superpower is SuperSpeed, but he can do a ''lot'' with it (creating cyclones by running around opponents, vibrating his molecules, etc.)
* TenMinuteRetirement: Briefly leaves the Freedom Fighters upon [[spoiler:the death of Johnny Lightfoot]], but returns with a more focused demeanor.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Rather than his usual chilli dogs, this version of Sonic is a vegetarian whose favorite snacks are Bean Burgers.
* TranquilFury: During the final fight of the Sonic 3 & Knuckles arc (Issue 53), Sonic is fighting Robotnik and is cracking jokes at his expense...Until Robotnik says he's going to take care of the Emerald Hill Folk permanently once he's done with him. After that Sonic replies with "You talk too much!" As he proceeds to put a serious face and silently rip the robot apart and knock it off the island with a punch much to his shock since he didn't meant to do that. Even Robotnik himself says he never saw him like this before.
-->'''Robotnik:'''I...I've never seen him like this before...Never so savage!
* TrappedInAnotherWorld: He is trapped in the Special Zone for about fifteen issues.
** He later becomes trapped in the micro-world of Shanazar.
* TrashTalk: He uses it on his foes.
* {{Tsundere}}: A Platonic Type A. He's often mean to everyone, but when they're danger or hurt he's the first to get worried and drop the actitude only to dial it back when seeing they're ok. This is especially notable with Amy as he immediately tries to downplay any worry or good action he does for her.
* VibroWeapon: The Insta-Shield, created by super-vibrating air molecules around his body.
* VictoryIsBoring: Once he finally succeeds at overthrowing Robotnik in issue 100, he quickly becomes bored to tears with no enemy to fight. He practically jumped at the chance to investigate an issue on the Flickies' island, on Tails' advice.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Tails. While he may seem like a jerk, Sonic doesn't outright bully him.
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: Averted: Sonic's natural tendency is to just plow through his enemies with shear force and speed, but when faced with an enemy who this doesn't work against he tends to get more tactical and use his powers more creatively.
* YouCantFightFate: He was dismayed upon realizing in order to stop Brotherhood of Metallix, he was the one who caused his former-friend Kintobor ''to become'' the evil megalomaniac Robotnik, in a predestination paradox.

!!Miles "Tails" Prower
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fleetway_tails01_3534.png]]

A two-tailed fox from the Nameless Zone, a Zone hidden to the rest of Mobius. Eventually residing in Mobius, Miles was rescued by Sonic from drowning, and thus in debt became he best friend and partner, earning the nickname Tails for his twin-tails, and joining the Freedom Fighters in the war against Dr. Robotnik. However, occasionally, Tails rediscovers the Nameless Zone, and becomes a brave hero in his own right, helping his former homeland against their own menaces.

------
* AccidentalMisnaming: The people of the Chemical Plant Zone refer to him only as "Zonerunner", leading to a RunningGag of Tails trying to tell them his name is Tails.
* AdaptationDyeJob: He has brown eyes instead of blue.
* AdaptationalDumbass: Downplayed. He's still good with tools, but he's not the ChildProdigy of the games; Sonic frequently calls him "pixel brain" because of his more naive characteristics. Justified, since this version of Tails comes from the Nameless Zone, which has technology [[MedievalStasis equal to Medieval Britain]].
* AdaptationPersonalityChange: He's usually a genius ChildProdigy, but here he's a naive CheerfulChild with a cowardly streak.
* BadassLongcoat: Wears one as the Zonerunner.
* ButtMonkey: He's frequently the victim of Sonic's "[[{{Jerkass}} strange sense of humour]]" and the people he rescues tend to complain that [[ComplainingAboutRescuesTheyDontLike they wanted to be saved by Sonic]].
* CaptainObvious:
** From issue #006:
-->'''Tails:''' Wow! The Death Egg!\
'''Sonic:''' Tails, what is it with you and stating the blatantly obvious?
*** And later on in the same strip:
--->'''Tails:''' Sonic! You're alive!\
'''Sonic:''' And ''you're'' still stating the obvious, I see.
** And in issue #115:
-->'''Tails:''' They... they're joining together!\
'''Sonic:''' Tails, you always were an expert at stating the [[GoshDangItToHeck flipping]] obvious!
** In one of the Summer Specials:
-->'''Tails:''' Sonic! He's attacking us!\
'''Sonic:''' Thanks Tails, I had noticed.
* CatchPhrase: "I'm a lot tougher than some people think."
%%* CheerfulChild:
* ConspicuousTrenchcoat: Often wears these to hide his tails.
%%* CowardlyLion
* DependingOnTheArtist: He's normally brown eyed but the cover for issue 200 has him with blue eyes.
* DependingOnTheWriter: Nigel Kitching and Lew Stringer write Tails as a well-meaning but bumbling kid who can still take care of himself when the time comes, while Creator/MarkMillar and Mark Eyles write him as completely oblivious and incompetent, without much intentional agency of his own and constantly wishing that Sonic was there to save him.
* FakeUltimateHero: For a while he pretended to be this in the Nameless Zone arcs, but in the end he was still a hero.
* {{Flight}}: Can fly using his two tails as a helicopter.
* FullNameBasis: The people of the Nameless Zone call him Miles Prower.
* ForgotAboutHisPowers: He has a minor tendency to forget he can fly, needing to be reminded to do so to get out of a situation.
* KnightInShiningArmor: While in the Nameless Zone arc.
* TheLoad: He often spends more time standing around stating the obvious and either getting caught or unintentionally interfering with Sonic's heroics. The extent of which [[DependingOnTheWriter depends on the writer.]]
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Most people call him "Tails", however his own people in the Nameless Zone call him "Miles Prower". The people of the Chemical Plant Zone refer to him only as "Zonerunner", leading to an AccidentalMisnaming RunningGag.
* OpaqueNerdGlasses: Not normally but as in issue 17, he's shown to be a human boy with glasses (and a tail).
* RudeHeroNiceSidekick: Unlike the games continuity where Sonic is laid-back and nice (though cocky), this Sonic is terribly rude, self-centered, and immature while Tails is the nice one who would always be on the receiving end of Sonic's bullying.
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: He's able to understand Flickies.
* TookALevelinBadass: In Tails' earlier stories, he would frequently lament that Sonic wasn't around to help him out of whatever scrape he had gotten into, [[TheFool only to blunder into saving the day anyway.]] Around the time Sonic was stranded in the Special Zone, however, Tails starts to come into his own; handily taking on Badniks he once cowered from, and contributing more to the Freedom Fighters' cause on his own merits.
* TookALevelInDumbass: While he relies on luck in ''The Nameless Zone'' and ''The Land Beyond'', he's more gullible, oblivious and cowardly in ''The Morbidden Hunt''.
* UnwillingRoboticisation: Robotnik turns him into a Badnik in issue 2, but thankfully Sonic frees him. He tries again in 5 in the Labyrinth Zone, but Sonic causes a tidal wave before it can be done.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Sonic.

!!Amy Rose
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/180px-STC103-AmyRose_5666.jpg]]
--> "They don't call me "Aim" for nothing!"
A pink anthropomorphic hedgehog and member of the Freedom Fighters. She swiftly matured as the comic went on and became one of the most valuable members of the Freedom Fighters, especially due to her expert marksmanship with her crossbow (which she created herself) or hand-drawn bow.

------
* ActionGirl: The most competent and dangerous incarnation of Amy Rose.
* AdaptationalBadass: Until certain later incarnations (and even then, probably still) she was by far the most competent and dangerous incarnation of Amy Rose to have been depicted.
* AdaptationDyeJob: She has brown eyes instead of green.
* AdaptationPersonalityChange: She's an ActionGirl who doesn't really resemble either the classic or post-''Adventure'' versions of her character. It's never truly specified if she has a crush on Sonic or if she's teasing him but either way it doesn't come up much. Early on she was closer to her game personality but ExecutiveMeddling caused her personality change.
* AscendedFangirl: She's a fangirl of Sonic with a crush on him but ended up joining the Freedom Fighters for her own safety.
* AutomaticCrossbows: Her weapon of choice that she built herself, in lieu of her games counterpart's iconic Piko Piko Hammer.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: She wasn't as much of an ActionGirl nor Sonic's foil in early issues, but ExecutiveMeddling caused her personality to alter. The original personality popped up again in the ''Adventure'' arc though. This also makes for an amusing inversion between media, since her earlier more comical persona is strikingly similar to how the games would later develop Amy.
%%* CombatPragmatist:
* EarlyAdaptationWeirdness: This version of Amy uses a crossbow instead of a hammer, which she wouldn't use in the games until [[VideoGame/SonicTheFighters later]].
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: Averted. Her quills are downward at the start of the Adventure arc without any explanation for the decision, but nothing has changed unlike her game or [[ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehogArchieComics Archie]] counterparts. It made her look more mature which [[DarkerAndEdgier could have foreshadowed the arc to come]].
* {{Foil}}: To Sonic.
* FriendlySniper: A crack shot, whether with bow and arrows or crossbow and bolts, and certainly one of the more personable members of the Freedom Fighters.
* GirlinessUpgrade: WordOfGod implies that, while Amy was always intended to be boosted as a Freedom Fighter, her more level-headed nature was enforced by an editor, who wanted Amy to be a good female role model. This development [[CreatorBacklash was resented by writer Nigel Kitching]] who believed it made the character one-dimensional compared to her [[FlawlessToken much more flawed male comrades]].
* GoodOldFisticuffs: When she can't use her crossbow she will fight with her fists.
* GuysSmashGirlsShoot: While the male heroic characters (the Freedom Fighters and the Chaotix Crew) primarily fight hand-to-hand, Amy Rose is the only one whose weapon of choice is a long-range projectile weapon.
* HumanShield: Used as one by Brutus but didn't work because Sonic had transformed into Super Sonic.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: In issue #44, Badniks Bridge Part 2, Amy fires an arrow from a moving plane at a tiny little button that destroys an entire bridge.
%%* TheLancer
* TheLeader: She is a [[WomenAreWiser Type II]] leader when she leads the Freedom Fighters.
* LockedIntoStrangeness: According to one comic, however it's most likely non-canon due to the continuity errors it causes.
* LongRangeFighter: fights with a crossbow and a bow.
* NeutralFemale: An amusing ''Babes In Toyland''-esque one in the ''CD'' adaptation, where she is more or less a complete onlooker and DamselInDistress between Sonic and Metallix's fight, even when she is the only one not victim to a nearby ShrinkRay. Obviously this was ''before'' Amy TookALevelInBadass.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Already worn down by several defeats by Sonic, Amy provides TheLastStraw for Robotnik's sanity with a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech, causing him to desire ''destroying'' the planet instead of ruling it, and coming worryingly close in his first attempt.
* NumberTwo: Whenever Sonic is unable to lead the freedom fighters, Amy takes command.
* PinkGirlBlueBoy: With Sonic.
* TheGadfly: Her "crush" is implied to just be her teasing Sonic because she likes to see him flustered.
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Sonic's and Shortfuse's red.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: To Tekno's GirlyGirl.
* UnlimitedWardrobe: Unlike her original continuity counterpart, has one different outfit for each story she appears in aside from her classic design. Several of them are sweatshirts but they still have different designs.
* UnwillingRoboticisation: Happens twice. First, Robotnik's responsible. Second time, Brutus is responsible. Fortunately, Sonic saves her both times.
* VagueAge: Her age is hard to pin. In early issues she didn't seem as young as Amy was at the time (eight) and it's unknown how she ages over time. She seems older than twelve in ''Adventure'' though.
* WeakButSkilled: Never gains the raw power of Sonic or Knuckles, but her smarts and ranged combat abilities allow her to be almost as effective under the right conditions.
* WhatTheHellHero: Gives one to Shortfuse when he nearly lets Johnny die and to Sonic when he is being a jerk to Porker when he quits the freedom fighters.
* WomenAreWiser: Began inverted due to her more bubbly and childish attitude, deliberately played straight in later stories however (see above).
%%* {{Xenafication}}:

!!Johnny Lightfoot
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/150035-166044-johnny-lightfoot_large_1052.png]]
A Freedom Fighter. Based on the "Pocky" captive from the original games.

------
* AnthropomorphicShift: One issue he's a small, vaguely anthropomorphic rabbit and the next he's a fully clothed, humanoid rabbit with hands.
* AscendedExtra: Similar to Sally Acorn, was upgraded to a full on protagonist in his respective canon.
* TheGenericGuy: To a degree, as he played the StraightMan to the rest of the cast; as a result, in his pitch for the ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure'' adaptation, writer Nigel Kitching jokingly claimed "Johnny is dull, Johnny has always been dull [[SeriousBusiness and that is why Johnny must die]]".
%%* InnocentBlueEyes
* ItsPersonal: Johnny took the actions of [[TheMole Agent X/Shayde]] very personally, given that Shayde posed as Johnny and infiltration of the freedom fighters.
* KilledOffForReal: Johnny is killed by Chaos punching him while Johnny tries to fix Porker's device in order to defeat Chaos.
%%* TheBigGuy
%%* SacrificialLion:
%%* [[spoiler:SuddenSequelDeathSyndrome: He dies at the beginning of the ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure'' adaptation]]
* UnwillingRoboticisation: Brutus turns him into a Badnik in the story Revolution but thankfully Shortfuse frees him.

!!Porker Lewis
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/220px-Porker-Lewis_2764.png]]
A panicky Freedom Fighter. Based on the "Picky" captive from the original games.

------
* AnthropomorphicShift: Arguably even more noticeable than Johnny, gaining a muscular body nearly twice Sonic's height, compared to his "small animal" design identical to the games early on (amusingly flashbacks were occasionally used featuring the character [[{{Retcon}} with his humanoid design]]). He changed twice, since at first he still had his hooves before they were changed to hands.
* AscendedExtra: Again like Johnny.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler: His real name is Oscar the Pig, a native of the Special Zone who unwittingly became involved with a Mafia boss named Hammerhead who used Porker's research to develop weapons. When he destroyed his research and sabotaged the project, Hammerhead had him framed, forcing him to flee to Mobius, where he eventually joined up with Sonic]].
* FeatherFingers: He could hold things in his hooves for a little while before they were [[AnthropomorphicShift replaced with hands]].
%%* FullNameBasis
* HeroicBSOD: After being stranded on the Miracle Planet for a month, Porker Lewis has this and quits the Freedom Fighters.
* InconsistentColoring: In the ''Adventure'' arc he has both blue and brown eyes.
* NonActionGuy: Never a fighter, Porker loses his nerve entirely after being captured by the Metallixes, and he retires from the Freedom Fighters. Of course, this doesn't stop him from helping his old pals a few times afterwards with his technical skills.
* PunnyName: His name is a reference to the sitcom ''Series/ParkerLewisCantLose''.
%%* TheSmartGuy:
* {{Transplant}}: After his encounter with Metallix, Porker quits the Freedom Fighters and relocates to the Floating Island to study the ancient echidna civilisation and becomes an important supporting character for Knuckles as much as he is for Sonic.
* UnwillingRoboticisation: Robotnik turns him into a Badnik in issue 1, but thankfully Sonic frees him.

* FeatherFingers: Flies with ease, despite having humanoid arms and wearing gloves.
* {{Flight}}: She easily flies despite having humanoid arms.
* TheMole: Previously worked as an engineer for Robotnik, but used the role as a cover to steal Badnik parts and intelligence.

------
* ArmCannon: His armour has a blaster on each one of the armour's arms.
* AsYouKnow: He repeats his back-story so frequently that it became something of a running gag to fans.
%%* ClingyCostume
* CursedWithAwesome: His Badnik armor gives him flight, NighInvulnerability and [[EnergyWeapon Frickin' Laser Beams]]. He hates it.
* DependingOnTheArtist: His proportions will differ from story to story, with some artists depicting him as being as tall as Robotnik and heavily built, with others depicting him with the same proportions are Sonic or Knuckles (large head, small body with thin limbs) and short enough that the humanoid Commander Brutus has to double over to be eye level to him.
* EvilCounterpart: Has one in Vermin the Cybernik.
* HairTriggerTemper: He's called Shortfuse for a reason.
* IWorkAlone: Declines offers to properly join forces with the Freedom Fighters, and with Tekno. Of course, he's good for occasional team-ups with them every now and then, even if he isn't the best team player.
* MadeOfIndestructium: His Megatal armour. It even kept him alive while he was submerged for months under '''''lava''''', while his systems were down as a result of an {{EMP}} blast.
* ManInTheMachine: He spends most of the series [[ClingyCostume trapped]] in a suit of indestructible armour.

* BrainUploading: When the ROCC exploded one of the power rings had Kintobor's brain patterns imprinted on it.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: The computer seen in the sixth issue's ''Attack on the Death Egg'' is a regular desktop computer with a more heavyset Kintobor head within a globe, rather than the more elaborate super-computer design introduced when the character became more relevant.
* MissionControl: For the freedom fighters.
* ProjectedMan: Projects a hologram of Kintobor's head.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Chaotix Crew]]
Tropes for the Chaotix Crew as a whole:
* AdaptationalJerkass: Not quite as excessively as Sonic, but they have far more cynical and rude tempered personalities in the comics. Especially evident with Mighty, who compared to his gentle characterisation in the games is basically a lite Sonic here. Vector and Espio's [[VitriolicBestBuds gruff but brotherly relationship]] with Charmy is also dumbed down to [[TheFriendNobodyLikes barely tolerant]] here.
* AdaptedOut: Heavy and Bomb.
* ArchEnemy: Theirs' was originally Nack, later he was replaced in the role by Lord Sidewinder.
* {{Faceship}}: They have one which they use to navigate the Special Zone. For some reason it's modeled after Charmy's head.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Mighty and Espio often butt heads, and Charmy tends to annoy the other party members.

!!The Omni-Viewer
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Omniviewe44_7228.jpg]]
The Omni-Viewer (or Omni, as he is commonly known) is a recurring character in Sonic the Comic. Although not entirely clear what Omni is, he often acts as a computer program, and is the master of the bizarre [[PocketDimension Special Zone]]. He has many other abilities, however, such as the power to transport people through time and space.

------
* LoopholeAbuse: Early on, he was forced by Robotnik to send Sonic and his friends into the future, which would allow Robotnik to easily conquer Mobius. However, Omni only sends Sonic and Co. six months into the future, thus technically obeying Robotnik while also putting Sonic in a position to eventually fix things.
* MentorArchetype: To Sonic in his early days.
* SealedGoodInACan: He was sealed in the Black Asteroid.
* SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan: He is the can, he and Sonic devised a plan to banish Super to another dimension. At the last second, with Super smashed into Omni's space, he changed his mind, not wishing to burden anybody else with Super Sonic. Omni tried to freeze time, making himself an eternal prison, but only managed to slow time to a crawl. The others moved Omni to the Black Asteroid, hoping to contain Super Sonic when he eventually broke free from Omni.
%%* SentientPhlebotinum:
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Forced by Robotnik to get rid of Sonic and friends, however Robotnik didn't say how so he [[LoopholeAbuse sends them only six months in future]], but Robotnik in that six months had taken over Mobius.

------
* TheFace: He is usually the one who handles Chaotix's PR issues and liaisons with the New Tek City police.
* GeniusBruiser: He is balanced in both brawn and brains. His physical strength is significant and he tends to fight using his tail and teeth. He also possesses keen computation and detective skills.
* TheLeader: Of the Chaotix Crew.
* MadScientist: He is a capable scientist.
%%* OmnidisciplinaryScientist:

A member of the Chaotix Crew and he is a prince of The Hive, being the son of the Queen Bee.

------
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: He acts like one to the Chaotix.
%%* CheerfulChild
* CloudCuckooLander: Similar to Amy's earlier personality, Charmy acts strikingly similar to how the games would eventually convey him. However while games Charmy's wacky habits are down to his young age, comics Charmy just seems generally kooky.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: While he is ditzy and carefree, in both of the Chaotix's solo stories, he's the one who saved the day through the use of [[CrazyEnoughToWork very unconventional methods]].
* DudeWheresMyRespect: As noted he does pull his own weight and has even saved his teammates on occasion. His CloudCuckooLander personality however grates on them so much that they show pretty much zero gratitude for it.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Barely anyone else in Chaotix can stand Charmy due to his irritatingly loud and air headed personality. Even people outside of the Chaotix Crew find him annoying, with Sonic openly admitting to himself that he's going to hate himself later when he tries to rescue Charmy, albeit he tries to be nicer to Charmy than the other Chaotix.
* HonestCorporateExecutive: He becomes this after buying out Crimson Cobra Inc in order to end the threat of the villian The Crimson Cobra.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: The reason he puts up with the Chaotix's blatant dislike of him is because he genuinely believes they're only pretending. Even Sonic, who openly loathes Charmy just as much, feels a little sorry for him when realising this.
-->'''Sonic:''' Poor delusional fool...
* KingIncognito: He's actually the son of the bee hive's queen, but he hides his true status because he'd rather go on adventures with the Chaotix Crew than be sent back home and be royalty.
* ModestRoyalty: Even though he's a prince, he doesn't dress in a way hinting at this. This is intentional though, since he doesn't want the Chaotix Crew to know.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: It's not clear if he's doing this, or if he's just that foolish. Either way, the key fact to note is that in every Chaotix story, Charmy is the one who defeats the villain.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: He's one of if not the most capable members of the Chaotix Crew and is also a bee prince (though he hides the latter fact).
%%* WarriorPrince: Just barely.

Doctor Ivo Robotnik is the primary antagonist of Sonic the Comic and the sworn enemy of Sonic the Hedgehog. Born Ovi Kintobor, a laboratory "accident" (later revealed to be caused by Sonic) turned the mild mannered professor into an evil, tyrannical doctor with a thirst for power. He soon conquered Mobius and transformed its citizens into mobile, mechanical weapons known as Badniks. Sonic and his Freedom Fighters fought him for years until he was finally defeated and lost his reign over the planet. Several more years followed with many attempts to regain power. However, Robotnik never truly did regain power and went insane, trying to destroy the world on more than one occasion.

------
* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: During his time as the ruler of Mobius; Robotnik is well-aware that everyone on Mobius hates him, and doesn't care. It became more pronounced near the end of his reign as he lost his grip of terror over the citizens, with them doing such things as destroying his statues, holding demonstrations and protests, mocking him on national television, and even fighting back against his Badniks.
** After he's overthrown, however, a {{cult}} called [[FunWithAcronyms D.R.A.T.]] surfaced, all of them supporting Robotnik and desiring to bring him back to power. Despite this, even they acknowledge in their oath that Robotnik did horrible things and made their lives miserable.
* AdaptationalVillainy: He is a ruthless tyrant, possibly worse than the ''SATAM'' version.
* AGodAmI: In the Robotnik Reigns Supreme arc.
* AlternateIdentityAmnesia: According to issue 26, he has no memory of his life as Dr. Kintobor; thus, when he [[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog1 launched his first scheme]], he [[DidntSeeThatComing wasn't expecting Sonic to interfere]].
* ArchEnemy: He is one of Sonic's along with Super Sonic.
* ArtEvolution: Under Richard Elson's artstyle, Robotnik's moves away from directly using the WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog design to something closer to a cross between his Adventures and [[WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM SatAM]] designs in the VideoGame/SonicAdventure outfit.
* BadBoss: When his plans fail he takes it out on Grimer, and when his trooper Badniks report bad news, he kills them.
%%* BaldOfEvil
* BewareTheSillyOnes: In early issues, he was a standard goofy CardCarryingVillain version of the doctor, though more sociopathic than standard. However shortly in, he traps Sonic forward in time, allowing him to completely take over Mobius. He retains some goofy plans and behaviour DependingOnTheWriter, but from that point on he considered a full and ever present threat, with Sonic's team only able to slowly resist his control.
%%* BigBad
* BlackEyesOfCrazy: Until he undergoes his transformation, his eyes are entirely black. After his transformation, they're black with RedEyesTakeWarning.
* BodyToJewel: In Order & Chaos when Robotnik absorbs the Chaos Emeralds' power his body turns into a crystal statue. However it proves to be a temporary state while he adjusts to the Chaos Emerald's power.
* BrightIsNotGood: As Grand Vizier to Princess Kupacious he wore white robes with golden plates on.
* CardCarryingVillain: He openly acknowledges he's evil and describes himself as a "merciless, power-crazed dictator."
* CompositeCharacter: The comics Robotnik ended up taking blatant shades from both his LargeHam ''WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog'' interpretation and his EvilOverlord ''[[WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM SatAM]]'' interpretation, both mentally and physically.
* DeathSeeker: After a VillainousBreakdown he gathers the Chaos Emeralds, the Freedom Fighters, and Chaos itself to his retreat so they would all die together.
* DemotedToDragon: In the Drakon arc he makes a deal with Emperor Ko-Dorr, The Drakons would provide Robotnik with resources and transport, and he in turn would deliver the Chaos Emeralds, then in the Shanazar arc he worked as Grand Vizier to Princess Kupacious, but both times he was [[DragonWithAnAgenda using them for further]] [[TheStarscream his own goals]] and he was a [[DragonInChief far greater threat]] than Princess Kupacious.
* DependingOnTheWriter: The creative team were at odds whether to depict him as a sinister deadly competent dictator, or a petty egotistical bumbler more reminiscent of the games' Eggman depiction.
* DespotismJustifiesTheMeans: He just plain does ''not'' care what condition Mobius is in as long as he's the one ruling it. In the "Robotnik Reigns Supreme" arc, when he becomes a nigh-omnipotent RealityWarper using the Chaos Emeralds, he alters history so Sonic was never born, turning the planet into a horrifying dystopia in which Porker was a servant of Robotnik, Amy and Johnny were frightened civilians, Tails was dead, and the Emerald Hill Zone was a metal wasteland used for toxic chemical dumping, while Robotnik relentlessly tormented them.
* DimensionLord: Of the Special Zone.
* DragonInChief: Princess Kupacious' DragonInChief being a far greater threat than her.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: The first few issues, before [=StC=]'s main plot gets rolling, include Robotnik speaking with an egg pun VerbalTic and unwilling to take both Sonic and Tails on at once.
** He's also prone to making derogatory pop culture reference and treats his Badniks as if they're workers with a wage in earlier issues.
* EmperorScientist: By hijacking the Omni-Viewer, he sends Sonic six months into the future, taking advantage of the hero's absence to completely take over Mobius. He rules the planet with an iron fist until the 100th issue, when Super Sonic exploding the Black Asteroid unleashed an electromagnetic pulse that knocked out all of his technology and allowed Sonic and co. to overthrow him once and for all. From there, Robotnik's schemes mostly revolve around trying to reestablish his empire, only for Sonic's continued thwarting of his plans to drive him insane, leading to a SuicidalCosmicTemperTantrum.
* EvilChancellor: As Grand Vizier in the Shanazar arc.
* EvilIsPetty: During his time as the dictator of Mobius, he was prone to such actions as having his Badniks attack Zones he ''already ruled'' just to prove he could.
* EvilOverlord: As the ruler of Mobius.
* EyeBeams: After absorbing the power of of the Chaos Emeralds he is able to fire beams of Chaos Energy out of his eyes.
%%* FatBastard:
* ForTheEvulz: Robotnik revolves many of his plans and pastimes on the suffering of innocents.
* GeniusBruiser: Much like Archie Robotnik/Eggman, when the chips are down and the robots destroyed, he'll fight Sonic with his bare hands.
* TheHeavy: Even when he is DemotedToDragon he still the main threat.
* HeelFaceTurn: When Knuckles drains his Chaos power away he turns back into Doctor Ovi Kintobor.
* HisOwnWorstEnemy: According to Amy, this is why Robotnik's plans always fail: his own evil methodology has been self-defeating. This triggers Robotnik's VillainousBreakdown, leading to his SuicidalCosmicTemperTantrum.
-->'''Amy''': You could be a good and kind ruler if you wanted to, Robotnik, but you chose to be evil! That's why you'll always fail! Sonic isn't your greatest enemy... ''you'' are!
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Some of his plans are stopped by Shortfuse, who, [[AsYouKnow in case you needed reminding]], Robotnik turned into a Cybernik.
* KnightOfCerebus: In the last two arcs of ''ComicBook/SonicTheComic'' after becoming an OmnicidalManiac.
* LackOfEmpathy
* LaughablyEvil: He was generally one of the more sinister Robotnik incarnations, but in filler stories he often acted like a standard hammy, tantrum prone version of the doctor.
%%* MadScientist
* TheNthDoctor: Robotnik initially looked like he did in the games. In the 21st issue, he is convinced by two guys ([[{{Expy}} expies]] of the comic staff) to change his appearance. He does so by [[BigLippedAlligatorMoment encasing himself in a egg]]. He hatches in the following issue, now resembling his [[WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog AOSTH]] design. As pictured, by the VideoGame/SonicAdventure arc, he now looks like the [[WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM SatAM]] Robotnik with the SA counterpart's clothes.
* OmnicidalManiac: As of his VillainousBreakdown.
* PhysicalGod: After absorbing the power of of the Chaos Emeralds he become a [[TheOmnipotent Omnipotent]], [[TheOmniscient Omniscient]], RealityWarper, [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking and]] [[EyeBeams he can fire Eye Beams]].
* PoweredArmor: Robotnik wears War-Armour to battle [[TheStarscream Brutus]] which has a distinctive green and purple colour scheme, much like the battle-suit worn by super-villain, Lex Luthor, it also has a [[KillItWithIce hose-like weapon that sprays liquid nitrogen]] which alows Robotnik to destroy [[MadeOfIndestructium Brutus]].
* PowerGlows: After absorbing the power of of the Chaos Emeralds his body glows green.
* PresidentEvil: Used to rule the whole of Mobius.
* RealityWarper: In the Robotnik Reigns Supreme arc.
%%* RedEyesTakeWarning
* ReputationApathy: In issue #21, two people serving as Robotnik's image consultants recommend to Robotnik that he change his image, pointing out that nobody on Mobius likes him and a make-over might help his image. Robotnik threw them out of his office, declaring that he's a "merciless, power-crazed dictator" and doesn't ''care'' whether or not anyone on Mobius likes him.
* RetGone: What he does to Sonic in the Robotnik Reigns Supreme arc, altering history so that Sonic was never born.
* TheStarscream: He was briefly The Starscream when he was allied with the [[TheEmpire Drakon Empire]] and and then to Princess Kupacious both times he succeeded.
* SanitySlippage: In the events leading up to the ''Sonic Adventure'' adaptation, Robotnik begins to lose it, first trying to [[EndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt destroy Mobius]], and later gathering the Chaos Emeralds, the Freedom Fighters, and Chaos itself to his retreat so they would all die together.
* TheSociopath: Taking after his [=SatAM=] incarnation, Robotnik only cares about himself and his empire, forcing his laws upon the people of Mobius and feeling none of the pain he causes others. He's intelligent and manipulative, easily using Knuckles to do his bidding and find Sonic's base, and eventually gets bored with just being a tyrant, trying to seize power through the Chaos Emeralds and become a [[TheOmnipotent god]]. Several of his plans are also devoted to simply making people suffer rather than any specific purpose, and near the end of the series, he tries to [[OmnicidalManiac destroy Mobius]] and everything on it, including himself, out of [[EvilIsPetty spite]].
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: Is this to his former self [[FriendToAllLivingThings Dr Ovi Kintobor]], due to exposure to raw evil Chaos Energy.
* VerbalTic: In the very early issues, he had a habit of substituting "ex" for "eggs" in words.
-->'''Robotnik:''' How **eggs-asperating!** That hard boiled blue blur has escaped by badniks **again!**
* VillainousBreakdown: After constantly losing to Sonic for years [[spoiler:(even as a God)]], he undergoes this as well as becoming an OmnicidalManiac in the original comics' last two story arcs.
* VillainsOutShopping: Best shown in Issue #42. He's the power-crazed EmperorScientist of Mobius... who also enjoys a cup of hot cocoa while reading teen romance novels.
* YoureInsane: Grimer to Robotnik twice after Chaos absorbs the Chaos Emeralds;
** In Issue #183:
-->'''Robotnik''': I keep on telling you, Grimer, my faithful fool... I don't have a plan. This is the 'End' for us all!\
'''Grimer''': You're... you're mad...\
'''Robotnik''': So what?
** In Issue #184
-->'''Grimer''': I don't 'believe' you have no plan! 'You' set this up... 'You' lured Chaos here, 'you' gave him the rest of the emeralds...\
'''Robotnik''': I just wanted to be here at the 'end', my dear Grimer... I wanted to see for myself how 'Mobius died!'\
'''Grimer''': You're mad... 'Completely insane!' Oh, and one more thing... I quit.

!!Grimer
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Grimer_144_1988.jpg]]
Robotnik's chief scientist and most loyal toady.

------
* AffablyEvil: Grimer, despite ''looking'' ugly and vile as sin, is actually genuinely cheerful, pleasant, optimistic, and so very, very happy in his work. He's even quite polite to Sonic and the Freedom Fighters when they directly interact or clash.
* AmbiguousSpecies: It's never quite said ''what'' he is, but he looks neither human nor animal.
* DirtyCoward: Constantly. In practically his only direct combat role, he shoots Amy in the back - and he only does ''that'' after all the other heroes are down.
%%* DragonAscendant:
%%* EvilGenius:
* EvenEvilHasStandards:
** Even he thinks that destroying Mobius is going too far, and when it becomes clear that Robotnik has gone [[YoureInsane completely and suicidally insane]], he quits.
** In odd instances, Grimer was shown to be a visibly disturbed towards the mistreatment some of Robotnik's goons suffered from their BadBoss. He downright felt sorry for Metamorphia.
* HypercompetentSidekick: As well as being the primary designer of many of Robotnik's most dangerous war machines, he personally comes to Robotnik's rescue on several occasions. His finest moment came when he was jailed after Robotnik was apparently destroyed by the Chaos Emeralds, where he [[spoiler: took control of his prison, hacked into the Kintobor computer to keep Sonic under absolute surveillance and ultimately outsmarted and outmaneuvered the heroes to find Robotnik]].
* TheIgor: He embodies this trope - the hideous goblin-like appearance, the frail build, the intense and possibly undue loyalty to his boss (who, naturally, he refers to as "Master"), and the deep fondness he has for his work.
* KarmaHoudini: Despite the fact he played a fundamental role in Robotnik's schemes, designed and built most of the Badniks, was entirely culpable for releasing Chaos and therefore indirectly causing [[spoiler:Johnny Lightfoot's death]] and (unlike Robotnik) has no excuse for his evil ways besides loyalty, Grimer strides out of the series scot-free and unrepentant, with a triumphant 'I quit!'.
%%* MadScientist
%%* MonstrousHumanoid
%%* NonActionGuy
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: He's usually seen in Robotnik's shadow, carrying out his orders with obsequious alacrity or [[CowardlySidekick nervous meekness]] as the situation demands. When Robotnik needs to be rescued, however, Grimer becomes a ChessMaster to be reckoned with. And at one point when Sonic is captured, he turns downright [[TortureTechnician scary]].
* ObviouslyEvil: Let's see... EvilEyebrows, RedEyesTakeWarning, VillainousCheekbones, BaldOfEvil with what hair he has crafted into SpikesOfVillainy. Somewhat balanced out by his [[PoliteVillainsRudeHeroes good manners]] and natty little bowtie.
* PoliteVillainsRudeHeroes: He's quite pleasant and polite, providing a stark contrast to Sonic, who's a smug, immature JerkWithAHeartOfGold.
* ShoutOut: A character bio in one issue gave his surname as [[Literature/TheLordOfTheRings Wormtongue]]. Writer Nigel Kitching subsequently clarified that this was added in by the editor, and isn't Grimer's surname in the story.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: He fills the role of Snively from ''WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM''. In fact, Snively was supposed to be in the comic, but the creators weren't allowed to use him.
** Unlike Snively however, he’s genuinely loyal to Robotnik and never tries to betray him or take charge of his empire.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Robotnik.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Everything bad that happens in the comic's final arc, including [[spoiler:Johnny Lightfoot's death]], is all because Grimer stupidly released Chaos in an attempt to snap Robotnik out of his depression.
* TheWatson: Robotnik often has to explain his plans in little bitesize pieces to Grimer, even when they are achingly simple.

* AccidentalMisnaming: It has been so long since Sonic fought Megatox that Sonic has forget him and even after remembering him he still forgets Megatox's name calling him Mr. Tox.
* BlobMonster: His body is made of a liquid, however in his second appearance he had absorbed the electricity from the factory which allowed him to become solid enough to perform physical attacks, however when he is solid he can be hit by attacks as well.
* ElementalShapeshifter: He is a toxic liquid called Mega Mack.
* ManOfKryptonite: Mega Mack was specifically designed to kill Sonic, and Megatox is ''made'' of it.
* MesACrowd: He is capable of splitting into smaller multiple bodies, he can also merge back to full size.

He has a primarily purple body structure, although he has been rebuilt into new forms several times. Nutzan Bolt possesses numerous in-built weapons and features, including guns and saws in his arms that he uses for decapitating things (often robots). 508[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/metallix_6597.png]]
A robotic version of Sonic the Hedgehog - it carried the title of the Metal Sonic. As fast as Sonic himself, and armed with a lethal death ray, Metallixes are notably very difficult to kill, their only apparent weak spots being in their necks.

------
* AdaptationNameChange: The comic changed his name from Metal Sonic to Metallix. The writer of the story that introduced him stated that the reason was that he felt "'Metal Sonic' wouldn't do". The comic still referenced his more common name, though, as he's referred to as "Metallix the Metal Sonic" several times.
* ChestBlaster: He has a blaster in his chest.
* EvilKnockoff: It is based on Metal Sonic in ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehogCD''.
* RetGone: What happens to him because of a time paradox (Sonic was given the Time Stone by a time-travelling Sonic from the future, enabling him to travel back in time to prevent the planet's cyberforming and thus erase Metallix from existence... and then go give the Time Stone to himself from the past.) 526* ImposterForgotOneDetail: When she shapeshifted into Sonic she made his fur green. How the badniks even mistook her for Sonic in the first place is anyone's guess.
* PartialTransformation: Often converts her hands into [[WolverineClaws claws]], [[BladeBelowTheShoulder blades]], [[ArmCannon laser blasters]], and hammers.
* PowerCopying: When she morphs into someone or something else, she tends to get whatever powers the subject has; for example, when morphing into Sonic, she got his SuperSpeed.
* PowerIncontinence: However, just because she has their powers doesn't always mean she can use it properly; she nearly died in her first appearance because she assumed Tails' form and didn't know how to fly, only escaping death by turning into a fireproof form after she fell into a pit.
* RedemptionEarnsLife: Having finally rejected Robotnik once and for all, she not only gets released from her Badnik shell but mutates--despite having lost her powers--into an ordinary Mobian who finds her own path and won't be tracked down by her former master.
* ShapeshifterDefaultForm: In her standard form, Metamorphia appears to be an anthropomorphic bobcat she has black eyes with white pupils which have usually appeared as horizontal slits. She normally wears a purple jumpsuit, but has also worn a torn yellow dress with black spots and a green jumpsuit (under her Badnik armour).
* UnwillingRoboticisation: This was inverted she started out as an apparently cybernetic artificial life-form, was turned into a Badnik and transformed into an organic character.
* VoluntaryShapeShifting: She is able to shapeshift into just about anyone or anything.

A Metallix robot modelled after Sonic the Hedgehog that was built separately from the Brotherhood of Metallix. This was supposed to be an advanced version of the original Metal Sonic, although it turned out to be less effective than its predecessor.

------
* ChestBlaster: He has a blaster in his chest.
* EnergyAbsorption: Can absorb the Chaos energy of the Master Emerald giving it enough power to knock Knuckles out cold and easily beat Sonic, however he punched Sonic with enough force that Sonic landed on the Master Emerald and transformed into [[SuperPoweredEvilSide Super Sonic]] who utterly destroy the Metallix.
* EvilKnockoff: It is based on Mecha Sonic in VideoGame/Sonic3AndKnuckles.
* FamilyUnfriendlyDeath: Super Sonic [[OffWithHisHead chops his head clean off]] and then literally rips his body to shreds. Of course, given that he's a [[MechaMooks robot]], the "family unfriendly" part is toned down a bit.

The Brotherhood of Metallix is an army of Metallix robots created by Grimer. Led by an Emperor, the Brotherhood were charged with creating the ultimate Metal Sonic robot to destroy Sonic the Hedgehog, and remained aboard the Egg Fortress in the Special Zone after Robotnik had abandoned it. For reasons unknown, the Brotherhood went rogue and began working toward the conquest of Mobius.

------
* AchillesHeel: Their necks are their one weak spot.
* AIIsACrapshoot: The entire Brotherhood turned against Robotnik to pursue their own agenda.
* BrotherhoodOfEvil: A robotic variation, but a brotherhood nevertheless.
* ChestBlaster: All Metallix have blasters in their chests.

* {{Expy}}: WordOfGod has stated, after much speculation from fans, that the concept of an army of murderous robots led by an Emperor was indeed borrowed from the Daleks. 576Commander Brutus was Doctor Robotnik's one-time second-in-command and a major threat to Mobius in his own right. Originally an member of the Special Badnik Service equipped with superior strength and an anti-gravity device, he became far more intelligent, more cuning and more dangerous than the average trooper when he was chosen to be reprogrammed with a copy of Robotnik's brainwaves.

Although he was too powerful for Sonic to defeat in their first encounter, he disobeyed orders to return the captive Freedom Fighters to Robotnik's citadel and ended up beaten in a fight with Super Sonic which cost him an arm and forced him to retreat. Having inherited Robotnik's desire to rule Mobius along with his intelligence, Brutus secretly began to build up a Badnik army of his own, and soon became powerful enough to start a civil war with Robotnik for control of his empire. In the end, Robotnik himself did what Sonic could never manage, fighting Brutus in an armoured battle suit before dousing him with liquid nitrogen and smashing him to pieces.

* CurbStompBattle: What his battles are when anyone else takes him on except [[SuperPoweredEvilSide Super Sonic]], who damages him and destroys his right arm.
* DirtyCoward: When he's overwhelmed by Super Sonic in their first face-off, he tries to get the upper hand by using Amy as a HumanShield. Unfortunately, Super Sonic is a danger to friend and foe alike and keeps up his charge; Brutus fails to realize that Super is pressing his attack until the last second and ends up losing his arm.
* TheDragon: What Robotnik wanted him to be.
* DragonWithAnAgenda: Wants to rule Mobius.
* TheDreaded: Of the six enemies Robotnik resurrected during Robotnik Reigns Supreme, Brutus was the only one Sonic specifically stated he hoped he'd never see again.
* {{Flight}}: He's equipped with an anti gravity unit allowing this.
* GeniusBruiser: He has a copy of Robotnik's brainwaves as well as Grimer's brainwaves allowing him to create his own Badniks and he is strong enough to defeat Sonic.
* GoneHorriblyRight: Robotnik programmed Brutus with a copy of his brainwaves to give himself a second-in-command, but failed to realize that he had also programmed Brutus with his personality ''and'' his ambitions, thus resulting in Brutus becoming TheStarscream.
* InvincibleVillain: Sonic has ''never'' actually been able to defeat Brutus; in their first battle, Sonic had to resort to becoming [[SuperpoweredEvilSide Super Sonic]] just to stand a chance against him, and even when he teamed up with Shortfuse the Cybernik, he was completely outmatched. In the end, it was Robotnik himself, using PoweredArmor, who destroyed Brutus, by dousing him in liquid nitrogen and smashing him to pieces.
** However, Sonic manages to defeat Brutus when he comes back in the Robotnik Reigns Supreme Arc by knocking him into Plasma, destroying him as well as generating an electric explosion that defeats all the other enemies that have been brought back by Robotnik.

* SuperSenses: He has infrared vision.
* SurroundedByIdiots: His view of his Trooper Badniks, best said by Brutus himself; "Bah! How did Robotnik rule Mobius with you idiots working for him?"
* TheWorfEffect: In his first battle with Sonic. He's easily able to handle Sonic and co., but when Super Sonic is unleashed, he gets curb-stomped and loses an arm.

The Drakon Empire is an inter-galactic empire that presumably encompasses several planets and species. The centre is Drak, home to a race of fish people called the Drakon people. Society is led by Master Scholar (House of Knowledge), Sister Haggra (House of Magic) and Emperor Ko-Dorr (House of War). The Empire's main goal is to relocate their Chaos Emeralds, ancient stones stolen by an old Echidna tribe that contain their store of Chaos energy. With these, they can rule the entire universe.

Emperor Ko-Dorr is a Drakon, and the leader of the House of War.

In his first appearance in ''Sonic the Comic'', he came into contact with Dr Robotnik, brought to the Drakon Empire by a Prosecutor. While initially the Drakons were curious as to who had discovered the secrets of the Mobius Ring on Flickies' Island, Ko-Dorr's attention shifted to Sonic the Hedgehog, Robotnik telling the Emperor that the hedgehog was guilty of crimes against the Drakon Empire, through the destruction of a Sentinel. Ko-Dorr and Robotnik thus made a deal: The Drakons would provide Robotnik with resources and transport, and he in turn would deliver the Chaos Emeralds, allowing Ko-Dorr to rule the House of Magic and House of Knowledge in addition to his own House of War, but the first priority was to deal with Sonic. The hedgehog was brought to the House of War and entered into a Trial by Combat against a Metallix Mark 3, Ko-Dorr presiding as judge. When Sonic was victorious, with a little help from Tails, Ko-Dorr saw that the hedgehog was safely returned home, but was left with a promise that the Drakons hadn't seen the last of Sonic.

Later, Sister Haggra revealed to Ko-Dorr and Master Scholar that Sonic was the key to the Drakons obtaining the Chaos Emeralds, but Ko-Dorr was forced to feign ignorance and pretend not to know the hedgehog. The Emperor soon after visited Flickies' Island to bring his plan forward. The intent was to bring Sonic in and interrogate him on the whereabouts of the Emeralds, but the hedgehog wiped out every Drakon invading the Emerald Hill Zone, including a Master Sentinel. To the Emperor's good fortune though, Grimer, switched sides to join the Drakons, claiming to have had enough of working for Robotnik.

In the House of War, Grimer revealed that the Emeralds were indeed on the Floating Island, but warned Ko-Dorr of Knuckles and his Guardian Robots. Pre-occupied with planning his invasion, the Emperor had no interest in dealing with Hobson and Choy, who had defaced his statue, planning to decide on their punishment 'in a year or two.' When the Drakons later invaded the Floating Island, Ko-Dorr remained in touch with Grimer, who was leading the invasion, from the House of War. What happened to him and the other Drakons when Robotnik reshaped the universe is unknown.

!!Death-Trap
[[quoteright:400:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/deathtrap_3740.jpg]]
Death Trap were a team of mercenaries hired to capture Sonic the Hedgehog in the world of Shanazar, after Sonic had rescued several children from being merged with genies (a ritual that protected the Kingdom of Shanazar). Consisting of Kalus (the leader, made of stone), Prank (able to summon a genie) and Totem Billy (a scout, amazingly keen sense of smell and long-range vision), they first appeared in Issue 157 after Sonic escaped from prison. Hired by Doctor Robotnik to capture Sonic and bring him to Princess Kupacious, the crew made a decent effort of knocking Sonic about, until the hedgehog realised he didn't need to fight this battle, and fled. Totem Billy, however, was able to follow his scent.

Death Trap eventually returned in Issue 163, back on the trail of Sonic after Totem Billy recovered from a cold. They discover that Sonic is in an isolated city, but are stopped by Medusa, whose glare turns Prank and Totem Billy into stone. Kalus, already made of stone, heads to attack Medusa, but crumbles into sand after a delayed reaction. Later, Sonic notes that the two stony members of Death Trap won't be hunting him anymore, but comes face to face with a sandy Kalus. Sonic uses this to his advantage, destroying Kalus and using the ensuing sand cloud to defeat Medusa. With that, Death Trap were effectively no more.

!!Super Sonic
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/255px-STC85-SuperSonic_3768.jpg]]
-->"The cute blue hedgehog is gone - now you're up against '''Super Sonic!''' And it ain't gonna be pretty."
Super Sonic is usually what happens when Sonic powers up with Chaos Energy, or under conditions of extreme stress - however he's a demonic force of pure evil. Sonic's had to battle him several times, as have his friends, but Super Sonic is ''completely invincible in every way,'' requiring other methods to take him down. When used, Super Sonic ''does'' admittedly take down the threat in question, but will rapidly move on to destroying anything else in the vicinity, including innocent bystanders, Sonic's own friends, and the entire planet. He has no specific enemies (because nobody can beat him), but seems to dislike Sonic in particular for trying to keep him in check.\
\
He's hyper-aggressive, sadistic, completely psychotic, utterly without self-restraint, and most dangerously of all, ''easily bored.'' It's unclear whether Super Sonic ''is'' Sonic but turned evil due to Chaos Energy, or a completely different demonic entity manifesting itself in Sonic's body - Sonic prefers to talk about him as if he's a different person, others refer to him as being Sonic's evil double, while Super Sonic is fuzzy on the matter. Other villains have offered him the chance to team up, only to find that Super Sonic cares nothing for power, only for destruction.

------
* AdaptationalVillainy: In most incarnations, Super Sonic is merely Sonic's SuperMode. Here, he's a full-fledged SuperpoweredEvilSide[=/=]EnemyWithin with his own identity and personality, and is completely [[AxCrazy psychotic]].
* AlternateIdentityAmnesia: Seemingly averted, though downplayed, unlike Sonic himself - he attacks Amy Rose in one issue because he remembers Sonic and Porker had been speaking about her shortly before Sonic fell into a chaos energy well on the Floating Island.
* AmnesiacsAreInnocent: When he loses his memories, he's much friendlier and kinder.
* AmnesiacDissonance: He's horrified when he realises who he was before he lost his memory, and takes a vow that he will not use his powers unless absolutely necessary, out of fear that he'll permanently become a monster again. [[spoiler:Sadly it doesn't last.]]
* ArchEnemy: He is one of Sonic's along with Robotnik.
* AxCrazy: He's a completely psychotic bastard who relishes death and destruction. In issue 85, he protects both Sonic and Lord Sidewinder's men from Sidewinder's collapsing mansion with {{Force Field}}s solely because he wants to destroy them personally, and in issue 184, he deliberately holds back while attacking Sonic's friends solely to prolong the pleasure of killing them.
* BlessedWithSuck: The amnesiac Super Sonic still has access to his standard powers of flight, super speed and invulnerability. Unfortunately for him, using any of them even once means he turns back into the murderous psychopath he used to be.
* CardCarryingVillain: Super Sonic is perfectly fine with admitting he's evil.
* CreepyShadowedUndereyes: [[DependingOnTheWriter Depending On The Artist.]] Most commonly seen in [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/supersonic_5.jpg Richard Elson's artstyle.]]
* DramaPreservingHandicap: He ''is'' the handicap for Sonic. While he'll certainly obliterate whatever enemy was giving Sonic trouble, he'll then target ''anything else'' right afterward with no rhyme or reason. This is why Sonic can't simply go Super on every new threat that presents itself.
* TheDreaded: He is this to everybody on Mobius justified by the fact he is insane, and evil, sadistic, psychopathic... and equipped with the power of the Chaos Emeralds.
* EnemyWithout: Once he's separated from Sonic.
* EnergyAbsorption: He is able to absorb Chaos Energy, he used this to absorb Chaos' power turning him back into a Drakon.
* EnergyBeings: After he's separated from Sonic, Super continues to exist as a being of pure Chaos Energy.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: In his first appearance in Issue 7, he defeats a badnik that nearly killed Sonic with ease. Then he goes after the animal inside said badnik as well.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: PlayedForLaughs. OmnicidalManiac he may be, he calls out Bio Hazard's language when the latter swears.
* EvilCounterpart: He has all of Sonic's powers and Sonic's bad traits taken up a notch.
* EvilLaugh: He gives one when he thinks he has killed the Freedom Fighters.
* EyeBeams: He can fire beams of Chaos Energy out of his eyes.
%%* FangsAreEvil
* TheFarmerAndTheViper: In the final issue, [[spoiler:he drains Chaos' energy to save his life, and Ebony repeatedly vouches for his character and dismisses Sonic's concerns, confident that Super will remain a good guy and still be her friend. While it initially seems that way, Super soon reveals that he ''has'' gone bad once again and attacks Ebony and the others.]]
-->'''Super Sonic''': I remember what Sonic said about me. He thought I'd turn back into an evil demon the moment I absorbed the Chaos Energy. [[HopeSpot Only you had any faith in me, Ebony... only you trusted me.]] But you know what...? ''You should have listened to Sonic!''
* FinalBoss: The final villain fought of the print run of ''ComicBook/SonicTheComic''.
* GoneHorriblyRight: When the Freedom Fighters finally worked out a way to expel the Chaos energy that allowed Sonic to turn into Super Sonic, the expelled energy manifested in its own body, freeing Sonic from becoming his villainous side ever again but with the result that Super Sonic could now be an independent threat.
* HeelFaceTurn: Because of IdentityAmnesia.
* HeroKiller: At one point Super Sonic at least believed he had killed the other Freedom Fighters when he caused their plane to crash, but they had actually the Kintobor Computer flying the plane by remote control to act as a decoy while they escaped.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler: His amnesiac self neutralizes Chaos by absorbing the chaos energy powering him, fully aware that doing so will corrupt him enough to permanently revert him to his original crazed sociopath self.]]
* HulkMashUp: Could be considered one to ''ComicBook/TheIncredibleHulk''- that is, if you removed any semblance of the Hulk being heroic.
* HumanoidAbomination: Made of Chaos Energy.
* IdentityAmnesia: Becomes a nice guy when he temporarily loses his memories. But becomes haunted for a long time by recurring nightmares of a demonic creature destroying the world and saving him for last. Eventually, he discovers these are actually representations of his past destructive urges, remembering in full that he was once the evil, chaotic Super Sonic. This leads him to refuse to use his powers lest he become corrupted by them once more - indeed, each time he taps into chaos energy or his inert powers, he reverts to his crazy self. [[spoiler:His desire to not become a demon again ends in tragedy, as he is corrupted by the power of all seven emeralds - while attempting to save his own life nonetheless - and he is promptly merged back with Sonic, seemingly ending the pacifist Super Sonic's life.]]
* InSeriesNickname: [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Demon]].
* ItAmusedMe: He has no ulterior motivations and just likes to brutally attack and murder anything on sight. Best demonstrated in "Running Wild" where, upon being activated and seeing no one in sight to pummel, he, at pure whim, puts Amy Rose, the first person on his mind, on his hit list to appease his blood lust.
* JaywalkingWillRuinYourLife: Super Sonic is just as impatient as Sonic, except of course he's evil and powerful. However he doesn't perform evil acts specifically because they're evil, but because he's ''bored'', and has about as much self-restraint as a wind-sock.
* {{Jerkass}}: He is cocky, immature and arrogant, all without Sonic's goodness and self-restraint. On top of that he goes from just Sonic's petty verbal bullying to a violent murderous sadist.
* TheJuggernaut: He possesses all of Sonic's powers but amped up by a tremendous amount. He is many times stronger and faster than his blue counterpart, and is all-but invincible; It takes enormous kinetic damage, accompanied by extreme exhaustion, in order to defeat him.
%%* KnightOfCerebus
* LackOfEmpathy: Super Sonic legitimately doesn't care about anything but his own self-satisfaction; at one point he only stopped an erupting volanco from destroying a village because Tails suggested he couldn't do it.
* LightIsNotGood: He's a bright golden hedgehog who often has a bright aura around him much like his game counterpart...and he's the SuperpoweredEvilSide of the main character, the complete opposite of good.
* MadeOfEvil: Made of Chaos Energy, which is implied to be evil in this universe.
* NiceGuy: He becomes one when he looses his memories.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: In the hundredth issue, when sealed in an asteroid in the Special Zone, he supercharged himself to turn it into an electron bomb. At the last second, Sonic had the Omni-Viewer teleport the asteroid to Mobius, and the resulting [[{{EMP}} electromagnetic pulse]] knocked out all of the computerized systems on the planet... nearly all of which belong to Dr. Robotnik. Thus, Super Sonic played an instrumental role in Sonic and the Freedom Fighters finally managing to overthrow Robotnik as dictator of Mobius. On another level, his IdentityAmnesia is a side effect of said EMP, since it caused a continuous power drain, thus neutralizing him as a threat to Sonic for quite some time.
* OmnicidalManiac: During a fantasy, he pushed the moon out of orbit so it would destroy Mobius.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: Seems to have developed this towards Sonic over time.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Has only been prevented from indulging this part of himself due to his bond with Sonic most of the time; during a spell-induced fantasy he crashed Mobius's moon into the planet for the sake of it.
* PhysicalGod: Super Sonic seems to verge on this, especially towards the end of the arc where Sonic was trapped in the Special Zone. Besides his immense strength and speed (both enough to easily annihilate enemies who Sonic was all but helpless against) and flight, he's also flat out invulnerable to everything that's ever been thrown at him. He was able to gather enough charged particles to turn an asteroid into a miniature sun (which then exploded with enough force to bathe the entire surface of Mobius in a powerful electromagnetic pulse). It's occasionally said that he is powerful enough to destroy a planet. The only method that's ever truly beaten him is distracting him until he burns out.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: They're not just red this time unlike the usual take on Super Sonic, they’re spirals to boot!
* SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan: First sealed inside Sonic, then transferred to the Omni-viewer.
* SlasherSmile: Gained a creepy fanged one by "Running Wild", where he was shrewdly redesigned to look more demonic and feral than Sonic's normal form.
* TheSociopath: Super Sonic possesses all the traits of a low-functioning sociopath. He is completely incapable of experiencing empathy, incredibly sadistic, destroys and kills everything in his path, commits acts of evil out of boredom, and possesses almost nonexistent impulse control.
* SpikesOfVillainy: His quills are much more jagged than Sonic's.
* SuperPoweredEvilSide: To Sonic. When he's separated from Sonic and becomes amnesiac, his good persona considers the lapses into his original personality this.
* SuperSpeed: He has Sonic's super speed taken up a notch.
* VillainBall: He could very easily crush most of Mobius like a bug, but his arrogance and sadistic zeal nearly always stall him long enough to be eithered depower or neutralised before he can cause any ''real'' harm. Even more ironically he often ends up ''saving'' the heroes beforehand from another threat just so he can personally mess with them.
* WingdingEyes: His eyes are permanently spirals, even when he turns good. Notably, the spirals of his good self's eyes are much smaller, close in scale to Sonic's normal eye design, while his evil self's spirals take up the majority of his eyes.

A villainous crab from Mobius who used to patrol the Mobian Channel in search of wayward travellers. The "captain" (who wears some sort of sailor's cap) seems to enjoy torturing the people he discovers, especially since he gets to give his Octonaught Badnik a bit of exercise.

* KarmaHoudini: Despite trying to murder Knuckles (or at least capture him), the echidna was forced to release Claw when they got to land, the current legal system not being very good under Robotnik's rule.

Princess Kupacious (known as Princess Kupacius in her first and last appearances) was the ruler of Shanazar. Extremely ugly and nasty, the toad-like ruler reigned over her city with complete selfishness. Her unwillingness to hand out rewards and the treatment of her staff gave her few admirers. 1027A nefarious sky pirate who, while considered a villain, has no love for Doctor Robotnik or his tyrannical regime over Planet Mobius. Plunder is a pirate by name and nature, holding no regard for the law or social norms. He commands a flying galleon which is crewed by a motley bunch, though his only two regular crew members are his undead first mate Filch and Simpson the Cat, the ship's fool and cook. 1042A Sky Pirate and the ghostly First Mate of Captain Plunder. He is incredibly loyal to his captain and even in death has stuck by him through thick and thin. Filch was killed by Plunder himself, but he acknowledges that this was his own fault for [[DisproportionateRetribution taking the last biscuit without asking]]. The exact nature of Filch's ghostly aspect is unknown: Sometimes he is just a ghost and cannot touch anything, while sometimes he is a poltergeist and can manipulate his surroundings. Whatever kind of ghost he is, one thing is certain: he is indeed very knowledgeable, having studied books on Plunder's ship, and knowing of some of the Special Zone's more dangerous residents.

An amateur pirate working under Captain Plunder, and is without a doubt one of the most bizarre denizens of Mobius.
Resembling black and white cartoon characters of the 1920s, such as Oswald the Lucky Rabbit but mostly Felix the Cat, Simpson is capable of manipulating both himself and his environment at will, mostly for comedic effort. This behaviour can be anything from painting a hole in the floor for an enemy to fall into, shining a light from his eyes after swallowing said light, saluting his fellow crew-members by plucking his ears off his head like a hat and having his eyeballs pop out of their sockets when surprised (which notably disgusts Knuckles). His toon abilities also make him difficult to kill or even slightly injure. While the majority of his behaviour is followed with him being told to shut up, and he regularly irritates Plunder, the Captain keeps him around purely because he's a good cook.

!!Knuckles The Echidna
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Knuckles_65_1655.jpg]]
A red-furred echidna who lives on the mysterious Floating Island. He is the Guardian of the island, charged with protecting the seven Chaos Emeralds. His dreadlocks allow him to glide for short periods and his spike-knuckled fists can punch through solid rock. Since he has lived most of his life alone, Knuckles can be rather gullible sometimes, though over the course of Sonic the Comic, he has actually become less trusting when it comes to strangers.

------
* AccidentalMisnaming: When he goes to the Nameless Zone with Tails, they think that Sonic is Tails' sidekick rather than the other way around and assume Knuckles must be Sonic. He plays along with it after a while, just because he enjoys the fact that there's one place on Mobius that doesn't hero-worship Sonic.
* AdaptationDyeJob: His white fur-marking is changed to a metal necklace and his purple eyes are blue.
%%* BareFistedMonk:
* TheDragon:In issues 33 and 34 story "Enter Knuckles" and issues 35 and 36 story "Power of the Chaos Emeralds" Knuckles was Robotnik's [[TheDragon dragon]] until Knuckles realised that Robotnik had been playing him all along, but the echidna had been spinning a lie of his own: he had said that the Grey Emerald - the Control Emerald - had been lost many years ago. In truth, Knuckles had it all along. With the Control Emerald, Knuckles stripped Robotnik of his powers and sent him back to Mobius.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: He had his white fur marking from the games in his earliest appearances. It was later changed into a metal ring.
* GeniusBruiser: While not as smart as Porker or Tekno, he is able to understand and use advance echidna technology.
* GullibleLemmings: Downplayed compared to other interpretations. He was willing to believe Robotnik's lies at first, though was savvy enough to keep the Grey Emerald from him at first, with him quickly depowering Robotnik when he failed this SecretTestOfCharacter and attempted a power play when they collected the other Emeralds. While Knuckles is duped odd times after (such as his first meetings with Dr Zachary and Nack) the circumstances are fairly reasonable and it fails to become a defining characteristic of his.

* IWorkAlone: He's lived alone for so long that he is happiest by himself, and is generally not pleased by the numerous invaders and refugees who turn up on his island.
* JerkassToOne: He is generally aloof and protective of his island and doesn't like intruders. Bad guys aside however, he usually only hates dealing with Sonic appearing in particular, due to being TheRival and his cocky and insulting demeanour, not to mention their tendency to get caught in each others' unpleasant affairs whenever they meet.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Arguably an even straighter example than Sonic. He cheerfully helped Tails' FakeUltimateHero scenario by pretending that he was Sonic, and that he was Tails' sidekick.

This 'Chaos Energy' was insecure, but the Echidnas' emeralds were found to be the ideal container. Pochacamac then ordered his men to recapture the emeralds to save the galaxy from the Drakons. The Drakon Empire then waged war on the Echidnas.

* UnstoppableRage: Chuck, while normally a nice guy, can descend into this if you're not careful.
* UseYourHead: He attacks people by extending his head outwards to headbutt them with all the force of a truck.

A sentient skull and resident of Castle Frank N. Stein.

------
* TheAlcoholic: After his fame from winning the Monster of the Year award had dwindled and his film career flopped, he fell into this for a while. He's quickly cured of this by Stein's former nanny, however.
* AscendedExtra: In the original game, Head was merely an optional item for Chuck (with no indication of being an actual character), while the comic turns him into a comedic foil of sorts.
* DemBones: He's a talking skull.
* SicklyNeuroticGeek: He is this. Sort of.

The mascot and editor of Sonic the Comic.
----
* LemonyNarrator: Megadroid sometimes gives his snarky opinion on what is happening in the comic in the footnotes. Especially so in the ''Decap Attack'' strips. Other times, he gives a helpful recap or directions to a previous issue or strip when a character references something that happened in the past.
* {{Mascot}}: He is the mascot of Sonic the Comic.
